JEANNEAU, LAURENT Music of Southern Laos LP
Music of Southern Laos, subtitled Provinces of Champasak, Attapeu, Sekong and Saravan. One part of Akuphone's collection of Laotian music. Includes liner notes in English, French, and Japanese and a download code. Akuphone presents a collection of recordings of various musical practices from the Laotian provinces of Champasak, Attapeu, Sekong, Saravan, Luang Namtha and Phongsaly. These documents are a perfect introduction to the traditional music of South Laos minority groups. Popular modern music is widely spread but visitors are barely ever exposed to ancient acoustic practices from villages. As a matter of fact, mouth organs of various sizes exist among the Hmong and Bit as well as amazing vocal techniques among the Lantene, Ahka, or Khmu who combine simultaneous singing and flute notes. This collection also compels one to discover the Brao gongs, the Triang bamboo flutes, the Lao, Ta Oy, Alak, OI, Pacoh, or Nyaheun mouth organs as well as the powerful singing accompanying these instruments. Caught on the spot, these outstanding testimonies were collected between 2006 and 2013 by Laurent Jeanneau, aka Kink Gong. Through his researches, this self-taught ethnologist has gradually become one of the specialists of the field, building up a collection of complete and fascinating sound archives which contribute documenting parts of this immaterial heritage. Music of Southern and Northern Laos brings some light on a region of South East Asia still largely unknown from the general audience as well as the recently reborn ethnographic musical industry. This compilation will delight both molam/khene lovers and beginners unused to South East Asian sounds.

SMEGMA Abacus Incognito LP
New primitive-suburban-folk music from Temple City and Pasadena, CA, circa 1973-4. This new edition is culled from the original unissued Smegma tape vaults of Ju Suk Reet Meate and represents the most pure expression of the insular sound-world that was spontaneously discovered as a group. Unlike 2017's Look'n For Ya (TES 154LP) no song forms are ever used, instead fearless group improvisational vocals take you on a strange shape-shifting journey through operatic show tunes, spirit visions and visits to a delirium motel room. The only exception is the title track "Abacus Incognito" that features poetry by Dennis Duck (Human Hands, Dream Syndicate, LAFMS...) with accompaniment by the family stereo console record player/radio unit and utilizing conventional instruments creating a strangely unique non-jamming sound. Except for the first track, all sounds were recorded casually in various band-members parents' houses while they were away... they would have been horrified! The final track is possibly one of the strangest concepts ever recorded, inspired by both the Lord Dunsany story The Three Infernal Jokes and the most popular record of 100 years ago, The O.K. Laughing Record (or OKeh), there is The Smegma: Laughing to Death Record. Edition of 200 (numbered).

LOS ANGELES FREE MUSIC SOCIETY 35 S. Raymond Avenue LP
One afternoon in 1975, friend and fellow music traveler, Harold Schroeder, showed up at Poo-Bah Record Shop where Tom Recchion worked selling records and experimental music to people, forcing them to buy albums that he swore would change their lives. Harold asked if Tom wanted to share in a studio space close to the shop. After seeing it Tom immediately said "YES!". They moved in and divided the space in half. On Tom's half he made drawings, paintings, performances, video, sculptures, installations, and music. Harold had his all set up for music with his newly acquired Steiner-Parker synth and guitars and things. At the beginning they played under the name The Two Who Do Duets. Soon the late-night jam sessions that took place in the back of Poo-Bah moved over to the fourth floor of 35 South Raymond. It was pretty beat up and derelict, the way one imagines an artist's studio to look. They could make all the noise they wanted. No one else was on their floor. The music heard on this LP has remained unheard since it was recorded and was created just before and right after the inaugural concert by the Los Angeles Free Music Society (LAFMS) groups Le Forte Four, Doo-Dooettes, and Ace & Duce. That concert took place in late January 1976. The sessions on this release feature members of the newly formed and expanded Doo-Dooettes, which now included Dennis Duck, Juan Gomez, Harold Schroeder, and Tom Recchion, as well as Ju Suk Reet Meate from Smegma and Ace, of Ace & Duce. 35 S. Raymond eventually became a sort of LAFMS headquarters, with Chip Chapman of Le Forte Four, artist and future Extended Organ vocalist/guitarist Paul McCarthy, and soon to become singer for Nervous Gender, punk/folk artist Phranc, who along with many other artists and musicians, moved into the building. 35 S. Raymond allowed for free expression and explorations of all sorts. Some wild parties ensued, not to mention the luxury of endless hours of experimentation. Parking was free and so was the art and music. Ace found the tapes for side one ("Tom's Studio") in his archive and Ju Suk Reet Meate found the tapes for side two ("50 Of Every American Are Machines") and edited them both for this release. No overdubs or remixing was employed. Luxury gatefold sleeve; Edition of 200.

RIBEIRO & ALPES, CATHERINE N°2 LP
"Anthology Recordings is pleased to announce the reissue of the long out of print -- and never before officially issued in the US -- trilogy of albums by Catherine Ribeiro + Alpes, 1970's N°2, 1971's Âme Debout, and 1972's Paix. Anthology's presentation of these foundational LPs, arguably the group's finest hours on wax, fills in a crucial missing link in the canon of psychedelic and experimental music of the 60s and 70s. In a lineage with other uncompromising women singers such as Edith Piaf, Nico, and Diamanda Galas, Ribeiro's is a sound of possession, of ritual. Her approach shares more with performance art than it does with pop music. It's the sound of love and madness and political tumult, stripped bare and emerged from dark recesses. With her weighty voice, she emphasized expression and meaning over immaculate, adventurous musicality. Each LP includes its own insert featuring photos and original press material culled from Ribeiro's personal archive. Limited first run of 750."

SPIRAL DELUXE Voodoo Magic 2x12"
As electronic music knows no creative boundaries, Spiral Deluxe is clearly a profound and convincing example of what is possible in the times we live in today. Traditionally, they would be considered a musical quartet. Each of the four members contributing to make a special joint effort -- the meeting of minds from different spectrums of the musical sphere, but if you move in closer to examine how each have modified the way they communicate in order to play with each other. A longtime vision of their drummer/percussionist and Jeff Mills. Before becoming the world renown and groundbreaking DJ, producer, and artist he is recognized for, he was a drummer in his youth, which carried on up until he began DJing in the late 1970s. Since then, he had always carried idea to get back to his musical roots. This longtime dream began to surface a few years ago when Mills was bestowed a "white card" residency at the Museum du Le Louvre in Paris. It was there that he found the opportunity to form a band for one night and it opened the doors to a chance to materialize his dream. Since then, the formation has carefully evolved into one might describe as a "super band" -- a group of highly-skilled musicians, working together to reach a higher level of creativity. For example, although members are using electronic instruments, there is no MIDI syncing connection. Each plays their instrument unattached as if any jazz or rock band would play together. Each having a vast amount of experience in live and studio projects, this release displays their wealth of skill and musical knowledge that comes from jazz, funk, pop, gospel, Detroit techno, and all forms of house music. Spiral Deluxe is: Yumiko Ohno - keyboard; Gerald Mitchell - keyboard; Kenji "Jino" Hino - bass guitar; Jeff Mills - drums and percussion. Voodoo Magic is the result of a two-day recording session at the famous Studio Ferber in Paris. Most tracks on this release were recorded in one-take recordings to "capture the moment". "Let It Go" was composed by Spiral Deluxe and features even more masterful artistry of the likes of veteran vocalist Tanya Michelle, with the mix production of the one-and-only Detroit native producer and DJ Terrence Parker. 180 gram vinyl; Axis Audiophile Series; Color gatefold jacket. A and B side: 33 1/3rpm; C and D side: 45rpm.

WEINGARTEN, CARL Living In The Distant Present CD
Azure Vista present a reissue of Carl Weingarten's Living In The Distant Present, previously only released on cassette in 1985 on Weingarten's own Multiphase Records. The album is a rare treat for fans of guitar ambient, tape loops, and the experimental side of new age music. When Carl Weingarten is one of the unsung heroes of American minimalism. Even though he's been active for close to four decades, his work is just now starting to receive the praise it deserves. On Living Ín The Distant Present slowly shifting synth patterns is joined with his signature guitar playing -- a tranquil, stretched-out sound that blur the lines between played and processed, occasionally sonically closer to violins or flutes than guitars. Incredibly sparse and evocative, there's a tasteful zen-quality to these 12 tracks. Weingarten's compositions appear both timeless and tranquil. Living In The Distant Present bridges the gap between the most cosmic krautrock of the 1970s, the experimental American new age music from the 1980s, and modern day minimalism such as Windy & Carl and Christopher Willits. In his concern for sonic texture Weingarten's music resembles Brian Eno's ambient records, especially his collaborative efforts with Robert Fripp, where guitars are gradually looped and processed into shimmering clouds of sound. First CD issue.

SHEPP MEETS KAHIL EL'ZABAR'S RITUAL TRIO, ARCHIE Conversations 2LP
If Conversations celebrates the memory, the artistic and spiritual heritage of bassist Fred Hopkins -- a historical member of the revolutionary Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians of Chicago -- who died in January 1999, it also marks the amazing collaboration between the Ritual Trio of Kahil El'Zabar (with Ari Brown and Malachi Favors) and the intrepid veteran Archie Shepp, the great voice of the '70s Afro-free-jazz. Being a tribute that invites to an intimate memory, almost an antidote to exorcise the loss of a brother, the music is a spiritual hymn to life. Between ballads, hard-bop, and free-improvised accents, blow winds of vibrant pianistic chiaroscuros, which are reminiscent of the best McCoy Tyner in the great blinding quartet of John Coltrane in the '60s. Furthermore, when an angular rhythmic base decisively follows the typical hypnotic ostinato of the ancient tribal rituals, the voice is expressed in the purest black spirituals (Big Fred and Brother Malcolm), pervading some moments of that "Holiness" culture dear to the dawn of Afro-American identity. Here, Shepp brings back the flaming shivers of the golden age, when his message of freedom resonated the true spirits of primordial Africa.

