You are hereby advised that all sales from Phonometrography are NOT authorised in any way by The Hafler Trio. No money sent to them will ever reach me. You are encouraged to petition the owner of the label, one Wayne Carlsen about this and the following problems. He can be reached, hopefully, at:

w.carlsen@btinternet.com

wcarlsen@uclan.ac.uk

Not only I have had immense problems with him and his "company", but so have most of his distributors. A list of these testimonials see below. This is not a personal attack on him, but a warning to people who may be interested in what The Hafler Trio does, and how someone can latch on to that and ultimately try to destroy it.

He has never accounted to h3o, nor has he provided copies of releases in the agreed quantity or on time. He has not paid Autechre for their release in conjunction with h3o. His dealings with everyone are possibly the worst I have ever encountered. His sheer lack of respect for basic human existence is a new low in my experience. He refuses to answer emails to people wishing for copies, or people wishing to distribute them. It is almost as if he wished not to sell the product at all.

Possibly the worst part is his refusal to be honest regarding even the simplest matters. The incidents are legion. The man has problems with 'truth'. It is inaccurate to say that he lies, because the concept of 'truth' is alien to him.

There is evidence that what he has sold as "limited editions" are not — that is, he has reproduced numbers. Given that there are no accounts from the "label", it is, as the man said, impossible to estimate the damage. Purchasers of these editions are advised and encouraged to write to the above addresses (preferably all three) and demand, if not a whole or partial refund, an explanation.

I am in possession of written accounts from several people that there exist multiple copies of limited editions that do not bear my signature. I am also acquainted with a person that when he asked for a speaial number from the series, was told that it was gone. But that was no problem: "we'll just make another one".

So I asked for proof.

So I asked for the email addresses of the people that supposedly were returning the copies.

11th december of last year:

Now not forthcoming. No reason given. I of course now suspect even more strongly that this is simply another lie. I have repeatedly given Carlsen the chance to clear this, but weirdly, he doesn't.

Let's anyone think it's all in my mind, let's see what one of Phonometrography's distributors has to say about their relationship with Wayne Carlsen.

<<< continued from the bottom

"I can't tell you how many times I've had to beg [elided] not to cut him off as a supplier; he has yet to send us an order that is properly packed. We've also caught him lying to us several times about when an order was shipped, which has been particularly galling if we've kept customers waiting for shipments based on his promises. Many vendors vex us in small ways. Wayne is in a class of his own. I call him the King of Bullshit. [elided] has many times said "this is it, no more business with this guy, he's too much trouble."

That's from someone that has never even met him.

Or what about this?

"He really is a prick—I'm remembering some of the exchanges that [elided] told me about. One time, after he got yelled at for yet another back packing job that resulted in many damaged CD covers, he sent us a smallish restock order, maybe 25—35 CDs, packed in a box, which he then placed inside an ENORMOUS box. For padding material he used whole (folded, weighty) Sunday newspapers. The padding weighed 16 pounds altogether. To this day I don't know why [elided] paid him the full amount of the invoice. The shipping charge was more than the gross profits we made selling those CDs. That's what kind of vengeful idiot he is. But then I imagine you know this already."

I would also like to point out that all of the artwork, packaging, concepts and graphics, including logos and even the name, are my creation — by not his excrable website. Wayne Carlsen has done nothing except pay for the releases, which of course is a very wonderful thing. But he has made no effort to sell the items concerned.
