ORCHESTRE ABASS Orchestre Abass (De Bassari Togo) LP
In 1972, Orchestre Abass released two incredible singles on Polydor. These records -- featuring "Samarin Banza", "Haka Dunia", and other Afro-funk masterpieces -- were powerful enough to knock any music head out, but it wasn't until the discovery of some unreleased material by the band that the seeds for this project were planted. It all happened in 2008 in Ghana. Analog Africa head Samy Ben Redjeb was going through some tapes that had previously been the property of Polygram, one of the major record companies based in west Africa. In the late '80s political instability and curfews had paralyzed the music industry forcing Polygram to close their Ghanaian subsidiaries leaving all of their recordings behind. These recordings had been packed in boxes and left vegetating in an Accra warehouse for three decades. All of the tapes looked unharmed and the Orchestre Abass tape was in excellent condition. Samy began fiddling around with the idea of releasing an album of the band and that plan got an additional boost with le "coup de grace" which had landed in the form of an ultra-rare tune called "Honam" discovered in Sotoboua, a small northern Togolese town. Samy had previously discovered some similar music in Northern Benin and in Nigeria and pictured an area that spread all the way from Northern Ghana to Northern Cameroon, an area he dubbed "The Islamic funk belt" due to the fact that Super Borgou de Parakou, Napo De Mi Amor, Uppers International, and Hamad Kalkaba, just to name a few, were from that "belt" and made up of musicians with an Islamic background. This can be felt and heard in the music and particularly in the singing, since many of the musicians had attended koranic schools and the languages used in the songs often had Arabic elements fused in. Orchestra Abass' recordings, with their heavy, organ-led sound, combined with the deftest of musical touches, were the work of a rhythmic powerhouse, deeming them one of Togo's funkiest bands. Unfortunately, Malam Issa Abass, the founder, guitarist, and organ player of the band, was killed in 1993 by a grenade thrown into his bedroom. Samy tracked down Thon Komla, one of the band´s songwriters, and Abderaman Issa, the guitar player of the band, to help him reconstruct the biography of the band. All the music was licensed directly from the various composers of these songs. 180 gram, virgin vinyl; gatefold sleeve with previously unseen pictures and a detailed biography of Orchestre Abass.

INKSWEL The Sound LP
With Inkswel's The Sound, there is big news on the Apparel Tronic side. The Sound is the seventh release in the catalog and the label's second on vinyl, by a much-admired artist: Julian Habib (aka Inkswel), on this project with his alias That Dude Inkswel. The man himself created an eight track album which truly represents Apparel Tronic's spirit of experimentation, this time steering towards more jazzy influenced hip-hop and staying true to label's sound. The Sound features dope collaborations such as the Detroit vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Brownstudy on the opening and title track, progressive artist Maia Von Lekow giving her voice for "Mother" alongside Mista Monk, the superb Han Litz's flute and Trujillo on "Kellin' It" and also Divine Species on "Galaxies" and Mr. Schem rapping on "Dedicated to Mr. Schem". This work is a bold and captivating selection of different styles belonging to the same soul orchestrated by Inkswel and his musical mastermind; listening to The Sound is like jumping on a caravan for a journey where every track is a different stop: crunching beats, deep bass lines, psychedelic melodies. The ingredients for this amazing recipe are all coming from different parts of the planet, a place that Inskwel seems to have written on his palms given his capability of bringing different music influences under the same roof, where he finally invited Apparel Tronic to hang for a bit.

HODGE Exogenesis 12"
"Hodge has said that each time he puts out a new release, it turns out to be the one he's felt most happy with. It could be a marker of consistent progress, but with such a diverse catalogue of productions, perhaps it's a stretch to compare one release to the next. Where 2017 saw four solo EPs from the Bristol artist, he began and now ends 2018 with an EP on Berceuse Heroique, bookending a year that also featured collaborations with Gramrcy and Ishan Sound. He also soundtracked the trailer for Believer, a Korean crime film, with 'Sunlight On A Broken Column', and produced an EP for Livity Sound with Laurel Halo. Exogenesis is the hypothesis that life originated elsewhere in the universe. The extra-terrestrial title carries over from Beneath Two Moons, his EP for Berceuse Heroique earlier this year. On 'Raptors' and 'Xenomorph,' which takes its name from the Alien franchise, percussive textures accompany rattling vocals and piercing synths. 'Night Run' is a polyrhythmic workout with bright melodies and a rolling bassline, while 'Bam' ambles with a hypnotic groove. Hodge has said he's focused on tension in his music, aiming to create moments that feel like 'anything could happen'. Exogenesis does this with infinite crescendos, feverish chord progressions and layers of thumping percussion." --Resident Advisor

Ever-impressing UK talent James Dexter makes a return to Bondage-Music this December as he drops his latest three-track EP Let's Go Back. Title cut "Let's Go Back" opens proceedings as Dexter reveals an up-front, bumping cut armed with crunchy drum licks, infectious vocal samples, and rich, airy chords, before "Simple Things" utilizes further rich and soulful vocals alongside crisp skipping hats and resonant kicks to guide the production through seven minutes of groove driven house music. "Roll Through" pairs refined, stripped-back organic percussion arrangements with wandering synth lines and vocal coos.

TELEFON TEL AVIV Immolate Yourself LP
2018 repress on vinyl. This is the third full-length album by Chicago's Telefon Tel Aviv (Joshua Eustis and Charles Cooper), and their first for BPitch Control. Immolate Yourself unites ten tracks with the aim to give the term "electro-pop" a new definition for the year 2009. Although each track has its own story to tell, together they paint a bigger picture that encapsulates the Telefon Tel Aviv sound. Arguably the album's standout track "Helen of Troy" -- a driving, moody and muddled piece, full of '80s aesthetics, vintage synths and low, romantic vocals -- was in fact the last track to be finished, and in a way, marked the climax and formed the basis of the whole work. With this release, Telefon Tel Aviv make a statement that combines popular dance music with their own darker reflections on the electronic sound universe.

