CHERRY: A TRANSSEXUAL PHOTODOCUMENTARY
-- Cherry has now been living in New Orleans for the past 11 years. She began taking intravenous hormonal injections and estrogen pills 4 years ago. She had already begun performing as part of the drag show for Oz--New Orleans' most popular gay bar--when she began her transition from male-to-female. Having held the same job--at Angeli's restaurant on Decatur St.--for the past six years, many regulars have watched her slowly change from waiter to waitress. Earlier in 2002, a benefit called TASTE CHERRY was held at the Shim Sham to support "Ms. Thing's Gender Re-Assignment." Cherry knick-named the event the GASH BASH in honor of her soon-to-be vagina. Due to the proceeds from this function--and after three months of psycho-therapeutic analysis to make sure she truly wanted to be female--Cherry was able to have the first part of her surgery completed: having her testicles removed. A friend recommended Dr. Robert Barham in Portland, OR, who nicely allowed Cherry to keep her testicles in separate jars as souvenirs of her abandoned manhood. If you wish to see Cherry's testicles up close in person, to see the entirety of this photo-documentary, and to support the next step of Cherry's surgery--the removal of her penis and the construction of her vagina--please join us at her next fundraising event ...
