Matt Shoemaker took his own life at summer’s end 2017.

For nearly two decades, Shoemaker created unfolding compositions of depth and intensity, reflective of his unique if complicated vision of the world. His audio work has been released on such labels as Trente Oiseaux, Elevator Bath, and here at the Helen Scarsdale Agency, manifesting as some of the most singular, densely compacted, carefully arranged, and hauntingly beautiful transmissions we have not only published but also had the privilege to hear. Unfortunately, his work remains unknown to many; yet those who take the time to experience it are inevitably transfixed.

On May 5, 2018, his friends and collaborators will be performing a memorial concert in the Chapel Performance Space at the Good Shepherd Center in Seattle, Washington. This performance will feature Climax Golden Twins, Jim Haynes, Colin Andrew Sheffield, and Dave Knott. Information about the performance can be found at

In conjunction with this performance, an installation of Matt’s paintings and audio will be on view at Seattle’s Jack Straw New Media Gallery, from April 13-May 18 under the title Brain Goreng. Iinformation about Jack Straw can be found here:
