LPCT 015-10

PERRY & THE UPSETTERS, LEE 'SCRATCH': Blackboard Jungle Dub 3x10" BOX (LPCT 015-10) 31.00
New 2014 version, replaces the Get On Down label edition. On colored vinyl. "Contains the full length album spread across three pieces of vinyl, and is housed in full-color hinged box secured with a magnetic clasp."

AL 9514LP

"Loaded with perceptive and poignant observations on the state of America as it advanced into a new and uncertain decade, 1980 is a powerful final album of the 1970s for Scott-Heron and his partner Brian Jackson. Amazingly, Scott-Heron's focus at the close of the decade is strikingly similar to his focus on his 1970 debut, Small Talk at 125th and Lennox; namely that social and political change has yet to come to many Americans, despite the advancements in technology and other seemingly less significant realms. The enemies are the same: nuclear power and big business ('Shut Um Down'), oppressive governments ('Shah Mot'), and racism ('Willing'). On the title track, Scott-Heron's gaze is set on the future with an eye on the past as well." --All Music Guide

AL 9606LP

SCOTT-HERON, GIL: Moving Target LP (AL 9606LP) 12.00
Exact repro reissue of Gil Scott Heron's Moving Target, originally released in 1982. "Gil Scott-Heron's last proper album for more than a decade, Moving Target was recorded after a period of intense touring (hence the title) and, perhaps understandably, finds the Midnight Band playing a larger role than usual. It also may reflect the group's travels, as the typical, tastefully jazzy R&B and funk grooves -- like set-opener 'Fast Lane' and 'Explanations' -- are supplemented with more exotic sounds." --All Music Guide

AUS 1470EP

HUXLEY: I Want You 12" (AUS 1470EP) 14.00
The slick, modern vocal house of "I Want You" is the first single taken from Huxley's debut LP Blurred on Aus/!K7 and it drops, along with remixes from Youandewan and Huxley himself. "I Want You" is the perfect lead-in and it's one of Huxley's deepest cuts to date, with layered melodies, rounded percussion and an incredible vocal. Huxley's powerful "club rub" shifts the focus to the dancefloor a little more. Youandewan takes things deeper with his remix, a blessed-out exercise in smooth musical transitions and subtle dubbing techniques. "Sphere" is characterized by a strident rhythm track and piano licks, but the devil is in the detail.

AX 065LP

MILLS, JEFF: Emerging Crystal Universe 3LP (AX 065LP) 34.00
Triple LP version, limited to 500 copies. Full color artwork by Gustavo Alberto Garcia Vaca. "The 8th chapter of Jeff Mills' Sleeper Wakes series. After the previous release of the exotic expedition to The Jungle Planet, his continuing science fiction story makes a significant turn to a Parallel Universe. (Emerging Crystal Universe) explores what the cosmos might become."

ZIGON, PATRICK: Ich See 12" (BIOLAB 004EP) 14.00
The German DJ & producer Patrick Zigon is back with his label Biotop, and with his first vinyl release after two years. "Ich See" is a typical Patrick Zigon track with deep and dubby chords and atmospheres, a huge kick, a heavy bass line and strong, undeniable Detroit-influences. Some call it neo-Detroit, some call it Detroit-dub. Pablo Bolivar's remix stays very close to the original, adding a huge organ bass line, which makes it even more melodic, deep and house-y. Noah Pred completely rebuilds the track, adding noises and bleeps, and delivers a techy, trippy voyage. Also features a remix by Honest People.

CUT HANDS: Festival of the Dead 2LP (BLACKEST 010LP) 34.50
2LP version housed in high gloss gatefold sleeve. Includes mp3/FLAC download. It is said that the gods of the dead demand you ritualistically commit to each intensely hot beat of the ceremonial drum. Now, here, is the music for their celebration of death, music to dance together with, to oblivion, a music both spectacular and ecstatic where, like never before, the spirits of Santería and Voudou mix with raw electricity into burning diabolical polyrhythms. Festival of the Dead is without doubt the most potent distillation yet of Cut Hands' malign percussive energy, with pieces like "The Claw" and "Vaudou Take Me High" leading the irresistible polyrhythmic assault in pursuit of one thing: a final rapturous celebration of oblivion. Written and produced by William Bennett.

BG 2016LP

HOUSE, SON: The Real Delta Blues: 14 Songs From the Man Who Taught Robert Johnson LP (BG 2016LP) 12.00
1974 collection of Delta blues legend Son House. "...a cross-section of the most effective House material his co-discoverer Nick Perls privately taped in the early sixties... On this set of recordings (some made in private homes, others at a now-defunct Washington, DC coffeehouse where House, John Hurt, and Skip James all once held court) House often sang as if there were no audience, other than himself."

The Extended Versions were one of THE bands in the early '90s in Austria, combining avant-garde, politics, electronics and rock. After two regular albums, they worked as The More Extended Versions with Robert Wyatt for two more albums. Christof Kurzmann later founded the label Charhizma, is active today in the groups Made To Break (with Ken Vandermark), El Infierno Musical, Magic I.D., and others. Christof Kurzmann (bass, vocals, saxophone, sampler); Helmut Heiland (guitar, bass, drum computer). Remastering 2014 by Martin Siewert.

CC 016CD

JAW & FRIENDS: Midtown CD (CC 016CD) 17.00
A unique project gathering 19 tracks from 18 prolific producers including Claude VonStroke, Brodinski, Cassius and Art Department, centered around one inimitable singer; JAW. Midtown is the ambitious sound of an artist reflecting on his vision of the world, through collaborations with friends from every corner of the planet. You may know JAW by name, but most will know him by voice. As the frontman of French house wildcards dOP and their indie-pop side-project, Les Fils du Calvaire, JAW has blossomed into one of the most distinctive performers in a scene where few dare to cross the barrier of the DJ booth. From bedroom set-ups to street recordings to high-end studios, spanning melancholic folk, electro pop and apocalyptic R&B, Midtown is the culmination of years JAW has spent connecting with like-minded artists, challenging himself to use his unmistakable voice in different ways. Placing the emphasis on having fun, whether the music be dark and obtuse, or upbeat and flamboyant, the result is 19 different recording spaces with 19 different textures, ensuring that no two moments on Midtown feel the same. As the vocalist for madcap house wayfarers dOP, Jonathan Illel has seduced the hearts and minds of dancefloor dwellers, holding them captive with his voice. He worked with a host of different producers on Midtown including The/Das, Claude VonStroke, Piers Faccini, Kevork Keshishian, Cassius, Claptone, Seuil, Para One, Mim Youthman & Marger, Chaim, Steve Smyth, Art Department, Saschienne, Rose Ryot, Brodinski, and more. With Midtown, he intends to make the perfect introductory statement, identifying himself in every shade of music and to give listeners the full picture. Forcing producers to go outside their comfort zone to meet his musical vision, while adopting a unique singing style for each track, JAW has sought to craft the ultimate collection of music to represent who he is.

REBEKAH: CLR Presents Mind Sets: Rebekah - Sampler 1 12" (CLR 081EP) 14.00
With Mind Sets, CLR artist Rebekah is introducing a new format on the imprint, consisting of an hour and a half mix and two subsequent EP samplers for release. The first of the two EP samplers Rebekah compiled for this launch release consists entirely of exclusive productions which capture a moment in time within the continuously changing techno genre. With their outstanding productions, Perc, Dark Chambers, Pfirter and Operator, have delivered superb manifestations of this exciting moment in techno history.