MATTHEWS, CARL Call For World Saviours LP
LP version. Bureau B presents a reissue of Carl Matthews' Call For World Saviours, originally issued in 1984. Mesmerizing DIY electronic music from Cumbria, UK, influenced by the Berlin School but even more by Tim Blake, Call For World Saviours was originally released 1984 on cassette only; this is this music's first time on CD and vinyl."Carl Matthews is by no means immune to the maelstrom of geocaching notebooks. Krautrock (tick), guerrilla DIY cassette-era artist (tick), under-rated UK electronic composer (tick). Man with a beard, surrounded by synths. Tick. Best of all, he was once described as the Edgar Froese of Cumbria. The Tangerine Dream legend needs no introduction, but the Cumbrian question deserves further scrutiny. In spite of the irresistible urge felt by many to claim Matthews for the Berlin School, this is unquestionably an artist who wrote music far from the madding krautrock crowd. Instead, he worked in isolation, splendid or otherwise. The question remains, is there a suspension bridge which connects Carl Matthews to the mainland European tradition of Harmonia, Cluster, and Tangerine Dream? 'I was at a crossroads in my life aged 28, early influences were krautrock: NEU!, Kraftwerk, Cosmic Jokers, etc. One day, I was listening to Tim Blake, and my inner voice said ''I can do that!'', Carl recalls. Whilst his music clearly bears the hallmarks of superb craftsmanship -- his mesmerizing soundscapes more than a match for any of his contemporaries -- Carl Matthews was, and still is, a truly independent artist, from the means of production to the published recordings. If it is possible to identify a scene along the lines described above, Matthews was not part of it. 'I was totally alone in doing this; no one was interested in my musical taste at that time. As far as I know the electronic/new wave music scene in Carlisle was virtually zero.' Happily for fans of his music, recent years have seen a resurgence in activity. Unwaveringly self-effacing, Carl Matthews continues to make music which is liberated from the constraints of ego, allowing one to wander the magnetic fields of his imagination. Today, in his own words, he is 'an old guy who likes making sounds for library/production companies', which says it all, really. The signs are all there in Call For World Saviours, music which is both timeless and very much of its time, a disappearing act on the part of its creator whose character nevertheless resonates in every note." --Harry Calvino.

GUIDDO/NIROSTA STEEL, TOMASZ Go Back 12"
What we gonna do right here is "Go Back", way back. It not only reminds of an Arthur Russell vibe, it has the de-facto ingredients of Arthur Russell's highly-acclaimed garage sound: naturally Steven Hall, aka Nirosta Steel, was the guitarist and/or singer of a few Arthur Russell hits. Never oxidizing, Nirosta Steel met up with DJ, producer, and Chinese record shop owner Tomasz Guiddo. When Kalabrese heard the original, he said it reminded him of the Talking Heads. Anyway, Kalabrese delivered his typical live-made disco-tinged joy ride, while Shahrokh Dini pushes "Go Back" forward into an enervating house hemisphere.

PICCIONI, PIERO La Notte Brava CD
Digitmovies release, for the first time on CD, the complete edition of Piero Piccioni's original sound track for the drama The Big Night (aka Bad Girls Don't Cry, original title La Notte Brava). Piero Piccioni (1921-2004) wrote and directed this score where jazz and blues create the right atmosphere for the young protagonists of the story. Originally, not a single note was released from this prestigious soundtrack. Digitmovies' CD was possible thanks to the mono master tapes from the original recording session. Maestro Piccioni composed a recurring main score which is introduced in the opening credits and reprised in different versions: slow for bassoons, with horns, a fast swing, and with the addition of female voices. Piero Piccioni alternates this with numerous dance melodies like the mambo, rock n'roll, swing, tango, and the song with a female voice, "Hello You", which is reprised in an instrumental version. The inner side of the main characters is emphasized by very evocative passages. This album is another masterpiece by Piero Piccioni which has finally been recovered and preserved on CD forever. Edition of 300.

SAVINA, CARLO La Dove Non Batte Il Sole / Un Animale Chiamato Uomo CD
Digitmovies release the Carlo Savina's original soundtrack for the Spaghetti Westerns The Stranger and the Gunfighter ("Là Dove Non Batte Il Sole") and An Animal Called Man ("Un Animale Chiamato Uomo") for the first time on CD, in complete edition. For The Stranger and the Gunfighter, Carlo Savina wrote an enjoyable soundtrack dominated by three main themes. One is a vibrant orchestral motif in Western-style beat for the character of Dakota, the mature gunslinger played by Lee Van Cleef. It is introduced in the opening credits and reprised later. The second is an oriental style theme for the character of young Wong-Kiang (Lo) with sounds which are sometimes dramatic and heroic. And finally, a pleasant love theme for Wong-Kiang and the beautiful Lia-Kua, where the wonderful voice of Edda Dell'Orso chimes in. There is also no shortage of lounge music like a pop bossa, action music, and the guaranteed saloon pieces. For this recovery and preservation, the stereo master tapes from the original recording session were used. With An Animal Called Man, Carlo Savina wrote an upbeat soundtrack where an amusing and light-hearted motif comes through. It is introduced in the opening credits and is then reprised slower and faster, and as a shake with organ. It is alternated with a romantic love theme with the voice of Nora Orlandi as well as with saloon pieces. For this recovery and preservation, the stereo master tapes from the original recording session were used. Edition of 300.

CARPI, FIORENZO Le Avventure Di Pinocchio 3CD
Digitmovies rerelease, on a triple-CD set, Fiorenzo Carpi's complete original soundtrack for the TV drama Le Avventure Di Pinocchio ("The Adventures of Pinocchio") in full stereo, directed in 1972 by Luigi Comencini. At the time the C.A.M. issued a 33rpm containing eighteen tracks and a 45rpm single with two tracks. The album material was re-released in France on an LP and on another vinyl with music and dialogues narrated by Genevieve Casile. C.A.M. reissued on CD for the first time ever, the content of the vintage 33rpm in 1991, in its series Cam's Soundtrack Encyclopedia and in 2005 with a new music suite. For the production of Digitmovies' triple-CD set, the label were able to access the master tapes in full stereo of the recording session of the time which allowed them to use every note recorded in 1972, under the direction of the fabulous orchestra conductor Bruno Nicolai (who had also handled the arrangements). An open sea of music... the label almost felt like the puppet Pinocchio who desperately swims in front of the monstrous jaws of the whale; experience of recovery, edit, sequence, and restoration really tiring and unprecedented, which led finally to the realization of Digitimovies' ambitious project. CD one contains the material of the historic 33rpm, followed by TV versions and alternate takes; CD two continues with many other TV versions and alternate takes; the third CD contains TV versions, alternate takes, and test versions sung by Andrea and Nino Manfredi Balestri with the orchestra of the brothers De Angelis. The magnitude of Fiorenzo Carpi and Bruno Nicolai is highlighted by the impressive number of different arrangements of the main themes (the most attentive audiophiles will notice even the presence of certain sonic atmospheres typical of Nicolai for the Italian thriller!) That lead the listener into the magical world of Pinocchio, thanks to a popular flavor of music, strong in its extreme simplicity. An absolute masterpiece that wants to pay homage to Nino Manfredi in one of his most intense performances, the director Luigi Comencini and of course the musical art of Fiorenzo Carpi and Bruno Nicolai. Edition of 300.

RUSSELL SEPTET, GEORGE The Stratus Seekers LP
DOXY presents a reissue of the George Russell Septet's The Stratus Seekers, originally issued in 1962. Joe Goldberg, from the original liner notes: "'Color' is a word that crops up with great frequency whenever George Russell discusses music. 'Dixieland has a color,' he has said; 'bop is a definite color, and so is atonality.' Following that train of thought, one might extend Russell's thesis and refer to him as a kaleidoscopic musical figure: so many different 'colors,' to use his phrase, appear on this album in so many shifting patterns that such a designation becomes almost inevitable. Colors, kaleidoscopes, and a music that insists on pushing its way out of arbitrary bags and containers. And although Russell's music is experimental, often difficult, and based on considerable technical theory, it is definitely full of just such vivid, electric and appealing qualities." KANAAN Windborne CD
Windborne is the debut album from young Norwegian power-trio Kanaan. With components from jazz, fusion and post-rock they have created six extended pieces of blazing free-form psychedelia. While the band is rooted in the same spirit that gave birth to Mahavishnu Orchestra and Larry Coryell's The Eleventh House in the 1970s, there's a distinctive modern flavor to Kanaan. Their Scandinavian genealogy is apparent as well; their intricate song structures seems to be branching off the same stem as Motorpsycho, Papir, and Jaga Jazzist. Opening track "A. Hausenbecken" feels like a sudden blast of refreshing Nordic air, with rolling guitar leads and growling Fender Rhodes. But Kanaan aren't afraid to get deep and heavy; the B-side dives into straight-up Sabbath territory, with "Act Upon The Mundane World" and "The Groke", before ending the album with the abstract, free-flowing title track "Windborne".

It is this versatility that creates an exciting hybrid sound, therefore pushing the envelope and making it sound very current, futuristic even. 180 gram vinyl, silkscreen print cover, includes download.

WILSON, GARY You Think You Really Know Me LP
2018 repress with gold foil cover. Gary Wilson's monumental 1977 LP reissued with a glamorously shiny foil cover bearing the original cover art (care of Owen Maercks's well-loved copy), delicately laid out by Scott Allison. Which makes it, perhaps, the last copy you'll ever need. You Think You Really Know Me (also the title of Michael Wolk's 2005 documentary about Wilson) was Wilson's second LP, but the first he recorded as a vocalist, hewing to his own bizarre vision -- a syncretic collision of romance, new wave cocktail jazz, heartbreak, disco porn-soundtrack music, and experimental tape manipulation. Home-recorded in Endicott, NY, the album found a few fans when released, but subsequently became the exclusive purview of record collectors and the women who tolerate them. Beck namechecked Wilson in 1996, which made a few new people scratch their heads. And the album was reissued in 2002. Rediscovery followed, and records, the documentary, and some odd live shows. Most of Wilson's moves are stamped with his unique aesthetic, and are also documented on other three recommended Feeding Tube LPs -- Lisa Wants to Talk to You (FTR 081LP), Forgotten Lovers (FTR 065LP), and Music for Piano (FTR 192LP). But as bodacious as these three albums are, the real root of Wilson's muse is most obvious on You Think You Really Know Me. It is the sound of a 23-year old oddball from upstate New York wrestling with his demons and actually winning. There's nothing quite like it. And it offers a story of hope to every weirdo who hears it. Hallelujah!

"The Creek Dippers create a perfect summer day that in your dreams would stretch on forever," No Depression magazine praised the bands' first born. "Olson's songs commemorate such common, everyday pleasures as a good rain and changing seasons," All Music Guide wrote about the band's second album entitled Pacific Coast Rambler (1998) that was followed by the amazing Zola & The Tulip Tree in 1999. WOVENHAND Early Wovenhand 4LP
Early Wovenhand is a four-LP box set that contains the first three albums by Wovenhand, two of them long-time, out-of-print and one appears here on vinyl for the first time. About 16 years ago, Wovenhand showed its first sign of life with their debut album Woven Hand. In 2003, David Eugene Edwards and his band released the highly praised follow-up Blush Music on Glitterhouse Records. "Blush Music is a transcendent call-and-response between a man and the variegated joy he's unearthed within the layers of his faith," Pitchfork wrote about this masterpiece of an album. 2004 saw the release of Consider The Birds, which according to Uncut Magazine, was a "masterstroke of creeping gothic". Over the last two decades, Edwards's prolific work in both bands 16 Horsepower and Wovenhand has influenced and inspired a generation of musicians and fans. Wovenhand cannot be described in traditional terms. Their sound is a sweeping tapestry of gothic Americana, neo-folk, and alternative country. Early Wovenhand comes on 180 gram vinyl and includes download codes for each album; Carefully mastered; gatefold with a reprint of the band's first tour poster.

BJORK, BRANT Mankind Woman (Gold Vinyl) LP
Limited repress on gold vinyl. Mankind Woman is the thirteenth solo record by Brant Bjork. Although this is indeed a Brant Bjork record it is the first record Brant Bjork solely collaborates with a producer and co-writer, his LowDesertPunkBand guitarist and friend, Bubba Dupree. Only Brant and Bubba wrote and performed the music along with guest appearances by bass player Armand Secco Sabal, Nick Oliveri, and vocalist Sean Wheeler who has been a touring member of the LowDesertPunkBand. In March of 2018, the recording took place at Zainaland, a creative Villa owned by Brant Bjork's wife, Zaina Alwan, in the California desert town of 29 Palms. The record was recorded and engineered by Yosef Sanborn who also owns and operates Massive FX pedals in Los Angeles. Multiple pedals designed by Yosef were used by Brant and Bubba for this record. Additional tracks were recorded by Bubba Dupree at Brant Bjork's home studio in Venice beach California. Brant Bjork and Bubba Dupree describe the sound of Mankind Woman as modern classic. It is evidently clear that both Brant and Bubba specialize in the craft of the sound and feel of the music spawned in the '60s and '70s and this record is undoubtedly a testament to this great era of song and sound, however the intention was not to try to recapture or mimic in retro terms these influences but to strive for a contemporary quality. Brant Bjork might have gone deeper in the lyrics than on any record before. Focusing on personal sensitivities, elite hypocrisies, racism, sexism, and the daily struggle to find peace, love, and understanding in today's American society. Once again, Brant Bjork makes here a record that reminds the listener that it was the ingredients of jazz, blues, and funk that makes rock music taste so good. Limited edition gold vinyl.

DARK STRANDS Unknown Truths LP
Unknown Truths is the debut album from Tony Beardsley (aka Dark Strands). What can be said about this album? For one, it is a body of work that has been crafted as a labor of love with sources of inspiration taken from the late '80s underground warehouse parties and clubs where no one speed or style of music was played; curve balls as they say, was a good thing. Ambitious, maybe, but the only aim of the album was to actually not to have one. No one genre or concept can be applied, but this is not by design, it is purely accidental as the music weaves between various electronic strands and rhythm forms. It's fair to say that his music has not been compromised to follow latest trends or fashion. It is for everyone, but no one. Its only true purpose is to liberate senses and provide a lasting sonic soundtrack to the modern age.

RADIGUE, ELIANE Vice Versa, Etc... 2CD
2018 repress. "Includes liner notes & archival photographs. 1970 was an important year in Eliane Radigue's musical life since it was the year just before she acquired her ARP 2500 synthesizer. Since 1967, she had been using the feedback as a material; feedback from two tape recorders reworked through intensive studio techniques: slowing down, alteration, superimposition, montage. In 1970, the last year she dedicated to feedback, several milestone pieces saw the light of day: Omnht, a wonderful sound installation for three out-of-phase tape loops and wall-mounted loudspeakers; the theoretical setting of Labyrinthe Sonore (eventually premiered at Mills College in 1998 in collaboration with Pauline Oliveros, Maggie Payne and William Winant, amongst others); Opus 17, one of her first compositions in fixed duration (according to Rhys Chatham, a decisive piece that would change his own compositional career); and Vice-Versa, etc..., which appears to be her very last feedback loop composition. Vice-Versa, etc... was conceived as a sound installation setting similar to S=a=b=a+b. A single magnetic tape can be played at any speed, a stereo tape of which allows three playings: left channel alone, right channel alone, left and right channels together. These different channels can be overlapped/crossed over as much as possible, at any speed. Thus the piece reveals itself in its whole dimension, its infinite grace. In its content, the piece is the most minimal that Eliane Radigue has ever composed. Feedback is horizontally sustained, time is suspended, vibrating with organic and subtle pulsations. The fastest playthrough, in just 2'42", weaves a graceful continuum of uncanny depth, somewhere between the sonority of feedback and a glass harmonica. Played slowly, at 13'41", it takes us into an universe of low frequency vibrations felt as much by the guts, the ribcage and the whole body as by the eardrum: the signature sound of Eliane Radigue. Between these two extremes, many delicate shadings/variations appear simply through speed modulation. What is striking about this work, which may arguably be one of Radigue's most important compositions, is the extraordinary quality of the tones obtained from such a rudimentary material. It is hard to believe that the composer was yet to begin working on her ARP, since the sonorities heard on Vice-Versa, etc... are surprisingly similar to those she would go on to produce with her synthesizer. Vice-Versa, etc... is a minimal work which possesses an infinity of possible variations, a secret object containing the seeds of the oeuvre to come, and a discreet turning point linking the composer's two important working phases, an extremely subtle cross-fade between her feedback loop period to her ARP period. Originally, only ten signed and numbered copies of this little boxset containing a magnetic tape and a handwritten note were released -- needless to say this is a work that has been nearly forgotten! We have decided to reissue this object as a double CD, with the tape played respectively forwards and backwards, at four different speeds, corresponding to the standards of the tape recorders of the time. This will allow dedicated listeners to experiment with simultaneous playback of the work's different versions, recreating the conditions of the original installation. For lazier listeners, a simple playthrough provides complete satisfaction, a listening experience that loses itself in the ineffable and discreet beauty of these four variations."

RADIGUE, ELIANE Transamorem - Transmortem CD
2018 repress. "Transamorem - Transmortem was premiered on March 9, 1974 at The Kitchen in NYC, where the music programmer at the time was Rhys Chatham - this was right before his guitar phase. During this period, Transamorem - Transmortem was presented along with other compositions by Eliane Radigue in a linear mode of listening, although the piece had originally been conceived, during its composition, as a sound installation. Of course, both modes of listening are possible, and each works marvelously in its own way."

