HEARTS AND FLOWERS Of Horses, Kids, And Forgotten Women LP
2022 restock. "Originally released in 1968, Hearts And Flowers' second and final album, Of Horses, Kids and Forgotten Women, is mentioned mostly in passing as the major recording debut of future Eagle, Bernie Leadon. This is totally unfair as the album is a classic slice of late '60s West Coast psychedelic country-rock that is as good as or better than their amazing debut." On 180 gram vinyl.

VA Knuckle Girls Vol. 2: 14 Pugilistic Platters From The Only Glitter Girls That Matter LP
From the liner notes: "An extract from the novel Bovver Birds Rool (... continued) 'That must hurt', said Dave. He hovered over Sue as she shakily tried to return to her feet. 'Well help me, then', barked Sue with a pained expression, 'don't just flippin' stand there'. 'I think this fell off', said Dave as he handed Sue back her bloodied Marc Bolan rosette. 'Great', snapped Sue, 'Steve's only just given me that... Which way did they go?' 'Don't be daft', said Dave, 'you're in no fit state.' At Tuesday night's Stall Street Disco, Dawn and Jane were busy victory dancing to their anthem, Hector's 'Wired Up', darting hard-faced Knuckle Girl glares at any boy daring enough to comment on their togetherness with an ill-advised wink and a nudge to his immediate neighbour. Meanwhile, Sue had invested her last 2p in a phone call to her best mate 'Sand', short for Sandra. 'Sand' was the self-elected leader of the Bovver Birds, the female contingent of The Larkhall Legion, who were beginning to assemble around the entrance to the disco. 'Tired of living?' were the last words Dawn heard as her face hit the floor. 'You cow!,' Dawn screamed, as she pulled out the remnants of her own front tooth and threw it in the face her towering tormentor. 'The Knuckle Girls buckle and the Bovver Birds win. Again!,' announced Sand in a loud but deadpan voice over the continuing Hector music. 'We'll leave you alone now to bury your dead. ... 'Birds' is still the word, and you've should been shat on from a great height. Next time, bitches!' A bow-tied bouncer strong-armed 'Sand' from the hall, dragging her by the arms as she still tried to pitch a globule of carefully-harvested spittle over her agitator. 'And there's a greeny for you,' she shrieked with delight as it landed successfully." (to be continued...) Features Nina Martin, Norah, Philadelphia, Paula Lincoln, Vermilion, Bobbie McGee, NQB, The Alison Marklew Band, Lorenza Johnson, Radar, Rock Follies, The (New) Settlers, Punchin' Judy, and Judith Crowne.

SOLA Un Muneco De Madera LP
2022 limited restock. Be With Records present a reissue of Sola's Un Muñeco De Madera, originally released in 1971. Originally released on RCA in Mexico, it's kaleidoscopic Acapulcan-funk. The album's endless grooves are propelled by softly rocking, quasi-library funk breaks. Vocally, Sola is in step with the '60s French pop-chanteuse style, but of course her lyrics are delivered in sensuous Spanish. Her voice is beautiful. Pillowy soft and tender, it can suddenly explode in mystical anger. These are ten tracks of moody, mysterious vibes that stir the spirit and sooth the soul. The LP was written, arranged, and directed by prolific Spanish composer Manuel Alejandro, the man behind an incredible number of now classic Latin love songs from the '60s, '70s, and '80s. As for Sola herself, next to nothing is known about the Mexican singer except the occasional whisper heard in only the darkest corners of the annals of music history. It's said that upon growing disillusioned with the music industry she ended up in a convent of Carmelite Sisters. Fitting perhaps, given that Un Muñeco De Madera is a spiritual wonder of a record. Much-loved single and title-track "Un Muñeco De Madera" opens the album. It introduces us to Sola's sparkling Latin-funk, bursting with swaggering grooves sewn by tight drums, sweeping strings and lush keys. It's followed by the serene but melancholic bossa groove of "Oye Mamá, Oye Papá" and the strings and guitar of "He Bajado Al Infierno" that hold up vocals reaching for an eternal truth. With full-on soundtrack-y feels, the rolling keys underpinning the Morricone-esque soundscape of "En Ellos Creo" will give you goosebumps. The gorgeous "Soy Rebelde" ("I'm Rebellious"), sets its gentle, piano-led delivery in delicate contrast to the lyrical sentiment. Perhaps Sola's most well-known track, the exotic bossa of "Tabu, Tabu", is a formidable groove. Elegant bongos, prominent bass, delicate acoustics, and a persistent flute blend with Sola's unique voice; sinuous, sassy, and forceful at the same time. The stunning "La Última Palabra", while not literally the album's last word, is nevertheless a stirring statement of strutting Latin soul, with more musical ideas packed into this one song than the entirety of most long-players. If you hadn't decided already, the final two tracks that are the funk-fueled "Bada-Bada-Ba" and the horn-heavy percussive masterclass "Únete A Mi" will leave you in no doubt that this is one very special record. Mastered by Simon Francis, cut by Pete Norman. Remastered from the original tapes.

DIXON, WILLIE I Am The Blues LP
2022 restock. 180 gram reissue, originally released in 1970. "Entire genres of music would look and sound vastly different if not for the contributions of Vicksburg, Mississippi's Willie Dixon. A writer of songs such as 'Hoochie Coochie Man', 'Spoonful', and 'My Babe', among so many others, Dixon's songs have gone on to become standards of blues music, after being covered by legends such as Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and Little Walter, while these same songs served as inspirational templates for the evolution of rock and roll music. Along with Muddy Waters, Dixon is to this day considered one of the most influential figures to the development of the post-World War II music scene. Dixon originally began as a performer, but as his career as a songwriter and session musician took off he performed less and less, working behind the scenes more frequently. In 1970 however, he entered the studios to record a selection of his own tunes. The end result was titled I Am The Blues, and consisted of songs written during his time as a staff-writer with Chess Records, previously performed by the likes of Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Otis Rush, and Willie Mabon. Dixon was joined by a solid lineup of seasoned session veterans, many of whom had performed as sidemen for the same singers he'd written for. A remarkable collection of new renditions of classic songs, straight from the original source."

PARTCH, HARRY The World Of Harry Partch LP
2022 restock; 180 gram exact repro reissue, originally released in 1969. "The World of Harry Partch collects three of his best short pieces. 'Daphne of the Dunes' (1967) is a side-long update of 'Windsong' written for dance. The melodic segments are given more emphasis than usual for a Partch piece, and harmonically this is one of his best with arpeggiated glides/cries of the Harmonic Canons evoking our sympathies. Meter changes almost measure by measure, with one section in 31/16 meter; another (polymetric) section consists of 4/4-7/4 over 4/8-7/8! Needless to say, while being very physical, Partch's music isn't something you can easily tap your foot to. What's most important is that it works. Partch was not one to introduce musical complexity merely for its own sake, another factor that separated him from his contemporaries. Not only are the rhythms complex, but they are performed at a frantic pace unequaled by any music I've hard (save perhaps the inhumanly fast player piano pieces of Conlon Nancarrow!). This is characteristic of most of Partch's works, though I think 'Daphne' is one of the most successful and exhilarating. 'Barstow -- Eight Hitchhiker Inscriptions from a Highway Railing at Barstow, California' was composed in 1941 as part of 'The Wayward.' It offers such statements as 'Go to 538 East Lemon Avenue for an easy handout' and 'Looking for millionaire wife...' This charismatic piece is successful due to the contrasting of Partch's intoning voice with others in the ensemble and to increased instrumental emphasis. Last is 'Castor and Pollux' in a more modern performance than From the Music of Harry Partch, with greater vigor and fidelity. The World of Harry Partch is an excellent introduction to his works that comes highly recommended." -- Surface Noise

SUPERPOZE Nova Cardinale CD
After composing for cinema, theater, multi-platinum French rap singles and French chanson albums, Gabriel Legeleux, aka Superpoze, continues his journey with electronic and instrumental music. He expands his intimate and singular work with a third dense and extensive album, where strings, flutes, and choirs join his trusty synthesizers, pianos and percussions."Nova Cardinale is an album conceived as a world rather than a story. A place made of sounds in which one can find a path, get lost or stay still and observe the surroundings. An album in which the tracks live on a grand scale, ranging from intimacy to emphasis. An album with perspective and vanishing points. It was an intimate and sensitive writing work, and also a real technical work of sound and production. Listening to the album, these two aspects seem to me indissociable today." --Superpoze

MENGELBERG/PETER BROTZMANN/EVAN PARKER/PETER BENNINK/PAUL RUTHERFORD/DEREK BAILEY/HAN BENNINK, MISHA Groupcomposing CD
2022 restock. Corbett vs. Dempsey presents a reissue of Misha Mengelberg's Groupcomposing, recorded in 1970 and originally released in 1978. Comprised of a one-time international free music supergroup, and originally released as the sixth production on pianist Mengelberg and drummer Han Bennink's ICP label, Groupcomposing has been largely absent from the history books. This is the case because the record has been so unavailable, certainly not as a comment on the magnitude and magnificence of the music. With its Bennink cover (take that Andy Warhol!) and its two side-long tracks, it is an improvised music aficionado's treasure. Mengelberg and Bennink are joined by Bennink's brother, Peter Bennink, on alto saxophone and bagpipes(!), with an incredible reed section of Evan Parker and Peter Brötzmann, Paul Rutherford on trombone, and Derek Bailey on guitar. Moving from peaks of intensity to droning deescalation, totally improvised live in concert in 1970, Groupcomposing should be heard in the company of related records like Brötzmann's Machine Gun (CF 020LP, 2018) and Nipples (CF 013LP, 2016), early London Jazz Composer's Orchestra and Globe Unity Orchestra, and Manfred Schoof's European Echoes (CF 008LP, 2013. The music is reissued here for the first time as a stand-alone CD, with original album art and an interior salon of never-published period photographs by Gérard Rouy. The first in an ongoing series of ICP reissues on Corbett vs. Dempsey, Groupcomposing restores a classic LP to its rightful place in the canon.

RESIDENTS, THE Wormwood 2LP
"Originally issued in 1998, Wormwood became one of The Residents' grandest, most ambitious and, ultimately, most rewarding projects. Featuring all of your favorite tales of chaos and carnage, incestual rape, brutality, murder, sacrifice, retribution, bloodshed and, of course, circumcision that made The Bible the must-read #1 best-seller it became. For sure, Wormwood finds The Residents on fine, thought-provoking form. Be warned, though -- The Residents DO NOT intend to mock or undermine the Good Book in any way. As ever, they come in peace, more interested in shedding new light than bringing about even more disharmony to a world already full to bursting on that score. Never before released on vinyl, this edition, finally, meets public demand. Remastered and resplendent in original artwork and inner sleeves featuring the work of the wonderful Leigh Barbier."

RAW POETIC & DAMU THE FUDGEMUNK Laminated Skies LP
'Laminated Skies is the new album by Jason Moore aka Raw Poetic, produced alongside friend and frequent collaborator Earl Davis aka Damu the Fudgemunk and featuring guest musicians Pat 'P' Fritz on guitar and Luke Stewart on bass. Sessions for Laminated Skies took place in the sweltering summer heat in 2019 at Windom Road studio in Brentwood, Maryland; with Damu's production adding a tapestry of instrumentation including live and programmed drums, strings, vibraphone, kalimba, melodica, vinyl scratching and synthesizers. Musically pulling from the genres that make hip hop; the multidimensional work also draws inspiration from Ralph Ellison's novel The Invisible Man, spirituals, and their individual influences --, on which Jason says 'I was an English major, Luke is a jazz bassist, Pat a classically trained guitarist, and Earl brought in a wealth of knowledge that funneled us through a direction that worked.' Laminated Skies is Raw Poetic's sixth solo album and first official solo release on a label (London's Def Pressé). It's also his most personal album. He explains 'I still can't fully describe what kind of album this is so I've now reserved myself to telling people it's a 'Jason' album. I wanted to tell people what the hell is going on through my head sometimes; how I feel as a guy from Northern Virginia. Sometimes it's invisible, other times invincible. Sometimes loved, sometimes hurt. Once we got started mixing and matching ideas, well? it became something that I am very proud of.' Damu says, 'I'm extremely proud of what we did on this album. When Raw asked me to get involved I was amped. I've watched Raw become a producer over the last ten plus years, teaching himself how to record and lay tracks. His production style is so unique, free and different from mine that I soak up a ton of inspiration from collaborating this way. With both of us usually exclusively perceived as hip hop artists (which we don't mind), Laminated Skies feels like a victory for us to show our appreciation while creating honest art, but escape the box without actually making a formal announcement. It's easily one of the best things I've been a part of'. Raw Poetic was born in Philadelphia to a rich family legacy including both parents in the original Black Panther Party and legendary jazz musician uncle Archie Shepp. Eventually settling in Northern Virginia where he was raised in the Washington Metropolitan area, the two east coast cities have had a major influence on his artistry. By college he founded Restoring Poetry in Music aka RPM and became the lead MC in the duo Panacea (Rawkus), formed by producer/beatsmith Kyle Murdock, who released five albums before disbanding on a high note in 2010. As a newly solo act, Raw Poetic saw the changing demands of indie artists, building a skillset that allowed him to be the versatile DIY artist he is today. Produced with Damu, their recent 2020 album Ocean Bridges with saxophonist Archie Shepp was considered one of the year's best efforts."

HUMAN ADULT BAND Slog Quest Crosstime LP
"For the last two decades or so, The Human Adult Band, led by T. Penn, has been at the vanguard of New Jersey's sub underground scene. Sometimes there are a lot of them, sometimes there are only a few, but the size of the scumball their music generates is always quite gigantic regardless of their number. Slog Quest Crosstime is a monstrously pleasant example of what the band does. Their LOUD free rock dynamism is a classic example of how to move things from point A to point B without even peeking at a sonic compass. They do have some similarity to bands you might know, but I can't think of any truly exact parallels. Their brutalist riffing can recall Burnt Hills at times, but they display a more evolved sense of forward motion than Albany's basement kings. Their way of collaging varietal space rock motifs makes me remember Crawlspace, but where those L.A. freaks used krautrock as their stylistic pathway to transcending nada, the Human Adult Band seems to prefer the guitar-shard-texturalism of no wave bands (although they sometimes blend these passages with Eastern modalities in a way that would sand-chafe Lydia Lunch's ass.) So, let's not get bogged down in comparisons. The sound of the Human Adult Band is just crazy, pounding DUNT of the highest order. Its bottom (created by T's bass and King Darves' drums) is so thick and wide it almost makes no diff whether they're playing in a trio configuration or a septet. They always manage to FILL the air with smoke. And so it is here. If thou art neither a square nor a moldy fig, I'm pretty sure you'll understand what this album is. Just fucking great." --Byron Coley, 2022

TOO SHORT Life Is ... Too Short LP
2022 restock, new lower price. "A pioneer of hardcore rap music, one can't talk about the West Coast hip-hop scene without mentioning Todd Anthony Shaw, better known by the stage name Too $hort. A veteran of the genre, Too $hort's discography is one filled with tracks about pimping, drug use, promiscuity, and unapologetically explicit language. (His 1985 record Don't Stop Rappin is notoriously one of the first to use the word bitch on a track.) He's released nearly 20 albums over the course of his 35-year career and collaborated with artists as varied as Jay-Z, UGK, 50 Cent, Lil Jon, he's even been one of the few musicians to work with both 2Pac and The Notorious B.I.G., in the middle of their infamous feud. Too $horts works were largely a cult phenomenon during the early years of his career, but 1988's Life Is... broke him into a mainstream audience, and gave him his most critically acclaimed release. (Not to mention his highest-selling to date.) The album stood out in its field, at a time when re-sampling old-school funk and R&B singles was the name of the game, Too $hort instead opted to take established riffs and hooks from those singles and re-create them with studio musicians and drum machines. The album cemented Too $horts status among MCs, and the title track itself would even be re-sampled in tracks by rappers UGK, hip-hop-influenced rock group Sublime, and even Too $hort himself on later singles."