REBEKAH: CLR Presents Mind Sets: Rebekah - Sampler 2 12" (CLR 082EP) 14.00
Rebekah delivers the third and last part of CLR's new format. Once more, Rebekah has chosen a mixture of tracks by fellow CLR players and other colleagues she admires for their cutting-edge, quality production style. Brian Sanhaji contributed "Gyre," a truly mesmerizing, acidic journey. "Berkel" was produced by Dualit and is characterized by a comparatively laid-back vibe. The B-side contains two more tracks by Bas Mooy and by Rebekah herself. Bas Mooy's "Exile" is another good example of minimalistic, driving and hypnotic techno, while Rebekah manifests with "Zero Point," straight-forward, full on, banging techno with heaps of positive energy.

CST 9018LP

CATALYST: Catalyst LP (CST 9018LP) 12.00
"In the early '70s a band named Catalyst was formed in the heart of Philadelphia. The core of the group was Odean Pope, Sherman Ferguson, Eddie Green and Al Johnson (who was replaced by Tyrone Brown after their first album). The band drew from a wide range of musical styles; jazz, funk, R&B, avant-garde and fusion all found their way into the creative sonic tapestry of Catalyst." Exact repro reissue, originally released in 1972.

PENNER, NILS: Compost Black Label 121 12" (COMP 460EP) 12.00
Nils Penner delivers some vibrant, disco-ish deep house tracks. Space Ranger's remix is a subtle jackin' floorfiller and Paskal & Urban Absolutes prove again their fine production skills with their groovin', deep rework.

LEE (FEAT. ALISON DAVID), ED: You Are the Star EP 12" (CODIS 011EP) 12.00
DJ & producer Ed Lee has put his name firmly in the limelight as one of the UK's emerging talents. This is the first single from his forthcoming album with tracks featuring Alison David on vocals. Alison David commands attention with an enchanting, magical stage presence. She has had an extensive recording career, been signed to Polygram, Sony BMG and Mercury Records and championed by various famous artists such as The Black Science Orchestra, Colin Firth, Pete Townshend (The Who), Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) and Nile Rodgers (Chic). Remixes from Moonstarr and Akshin Alizadeh.

CARTER TUTTI: Coolicon 10" (CTIV 045EP) 16.50
2014 repress. Carter Tutti (Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti) release their first single in over 20 years on their own CTI label. The double A-side 10" single featuring two versions of "Coolicon" was originally only available by mail order as a limited edition on green vinyl, but due to popular demand has been repressed as a regular black vinyl 10". "Coolicon" is the name of the manufacturer of an old metal lampshade electronic pioneer Delia Derbyshire used to "sample" while at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop in the 1960s.

ABSTRACT MATTERS: Neighbors EP 12" (CYN 096EP) 12.50
Abstract Matters is a brand-new collaboration between two neighbors from Puglia, Italy. After years of not seeing each other, they reunited and came together in the studio to deliver the Neighbors EP. Both are prolific Italian DJ/producers, having released on several international house and techno labels worldwide.

DFC 5501EP

GLAM WITH PETE BURNS: Sex Drive (2014 Remixes) 12" (DFC 5501EP) 14.50
Glam was the name used by Italian hits producers DFC Team to present their cult record Hell's Party. For their second Glams record DFC Team wanted one of their favorite artists of all times: Pete Burns of Dead Or Alive. Pete was really excited by Glam's demo and wrote one of his best songs: this is the story of "Sex Drive," that soon became a hit in 1994. Today, exactly 20 years later, DFC label re-releases "Sex Drive," with four wonderful new remixes, a real hot record that Pete Burns' and Glam's old and new fans cannot miss.

BRODANSE: The Ride (feat. Cari Golden) 12" (DCR 015EP) 14.00
Danse Club label bosses Scott & Austen Smart aka Brodanse unleash their second release on the label, The Ride featuring vocals from Cari Golden. The release kicks off with the original version of "Nobody Walks," a tough and grooving slice of vocal house. Turning the record over will show you a darker side to the Brodanse signature groove. "In the House" is a solid, rolling tech-house banger -- definitely a tool for a club floor wanting to push the envelope. "Reactivate" is a dark, rolling DBX/Radio Slave-inspired take on tech-house, using filtered chords, deep sine bass, 909 rides and eerie vocals.

DV 9047CD

JAY DEE: Yancey Boys Instrumentals CD (DV 9047CD) 16.00
"The heads have made a demand. The standard vocal version of 'Yancey Boys' is not enough to satisfy their thirst for Jay Dee beats. They said an instrumental version has to be released, and luckily Delicious Vinyl is willing to supply the material to fill this request. John 'Illa J' Yancey, younger brother of late, great genius producer James Yancey (aka Jay Dee, J Dilla), recently released his debut album. Rhyming and singing over a treasure trove of previously untouched Jay Dee gems, the project represents both a full-circle collaboration and a whole new beginning in the story of the musically exceptional Yancey brothers."

CONFORCE: Depth Over Distance 12" (DSR 107EP) 12.50
Boris Bunnik is back under his most-loved alias, Conforce, on his most regular home, Delsin. "Depth Over Distance" is driven by buried deep kick drums, up top are thin lead lines that leave trails like beams of light as ticking percussion and more widescreen synths flesh out the airwaves. "Plateau" is less spacious and has more detail in its midst including clacking hits which reverb off into the distance. "Rendez Vous" is more directed at the dancefloor with big drums, cold and edgy chords and gentle acid lashings. "Closer" is another airy and cavernous bit of ambient music that is somber and serious.

HASLAM, GUNNAR: Ataxia No Logos 12" (DSR C1-EP) 12.50
Gunnar Haslam steps up with a new four-track EP on Delsin that showcases his wide-ranging style. The EP opens with "Corridor Metaphysics," a high-pressure bit of deep techno with urgent drums and eerie, haunting glass-tinkling sounds. "Ataxia No Logos" is then a spangled and disorientating track with panning and ever more manic synths encircling the listener. "Dunsinane Hill" is more tender and sensitive, with deep house chords and drums peppered with loose tin pot percussion. "Discrete Markov Dub" is a rippling bit of techno with crisp hits, a fat bass line that pulls you right in and oversized hi-hats leaving long trails.

MONOTON: Monotonprodukt 02 LP (DESIRE 114LP) 23.50
"Although Monoton dried up in 1992, its entire output consisting of a handful of mini-albums and limited-run EPs, its minimalist electronica appears increasingly ahead of its time. The sole work of Austria's Konrad Becker, it was a key influence on the brand of Eurotronica found on labels from Kompakt to Mego. Becker began hooking up analog rhythm boxes and tone generators in late '70s Vienna, churning out a terse music of bleeps, pings and subsonic pulses, all plunged in tape delay and reverb. Blau -- originally titled Monotonprodukt 02 -- was Monoton's first release from 1980. The buzzing machines often sound strained to their limits, yet the overall mood is somber, a palette of grays and umbers punctuated by Becker's incoherent murmurs. 'Dubwise' is a spooky premonition of Rhythm And Sound's Germanic reggae. Muffled steel drums resound around 'Wirklichkeit,' while 'Teil 2' is seared with a violin drone. Even after 28 years, Monoton's unearthly, steely beauty is preserved intact." --Rob Young; This classic album is now reissued on vinyl for the first time ever and original copies exchange for $200 nowadays. 1,000 copies on clear blue vinyl. 350 gram sleeve with holes. Printed inner. Includes a download code.

