JISSOJI, AKIO The Buddhist Trilogy 3xBLU-RAY
"Akio Jissoji created a rich and diverse body of work during his five decades in Japan's film and television industries. For some, he is best-known for his science-fiction: the 1960s TV series Ultraman and 1998's box-office success Tokyo: The Last Megalopolis. For others, it is his 1990s adaptations of horror and mystery novelist Edogawa Rampo, such as Watcher in the Attic and Murder on D Street. And then there are his New Wave films for the Art Theatre Guild, three of which -- This Transient Life, Mandara and Poem, forming The Buddhist Trilogy -- are collected here. Winner of the Golden Leopard award at the 1970 Locarno Film Festival, This Transient Life is among the Art Theatre Guild's most successful -- and most controversial -- productions. The film concerns a brother and sister from a rich family who defy the expectations placed on them: he has little interest in further education or his father's business, instead obsessing over Buddhist statues; she continually refuses a string of suitors and the prospect of marriage. Their closeness, and isolation, gives way to an incestuous relationship which, in turn, breeds disaster. Mandara, Jissôji's first colour feature, maintained the controversial subject matter, focusing on a cult who recruit through rape and hope to achieve true ecstasy through sexual release. Shot, as with all of Jissôji's Art Theatre Guild works, in a radically stylised manner, the film sits somewhere between the pinku genre and the fiercely experimental approach of his Japanese New Wave contemporaries. The final entry in the trilogy, Poem, returns to black and white and is centred on the austere existence of a young houseboy who becomes helplessly embroiled in the schemes of two brothers. Written by Toshirô Ishidô (screenwriter of Nagisa Ôshima's The Sun's Burial and Shôhei Imamura's Black Rain), who also penned This Transient Life and Mandala, Poem continues the trilogy's exploration of faith in a post-industrial world."

FRIEDKIN, WILLIAM Cruising BLU-RAY
"Academy Award-winner William Friedkin (The Exorcist, The French Connection) directs Al Pacino as an undercover cop pitched into New York's seedy underbelly in Cruising -- available for the first time on Blu-Ray in a brand new director-approved transfer. New York is caught in the grip of a sadistic serial killer who is preying on the patrons of the city's underground bars. Captain Edelson (Paul Sorvino) tasks young rookie Steve Burns (Pacino) with infiltrating the S&M subculture to try and lure the killer out of the shadows -- but as he immerses himself deeper and deeper into the underworld, Steve risks losing his own identity in the process. Taking the premise and title from reporter Gerald Walker's novel, Cruising was the subject of great controversy at the time of its release and remains a challenging and remarkable movie to this day, with Pacino's haunted lead performance as its magnetic centerpiece."

DJ OVERDOSE Dead City (with Ob Ignitt remix) 12"
Restocked. "On his first release for Berceuse Heroique, Rotterdam's finest DJ Overdose meets one of the strongest producers of Detroit, Mr. OB Ignitt. Overdose creates the best soundtrack for a ?march of the robots' scene with Dead City. The mighty bounce of early Dr. Dre productions meets some nasty electro carnage. On 'Sorry To Disappoint' you can hear the classic West Coast electro sound of some of his older releases mixed with some funky sci-fi synth lines. Then, OB Ignitt takes this monster of a tune and creates one of the gnarliest house tunes of this year with a proper G Funk bassline that will properly test your sound system on a good night."

KOLLAPS Mechanical Christ CD
Australian post-industrialists Kollaps are a three-piece creating a unique brand of primitive noise "intended for degenerates and outsiders". The band's distinctive primordial tones are created using appropriated waste materials like scrap metal, raw plastics, and steel plates combined with blistering percussion, bass, and vocals. This is no empty "industrial" gesture, for the band this process of creation facilitates the literal use of postmodern society against itself. Mechanical Christ, the band's sophomore release, is a conceptual continuation of its predecessor, Sibling Lovers (2017). This release sees Kollaps further their exploration of the inherent societal sickness of our times, one that manifests itself in the debasement of individual morality. Themes of exploitation, vengeance, drug addiction, paranoia, and slave labor are part of a dissonant, inverted morality play. Testament to the band's evolving conceptual depth are the overarching themes of love, life, and death that offer a sense of shared experience in the discomfort of the universal human experience. Known for their violent and nihilistic stage performances, this recording encapsulates with harsher clarity the visceral confrontation that is Kollaps' live act. Mechanical Christ was recorded and mixed over a two-month period at Aviary Studios by Mike Deslandes, and mastered by James Plotkin/Plotkinworks. A journey into the desperation and lack of resolve that is both the crux of modern social ills and at the very heart of the human condition. CD version comes in gatefold digisleeve.