CYPRESS HILL Cypress Hill (30th Anniversary 7" Casebook) 6x7" BOX
"When Cypress Hill came with their debut self-titled album 30 years ago, they made an immediate spark that captivated the Hip Hop audience, critics, and then the world. Led by B-Real with his nasal, singsong delivery, and Sen Dog to play the perfect hypeman, Cypress' debut fueled tales of revenge, revolution, recreational drug use, gangbanging, and cultural pride. Like Public Enemy before them, the production was also a key factor in what made this debut so groundbreaking. DJ Muggs was able to craft a blueprint that would change Hip Hop production with his innovative stoned-out beats. Records like 'How I Could Just Kill a Man', 'Pigs', 'Stoned is the Way of the Walk' and 'Hand on the Pump' made this album an instant classic. Since its release, the album has won acclaim as one of Rolling Stone's Essential Recordings of the 90s and Top 100 Best Rap Albums by The Source Magazine. Journalist and author Chris Faraone highlights the group's relationship in the reissue's liner notes saying, '[By the late 80s] the undisputed Cypress unit finally formed. B and Sen realized that their diametric styles -- the latter's deep wrangle, the formers inimitable high notes -- complemented one another righteously. By then Muggs had bangers in the bag, as well as industry experience from a jaunt with the New York duo 7A3. B and Sen waited while Muggs messed with 7A3, and in that time began to build the blueprint for their raucous and weeded no-holds-barred style. Besides getting schooled on industry pitfalls, Muggs had also grown into hip-hop's most formidable young producer, while straddling the bi-coastal gap.' Faraone was able to dive in deep with the band for the liner notes, hearing story after story, including the particularly interesting tale of their unlikely 91 radio hit, 'How I Could Just Kill A Man'. In the B Side wins again story, the group recalls receiving resistance from the label in regards to which single should hit radio first. Initially, the label thought 'How I Could Just Kill A Man' was too risky, and even though the single initially 'The Phuncky Feel One', one of the album's strongest cuts, as the A-Side, college and commercial mix-show radio couldn't resist the dusted, heavy groove of Kill A Man. The song -- which included a catchy, LA drive-by-inspired chorus -- ended up as an unlikely, but powerful double A-sided single that even topped the Billboard Rap charts. More singles would follow, including 'Hand On The Pump'; 'Pigs'; and 'Latin Lingo'. And by the fall of 1991, the album was a full-blown critics darling. If you are a Cypress Hill fan and 45 collector this limited edition 30 year Anniversary 7" boxset is a must have!"

2022 repress. LP version with download code. "Sonic Youth's second full-length LP Bad Moon Rising was originally released on Homestead and Blast First in 1985. The album is a fascinating examination of 'the junction where hippie idealism [meets] the cold hard world,' says guitarist Lee Ranaldo, 'where Woodstock [meets] Altamont -- Death Valley, Charles Manson, Brian Wilson, musicians, murderers, heroes and villains.' Its original eight-song tapestry of droning guitar feedback, distant clattering percussion, and sullen vocals, all held together with interstitial noise loops and shadowy haze, ambles through a long, dark night before the feverish 'Death Valley '69,' driven by runaway guitar riffs and a frantic Thurston Moore/Lydia Lunch vocal duet, pounds the capstone into place. Sonic Youth's big leap forward from Confusion Is Sex and Kill Yr Idols 'reflects the spirit of the time,' to quote All Music Guide. Bad Moon Rising views 'American gothic through the glassy eyes of willful moonlit paranoia.' Back in print on Goofin' Records, this reissue includes bonus tracks 'Flower' and 'Halloween,' both from a 12-inch single of the same era. The sound collage morsels 'Satan Is Boring' and 'Echo Canyon' are your cue to begin moving toward the exit and get out while you can."

SONIC YOUTH Evol Cassette
"Released in May 1986 on SST Records and Blast First! in the UK, EVOL was the third studio album by Sonic Youth and showed the first signs of the band transforming their No Wave past into a greater alt-rock sensibility. 'EVOL ? mark[s] the true departure point of Sonic Youth's musical evolution,' noted Pitchfork, 'In measured increments, Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo ... bring form to the formless, tune to the tuneless, and with the help of Steve Shelley's drums..., [impose] melody and composition on their trademark dissonance. If Daydream Nation is Sonic Youth's opus, EVOL was crucial research. There's a directness that makes everything feel close. It is pure tension with little release. The entire record is a shadow.' Stereogum likewise praised the album as one, 'full of suspense..., the cornerstone [of] the Sonic Youth sound..., ground zero for the combination of chiming guitars and atonal skronk... muggy delirium... the virile 'Tom Violence' sounds less written than coaxed from a cauldron, the sort of song that fogs windows. The off-kilter 'Starpower' ... is sung in a frosty [Nico-evoking] monotone [by Kim Gordon]. 'In The Kingdom #19,' featuring Mike Watt on bass and ... vocals [by Ranaldo]..., is a harrowing story of a highway wreck over a suitably edgy instrumental backing punctuated by ... live firecrackers in the vocal booth.' For Popstache, 'EVOL slithers into the unconscious. Once the ... detuned melodies and haunting riffs and final whispers of feedback depart from the speakers... the music [leaves] a faded footprint, forever reeling the listener back for another strange trip.' 'The seeds of greatness...' --Pitchfork (who placed the album #31 of the Top 100 Albums of The 1980s) 'A near-masterpiece.' --Trouser Press 'A stunningly fluent mixture of avant-garde instrumentation and subversions of rock'n'roll.' --All Music Guide"

VA Calypso Guapacha LP
2022 restock. "Zombie Club presents Calypso Guapacha, the fourth sonic artifact after his "Come To The Caribbean (GR 029LP, 2014), Mambo Calypso (2014) and Limbo (GR 027LP, 2016) successful releases. Once again, the concept is clear and simple: taking a trip on an imaginary sonic cruise to the islands, harbors and mountains of the Caribbean through rhythms and dances that recreate the tropical atmosphere that bring the festive spirit of these lands around the world. This time, we begin with a strange calypso song played on electric guitar by Cuban Wilson & His Combo followed by some tracks from the West Indies such as calypso, Haitian meringue, quelbe, mento or goombay. These rhythms are sung in English but they introduce the sparkly presence of the clave (wooden sticks from Cuba) that sets the beat on which all the musical structure is based, not only in the Caribbean music but also in all the African-roots music. Thanks to that, musicians who sing in different languages can share a primal and common musical home. The B side focuses on the Spanish-language tunes, with montunos, bombas and cumbias from Cuba, Puerto Rico and Colombia. However, we've chosen a doo-wop/mambo as a way of conclusion in order to show that Caribbean music isn't just limited to that specific geographic area. That is it, we are embarking in Cuba going around the Caribbean to arrive in the USA, singing in different languages with different rhythms but finding a pulse that's shared by all of them: the clave. Well, it's OK, we don't want to theorize too much, it's about moving the hips and enjoying. That's why we tell you, one more time: 'Ay, sí, sí...we want to mambo!'" --Señor Zombie. Some tracks have been remastered and restored and some are presented on vinyl after many years. Format and selection designed for DJs, collectors and general public. Also features: The Fabulous McClevertys, The Lion, Reuben McCoy & The Hamiltonians, Pierre Murat Et Son Ensemble, Luis Kalaff, Charlie Adamson, The Wigglers, Ñico Saquito, Cristóbal Pérez, Maelo Y Cortijo, Trío Matamoros, Chuito El De Bayamón, Pedro Laza Y Sus Pelayeros, Walfredo De Los Reyes, and The Dootones. 300 gram sleeve, includes download.