ISAIAH: Isaiah 2LP/2CD (DIG 002LP) 38.50
Isaiah's only album (1975) features a mix of jazz, blues and progressive rock elements. Led by the charismatic voice of flautist and guitarist Gert Raabe, the band counts as one of Austria's most versatile bands of the 1970s, often likened to Jethro Tull, Yes and ELP. Digatone restored their demos for the previously-unreleased second album which were declined by the label at the time for being too weird. The band disbanded in 1977. Original copies of the album very rarely come up for sale these days and when they do, command a price of several hundred Euros. For the first time available as a 2LP + 2CD deluxe reissue including their rare original album, an LP full of unreleased songs, liner notes & enhanced bonus material. Limited to 750 copies.

GED 1007LP

COOLIN' SYSTEM, THE: Refrigerate After Opening LP (GED 1007LP) 21.00
"The contents of this mini-refrigerator include the final recorded output of Nashville's soul-jazz champions, the Coolin' System. Recorded on Memorial Day 2012, this session represents the peak of a 7 piece band that lit up the catalog of GED Soul Records with their finely-tuned, straight to tape sessions. The band members all moved on to even greater things, and the session remained locked in the vaults. Until now! Tackling classic deep-cut tunes by Horace Silver, Jimmy McGriff, Lou Donaldson, Cedar Walton, and many more, this record mixes a fierce funk attack with movements that take the listener straight into outer space. By the end of the classic Keith Mansfield tune, 'Soul Thing,' you will want to flip this record right back to Side A and start it all over again." Includes download code.

GET 52716LP

OL' DIRTY BASTARD: Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version 2LP (GET 52716LP) 23.00
2014 repress. "It's safe to say that hip-hop has never seen an album like Ol' Dirty Bastard's 1995 solo debut Return to the 36 Chambers. The brief glimpses of ODB's unhinged genius provided by Wu-Tang Clan's landmark Enter the Wu-Tang album two years earlier were begging to be expanded on to a larger canvas, and, with RZA guiding production, the album promised to give Dirty the creative license to make one of the most bizarre, entertaining and original LPs in hip-hop history. With his raspy, drunken flow and dark sense of humor, Dirty fearlessly attacks from all angles, throwing himself fearlessly into punchy rhyme attacks ('Damage,' with GZA), drugged-out party jams (the monster singles 'Brooklyn Zoo' and 'Shimmy Shimmy Ya') and bizarre, grimly hilarious fantasies of sex and violence ('Don't U Know' and the R&B-tinged 'Sweet Sugar Pie'). Backed by RZA's appropriately gritty, dissonant beats and appearances from the Clan, Return became an instant hit, selling over 1 million copies and earning a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap Album in 1996. The album stands as a high water mark in the Wu Tang Clan's collective creative output and was selected as one of the Best 100 Rap Albums by The Source magazine in 1998. In honoring the legacy of one of hip-hop's most innovative releases, Get On Down is proud to present this incredible and unique special edition of Ol' Dirty Bastard's Return to the 36 Chambers as a double LP which contains the complete original album, remastered for optimal sound quality." Includes 18"x24" poster.

ARSONISTS: The Sessions/Halloween 7" (GET 709EP) 11.00
"'The Sessions' catapulted The Arsonists as one of the pillars of the then new bubbling indy scene that was coming out of New York in the early to mid 90's. With heavy play on the famed Stretch Armstrong show (hosted by Bobitto -- who initially released the song on his legendary Fondle 'Em Records) the song stood out showcasing the charismatic MC's over an infectious jazzy bassline. Part Leaders of the New School, part Native Tongues, 'The Sessions' was a special blend of originality that was lacking in the climate of Hip Hop at the time of its release. For the B Side with 'Halloween' The Arsonists take things conceptually pointing out the many 'masks' people wear stating that 'every day's like Halloween/nothing's what it seems' over an equally powerful piano laced beat. The single overall was a breath of fresh air and gave hip hop fans a taste of what was lacking -- and an idea of great things to come from The Arsonists."

KESSLER, BRYAN: New York, Baby 12" (GPM 272EP) 14.00
Punk renegade, songwriting wunderkind and all-around exceptional producer Bryan Kessler is a man of many faces, and all of them rock. It's his mighty fine electronic swagger (and a hearty disrespect for genre norms) which has already led to powerful solo releases on Get Physical and LIKE Records. On this EP he shows his experimental red line in sound with a skillful easiness, marking the earth-shattering first steps of a truly remarkable new voice in a traditionally complacent dance industry: little fishes, beware: there's a new shark in the pond.

JACKSON, THOMASS: Smog City EP 12" (GOMMA 204EP) 14.00
Thomass Jackson is a new entry in the Gomma crew. Thomass is part of the new vibrant Mexico City electronic scene. Similar to many dudes who do house music in a less formulated style, he comes from playing instruments: bass, guitar, drums -- in funk bands -- before getting into electronic production and DJing. After two releases on other labels (Electrique Music and La Dame Noir), he now lands on the Gomma planet. Be ready -- he is serious.

FELICITA: Frenemies EP 12" (GUM 001EP) 12.00
The Gum label presents Felicita's Frenemies EP. Wind and coil, bend and twist, swells with water, smoothes with oil..... 'n now it's morning and I've been thinking like allll night [it's perfectly natural]. ~ take a tissue pick a cherry come save me! take a tissue pick a cherry come save me! take a tissue pick a cherry come save me! take a cherry pick a tissue........ my hair it's black CLIMB UP EH. lean out the window climb up eh. Available as a limited yellow 12" wtih a drawstring bag designed by Cottweiler X felicita. This first release by Gum, a new label where artefacts are formats.

PANABRITE: Pavilion LP (IMMUNE 033LP) 19.00
"Over the last four years, Seattle synthesist Panabrite (aka Norm Chambers) has become one of America's most prolific and proficient creators of transcendent electronic music. Chambers is an ardent explorer of great, underground music and it's demonstrated on Pavilion as 'a love letter to some Italian albums from the classic '70s era of minimalism and prog,' such as Lovisoni/ Messina's Prati Bagnati Del Monte Analogo, Franco Battiato's Clic, Claudio Rocchi's Suoni Di Frontiera, and American-to-Rome transplant Alvin Curran's Canti E Vedute Del Giardino Magnetico. Chambers praises their 'freewheeling studio experimentalism crossed with the most elegant, stunning (non)ambient music.' He strove for a similar feeling in Pavilion by playing 90 percent of everything by hand and opting for minimal use of sequencers." Includes download code.

