BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE, THE Thank God for Mental Illness LP
2017 black vinyl repress; available on 180-gram vinyl with download code for the original CD's 33-minute closing track "Sound of Confusion," excluded from this LP. This the first time that this title has been available on vinyl. At the risk of belaboring a rather obvious point, with Thank God for Mental Illness, their third collection of absolutely stunning music to be released in 1996, The Brian Jonestown Massacre parallels the prolific and effortless brilliance of The Rolling Stones at their fevered late-1960s peak; the sheer scope of their achievements is stunning -- rarely are bands quite so productive, or quite so consistently amazing. Thank God is The BJM's down-and-dirty country-blues outing, all 12-odd tracks supposedly recorded on a single July day at a cost of just $17.36. The Brian Jonestown Massacre is a psychedelic rock band originally from San Francisco, California, led by guitarist and singer Anton Newcombe. Since 1995, The Brian Jonestown Massacre has released numerous albums, first for Bomp!, the label that gave them their start, and later for TVT and Tee Pee. The BJM has been essential in the development of the modern U.S. garage scene, and many LA and SF musicians got their start playing with Newcombe, including Peter Hayes of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Originally, Newcombe was heavily influenced by The Rolling Stones' psychedelic phase -- the band's name combines the name of Stones founder Brian Jones with a reference to cult leader Jim Jones -- but his work in the 2000s has expanded into aesthetic dimensions approximating the UK shoegaze genre of the 1990s and incorporating influences from world music, especially Middle Eastern and Brazilian music.

MILLS, JEFF Planets CD+BLU-RAY AUDIO
Released in 5.1 surround on the Blu-Ray digital format; also includes a CD version and 15 x 20 inch poster. It has been 100 years since the British composer Gustav Holst introduced his most famous score The Planets. An elegant musical tour to each one of our planets in the solar system, Holst brought forth imaginary visions of space that would survive many generations and decades after. As an important piece to the classical universe, The Planets is regularly played throughout the world every year as it had been the most vivid translation of our cosmic neighborhood until now. The electronic music artist and producer Jeff Mills, pays tribute to this century of incredible musical production. He embarks on a sonic journey to compose and re-discover our neighboring planets in an 18-piece suite that explores the nine planets, including the portions of space in between the planets, the nine regions Mills calls "Loop Transits". Mills takes the rotating principle of the solar system as aesthetics, concept, and model for creativity. From the beginning, his first releases explored futuristic and science fiction topics, and he continues to do so to this day. For Jeff Mills, the future is a powerful creative drive which explains the artist's ceaseless activity. Since its creation and like the intention of Holst, each track is musically imagined to invoke the psychological effect, emotions, and ideas of each planet. But unlike in the year 1918, when the score was first publicly heard on the last week of World War I, 100 years later, there is now a more accurate knowledge about what each planet is made of and what they look like. The piece should bring the audience closer to confronting each planet in ways that audiences in 1918 could only dream of. With the French composer Sylvain Griotto, the arranger of Planets, and Mills's previous work on the album and classical score about the NASA astronaut and doctor Mamoru Morhi's space journey in 1992 and 2000 from the album Where Light Ends (2013), Mills has created an electronic music album that has been translated for symphonic and philharmonic orchestras and will accompany them in their live debut and all performances. Starting to conceptualize and produce music for it dating back to 2005, Mills constantly worked on the project over the years to bring it to fruition. In July 2016, Jeff Mills completed the last production stages of the Planets album at the world famous Abbey Road Studios in London.

LAU NAU Poseidon LP
Finnish artist Laura Naukkarinen returns with her fourth album as Lau Nau and her first for Beacon Sound. Poseidon is a suite of delicate, wise songs that exist in a world all their own, treading the line between chamber folk and experimental pop with a distinctly Scandinavian melancholy. Centered around Laura's beautiful voice and piano (with lyrics sung entirely in Finnish), the album also includes a small cast of guest musicians on electronics, cello, bowed lyre, clarinet, harmonium, and more. Each song is a gem of its own, with lustrous melodies spun from the web of seasons, by turns ghostly and earthy. In Laura's own words: "I was playing with my grandmother's piano and shortly realized that I was composing songs are beginning for a new Lau Nau album instead of the film music that I was working on. The songs wanted to be performed on stage by a character called Lau Nau. It's the melancholic, always dreaming part of me that stands on the stage and shares these fragile moments with the audience. The songs on Poseidon are small secular prayers and messages of love, sorrow and care. Poseidon is a god of the sea but also the name of a certain bar... He veils us in the fog when the night falls." RIYL: Múm, El Perro Del Mar, Bjork, Efterklang. Design by Bijan Berahimi and Christine Shen for FISK. Mastered by Rafael Anton Irisarri at Black Knoll. Includes double-sided insert with lyrics in both Finnish and English and download card; Edition of 600.

DAVIS, GEATER Sweet Woman's Love LP
"Geater Davis never achieved the recognition and the commercial success that he had deserved. 1:1 re-issue of his finest album with the original artwork, originally released on the House of Orange record label. Carefully re-mastered for pristine sound quality. Soul/blues singer/songwriter Vernon 'Geater' Davis (1946-1984) was born in Kountze, Texas. When record producer Allen Orange heard Geater and another singer, Reuben Bell, perform he decided to record both in Birmingham, Alabama. It was the start of his own record label in 1970, House of Orange. One of the label's first releases was Sweet Woman's Love by Geater Davis which went up to #45 on the Billboard R&B charts. His follow-up releases did not follow-up on the initial success. After House of Orange closed its doors in 1972, Geater went on to record for several smaller independent record labels like 77, Ace, and MT, and he continued to write or at least, co-write his own songs. With the exception of 'Your Heart Is So Cold' in 1973 which reached #64 on the Billboard R&B charts, his records did not sell particularly well. But Geater toured extensively on the chitlin circuits for a soul and blues audience. He died of a heart attack in Dallas, Texas in 1984. He was barely 38 years old. Geater Davis never achieved major success and stardom. This vinyl re-issue of the legendary House of Orange LPS-6000 should put the limelight on one of the most talented soul singers from the South."

Tessellatum is an album and a film, with music composed by Donnacha Dennehy and animation by Steven Mertens, performed by violist Nadia Sirota and gamba player Liam Byrne. The film and the music both work with the idea of man vs. nature. Steven Mertens's electric animation toggles back-and-forth between man-made geometric perfection and the natural oddness of the deep ocean. Donnacha Dennehy's addictive timbres move between tuning systems created by humans and the ones found in natural resonance. As a result, the two works of art support and enhance each other, using the same form and structure to create an incredibly moving work of art. All fifteen string parts were performed by Nadia Sirota and Liam Byrne on viola and bass viol. SUNNY & THE SUNLINERS Put Me In Jail/Open Up Your Love Door 7"
"Following up on the success of Sunny & The Sunliners Mr Brown Eyed Soul LP, Big Crown drops another must have 45 for the record lovers. Side A is a Sunny classic, 'Put Me In Jail' is easily one of his most famous original tunes. Sunny croons on, professing his guilt in coming up short on his promises to his beloved over the unmistakable Sunliners band backdrop. This tune has gone on to become famous amongst both oldies fans and lowriders. Side B is an obscure album cut lifted from the Young, Gifted, and Brown album, 'Open Up Your Love Door'. Another perfect combination of romantic pleading and organ heavy production leading its way into a surprising horn arrangement and climactic breakdown. Sunny asks his love to allow him into her life and give their love a chance. Another killer two sider wrapped up in a gorgeous picture sleeve we made from one of The Ozuna's personal photo collection. One side of 'Put Me In Jail', one side of 'Open Up Your Love Door'... two sides to every story."

DE OLIVEIRA, JOCY Estorias Para Voz, Instrumentos Acusticos e Eletronicos LP
Limited 2017 repress. Blume present the first vinyl reissue of Jocy De Oliveira's legendary albumEstorias Para Voz, Instrumentos Acusticos e Eletronicos, reissued for the first time since its original release in 1981. Defined by a body of singular music spanning seven decades, within the histories and continuing legacies of avant-garde practice, she is without equivalent. Technically, her 2nd album Estórias Para Voz, Instrumentos Acústicos e Eletrônicos resonates through a shimmering body of organized sound, unveiling truths lingering in the shadows, the sins suffered by the Latin American avant-garde, with the actualities of its astounding heights. Oliveira began her career as a concert pianist. She left Brazil at young age to study in America and Europe, before being recruited by major orchestras across both continents, working under Stravinsky, and having pieces written for her and premiering of works by Berio, Xenakis, Santoro, Cage, and Manuel Enriquez. During the early 1960s, Oliveira shifted her efforts toward composition. She embarked on a process of folding organized sounds across nearly every context it could inhabit, blurring the lines between performance and composition, and incorporating diverse media well beyond the world of sound. In 1961, within a collaborative theater work written with Luciano Berio, Berio Apague Meu Spot Light, she instigated the first performance of electronic music staged in Brazil. Released in 1981, during the last years of her country's military dictatorship, Estórias Para Voz, Instrumentos Acústicos e Eletrônicos was met by controversy before quickly sinking from view, heard by almost no one beyond Brazil's borders. Among the most astounding realizations of electroacoustic process ever recorded, it is a series of sonic stories for voice, and acoustic and electronic instruments: prepared piano, violin, percussion, synthesizers, electric celesta, etc. The album's singularity, culture, humanity, and introspection cannot be displaced; like its composer, Estórias Para Voz, Instrumentos Acústicos e Eletrônicos is Brazilian. Its draws on a diverse range of the country's music and percussion traditions, as well as Indian raga structures, and Japanese Sh?my? singing, inspired in part by the sounds of immigrant communities within São Paulo, the city where Oliveira grew up. A landmark classic from the '70s Brazilian electronic music scene. To quote Keith Fullerton Whitman, this is the "lost Tropicalia/psych/free-vocal/ring-modulator freakout/jam hybrid that you've only dreamt about!" Comes in a full-color cover with a printed inner sleeve housing a Nagaoka anti-static record sleeve; Includes original insert that functions as Obi; Red-colored vinyl.

WEISSER, STEFAN Wordworks (1975-1982) 7xCASSETTE BOX
The Milan based imprint Blume present an incredible seven cassette box set comprised of archival recordings made by Stefan Weisser (Z'EV) during one his most fruitful periods, stretching between the mid-1970s to the early '80s. A marvel in sonic creativity, these works offer a long overdue insight into the foundations of late 20th century sound-art, poetics, punk, industrial music, and noise. Wordworks is the first survey of Weisser's output from the '70s and early '80s to appear on an analog format. The set begins with "Book Of Love Being Written As They Touched" (1975), an hour-long work recorded in 1975 for eight female voices, built from the 40,320 spoken permutations of its title. A definitive work of conceptual art, it premiered as part of the Second Generation Show at the Museum of Conceptual Art in San Francisco. Recorded two months later, the second cassette presents "Dark Pastimes Duet" (1975), a recording made with Roberta Friedman on tape accompaniment, at University Of California, Santa Barbara. Brilliant on every count, it is a reimagining of the decaying potentials of conversation, at a moment witnessing the utopian ideals of modernism coming to an end. The third work "Instill" (1976), is an effort for four voices and tape replay, and encounters this sense of loss further progressed. Its contributors' utterances are reduced to inaudible mumbling, whispers, and hiss, pushing toward abstraction and slippery rhythmic pulse. "So Called" and "As Is As", both from 1976, push these tactile themes even further, while "Spatial Poetics", a live mix for taped voices presented at The First West Coast International Festival of Sound Poetry in San Francisco during 1977, increasingly reveals direct intervention and the folding of environmental sound. "Oomoonoon: Dancing On The Brink Of The Word" (1978) started its life as a three-hour tape installation. It begins with three three-minute loops of three voices -- their ambience recorded, looped, and then replaced every 45 minutes, collectively rising to a total progressive accumulation of nine, to 15, to 27, and then 51 voices. Profoundly ambitious in assembly and content, the set present some of the 20th century's most radical heights in sound poetry and art. A crucial look at a largely unrecognized body of work, offering Stefan Weisser/Z'EV the attention, appraisal, and place in history he has always deserved. All seven tapes come in wooden box; Includes several zines and a poster; Edition of 80 (no repress).

LEACH, MARY JANE Pipe Dreams LP
Milan based imprint Blume offer two incredible archival works from the 1980s American composer Mary Jane Leach, never before released. Mary Jane Leach is a definitive model of the American avant-garde and experimental composer -- creatively brilliant, tragically underrecognized, yet always there, rigorously plumbing the depths, issuing challenges, venturing toward the unknown. Leach's creative practice began at the crossroads of the modern and post-modern -- with the death of the American dream, its hegemonic point of view, and with the irreconcilable reductive legacies of their predecessors, the minimalists. Leach pursued the physicality of sound and acoustic phenomena -- investigating their properties, and interactions with space. Despite being incredibly active, during the 1970s and '80s Leach failed to offer a single commercial release. She instead instigated a singular body of work which is conceptually centered around live acoustic phenomena and performance. In effect, there are two dynamic components of her work -- the notes, structures, and relationships which make up a composition, and a secondary series of difference, combination, and interference tones, generated by a work's relationship to the space in which it is conceived and performed. Pipe Dreams represents a turning of the tide -- a means through which to offer the composer the attention she has always righty deserved. Comprised of two incredible works -- "4BC" and "Pipe Dreams" -- this LP is a brilliant entry point into Mary Jane Leach's sprawling body of composition and investigatory work. Like all of her efforts, they are temporal snapshots, incapable of being fully reproduced. They are singular and unique. "4BC" is a work for four bass clarinets, recorded during 1984. It is part of Leach's large body of compositions which employs long tones (drone) within a constrained tonal palette. "Pipe Dreams", written for, and recorded on, the organ in St. Peter's in Köln, Germany, during 1989, was realized by, and as a direct response to, the unique environment for which it was made. St. Peter's organ has two sets of pipes at opposite ends of the church, each having separate sounds and stops that can generate microtonal intervals. The work is a structured improvisation, exploring antiphony and the specific sounds of that organ, extra-musical as well as musical. These pieces help illuminate Leach as one of the most important voices in her generation.

CLUSTER Qua LP
LP version. Reissue of the last studio album by Cluster, the legendary krautronic duo of Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius, recorded in Ohio in 2009 by Tim Story. From Story's liner notes: "My role, as I imagined it, was to emulate Conny Plank, the great Cluster producer and a hero I'd never had a chance to meet. An impossible burden of course, so I simply tried to make the recording process as invisible as possible, offer as many interesting sonic options as I could, and give Cluster the chance to be Cluster -- to express that deep and unique dialog that only Moebi and Achim fully understand. Moebi had brought along some of his wonderfully quirky loops, but the rest was simply an embrace of the technology and toys that they found in the studio. Old drum machines, a gaudy orange Farfisa (solos on which Achim would always seem to center around the one temperamentally unreliable note), cutting edge keyboards and processors, a cheap Yamaha Omnichord. The results were, to my ears at least, stunning. Seventeen miniature worlds, some icy, some warm, all infused with that Cluster elusiveness and unpredictability. Playful, dark, funny, human, Qua captures that deceptive Cluster heartbeat -- unmistakably modern but utterly timeless. Adorned later with Moebi's slyly nonsensical titles ('Putoil' for example, which features a 'solo' made from Moebi's recording of our squeaky bathroom door), and his cheerfully Dada cover, Qua's evolution was a true privilege to witness. Achim told me recently that he considers Qua the perfect swansong for Cluster. At the time, though, the album's freshness and open-ended creativity seemed like simply another alluring dispatch from a conversation that would pick up again many more times, as it had for four decades. But Moebi's passing in 2015 gives Qua a finality that contradicts the music's transitory, slippery otherworldliness. The album's closing track 'Imtrerion,' with Moebi's deeply stirring loop embellished ever so gracefully with Achim's spare accompaniment, never fails to choke me up."

CLUSTER & FARNBAUER Live in Vienna 1980 2LP
Double-LP version. The first live recording of Cluster (Dieter Moebius and Hans-Joachim Roedelius), and their only collaboration with Austrian musician Joshi Farnbauer (drums and percussion), recorded in Vienna in 1980. A sonic throwback to their early years, reissued on CD. Were one to be presented with two separate stacks of Cluster recordings -- one composed of their studio work, the other of live performances -- an innocent listener might conclude they are the efforts of two completely different artists. This would understandably have been the case in 1980, when the structured, tuneful miniatures of 1979's Grosses Wasser (BB 026CD/LP) and 1981's Curiosum (BB 038CD/LP) were unlikely bookends to the sprawling electroacoustic abstractions of Live in Vienna. But as fans of the idiosyncratic duo already knew, Cluster's trajectory was always a restless one -- more about disruption than gentle evolution. As Live in Vienna's sound engineer, Eric Spitzer-Marlyn, recalls, Cluster's 1980 performance at the Wiener Festwochen Alternativ would have been called a "happening" in an earlier time. Growing out of the Actionism movement of the '60s, the festival was more performance art than music concert. Disdainful of the tired, commodified art of the establishment, it was a sound marked by brash, improvised, avant-garde techniques. Spitzer-Marlyn also recalls that it was loud. For those who had grown up with Cluster's accessible '70s work with Eno and Plank, and their collaboration with Michael Rother in Harmonia, Live in Vienna's slow-growing swaths of electronics and noise must have represented a bit of a shock. But it was really more of a throwback to Cluster's earliest years, when they performed dense electronic "jams" with Conrad Schnitzler as Kluster. The addition in Vienna of Joshi Farnbauer, a friend and fellow artist who played percussion and explored the sound possibilities of his own sculptures, also mirrored the fluid and spontaneous configurations that characterized those times. As chance would have it, they never met up with Farnbauer again.