LAMERE, LIZ Keep It Alive CD
"Liz Lamere has announced her debut album Keep It Alive via In The Red. After collaborating with late partner Alan Vega (Suicide) for over three decades on his solo work, and starting out playing drums in punk bands, she is releasing her own music. All of the music and lyrics were written and performed by Liz Lamere. It was recorded in her lower Manhattan apartment during lockdown, engineered by her and Alan's son Dante Vega Lamere in the same space where the Suicide singer constructed his light sculptures. They emerged with a riveting set of songs that are charged with an irrepressible lust for life and the feel for the contagious hook. The album was then co-produced and mixed by Jared Artaud and Liz Lamere, with Ted Young engineering the mixing sessions and Josh Bonati mastering. 'There's something very magical about creating music in the same environment where Alan created his visual art,' notes Lamere. 'His energy is pervasive and is inevitably infused in the recordings.' She continues: 'We were living through unprecedented times and Keep It Alive took adversity and uncertainty and turned it into a message of resilience and empowerment.' The album courses with the defiant energy that motivated Lamere through her early double life as both Wall Street lawyer and downtown New York musician before meeting and falling in love with Vega led to her becoming his manager, creative foil and keyboard manipulator on solo albums beginning in 1990 (Deuce Avenue, Power On To Zero Hour, New Raceion, Dujang Prang, 2007, Station, IT) and recently released lost album Mutator that launched the Vega Vault she curates with Jared Artaud. After Vega passed away in July 2016, Lamere found it cathartic writing down thoughts and observations in notebooks. Simultaneously, she and Artaud started collaborating, overseeing the mastering of IT and then co-producing and mixing Mutator; and during this time they naturally discussed an alliance on the solo album she knew would be forthcoming. Keep It Alive is an homage to a song on Vega's New Raceion album that has significant meaning for Lamere. It was one of the key lines she would chant on stage, becoming a staple of live performances with Vega. The vision behind the album is about preserving your own inner fire. Lamere commented 'Alan always encouraged me to make my own music, and I've waited until the time was right as I've been dedicated to preserving Alan's vision and building his legacy.'"

SILL, JUDEE Judee Sill CD/SACD
Hybrid Dual-Layer CD/SACD Disc. "The astonishing Judee Sill was the first artist signed to David Geffen's Asylum Records, and Judee Sill the first album released on the label. Sill's music is intensely spiritual, redolent of both mysticism and divine imagery, yet grounded by great songwriting and a pure but powerful singing talent. Her songs impart incredible intimacy that is enhanced and not diminished by her sometimes complex string/orchestral arrangements (remarkably Sill arranged and conducted the strings/orchestra on her albums!). Sill's life was tragic personally and professionally. Her father and brother were killed when Sill was young, and her tempestuous relationship with her alcoholic (and remarried) mother resulted in her leaving home at 15. She committed robberies and began a battle she was destined to lose against drug addiction. When stardom didn't follow the critical acclaim of these two albums her career never recovered. Sill was dead in 1979 at just 35. The brevity of Judee's musical legacy is vastly outweighed by the emotional power in these two extraordinary albums. Mastered DIRECT-TO-DSD from the original analog master tapes by Kevin Gray at CoHEARent Audio. The master tapes are in fine shape, and listeners will be blown away by the increased inner detail and three-dimensionality of these achingly gorgeous recordings. These new Intervention reissues represent THE definitive listening experience for these classic LPs!"

SANDERSON, PHILIP Passionate Particles CD
"Passionate Particles is an hour-long compilation of tracks by Philip Sanderson (Snatch Tapes/Storm Bugs) drawn from LP, CD, MC, and DL releases made between 2000 and 2020. Storm Bugs were initially active between 1978 and 1982 and reformed in 2001. Sanderson had experimented with tape recorders whilst still at school, after moving to London in 1978 he began to get out of hours access to the electronic music studio at Goldsmiths College and also purchased a Revox reel-to-reel tape recorder setting up a DIY home studio. It was using these facilities that Sanderson recorded much of the Storm Bugs output from 1978 to 1980 with Ball designing the artwork for the releases. This new album contains a mix of both instrumentals and songs the CD is in the spirit of 'a young person's guide to' the eclectic range of approaches taken by Sanderson. Reviews in the Wire magazine of the instrumental tracks have described them as being akin to 'a boiling vat of electronic music that occasionally sounds like the work of a mad scientist', whilst the songs have a 'flavour of what Kevin Ayers might cook up if he were alive and forced to work with the Residents'."

DER BLUTHARSCH AND THE INFINITE CHURCH OF THE LEADING HAND Dream Your Life Away CD
"Der Blutharsch and the Infinite Church of the Leading Hand came into existence in 2011. Prior to that, mastermind Albin Julius had worked under the name Der Blutharsch, which in itself was his follow-up project to The Moon lay hidden beneath a Cloud. While The Moon lay hidden was part of the then-strong neofolk scene, Der Blutharsch started as a Martial Industrial project, showing similarities to Laibach or Autopsia. It gradually changed into a more rock-oriented group, and in 2011 the extra name was added to emphasize the new musical direction. Since then, DBATICOTLH have released several studio albums and several collaborations, amongst others with Aluk Todolo, Wolvennest, Skullflower, Fuckhead or White Hills. In 2021, the group are a psychedelic rock band with some electronic influences. In October of that year, Der Blutharsch played a double bill with Italian group Ain Soph in Vienna. This album is a recording of that show."

GOTTSCHING, MANUEL E2-E4 (35th Anniversary Edition) LP
2022 repress. 180-gram LP version with embossed chessboard artwork print and printed inner sleeve. In celebration of the 2016 35th anniversary of the December 12, 1981, recording of Manuel Göttsching's legendary E2-E4, one of electronic music's most influential recordings, Göttsching's MG.ART label presents an official reissue, carefully overseen by the master himself. Includes liner notes by Manuel Göttsching, archival photos, and an excerpt of David Elliott's review in Sounds from June 16, 1984."As the story is sometimes told, Göttsching stopped in the studio for a couple of hours in 1981 and invented techno. E2-E4 is the most compelling argument that techno came from Germany-- more so than any single Kraftwerk album, anyway. The sleeve credits the former Ash Ra Tempel leader with 'guitar and electronics', but few could stretch that meager toolkit like Göttsching. Over a heavenly two-chord synth vamp and simple sequenced drum and bass, Göttsching's played his guitar like a percussion instrument, creating music that defines the word 'hypnotic' over the sixty minutes . . . A key piece in the electronic music puzzle that's been name-checked, reworked and expanded upon countless times." --Mark Richardson, Pitchfork

CROSBY, DAVID If I Could Only Remember My Name CD/SACD
"Mastered from the original master tapes: hybrid SACD conveys the altered-consciousness aura, and natural lushness of the acoustic-based music. No album personifies the relaxed, loose, albeit troubled early 1970s California aura like If I Could Only Remember My Name. Hallucinogenic, trippy, and akin to a foggy dream you want to last for hours on end, David Crosby's blissed-out solo debut transcends time and remains a key influence on the contemporary freak-folk scene. A thoroughly unique statement, it lingers as a beautiful convergence of spontaneity, collaboration, circumstance, and recording-studio acumen. Now, more than 50 years after its release, the longtime audiophile favorite has never sounded more ethereal, present, detailed, balanced, or lush."