THROBBING GRISTLE: D.O.A.: The Third And Final Report Of Throbbing Gristle 2CD (IRL 002CD) 21.00
2014 repress. Throbbing Gristle's second full-length, originally released in 1978, captures alienation in its purest form. The line-up of Chris Carter, Peter Christopherson, Genesis P-Orridge and Cosey Fanni Tutti was a vehicle for everything bizarre, extreme and controversial. From the ravaged live track "Blood On The Floor" to the hostile phone recording on "Death Threats," TG lobotomized convention, whether musical or ideological. The lingering "Hamburger Lady" pulses with a story of a burn victim, and the band's restraint and careful composition makes it one of their best creations of all time, something absolutely terrifying. Full of tape-manipulation, computer noise and feedback, D.O.A epitomizes Throbbing Gristle's unparalleled anti-music, cementing their status as "wreckers of civilization." Cover artwork has been painstakingly restored from the original source material. Part of the re-release of Throbbing Gristle's first five albums on vinyl and CD. Each album has been restored and remastered specifically for each format by Chris Carter from 24bit "baked tape" digital transfers of the original first generation analogue master tapes. Each of the CD special-editions are presented in a gatefold sleeve featuring restored and remastered cover artwork and an integrated 8-page booklet (the booklets feature different artwork and content than the vinyl editions). Each CD special-edition also includes an exclusive bonus CD containing content from the year of the album's original release, including live tracks and remastered singles.

THROBBING GRISTLE: Throbbing Gristle Bring You... 20 Jazz Funk Greats 2CD (IRL 003CD) 21.00
2014 repress. Originally released in 1979, 20 Jazz Funk Greats is Throbbing Gristle's pop-influenced masterwork. It's hard to believe the beautiful, conventionally-attractive Cosey Fanni Tutti on this album's front cover previously gave herself milk and blood enemas in front of a live audience. Additionally, the song "Hot On The Heels Of Love" is far removed from the dissonant nihilism of the previous TG albums. It's a sleek, minimal synth-pop song that foreshadows Tutti's later work as Chris & Cosey. Still, 20 Jazz Funk Greats is underpinned by a profound distance from accessibility. The breezy luminosity of "Persuasion" and "Six Six Sixties" is still marked with casual bits of distortion and absurdism. Preceding dark synth-pop (and everything else), TG's third album is far ahead of its time and still sounds as relevant as ever. The CD version includes a bonus CD of live recordings, including two versions of the manic classic, "Discipline." The 8-page full-color book includes visual ephemera and previously-unpublished photographs. Cover artwork has been painstakingly restored from the original source material.

THROBBING GRISTLE: Heathen Earth: The Live Sound Of Throbbing Gristle 2CD (IRL 004CD) 21.00
2014 repress. Originally released in 1980, Heathen Earth is a crucial live document of industrial pioneers Throbbing Gristle. In member Chris Carter's own words: "You had to have been there. Which is what we always say about TG. TG on record and TG live are two completely different things." This album is probably the closest approximation of the two you'll ever get: it's a "live in-studio recording" made in front of a small audience and the event was filmed by Monte Cazzaza with the intention of also releasing it on video. The majority of the set is instrumental, fluctuating between the raw electronics of their early work and the band's more melodic material. Tracks include a rework of early classic "After Cease To Exist" and Brion Gysin fave "Dreammachine." The bonus CD includes live recordings, plus the 7" single versions of "Subhuman" and "Adrenalin." Part of the re-release of Throbbing Gristle's first five albums on vinyl and CD.

LL 010LP

YOUNGE, ADRIAN: Black Dynamite: Instrumentals LP (LL 010LP) 21.00
"The first official release from multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, and producer Adrian Younge was Black Dynamite, the meticulously crafted sonic accompaniment to the 2009 Michael Jai White comedy. Now, for the first time ever, Mr. Younge presents the instrumentals from Black Dynamite on his on Linear Labs imprint. Inspired by the great blaxploitation soundtracks of the 1970s, Younge commands the Rhodes electric piano, Hammond organ, Hohner Clavinet, harpsichord, synthesizer, vibraphone, guitar, bass, flute, sax, cello, and drums to craft a singular vision of the era. Since its release, the film has grown into a formidable franchise including a comic book and animated television series on Cartoon Network. Now five years later, the score is being reissued with the full set of instrumentals and four additional tracks including a rare version of 'Jimmy's Dead' by Tommy Davidson. A certifiable cult classic, the film centers around ex-CIA agent Black Dynamite's fight to avenge his brother's murder while cleaning up the streets of the deadly Anaconda malt liquor. Having been involved with the film from its inception, Younge's score is intimately woven into the film's narrative. As editor, Younge worked closely with director Scott Sanders to ensure the authenticity of the film's pace and musical accompaniment. The final result is a clever homage that sounds more like an unearthed gem from the '70s -- complete with MPC-ready Wu-Tang samples -- rather than a modern creation. This authentic sound is one that Younge has been cultivating for years. His ability to replicate the nuanced stylistic effects of a bygone era are the result of utilizing exclusively vintage analog recording equipment and techniques, and long hours studying the sounds of heroes like Ennio Morricone and Curtis Mayfield. Laboring away in his Los Angeles based Linear Labs studio, Younge played every instrument on the record, teaching himself anything he didn't already know. Through a dogged work ethic and determination, Younge has painstakingly constructed a modern vintage sound that harkens to the past with its sights on the future. Black Dynamite is a must-have for any fan of the blaxploitation era and dark soul music, a modern-day classic whose legendary status will only grow stronger over time."

KING CHAMPION SOUNDS: Songs for the Golden Hour 10"/CD (LOUD 002LP) 22.00

AMABIS: Trabalhos Carnivoros CD (MAIS 028CD) 15.50
Celebrated Brazilian songwriter-producer-multi-instrumentalist Amabis, who produced Rita Redshoes' album Life Is a Second of Love, proves beyond any doubt on his latest release Trabalhos Carnivoros that he can now add vocalist to his list of musical talents with this assured masterpiece of atmospheric, stripped-down cinematic folk where his vocals take center stage. With his previous album Memorias Luso/Africanas featuring vocals from Lucas Santtana, Criolo, Céu and Tulipa, it was a brave move by Amabis to shoulder all vocal duties himself, yet he does so with aplomb, and his melancholic delivery is the perfect foil to the spooky reverbed guitars, echoing silence and rhythmic claustrophobia that he and his long-term musical partner Regis Damasceno have crafted. Mostly known for his production work -- famously on Céu's acclaimed second and third albums Vagarosa and Caravana Sereia Bloom -- Amabis has also worked on soundtracks for both Brazilian TV (City of Men) and Hollywood (Lord of War, Collateral) and is an in-demand musician who's featured on records by Rodrigo Campos, Curumin and Lucas Santtana. Alongside Céu, Rica Amabis and Dengue And Pupillo (Nacao Zumbi) he recorded Sonantes, released by Six Degrees.

CHOGORI: Chogori LP (MDF 001LP) 23.50
Modularfield Records presents the debut album from Chogorie. It was recorded on a 24-track Studer tape machine and is released on black vinyl. The album captures the ruff acoustic essence of the trio, representing the typical sound build upon the analog synthesizer and the bowed double-bass played by the formation around Ralf Stritt and Gregor Kerkmann. Their focus lies on the hypnotic rhythms and the emotional depth of the compositions, performed with implicit ease. Limited vinyl LP including a digital download card.