SPECHTL, ANDREAS Thinking About Tomorrow, And How To Build It LP+CD
LP version. Includes CD. Andreas Spechtl's debut album Thinking About Tomorrow, And How To Build It is a multifaceted work. It is personal -- Spechtl invites his listeners to look deep into the soul of his "I". It is rooted in history -- Spechtl constructs an emotional bridge to the cosmic music of Can and the aural sculptures of Conrad Schnitzler. It's also a modern and hybrid work -- Spechtl mines deep strata of sound and samples in his sonic quarry, layering them over a constant bass drum, capable of launching every DJ set into a new space and time continuum. Traditional Persian percussion and string instruments are sampled by Spechtl, rearranged and treated with contemporary beats, filters, and effects. Aural structures rise up in space, as complex as they are fascinating and disorientating. Nevertheless, even-tempered rhythms mark out a more familiar path approaching narratives in recent electronic music. Thinking About Tomorrow, And How To Build It was composed in Tehran, a metropolis of 12 million people and the capital of Iran, often portrayed in the western world as the "Heart of Darkness" or "The Land of Fear". In the winter of 2016/17, Andreas Spechtl spent two months here, during which time he played ten shows in his Tehran studio. Meanwhile, in his adopted home of Berlin, a terrorist attack took place at the Christmas market on Breitscheidplatz. In reflecting on the other, Spechtl reflects on himself; ruminating on Tehran turns his thoughts to Berlin, from his own to the unknown. A central motif in these ten new songs, the idea of not living in fear of the future, is articulated throughout. The citizens of Tehran understand that things can only get better. "I have always been enchanted by the beauty of language", explains Andreas Spechtl, who grew progressively quieter on "Africa Blvd" in the Persian winter. The less he spoke, the more music became his language, which is why his new album is predominantly instrumental. The future, so optimistically envisioned in so few words by Andreas Spechtl, is created through friction. Andreas Spechtl left behind the contemporary comforts of a frictionless Berlin for a place where language was elusive, yet the intrinsic friction energy of the place was tangible, transformable into hybrid, at times ambient music. Thinking About Tomorrow, And How To Build It is both document and witness, a grand, opulent field recording collated in ten diary entries.

SUNS OF ARQA Revenge Of The Mozabites CD
Corbett Vs. Dempsey present a reissue of Suns Of Arqa's Revenge Of The Mozabites, originally released on Rocksteady Records in 1980. One of the key ensembles in the history of what is now referred to as world music, Suns Of Arqa began in 1979 with Revenge Of The Mozabites, the brainchild of Michael Wadada. With a ground base of dub -- in both aesthetic and method -- made palpable by master dub rhythm section of Style Scott on drums and Lizard Logan on bass, and produced in tandem with future On-U Sound maestro Adrian Sherwood, Wadada built an incredibly eclectic and imaginative program, touching on flamenco and Irish music, as well as a Suns Of Arqa touchstone, the intersection of Indian music and dub reggae. The results are unlike anything heretofore heard, and Revenge Of The Mozabites remains one of the unsung classics of hybrid musicality to emerge from the post-punk ethos, having exerted an unexamined influence on British music in the '80s. Upon finding a copy of the ultra-rare original LP in 1982, for instance, Peter Gabriel promptly booked Suns Of Arqa to the first WOMAD festival. This release marks the first time any of Suns Of Arqa's music has been released in the US, and Revenge Of The Mozabites is restored to its original glory, with the packaging as it was in 1979, additional photos of the band, and three bonus tracks -- dubs and edits from Hyphen --, everything remastered from original tapes. Recorded in 1979 at Berry Street Studio, London and Cargo Studio, Rochdale. Personnel: Michael Wadada - esraj, sitar; Style Scott - drums; Lizard Logan - bass; Kalu Zeria - table; Aziz Zeria - harmonium; Big Red - violin; Bubblers - piano; Mothmen - cuica, percussion; Maria Aiawa - vocals; Mark Stone - flamenco guitar; I. SUNS OF ARQA Seven CD
Corbett Vs. Dempsey present a reissue of Suns Of Arqa's Seven, originally released on Arka Sound in 1987. Perhaps the pinnacle of the Suns Of Arqa discography, Seven was released in 1987 and was in fact the band's fifth LP. With its stunning cover design and outlandishly ambitious sound, steeped in dub but festooned with plainchant and Indian music, it was alone in the market, its closest relatives maybe African Head Charge or New Age Steppers, but with a host of original ideas and musical intersections and an incredible, almost unthinkable cast of participants. Amongst the vocalists is the British singer-songwriter Helen Watson, punk poet John Cooper Clarke, talk-over star Prince Hammer, and comedic genius Professor Stanley Unwin, all of whom offer their unique and unconventional words to the dub stew. A powerhouse Jamaican rhythm section is filtered through sitar, shenai, santoor, and tabla, hurdy-gurdy and pennywhistle, strings and saxophone, all orchestrated by the inimitable Michael Wadada, founding father of Suns Of Arqa. On this reissue, Seven's first time available in the US, the original LP cover has been restored to its initial glory, and the original music is available complete in one package for the first time, adding five extra tracks not included on the LP. Recorded at Sawmill Studio, Cornwall, and Elephant Studio, London.

MCPHEE, JOE The Willisau Concert CD
Corbett Vs. Dempsey present a reissue of Joe McPhee's The Willisau Concert, originally released on Hat Hut Records in 1976. Asked earlier this year which of his out-of-print records he'd like to see available again, multi-instrumentalist Joe McPhee's response was immediate: The Willisau Concert! Recorded at the Swiss festival that gave it its name in 1975, it appeared a year later as "Hat Hut B", the second of the new label's great letter series. It came packaged gorgeously in a double-gatefold with artist Klaus Baumgärtner's stunning pen-and-ink work on the inside and out, and a little hand-colored Swiss flag on the interior of each copy. Returning to the music, it's easy to hear why McPhee holds it so dear. He's in absolute top form on tenor and soprano saxophones, ranging from the relaxed and confident Afro-conscious feel of Nation Time (CVSD 011CD) to areas of more diffuse and textural investigation. John Snyder's analog synthesizer is brilliant and hyperbolic, a surprisingly hand-in-glove match for McPhee, not dissimilar to their collaboration on the CjR release Pieces Of Light (1974). South African drummer Makaya Ntshoko is the surprise element, a guest whose sensitivity and warmth are everywhere evident, even when he kicks the energy up a notch. Along with McPhee originals, this reissue includes a never-released bonus, their take on the classic "God Bless the Child", a total heartbreaker. The CD has been designed as a facsimile cover of the LP, respecting the beautiful and original graphic work on this classic record. Never before available in any digital form, remastered from the original tapes, The Willisau Concert is restored to its place as one of McPhee's masterpieces. Recorded live at Willisau Jazz Festival, Switzerland, October 11, 1975. Personnel: Joe McPhee - soprano and tenor saxophone; John Snyder - analog synthesizer; Makaya Ntshoko - drums.

N.A.D.M.A. Uno Zingaro Di Atlante Con Un Fiore A New York LP
Die Schachtel present the first vinyl reissue N.A.D.M.A.'s (Natural Arkestra Da Maya Alta) Uno Zingaro Di Atlante Con Un Fiore A New York, originally released in 1973. Comprised of Davide Mosconi, Franco Pardi, Gustavo Bonora, Inez Klok, Marco Cristofolini, Marino Vismara, Mino Ceretti, Otto Davis Corrado, and Talia Toni Marcus, within the history of the Italian avant-garde, N.A.D.M.A is as obscure as they come. Mosconi later came to note as a solo artist and photographer, and Pardi and Vismara within the worlds of visual arts, but beyond a scattering of releases, Uno Zingaro Di Atlante Con Un Fiore A New York is the lone document to have surfaced from most of its contributors. Details surrounding the band and the record are incredible scarce. Despite the mystery, with hindsight, they rise as a definitive gesture of the movement to which they belonged. The Italian avant-garde is among the most rigorously democratic of any of the movements within 20th century sound. Like their more well know peers in Aktuala, N.A.D.M.A grew from this spirit, but realized it in far more radical forms. They are among the wildest of those connected to the movements of free-improvisation and jazz. The group's lone 1973 release is unlike anything else of its day. Soulful as hell, it blends a remarkable range of instrumentation and cross-cultural reference -- a wild imagining of the potentialities of modal folk traditions, gathered in the writhing aggressive form of free-jazz. It is an album so remarkable and striking -- among the greatest and most accomplished European efforts within the form -- that there is no explanation for why it has remained so unacknowledged through the years. It is a towering, bubbling, brilliant achievement in sound. Uno Zingaro Di Atlante Con Un Fiore A New York is among the greatest documents of Italian music, and among the most important within the canon of European free-jazz. As seminal as they come. Not to be missed on any count. Edition of 500.

UNTITLED NOISE Untitled Noise 2LP
For the last hundred years, the line dividing music from visual art has grown increasingly obscure. Music has provided inspiration for countless artists, while art has offered the conceptual terms for music to break its own rules. Particularly within the contexts of punk, and experimental music, art schools have fed the ranks -- gifting countless rebellious and visionary minds. These are open worlds, between which positions and ideas freely meet and speak. Within it all, there lies an often unmentioned realm, far less easily defined, skirting beyond tangible grasp -- sound and music made by visual artists, which might not be music at all. Joining Die Schachtel's already singular catalog of ambitious sonic adventures from Italy, this is the strange, incongruous territory of Untitled Noise, Michele Lombardelli and Luca Scarabelli's debut release. Michele Lombardelli and Luca Scarabelli are two respected visual artists who have been active in the Italian contemporary art scene for many years. While joint their project, Untitled Noise, is positioned outside of sonic manifestations of visual, artistic, conceptual terms, it cannot be entirely dislocated from this spectrum of thought. While it is not art in the visual sense, it equally makes no claims toward music, something which only the intellectual frameworks of the art-world tend to allow. Untitled Noise is a gathering a phenomena -- challenges, organizations, and interventions through sound -- an occupancy of those territories which exists just beyond our ability to define. Evolving over four sides of this double LP -- each dedicated to a single work, one sliding seamlessly into the next, the album is an aggressive, textural gesture in noise. Built from electronic sources and tradition instrumentation, shifting between pure abstraction, sublime drone, rhythmic pulse, and broken flirtations with jazz, it rises as a melting pillar in sound. Drawn from recordings in both studio and live contexts, Untitled Noise marks the return of the Die Schachtel's sub-imprint Zeit, dedicated to ambitious contemporary gestures in sound. Where music meets the realms of art, and what is known falls away; A joining of worlds, which not to be missed. Edition of 300.