BARBIERI, CATERINA Patterns Of Consciousness 2LP
2018 repress. Patterns Of Consciousness is the powerful second full-length from analog synth composer Caterina Barbieri. Gorgeous high resolution analog textures and algorithmic melodies unfold under Barbieri's careful control, exploring the basic nature of sound and consciousness. These pieces are minimal in arrangement but maximal in presence asserting Barbieri as a unique voice in contemporary electronic music composition. Patterns Of Consciousness was originated by ideally infinite permutation of patterns through a disciplined and exclusive use of machinery (an indexed quad sequencer and a harmonic oscillator). By means of subtraction, addition, and jitter operations, Barbieri derives a myriad of interlocking patterns extracted from an original matrix of just few harmonic archetypes, gradually developing the potential of the reduced constellation of pitches and durations determined in advance. Pushing the limits of her monophonic instrument, Barbieri seeks out counterpoint from a single oscillator through the exclusive use of additive synthesis, fast progressions, extreme melodic jumps, and intricate delay lines. She develops an illusory counterpoint style influenced by her passion for baroque lute music, where fast arpeggios are employed to get effects of sustained chords and overcome the limits of fast decay timbres. But the highly formulaic and germinative style of these pieces is also influenced by Indian classical music's vision of sound as an agent of change and recreation. Patterns are understood as the cells of an organism or the units of a language: a limited set of signs that can be recombined to always generate new possibilities. In POC, repetition and permutation of patterns are explored as tools to reconfigure perceptions and bend emotions, approaching sound as a medium to develop and master our own perceptual art. Emerging machine intelligence, human desire of pattern detection and the understanding of music as a cognitive feedback between humans and technology are primary sources of inspiration for this work. All the compositions share a common fatalistic tension, an impossible running, a restless rush - somewhat nervous somewhat ecstatic - to grasp a meaning out of fragments. Every piece in POC is conceived as a generative entity, a dynamic and living being able to develop its own organic laws, whose inner potential of growth and change is embedded in the initial instructions of the sequencer. Music produced by Caterina Barbieri between September 2015 and January 2016. Mixed at EMS (Elektronmusikstudion) in Stockholm. RIYL: Alessandro Cortini, Eleh.Caterina Barbieri on Patterns Of Consciousness: "A pattern creates a certain state of consciousness. Once it is created, the pattern stands as an object exactly like the sound waves which generate it. We are at the same time inside and outside of the object. While being it, we observe it. Over time we become familiar with the inner structure of the pattern. We decode its gravitational centres, where our psychomotor attention is attracted, where everything seems to be drawn. When a change in the pattern occurs it causes a perturbation of the previously established field of forces. This causes consciousness to fracture, potentially unfolding layers of perceptions we weren't aware of or simply suggesting that we access only a fraction of our psychic potential. The layered nature of consciousness and the relativity of perception are some of the biggest secrets we can experience through sound."

RADIGUE, ELIANE Geelriandre / Arthesis LP
Eliane Radigue's Geelriandre / Arthesis is named for the pieces that fill its two sides. Geelriandre, realized on an ARP 2500 synthesizer in 1972, features Gérard Fremy on prepared piano. Arthesis, realized using the University of Iowa's Moog in 1973, comprises the full duration of side B. Eliane Radigue has received much deserved praise for her transcendent composiitions for tape, synthesizers, and acoustic instruments. Her work is deep, slowly changing, and timelessly resonant with slowly shifting timbres so dense that they seem infinite. Acute physicality, overtones, and psychoacoustic activity fills your space, follows you, grounds you, pulls you in or lets you go. It's all here/hear. Pressed at RTI; first edition of 1000.

In fact, if you took that, mixed in 'Black Silk Stocking' by Chrisma and a touch of early Nic Endo (Atari Teenage Riot) and even Dinah Cancer (45 Grave) Autopsy era, you can get a feeling. And, similarly to those mentioned, Denée is putting a time stamp on this time. The spirit and her viability is strong in many a corner, and in many a heart. The alarm is ringing. "This is survival sound, put on record well backed by Ty Segall and Emmett Kelly, who have added anything-must-happen, mercurial, constantly moving instrumentation. The sounds, consistent with unique monochrome, move like an engine, made gas-tight by piston rings. Sonic rings moving in tight machine patterns. Composed using a custom-built Max / MSP sequencer-- with no external samplers, synthesizers, or acoustic instruments involved -- the limitations of the process shaped these masterful, minimal compositions. Each piece was produced as a live mix, direct to disk, with no separated tracks. Originally issued in November of 2002 on compact disc, Kranky is now making these timeless recordings available on vinyl for the first time. All of these tracks are named after submarines, the final cut being a requiem for the crew of the ill-fated Russian nuclear vessel Kursk. Recorded at home using only samples as sound sources, the album is rife with source-less echoes, steely surfaces and ominous melodic and rhythmic undertows. The sifted melodies are layered over muffled, clicking and pulsing rhythm tracks with an appropriately aquatic feel to the tracks."

FREDDA Land CD
Haiku-chanson with a US touch -- Fredda invents her own musical Land. From chanson's meeting with Japanese poetic forms and the garnishing sound of the American coast emerges a new album by Fredda. Where the sound of the words alone resonates with musical poetry, where words need no real translation, a singer, songwriter, and composer turns Francophone pop into an art form. Fredda's consistent development has awakened a sense of depth and soul. The title, Land, sets both the theme and the musical philosophy of the album. Fredda's fifth album is thereby an open arena for all those willing to occupy it, no matter where they come from. Fredda ignores musical boundaries and creates new connections; topical themes of uprooting and nomadism also play their own role in the lyrics. With Land, Fredda's songwriting has reached maturity and naturalness, but this seeming lightness and naturalness is in fact the result of meticulous work. Having put aside the already-finished album, Fredda decided to record it again -- having suddenly been struck by a very clear vision of how the character and sound of the songs should be. Her partner in recording and arrangement was for the second time round Pascal Parisot. After recording -- with guitarist Stéphane Louvain and the Fredda's live rhythm section Nicolas Desse and Alexandre Viudes -- a last decisive piece of puzzle was missing on the way to the end result of Land: for the mixing Fredda worked at Waterworks Studios in Tuscon, Arizona with producer Jim Waters (Calexico). Land is a sparkling jewel in which each song has its own place on Fredda's musical map: from the harmoniously flowing "Ma Rivière" to the melodic-hypnotic "Maintenant", along to the pearls of pop "Neige Rose" and "Maintenant". Thematically between a duet with Parisot ("Siestes Anciennes") and the perfect ending of "Les Amantes" lies the thematic key to the album: "Sur La Lande". Building on the atmospheric lightness of L'Ancolie (LPM 035CD, 2012) and the infectious energy of Le Chant Des Murmured (2014), Fredda has increasingly established clearer lines and now defines a new musical territory with Land -- a cosmos of chanson, melody, vocals, and sound meeting in artistic harmony unmistakably reflecting Fredda's strong personality.