GOPAL, SAM Escalator CD
2017 release. "Sam Gopal took up the tabla in Malaysia at the age of 7, before coming to study music in Britain in 1962. Sam Gopal put together his first group, Sam Gopal's Dream in 1966. They quickly became a feature of the psychedelic scene, playing at the 14 Hour Technicolour Dream at Alexandra Palace in 1967 and sharing stages with such giants as Pink Floyd, the Move and Jimi Hendrix. Indeed, Jimi jammed with them during a gig at the Speakeasy in January 1968. However, whilst successful live, the band went unrecorded, and disbanded shortly after, only to be reconstituted under the Sam Gopal moniker, Sam being joined by Roger D'Elia on guitar, Phil Duke on bass and most famously, ex Jimi Hendrix roadie Ian 'Lemmy' Willis on vocals and guitar. Signed to the short-lived Stable label, songs for an album were quickly written, most of them by Lemmy, and the album was released in March 1969, beautifully packaged in a gatefold sleeve. Something of a classic of psychedelic acid rock, complete with fuzzed guitars, but rooted by its Eastern percussion, the album included one cover, a rocked up version of Donovan's 'Season Of The Witch', whilst a projected single release included a version of Willie Dixon's 'Back Door Man', which managed to be even heavier than the interpretation by the Doors on their first album, released two years earlier. 'You're Alone Now', one of the Lemmy-written songs on the album, became quietly influential, acting not only as a forerunner of Hawkwind's seminal 'The Watcher', but having an intro that brings to mind Black Sabbath's 1970 smash 'Paranoid'. The album ends with undoubtedly the gentlest song of Lemmy's career, the rather lovely 'Yesterlove', which has Lemmy's vocal floating gently over a backing of tabla and acoustic guitar. Sadly, despite apparently having all the ingredients in place for success, this incarnation of Sam Gopal proved to be no longer-lived than Sam Gopal's Dream, and broke up not long after the release of this album."

LYRES A Promise Is a Promise LP
2022 restock; gatefold LP version. Munster reissues the third Lyres LP, originally released on Ace of Hearts, from 1988. "Anyone following the career of Lyres for any length of time throughout that mid-to-late '80s period would doubtless be interested in the ongoing personnel shuffles that were taking place around this time. 'What really happened,' Jeff Conolly explains, 'is that we had to totally re-group the line-up with each LP because people instantly discovered that it was nearly impossible to go professional and maintain a living and do the kind of not-sell-out music we did at the same time. Our special Murphy drummer would leave and then re-join many, many times, and then we started getting robbed on tour a lot, and many nice things were lost to us... After the tour van got busted into in Amsterdam in May 1987 we had to get a new guitar guy to go along with our new rhythm section. At this point there was very little 'connection' with the original concept or sound of the 1979 group which had been founded on being aspiring amateur musicians.' Although one or two of USA's then modern garage-type bands were beginning to make some inroads beyond a cult-only success, particularly overseas, it was nearly always accepted as a given that playing this type of unfashionable music could only ever result in rather limited dividends, commercially speaking. But successful or otherwise, Lyres can be seen as purveyors of a rich stream of powerful music, distilled from an amalgam of influences, injected with unusual verve and vitality, and presented in a wholly authentic, provocatively different way from all other groups. Of the many startling 'Conolloid' creations, self-penned, or imaginatively reinvestigated, one wonders often how Lyres came up with such radical reinterpretations of songs such as Dave Dee and company's life-affirming piano ballad 'Here's a Heart.' 'I started buying original UK freakbeat records beginning in the early 1980s when they were still relatively affordable,' states Conolly. 'I liked that weirdo USA Fontana Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich LP that had a ton of their hits on it, and I finally realized that their recording of 'Here's a Heart' had the special charming majick. On one of our trips to Paris I crashed with Carolyn and Stiv [Bators -- ex of U.S. punks The Dead Boys] and we discovered that we were both nuts about 'Here's a Heart.' I had bought myself a nice and reasonable DDDBM&T EP souvenir that afternoon at USA Records and we played it at Carolyn's and me and Stiv sang with it a lot. We kinda agreed to record it in one way or another, and later in January 1988 Stiv was in NYC and he came down to sing it with me live for the album #3.' With any kind of success, whether musical or otherwise, there also comes with it a certain degree of pressure, and so it was no different for Conolly and Lyres. 'All of a sudden I had to figure out a 'new' kind of Lyres sound and matching style/material to go with it,' says Conolly. 'And I had to do it real fast, so I started coming up with junk that was sort of like the very expensive but cool records I had been acquiring and sort of investigating, these freakbeaty records, which accounts for our trying to sort of figure out John's Children in 1987 and 1988.'" --Lenny Helsing

The currently hard-to-find Eastern Rebellion contains some inventive playing from every member of the quartet and this inspired modern jazz session is a fitting memorial to Cedar Walton. "Howlin' Wolf is the third studio album from Chicago blues singer/guitarist/harmonica player Howlin' Wolf. It is a collection of six singles previously released by the Chess label from 1960 through 1962. Because of the illustration on its sleeve, the album is often called The Rockin' Chair Album, which was eventually adopted on subsequent pressings. The album has had quite some influence on later musicians. In 1966, fellow Chess artist Koko Taylor recorded a cover version of 'Wang Dang Doodle' which reached #4 on the Billboard's R&B Charts and became a minor crossover hit. Earlier in 1963 Sam Cooke released a single of 'Little Red Rooster' making #7 on the R&B Singles chart and #11 on the Hot 100. In 1969 the songs 'Shake for Me' and 'Back Door Man' were used in the lyrics to the Led Zeppelin song 'Whole Lotta Love'. 180 gram audiophile vinyl."

Also included is the 2020 Ben Liebrand Oldskool mix as a bonus track, which was not available on the original album. During his career, Johnny 'Guitar' Watson influenced Jimi Hendrix amongst others and earned a Grammy nomination for best contemporary blues album. Sadly, Johnny 'Guitar' Watson passed away while touring Japan in 1996. A Real Mother For Ya is available on black vinyl."

With The Upsetters providing their musical backing. The MOV reissue of Return Of The Super Ape is based on the 'green' sleeve version from 1978. UFOMAMMUT Fenice CD
"For over twenty years, Ufomammut has combined the heaviness and majesty of dynamic riff worship with a nuanced understanding of psychedelic tradition and history in music, creating a cosmic, futuristic, and technicolor sound destined for absolute immersion. Fenice (meaning 'phoenix' in Italian) symbolically represents endless rebirth and the ability to start again after everything seems doomed. The album is the first recording with new drummer Levre, and truly marks a new chapter in Ufomammut history. While the band are well-known for their psychedelic travels into the far reaches of the cosmos, Fenice is a much more introspective listening experience. It was conceived as a single concept track, divided in six facets of this inward-facing focus. Sonic experimentations abound in the exploration of this central theme: synths and experimental vocal effects are featured more prominently than ever before, as the band push themselves ever further into the uncharted territory of their very identity. The towering synths on the opening track 'Duat' evoke an almighty machine rising from the depths of primordial ooze. There's a shift to a frenetic garage-psych pace before mellowing out into a more familiar doomy stomp. 'Kepherer' is a respite, albeit a slight one, returning to the pulsing rhythms of the album's intro before plunging the listener into the menacing build and release of 'Psychostasia' next. Each oscillation of this extraordinary album feels inevitable -- Ufomammut are after all, masters of their craft, and when it comes to creating enveloping sonic journeys into the unknown, it's their uninhibited sense of exploration that breaches new sonic ground. Fenice is the sound of a band whose very essence has been rejuvenated, and are welcoming the chance to create music in the way they know best: by unfolding carefully and attentively, by melding those extreme dynamics which render Fenice as a living and breathing creature -- and by writing gargantuan riffs that herald their very rebirth."