MOORE, RUDY RAY This Ain't No White Christmas LP
2017 repress. "Rudy Ray Moore was a storyteller extraordinaire, a hilarious, low-down dirty man, and a legit trailblazer in the world of no-holds-barred, fuck-the-censors comedy. This classic, live Christmas album shows Moore in the 1970s form that cemented his late-night legacy. Side 1 is for early evening listening, when family and respectable friends might still be around. (The dirty stuff is for the flip.) The song 'Merry Christmas, Baby' starts things off -- a slow, dusty blues number bolstered by a wobbly but upright backing band. The song itself is PG, extolling the virtues of a caring partner and the joy of the season. Truth be told, it's a warm and wonderful holiday song. With the band gently strolling behind him, he then lays into Christmas tales from childhood up through modern day trials, tribulations and hilarities. 'I can remember when me and my brother were six years old,' he says. 'We hung our stockings up on the mantelpiece, and the health department made us take them down.' Good old fashioned family fun. But with the man also known Dolemite, the 'down and dirty' is never far away. Side 2 is where things get good (and X-rated), for the late night listening pleasure. It all starts with Rudy retelling The Night Before Christmas -- with his grooving backing band -- in his trademark raunchy style, complete with mice and rats getting it on. Also included on this side is a psychedelic blues number, detailing Brother Rap's visit to heaven (to get dirty, of course). And it all finishes up with a thematically appropriate Christmas themed tale, with the term motherfucker used in potentially record-breaking numbers. It's what you'd expect from the legendary, foul-mouthed, groundbreaking comedy legend. A perfect way to keep the holidays from becoming too much of a Hallmark moment."

COH COHGS LP
The ongoing relationship between Editions Mego and CoH continues with this special collection of works made by CoH over a number of years, released on a variety of labels. What brings these works together is the incorporation of vocalists and lyrics. Neatly compiled here, a diverse pool of vocalists elevate the otherwise instrumental works of CoH (Ivan Pavlov) into worlds of narrative, the human and the haunted. Little Annie brings her sly subversive cabaret style to one of the works whilst delivering an intense list of daily activities on another whereas Peter "Sleazy" Christopherson conjures a world beyond our own with his cracked spectral delivery interpreting Pavlov's disembodied electronics. "I wrap my last kiss in a bandage... I send you this message." Frankie Gothard provides classic distorted industrial swagger to the proto-disco "Fffetish" where "Love's Septic Domain", featuring John Balance and Louise Weasel, screams from the abyss of "dirty hospitals"; as starlit and damaged as any of the classic Balance deliveries. A previously unreleased work featuring the renowned fashion designer Ann Demeulemeester skips along a metronomic beat whilst the voice lays out dry settings and instruction. Elsewhere, Noriko Taguchi embeds a fragile sensibility to a music box melody whilst Anna Yamada's collaboration results in an exquisite blend of disorientating pop. The versatility of Pavlov's practice is on display, as proto disco, industrial simulation, and pop all come together with the vocalists presenting a wide range of human function, from the absurd to the mundane to world's unknown. Cover photo and graphic design by Victor Robyn; Cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin, June 2017.

FIRST, DAVID Same Animal, Different Cages Vol. 3: Civil War Songs (for Solo Harmonica) LP
"In the third volume of the Same Animal, Different Cages series, American composer David First does a 180 from the purely sound-for-sound's sake explorations of the first two volumes and gives eleven emotional outpourings performed exclusively on solo harmonica. Despite this minimalist single-instrument approach, First makes each of these songs sound fully realized; anything more would simply be crowding the sonic space. First has produced perhaps one of the first folk-music responses to the era of Trump and right-wing populism. But it's more than that as well. The synth-like otherworldly sounds First coaxes out of his instrument are a revelation -- he has done nothing less than reinvent the harmonica. Organic, soulful, melancholy and uplifting, Civil War Songs is protest music made for these times. In the face of this horrifying administration and the racist and fascist goons it has allowed out of the woodwork, First offers up a wordless experimental album that celebrates solidarity, friendship, community and principled resistance. Rather than providing an escape, these hymns wake one out of that paralyzing feeling of despair, delivering renewed focus and the capability to fight on."

CIANI, SUZANNE Help, Help, The Globolinks! LP
As faithful guardians of the Ciani Musica Inc. studio vault, Finders Keepers twist the key and return to their collaborative series of previously unreleased music from one of the most important and influential composers in multi-disciplinary electronic music, Suzanne Ciani. This electronic soundtrack for an operatic, ecological, scholastic, science fiction theater production for children of all ages not only further reveals Suzanne's vibrant and versatile skills as an experimental musician and narrative sound designer, but also highlights her European heritage -- working to the script of Milanese librettist Gian Carlo Menotti and a cast of forward-thinking fellow Italian-American creatives (including Giorgio Armani and Fiorucci in the wardrobe department). Originally written and performed in 1968, and gaining worldwide acclaim throughout the 1970s, Gian Carlo Menotti would update and revise his play for the turn of the '80s which called for a new approach to the music and sound effects -- all of which would make their world premiere in New York high school theaters in April of 1980. Suzanne on the original: "The original production had been in 1968 and I felt that the electronic music component could be more playful and less abrasive than the original production." For Help, Help The Globolinks!, Ciani would give Menotti's well-traveled aliens a brand new voice and with reinvention she communicated with a young audience keen to hear the genuine sounds of the future while retaining melodicism and personality. Unlike many successful electronic composers, Suzanne managed to evade the obvious typecasting of her music through the medium of shlock sci-fi cinema; within the realms of opera and education Suzanne found her perfect channel -- scratching her other cosmic cinematic itches with android music in The Stepford Wives and as "the first female composer to score a major Hollywood movie" with The Incredible Shrinking Woman (1981). Furnishing a plot of an ecological alien intervention worthy of a Magma youth starter pack and realigning early pioneering electronic operas such as Karl-Birger Blomdahl's Aniara or Remi Gassman's Electronics (CACK 004B-LP), this virtually undocumented work by the hardest working woman in VCO business is finally preserved after just a handful of exclusive theatrical airings over 35 years ago. Ciani's combined roles as an abstract artist and an astute technician are in equal measures here, a rare duplicity which is essential to The Globolinks!.

EMO KID Gqomtera LP
Durban's 23 year-old producer Emo Kid presents Gqomtera on Gqom Oh!. The record actually explores sgubhu, a strain of South African dance music that shares many stylistic parallels with gqom, though it is always written with a 4x4 beat. Like DJ Lag before him, an artist widely considered the king of gqom, Emo Kid is also considered a pioneer in Durban. At eight tracks long, Gqomtera provides a comprehensive overview of the sgubhu sound, with the aim of taking the listener on their own "Durban Journey". "I wanted to show the uniqueness of my own style which I would describe as more musical," Emo Kid explains, "you can feel the music when you listen but it still hits hard with that gqom flavor." That gqom flavor, powered by hard, fast, uncompromising drums, provides a solid core from which everything else functions. Bright, shimmering trance synths are featured on "Futuristic Gqom". There's also space for harder, deeper cuts, the charging pace and power of "Insimbi Yase Dubane", and the anthemic "Asbambeki" featuring local crew TLC Fam. Capturing the raw, street sounds of his city, Emo Kid is the latest Durban artist to take the music global and with Gqomtera, he puts sgubhu firmly on the map. Includes a download card with four bonus tracks: "Enkwarini" featuring vocalist Fawell, "Ground Shaker", "Digital Response", and "Isukile" featuring Mapopo.

RABIT Les Fleurs Du Mal LP
Les Fleurs Dul Mal is the absorbingly grotesque sophomore album by pioneering artist, DJ, and label owner Eric C. Burton, aka Rabit, who, along with regular collaborators such as Chino Amobi and Elysia Crampton, is in part responsible for defining the contemporary conflux of avant club, folk, and noise musics. On his follow-up to Communion (2015), Rabit indulges his fascinations with psychedelic themes in an ambitious attempt to locate his sense of self amid increasingly chaotic environments. The result is a personal milestone for the artist; a riveting tableaux of hyper sensual texture, color, and melody, forming a densely detailed and layered prism to best peer upon the abyss between his reality, your own, and a shared consensual hallucination. In aesthetic and intent, Rabit boldly embraces the vacuum left by the late, great Coil; realizing a genre-agnostic consolidation of folk, new age, drone, and noise tropes transcended through acousmatic processing and modular synthesis, in this case fittingly provided by erstwhile Coil member Drew McDowell. In the process, he potentially triangulates Les Fleurs Dul Mal with records by fellow Coil fiends, Elysia Crampton's Demon City (2016) and Chino Amobi's Paradiso (2017), who all essentially project bold, new, independent worlds unto themselves which find common links in Coil's canon. Unfolding in 12 movements, like some future classical tragedy, Rabit gestures his sounds with a remarkable freedom of rhythmic meter and freehand strokes that belies its meticulous construction below the surface. Cecilia's vocals and the sharp strings of opener "Possessed" suggest the spirit of Baudelaire's text heard at street level, while the dissonant stress of "Bleached World" -- a secret weapon 'til now -- expresses a beautifully bittersweet anguish, and the recursive curdle of "Ontological Graffiti" catches in the throat with uncannily emotive effect. "The Whole Bag" locates his firmest dembow rhythms, but buried under collapsing sidereal pressure, and Cecelia's return in closer "Elevation" perfectly emulates something like a new age tristesse, which defines the record's humanity in the face of such uncompromising synthetic sensations. RIYL: Coil, Elysia Crampton, Autechre, Visionist. Artwork by Collin Fletcher; Photo by Lane Stewart. Mastered by Matt Colton at Alchemy.