FREDDA Land LP
LP version. Haiku-chanson with a US touch -- Fredda invents her own musical Land. VELOSO, CAETANO Caetano Veloso (A Little More Blue) (Color Vinyl) LP
Lilith present a reissue of Caetano Veloso's Caetano Veloso (A Little More Blue), originally issued in 1971. Often referred to as "Brazil's unofficial poet laureate" and the "Bob Dylan of Brazil", this heavyweight of Brazilian music was also a young revolutionary who used his music to protest against Brazil's oppressive military regime. This protest music, which became known as tropicalia, first earned Veloso a stint in jail, but by the time this dour album was released in 1971, it had placed him in exile in the UK. Veloso's extreme bitterness and melancholy can be heard on every groove of this album, but don't let the album's gloomy atmosphere stop you from buying it; it is dripping with some of the best moments of saudade in the history of Brazilian music. Color vinyl.

MUMMY DUST TRIPPERS Song of the Cactus House CD
"'Inhale with extreme caution.' So goes the apt descriptor for a tripped out bazaar of sounds from shamanic musical journeymen 'Wildman' Winslow and Grant Corum. Some may recognize the latter for his work as The Orchardist or under his own name. Together, Winslow & Corum are unveiling a kaleidoscopic sonic travelogue in the form of two separate albums: Perfect Prey and Song of the Cactus House. The former is composed of 'six new critical-paranoiac methods,' while the latter is 'an outfolding protoplasmic psychoactive chamber open to travelers and the curious alike.' If your mind-mouth is watering just reading the record descriptions, just wait until you open it up wide and imbibe the intoxicating sounds from an unknown, and perhaps unreal, foreign zone. These are immersive soundscapes that will transport you from the cold comforts of your screens into a location yet to be determined. Might as well dive in and find out, am I right? Perfect Prey (via Psychic Sounds) and Song of the Cactus House (via Lost Discoveries) BOTH drop simultaneously on November 11 and can be pre-ordered right here right now. Based on their first tastes, we're in for a truly aurally-transformative adventure. See you there." --Jason C., Tiny Mix Tapes

SPIRITFLESH Spiritflesh LP
The latest project to rise out of Bristol, Spiritflesh is the brainchild of Julian "DJ October" Raymond-Smith and Boris "Borai" English. The culmination of countless hours spent in an infamous basement studio full of old machines, BBC-grade reverbs, delays, phasers and little known mixing technique, Spiritflesh are now presenting their eponymous piece. Taking in a host of sounds, the pair have truly blurred the conventions of influences and spawned a sonic that is all theirs. Phased, delayed and crashed through red-hot electronics, their sonic is at a constant boiling point, doubled in menace via evocation, constantly spewing and spitting like a skeletal, fog-riddled construct of otherwordly ambience, guttural bassline and rhythm. Dream-like, yet crushingly physical, their sound is a cerebral kind of music that touches, with great conviction, on ideas of life, death and the in-between. Mixed at BB Studios, mastered and cut by Lewis at Stardelta. Edition of 300, screenprinted, in antistatic bag with sticker and download.

TRANS UPPER EGYPT Tue LP
Rising from a four-year hiatus, East Rome's Trans Upper Egypt strikes back with a new album, Tue following up the two previous two. After a few line-up changes, Simne Donadni (Rainbow Island) definitely joins the band with his avant-primitive drumming beside Bob Junior (Holiday Inn/Bobsleigh Baby), and Leo Non (WoW!). These new tracks, recorded near Turin on the farm/studio run by Boto (Movie Star Junkies/OaXacA) bring a clear evolution in their sound, without any changes to their attitude: hypnotic trance songs assembled with a mix of primal Kraut and psych vibes, repetitive dub bass and Afro beats, acid synth lines and roared mantras recited by a blurred enchanting voice. Seven killer tracks make this album essential for everyone who digs Italian '70s tunes, German Kraut, minimal synth punk and psych travels (with or without drugs). Cover by Matteo Pozzi (Cacao). SLIM MEDIA PLAYER Quicksand 12"
"Slim Media Player returns to Pacific Rhythm with a wonderfully original EP, Quicksand, his first new material since 2016's Rhythms Of The Pacific Volume 3. The EP is the product of Slim Media Player & DJ D.DEE culling through 20+ hours of live jams recorded in Vancouver at Deep Blue Studios from 2016 to 2018. The EP opens with the records namesake 'Quicksand', a playful piece of peak-time material that's quirky, uplifting, and dare we say a touch heart-warming. 'Mouthfeel' comes through swinging but plays a touch more koi than the opener, serving as an effective tension-builder on the dancefloor that builds into a thoughtful groover with some light at the end of tunnel. On the b-side S.M.P explores deeper territory with 'Memory Bias (Nostalgia Mix)', an aquatic roller blanketed with warmth and a contemplative air that stretches for nearly 9 minutes. The EP fades out with the gentle drift of 'Tschüs', a warm swaddle that will quell your anxieties and affirm that there are indeed some things that are right in this world, this track being one of them."

CTM Red Dragon LP
"about/ a (feverish) narrative involving/ touching upon Elon Musk's (cancelled/) failed robotic lander mission to mars, Michael Jackson's final moments on stage and current personal life (motherhood)" Search as one might for an adequate charm to safely light Red Dragon, Cæcilie Trier's evocations tend to outpace us at every step. The album's fever-dream story flicks through the recent past and the present. Elon Musk's extraplanetary desires cross with maternal notes. Michael Jackson, too, is watched over. The terse titles that greet us in Trier's solo work are a wry sleight of hand. CTM, standing for Cæcilie Trier Musik, marks the impersonal boundary where intimacies are developed, trampled, and searched through. On her new album for Posh Isolation, produced with Asger Hartvig, aka MC Boli of Boli Group, the drama is composed and enduring, like a plot twist that lasts a life time. Trier is a Copenhagen based cellist, singer, and composer, with her classical training apparent across her many and varied projects and collaborations. Having received critical acclaim from the earliest moments of her career, Trier's previous album Suite For A Young Girl (2016) was nominated for the prestigious Nordic Music Prize in 2017. Red Dragon keeps Trier's voice central to the affairs. The instrumentation wades in-and-out of focus from stage right and left. And as often as you are caught in the songwriting's pirouettes and glances around the vocals, the splintering effect of the production impresses an inhuman déjà vu with regularity. This is especially felt in the electronics, sound bites, and digital ephemera that dress the songs. The bareness of the strings and guitars act as a peculiar balance, keeping you close just as you get a sense of the distance from which you are permitted a view. Red Dragon features appearances from Coco O, Frederikke Hoffmeier (Puce Mary), Soho Rezanejad, and Dawda Jobarteh.