BITTER FUNERAL BEER BAND WITH DON CHERRY Live In Frankfurt 82 LP
First of all, Bengt Berger -- a pioneer of the Swedish underground of the '70s and historical member of bands such as Archimedes Badkar and Arbete Och Fritid -- is a versatile drummer-percussionist and well-educated ethnomusicologist with several research sojourns in India and Ghana. Deeply influenced by Hindustani, Carnatic, and West Africa music, he founded the Bitter Funeral Beer Band in 1980, an ensemble of 12 elements, basing his ideas on the traditional funeral music of the people of LoBirifor, in the northern region of Ghana. The sound material reinterprets the spirit of the funeral ritual, when the dance and its songs become a moment of catharsis, releasing a sense of joy in the trance for the liberation from pain. The marriage between this Afro-polyrhythmic roots, with the spiritual jazz of the eternal Don Cherry, and the Ondian sarod of K. Sridhar, it is in the direction to a pan-internationalism of profound spirituality, which blends different geographical traditions in a single contemplative gaze. It is the convergence towards a music without boundaries, where every instrumental voice shines and is well fermented and integrated.

DOUM & THE FARYDS, AL Spirit Rejoin CD
Listening to the music of Al Doum & The Faryds is always like staying in the pristine nature of an exotic island, in the sacred harmony of a new organic society; imaging all brothers and sisters singing and dancing in the unity of the brotherhood. This is the message of love and joy that pervade this fourth album, Spirit Rejoin. Moving towards accents of jazz ancestry, the Faryds absorb and re-elaborate -- with remarkable insights -- disparate elements and influences of electric jazz of the '70s (Miles Davis, Dr. John) and spiritual jazz (Sun Ra, Pharoah Sanders, Don Cherry), marrying them with the forceful instances of Afro-free (Pyramids, Alkebu-Lan). The music celebrates a new collective soul, a dancing cathartic ritual with birds, plants, and all the animals, together in the circle of devotion. A journey in the total pranic breath.

HAIRBONE Earth To Momma LP
Hairbone is a New York-based power trio of artists Raúl de Nieves, Jessie Stead, and Nathan Whipple, formerly known as Haribo. Functioning mainly in the art world, Hairbone has inflicted audiences from museums to decrepit basements with their carnivalesque live shows for nearly a decade. Each unique, thematically pointed multimedia performance narrative features frontman de Nieves inhabiting new personae in a sculptural actionist mode, brandishing oversized text-emblazoned props as if they were picket signs before their eventual destruction as Hairbone's near-opera burlesque freak shows unfurl. Obliquely political, theirs is a protest music without didacticism. Despite Hairbone's prolific, obsessively-documented life as a performance art group, Earth To Momma is the band's first studio LP, distilling their sprawling live shows into 12 distinct pieces of lyrical, art-damaged rock and pop music. Their institutional success begs for comparisons to artists' bands like Destroy All Monsters or Die Tödliche Doris, but Hairbone's confusion of high and low culture fits them equally into peerdom with the classic American underground of the Butthole Surfers and Sun City Girls. A native of Mexico, de Nieves' bi-lingual incantations are bolstered by Stead's synthetic drum sampling and acid-fried neoclassical shredder excess courtesy of guitarist Whipple. The record is a shapeshifting suite that fits veiled commodity critique, volcanic convulsions, blasé songcraft, and a breezy instrumental into a hallucinatory vision haunted by abject clowns and the grain of twisted emergency police calls. With tongue set firmly in cheek across Stead's ode to Chateau Diana bodega "wine product" and de Nieves' simulated Kim Gordon sighting, Hairbone maintain an irreverent authenticity in an era when the mere notion has become a barren field. With cover art by Jessie Stead, the record also features guest appearances from Mudboy, Lucy Jean Powers, Sergei Tcherepnin, and Yu Yamaguchi. Edition of 500.

HENNIX, CATHERINE CHRISTER Selected Early Keyboard Works 2LP
Selected Early Keyboard Works is the first in a series of planned archival records of the unheard music of Swedish composer, philosopher, poet, mathematician, and visual artist Catherine Christer Hennix, co-released by Blank Forms Editions and Empty Editions. It comes hot-on-the-heels of Traversée Du Fantasme at the Stedelijk in Amsterdam, Hennix's first solo museum exhibition in over 40 years, and coincides with both Blank Forms' publication of Poësy Matters and Other Matters, a two-volume collection of her writing, and the closing of Thresholds of Perception, a retrospective archival show of Hennix's visual work at The Empty Gallery in Hong Kong. The record also marks the first time Hennix's own music has been given a full-length vinyl issue. In 1976, Catherine Christer Hennix's just intonation live-electronic ensemble The Deontic Miracle performed Hennix's original compositions, alongside works by La Monte Young, Terry Riley, and Terry Jennings, as part of Brouwer's Lattice at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm. Culled from rehearsal tapes recorded during the ten-day Dream Music Festival, Selected Early Keyboard Works features three pieces of minimal music, performed by Hennix on tunable electric keyboards. "Mode Nouvelle Des Modalités", for well-tuned just intonation Fender Rhodes and sine wave drone, is a consummate expression of Hennix's formative years, a probing meditation giving the mercurial quality of early electronic music an instrumental life replete with the dexterity of Cecil Taylor and shades of Paul Bley's synthesized reveries. "Equal Temperament Fender Mix", performed on the same Rhodes but in twelve-tone equal temperament tuning, employs a tape delay system not unlike that used famously by Terry Riley, here towards more somber, hallucinatory means. Hennix is joined by Hans Isgren for the collection's centerpiece, "The Well-Tuned Marimba", for well-tuned Yamaha, sheng, sine wave, and live electronics. Using the same approach and just intonation keyboard featured on Hennix's The Electric Harpsichord (2010), but with marimba in place of harpsichord stops, the piece is an undulating marvel of lysergic drone, equally deserving of its companion's status as "THE obscure masterpiece of the days of the early American minimalism". Now accessible for the first time, these recordings only begin to fill gaps of silence from a figure whose work has until recently remained flickering at the margins of some of the most enduring cultural developments of the 20th century. Tape transfer and master cut by Andreas (Lupo) Lubich. Audio restoration and mastering by Stephan Mathieu.

VA Fly Rocket Fly: From The Jungle To The Stars CD
Long before Elon Musk reached for the stars with his SpaceX project, a Swabian engineer by the name of Lutz Kayser harbored his own childhood dream of a voyage into space. Fly Rocket Fly - Mit Macheten Zu Den Sternen ("To The Stars With Machetes") tells the remarkable story of how he and a dedicated band of Stuttgart engineers founded the world's first private space exploration enterprise: Orbital Transport-und Raketen Aktiengesellschaft, or OTRAG (Orbital Transport and Rockets Inc.). Having enlisted Wernher von Braun as scientific adviser, this early start-up developed a rocket in the late 1960s on the principle of low cost rather than high tech. Windscreen wiper motors were deployed in valve control systems, for example. Kayser's search for a suitable development site led him to African dictator Mobutu Sese Seko who signed off on a deal to allow OTRAG to establish a launch facility in the Congolese jungle. OTRAG built their very own German Cape Canaveral in an area the size of the former GDR, complete with its own butcher's shop and marijuana plantation. They successfully launched several rockets to suborbital altitude before the global political crisis of the mid-1970s put an end to OTRAG's activities. Nobody wanted to see German rockets in the skies over the African jungle (or anywhere else) 30 years after the war -- Fly Rocket Fly is a madcap mix of adventure, political thriller, farce and economic drama -- somewhere between Fitzcarraldo (1982), The Wages of Fear (1953) and Tintin: Explorers On The Moon. The documentary's soundtrack, to be released on Hamburg-based label Bureau B, features songs by the likes of ESB, Camera, Conrad Schnitzler, Günter Schickert, Die Wilde Jagd, as well as new productions from film composer Heiko Maile. Also features Solyst, Dennis Young, Rolf Trostel, and Moebius Neumeier Engler. CD version includes three bonus tracks.

LAPRE Auferstehung: Elektronische Musik aus Berlin 1983/1984 CD
In 1983, electronic musician Rudolf Langer (Tyndall) and guitarist Peter Preuß teamed up to form a duo by the name of LAPRE (LAnger + PREuß). Aligned with the second generation of the Berlin School, their output is incredibly varied: from repetitive sequencer patterns via playfully cheerful synth pop all the way to atmospheric, hypnotic minor key expanses. It's all there. By 1984, LAPRE had released two tapes and a 12" vinyl. Bureau B's compilation presents the most compelling tracks from these releases. Rudolf Langer began his musical career as one half of Tyndall. The duo released four albums on Sky Records between 1979 and 1983. By the time the two musicians reached the fourth album (BB 289CD/LP), they were barely on speaking terms, so each recorded one side of the LP on his own. The split from his former partner turned out to be a liberating experience for Rudolf Langer, both in a personal and artistic sense. As luck would have it, Langer was riding home one night with a colleague from work, Peter Preuß, and a tape machine was lying on the back seat of the car. It turned out that Preuß was also a musician, a guitarist in fact, and they decided to hook up for a jam session. The results were hugely promising and a plan was made to record together. What should they call the project? The answer was simple -- take the first letters of their names. LAnger + PREuß = LAPRE. They worked on track after track after track and produced two tapes over the next two years ("Tedan" in 1983 and "Flokati" in 1984), each numbering 30?50 copies, intended for sale at concerts. A 12" single on their own label (Oeso) followed later in 1984. Although guitar features on every track, LAPRE's early recordings relate to the Berlin School, with their music, specifically their use of synthesizers, echoing the tradition of Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, et al. LAPRE's mix of analog synthesizers, acoustic guitars and drum computers saw the duo occupy a previously uncharted niche in electronic music. How wonderful to see these recordings being made available to a wider audience over thirty years later. First time CD release for all tracks.

VA Future Sounds Of Jazz Vol. 14 2CD
Future Sounds Of Jazz Vol. 14, compiled by Permanent Vacation's Benjamin Fröhlich and Tom Bioly. 28 tracks by Move D, Roman Flügel, Slowdive, Isolée, Cobblestone Jazz, Luke Abbott, remixes by Avalon Emerson, Russ Gabriel, Kassem Mosse, I:Cube, among others, including three exclusive and previously unreleased tracks. Wow, a new chapter of this legendary series. This and the very first time it's not compiled by Michael Reinboth, rather by Benjamin Fröhlich and Tom Bioly, the founders and masterminds behind Permanent Vacation. Why- Simply because they both are very close friends of the Compost family, with an amazing musical and DJ-like tastefulness, with the knowledge-based trust of music in the vein of vibrant, jazzy electronica hybrids. And they are from Compost Records' hometown Munich, too. Maybe Volume 14 differs slightly to what the previous 13 brought up music-wise, but that's the score, idea, and open-mindedness of this series, as it was by the compilers, and last but not least a great time for a change, too. The first half of the release, compiled by Benjamin Fröhlich, is clubbier. The second half, compiled by Tom Bioly, is a bit more sublime downbeat/electronica or relaxed feel. Both are true listening pleasure anyway. Future Sounds Of Jazz has been voted as one of the best compilation series of all time by several publications. With this series, starting in 1995, the term "future jazz" became a genre landmark. Also features: Basil Hardhaus, JTC, The Abstract Eye, Tee Mango, Marvin Horsch, Matt O'Brien, Aubrey, Marcellus Pittman, Herzel, David Goldberg, Benjamin Fröhlich, Claude Rodap, Jose Padilla, Jex Opolis, Pierre Bastien, Vanishing Twin, Yussef Kamaal, Machine Woman, The Stowaway, New Jackson, Albinos, Sirconical, and TB.

This exposition (consisting of an exhibition, seminars, concerts, and listening and film sessions) was dedicated to the sound engineer Marino Zuccheri, the main collaborator of Milan's famous electronic music studio, the Rai Studio di Fonologia Musicale. ZUCCHERI, MARINO Parete 67 LP
Parete 67 is a great work has been totally forgotten since today -- this record is in fact a world premiere, and the final act of justice towards a man that contributed so much to the birth and development of electronic music. In 1967 the painter Emilio Vedova was appointed by the Italian government to create an installation for the Italian Pavilion of the Montreal Expo. Vedova came up with this great idea of using small glass slides, especially created to reproduce his abstract painting, and projecting them on the asymmetrical walls of the Pavilion. He then asked Luigi Nono to compose some electronic music, but Nono had no time, and suggested to ask Marino [Zuccheri]. He replied: "I could do something, but keep in mind that I am no composer." The result is "Parete (Wall) 67", a spectacular and intense 30-minute loop of pure and intense electronics, a magmatic cascade of harsh sounds and deep drones, and a fantastic counterpart to the harsh and expressionistic painting of Vedova. Marino Zuccheri was the sound engineer of the famous Milan RAI (Italian Broadcasting Company) Electronic Music Studio, and he helped Berio, Nono, Maderna, Cage, Pousseur, among the others, to give birth to some of the great masterpieces of early electronica. He was the man who actually knew and operated the machines (oscillators, tapes etc). That's why Umberto Eco wrote this about Zuccheri: "Who is one of the most performed contemporary electronic composer in the world? Marino Zuccheri, the sound engineer of the RAI Studio of Fonologia in Milan. Illustrious figures in the history of contemporary music arrived there with State grants; but after many months, they still couldn't figure out how to handle the machines. Then Marino (who, working with Berio and Maderna, had become a wizard), started mixing tapes and producing electronic sounds: that is why some of the compositions now being performed all over the world are by Marino Zuccheri." Deluxe silver cover with foil embossing; Custom inner sleeve; Includes insert; Edition of 300.

KAYN, ROLAND Simultan 3LP BOX
First in the series of LP boxsets documenting the birth of Roland Kayn's cybernetic music. One of the great pioneers of electronic, computer, and instrumental avant-garde music, for the majority of his life, the German composer Roland Kayn remained almost entirely unknown, a founding member of the legendary ensemble, Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza, heralded as a singular genius by a small number of figures like Jim O'Rourke. Though the composer was included within Deutsche Grammophon's seminal Avant-Garde series during the early 1970s, it wasn't until 2017, six years after his death, that the ranks of his fans began to noticeably swell, following the release of his monumental work, A Little Electronic Milky Way Of Sound by Frozen Reeds (FR 007-022CD, 2017). Die Schachtel present a reissue here of Simultan, an overwhelmingly important work in his canon, from 1977, stretching across three LPs. While Roland Kayn might be easily described as a composer of electronic, electro-acoustic, or computer music, the majority of his career was in fact largely dedicated to the revolutionary sculpting of an entirely new territory of sound: cybernetic music, a generative process of composition through programming. Simultan was among the first of the composer's works to emerge from this process. Cybernetic music grew from Kayn's longstanding engagement and fascination with data processing theory. This territory of creativity was the composer's attempt to allow sound to be self-sufficient, stripping away notions of harmony, melody, and rhythm, deploying complex networks of electronic devices. Created during the period in which Kayn was living in the Netherlands and recorded with the assistance of electronic music legends Jaap Vink and Leo Küpper, Simultan is filled with a remarkable sense of humanity and touch. The sounds on Simultan range from seductive ambiences, grinding swells of atonally and pure texture, to buried tone clusters. "The mystery, the grace, the boundless invention -- Kayn's machine music is a vast catalogue of very human wonder." --The Guardian Remastered from the original analog master tapes. Includes booklet with new liner notes. Includes printed inner sleeves. Standard edition comes in an edition of 400.

FUTUROPACO Futuropaco CD
Futuropaco's debut album is the shape of things to come: it's a wet, enigmatic cocktail of part 1970s Italian library music, part kraut-alicious, beat-galore, and part riff-driven heavy psych. Justin Pinkerton, from Oakland, California, is the one-man army behind the opaque merge of seemingly different forces: from mad fuzz guitar breakdowns à la Morricone at his most intense, to the syncopated drum learnings of Jaki Liebezeit, Justin weaves a blanket of sound that's simply loaded with deep vibes: From heavily modulate Moog synths, gentle glockenspiel through amplified echo-perplexion. You almost forget that Justin's main instrument is actually the drums -- if it wasn't for the superb loaded-yet-understated grooves tying everything together in an intricate tangle. With a background as drummer and composer in famed psych-rockers Golden Void, Justin also works as a full-time film composer for library and commercial music. Futuropaco is the meeting between his two passions: it's a vivid sonic dream where abstraction melts with the strict, focused approach of cinematic cues. It almost makes you forget the murky future of America these days, which was the catalyst for this album and its title. Imminent dystopia never felt this grounded, bright and uplifting. Freedom fuzz!

JERMAN BARNES The Finger'd Remove LP
"Jerman Barnes sounds like a fancy men's shoe brand, but it's actually a duo comprised of two of the American underground's most prolific wanderers -- Jeph Jerman and Tim Barnes. Jeph has explored everything from primitively brilliant free jazz with Blowhole to deep electronic explorations under the name Hands To, although in the latter part of the 1990s he shifted his focus to music made with found natural objects. Tim Barnes entered our consciousness as fluent master of experimentally canted percussion before he threw us a curve by joining Matt Valentine's Tower Recordings ensemble and going deep-prole for a while. Regardless, he and Jeph started releasing duo recordings almost 15 years ago, and they all brim with a very specific type of spectral weirdness. The instruments listed in the credits are: metal, bamboo temple blocks, springboard, wood, feathers and electrics. Furthermore the sho is played by Ko Ishikawa. So what about the three horn players pictured on the cover? In fact, they are Alex Bruck, Ramón Del Buey, and Misha Marks. This ensemble is briefly heard as distorted source material on the a-side (a penny to the first listener who finds them), but it turns out for this project they're mostly just dancers who use the horns as props, visually key to the process; aurally, not as much. But as you listen to The Finger'd Remove you'll probably start to wonder, 'Hey, where are the instruments not listed? Because surely that's the sound of a dead horse full of bees being dragged down gravel road. Or, wow -- a Texas rain-toilet.' Right? Well, Jeph and Tim aren't saying, but maybe it's just that there are instruments too complicated to notate. Dig? The wild collection of sounds here are designed to live primarily in your imagination. Do you really need to name all that stuff? Our suspicion is you'll be just fine if you lay back, close your eyes, and open your mind to the infinite possibilities suggested here. Words are just too drab to fully capture it all." --Byron Coley, 2018 Edition of 200; Includes download code.

EISENBERG, WENDY Time Machine LP
"Time Machine is a reissue of a 2017 cassette, and represents the first vinyl issued by Wendy Eisenberg, a peripatetic improviser and composer currently based in Amherst. We first heard of Wendy when she was playing with a blasted quartet called Birthing Hips, whose NNA cassette was an instant classic. Since then she's begun a solo career that branches off in a lot of directions simultaneously. She has an album of post-form noise-metal (in trio with Trevor Dunn and Ches Smith) due soon on John Zorn's Tzadik label. She has an LP of acoustic guitar improvs coming up on Steve Lowenthal's VDSQ imprint. And then there's Time Machine -- a gloriously intimate suite of bedroom pop miniatures that makes us suspect she can do about anything she sets her mind to. The music on Time Machine is arranged sparingly and sung with real warmth. Although everyone thinks I'm nuts for mentioning it, I am reminded in spots of the Space Lady's outsider take on keyboard pop. But there are also large parts of this record that put me in mind of Elisa Ambrogio's solo work as well as the singing she does with 200 Years, meaning there's a sense of inherent wildness being reined in a bit, all for the sake of the songs. Time Machine is a wonderfully flowing album. Small parts of the instrumentation hint at the stranger vistas Ms. Eisenberg's music can explore, reminding us that this is but one of her guises. But it's a damn good one, and we're very happy she let us help document it." --Byron Coley, 2018. Edition of 250.

ARKM FOAM Bloodroot Spitball LP
"Vinylization of a CD-R released by Josh Burkett's Mystra Records by this great cassette manipulator, who was long a central part of the Boston Whitehaus scene. Bloodroot Spitball is a bit different from Arkm Foam's other Feeding Tube releases, since it incorporates a bunch of 'real' instruments into the mix. This hearkens back to Mr. Foam's first solo LP, The Foam Doesn't Fall Far From The Shore (2013), on Hot Releases. As on that one, there's another player heard here, when Andy Allen (who was all over that first LP) joins a tune to play clarinet. That track, 'Clarimello', may be one of my faves here because the friction between live music and taped/manipulated music is always a treat to hear when it's done well. And this is. The second side is a suite, recorded on the street in Greenfield, while doing something or another. Sounds sort of like he's trying to vacuum dust off of peoples' shoes as they pass by, but that's probably an illusion. Whatever's happening, it's a fine slab of disorganized urban field recording, and makes a very nice contrast to the more evolved work on the a-side, making for another beautiful addition to the Arkm Foam section of every connoisseur's collection." --Byron Coley, 2018. EMERALD WEB The Stargate Tapes 2LP
2018 repress. Sharing social circles and spiritual ideologies with artists such as Iasos, Connie Demby and Deuter, whilst splitting label release schedules with Laraaji, Laurie Spiegel and Wendy Carlos, the unique Florida-raised soul mate duo known as Emerald Web released their privately pressed debut LP at an axis where post-prog rock met proto-new age and ambient electronic music. At the turn of the 1980s, Bob Stohl and Kat Epple embarked on a ten-year spiritual journey playing at planetariums and laser shows above the same Californian silicon city that devised the early computer music software, unifying their state-of-the-art modular synth soundscapes and organic compositions of flutes, bells and field recordings and furnishing a self-pressed cassette tapeography of inimitable Emerald Web music for their self-funded Stargate label. Having first communicated via the medium of music as flute players at a South Florida jam session, the future space music luminaries would be instrumental in assisting synthesizer companies via feedback and consultancy in developing instruments such as the Lyricon wind synth (favored by Suzanne Ciani and Bruno Spoerri) and various sponsored machines for Arp, Buchla, EML, Computone and Orchestron. Named after a laser show formation and combining influences from science fiction films, fantasy novels and a broad musical spectrum including Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, It's A Beautiful Day and Goro Yamaguchi, Bob and Kat would balance day jobs as synth programmers as well as TV and film soundtrackers under the moniker BobKat Productions (counting microscope nature documentarian Carl Sagan amongst their clients) with evening synthesizer shows at galleries, spiritual centers and even punk clubs. This compilation album comprises early tracks from Emerald Web's debut vinyl release and the four rare cassette-only albums on Stargate Records from 1979-1982. Taken from original master tapes and recorded using revolutionary and prototypal music technology.

KENT & JEAN D.L., JULIA The Great Lake Swallows CD
The Great Lake Swallows is a collaboration between Canadian cellist Julia Kent and Belgian guitarist/tape machine manipulator Jean D.L. Recorded in Charleroi, Belgium in 2015 during a video installation with Sandrine Verstraete, the music was created using field recordings, processed guitar, and cello and serves as a soundtrack to the video of the same name. The album is an aching, ambient wonderland that ensues beauty at every turn. It was built as a whole and, indeed, should be consumed as a whole. The repetition is hypnotizing, a lulling sense of calm entwined in hints of unease that flows seamlessly in-and-out of sleepy melodies and broken drones. Unfolding over a brief twenty-six minutes, The Great Lake Swallows cannot out-stay its welcome. Everything contained within feels necessary, each movement informing the next, a conversation between two outstanding musicians. Hand-printed and assembled sleeves.

CHIWESHE, STELLA Kasahwa: Early Singles LP
LP version. 180 gram vinyl. Includes download code. A collection of early singles by the renowned Zimbabwean Mbira master and a true African music icon, Stella Chiweshe. The songs were mostly recorded in the 1970s, during the buildup to the Chimurenga revolution, and were only ever released in Stella's home country. Stella's album Kasahwa: Early Singles offers a fascinating introduction to the world of Mbira, with the term not only referring to the instrument, but also to a musical genre -- and on a much wider level, to an entire culture and deeply spiritual lifestyle at the core of the young Zimbabwean nation. Mbira is an ancient mystical music which has been played for over a thousand years by the Shona people. Mbira pervades all aspects of Shona culture, both sacred and secular. Its most important function is as a "telephone to the spirits of people, water, trees, stones and birds," used to contact both deceased ancestors and tribal guardians, at all-night ceremonies. Kasahwa is a collection of impossible-to-find early seven inches, eight cuts spanning the period from 1974 to 1983 and representing Mbira in its purest form. None of these songs has been released outside of Africa so far. In her humble beginnings, little pointed to the fact that young Stella at sixteen would become "The Queen of Mbira" and nothing short of a national icon. Growing up on a musical diet of white American rock n' roll and country, she initially showed little interest in local traditional music. It was not until two years later, that Mbira started to ring inside her head "loud and endlessly". This overwhelming, mystical experience turned Chiweshe into an avid student of the instrument and the philosophy connected to it. But playing Mbira music was by no means a career option for women in the British colony of Rhodesia: none of the (male) musicians were willing to teach her. And, almost worse, none of the instrument makers agreed to build an instrument for a woman. Stella ended up recording her debut single "Kasahwa" (1974) on a borrowed thumb piano. "Kasahwa" made Stella a local sensation. After the country had become independent in 1980, Chiweshe started to tour internationally, first as a featured soloist of the new National Dance Company of Zimbabwe, and later under her own name. New mastering by Nick Robbins.

Variations on a Theme is comprised of three long songs employing a series of rhythmic chants whose cadence-like textural drive conveys flight. The album's numerous lyrics serve as symbolist vehicles to a state outside the field of time and space. Variations on a Theme is a series of vibrations and flow. The opening track,'On The Mountain at Dawn' is the thematic blueprint of the entire album; a transportive series of differentiated verse with sets of solid groove. Silent Vigils is the work of Stijn Hüwels and James Murray. James Murray will be well known to many for his highly celebrated works, including Killing Ghosts (HOMEN 091CD, 2017) as well the Slowcraft label which he curates. Stijn Hüwels is the curator of the Slaapwel label, and his work with James as Silent Vigils marks the first in a series of collaborations. Their work as Silent Vigils is so delicate, slow-burning and powerful in spirit that the very name they use for this project is just so fitting. The word "vigil" naturally leads to a concept of reflection and one of being quietly awake and on "watch" during the night. The music reflects this idea so perfectly, with its quietude, patience, and a feeling of nocturnal devotion. Such ambiguous terms could be used for almost any ambient works of course, but few records leave one with such a powerful sense of deep spiritual awareness and contemplative unknowing. This is reflected as well in the track titles; "Molenbrook", "Mossigwell", "Zwartewall", and "Fieldem". These are places neither here nor there, half in the world, half in the mind.

DIE WAIT WATCHERS Suspension Of Disbelief LP
"Suspension Of Disbelief is the fourth and most mature album by Die Wait Watchers, the band project of contemporary artist and musician Tim Berresheim. Founded in 2013, Die Wait Watchers are Andi Thissen with his spot-on groundwork on the bass, Michael Bente, who elicits catchily jagged sounds from his guitar and Tim Berresheim, who as Spiritus Rector arranges psychedelia and the likes on the drum computer and synthesizer. The outcome is a mixture, if you will, of radio-friendly wave and bar jazz for fully-lit lounges consisting of crystalline ad-lib modules and a spurring prog rock momentum -- in short, something which the usual categories fail to describe accurately and which is ultimately or rather presumably inspired by The Residents. Most of their releases were recorded in parallel with Berresheim's output as a visual artist: Their debut album Transit came out at the occasion of his 2012 exhibition in Berlin entitled 'Traces' and was meant to bridge the potentially not-so-laid-back standby time during the transition from the analog to the digital era. The dub-infused We Are Smoking Caramellow was recorded in 2014 for Berresheim's solo exhibition Auge und Welt at the Düsseldorf-based Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen ? and finally, now there's Suspension Of Disbelief, which accompanies Berresheim's eponymous shows at Kunstmuseum Stuttgart and Neuer Aachener Kunstverein. Despite a number of stylistic differences, the Wait Watchers' albums are not unlike the work of contemporary artists-slash-musicians Mike Kelley, Michaela Melián and Kai Althoff: They are integral components of artistic oeuvres and at the same time quite simply publications which correlate with genres such as hauntology or hypnagogic pop. Suspension Of Disbelief is by far more atmospheric than its predecessors: Berresheim introduces a wide range of percussive elements along with samples of pieces for strings and wind instruments, creating a gravely impressive, almost sinister atmosphere reminiscent of his 2006 solo debut No Time Left . . . From early free jazz to new age, from jazzy library sounds ('Delectus') to space rock accompanied by flutes ('Subortus') and all the way to forceful, almost Morriconesque tracks ('Excolo'), the record absorbs musical fragments from a number of different backgrounds only to create a genuine kind of tense slack which, although it uses different means, calls to mind the work of Dean Blunt. The result: a coherent synthesis derived from a musical concept which is duty-bound, in equal parts, to disorientation and beauty." --Wolfgang Brauneis (translated by Barbara Oberhofer, MA) Mastered by Rashad Becker. 180 gram vinyl. Cover art direction and design by Tim Berreshiem; Gatefold jackets; Stoughton Printers.

KONSTRUKTIVISTS The Last Moments Of 1923 CD
"Konstruktivists was formed by Glenn Michael Wallis in 1982 out of the ashes of Heute, a kraut rock influenced trio using electronics as well as conventional guitars and bass. Around this time -- in the late 70's/early 80's Glenn Michael Wallis was heavily involved with Throbbing Gristle, the U.K. pioneers of 'Industrial'. The first Konstruktivists vinyl album A Dissembly was issued in 1983. This was quickly followed by their seminal LP Psykho Genetika after signing to the newly-formed Third Mind records. At this point Glenn also moonlighted as a part-time member of Whitehouse -- playing live with them in several countries and participating on their LP Great White Death. The Last Moments Of 1923 is often overlooked as it came out as a cassette only in 1982 on the Flowmotion label. It is in fact though the band's first album and remains until today Glenn Wallis's favourite Konstruktivists recording of all time. It shakes off all Krautrock influences (that came back on A Dissembly) and is a purely electronic composition that is meant to be a soundtrack to the 1923 era of Soviet Russia. A very spaced out, ambient recording that finally sees the light of day on CD. Remastered by Konstruktivists member Mark Crumby for this release."

TAPEWORM VESSEL Twelve Atmospheres CD
"David Janssen is best known for his work as Ted The Loaf in Renaldo & The Loaf. When the band split up in 1987 after The Elbow is Taboo, Janssen took a long break from music until his return in 2006 as The Darkening Scale. After the first two solo albums under this name, he started a new collaboration with Sylvie Walder as The Tapeworm Vessel. This project produced three albums, the first one being Twelve Atmospheres which is now available on CD for the first time. It was originally released in 2008 as a download only and there was also a tiny edition on CDr which was mainly given away to friends. The Tapeworm Vessel sounds very different to The Darkening Scale. Where the latter is a playful continuation of sounds used in Renaldo & The Loaf, The Tapeworm Vessel is a very dark drone masterpiece that reminds us of Organum, Thomas Köner or Jonathan Coleclough. This new edition was remastered in 2018 and has a cover painting by Sylvie Walder and layout by Brian Poole, Janssen's partner in crime in the reactivated Renaldo & The Loaf."