YALO, GILI Made In Amharica 12"
12" version. After a big success of his first LP released in 2018 (DSR 001CD/LP), Gili Yalo comes back with his new release, Made In Amharica. Ethiopian-born, Israeli artist, Gili Yalo brings together more than two musical worlds this time. The new EP, Made In Amharica, is a result of Yalo's cooperation with Grammy Awards nominated Niles City Sound, production team consisting of Josh Block, Austin Jenkins, and Chris Vivion. The EP songs reflect the cooperation between Gili Yalo and Dallas-based musicians in the high-end vintage equipped recording studios of Niles City Sound Studio in Fort Worth's South Main. The EP consists of four songs -- in English and Amharic. The title of the EP is a word play: Amharic is a language of Ethiopian people. All songs were recorded in America, South Main. Gili Yalo combines the modern definition of Ethiopian roots, strong funky, and jazzy influences with a deep soul feeling. Made In Amharica is something more -- soul with RnB flavor, strengthened by American musicians, production team, and the best sounding analog vintage sound equipment.

FUNKE, MAXINE Lace LP
"For a decade, Maxine Funke has cut an idiosyncratic path as a singer-songwriter, all the while avoiding the parochial retreads of that worn-out label. Funke's music is intimate and deeply intelligent, buoyed by a sense of effortlessness that belies a scrupulous attention to the smallest of details. Lace was originally released as a CD-R in 2008 on Alastair Galbraith's Next Best Way label. Imagine the just-so arrangements of Josephine Foster and the knowing quotidian eye of Sibylle Baier meeting the realism of Funke's compatriots Turiiya or the acoustic textures of the Kiwi Animal and you're nearly there -- but in that gap lies the undeniable pull of Funke's music. Short songs for nylon string guitar, violin, piano, incidental snippets of bird song and furniture creaks, brief instrumental interludes in the vein of Funke's regular collaborator Galbraith: this is the realest of deals. The metaphysic of 'Second Hand Store' cuts to the uncompromised heart of this record, a rejection of the idea of ownership in favor of communal chance, the ragged comfort of things lived-in and passed on, a searching with no need to find, let alone possess. Indeed, as much as these recordings suggest the close quarters and warmth of a small home, Maxine Funke makes music for traveling, providing accompaniment through the rough, unfeeling vectors of a disenchanted world and, as she does on the last song of Felt, imagining it differently. As the titles of these albums suggest, Funke's is a tactile art, as warm and tangible as the tape hiss bathing it, her words and music rescuing everyday moments from traps of distraction and defeat. Following limited edition vinyl reissues in 2016 -- a swansong for Nemo Bidstrup's sorely missed Time-Lag Recordings imprint -- we're happy to make Felt and Lace widely available. Maxine Funke's music, immediate and entirely unpretentious, suggests a world in which Katherine Mansfield rubs shoulders with Liz Harris, or Vashti Bunyan grows up on the Flying Nun catalog. Absolutely essential."

FUNKE, MAXINE Felt LP
"For a decade, Maxine Funke has cut an idiosyncratic path as a singer-songwriter, all the while avoiding the parochial retreads of that worn-out label. Funke's music is intimate and deeply intelligent, buoyed by a sense of effortlessness that belies a scrupulous attention to the smallest of details. Felt appeared in 2012 in a vinyl edition of 100 on the Epic Sweep imprint. This album has an altogether more crepuscular feel, making slightly fuller use of the sonic palette -- an increase in dissonance, errant drum rumbles, and nigh-ambient instrumental murmurings around which flow Funke's basically perfect songs. The brevity, yet fullness, of the tracks and Funke's unadorned if oblique arrangements lend a sense not of sketches but of fields of color, the sensation of late fall foliage glimpsed through the window of a quickly passing train. BIG STICK LP LP+CD
LP version. Includes CD. "It's been fifteen years since Big Stick's last proper record release. That's an even longer period of time than some winged cicada bugs take to rise from the deep depths of earth and sing their noisy repertoire of songs. Their dynamic duo of John Gill and Yanna Trance are pleased to finally have a new album's worth of material to share. This new release is simply titled LP. It's a long-playing collection of Big Stick selections cultivated over several years. This release is a joint effort between Big Stick's new Drag Racing Underground record label and Forte Music Distribution. Gill and Trance performed most of the vocals and instrumentation on the album's fifteen tracks. Some of their musician friends appear on select songs. Much of the recording was done at their own studio, using a vintage Otari MX-70 16-track analog tape machine. Big Stick are self-produced. Gill plays guitar and keyboard. Trance performs percussion, bass, and keyboards. Both of the duo write and compose. This new album includes a retrospective collage of photographs and images, along with photos of Gill's and Trance's artwork as well as liner notes describing curious facts and trivia related to the duo and the featured songs. Both formats include a special bonus Some Of The Best Of Big Stick EP CD with ten 'classic' Big Stick tracks."

OTIS, SHUGGIE Here Comes Shuggie Otis LP
Restocked. 180 gram vinyl exact repro reissue of Shuggie's timeless 1970 debut. "Produced and arranged by his father, R&B legend Johnny Otis, the set features nine original cuts co-written by the pair, and in some cases others, and one written by Johnny with Dan Aldrich. The album is evenly divided between vocal tunes and instrumentals. The cast for these sessions included Johnny, Wilton Felder, Stix Hooper, bassist Al McKibbon, Preston Love, Jackie Kelso, Plas Johnson and a string section. 'Oxford Gray,' the album's opener, is an instrumental written by Johnny, Shuggie, Felder, and Hooper. Unlike anything that ever came before it, it's a baroque blues tune that features Shuggie playing both electric and acoustic bottleneck slide, a harpsichord, strings and a groovy little backbeat that walks the edge of blues and funk. It feels like a suite because of its many composed sections, but Shuggie's guitar is pure improvisational poetry. This is followed by the beautiful, psychedelic pop of 'Jennie Lee.' Shuggie's vocals weren't quite there, and were still somewhat tentative, but his gorgeous, Albert King-inflected guitar solo is right in the pocket, and stands in wonderful contrast to his acoustic string in the verses. The horns are restrained and regal, and the textural palette of the cut is lush and spacious. There is plenty of rootsy playing here too, such as on 'Bootie Cooler,' a Stax-styled blues groove, and the name-dropping shimmy and shake of 'Shuggie's Boogie,' the wig-tightening funk of 'Hurricane,' and the reverentially gritty 'Gospel Groove.' It closes with a modern soul rocker called 'Baby I Needed You,' with a killer hook in the refrain even if Shuggie's vocal doesn't quite pull it all off. Here Comes Shuggie Otis stands the test of time over 30 years later, and stands as a hallmark of songwriting, improvisation, and production acumen." -- All Music Guide

OTIS, SHUGGIE Freedom Flight LP
Restocked. 180 gram vinyl exact repro reissue of Shuggie's 1971 album for Epic. "Shuggie wrote four of the album's seven tunes, did all the arrangements and helped Johnny with production suggestions. The senior Otis produced the set and allowed all of Shuggie's 'weird' ideas full-reign in production, and he was joined by a host of musicians from the first album, along with George Duke, Aynsley Dunbar and the backing chorus of Clydie King, Venetta Field and Shirley Matthews, among others. Shuggie plays a slew of instruments on the set. Its centerpiece is 'Strawberry Letter 23' that filled out Inspiration Information's reissue, but there are no weak cuts here. Sample the guitars on 'Sweet Thang,' 'Purple,' and 'Freedom Flight,' the latter displays two extended jamming exercises with lots of wondrously magical production touches; the former is a visionary bottleneck number that is warm and oozes soul. The bassline on 'Me And My Woman' prefigures that distorted keyboard bass P-Funk trademarked earlier, by two years." -- All Music Guide

DILA Dila LP
Far Out Recordings presents a reissue of the first and only album from the mysterious Brazilian vocal sensation Dila (pronounced "Jee-la"). Having reportedly died in a car crash shortly after the album's release in 1971, there is very little known about the woman behind the voice. But the joyous music Dila left behind gives us a picture as good as any, of a powerful feminine soul at the top of her game. The liner notes on the elusive original LP, written by composer Arnoldo Medeiros attest: "Friend, look out! Because when this girl starts to sing, you're in trouble. Hold the railing so you don't fall down the stairs, because she's coming this way and shaking up everything." Arranged and produced by Durval Ferreira, alongside his studio band affectionately known as Os Grillos (The Crickets), Dila is a rare glimpse into the authentic soulful samba sound of Rio's favelas in the late sixties and early seventies. A blast of funky, percussive Brazilian breaks, scorching hot brass, and swing-laden piano, the music is as iconic as the album's stark cover, as is clear on opener "Inez," composed by The Crickets bassist Romildo. There's a fantastic interpretation of the Ivan Lins classic "Madalena" (made famous by Elis Regina), a moving version of the Tom Jobim and Vinicius De Moraes classic "O Morro Não Tem Vez," and a number of sunny original compositions by Madeiros, whose other writing credits include music for Marcos Valle, Wanderlea, Evinha, and Dom Salvador. With original LPs extremely hard to come by, this rare treasure of Brazilian soul, which fans of Gal Costa, Celia, Evinha and Elis Regina will love, gets a much-deserved official reissue. Personnel: Durval Ferreira - guitar; Sidney Marzullo - piano; Romildo - bass; Fernando - drums; Horacio - percussion; Christ - brass. 180 gram vinyl.

SCIENTISTS, THE Not For Sale: Live 1978/79 2LP
"The Scientists' pre-Swampland days in Perth are brilliantly encapsulated on this collection of mostly unreleased live material from '78 and '79. These were the days when former Victims and future Hoodoo Gurus drummer James Baker led the band alongside guitarist/singer Kim Salmon, and when their poster read 'Rock 'n' Roll in the tradition of The Groovies and The Heartbreakers'. The Perth-based line-up recorded the brilliant 'Frantic Romantic' single and self-titled EP highlighted by 'Last Night'. They also recorded a posthumously released LP -- the 'pink album' -- which came as a massive disappointment due to bad production and a reduced line-up. Not For Sale: Live 1978/79 is a collection of live and rehearsal tracks that captures the band making the same noises as on those 45s, and presents live versions of the fan faves and vastly superior versions of most of the LP tracks as well as coughing up a bunch of hitherto unreleased originals and covers to boot. This is 'The Legendary Scientists' -- as they were dubbing themselves within months of forming -- as they should be heard. The main set comes from late 1979: a live-to-air broadcast from Melbourne's 3RRR. The same line-up is also present on a handful of primitive live recordings, made by a friend at one of the group's regular haunts, the Governor Broome Hotel in '79. Play this really loud and it sounds like right there in the pub, shitty PA and all. Packaged with rare and unseen images, an original 1979 Roadrunner magazine feature by Kim Williams (of the Summer Suns, and co-writer of Swampland) and additional notes by Grown Up Wrong's Dave Laing. This collection provides a thrilling glimpse into what an album by the 'Legendary' Scientists might've sounded like if it had been recorded in 1979. With the current incarnation of the band touring the US again and performing the likes of 'Last Night' and 'Frantic Romantic', this is an essential listen for all Scientists fans, no matter which line-up they prefer."

MORGAN'S POWERTRANE WITH DENIZ TEK & RON ASHETON, SCOTT Ann Arbour Revival Meeting 2LP
Double LP version. "Living up to its title, Ann Arbor Revival Meeting is a cross-generational project from 2002 that brings to life Ann Arbor and Detroit's rock legacy through a combination of some of its key protagonists. Scott Morgan, who leads the band at the core of the record, Powertrane, goes back to mid '60s days, to The Rationals, who ruled the local teen scene alongside the likes of Bob Seger and The Last Heard. In the '70s, he fronted the seminal Sonic's Rendezvous Band, alongside Fred 'Sonic' Smith of the MC5 and Scott Asheton of The Stooges. Deniz Tek, guest for the entire show, is an Ann Arbor native who spent most of the '70s in Sydney and led the mighty Radio Birdman. Ron Asheton, the special guest who appears playing guitar on the handful of Stooges tunes here is the man who played on them originally, the great and sadly now late guitar innovator who was at the core of The Stooges' huge influence across of the '70s and beyond. Representing the younger generation are Powertrane's rhythm section Andrew 'Box' Taylor on bass, who instigated the band's shows with Tek and Asheton, and Andy Frost, a great drummer who sadly passed away in 2010, had been mentored by Scott Asheton. Additionally, local identities Robert Gillespie and Hiawatha Bailey are present. Robert Gillespie is Powertrane's regular lead guitarist, a long time sideman for original R&B belter Mitch Rider and a former member of Rob Tyner's new MC5 in the late '70s. Hiawatha, who sings a couple of the Stooges covers, was a Stooges roadie back in the day and later front man of local punk-rockers The Cult Heroes in the late '70s and '80s. Originally released on CD only by Real O-Mind Records in 2002, this is one of the great live albums."

