Daniel
McKernan is a New York based artist (though a native New Orleanian).
His projections can be seen at Thighpaulsandra's
and Black Sun Productions' live
performances throughout Europe. He has mixed live video projections
for Cyclobe's performance at the Donaufestival in Krems,
Austria. He was part of Coil's
only US performance (availabvle now on COLOR SOUND OBLIVION).
His interactive video installation, Is Evolution Evil? featuring Amanda Lepore, was scored by Thighpaulsandra and released as an Enhanced-CD through Brainwashed's Handmade Series (HAND003); it features accompanying video & essay regarding gender, genetic art and plastic surgery. In 2007, he & Richie Rennt curated a program called HOMOCCULT & OTHER ESOTEROTICA for the MIX NYC Queer Experimental Film Fest (which features works by Lee Adams, Ron Athey, Black Sun Productions, Terence Koh, Edward O'Dowd, Micki Pellerano, Breyer P-Orridge, Roberto Ratti, SUPERM (Slava Mogutin & Brian Kenny), The Threshold HouseBoys Choir, and Todd Verow). It has since played at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, at OutFest in LA, and most recently at Visions of Excess as part of the Spill Festival and at The Horse Hospital in London. It is next in Berlin a the XPOSED Film Fest on June 17, 2009. Daniel's newest video work, A Well Hung Monk in collaboration with Black Sun Productions, has been screened at MIX NYC 2008, at the Torino 24th Film Fest: From Sodom to Hollywood in Italy, and soon to be at TLV International LGBT Film Fest in Tel Aviv, Isreal.
His latest
interactive video installation, The Magick
H8-Ball featuring Sophia Lamar and
programmed by Burle Avant,
premiered at MIX NYC
and then soonafter showed at the Westside Gallery in Chelsea,
NYC.
In 2009, Daniel co-curated and was part of the group
show, One Night Stand, at Envoy Gallery, NYC, and was part of OTK Discipline Afterwards, he curated HOMOCCULT V.2: Luminous Darkness for MIX NYC 2009. It has since screened in San Francisco and London. In 2010, he went down to do visual projections for the Portuguese production of Hedwig & the Angry Inch in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He has also participated in a number of occult ritual performances in NYC directed by Micki Pellerano. Most recently, he completed a music video for Little Annie's "Billy Martin Requiem" (new album, Genderful) which was released for her recent European tour with Marc Almond & Baby Dee. His photography is soon-to-be published in the upcoming issue of the NY-based art-zine, K48 (help fund the project here), as well as used as album artwork for a pending release of the Coil album recorded in Trent Reznor's New Orleans studios, Backwards. Lastly, a short film in collaboration with Sophia Lamar will be premiering by spring 2011, featuring a soundtrack by cellist John Contreras (of Current 93 & Cyclobe).