TIETCHENS, ASMUS Linea + CD
"Asmus Tietchens is a sound artist and composer from Hamburg, Germany. He got interested in musique concrete by listening to a German radio programme when he was 10 years old. In 1965, at the age of 18, Asmus started experimenting with tape loops and turned them into musical collages. Soon, the use of synthesizers was added. In 1980 his debut album Nachtstücke was released, produced by Peter Baumann of Tangerine Dream. This was soon followed by a series of albums of electronic pop music for the Sky label, home of many Krautrock bands. Tietchens often uses special source materials for his compositions such as water ('Seuchengebiete'), human voices ('Von Mund zu Mund'), paper ('Papier ist geduldig'). He is associated with the industrial music scene through his collaborations and releases on labels such as United Dairies, Esplendor Geometrico or Dom Records. Tietchens never studied composition, he has no academic background, everything he does is self-taught or learning by doing. Nevertheless, he was professor for sound design in Hamburg in recent years. Linea was originally released on cassette on Dutch Korm Plastics label, later re-issued as a CDR in 1999. It is one of Tietchens's most minimal compositions, and has a special place in our music hearts here at Klanggalerie. For our new edition, Asmus Tietchens has dug deep into his archive and unearthed two further Linea pieces that have so far never seen the light of day. Full running time now 75 minutes. Remastered and repackaged."

THIGHPAULSANDRA The Lepore Extrusion CD
"Born in Pontypridd, South Wales to a musical family, Thighpaulsandra developed an interest in modern classical and electronic music at an early age. Whilst still in school he formed an avant-garde rock group incorporating influences from his admiration for experimental music pioneers John Cage and Karlheinz Stockhausen. Through experiments with his group The Rachel Dennis Sisters he was offered a job in a local recording studio which eventually led to him becoming the manager and house engineer. One of his many clients was former The Teardrop Explodes frontman Julian Cope who, after learning of their mutual appreciation of krautrock and electronics, invited him to join his current group as keyboard player. During Thighpaulsandra's tenure with Cope he garnered the attention of Coil's John Balance. After an introduction via his management, the two became great friends and Thighp was asked to join Coil shortly after. Thighp has also released several solo albums, some of which shift between experimental and rock, others, like The Lepore Extrusion, are drone albums. Originally released through Brainwashed, this album was very hard to find outside the US and soon deleted. For this re-issue, Thighpaulsandra has added a bonus track that wasn't featured on the original release."

SECTION 25 Elektra CD
"Brand new album by the legendary Section 25. The band formed in Blackpool, UK in November 1977. Initially they were a duo, consisting of brothers Larry Cassidy and Vincent Cassidy). In June 1978 they made their live debut with Phil Denton on guitar. Their debut 7", Girls Don't Count, was released in July 1980 on Factory Records, produced by Ian Curtis and Rob Gretton of Joy Division. Joined by percussionist Lee Shallcross, Section 25 gradually evolved with a more electronic-dance direction from 1983 onwards, a process which culminated in the album From the Hip and remix single 'Looking From A Hilltop', both released in 1984 and produced by Bernard Sumner of New Order. This second iteration of the band also featured the Cassidy brothers' sister Angela Flowers and Larry Cassidy's wife Jenny Ross. In 1986 Section 25 fell silent for more than a decade, and reemerged with the album Part Primitiv in 2006. On 27 February 2010, it was announced that founding member, singer, and bass player for the group, Larry Cassidy, had died at the age of 56. Today, Section 25 consist of Vin Cassidy, Bethany Cassidy (Larry's daughter), Jo Cassidy, Michael Cassidy and long-time collaborator Steven Stringer. This line-up recorded Elektra in 2018 with guest guitar by the band's original guitarist Paul Wiggin. It is pure SXXV, without any outside influences."

FEHLMANN, THOMAS Los Lagos CD
Los Lagos is Thomas Fehlmann's seventh solo full-length, and his fourth for Kompakt following his Berlin-inspired 2010 album Gute Luft (KOMP 081CD/211LP). In the musician's own words, it's about "checking the juice". Establishing a picture of his current artistic condition, as suggested by the title -- (Los Lagos literally translates to "the lakes" but takes the meaning of "wassup" in the context of a relaxed discussion between friends), the album refers to Fehlmann's motivations of late. It is, he says, a way to "allow myself to techno, as a means to deconstruction and rebuilding. Set up an area of tension, then lose it in the flow of the grooves, magnifying some details out of proportion, regrouping around those and slowly knitting a texture." This the decision Thomas Fehlmann has made. At 61, he is a longstanding member of The Orb, a multi-talented composer and a boundless experimentalist. In the twilight of his collaboration with Alex Paterson, he was eager to taste the flavors of the unknown again. As goes with that essential love of his for the free-flowing nature of electronic music, this is a fascination born out of its "lack of borders", capable of "inventing, changing the emphasis, and experimenting with an unpredictable outcome"; Los Lagos "freely connects disparate extremes. Art, disco, minimalism, schmalz, jazz and funk; as he likes to say, Fehlmann's head functions as a sampler, capturing elements and re-assembling them under his own embracing perspective. He is not afraid to leap from a deep, dubbed-out hypnotism to the playfulness of '90s-style bleepy schaffel, such as on "Tempelhof", which features a guest spot from Max Loderbauer. There are also out-there, muscle-flexing dancefloor cuts and the calmness of the ambient. In need of keeping his inner balance in check, Fehlmann committed himself to following his intuition, which isn't so much of an easy process as he also wanted to incorporate the disturbances which he has experienced. "It's a complex process of search and destroy to bring out a new beauty to expand my vocabulary". Fehlmann looked at finding "the structure that's surprising, disturbing, and rewarding". The artwork for the record, courtesy of Albert Oehlen echoes the producer's "funky use of shape and space" like a second skin. To wit, Los Lagos is a search for light and harmony that Fehlmann sums up simply as the answer to the question, "Does your inner musical voice respond?"

JAAR, NICOLAS Pomegranates 2LP
"Mana is pleased to finally present Pomegranates by Nicolas Jaar as a double LP, with new mastering by D&M. The sleeve is designed by David Rudnick, with labels by Ste?phane Jourdan and a new insert created by Jaar collaborator and friend Maziyar Pahlevan. Longer and slower-releasing than his other albums, Pomegranates often parallels the cinematic epic on which it's based (???? ??????), with ideas pursued over long timelines and across dark landscapes, assembling elements and moods from the aesthetic and folkloric landscapes of Armenia. Jaar's identity is perceived within this, folding in his heritage as Palestinian and Chilean as he attempts to build a musical architecture outwards that frames as much of the mess and sprawl of life as possible; using a language that investigates the movement and fluctuation of his own artistic career and character similarly to the film's tracing of the coming of age of the young poet, Sayat-Nova. At times, Pomegranates feels profoundly intimate, as though looking through the archive of a friend's music and discovering the accent and common currency that lives within each of these tracks. Much of Jaar's most elegant and touching melodic work is nestled here, its power residing in its simplicity and willingness to speak to the heart and not the mind of the listener. In the text document included in the first freely distributed version of the album in 2015, Jaar writes that the album was conceived during a moment of change, and that the pomegranate became an icon that heralded that passage of time. The physical publication of Pomegranates closes one door whilst opening another, keeping promises and marking a significant point in the career of an artist who restlessly reinvents himself, with a document that illustrates a common language of lyricism, freedom, and emotional resonance that links his many paths and projects."

KLEENEX/LILIPUT First Songs 2LP
2018 repress. "Legendary Swiss punk band from the late '70s. 'You can't dispute Liliput's status as pioneers of feminist art-punk. Along with fellow travelers like The Slits and The Raincoats, this (mostly) female Swiss group took advantage of punk's anything-goes attitude and created jittery, spirited pop that was both in step with the times and completely singular. The early material is a riot of exuberant energy, taking stylistic cues from peers like Gang Of Four and Wire -- propulsive bass, skittering pop rhythms, slashing guitars -- and adding distinctive overlapping vocal patterns, which are sung, shrieked, and hiccuped in three languages and made-up dada slang. More than 20 years on, it still sounds fresh.' --Lisa Gidley. All material has been previously released as Liliput on Kill Rock Stars as a double CD, and a 4 LP box set on Mississippi Records, 1977 1983.First Songs combines all the pre-1982 material. SPIRIT FEST Anohito CD
Flowing and brimming with life, Anohito, the second album by indie supergroup Spirit Fest, has come ashore. The group is comprised of Tokyo-based duo Tenniscoats (Saya and Takashi Ueno), Markus Acher (The Notwist, Rayon), Cico Beck (Aloa Input, The Notwist), and Mat Fowler (Jam Money, Bons). Crossing boundaries geographically and musically, each member contributes rich experiences in collaboration. But experience can be a tricky friend to navigate, often leaving musicians trapped in their comfort zones. However, Spirit Fest embodies the idea of perpetual motion. Ever-changing and keeping their music alive, the singular souls of Spirit Fest have been drawn together a second time. In the wake of releasing their first record, the group embarked on a European tour where they found their own distinct character and collective voice. From this shared experience, new songs and recordings followed, encompassing Anohito (Japanese for "that person"). The first two album tracks were constructed on a day off in London. The triumphant opener, "Anohito (Till The Gate)", an extraordinary minor key title track, sets the tone of the record; Saya's tender voice and the shimmering, delayed guitars and zither reach delicate and pastoral heights. The loopy folktronica of "Fête De Départ" continues to preserve the pace of the album perfectly. Spirit Fest recorded the remainder of Anohito at Markus's home in Munich. Only Mat operated from London, contributing additional recordings in the form of a tape exchange. These begin with the collective lament of "Yuri's Zahn", followed by Markus's evocative banjo pop "Look At The Colours" and the twisted Raymond Scott/Dick Hyman-ish wonk of "Ueno The Future". The album draws to a close with "Takeda No Komoriuta" ("Lullaby Of Takeda"), a beautiful cover of a dark Japanese traditional, followed by the instrumental track "Bye Bye" -- a perfect collage to close and document this rich and playful collaboration by highly imaginative and ego-free musicians. CD version comes in a digipak.

"Triplex" closes things in atmospheric fashion, building out of a hypnotic hook and dark, brooding pads.