NILSSON, MOLLY Extreme CD
"Extreme is Molly Nilsson's tenth studio album. Recorded in 2019 and throughout the 2020 global pandemic at home in Berlin, it is a departure for Nilsson, an explosion of angry love. It's an album of anthems for the jilted generation, soaked with joy and offering solace, bristling with distorted, metal guitars and planet-sized choruses that bring light to the dark center of the galaxy. It's an album of the times, by the times and for the people. It's a record about power. About how to fight it, how to take it and how to share it. Every song here is a gleaming gem in a pouch of jewels. Examples include 'Kids Today,' where Nilsson is the voice of wisdom, archly commenting on the eternal struggle between youth and authority. 'They Will Pay' brings big, distorted power chords in the form of a agit-punk, pop slammer. Of course, when Molly Nilsson does punk pop one gets the catchiest chorus this side of The Bangles or The Nerves. However, it's on 'Pompeii' that Nilsson delivers the album's epic, emotional heartbreaker. Like '1995' on Nilsson's album Zenith, or 'Days Of Dust' on Twenty Twenty, the lyrics of 'Pompeii' are heavy with a transcendent sadness, an aching poetry that cuts to the truth of the heart like the best Leonard Cohen lines. It contains the most personal moments of Extreme, a song lit by the dying embers of romance. Yet it's here where the alchemy at the base of all Nilsson's best work is found. Turning small nuggets of personal truth into big, generous universal moments that invite everyone to cry, to love and to fight the power. In an album of jewels, it might be the shining star. This is Molly Nilsson's biggest, boldest and most vital album to date, Extreme is about power. Against the love of power and for the power of love."

AGAINST ALL LOGIC 2012-2017 2LP
2022 repress. Nicolas Jaar shows he is paying attention to the masses by issuing a widely called for vinyl press of his A.A.L. (Against All Logic) album 2012-2017. Originally issued as a digital-only release back in February of 2018, it's slowly grown to become one of the most cherished releases in the entire Other People discography. Much like Kerrier District did to disco, A.A.L. (Against All Logic) borrows heavily from the samples and sounds ingrained deep within Jaar's listening habits and evidently a record collection packed to the brim with classic soul, house, and most importantly, funk hooks. Keenly twisting these sounds and filtering them through a studio set up that's leaning heavily on the beefed-up kick drums and reverb units to make a well-executed homage to these sounds, pieced together with the inherent idea of making the listener unable to resist the urge to move, be it in a bedroom, basement, or just sat in work staring at a computer screen. A.A.L. (Against All Logic) is both a well-executed homage to all of the above references, yet also just a really strong and enjoyable record from Nicolas Jaar. Its undeniable popularity digitally is sure to see the vinyl evaporate in no time at all.

MARLEY & THE WAILERS, BOB Rebel's Hop: An Early 70's Retrospective 2LP
Bob Marley & The Wailers are the most legendary figures to emerge from Jamaican popular music, a trio of icons that brough reggae to the broader public consciousness and helped the Rastafari faith to spread outside of their native island. Robert Nesta Marley, Peter McIntosh, and Neville O'Riley Livingston, AKA Bunny Wailer, are responsible for the understanding of reggae music itself, as well as the now-global movement of Rastafari consciousness and the general popular culture of Jamaica in a way unlike that of any of their peers. This retrospective on their '70s production, packed in a collectable double-vinyl set, provide a tantalizing glimpse of the international stardom that would soon be achieved by the group, charting some particularly fertile and evolutionary phases of their formative years. Comes with extensive liner notes by David Katz. Licensed by San Juan Music.

FIREBREATHER Dwell In The Fog CD
"Gothenburg, Sweden trio Firebreather's 2019 RidingEasy Records debut album Under A Blood Moon was a powerhouse that most certainly established the band's incendiary potential. But no one will be prepared for the suffocating onslaught that is Dwell In The Fog. While that album was in-your-face and raw, Dwell In The Fog rumbles and rages with a fury the band had only previously hinted at. Firebreather has a streamlined focus on driving, symphonic riffs in the vein of High On Fire, Inter Arma and their tour- and label-mates Monolord. The guitar and bass tones are, quite simply, entrancing. Paired with vocalist/guitarist Mattias Nööjd's guttural yet melodic howls and drummer Axel Wittbeck's groove-based rhythms, their entire sound flows like thick, viscous lava. 'The album is a cathartic journey inwards and a musical continuation from Under A Blood Moon, but with more emphasis on groove and feel,' Nööjd says. From the first notes of album opener 'Kiss Of Your Blade' one will know exactly what he means. Like their preceding two albums, Dwell In The Fog was also recorded and mixed by engineer Oskar Karlsson at Elementstudion in Gothenburg. The band is joined by new bassist Nicklas Hellqvist on this album, who seems to have increased the thunder rumble tenfold. From the aforementioned album opener 'Kiss Of Your Blade', with its droning opening chords over a rollicking tom pattern, the band quickly shifts gears into a head-bobbing, serpentine riff with a transcendent melodic hook. Elsewhere, as on the title track and 'Weather The Storm', rapid-fire hummable riffs come and go in an ever-shifting mass of devastating swirling churn. It's like the band has such an endless supply of great hooks that to, ahem, dwell for too long on any one would undo their constantly building momentum: the fact they somehow give each song -- and the album as a whole -- a streamlined and cohesive, monolithic groove is a testament to their skill. And proof that the album must be absorbed in its entirety to experience the overwhelming swaying and lunging low-end growl that drives the band's most captivating work to date."

ATKINSON AND JEFRE CANTU-LEDESMA, FELICIA Un Hiver En Plein Ete LP
Over the last five years, the duo of Félicia Atkinson and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma have intertwined sublime sonorities across the geographic expanses between their respective homes in France and the United States. Their third album for Shelter Press, Un Hiver En Plein Été ("A winter in the middle of summer") -- the first to have been largely recorded by Atkinson and Cantu-Ledesma together in the same space -- distills a mesmerizing pallet of acoustic and electronic sources into an open discourse of radically poetic forms. Both veteran experimentalists with celebrated bodies of solo work behind them -- each traversing the challenges of electroacoustic practice in their own singular ways -- prior to their first recorded outing in 2016 (SHELTER 070LP), Félicia Atkinson and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma had only crossed paths in person once, initially meeting in San Francisco during 2009. The mutual bond formed during that brief encounter flowered into their first LP, Comme Un Seul Narcisse, followed two years later by 2018's Limpid As The Solitudes (SHELTER 101LP). Both recorded remotely, these two albums were guided by impassioned conceptual nods to Guy Debord, Baudelaire, Brion Gysin and Sylvia Plath, while seeking resolutions for the challenges and unique possibilities that working at a distance provoked. Un Hiver En Plein Été culminates as a celebration of closeness, a result of Atkinson and Cantu-Ledesma working together in the studio, responsively in real time, for the first time. Recorded in Brooklyn during August of 2019 -- a handful of months before the pandemic would impose chasmic distances across the globe -- its six discrete works, carefully crafted and finalized over the ensuing year, evolve seamlessly across the album's two sides, weaving a sprawling tapestry of sonority, within which both artists retaining their own voices and visions, while drawing each other towards uncharted ground. Atkinson likens the recording of Un Hiver En Plein Été to have been akin to "a playground", each artist "hungry for each sound, a bit like the rush in the Louvre in Godard's Bande à part", to which Cantu-Ledesma adds that the process seemed to have had "a mind of its own", with both "along for the ride". This organic sense of entropy and enthusiasm -- a joyous exploration of the unknown -- guides the momentum of the album's evolving arc. Un Hiver En Plein Été is crafted from deconstructed melodic elements and drifting long-tones -- laden with subtle nods to Indian classical ragas and free jazz -- searching patterns of speech, textural elements captured within the studio and the outside world, and searching tonal and percussive interventions.