COH CoH Plays Everall PIC. DISC + CD
Ivan Pavlov pays tribute to the late Sentrax founder and prolific musician John Everall, who passed away in September 2014. Sourced from analog material, the six tracks are an exercise in minimalism and subtlety singular even in Pavlov's impressive back catalog. Pavlov focuses on swirling arpeggios whose colorfulness is mirrored in Ruth Stofer's artwork. From the joyful, handclap-driven "2016", to the hectic gabber derivate "Overbeat", the Russian producer explores a minimalistic yet organic palette of synthesizer sounds that stylistically reach from the hymn-like poise of "Wavetrap" to the playful and warm vibes of "Alone (Minimal Selfie)". With a feature of Coil's John Balance on the CD-only bonus track "Hunger Remix", Pavlov adds yet another facet to this evocative marriage of sonic purity and emotional rawness. Over a throbbing rhythm, the late poet's dry intonation serves as an eerie coda to this tender tribute to lost friends. As a dialogue between this world and the other, CoH's digital manipulation and Everall's analog source material as well as stark minimalism and tonal richness, CoH Plays Everall captures two kindred spirits bidding each other farewell. Limited edition picture disc includes a CD.

GODFLESH Post Self Cassette
Post Self is simultaneously inventive and classic Godflesh. The blue and icy atmosphere of Post Self can reach levels touched on in the happenings of early '90s Norway innovations. From the opening track, it's clear that the vocal performance is Justin Broadrick's best in ages, utilizing new approaches ranging from higher tortured screams to truly brutal and barbaric low roars not heard since Streetcleaner (1989). Within those extremes, mystically effected vocals coming from an industrial corner support the classic "post punk" style voice that became a hallmark dating all the way back to "Head Of David" as well as the bonus tracks heard on the Streetcleaner CD version and the ultimate hypnotic Godflesh track "Flowers". Throughout the whole of the record is a pervasive cold that settles into the atmosphere of Post Self under which nasty and vile machine rhythms create an '80s nighttime rainy streets groove. Dark, hard, heartbreaking, and beautiful, Post Self feels like the culmination of all of Broadrick's various musical interests and achievements in his 30 years of dedication to subcultural music: industrial, noise, post punk, ambient, extreme metal, bass music, and more-- but it is also quintessential Godflesh in its monumental and timeless feeling of existentialism and the human condition. A World Lit Only By Fire (2014) was Godflesh's mortal return, but Post Self feels like Godflesh's immortal soul. Cassette with foil stamped cover.

CORTINI, ALESSANDRO Forse 1 2LP
2017 repress. "Deluxe double LP. Alessandro Cortini (Nine Inch Nails/How To Destroy Angels) composed the Forse series using a Buchla Music Easel. Forse, meaning 'maybe' In Italian, is a series of three double LP releases Cortini recorded for Important to release in 2013. 'All pieces were written and performed live on a Buchla Music Easel, in the span of one month. I found that the limited array of modules that the instrument offers sparked my creativity. Most pieces consist of a repeating chord progression, where the real change happens at a spectral/dynamic level, as opposed to the harmonic/chordal one. I believe that the former are just as effective as the latter, in the sense that the sonic presentation (distortion , filtering, wave shaping, etc.) are just as expressive as a chord change or chord type, and often reinforce said chord progressions. Of all the years with Nine Inch Nails the period spent writing and recording the instrumental record Ghosts I-IV is probably the one which changed my approach to music making the most. After that record I started getting more into instrumental composition, although I tried to approach it in a different way. While we had a vast array of tools and instruments at our disposal then, I decided to approach my pieces limiting myself to one instrument only, as I found myself being more decisive when faced with a limited creative environment.'"

HEARTBREAKERS L.A.M.F. Definitive Edition 4CD BOX
"A 4-CD clam-shell box set with a 44-page booklet and 4 badges. Includes CD1 'the lost '77 mixes'; CD2 the original 1977 Track LP restored, with the infamous 'mud' removed; CD3 13 early demo tracks, including previously unreleased tracks with Richard Hell, and CD4 21 alternative mixes from the epic 1977 mixing sessions at five London studios. The Heartbreakers (Johnny Thunders, Walter Lure, Billy Rath & Jerry Nolan) were at the centre of the London punk scene in 1977, having been invited by the Sex Pistols onto the infamous 'Anarchy Tour'. UK punks treated the US band as rock royalty because of their New York Dolls pedigree. Malcolm McLaren had briefly managed the Dolls in NY. Signing to The Who's label, Track Records, they were treated to the best recording studios in London to record their only album, L.A.M.F. But when the LP came out, there was universal criticism of the sound quality. Journalists who'd been championing the band such as Jon Savage, Julie Burchill, Nick Kent, Tony Parsons et al criticised the 'muddy mix', and drummer Jerry Nolan left the band because of it. Both Track and the Heartbreakers ran out of money and collapsed when the album didn't sell to expectations. Manager Leee Black Childers broke into the bankrupt Track offices to retrieve the multitracks and mixes (though not the master), leading to efforts to remix the album in 1984 and eventually to recompile it in 1994, after both Johnny and Jerry had died. This 'definitive edition' 4xCD box set at last restores the original LP, uncovers three early demo sessions from 1976 & 77, and presents a wide selection of the 200 mixes made at five different studios. A 44-page booklet with recollections from guitarist Walter Lure, a detailed Heartbreakers timeline 1975-78, and an introduction by biographer Nina Antonia accompanies it, along with four punk pin-badges."

OBSEQUIES Organn 12"
At its core, Organn is a record about love and duality. Taking inspiration from Isidore-Lucien Ducasse's poem "Les Chants de Maldoror" (1869), the record is antagonistic yet often drops its temper to reveal blistered beauty within the chaos. Such are the contradictory elements within the compositions themselves: widescreen claustrophobia; glimmering sludge; piercing VHS ambience. Visuals come courtesy of French mixed-media artist, Thomas Hauser. Hauser's imagery similarly evokes retro-grade surrealism and further insists on a narrative at work here, with obscured characters playing out alongside mantric piano, filmic Vox, and hyperspeed jungle.

SUAREZ, ESTHER La Bolognesina LP
"Esther Suarez, also known as La Ocrasina De Oro, is a popular Peruvian Huayno singer. La Bolognesina is one of her earlier albums, featuring reverbed vocals over Andean harps supplemented with light percussion and handclaps. The album was recorded in 1981, with the title referring to her roots near the snow-capped Andean mountains of the Bolognesi province in the Ancash region of Peru. Peru experienced waves of mass rural-to-urban migration in the latter half of the twentieth century due to poverty and political instability, but with it also came an explosion in the popularity of the folkloric Huayno tradition. An urban and modernized studio version of ancient indigenous Quechua folk traditions, Huayno became the soundtrack to the migrant's experience of both hardship and homesickness. Esther Suarez's clear and yearning vocals soar over galloping Huayno rhythms, evoking the highlands of her youth with heartbreak, regret and melancholy, while simultaneously looking to a place where there is always a will to live and an invitation to dance. Truly some of the most beautiful music ever."

SEPETCI, CUNEYT Bulgar Gaydasi LP
"The second album by Istanbul's clarinet virtuoso Cüneyt Sepetçi is an intense trip into modern Turkish wedding and party music. The foundations go deep into Turkey and the surrounding regions' history, which each generation innovates and develops. These days, no wedding or circumcision party is complete without the sound of the micro-tonal keyboard. A new addition, these Turkish keyboardists can play between notes, and supply banging club rhythms in wide variety of time signatures. Sepetçi uses the bedrock of Volkan Sever's synth insanity as a jumping off point for some truly crazy solos. His fluttering sheets of notes tie knots around the pulsating, fried synthesizer. For this recording session, Sepetçi brought in two drummers, Fatih Özden (tapan) and Samet Sertol (darabouka), to play along with the Turkish drum machine. A dense nest of rhythmic complexity is the result. And to further connect to this music's rich past, the ancient double reed zurna of Ahmet Özden and Ya?ar Uçar's European violin weave ancient melodies and incredible solos throughout. These musicians are some of the best in Istanbul, and all of these songs are first takes, recorded live with very little planning. Sepetçi essentially leads the band through these complex arrangements as they play them. In Istanbul, one may see Sepetçi playing for change on Istiklal Caddesi, the famous Turkish walking street at the center of the city. Or one may see him on one of the TV stations, playing Anatolian songs in his inimitable style. He's even begun touring outside of Turkey -- at Denmark's Roskilde Festival, and at concerts in Italy, Beirut, and Israel. 'I want to go to America.' He says. 'Do they have mosques there?'"