VA The Exorcist CD
"Perseverance Records is proud to announce the reissue of the soundtrack to The Exorcist, one of horror's best and most frightening films of all time. This is another release straight from the Warner/Elektra/Atlantic vaults -- remastered. Back in 1973, not only was this film released during the Christmas holiday season, it freaked out audiences like nothing that came before (well, maybe Night of the Living Dead!). For many audiences seeing Linda Blair make obscene gestures to Father Karras and puking green stuff, it was a shock and something not seen that often in movies around that time. One thing everybody remembers about the film is Mike Oldfield's 'Tubular Bells'. Also featured on the soundtrack are classical pieces by Krysztof Penderecki, Anton Webern and Hans Werner Henze. This was remastered by Warner Bros Records for release by our label. It sounds excellent like all of our previous Warner reissues. 'We tried and did not convince the label to let us include Lalo Schifrin's score. Warner wanted us to release the original LP (and later Japanese import CD version). However, we thought that most people would prefer the Tubular Bells version, as that one had been out of print for quite some time.' As usual, we want these to be reasonably priced for collectors who missed out as well as the non-collector who saw the movie and loved the music. There will only be 3,000 copies manufactured. We will not make any more after we reach that total.' We used the original LP art. As with all of our reissues from Warner, please remember we price these to be reasonable so that collectors can get a good, remastered edition of this wonderful music to enjoy. This keeps the prices reasonable so that nobody has to pay exorbitant amounts on Ebay or Amazon Marketplace. Enjoy!'"

CJA Sido Not Dead LP
As reported by Campbell Kneale (Birchville Cat Motel, Our Love Will Destroy The World, C-Psi-P): "I narrowly avoided an English-second-language tete-a-tete in Belgium once when I refused to believe in the face of all evidence that Sunn O)))'s newly released Flight Of The Behemoth (2012) was not CJA. I was wrong, but whatever... I was already ascending Lucifer's path to the stars not garbed in chic grim-robes but a pilling homespun jersey that stunk of wet dog. I confess and repent... for me, all 'this kinda music' was an exercise in deftly crafted slovenliness and anonymous surface texture, but in spending time with a tape simply labeled Sido Not Dead I was struck dumb with the burning religious fervor of real people who had truly forgotten to give a fuck and at that very moment unto me was bestowed a mighty vision of two-bar heaters, worn cream carpet, mooching about in slippers with cups of budget herbal tea. A long winter weekend that passed too close to a tape recorder and whose glacial momentum had accidentally combed the little magnetic thingies on the cassette into recognizable geometric shapes. This was my (unwashed) fork in the road: facile, nihilistic, too lazy to make it to the letterbox, yet enlightened, enlivened, ascended, eternal... blangblangblang... GRONGGRONG... blangblangblang... GRONGGRONG... Fellow pilgrims and travellers to furthest inner outposts... herein lies your scripture." Silkscreened sleeve; Edition of 200.

Matt Middleton (Crude, The Aesthetics, Dirtlove): "The Futurians are a band that have soul. Their music, a pulsating, minimalist, primitivist, machinistic monster of a thing is at once fiction and fantasy, at once politics and hyper-reality. Theirs is an approach synthesizing elements of no-wave, new-wave, synth-rock, drone rock, doom rock, kraut-rock, Dunedin dirge, robot rock, riot grrllism, and calculator punk." Brad Rose: "Clayton Noone and his posse of Duckling Monster, ISO12, Rocko Mandroid, and Krauss have enough energy to light a small town for a year. Have enough energy to light a small town for a year." Full-color sleeve; Edition of 200.

EINSTURZENDE NEUBAUTEN Grundstück LP/DVD
Gatefold LP version with DVD. With Grundstück, a real rarity is being released on the commercial market for the first time: Originally issued in 2005 as a small limited edition, the much sought-after album is now officially available as a CD and also for the first time ever as an LP, each including a DVD with previously unpublished film recordings of the project and an extensive booklet. With their noise-laden anti-pop, Einstürzende Neubauten has established itself as one of the most radical, unpredictable and unconventional avant-garde bands in the popular music scene. Looking back to the year 2002: To make itself independent of the record industry and keep full artistic control, the band became early pioneers of crowdfunding with an internet-based fan action for the financing of their next album, which came to be known as the supporter project. An interim work consciously conserved in its unfinished condition, Grundstück is the missing link between 2004's Perpetuum Mobile and 2007's Alles wieder offen. Grundstück represents what the album title asserts: One's own lot. Aside from material that was produced in the band's own Berlin studio, some parts of Grundstück were played live while on tour, matching the experimental character of the project's genesis: In addition to Blixa Bargeld, Alexander Hacke, N. U. Unruh, Jochen Arbeit, Rudolf Moser and Ash Wednesday, a 100-member choir made up of supporters can be heard. Grundstück opens with the noisy and propelling "Good Morning Everybody," based on engine sounds of air compressors and accompanied by rhythmic steel plate beats. The seven-part title track shapes its core, which in its atonal experimental spirit represents the non-conformism and nihilism that the name Einstürzende Neubauten stands for to this day. Closely connected to the album, an accompanying DVD was also produced with the help of a supporter. It was filmed on November 3, 2004, during a special supporter gig at East Berlin's Palast der Republik; the earlier political apparatus of the former GDR state leadership. Exclusive live recordings were made at a historical location, which was torn down shortly thereafter to make way for a demonstration of the power of the freshly reunited Federal Republic of Germany. Einstürzende Neubauten in the gutted control center of a collapsed state -- a witness of the times with the greatest possible symbolic value: Einsturz (collapsing), Neubau (rebuilding), Grundstück (lot). DVD is NTSC all-region format.

To the untutored listener, hearing DJ Marfox for the first time might cause the same initial frisson as juke, or at least that was the case for me. You wonder: what the hell is this stuff? Powered by a snaking square bass line, layers of classic, UK-sounding bleeps, explosive FX and possessed vocal stabs seethe and syncopate in a slab of pure dancefloor turmoil. Lock this in at the right moment and heads will be gone; trust us! Flipside the tempo is pushed up for 'Chunk Hiss'. Lysergic seagulls shit from above while pensive synths build tension, precipitating a mighty, Tom-powered house groove losing its mind to tweaking, wavy synthlines. BLEGVAD, PETER The Peter Blegvad Bandbox 6CD BOX
"ReR released the first Peter Blegvad Trio LP in 1988 and since then there's been a new one along about every 10 years, the latest adding Karen Mantler and Bob Drake, so it's a quintet now. In between, the trio toured Europe, America and Japan, did various projects and mounted a music-theatre performance. 30 years in, it seemed timely to collect everything together, add unreleased materials from concert recordings and out-takes, and write a fat illustrated book to tell the story so far. This box does that. In addition to the original releases, now re-mastered by Bob Drake and comprehensively repackaged, there are two full CDs of unreleased materials -- and the book. That's 72 pages of documentation, recollections, reactions, insights and testimony - alongside priceless drawings and photographs, and all presented in a beautiful sturdy box. Peter's songs have been covered (amongst others) by The Fall and Loudon Wainwright III -- and have featured in movies. With additional help from B. J. Cole, Adam Philips, Eddie Reader, Loudon Wainwright III, Syd Straw, Phil Shaw, Geraint Watkins, Stoffer Blegvad and Jakko Jakszyk."

RAVENSTINE, ALLEN Waiting For The Bomb LP
'"Eccentricity in music is tricky in that it's difficult to embrace it in moderation. There's risk of having it come off as either overly (and gratingly) deliberate, or teetering over the precipice into full-blown novelty. Pere Ubu co-founder Allen Ravenstine's Waiting For The Bomb is one of these rare exceptions where peculiarity, nuance and genuine warmth align in such a way that it's perched right on that edge and all the more evocative because of it. One of the album's most striking and disorienting attributes is its wide and volatile sound palette. Structured episodically, its eighteen vignettes jump between discrete sonic worlds. Dense clusters of raw sci-fi synth noise sit up against soundtracky miniatures while elsewhere, placid ambience emerges from stiff computer funk. Yet as one surrenders to the strange lurching quality of the journey, the uneasiness it produces somehow becomes grounding. Given Ravenstine's post-punk pedigree, it's unsurprising that this defiant sense of malaise and contradiction isn't just a byproduct of his playful genre tourism. It's actually a key unifying element that even lurks on the periphery of the album's most serene or seemingly innocuous moments. You can hear it in the way that the plasticky squareness of his sample-library orchestrations chafe against live brass and percussion on 'Spirits'. The prickly synthesizer on 'Venus Calling' creeps like toxic fumes through a genteel jazz arrangement. On 'Insomnia' Joe Sorbara's rapid drum kit scatterings punctuate a lugubrious throbbing bed of sound, yet as the ersatz fanfares begin to protrude you're not quite sure whether to be terrified or to laugh--or do both. The record's accompanying notes mention Ravenstine's childhood, steeped in second-hand Cold War paranoia. Waiting for the Bomb seems to embody that tension perfectly: a young, unbridled imagination haunted by both the grave threat, and perverse futuristic allure of total annihilation.' --Nick Storring"

30/70 Elevate LP
2018 repress. Working closely with Paul Bender of Hiatus Kaiyote and Jamil Zacharia, 30/70 produce their new record, Elevate. Elevate is a sublime statement; at once a cry for help and a call to arms, it balances delicate poetry and potent aggression with ease, all of this done with a beguiling pop sensibility. This collection of songs, their second studio effort after their debut, Cold Radish Coma (2015), is set to elevate 30/70 to the international stage. 30/70 is a cosmic mélange of boom-bap dynamics, neo-soul harmonies and jazz-funk licks, all steeped in a deep spiritual tradition, reaching from Alice Coltrane to Kamasi Washington. Melbourne's relative isolation could in fact be a blessing in disguise; it's resulted in a pressure cooker of talent; a tight-knit, well-practiced network of musicians and 30/70 are leading the pack. The band came of age in the wake of Melbourne's soul scene hitting global success, a local phenomenon which shone a light on the Northside community and paved the way for a new generation of bands to take this sound and make it their own. Lovingly referred to as a community rather than a band, 30/70 is, at its core, a quintet made up of Allysha Joy, Ziggy Zeitgeist, Horatio Luna, Thhomas, and Chaser, swelling to a nine-piece ensemble when the music calls for it. Forever delivering their signature hypnotic groove, 30/70 are ready to take their message from Northcote to the world.