ROUSAY, CLAIRE Everything Perfect Is Already Here CD
When words trail off at the beginning of claire rousay's Everything Perfect Is Already Here, ornate instrumentation is waiting to fill a void left by the breakdown of language. Yet it becomes clear as you trace rousay's collaged sonic pathway that breakdown, of meaning and also of melody, is also a place to rest. Everything Perfect... is made up of two extended compositions that cycle between familiarity and unknowing. There are seemingly infinite ways to feel in response to these pieces of music, which shift tone across their languid duration, earnest like a familiar song but unbound from the emotional didacticisms of lyrical voice and pop form. rousay builds a fluid landscape around the acoustic contributions of Alex Cunningham (violin), Mari Maurice (electronics, violin), Marilu Donovan (harp), and Theodore Cale Schafer (piano), whose respective melodies weave gently in and out, sometimes steady, sometimes aching, sometimes receding altogether in deference to less overtly musical sounds. That is, percussive texture in the form of unvarnished samples and field recordings: the rattle and rustle and the stops and starts of life unfurling, voices sharing memories nearly out of reach, doors closing, wind against a microphone. Everything comes from somewhere in particular, possessing the veneer of the diaristic, but sound's provenance is secondary here and so these details become tangled and fused. Such details sound not as individual ornaments or stories but the collective architecture of the greater composition. It's an architecture that is not quite formed and thus full of openings out to the world unfolding. "The world unfolding," that's a kind way of saying change, movement, loss, transformation. Things rousay here indexes, not without shards of desire or pain, still somehow what I hear is coarse peace in the in-between. Everything Is Perfect Is Already Here is loose and beautiful in surprising ways. The music guides a certain experience of the world around. In claire's music there is this marriage -- not just a pairing or juxtaposition but an interrelationship, an eventual confusion -- of song/texture, narrative/abstraction, figure/ground. Everything comes from somewhere in particular but not just the voices, the field recordings, the what is being said or meant, what matters is "the where you are now". There are so many ways of anchoring oneself in the present, some have to do with fantasy or storytelling and some with accepting what is. These two compositions find peace between these modes. They sweep you away and then bring you to earth, but which is which, anyway? Their mode of feeling is inquisitive.

L'OCELLE MARE Sans Chemin CD
A ritornello that awakens, unfolds, disappears, resurfaces, transforms, forgets itself, awakens again. A ritornello in folds and hollows, which gives us something to see as well as to listen, a theater of acoustic shadows where each timbre, each rhythm, each modulation, is born from a meticulously refined gesture. "I don't write music, it's an assemblage of gestural memories", says Thomas Bonvalet. Gestures found, accidentally or not, through long practice: such keyboard rubs on such guitar while preparing a concert, such tambourine vibrates in a singular way when placed on such amp, the duration and intensity of breath given to the flute so that the strings of the open piano decline and reverberate the harmonics... Gestures that are both very skillful and very simple, that sovereignly refuse the categories of modern and archaic, natural and cultural. Instead, they summon an entire genealogy, both intimate and collective, musical and technical, the memory of a thousand different pieces from a thousand different eras. There is no path, in fact, no path at all in this dismantled world. There are, however, these gestures that allow us to search for the human measure, that allow for a new attention to be given to bodies, objects, space. Gestures that invent new relationships between themselves and other ways of being alive, gestures to be worked on and shared endlessly. "It's fragile, it can always fall apart. I have to fight, to stay in tune with what is at stake in a piece, to breathe into it what will make it stand up. And so, the ritornello continues its mutations in the folds and hollows of our own memories."

SPECTRES Spectres III Ghosts in the Machine Book
The expression "ghost in the machine" emerged within a particular context, namely as a critique of Cartesian dualism's separation of soul and body, and thus served to revive a certain mechanistic materialism. In simple terms, this critique denies the existence of an independent soul (the "ghost") contained in a corporeal organism (the "machine"). It asserts, on the contrary, that the "soul" is just a manifestation of the body -- that ultimately, they are one and the same. The artificial always brings with it the fantasy of emancipation and autonomy, and a break with a supposedly natural order of things. In a certain respect, the domain of musical creation constitutes a kind of front line, at once a terrain of exploration for possible applications of AI and a domain that boasts an already substantial history of the integration of machines and their calculative power into creative processes. From algorithmic composition to methods of resynthesis, from logical approaches to the creation of cybernetic systems, from the birth of computer music to neural networks, for more than half a century now music has been in continual dialogue with the binary universe of electron flows and the increasingly complex systems that control them. Each of the texts included here, in its own way, reveals a different facet of the strange prism formed by this alliance. Each projects its own particular spectrum -- or spectre; each reveals a ghost, evokes an apparition that is a composite of ideas, electricity, and operations. This book, then, does not set out to cut the Gordian knot constituted by the question of the possible mutations and becomings of binary logic, and in particular its most recent avatar, AI. On the contrary, it seeks to shed a diverse light upon the many possible ways of coming to grips with it today, and upon the dreams, promises, and doubts raised by these becomings, whether actualized in the creation of codes and programs to assemble sounds or infusing a whole compositional project. Above all, though, what is at stake here is to discover how these developments resonate together, and how this resonance manifests itself through all these approaches, all these reflections, all these modes of creation and of living. For the artificial, the artefact, is always the extro-human brainchild of a human, all too human dream. Authors: Keith Fullerton Whitman, Émilie Gillet, Steve Goodman, Florian Hecker, James Hoff, Roland Kayn, Ada Lovelace, Robin Mackay, Bill Orcutt, Matthias Puech, Akira Rabelais, Lucy Railton, Jean-Claude Risset, Sébastien Roux, Peter Zinovieff.

Here, Baker's marvelous trumpet revelry is matched by the rest of his dynamite Quartet, this time featuring the esteemed composer and vibraphonist Enzo Randisi on piano (his only collaboration with Baker), Vito Tommaso's brother Giovanni making full use of the fretboard on melodic stand-up bass, and Gianni Cavallaro taking an unusual approach with the drums. Their keen musicianship helps spur Baker to squeeze the best from his horn, and there's a rare take of the ballad "I Can't Get Started" too, making this a must-have for all serious Chet devotees.

MANSON FAMILY, THE The Manson Family Sings The Songs Of Charles Manson LP
Recorded at the infamous Spahn Ranch in 1970, while their leader Charles Manson was facing trial for the murder of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca, The Manson Family Sings is a highly disconcerting listen. Beneath the harmonic brilliance and folksy innocence of these campfire-styled recordings are the hallmarks of Manson's twisted worldview, rendering a dystopian edge to what is otherwise compelling singalongs. Squeaky Frome, Brenda Gold, Gypsy Share and Sandra Blue all feature, with Clem Grogan fronting the beast, the end result being some of the freakiest and troubling songs you are ever likely to encounter.