DARK SKY: Rainkist 12" (MONKEY 051EP) 12.00
Dark Sky present their smoothest track yet with "Rainkist" for Monkeytown. The sheer genius of the bass line makes this a gem of a modern soul ballad and its melodic elegance gleams through the track like shining chrome. Hazy falsetto vocals make the song drip sweat and sex. The Trevino remix adds sci-fi synths and electro snares and claps and turns "Rainkist" into a captivating slow-burner, perfect for long build-ups. Marcel Dettman's slowly-evolving remix pitches the harmonies of the vocals and pairs them with a pumping sub-bass, extending the suspense-packed intro into a pumping techno track. Hotly-tipped to spearhead the year-end polls for best remixes in 2014.

MPS 53161LP

CHERRY, DON: Eternal Rhythm LP (MPS 53161LP) 12.00
Gatefold exact repro reissue of Don Cherry's classic Eternal Rhythm Group, recorded at the Berlin Jazz Festival, 1968. An amazing line up of: Cherry (cornet, gender and saron [gamelan], flutes), Albert Mangelsdorff (trombone), Eje Thelin (trombone), Bernt Rosengren (tenor sax, oboe, clarinet, flute), Sonny Sharrock (guitar), Karl Berger (vibes, piano, gender), Joachim Kühn (piano, prepared piano), Arild Andersen (bass), & Jacques Thollot (drums, saron, gong, bells, voice). Two "side-long" pieces with gamelan underlining for the perfect gush of cosmic interlude.

MULLAERT AND EITAN REITER, SEBASTIAN: Reflections of Nothingness 2LP (MUSIQ 179LP) 27.50
Double LP version. "Enter the Spiral" -- the title of the opening track by the first collaborative work between Sebastian Mullaert and Eitan Reiter is not just a random name. It is a title which anticipates what can happen if you let yourself go alongside their nine epic musical trips. They all emerged out of a free-flowing improvised communication between the DJs and producers from Sweden and Israel. They both first deeply met at a festival in Tulum, Mexico where they played together at the end of the Mayan calendar. During their Yucatán days, they connected intensely and subsequently stayed in touch. Finally Eitan proposed the idea to visit Sebastian in his dropout studio in the Swedish woods in the north of Malmö. Sebastian instantly said yes, and added, without knowing, another chapter to a vibrant artistic year, in which he started to focus on his solo work and took a hiatus from his famed project Minilogue, after playing, producing, and performing with his close friend Marcus Henriksson for more than 16 years. Warmly welcomed in a little Swedish village right at the entrance of a big National Park, Eitan, who produces and releases genre-crossing electronic and electro-acoustic music solo or in projects such as Loud since the mid-noughties, found himself right in the center of Sebastian's family. Absorbed by the sense of oneness in their daily existence, they started to communicate in the studio, aimlessly building an intersection between the outer and the inner world. It turned out to be a celestial, dynamic voyage of unconscious emotions, producing a unique journey in sound. They drift on ambient territories, they let their heartbeats out via knocking techno beats, go deeply into moments of trance and drop some sparkling acid arpeggios while dipping into all sorts of electronic musical expressions. You cannot put their collaboration into one stylistic corner -- you can only say that all their music distributes the feeling of an unvarnished musical trip. The album was largely made on a Roland TB303, TR808, SH101 and Juno 60, but there is also Sebastian's Fender Rhodes audible on almost every track. In addition they used strange vocal samples, Eitan sings, cymbals howl, an electronic children's book has been used as an instrument, and there are also tons of external effects. With a free-spirited teamwork the sonority can absorb the listener deeply -- just like Eitan and Sebastian were absorbed by their days in nature.

SOUND CEREMONY: Guitar Star LP (OKF 011LP) 17.00
"First time vinyl reissue of the Outsider, Real People, proto-punk fuzz of Ron Warren Ganderton's debut under the Sound Ceremony name, Guitar Star, replete with more mellow modes than later offerings. During the late 1970s multi-instrumentalist Ganderton (guitar, harmonica, keyboards and piano) along with a rotating cast of accompanists (including future members of the Pretenders, late period progressive rockers Quasar, and Subway Sect) created a hard to narrowly define, small catalog of sounds praised by private-press hunters, esoteric appreciators and 'out of time' searchers. Ganderton's output holds echoes of monotone mavens like proto-punks Jonathan Richman and Lou Reed, similarities to cult-raved acts such as Armand Schaubroeck and Kenneth Higney, and carries a loose influence of the 'talking blues' tradition while maintaining a uniqueness and singularity laced with '60s fuzz, primitive and skittering rhythms, and alternately confrontational and heart-on-sleeve topicality -- thusly eking out its own sonic territory with a population of one. To put it down succinctly, just like a period advertisement did, Ron Warren Ganderton is, 'One of rock's individuals.' Insert with detailed liner notes from Jeremy Cargill (Ugly Things / Got Kinda Lost), plus rare photos."

OP 014EP

DALT, LUCRECIA: EP 10" (OP 014EP) 14.00
Following and expanding upon the line of thought put forward in her 2013 album Syzygy, Lucrecia Dalt ends in a place familiar, yet noticeably different on her new EP. Its two tracks, "Esotro" and "Veta" continually defy expectation -- haunting vocal ballads that trickle into clouds of white noise -- but for an acquainted listener, that won't surprise. What may are the music's newly raw textures and palpable weight, counterbalancing the carefully wrought beauty that's always been there.

MODERN HEADS: Chapter II 12" (OUTIS 006EP) 14.00
After a few years away from the scene, Modern Heads aka Dino Sabatini & Gianluca Meloni are back with a new 12". This is the second chapter in an adventure that began in 2001 in a basement in Rome and is a journey through various labels, Elettronica Romana, Dozzy Records, and Stroboscopic Artefacts. The duo comes up with a vinyl 12" of two tracks. "Beginning" is the track which this new 12" is based around and includes a feeling of space, harmony, and distant tribal references. "Unknown Route" is a track that you can use as a tool -- acidic and sharp.

YOUNG-HOLT UNLIMITED: Plays Super Fly LP (PAULA 4002LP) 12.00
Exact repro of "solid stoned groove monsters" Young & Holt's 1973 album covering the Curtis Mayfield classic.

NEW JACKSON: Having a Coke with You 12" (PERMVAC 132EP) 12.00
New Jackson gets his second EP for PV in (crystal) motion with the bustling Balearica of "Having a Coke with You," a euphoric, 11-minute, string-y sprawl which will not go wasted on you. The Dublin producer reverts to vocoder-type with the precise electro-funk of "OK Alone OK," before closing proceedings with "Player Piano" -- five minutes of pleasingly-tight boogie stomp. Cover and inner artwork by Practice & Theory.

SCHLAMMPEITZIGER: What's Fruit? LP (PING 042LP) 20.00
LP version. Includes download code. With his new album What's Fruit, Schlammpeitziger touches the dancefloor more than ever before in his 22-year long career. Yet his dancefloor is a playful one. The Cologne-based composer's sounds electrify with their multi-layered melodic structures. He weaves countless details to perfection into a high-density of musical activity, always focusing on the slow, driving beats which hold everything together. Each of the eight tracks represents shades of the unique humor we love about Schlammpeitziger: the tricky question about what are those things we call fruit, or his mantric German lyrics on "Schneid ein Stuck aus der Zeit" are charming messages which never fail to be heard in the guise of those lovely synth hooks. This new Schlammpeitziger disco has its source in a situation which does not quite promise relaxed creativity: in the past year Schlammpeitziger's studio in Cologne has been surrounded by construction-work. Locked up in his private space between massive hums, squealing saws, and pulsating jackhammers, he delivers this relaxed album. It comes across with the freshness of a debut work. Contrary to his previous records, which had been mostly made with analog synths, this album was produced with iPad synths 90% of the time, before taking the mixes to Stefan Mohr's (ex-member of the band Workshop) mixing console.