SCANDINAVIAN STAR SOLAS LP
The story of the passenger liner MS Scandinavian Star stays adrift. Tragic and complex, the details are out there in the electronic ozone, still yet to find closure. From sea port to Ethernet port, Malthe Fischer's project navigates the themes of the narrative that unfolds to this day. His debut album SOLAS makes this journey with a series of heart-wrenching affairs in crisp detail. Appearing on Posh Isolation's recent compilation I Could Go Anywhere But Again I Go With You, Fischer's Scandinavian Star project here marked a long-anticipated return. Since his self-titled and widely loved cassette for Ascetic House (2015), Fischer has been most prominent in the band Lust For Youth. SOLAS shares some of the floaty, melodramatic electronics of Lust For Youth's most elegant moments, but it's a different flavor of heartbreak and intrigue being pushed by Fischer in his solo work. A symphony of disembodied voices trail across SOLAS. Gesturing toward longing and hope, and occasionally struggling to get out of the misty collage of stumbling rhythms, it's as if you are listening to a form of wonder being mechanized before you. The surface of Fischer's work is dense in detail, but falling for and fixating on the smallest thing often blossoms the most treasured effects. Minor acoustic instrumentation is precariously balanced against thickets of cut-up recordings and samples, the hybrid charge of the synthesizers holds everything together without letting anything recede. As soft as SOLAS feels, it stays sharp and bites at times, even through four-to-the-floor whispers. There's a memory of something communal in it all, and this is what holds on.

In 2018, it's time to re-record our classics with this new line-up, we just opened the door to the next stage!" --Kawabata Makoto.Twenty-four years into their existence, Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O. have circled the globe a few dozen times, released over 100 albums and played thousands of shows. In recent years, they've experienced seismic line-up changes, which have given them another new lease on life. Original members Kawabata (guitar, speed guru) and Higashi Hiroshi (synthesizer, noodle god) are now joined by Jyonson Tsu (vocal, midnight whistler), Satoshima Nani (drums, another dimension), and Wolf (bass, space and time). Reverse Of Rebirth In Universe sees the band return to their old label Riot Season for the first time since 2012's IAO Chant From The Melting Paraiso Underground Freak Out (REPOSE 032CD/LP). Long-time fans will recognize some of the song titles, but the songs themselves have been reworked and transformed far away from their original versions. New boy Tsu's quiet, almost whispered vocals bring a whole new aura to proceedings, despite the familiar riffs. It's so laid back in places it's practically horizontal, with only occasional trademark piercing guitar squeals threatening to destroy the peace and calm. All of side two is taken up with the twenty-minute epic "Black Summer Song"; if this is an indicator to where the AMT mothership is heading, we're all in for another fucked up and magical ride. In a world that's more messed up than ever, one could all use a break away from the norm, and nobody takes one as away from the norm like Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O. LP version. Includes insert with lyrics, liner notes, and photos. Sommor Records present a reissue of Flibbertigibbet's Whistling Jigs To The Moon, originally released in South Africa in 1978. Whistling Jigs To The Moon is not only a very rare and sought-after album but also a wonderful collection of traditional and original folk tunes with a strong Celtic influence. Featuring Alison O'Donnell and David Williams from psych-folk legends Mellow Candle. In 1974, following the break-up of Mellow Candle, Alison and David arrived to South Africa. Once there, they met a couple of fellow expat musicians, Barrie Glenn and Jo Dudding, forming Flibbertigibbet in a niche folk and traditional circle of immigrant and local musicians, building up a repertoire of tunes and songs both original and traditional. They appeared at evenings held in communal houses, at folk nights and the Boksburg Folk Club. Producer David Marks offered to release their album and launch it in a series of concerts at the renowned Market Theatre. They enlisted the help of a number of fine musicians on the recording, namely classical first violinist Francesco Cignoli, jazz bassist Denis Lalouette, Nippy Cripwell on string bass, Colin Shapiro on flute, and Dave Lambert on fiddle. Whistling Jigs To The Moon saw the light in 1978. RIYL: Steeleye Span, Spriguns Of Tolgus, Fairport Convention. Master tape sound; includes insert with lyrics, liner notes, and photos.

VA New Tape LP
Founded in early '70s by historical RAI TV trumpeter and composer Cicci Santucci (Looking Around (1971), On The Underground Road (1971)), New Tape grew up during the golden period of Italian music production and was dedicated to experimentation of new forms of sound, always hailing from the solid jazz base of the musicians and inspired by theme music. Andrea Galtieri aka Cavalier Piscopo has sequenced the very best shots from the label's production and included exclusive liner notes, creating an explosive mix of jazz-rock, bossa, spellbinding grooves, and raw experimental stuff. "A leading figure in the Italian jazz scene, Santucci worked as trumpeter in the legendary RAI TV orchestra for over 20 years. He was renowned for collaborations with such jazz legends as Lionel Hampton, Gato Barbieri, and Kenny Clarke, until his foray into the avant-garde with The Living Music, a project founded by his brother Umberto. During these same years, he took part in important Italian jazz sessions like Looking Around and On The Underground Road, with Enzo Scoppa. It was just around this period that Cicci founded his own label, New Tape. His goal was to dedicate himself to composing library music with a new expression, less linked to hard bop or American standards, but more focused on the sounds of the time that brought the listener closer to modern vibes, like jazz-rock and the avant-garde. Mixed Grill opens this series, by the maestro's alias, Girosan, along with Lesiman (aka Paolo Renosto). Rengran Mix (1971) and Tropical (1972) followed, with music by Renosto and Romolo Grano. This work gave way to electronic instrumentation, and was built on a rich rhythmical carpet -- tropical percussion, rock and blues-inspired vibes, sleazy psych, and jazz improvisations. The label's most important production was the fourth album, Mirage (1971) by Santucci and Enzo, an explosive mix of elegant jazz, funk, and psychedelia. The last album of the series is Appunti Di Guerra (1971) by the mysterious Ruscigan, an obscure alias which probably belongs to Renosto and Guido Baggiani. This work features complex and dramatic sounds composed for war scenes and gloomy atmospheres, with a large assortment of percussion, distorted effects, and tape manipulation, foreshadowing industrial music. With pressings of only 100 copies per title, New Tape is among the most interesting discoveries to date in terms of original production library music." --Andrea Galtieri. Edition of 500, 180 gram vinyl in heavy cardboard packaging.