CULTURE/SCIENTIST Scientist Dubs Culture Into A Parallel Universe LP
Originally released in 2000. 2021 reissue. "The dub version of Culture's 2000 vocal album Payday, Scientist Dubs Culture into a Parallel Universe deserves the revised billing of the title: This is Scientist's album all the way. Culture's original recordings are sliced and diced into entirely new configurations, with only the barest traces of the original melodies and Joseph Hill's commanding vocals remaining. Retitled with imagery drawn from the golden age of science fiction, the songs also revisit the golden age of dub. Unlike the over-processed, electronic style of most modern dub, Scientist is kicking it old-school here: Echo chambers, reverb, hand percussion, horns, even bits of Augustus Pablo-style melodica and Lee 'Scratch' Perry-trademarked sound effects float by on booming roots-style rhythms powered by Phanso's hyperkinetic drums and Glen Browne's deep-toned, rich bass. The resulting dubs sound simultaneously ultra-modern and reverentially roots-oriented. A uniformly powerful and mellow dub set, Scientist Dubs Culture into a Parallel Universe proves that proper roots dub still survives in an age when gimmickry and novelty rule." --AllMusic

VELVET UNDERGROUND, THE The Velvet Underground & Nico PIC. DISC
2022 repress. 180 gram picture disc in clear plastic sleeve. The Velvets legendary debut album with the Warhol's Banana cover art printed on vinyl. Although Warhol, who was listed as producer on the album, allegedly gave the Velvets free reign over their sound, it was on his insistence that Nico performed on this album. However, this does not detract from the fact that when this album was made the Red Sea parted, and the Velvet Underground crossed into the Promised Land.

MAINETTI, STEFANO Zombi 3 Soundtrack (Special Version) LP
2022 restock, black 140 gram vinyl in a 350 gram jacket. Special DJ Blue Heart version, with included skits/interludes from the movie. We Release Whatever The Fuck We Want Records unleash the complete uncut soundtrack for Lucio Fulci and Bruno Mattei's 1988 cult zombie-ploitation gem Zombi 3 (aka Zombie Flesh Eaters 2, aka Sanguelia 2) for the first time ever on vinyl, available on two different collector's edition vinyl, the "Classic Version" and the "Special Version". This future deluxe edition OOP classic is packed with menacing synths, ghoulish melodies, and contaminated anthems, remastered directly from the rare original reels of maestro Stefano Mainetti. Zombi 3 is the (unrelated) sequel to Zombi 2 (1979), itself an unofficial sequel to George Romero's Dawn Of The Dead (1978). This marvel of the VHS-era finds a group of super scientists working on a very secret biological weapon called Death One which mutates and kills living humans... and re-animates the dead. Feared by critics and beloved by vintage exploitation fanatics, Zombi 3 has all the charms of the glory days of Italian B-horror, including a fantastic soundtrack. Underrated composer and conductor Stefano Mainetti has done soundtracks for Italian sleaze masters Joe D'Amato and Bruno Mattei, but also for Weekend at Bernie's (1989) and First Blood (1982) director Ted Kotcheff, and Russell Mulcahy of Razorback (1984) and Highlander (1986) fame. His resume includes 1988's badass actioner Strike Commando 2 (aka Trappola Diabolica), exploitation horror flick from 1988 Ratman (aka Quella Villa In Fondo Al Parco), and 1995's The Shooter (aka Hidden Assassin) with the manly superstar Dolph Lundgren. Much like his Italian peers Fabio Frizzi, Claudio Simonetti, or Stelvio Cipriani, Stefano Mainetti can do it all: haunting synths à la John Carpenter, jazzy atmospheres, classical orchestrations, erotic funk, decadent FM rock, and the list goes on. His eclectic abilities and flair for '80s cinematic moods are well represented in Zombi 3: The Soundtrack.

KAWAI, KENJI Ghost In The Shell (Original Soundtrack) LP
2022 repress. We Release Whatever The Fuck We Want Records present the ?rst ever official vinyl pressing of the soundtrack for Mamoru Oshii's critically acclaimed and all around legendary science ?ction anime ?lm Ghost In The Shell (1995), adapted from Masamune Shirow's groundbreaking manga series of the same name. The haunting score is composed by Kenji Kawai, one of Japan's most celebrated soundtrack composers alongside Joe Hisaishi and Ryuichi Sakamoto, whose work includes Hideo Nakata's Ring (1998) and Ring 2 (1999), Death Note (2006), Hong Kong ?lms Seven Swords by Tsui Hark (2005) and Ip Man by Wilson Yip (2008), and countless others. Kawai's compositions see ancient harmonies and percussions uncannily mesh with synthesized sounds of the modern world to convey a sumptuous balance between folklore tradition and futuristic outlook. For its iconic main theme "Making Of Cyborg", Kawai had a choir chant a wedding song in ancient Japanese following Bulgarian folk harmonies, setting the standard for a timeless and unparalleled soundtrack that admirably echoes the ?lm's musings on the nature of humanity in a technologically advanced world. Ghost In The Shell is widely considered one of the best anime ?lms of all time and its in?uence has been felt in the work of numerous movie directors, including James Cameron's Avatar (2009), the Wachowskis's The Matrix (1999), and Steven Spielberg's AI: Arti?cial Intelligence (2001). For fans of anime, manga, movie soundtracks, science ?ction, ambient, folklore, Japan, Akira (1988), arti?cial intelligence, Midori Takada. Cut from the original master reels at Emil Berliner Studios (formerly the in-house recording department of renowned classical record label Deutsche Grammophon).

GRAUZONE Grauzone (40 Years Anniversary Edition) 2LP
2022 repress; double LP version. Heavy 350gsm sleeve. WRWTFWW Records reissue Swiss cult band Grauzone's self-titled album in an expanded "40 Years Anniversary Edition" packed with the original 1981 album plus nine extra songs, as well as extensive liner notes by Swiss music historian Lurker Grand. The pioneering band from Bern (Switzerland) had a short-lived but highly-regarded career which birthed a cult discography that still fascinates and resonates today. Consisting of core members Martin Eicher, Stephan Eicher, and Marco Repetto, and on-and-off participants Christian GT Trüssel, Claudine Chirac, and Ingrid Berney, the elusive group broke new grounds in the early '80s, experimenting with punk and industrial music, early techno sounds, minimalism, new wave, pop, and various electronics. With an innovative and polished approach to design, visuals, performance, and all-around style and philosophy on top of their superb music, the constantly transforming unit developed a whole experience -- the Grauzone experience: wild and unpredictable, yet sophisticated and cohesive, or as Swiss music historian Lurker Grand would call it, "an Art band with a Punk attitude." Completely rejecting the music industry rules and refusing to play the game of promotion, touring, release schedules, and TV appearances even though they had a multi-platinum international hit with the song "Eisbär", the band quickly disintegrated in full convention-defying glory, leaving behind an inspiring music legacy for the world to discover and discover again, one generation after the other. This extended version of their debut (and only) album beautifully crystallizes the Grauzone miracle/accident -- where pop and youthful experimentation meet at (new/cold/no) wave and industrial crossroads, and where classic hits ("Eisbär", "FILM 2", "Raum", "Träume Mit Mir", "Der Weg Zu Zweit") flawlessly mesh with unconventional deep cuts ("In Der Nacht", "Film 1", "Maikäfer Flieg"). Very simply put: good timeless music with an edge. Stephan Eicher went on to be, arguably, the most successful Swiss musician ever, with an international career extending from pop chanson to experimental escapades and collaborations with Moondog, artists Sophie Calle and Sylvie Fleury, and author Martin Suter among many other luminaries. Marco Repetto flourished as a techno and ambient producer, releasing multiple projects including releases on Aphex Twin's Rephlex label. Sourced from the original reels and put together under the supervision of band member Stephan Eicher.