THOMPSON, RICHARD Live At Rockpalast 3CD/2DVD
"Richard Thompson, the pioneer of British folk rock was voted one of the best guitarists of all time by US magazine The Rolling Stone: 'His acoustic picking is just as killer' they wrote. In 1983, Thompson went on tour to promote his current album Hand Of Kindness. For the show on December 12, 1983, at the Hamburg Markthalle the WDR also put up their cameras to record the event for the Rockpalast. The studio crew from the recording sessions of Hand Of Kindness was also present live. Among them three musicians who stood on stage with Thompson with Fairport Convention more than ten years before: Simon Nicol, Dave Pegg and Dave Mattacks. Nearly seven weeks later, on January 26, 1984 Richard Thompson & Band gave another concert in the French luxury resort Cannes on occasion of Midem being recorded by the WDR as well. Gerry Conway, today the drummer with the still active folk rock institution Fairport Convention, replaced Dave Mattacks, Rory McFarlane (bass) came for Dave Pegg who had to go into the studio to record a new album with his band Jethro Tull. In both concerts it is to be heard how well the musicians know each other and how they have been harmonizing for years. They are building an integrated whole with Richard Thompson. They carry the music of their 'boss' and give him the lightness and the leeway to fully unfold his potential. Both concerts are an absolute must for every Thompson fan."

SIBA E A FULORESTA Toda Vez Que Eu Dou Um Passo O Mundo Sai Do Lugar LP
Marafo Records present the first vinyl issue of Siba E A Fuloresta's Toda Vez Que Eu Dou Um Passo O Mundo Sai Do Lugar, originally released on CD in 2007. Siba was born in the cosmopolitan city of Recife, in a family which keeps close connection to its rural origin. Since his first contact with Mata do Norte tradition, he started a long learning and collaborating history, practicing the fundamentals of rhythmic poetry through the years to then become one of the greatest masters of the maracatu and cirandeiros' new generation. At the same time, as a member of the band Mestre Ambrósio, Siba developed a singular innovative music style, which has its distinct mark in the dialogue between traditional and contemporary, past and present, the street and the stage. After living in São Paulo for seven years, he went back to Pernambuco in 2002 to start Fuloresta, a group formed by traditional musicians from the small town of Nazaré da Mata. Their debut album Fuloresta do Samba was recorded in a mobile unit near Nazaré and released in 2003, followed by presentations all over Brazil. The group also toured Europe eight times from 2004 to 2011, developing their ability to adapt a song that lasts all night. Siba says: "We never understand our past or traditions as a cage. On the contrary, our traditions offer us a vast vocabulary and we try our best to use it all day and night. It is impossible to reproduce the way we engage the whole community in poetry and dancing all night, but in those 60, 90 minutes the festivals offer us we have a great opportunity to show our musical impact." Toda Vez Que Eu Dou Um Passo O Mundo Sai Do Lugar was Siba E A Fuloresta's second album: lyrics with intense poetry, cocos-de-roda, and frevos mixed with dub music, guitars, and electric pianos. A wind orchestra executing innovative arrangements with very special guest artists such as Céu, Beto Villares, Marcelo Pretto, Fernando Catatau, Isaar França, and Zé Galdino. An album with a surprising cosmopolitan tone that goes beyond and questions the barriers between popular culture and popular music, spoken poetry, literature, and the worn-out contrast between tradition and modernity. This album was nominated for a Latin Grammy and was the winner of Best Brazilian Music Album. Artwork by Osgemeos. Comes in a gatefold jacket; 180 gram vinyl.

MUSSIDA, SANDRO Ventuno Costellazioni Invisibili LP
The briefest encounter with Sandro Mussida's latest release, Ventuno Costellazioni Invisibili, leaves the ear wondering why its creator is not more well known. It is a stunningly beautiful work. Mussida is an Italian born, London-based composer and cellist, who also works within the field of electronics. Over the years, he has performed and written extensively within orchestra, chamber, and solo instrumental contexts, as well as working with Oren Ambarchi and Mark Fell. His composition In Memoria also notably graced the first side of Alessandra Novaga's brilliant Movimenti Lunari, released by Blume in 2016 (BLUME 004LP). Mussida's work centers around the consequences of compositional choices on musical matter, and questions surrounding the identity of musical languages and traditions; a bubbling conceptualism in sound, which has brought Ventuno Costellazioni Invisibili into the world. Ventuno Costellazioni Invisibili, a composition for violin, flute, clarinet, electric guitar, piano, percussion, and computers, was realized by an ensemble made up of Enrico Gabrielli, Yoko Morimyo, Susanne Satz, Alessandra Novaga, Giulio Patara, Sebastiano De Gennaro, Giovanni Isgrò, and Mussida, during the spring of 2015. Presented in two distinct realizations on each side of the LP, it is a work defined meditative depth and space, built from a focus on transfiguration of perceptual time -- pitches played at different speeds, musical cells generated by the rotation of triangular figures distributed in time and space. The result is a sonic world of startling intricacy and beauty -- one marked by the same openness, experimentation, and elegant restraint, which has long been the hallmark of the Italian sonic avant-garde. It is a near perfect image of minimalist classical music blowing off the dust, shedding the past, diving toward countless optimistic possibilities of what it may become. It's rippling sonorities, the inheritors of the ground once sketched by Franco Battiato and Giusto Pio, taking a radical step into the unknown. One of the most elegant and beautiful albums of 2017, made all that much more thrilling by the diversity and possibility, presented by the differences between its two sides. Artwork by Mark Fell; Includes a digital binaural download which slowly rotates through the piece, two visual works by visual artist Rebecca Salvadori, and an original print of the score on transparent sheets of acetate paper; Edition of 300 (numbered).

LOS PANKY'S The Complete Recordings LP
Munster Records present the complete recordings of Los Panky's, originally released in 1966. Released in collaboration with Burger Records. In 1962, Bill Haley & His Comets played live on Mexican television show Orfeón A Go-Go, in turn crediting them as the first American rock and roll band to accomplish this, and bringing "The Twist" to Mexico. Rock and roll was alive and well in Mexico City and though first wave groups like Los Teen Tops, Los Rebeldes Del Rock, and Los Apson enjoyed success, Haley's performance helped usher in a second wave of new teen garage rock bands. In the audience that night were the teens who would form The Black Diamonds, comprised by Raúl San Martín, César Hernández, Julio Saldívar, Silverio Pérez, and Marcel Ruano. Like most teen bands of any era, they rehearsed all day on shitty and borrowed equipment, in a tiny bedroom, with the ultimate goal of playing a gig or house party. The band took influence from the first wave Mexican rock and of course Americans like Elvis and Bill Haley. By 1965, The Black Diamonds got their break and were signed to Discos Orféon, one of the biggest labels at the time. The band changed their name to Las Ánimas, and sometime in 1966 they recorded an EP with a cover of The Vogues' "Five O'Clock World" and another track entitled "Nada Te Ofrezco". Although the EP was well-received, the band was unhappy with Orfeón's promotion and decided to part ways. 1966 also saw the "Hanky Panky" craze taking over Mexico, and every group raced to record their version. Free from their Discos Orfeón contract, Las Ánimas changed their name to Los Panky's and went to the record label Cisne. Los Panky's recorded what is said to be the most "demented" and "punk" version of "Hanky Panky" in the country, and it put them in the spotlight with national attention. Under Cisne, they recorded two EPs, one LP, Es Solo Amor (1966), were featured on two Cisne compilations. At the forefront of the second wave of Mexican rock and roll, Los Panky's became a national favorite. By the end of 1967 and the beginning of 1968, Raúl had decided that he wanted to try his luck in the United States. At just 18, he left Mexico and went to Los Angeles, and the band called it a day. Los Panky's faded into obscurity.

WORLD'S EXPERIENCE ORCHESTRA As Time Flows On LP
"World's Experience Orchestra's As Time Flows On has not been available as a stand-alone vinyl release since first being issued as a private pressing out of Boston in 1980. And those pressings where in small runs -- set in motion by a visionary, bassist/composer/arranger John Jamyll Jones. Jones is a magical type, who communicates with his instrument, his ensembles, and jazz's ancient lineage in a manner so profound that his late-'70s album are out of time with jazz's trajectory, but timeless when presented today. By the late '90s the music of World's Experience Orchestra was circulating throughout the collections of esoteric jazz fans, the likes of Gerald 'Jazzman' Short and Gilles Peterson, who played WEO for those, the Coltrane-enthralled searching for something new, something different. Something spiritual and honest. As interest in spiritual jazz and WEO grew, Now-Again set about an ambitious plan to reissue Jones' landmark works. 'I knew it was going to happen, but I didn't know when,' says Jones of the road to seeing his music re-issued. 'It's 35 years or more now, and I've been waiting for this, and I'm quite sure I'm not the only one.'"

GRANITE SHORE, THE Suspended Second CD
The second The Granite Shore album, Suspended Second, is a pop record, albeit an angry one. When writing began in spring of 2016, it dealt largely with anxiety. "Suddenly," says Nick Halliwell, "we were overtaken by what felt like a national self-harming anxiety episode, which then went global." Enlisting cult singer John Howard's voice of a (recording) angel was another step outside the "Indie Ghetto". The album employs a number of metaphors. "I considered picking up where the [2015 debut] Once More From The Top narrative left off, but resisted the temptation," Halliwell adds, "I wanted to focus on hooks, trimming off any fat..." The best pop is all about economy, hence unambiguous songs, like "Where Does The Sadness Come From?", "Outside, Looking In", and "Buyer Beware", sit alongside more expansive material like "The Performance Of A Lifetime", which conflates Brexit with the deaths of two Princes.