Australian group Retiree return to Rhythm Section International in 2018 with a new record House Or Home. The musical project of Matt Crowley, Tori Holleman, and Marco Vella; Retiree have steadily congealed their broad influences into a unique emulsion of strongly rhythmic and emotional music. From two releases, they've been described as "pared back 1980s comfort pop for all occasions", having "a whole lot of criss-crossing rhythm", containing "swirling synth flourishes, languid wistful vocals and strutting drum machines". The album's songs explore the theme of "house or home" and what that means in present day Australia for different people. They journey from an aboriginal tent embassy on the south coast of New South Wales, a retirement village, a one room flat in Ringwood and a sleepless 17-hour stop over in Malaysia. SELS, JACK Minor Works 2CD
Jack the hipster. A musician's musician. The white negro from the docks. Jack Sels has been given many nicknames throughout the years. The Antwerp saxophone player who died at the mere age of 48 in 1970, remains Belgium's most mythical jazz musician, both to those who knew him during his lifetime and those who only know him from the stories -- and there are quite some stories to be told about Jack Sels. Throughout his career, he would play with jazz legends such as Dizzy Gillespie, Lester Young, Lou Bennett, and Lucky Thompson, but he remained virtually unknown outside Belgium due to his reluctance to leave Antwerp. Almost fifty years after his death, Jack Sels remains Belgium's most intriguing jazz musician. Partly due to his limited discography, he is overlooked by a wider audience. Yet, his contribution to the development of the modern jazz scene in Belgium cannot be overestimated, and neither can his influence on his fellow musicians, to whom he was the embodiment of jazz. As vibraphone player Fats Sadi once said: "I loved Jack. He had never studied music and didn't have the least bit of technique. But if Jack played, the gates of heaven opened. Jack was more jazz than jazz itself." Minor Works is a collection of rare, previously unreleased studio and live recordings paying homage to the life and jazz of the enigmatic musician. DE VEGA, MARIO 38 LP
"An immersion into classics. That kind of classics which holds in his pantheon Pierre Henri and Pierre Schaeffer, even though I should maybe refer to Michel Chion, given the powerful dramatic intensity displayed by these two compositions. Mario De Vega has once again proved himself a master at mixing in his works all of the elements that make me love electro-acoustic music so much. The unpredictability of the sound sources, some sort of spectral musicality, and the sudden moves; those compositional jumps that drag you from one space to another, from a world which you've just settled into, to another one, totally unknown, sometimes frightening, sometimes simply disorientating. There are also many moments of delicacy in these 27 minutes, and I find the punk aura that lingers over every turning point so fascinating, reminding of the early works of Valerio Tricoli, so volcanic and unpredictable, and yet so controlled. Mario De Vega's sure is a very personal work that displays enormous respect for the history and the classic narrations of experimental and concrete music, without losing anchor with the present." --Claudio Rocchetti Edition of 200.

"New record from Darksmith years away from the previous... well, it is not easy to talk about the records of Tom, even if this difficulty, on the borders with the impossibility, validates the complete success of his work. We are not dealing with an abstract thing, reality is omnipresent in these furrows... yet it manages to escape any attempt at semantic classification and makes even impossible the definition of an emotional tonality; rather the listening leads back to places of the familiar insignificance in which life is immersed. The two sides are both tripartite, perhaps less messed up than usual, with the usual limping of difficultly identifiable sounds, phantom appearances of music, deteriorated, elsewhere." --Francesco Tignola Edition of 200.

ANKERSMIT, THOMAS Homage To Dick Raaijmakers CD
Thomas Ankersmit's new album for Shelter Press Homage To Dick Raaijmakers is an all-analog electronic music composition inspired by legendary Dutch composer/electronic and tape music pioneer and multimedia artist, Dick Raaijmakers (1930-2013). The work takes inspiration from Raaijmakers's music from the 1960s, his texts on sound composition like "Cahier M", and notes on his own music. On this recording, Ankersmit plays Serge Modular feedback and sine/pulse/random generators, contact mic, and tape speed variation; mirroring some of Raaijmakers's work, Ankersmit plays his Serge synthesizer as a kind of weather system. He references storms, thunder, crashing and falling objects, and distant radio transmissions in his electronic sounds, as well as dragging a contact mic across his equipment. Despite the abstract nature of the material, a sense of loss or mourning sometimes emerges from the music. With his homage Ankersmit re-contextualizes Raaijmakers's ideas about electric sound, composition, and spatial experience. Like Raaijmakers himself Ankersmit exclusively uses analog devices, such as sine/pulse/random generators, modulators, filters, and especially feedback processes between them. The music focuses on the sounds of raw electricity through creatively abused electronics, composing with analog micro-sounds, and the creation of three-dimensional sound fields. The piece also uses tones produced by the listener's own ears, inspired by Raaijmakers's thoughts on "holophonic" sound fields to be individually explored by the listener. With this phenomenon, the listener's inner ears actively generate sounds that don't exist in the recorded signal, and which can change with a small movement of the head. Homage To Dick Raaijmakers was commissioned by Sonic Acts and was premiered live at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam in February 2016. Ankersmit also dedicates the work to his father Thijl Ankersmit (1947-2016), who first demonstrated feedback to him. Mastered and cut by Rashad Becker.

COHEN-SOLAL, JEAN Flutes Libres LP
Souffle Continu Records present the first ever reissue of Jean Cohen-Solal's Flûtes Libres, originally released in 1972. In a dreamlike fictive and windswept Brittany, hippy pirates and wild women more or less inspired by Gérard de Nerval fight it out in a theater, the magic of which brings to mind Cocteau, and where musical improvisation has an important role: this is Noroît, a cursed film which was never released in cinemas at the time (1976), directed by the great Jacques Rivette, where Jean-Cohen-Solal, his brother Robert and Daniel Ponsard can be seen and heard playing. The scene is every bit as inventive as that featuring the Art Ensemble Of Chicago in Les Stances à Sophie (1971). The same magic and invention can be found on this first album by Jean Cohen-Solal: Flûtes Libres. A magic which can be keenly felt on "Quelqu'un", a long contemplative mantra which takes up the whole of the B side and which anticipates the future collaboration in the mysterious universe of Jacques Rivette. Jean Cohen-Solal studied flute from all angles, and became one of the great French virtuosi, along with Michel Edelin who at the time was with Triode. This was a period (1972) when flutists were very popular with the public, most of whom had been influenced by Roland Kirk, including Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull. Whereas Jean Cohen-Solal tells a different story, richer and centered on the instrument itself, using the magic (yes, that again) of overdubs. Perhaps Paul Horn rather than Roland Kirk could be an influence but stripped of a classical background which was too audible and a tendency for easy listening. In fact, in terms of comparison, "open music" by Bob Downes would be the closest to the electroacoustic experiments of Jean Cohen-Solal, who, by the way, was also close to the GRM and Bernard Parmegiani for whom he occasionally provided sound sources. These are the qualities which probably explain why Flûtes Libres figures (and justifiably) on the famous Nurse With Wound list. Licensed from Jean Cohen-Solal. Includes eight-page booklet. Highlighter yellow vinyl; Obi strip; Edition of 700.

HEAVEE WFM LP
Heavee's eight-track album WFM features new collaborations with DJ Phil, Gantman, DJ Paypal, and Sirr Tmo, and a previously unreleased classic from 2013, co-written with DJ Rashad. The first thing that jumps out is Heavee's masterful use of synthesizers and sound design. You get the sense that these elements have been lovingly crafted during countless hours of sonic experimentation and invention in the studio. The primary focus on synths represents a departure from his usual creative process. Heavee has made a conscious decision to challenge himself, adopting a different approach to his past productions. In doing so, he moves away from the familiar sampling techniques which characterized his earlier work: "I am a child of the last days of ghetto house culture as it shifted into juke/footwork. My parents, aunties, and uncles played house and ghetto house music at family functions, BBQs, and house parties. That's my roots and where I came from. However, on this record, I chose to stray away from vocal samples, to give myself room to grow in different areas." Heavee finds his voice in emphatic fashion on "Cloud Ride" DJ Phil. His lyrical content and flow are on point as the track flips seamlessly from hip hop to footwork and back again. DJ Phil features on three tracks in total, a reflection of Heavee and Phil's close friendship and musical connection. "It's Wack" is a classic collaboration with DJ Rashad that still sounds fresh today. Heavee remembers how Rashad would always stay connected: "We'd get calls no matter where he was. We would talk about everything! He ALWAYS had new info; what new music was popping, scenes that were really accepting or supportive of what we were doing, blends that made the party go off, sites, adventures and just fuel us with support from him and give us living proof of the global support that was to come and the journey that was ahead of us." Although Heavee makes music with the dancefloor firmly in mind, the sheer quality of his music transcends that space. So sit back and enjoy the next chapter in the Teklife story.

PHASE Suspended Animation 12"
Phase presents two striking, no-nonsense techno cuts for Token with Suspended Animation. Each side of Suspended Animation delivers the special kind of face-melter that manages to remain sincere without being overly self-serious. "Stroke B" favors the sensational approach, with a bright and playful lead playing against a hi-hat frenzy in the breakdown. "Stroke C" is more introverted on surface level, but offers pure chaos instead from its depth.

GORGUN, IPEK Ecce Homo CD
Ipek Gorgun's Ecce Homo explores the lighter and darker shades of the human psyche, behavior, and existence, and humanity's ability to create beauty and destruction. What lies in the essence of such complexity has become a core idea for the album, while Gorgun seeks to figure out if there is a true meaning to being human, and human being. Starting with "Neroli" as a human fascination with nature and finalizing with "To Cross Great Rivers"; a never-ending, hopeless dream of the mankind to conquer and control the world, the album reflects the contemplations of a spectator being exposed to the human civilization, and witnessing human activity, including his/her own. Trying to acquire a glimpse of the multiple layers of such narrative, the sound of the album aims to present a diversity of the sonic spectrum, with tracks varying between ambient and noisy landscapes. Ipek Gorgun is an electronic music composer currently enrolled in the doctoral program of Sonic Arts at Istanbul Technical University's Center for Advanced Studies in Music. After graduating from Bilkent University with a degree in political science, she completed her Master's degree studies in philosophy at Galatasaray University. As a bass player and vocalist for projects and bands such as Bedroomdrunk and Vector Hugo between 2001-2013, she also performed in an opening gig for Jennifer Finch from L7 and Simon Scott from Slowdive, as well as performing live with David Brown from Brazzaville. Besides group projects and solo performances, she also composed the soundtrack for the documentary Yok Anasinin Soyadi (Mrs. His Name) directed by Hande Cayir in 2012, portraying Turkish women's struggle for keeping their original surnames after marriage. Her debut album Aphelion was self-released in February, 2016. In 2017, she released a collaborative album from Halocline Trance, with Canadian producer Ceramic TL (aka Egyptrixx) entitled Perfect Lung (HTRA 007LP). Ipek Gorgun also practices performance, street, and abstract photography.