SHOW-B: Arps EP 12" (PLD 037EP) 14.00
Mathias "SHOW-B" Schober makes his Pooledmusic debut with the Arps EP. This 12" sees SHOW-B blending his various talents on the A-side "Arps to Heaven," a heady deep house track with a swirling melody. Ian Pooley fuses the original's psychedelic elements with a classic, irresistible Pooley groove. "Isifuba" sees Schober focusing on a swinging house beat structure for the early hours dancefloors.

MOD21: Ben's Wolves 12" (PRG 038EP) 14.00
After his fantastic debut on Prologue Portefeuille 3, Mod21 comes back with his first 12" and shows us his massive talent for deep, complex techno journeys. Instinctive, hypnotic rhythms with multi-dimensional techno beats and ambient structures. Let's meet together in the dark space.

I.N.T.: Percy La Rock EP 12" (RWINA 025EP) 14.00
Percy Samidjono, better known by his stage name I.N.T. is a Dutch producer, DJ and performing artist originally from Amsterdam and Rwina's newest addition to its artist roster. "Percy La Rock" was the name given to I.N.T. by Charlie Ahearn, the director of Wildstyle. This seven-track EP is a diverse and unique record in the hip-hop/soul spectrum, with dreamy vocals from singers like Steve Hartley and Sasha Vee and some proper brag n' boast raps from the Detroit legend Guilty Simpson. Support comes from: Dilated Peoples, Jose James, LeFtO, Gilles Peterson and Machinedrum.

SZABO, GABOR: Macho LP (SAL 704LP) 12.00
Exact repro of Hungarian guitarist Gabor Szabo's 1975 album. "Dave Brubeck said... that we would see a gradual blending of the world's musical cultures. It has happened with astonishing swiftness, as this album shows. Consider particularly the tune 'Macho.' It is a jazz piece, composed by a Hungarian guitarist out of Spanish melodic and harmonic elements, arranged by an American pianist, and with the rhythm section using materials from both Brazil and Cuba."

VHS HEAD: Persistence of Vision CD (SKALD 030CD) 14.50
Picking up from and advancing on his well-received 2010 debut full-length offering Trademark Ribbons of Gold, VHS Head continues in his exploration of emotive sketchbook electronics, cutting up and sampling reams and reams of old school VHS tapes to create a baffling, arresting and nostalgic trip into the world of twisted, lo-fi, tape-compressed electronica. VHS Head perverts all manners of sound sources, both musical and not, in a melting pot of deranged creativity, wrangling melodies out of disparate snatches of sounds and welding the results over a variety of differing percussive beds and beats ranging from the pastoral lushness of "Angels Never Sleep" or "Do You Understand" travelling through the gamut of styles, all the way through to barbed, hyperactive, glitched-out IDM-inspired workouts such as the glitch-funk of opener "Enter the Devil." Children of the '80s will undoubtedly recognize snatches of sounds from their childhood on this record along with the comforting, fuzzy warmth of the obsolete format that is VHS tape. It contains snatches of quizshow-esque excess, sleazy softcore porn twangs and salutations, crazed kids' TV themes, liberal smatterings of video nasty nastiness and an '80s bad hair, power-rock, noirish edge that at points recalls the feel, tone and subdued menace of Twin Peaks and its ilk. It is a record for 2014, referencing the hazy days when we were all growing up -- a compendium of time and place for the MTV generation and beyond.

VHS HEAD: Persistence of Vision 2LP (SKALD 030LP) 26.50

STL: Sound Transmission 12" (SOME 026EP) 14.00
The latest Sound Transmission from Stephan Laubner under his STL project alias comes in shape of a 12" vinyl for like-minded people who are interested in the DIY sound research of the Something records audio sense facility. The music vibes are settled somewhere between late-night druggy grooved house feelings as well as vintage-touched gravity-free tunes, that should be seen as positive proof that music hasn't to be an always too serious matter. It's sometimes like seeing those blurry pictures in front of your mind's eye shortly before falling down into sleep.

CLP 3666LP

JAMES, SKIP: Devil Got My Woman LP (CLP 3666LP) 12.00
2009 release. "Born in 1902 to a preacher near the small town of Bentonia Mississippi, Nehemiah Curtis Skip James became synonymous with the unique tunings and finger-picking style of Delta blues, later dubbed the Bentonia School. With fire and brimstone in his heart, and the Mississippi blues in his soul, James toiled in relative obscurity for most of his life but his dark, brooding songs were rediscovered in the 60s by rabid blues enthusiasts from across the pond, including one Eric Clapton who recorded James's 'I'm So Glad' for the first Cream album. This vinyl compilation contains not only that track but several of James's best known compositions, from the melancholic 'Devil Got My Woman' to the gospel 'Jesus Is A Mighty Good Leader' and a whole lot more."

EVM128 (FEAT. OMAR): Beyond (Revisited) 12" (STUDR 025EP) 11.00
Studio Rockers proudly brings you Beyond from EVM128, featuring the vocal talent of the godfather of neo-soul, Omar, and, on the remix duties, the skills of young production wizard Marcel Lune. A huge bass groove dominates the start of the track before EVM128 adds his smooth, space-age style over the top to a magical crescendo before Omar comes in with his rich and soulful vocals. There's also the choppy and chewy mix from Marcel Lune, fattening up the synths and adding his own kind of mellow to the track.

SR 378LP

GERHARD, ROBERTO: Electronic Explorations from His Studio + The BBC Radiophonic Workshop 1958-1967 LP (SR 378LP) 15.50
LP version. 350 gram sleeve. Part of Sub Rosa's Early Electronics series. During the 1950s and 1960s, Roberto Gerhard gathered a significant magnetic tape collection in his home studio, creating a major repository of early electronic sound recordings of his own works. The pieces on this record present a complex set of challenges for audio restoration, requiring a complete understanding of his compositional process and allowing the spirit and vitality of his electronic work to speak clearly to the listener. The versions of the pieces you will hear on this record represent an attempt to present Gerhard's musical thoughts as free as possible from distracting technical deficiencies that obscure the musical content of the tapes. To this end a number of processes have been employed to reduce tape hiss and broadband noise, clicks, crackle, mains hum, tape splices and low frequency thuds, ranging from automated algorithms to a more painstaking manual clean-up of the audio spectrum. Every process of musical audio restoration must seek a compromise between the removal of elements that are problematic to the modern listener, and the preservation of the vital sonic and musical characteristics of the recordings. Roberto Gerhard (b. 1896; d. 1970) was born in Valls, Spain. Initially he studied piano with Granados and composition with Felipe Pedrell. When Pedrell died in 1922, Gerhard moved to Vienna as a pupil of Arnold Schoenberg. Returning to Barcelona in 1928, he became a central figure in the Catalonian avant-garde, befriending such figures as Pablo Casals and Joan Miró. Identified with the Republican cause throughout the Spanish Civil War, Gerhard was forced to flee to France in 1939 and later that year settled in Cambridge, England. Once in England, Gerhard produced a series of orchestra and stage works that would establish his international reputation. The Symphony (in memory of Pedrell), the ballet Don Quixote, First String Quartet, and the opera The Duenna followed in quick succession. In the 1950s Gerhard developed his musical style, synthesizing Schoenbergian serialism with Catalan folksong. These years also marked him out as the first composer in England to engage seriously with electronic music. Gerhard worked extensively at the newly-formed BBC Radiophonic Workshop producing a series of abstract electronic works as well as electronic music for stage -- most notably his score for the 1955 Royal Shakespeare Production of King Lear. The last decade of his life saw Gerhard's musical language evolve still further and the composition of late masterpieces such as the Symphony No. 3 "Collages" which includes a significant tape part, Symphony No. 4 "New York," the chamber symphony Leo, and the masterly Concerto for Orchestra.