SHARK MOVE Ghede Chokra's LP
"Shark Move's Ghede Chokra's is a slab of raging psych straight out of early 70's Indonesia! When the Suharto regime seized power in the late 60's in Indonesia they immediately began to crack down on the alternative culture, with only a brave few willing to rebel, and the leaders of this musical rebellion were Shark Move. Recording Ghede Chokra's (translated from the Sanskrit as the Great Session) in 1973, Shark Move unleashed their psych masterpiece on the world on their own tiny label. From these small beginnings the Shark Move legacy grew exponentially, first within the Indonesian scene, and then around the world with the classic 'Evil War' featured on Now Again's seminal Those Shocking Shaking Days compilation. Recognizing a killer riff when he hears one, Madlib lifted the track wholesale for his 'City' single in 2013. With original copies of Ghede Chokra's now trading hands for obscene money, and even the extremely limited Indonesian repress from a few years ago impossible to find, we decided it was time to step in and reissue this monster! Pressed on blue vinyl with white splatter, and housed in a deluxe gatefold sleeve, now is the time to get your hands on this classic release."

VA Brown Acid - The Fifth Trip CD
"The hits just keep coming -- for this fifth lysergic journey, Riding Easy assembles ten heavy slabs of obscure rock the likes of which have never been seen before... not in this form, anyhow. And as usual, the tracks from these impossibly rare records have all been fully cleared through the artists themselves. Great lengths were gone to in order to get the best possible master sources, the worst case scenario being an original 45. The legendary Captain Foam kicks off this trip like an anvil to your skull with a rollicking stomper sounding like The Who with Matt Pike's thunderous guitar tone. VA Brown Acid - The Fifth Trip LP
LP version. 'No Reason' wasn't easy to find, but lo and behold, the super sleuths located him and got his blessing to include the A-side of his sole single. Good luck finding an original copy of the record. FLAMIN' GROOVIES Live In San Francisco 1971 CD
"The closing of the Fillmore West (actually, the Carousel Ballroom) put a big dent in the 'City By the Bay'. This performance was taken from the closing concerts for the venue. The list of bands that Bill Graham didn't want was also big... and the Flamin' Groovies were on it, for years. Our first manager was Bill's right hand man and when he quit working for Bill to manage the Flamin' Groovies this this did not sit well with Bill, so the Groovies went up and down in Bill's eyes. So it came as a big surprise when we discovered he wanted us for this big and important event, to participate in a series of shows leading up to the closing of this legendary venue. I remember the show well. The difference in playing this gig as opposed to the Whisky-A-Go-Go in L.A. was like night and day. At the Whisky, we were the house band (two summers in a row); at the Fillmore, we were up for grabs. Oh yeah, this was our last show with my good buddy, Roy Loney." --Cyril Jordan (Flamin' Groovies)

MULELID TRIO, KJETIL Not Nearly Enough To Buy A House CD
Following in the footsteps of In The Country and Espen Eriksen Trio, Kjetil Mulelid Trio is the third piano trio to appear on Rune Grammofon. Although they can be placed in the same musical landscape, it's also fair to say there are certain obvious differences. There's a solid dose of youthful playfulness and curiosity at work here, at the same time they show an assured maturity that belies their age (26, 26, and 29). The music is based on compositions by pianist Kjetil André Mulelid -- inspired by everything from psalms to free jazz -- but there is also room for collective improvisation. It can be energetic, rhythmically complex, and harmonically rich, but also intimate and with a beautiful melody. They work purely with acoustic sounds and timbres and are constantly reaching for new ways to express themselves within these frames. Personnel: Kjetil André Mulelid - piano; Bjørn Marius Hegge - double bass; Andreas Skår Winther - drums.

"Just To Hurt" lurks in with equal doses of dancehall rhythms, ice-y synths, and skittering alarms. "Xeno" opens with a murky riff reminiscent of ATL rap's most prominent producers. "Endless" mixes grimey detuned squarewave leads, melancholy vocal synths, and distorted bass.

DI DOMENICO/JIM O'ROURKE/TATSUHISA YAMAMOTO, GIOVANNI Delivery Health LP
2015 release. Delivery Health is the highly idiosyncratic trio of Giovanni Di Domenico, Jim O'Rourke, and Tatsuhisa Yamamoto. The recording was done in Tokyo's great GOK Sound, directly on a 24-track tape recorder, and was mixed at Steamroom, Tokyo, by Jim O'Rourke himself. The blend of early '70s ECM drum sound, long unfolding travelogues, and a great transparency in the mix, gives to this record a breadth and depth make the music hard to categorize. Jazz (think John Abercrombie's Gateway (1975) and, again, early ECM), electronic drones (reminiscent of Tony Conrad), and the most organic of rock sound (especially in drummer Tatsuhisa Yamamoto's tightness and openness) fuse in a very special way. DELIVERY HEALTH Hard Off LP
Delivery Health is Giovanni Di Domenico, Jim O'Rourke, and Tatsuhisa Yamamoto. Following the release of Delivery Health in 2015 (SW 010LP), the trio composed by Giovanni Di Domenico, Jim O'Rourke and Tatsuhisa Yamamoto returns with yet another amazing album. Delivery Health became the band name and Hard Off is the title of the second album. Recorded at the great GOK Sound studio in Tokyo, Hard Off brings the same warmness in sound (thanks again also to the fabulous mixing work done by O'Rourke) and attentive structural sensibility, this time with a more "lyrical" vein. Against the odds of geography -- continuously coming together within various collaborations and combinations of the three -- Giovanni Di Domenico, Jim O'Rourke, Tatsuhisa Yamamoto have begun to assemble one of the most exciting bodies of organized sound in recent years. The trio's second outing under the moniker Delivery Health is no exception to the rule. Recorded in Tokyo between 2012 and 2013 and emerging on the ambitious Silent Water imprint, Hard Off sidesteps signifiers and expectations, weaving a knotted tapestry from sheets of sound. An assembly, a lesson, and a simple conversation between friends, Hard Off is equally an exercise in loss. Its creators are three masters of their form, relinquishing ego and presumption for the honesty found in unforeseen truths. Preconception, reflex, and imprint fall away; a potent reminder of heights unveiled by the unmediated self. Hard Off is a non-place, an undetermined sonic location without allegiance. These are considerations which begin with the ear -- elastic excursions and experiments in improvised sound. Presenting startling and unexpected range, new worlds emerge and evolve from within the fog; rippling textural ambiance, harsh interlocking atonality, subtle and delicate interplay to outright rocking jam. An album which always seeming exactly what and where it needs to be, while moving toward where must be gone. Cover picture by Antonio Julio Duarte. 180 gram vinyl; Edition of 300.

TIETCHENS, ASMUS Parergon CD
"Asmus Tietchens, one of the most prolific German composers in the Electronic/Musique Concrete direction since late 70's, releases 25 years after Daseinsverfehlung his second release on Dark Vinyl's sublabel Stille Andacht. 'Parergon' (Greek 'collection of small texts') is the sequel of the idea to continue to recycle recyclings of recyclings. That does not mean remixes or deconstructions but much more genuine compositions derived from already repeatedly recycled structures. This approach is in no case hermetic because no circular course happens: There is no way back to the beginning. With digital tools -- but without chance operations -- one can achieve treatments and processing which lead to a nearly endless multitude of esthetic relevant compositions derived from once defined basic structures. In this connection 'sampling' is not of importance. The pieces of Parergon do not intend to provoke pictures or moods, but will give the listener simply something to listen to - it is up to him how he handles this offer. In consequence the pieces have no titles. Instead they have index data which point to certain series. Parergon has been composed in dark times, but at the best only the artwork reflects this conditions. The sounds themselves come from the vacuum."

SUN RA & HIS ARKESTRA Featuring Pharaoh Sanders And Black Harold LP
"'To understand the significance of the word 'featuring' on Featuring Pharoah Sanders And Black Harold, consider how infrequently Sun Ra used it and the exact way it had been used. The October Revolution in Jazz, organized by Bill Dixon in the West Village in 1964, presented a vivid cross section of approaches to the new music, including a sextet led by Ra. For the October Revolution's continuation, titled Four Days in December, held at nearby Judson Hall on the last days of 1964, the Arkestra performance presented Pharoah Sanders as well as a flautist (who was and remained obscure thereafter) named Harold Murray, nicknamed Black Harold. It wasn't until long after Sanders had achieved worldwide acclaim with John Coltrane that Ra and manager Alton Abraham decided to issue the music they'd recorded at Judson Hall. After its first release in plain or hand-decorated covers in 1976, Featuring Pharoah Sanders And Black Harold remained an exceptionally rare item in the El Saturn discography, known to a few lucky collectors. We're lucky to have this glimpse of what Sanders sounded like in such a different context, galvanizing the large group and in turn being inspired to make his first significant contribution on record.' --John Corbett (excerpt from the liner notes)"

GARRIE, NICK The Moon And The Village LP+CD
LP version. Includes CD. In the final year of his teens, Nick Garrie made an album that should be regarded as one of the great classic albums of the decade: The Nightmare Of J.B. Stanislas (1968). It's full of smart, romantic, melodious baroque-pop story telling songs with killer string and woodwind arrangements. After having disappeared for decades, copies of the album started to pop up for sale online at very high prices. In 2005, Stanislas was reissued. The word of mouth about how great it was soon spread and a new generation of Nick Garrie fans began to emerge. Musicians including Teenage Fanclub, Wilco, Camera Obscura, The Trembling Bells, Ladybug Transistor, and BMX Bandits were among those declaring themselves as fans. In 2009, Duglas T. Stewart was asked to help produce a new Nick Garrie album, 49 Arlington Gardens, and the world could hear that none of Nick's talents had diminished. Norman Blake of Teenage Fanclub, who performed on the album, declared this during the sessions: "Nick's the real deal. He can really do it. Brilliant songs and what a voice." The Moon And The Village is the new album by Nick Garrie. It's a thing of great and rare beauty. It's still very much the same Nick Garrie who made that incredible 1969 debut and the 2009 album too, but this time, Nick Garrie is in a more reflective mood. The songs are as strong as ever, but they have a certain directness and fragility about them. The sonic settings created by Gary Olson and a supporting cast of players matches the tenderness of the story telling in Nick's songs. The arrangements are from the school of less-is-more. Nothing is screaming out for attention here, but instead every sound perfectly plays its part in bringing the stories in the songs to life. Nick sings about a lost diary and about losing one's way on the album's opener "Lois' Diary". This track, like others on the album, has a beautiful sadness about it. One of the album's most affecting tracks is its most stripped back, "Got You On My Mind". It's just Nick's voice and a harp. The intimacy and warmth of the album feels like the perfect antidote to the in-your-face and often ugly nature of modern life. This is a gentle album that soothes the soul and warms the heart.