NECROFILIA Sein Zum Tode LP
Urashima present a reissue of Necrofilia's Sein Zum Tode, originally released in 1997. In the early nineties, Slaughter Productions released two masterpieces of Atrax Morgue with Necro-sintesi (1993) and Necrophiliac Experience (1994), both splits with Lunus, the noise project of Devis Granziera and a very close friend of Marco Corbelli, aka Atrax Morgue. This partnership is only the prelude to what will happen a few years later. In 1996 Marco Corbelli and Devis Granziera decided to resume a bizarre project by Devis Granziera called Nekrophilia. After two years of work -- the two changing the name of the project to Necrofilia -- comes the result of their collaboration titled Sein Zum Tode (1990), out on tape again for Slaughter Productions. The tape is brutal -- harsh tones that cut through the air with manic male agonizing voice moving into a lyrical attack. Each track contains hypnotic storm of sounds with dense noise pattern that bangs it into your head. Reprinted for the first time on LP and remastered from the original tape. 140 gram vinyl; Comes in a deluxe silver silkscreen on black cardboard; Black label and black inner sleeve; Edition of 199.

ATRAX MORGUE Cut My Throat LP+CD
Urashima present a reissue of Atrax Morgue's Cut My Throat, originally released in 1995. Atrax Morgue is anxious and psychotic side of the power electronics and industrial music. With the help of an analog synth, Marco Corbelli blows up emotions and delusions, cutting out the hard way inspired portraits of phobias and deviations. Cut My Throat is recorded straight off and in a day. The first CD of the artist contains two paths based on typical analog drones that characterize all the first production of Atrax Morgue. The tracks on here are monolithic machines of industrial death that are portrayed in lovingly grating and rasping detail, with engines of soul rapine and pulsating contraptions eager to slice their way through soft flesh. The putrescence is tangible, and one could almost smell and taste the miasma of decay that pervades the entire vinyl. A seminal power electronics masterpiece for this unforgotten cult artist. Reprinted for the first time on LP. Includes bonus CD with all the LP tracks, plus all tracks from Atrax Morgue's Homicidal Texture tape (1995). 140 gram vinyl; Comes in a deluxe silver silkscreen on black cardboard; Black label and black inner sleeve; Includes an insert and a poster; Edition of 199.

RITA, THE Toe Cleavage 7xCASSETTE BOX
With his flagship project, The Rita, Sam McKinlay has, for nearly two decades, explored and distilled into sound various permutations of fetish and vice. Recognized as the creator of wall noise, McKinlay's conceptual intent and the singular intensity of his focus established something novel and profound. McKinlay's compulsive reverence for noise is a fetish of sound. Frequently, McKinlay utilizes field recordings and other sounds sourced from the objects of interest before encrypting them in an opaque shell of noise. Listening to McKinlay's recordings, it's often difficult to determine whether one actually hears the sounds of the source material or if the power of suggestion is so strong that the listener extracts phantom sounds. In recent years, McKinlay has increasingly focused on the female form, particularly the modes of body augmentation that define classical femininity, such as make up, nylon stockings, etc. The progression of this focus culminated with the most archetypal projection of femininity in Western Culture: the ballerina, her feet, and her pointe shoes. The foot of a woman has long been identified as the most common source of unusual sexual preoccupation. Toe Cleavage is the most comprehensive expression of McKinlay's recent endeavors. For the uninitiated, the term "toe cleavage" refers to the display of the upper portions of toes in low cut shoes -- an essential detail for many shoe designers. Across the seven tapes in this set, McKinlay, through his music, dissects, indulges, illustrates, and worships the feminine foot. To that end, McKinlay worked with Los Angeles based visual artist Olivia Burr and recording artist Kristin Hayter (Lingua Ignota). In addition to photographic contributions, Burr and Hayter provided much of the source material for McKinlay including: dance studio floor recordings; contact mic'd ballet shoes; and the repeated unboxing, unwrapping, trying on, walking in, and re-boxing of various designer shoes (Valentino, Miu Miu, etc.). Adding depth to the overall experience, McKinlay interspersed interludes throughout the recordings featuring audio samples derived from discussions and tutorials about pointe shoes, toe cleavage, and various designer ballet flat and stiletto reviews. This set of recordings is arguably McKinlay's most focused and obsessive effort to date and perfectly embodies the cultivated stylistic traits that have defined his work through the years. Seven-tape set come in a wooden box with a 16-page book, a colored poster, an insert drawn by Sam McKinlay in Ivory paper, and a sheet with notes. Edition of 99 (hand-numbered).

ATRAX MORGUE Black Box 4CD BOX
Marco Corbelli's artistic journey began in the early '90s. Under the pseudonym of Marco Rotula, he started to release a series of fanzines in A5 format. The first was The Pleasure Agony, followed by Sick and Murders. The aesthetics of these first fanzines were very sophisticated and the content deals with topics that will follow Marco Corbelli throughout his artistic career: sadism, schizophrenia, insanity, murder, psychosis, necrophilia, diseases, and most importantly death. In 1993, heavily influenced by his obsessions, Marco Corbelli began his musical activities creating the Slaughter Productions label and the Atrax Morgue project. Greatly inspired by Italian power electronics act The Sodality, with their 1987 LP Beyond Unknown Pleasures and from projects such as Whitehouse and Brighter Death Now, pioneers of a minimal, evil, and visceral electronic, Atrax Morgue released his first tape In Search Of Death (1993) which was followed by a series of amazing cassettes in the following years. Tape after tape, with the help of an analog synthesizer Sequential Circuits Six-Trak, a microphone connected with a multi-effect, tape decks, and a mixer, Marco Corbelli blows up emotions and delusions, cutting out the hard way inspired portraits of phobias and deviation. The main manifesto of Atrax Morgue is the analysis of the death, his perfection and complete habituation: injections of death to continue to live. The putrescence is palpable, and one could almost smell and taste the miasma of decay that pervades the entire box. Anxiety, alienation, and hypochondria turn into a deep paranoia in pain. Without hesitation, the bodies are emptied, leaving the field to an electronics purulence of rare power disconcerting. The psychopathological sound is white, painful, and horrific; it creates a mental alteration that initiates brutal operation of psychic surgery, neuroses, and split personality. The hum of the synth, the roar of noise and razor are often repeated loops, where each track has a compact structure, following the main theme (of death). Urashima continue the tribute to the degenerate art of Atrax Morgue with an astonishing black wooden box with four CDs that include reissue of nine terrific titles: Black Slaughter (1993), Necro-sintesi (1993), Basic Autopsy Procedure (1995), Necrophiliac Experience (1994), New York Ripper (1994), Lesion 22 (1996), Spasmosynthetics (1997), Cut My Throat (1996), Homicidal Texture (1996). Each CD comes in a cardboard wallet with credits and new artwork; Edition of 199 (numbered).

WILKINS, JACK Windows LP
Wewantsounds present the first ever reissue Jack Wilkins's highly sought-after Mainstream Records album Windows, originally released in 1973. Produced by Bob Shad, the album, which is on many want-lists, is especially cult for his rendition of Freddie Hubbard's classic "Red Clay", notably sampled by A Tribe Called Quest (on "Sucka Nigga") and Chance The Rapper. Recorded in 1973 at New York's Record Plant, this superb session sees guitarist Jack Wilkins in a trio setting accompanied by Mike Moore on bass and young seasoned west coast drummer Bill Goodwin (Gabor Szabo, Gary Burton, Paul Horn, Tom Waits). Together, the trio plays mix of classics including John Coltrane's "Naima", Wayne Shorter's "Pinocchio", and Chick Corea's "Windows", showcasing their instant rapport. Jack Wilkins is an underrated guitarist; he's accompanied such stars as Stanley Turrentine, Ray Charles, Sarah Vaughan, and Sammy Davis Jr. but he has remained more of a musician's musician. Windows has reached cult status for the fact that its slow funk version of Freddie Hubbard's "Red Clay" has been sampled by A Tribe Called Quest for "Sucka Nigga" from their masterpiece Midnight Marauders (1993). ATCQ's jazz samples have always garnered a huge amount of attention from DJs and hip-hop fans and this one has had an instant effect on Windows's popularity, making it one of the most sought-after albums released on Mainstream. Chance the Rapper has also sampled "Red Clay", in the song "Nana" which featured on his second mixtape, Acid Rap (2013). This reissue is thus a great opportunity to (re)discover a great guitarist. Comes in gatefold sleeve featuring never-seen session photos and new liner notes by leading UK journalist, Kevin Le Gendre (Jazzwise, Echoes, BBC's Jazz Line Up).

PARMEGIANI, BERNARD Les Soleils De L'ile De Paques / La Brulure De Mille Soleils CD
WRWTFWW Records announce the release of two never-released-before soundtracks by French award-winning composer, audio experimenter, electroacoustic, and musique concrète magician, and all-around sound visionary Bernard Parmegiani, sourced from the original reels, and with English and French liner notes. Les Soleils De l'Île De Pâques (1972), by French director Pierre Kast, is a sci-fi feature which secured itself a well-deserved place in the pantheon of mysterious cult films thanks to hallucinatory (and superb) cinematography, exploration of supernatural phenomenon and occult symbolism, and one hell of a trippy atmosphere. La Brûlure De Mille Soleils (1965) also comes from Pierre Kast, but this time with the help of none other than writer, photographer, multimedia artist, homme à tout faire Chris Marker -- notably known for films La Jetée (1962), A Grin Without a Cat (1977), and Sans Soleil (1983) -- who edited this bizarre short to brain-melting results that live up to the promises of its synopsis: A depressed millionaire poet, accompanied by his cat Marcel and a sign language robot, travels in time to shake a persistent feeling of ennui and falls hopelessly in love with a woman from another planet. 'Nuff said! A renowned member of the prestigious GRM (Groupe De Recherches Musicales, the French equivalent of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop) and frequent collaborator of Pierre Schaeffer, Iannis Xenakis, and Pierre Henry, among others, Bernard Parmegiani does what he does best with these two rare soundtracks: create moods with electroacoustic experimentation, elevating the weird and hypnotic with soundscapes from other dimensions, and cementing his status as a true innovator. CD version comes in an all-in-one digipack.