VA: Saigon Rock & Soul: Vietnamese Classic Tracks 1968-1974 CD (SF 060CD) 15.00
2014 repress. The long-awaited foray into the Vietnamese rock, pop and soul sound of the late 1960s and early 1970s is finally here. Saigon Rock & Soul delivers the goods international retro collectors have been searching for in vain for many years -- and it delivers beyond belief. Every song is a mini-masterpiece, be it heavy acid-rock psychedelia, horn- and guitar-drenched funk grooves, or gripping soul ballads reflective of life during wartime. The tracks that form this collection cut a window into a rich musical Vietnamese music scene that has long been obscured, and for the most part, forgotten. As the scope of electrified Vietnamese music from the 1960s and 1970s begins to be revealed, it becomes evident that this was among the heaviest and most eclectic musical scenes of Southeast Asia at the time. These songs tell of war, love and what war does to love. All of them were recorded in makeshift studios and even U.S. army facilities while the Vietnam War raged -- and were issued by a handful of Saigon record companies on vinyl 45s and reel or cassette tapes. Westernized forms of music in Vietnam had appeared during the latter 19th century, and especially during the early 20th century, under the influence of the French colonizers. Tan Nhac (trans. "modern music") always incorporated both domestic and international sounds, and continued to develop alongside Western musical trends. During the 1960s and 1970s, pulp ballads were being recorded by leading crooners of the time who alternated between modern and traditional forms of regional music. When the electric guitar hit the streets of Saigon, Vietnamese renditions of contemporary instrumental trends such as surf-rock, beat and twist soon emerged, followed by some pretty deep soul sounds inspired by Motown radio hits as well as funk grooves brought on by James Brown and his contemporaries. By the mid-1960s, Vietnam had been ravaged by war for years. American G.I.s had become a standard fixture in Saigon, as did many of the cultural artifacts they brought with them. This certainly included the music. The sounds of rock and roll dominated the radio waves, and Saigon nightclubs were teeming with new sounds. Musically, The Shadows and The Ventures soon gave way to The Beatles and The Rolling Stones as an enthusiastic set of young Vietnamese rockers signed on to the lifestyle, always eager to hear the latest musical trends the G.I.s would bring in on LP or tape. This era saw the birth of a vibrant rock scene, yet rock music and anything that came close was commonly referred to as "soul" in the Vietnamese genre-listings. Like many cultures in Asia, Vietnamese music is recorded, marketed, listened to and disposed of in a relatively quick manner. This level of advanced ephemera ensures a degree of difficulty when trying to unearth and discover cultural histories. Literally, most of the music heard here has been brought back from the dead. Artists featured include some of Vietnam's most popular at the time: Elvis Phuong, Hung Cuong, Mai Lei Huyen, Le Thu, Thai Thanh, Giao Linh, Mai Lei Huyen and the CBC Band. Features 70 minutes of classic original recordings compiled by Mark Gergis with extensive liner notes.

WREKMEISTER HARMONIES: Then It All Came Down CD (THR 360CD) 17.00
"Then It All Came Down is J.R. Robinson's second long-form composition as Wrekmeister Harmonies. Employing an enormous ensemble of some of Chicago's best talents in the metal and experimental communities, including Wrest (Leviathan), Ryley Walker, and members of Indian, Corrections House, Twilight, Yakuza, Anatomy of Habit, Come, Mind Over Mirrors, and Bloodiest, Robinson has created a work that is equally gorgeous and menacing. The CD edition also includes 2013's You've Always Meant So Much To Me (on CD for the first time), bringing the total running time to over 73 minutes. Few artists have perfected the nuances of beauty as well as annihilation, and Robinson's mastery of both sides of the spectrum makes his a unique voice in the field of doom. J.R. Robinson perceives life as a long, gradual process of decay. Lightness fades into darkness, while innocence succumbs to the evils of modern society. His music reflects not only this worldview but his emotional response to it. Then It All Came Down is an exploration of that existential deterioration and an attempt at attaining a deeper understanding of its process."

OOZING WOUND: Earth Suck CD (THR 369CD) 15.00
"Modernity is a bummer, and humanity's drive towards its own destruction is at a fever pitch. Oozing Wound finds humor in our ridiculous habits and, by magnifying our most destructive behavior to its extreme end, allows us to laugh at the idiocy and the horror of it all. This mindset is at the center of their second full-length Earth Suck, a collection of destructive thrash that is seemingly teetering at the edge of control and collapse. Zack Weil's guitar is reckless, his palm-muted chugs coming at breakneck speed and pinch harmonics squealing like sonic bolts of electricity. Kyle Reynolds' drumming is unrelenting, wild and unrestrained but executed with a level of jaw dropping precision. Kevin Cribbin's manic, mammoth bass delivers wallop after wallop of fuzzed out low-end. Oozing Wound's energetic and expansive variation on thrash thrives on antagonistic repetition and addictive riffage, avoiding pretense like a plague."

"The Body and Sandworm are two bands with roots in the Providence underground that take unbridled negativity and spin it in opposite directions. The Body, legendary in both underground extreme music enclaves and the wider community of metal fans, are masters of expansive expressions of pure sadness that incorporate sounds and instruments far beyond what is typical in the realm of heavy metal. Sandworm is the young and hungry duo of Ben Eberle and Pat Reilly, bursting out of the gate on this, their first proper release, with a collection of raw and elemental black metal. On several songs they are joined by Mindy Stock of Virusse on drums. The contrast between the corrosive guitars and concise blasts of energy that Sandworm offers up and the grisly, detailed sprawl of the side-long track "The Manic Fire" by The Body displays the diversity of the Providence scene and amplifies each band's unique abilities to create meaningful expressions of darkness and anger. LP pressed on virgin vinyl with free download card."

"Heat Leisure is a collective centered around the Carney brothers of Pontiak, Greg Fox and Alexandra Drewchin of Guardian Alien, Steve Strohmeier of Beach House, and Robert J. Otten III. Their music takes a freewheeling approach to psychedelia with obvious nods to Amon Duul II, Can and the Grateful Dead. For this, their second gathering and recording at the Carney's farm in Virginia, the group recruited the legendary Merry Prankster and Grateful Dead associate Ken Babbs, who emceed the Dead's mythical Veneta, OR gig in 1972 that became Sunshine Daydream, to contribute a shamanistic monologue to 'III,' which occupies the first side of this, their first full-length vinyl release. The Carneys approached Babbs about collaborating with Heat Leisure after staying at his Oregon farm on the last Pontiak tour. Heat Leisure's core principles are spontaneity, serendipity, and collaboration. The band employs frying amp distortion, a signature of Pontiak, as well as an array of drums, synthesizers, samplers, organs and a heavy dose of explorative improvisation by the musicians to create a highly lyrical album."