BABY GRANDMOTHERS Baby Grandmothers 2LP
2018 repress of this 2LP vinyl edition, originally released in 2007. Baby Grandmothers were a short-lived Swedish band, but one of the most prolific and unique psychedelic, modal, experimental power trios to emerge out of the Scandinavian psychedelic underground scene in 1967. Although hailing from Stockholm, Sweden they only released a single in Finland, which has since become one of the most sought-after pieces of vinyl from the era. Formed out of the legendary R&B/beat band T-Boones which included guitar-wiz Kenny Håkansson, who ushered the group into the psychedelic sounds of the time. Not only were they the house band at the legendary psychedelic club, Filips, they also supported Jimi Hendrix on his Swedish tour in 1968 and then turned into Mecki Mark Men, who became the first Swedish rock band to tour the U.S. This unique collection includes live recordings made at Filips, their impossibly rare single and a rare live recording made in Finland. Painstakingly collected and researched by Dungen's guitarist, Reine Fiske.

CHEER, ALEC Night Kaleidescope LP
Alec Cheer's Night Kaleidescope is an incredible modern techno-based score to an underground psychedelic detective vampire indie drama. So there. There is little history here as this is a new release, but this is simply an amazing modern score to a 2017 film one may never have heard about (directed by Grant McPhee). What sets this score apart is its clinical post-modern feel, with influences including Mica, John Carpenter, Brian Eno, Goblin, Fabio Frizzi, even whispers of the 1980s, as well as a musical feel a little like the classic Drive (2011) soundtrack. Yet with all these influences, composer Cheer somehow manages to create a new work that sounds unlike any other. It's dark, bewitching, mesmerizing, ear-catching and even "banging" in parts. Look, it must be good, otherwise Jonny Trunk would not be pressing it. And with a spelling mistake too. Full color eye-catching minimal sleeve.

CRICKETS. LOTS OF CRICKETS. AND JIM WILSON God's Chorus LP
God's Chorus, by Crickets. Lots Of Crickets. And Jim Wilson is an extraordinary ambient/minimal masterpiece made just using the sounds of crickets. Sounds like heaven. Or beautiful death. Or angels singing. Or a choir in the world's most amazing cathedral. Johnny Trunk on the record: "A few years ago, I was alerted to a strange recording online. I think it was on Mixcloud, but it might have been Soundcloud. I can't remember exactly which cloud, but I do remember other more important things: the recording was called God's Chorus and millions of people had listened to it. And thousands of those millions of people had left comments. Some had praised the mesmerizing, angelic sounds, others more cynical thought it was a hoax. Some had theories about how it was made, educated ideas, but many didn't care as they loved it so very much. There was also a name associated to the creation of God's Chorus; Jim Wilson. I listened. I listened more. I found myself immediately intrigued. And within a couple of days had licensed the recording. I believed it would really suit being on vinyl and not just on a cloud waiting for more comments. The story behind the God's Chorus recording is short and simple. It begins with the aforementioned Wilson, a songwriter and enthusiast for Native American sound, nature, ambiance and the new age. Jim recorded the crickets; he then recorded more crickets. He took one of these cricket recordings, slowed it down (just like Basil Kirchin would) and then simply played the slowed down recording over the normal version. This is what you hear on this LP except for a faded break to give us Side One and Side Two. God's Chorus is unlike anything else. Leave it on and it becomes a bizarre hypnotic drone, somewhat like a modern minimal composition. The controversy surrounding this natural wonder lies with people who think this is just a cunningly engineered sound, a cheat, a fraud, a natural musical impossibility that has been manipulated by computer and includes human voices. But people have tried to recreate it with modern tech and choir sounds and have failed. I shall leave you to draw your own conclusions about God's Chorus. Real or fake? True or false? I care not, as it sure sounds like crickets to me, and it sure does sound amazing." Artwork by Bess Kirby (Aged 13), album produced by Jonny Trunk. Full-color eye-catching minimal sleeve.

WILD HUNT Afterdream Of The Reveller 2LP
Wild Hunt's Afterdream Of The Reveller presented here as a double-LP. Contains the songs from the Scroll And Urn EP as a bonus; these songs never got a physical release before. Features members of Void Omnia and Dispirit."Afterdream Of The Reveller is a unique sonic journey, taking you across mythical landscapes and forcing you to embrace the bleak unrealities of the black metal sound world. Adventurous, titanic and filled to the brim with all sorts of interesting musical ideas this album is a thrilling journey. There is something punishingly perfect about Wild Hunt, their massive sounds and transcendent blasts of nihilistic black metal feed into something greater. With doom metal fringes filling out ritualistic blasphemy it's hard not to fall in love. The thing that really gets me here though is the quality of the songwriting. While Wild Hunt certainly understand how to craft some really twisted riffs and punish the listener with hooks they also step into the groove now and again. Beyond that, there is a lot of melodic content here to sink your teeth into. They use this record to sort of paint themselves as a group who can tackle it all, but never stray too far from their black metal roots. It makes for a thrilling listening experience. It's rare you find black metal this dynamic that isn't also a little bit silly, but Wild Hunt seem to revel in extremes and use it to guide you through a wicked path. While this album is not without its moments where it pushes a little too far, I can't help but to admire the drive and 'togetherness' of this release. It makes Afterdream Of The Reveller the sort of thing that you want to come back too and truly enjoy, no matter how far removed you may be." --Two Guys Metal Reviews

Though she reached more widespread notoriety across the world in the '50s and '60s thanks to the folk/blues revival and her beloved status among UK blues and rock musicians, it's her early recordings from the late '30s and early-mid '40s that are the most brilliant, visceral, and emotional of her career.