BAND OF HOLY JOY Funambulist We Love You CD
Formed from the ashes of an unrecorded '77 punk band Speed, Band Of Holy Joy's initial musical forays were largely in the domain of industrial bricolage and occasional bursts of madness. When they re-emerged at the end of the first decade of the new century, it was on their terms. A fiercely devoted fan base led to regular, albeit low-key releases. In some aspects, they're an art collective. Inspired by the possibilities which burst forth after punk, the band's expression takes many forms. Visual artist Inga Tillere plays a large role in shaping the band's aesthetic and live events, and in musical foil James Stephen Finn, Johny's poetic vision transcends expectations without resorting to desperate reaches into esoterica. It rarely names any names, and it's far from strident, but it's undeniably a record forged by 2017. (And you don't need to look it up -- a funambulist is a tight-rope walker -- even we're not sure if that's a metaphor or simply an obtusely snappy title). Funambulist comes hot on the heels of The Clouds That Break The Sky, a three-CD boxed set of Band Of Holy Joy's pre-Rough Trade records of the early to mid-80s.

ATRAX MORGUE The Pain Is Severe LP
Marco Corbelli's artistic journey began in the early '90s. Under the pseudonym of Marco Rotula, he started to release a series of fanzines in A5 format. The first was "The Pleasure Agony", followed by "Sick" and "Murders". The aesthetics of these first fanzines were very sophisticated and the content deals with topics that would follow Marco Corbelli throughout his artistic career: sadism, schizophrenia, insanity, murder, psychosis, necrophilia, diseases, and most importantly, death. In 1993, heavily influenced by his obsessions, Marco Corbelli began his musical activities creating the Slaughter Productions label and the Atrax Morgue project. Greatly inspired by Italian power electronics act The Sodality and projects such as Whitehouse and Brighter Death Now, pioneers of a minimal, evil and visceral electronic, Atrax Morgue released his first tape In Search Of Death (1993) which would be followed by a series of amazing cassettes in the following years. In 1995, the activity of the Slaughter Productions became more and more frantic, releasing countless tapes. At the end of the same year they produced two important works by Atrax Morgue. The first was titled An Expression Of Psychic Masochism, with one only track that was based on unique white, painful, and horrific synth drones; generating a mental alteration that initiates brutal operation of psychic surgery, neuroses and split personality. The second was titled Catch My Agony with two tracks that were founded on abrasive synth drones; the harsh and glacial sound atmosphere melts with murder, necrophilia, and dead bodies forming a macabre collage. Work was inspired by novel written by Hugh Fleetwood The Order of Death (1976), which has also been put on the screen by the Italian director Roberto Faenza (1983). It was originally packed in an outstanding bundle, literally stuck in a real mousetrap. The smell of death is saturated in every sound produced by the brilliant and twisted mind of Marco Corbelli in these two works. Anxiety, alienation, and hypochondria turn into a deep paranoia in pain. Without hesitation, the bodies are emptied, leaving the field to an electronics purulence of rare power disconcerting. Comes in a deluxe silver silkscreen on black cardboard sleeve; Includes a sheet with credits and art from first original Slaughter Productions logo (from the first fanzines); Black inner sleeve; Remastered from the original tapes; 140 gram vinyl; Edition of 199.

PROGETTO MORTE Progetto Morte LP
In 1995, Marco Corbelli shaped an interesting side-project, Progetto Morte, in collaboration with Walter Piano. The outcome of these twisted minds was a tape with the same title of the project recorded at Corbelli's home on June 10, 1995 and released the same year on Slaughter Productions with a booklet with the lyrics of the seven tracks, wrote by Walter Piano in Italian, and with the first Progetto Morte proclamation (translated in English too) revealing the nihilistic concept of this new alliance: the total sense of no-existence. The tracks on cassette are monolithic machines of industrial death that are portrayed in lovingly, grating, and rasping detail, with engines of soul rapine and pulsating, paranoid words eager to slice their way through soft flesh. The putrescence is tangible, and one could almost smell and taste the miasma of decay that pervades the entire vinyl. A blood and thunder, bass-heavy assault on the senses. Cold and surgical power electronics inspired by death, diseases, and suicide. Reprinted for the first in LP, tracks were remastered from the original tapes. Comes in a deluxe silver silkscreen on black cardboard sleeve; Includes booklet with lyrics (in Italian) and flyer from the first USA concert in 1996; Black inner sleeve; 140 gram vinyl; Edition of 199.

BIANCHI, MAURIZIO REMS/MECAT Complete Discography Vol. I 7xCASSETTE BOX
Among artists released on cassette in the 1980s was the great Maurizio Bianchi, one of the primary architects of Italian industrial music, whose early experimental works were almost entirely constrained to small run self-issued tapes, and, in this case pertinently, a handful of equally limited LPs. Urashima present REMS/MECAT Complete Discography Vol. I, a beautiful seven-cassette box set drawing on this remarkable era in Maurizio's output. Maurizio Bianchi's early period of musical productively was relatively brief, between 1979-1983, after which he withdrew for religious reasons. The period produced around 40 releases, roughly half of which were self-released, and nearly all of which were conceived for cassette. Whether by necessity or design, it is the format through which his work is best understood. In addition to the inception of Italian industrial and noise music, Bianchi represents one of that scene's most concise links to similar movements across the globe, during this period finding himself in regular contact with members of Throbbing Gristle, GX Jupitter-Larsen, SPK, Nocturnal Emissions, and Whitehouse, among many others. REMS/MECAT, stretching across seven cassettes, draws most of its material from Bianchi's slim output on LP, originally issued on his own imprints Mectpyo Sounds and M.B., or with other labels, such as William Sharp's Dys, and Gary Mundy's Broken Flag. This is the first time that most have been issued on cassette. Each album presents a writhing sea of abrasively brilliant sound. Brittle and creatively brilliant, these are the utterances of a new movement and its position in culture and society, birthed in the shadowy spirit of punk, and from the death of the countercultural idealism which defined the era before. Electronic music, with music at large, conceived entirely anew for a generation of disillusioned ears. Across each, creative singularity erupts; the organization of sound is pushed to unknown depths. As the critic Vittore Baroni noted in 1984, Bianchi's work is defined by "long magnetic suites in which the sound particles seem to have an independent character, stagnating and reproducing themselves with infinitesimal variations, and with a never lacking tension and 'logic to the absurd'." Includes: Regel (1982), Menses (1982), Symphony For A Genocide ?(1981), Mectpyo Bakterium (1981), Endometrio (1982), Carcinosi (1983), and The Plain Truth (1983). This is an essential release for fans of Italian avant-garde, industrial, and noise music. Produced in a stunning wooden box; Edition of 99 (hand-signed).

PATHAK, PANDIT ASHOK Ancient Court Raga Traditions CD
2017 repress. Subtitled: The Pathak Gharana, Dhrupad Ragas On Surbahar. Performed by Pandit Ashok Pathak (surbahar). Ancient Court Raga Traditions is comprised of two long tracks: "Raga Malkauns" and "Raga Bagesri," recorded in 2000. Only part of India's noblest classical instrumental traditions have been adequately documented on recordings, beginning with sitarist Imdad Khan in 1905. With the compact disc, raga performances could expand from pioneering 4-minute excerpts on 78 rpm discs to span well beyond an hour on CD, allowing full development and style to unfold. One vital court style remains in a fragmentary way: the ancient art of dhrupad, characterized by slowly singing and playing, which favored the arrhythmic alap section, based on the ancient Vedic chant. Too few of these family-based traditions survived the ending of royal patronage. Amongst them are the Pathaks, representing a musical lineage through 5 generations of dhrupad singers, veena players and sitarists, with the current generation including a composer and tabla player. Balaram Pathak introduced the use of harmonics on sitar with meend, heard on his one CD. This unique practice has been further explored by (his son) Ashok, who uses it extensively, along with thematic playing on the sympathetic strings. Before beginning a raga, he dwells on these strings, at times playing two simultaneously, creating harmonies which he adopted after having heard it in pre-Renaissance Western music (in polyphonic works by Perotin, Josquin des Prez, etc.). The recording took place over two afternoons. Each raga was played through once and without any changes or edits, and the decision was made to play "Raga Malkauns" on the second afternoon. As Balaram Pathak recorded one short work on surbahar, these performances further reveal the rare court tradition Pandit Ashok represents, its continuation despite the odds of a diminishing public which prefers khyal, and the musical contributions made by the performer himself to further their lineage.