TO 053LP

FENNESZ: Venice 2LP (TO 053LP) 20.00
Special 10th anniversary edition & first time available on vinyl. Gatefold double LP release -- 14 tracks. Artwork and photography by Jon Wozencroft. Featuring David Sylvian (vocals) and Burkhard Stangl (guitar). Venice, the fourth studio album by Christian Fennesz, finds electronic music at a crossroads between its early status as digital subculture, and the feeling that there has to be something more, an emotional quality that rises above noise and moves towards melody and rapture. It was voted No. 3 in The Top 50, The Wire, December 2004, was album of the week at BBCi on its release and remains Christian Fennesz's best-selling record to date. Prefix (USA) noted: "Although Fennesz's breakout record Endless Summer was followed by a live release and a collaboration with Jim O'Rourke and Peter Rehberg as Fenn O'Berg, Venice is the true heir to that album's ascendant pop. Venice is not as unabashedly poppy as its predecessor (the lack of Beach Boys references can attest to that), but still mines much the same vein. It was marked by critics at the time as a move away from the relatively robotic music spawned by the IDM craze of the late nineties. Instead, its melodic, emotive tracks foresaw an electronic music that could be purely human." Pitchfork Media (USA), in a lengthy review, also noted: "Venice's quality extends beyond its sound. Touch proprietor Jon Wozencroft -- through his breathtaking design and photography -- continues to fight the good fight against records-as-pure-data by making the CD a value-added prospect." and The Declaration Online (Web): "Two blue empty row boats left listless on rippling water. Red orange green riverbed foliage reflected in the water's gauzy oil slick surface. An airport enveloped in dull gray stratus and snow. Upon seeing the photography and packaging accompanying Christian Fennesz's latest recording, Venice, it is clear that the record label Touch remains intent on not simply putting out records but creating audio-visual imprints dedicated to inextricably tying sound and vision."

TEG 75504LP

KMD: Mr. Hood 2LP (TEG 75504LP) 25.00
2004 release. "KMD (Kausing Much Damage, or a positive Kause in a Much Damaged society) was a hip hop group in the early 90s perhaps best known for launching the career of acclaimed MC/Producer MF Doom (known during his KMD tenure as Zev Love X). After guesting on 3rd Bass' 'The Gas Face,' the trio (Zev, brother Subroc, and Onyx) released the acclaimed and overlooked Mr. Hood full-length. Their political outlook was similar to the group Brand Nubian, who guested on Hood; however, the style was more comical and included a great deal of clips from old children's recordings, mostly notably a sample of the Sesame Street character Bert on the single 'Who Me?' This is the official Elektra Records/Traffic Entertainment Group re-release with original artwork and track listing in its entirety. Cutting edge, ahead of its time production and skits from KMD and Stimulated Dummies (John Gamble and Mr. Dante Ross). Features the singles 'Peachfuzz', 'Who Me?' and 'Nitty Gritty' (feat. Brand Nubian). This is one rap album that is not to be missed."

BOOGIE DOWN PRODUCTIONS: Criminal Minded CD (TEG 76508CD) 15.00
"Traffic Entertainment & B-Boy Records present one of the most influential and original albums in music history, Criminal Minded by Boogie Down Productions. KRS-One's combination of street slang and Webster's dictionary knowledge backed with Scott La Rock's hard hitting, minimal beats set the record apart when it was originally released in 1986. With this now classic debut album, BDP helped redefine the New York rap music scene. Criminal Minded elevated the standards to a new level and proved that rap could be a dynamic and consciousness-raising medium. KRS-One has gone on to become one of the most prolific and critically-acclaimed artists in Hip Hop history. A true classic, Criminal Minded was included in Vibe Magazine's 100 Essential Albums of the 20th Century. All cuts remastered from the original master tapes."

CLAUDIO PRC: Moderskarlek EP 12" (TROLLDANS 002EP) 12.50
Swedish boutique label Trolldans is finally ready to present the second release in their catalog. On Moderskarlek, Claudio PRC presents a magical dimension of dance music, featuring dense, hypnotic rhythms and trance-like atmospheres. Semantica label-boss Svreca has experimented with complex noisy textures on his remix of the title-track "992 hpa," bringing the feeling of the Northern winter to the listener's mind. Moods before genres.

Trost starts a new 7" series called Jukebox Series, specially for one-time collaborations & projects. The paper-sleeve stays the same, labels are changing, and there's artwork by Lasse Marhaug. This time Christof Kurzmann teams up with Sofia Jernberg (Fire Orchestra) on one side, and with Ken Vandermark and Martin Brandlmayr (Radian) on the other for two versions of the beautiful song "Beggars." The lyrics are written by Joe McPhee.

THING, THE: Viking 7" (TTR 002EP) 14.00

UA 006R-EP

ASYLUM: Native EP 12" (UA 006R-EP) 12.50
Uprise Audio's latest release sees collective member L.A./London-based producer Asylum return to the fold, featuring two very different productions. "Always Love" features the three key ingredients any dubstep production worth its weight needs; beats, bass and space. A hypnotizing vocal sashays over sparse percussive hits, a reverb'd snare and a thumping kick, while Asylum's notorious sub skills once again play their part in putting any decent system to the test. "Bad Habit" is a slightly more laid-back affair, but beneath the synth waves, captivating mids and tight drumwork lies a solid bass line that commands both attention and respect.

VI 128LP

SHIRLEY & COMPANY: Shame Shame Shame LP (VI 128LP) 11.00
"An eclectic mix of funk, disco, Caribbean, moody R&B, and pop influences, this hidden gem of an album followed the surprising comeback success that Shirley Goodman -- one-half of legendary 1950s duo Shirley & Lee -- enjoyed with the single of the same name. Penned and produced by Vibration founder Sylvia Robinson, 'Shame, Shame, Shame' was one of the earliest examples of disco, following in the footsteps of efforts like George McCrae's 'Rock Your Baby' and the Hues Corporation's 'Rock the Boat,' but with a notably soulful grip." -- All Music Guide

HOOKER, JOHN LEE: On the Waterfront LP (WDS 689LP) 12.00
John Lee Hooker recorded several covers of the song "I Cover the Waterfront," one of which appears here. Exact repro, originally released in 1970.

Coleman's latest offering presents never-before-told, behind-the-scenes histories on albums ranging from influential '80s masterpieces like DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince's He's The DJ, I'm The Rapper and 3rd Bass' The Cactus Album to '90s classics like Ice Cube's AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted, Mos Def's and Talib Kweli's Are Black Star and Dr. Octagon's Dr. Octagonecologyst. The book's approach is one that Coleman calls Invisible Liner Notes -- retracing the story of an album step by step, in collaboration with the artists themselves. Each of the book's 25 chapters includes lively, in-depth, provocative interviews with artists, DJs, producers and industry insiders. All in all 325 hip-hop songs are discussed and dissected by the artists who made them. As Coleman explains, "This book is the one that I am proudest of, by far. The interviews are deeper than ever before, the chapters are longer and more in-depth, and I have spent months gathering the 350-plus images that are included in the pages which really bring the stories of these amazing albums to life."