GAUNIN, NICOLAS Noa Noa Noa LP
Nicolas Gaunin's surreal sound experiments lift you out of the everyday and transport you to an off-world Tiki lounge set high amongst the tree tops of a tropical rainforest, where you're surrounded by bizarre, colorful creatures, and weird psychotropic plants. Noa Noa Noa is modern Dada, a neon soundtrack to your most outlandish fever dreams. Nicolas Gaunin is the alter ego of Nicola Sanguin, part of the vibrant experimental music scene around Padua, Italy where he plays in outsider rock groups The Lay Llamas and Orange Car Crash. Nicolas Gaunin is his solo electronic project, a bright and playful cosmic mash-up that uses the rhythms of traditional African percussion groups and skews them slightly to create unsettling, off-kilter grooves. These drum machine experiments are laid over a teeming microscopic sound world of bird calls, insect chatter and weird jingles reminiscent of advertising earworms or video game soundtracks. Noa Noa Noa takes its influences from music from around the world, and inspiration from high and low culture; from composer Gyorgy Ligeti to the cosmic sounds of Italian DJ Danielle Baldelli, from the experimental music of Moondog or Harry Partch to the playful sounds of Francis Bebey or the exotica of Martin Denny, from Iannis Xenakis to 8-bit video game music. Noa Noa Noa ends up sounding something like the imaginary soundtrack to the Nintendo Gameboy version of a lost William S. Burroughs novel. Incredibly, most of the tracks on Noa Noa Noa were recorded live in one take with the express intention of creating music that is, in contrast to much of today's electronic music, bright, sunny, light-hearted and mischievous. The resulting album is both totally essential and also completely throwaway. These tracks were originally released in 2018 by Artetetra Records (Italy) as Noa Noa (cassette and digital) and Danse de l'Oiseau (digital only). Hive Mind Records present Noa Noa Noa on vinyl for the first time.

Daring to grasp the nettle of US geopolitics at a time when nobody else would (and that hasn't really changed), Vatican Shadow hijacked imagery and text from a plethora of news articles, books and government publications, and used them to adorn and title his all-instrumental compositions, re-contextualising U.S. foreign policy in a way that recalls how original industrial, noise, and post-punk mutants used their art and music to express feelings towards the cold war and western socio-economics during the late '70s and thru the '80s -- with a particular, explicit thread of inspiration coming from Bryn Jones' prolific Muslimgauze catalog. The first LP contains all four cuts from Vatican Shadow's first release, Byzantine Private CIA, taking in the cold thuds and clamoring background noise of "Deny Military Involvement" alongside highlights in the militant trample of "Cairo Sword Unsheathed" and the sludgy industrial dirge of "Gunman With Silencer". The second LP follows with three tracks off Mural of Saddam, including the brittle, Muslimgauze-like stepper "Schwarzkopf Arc of Triumph", and the furtive trip hop of "U.S. M1A1 Abrams Exhaust Rises Between The Hands Of Victory", before concluding with some the project's most sublime work in the opiated lushness of "Shadow War In Yemen" and "Asymetric Warfare Studies Group Double Game" from the Yemeni Commandos tape. Sounding more compelling than ever, thanks to the remastering at Dubplates & Mastering, and with original tapes now impossible to find for love nor money, these vinyl pressings of early VS gear are practically worth their weight in gold.

MERZBOW & VANITY PRODUCTIONS Coastal Erosion LP
On their riveting debut collaboration, Merzbow (Masami Akita) and Posh Isolation's Vanity Productions (Christian Stadsgaard) transmute worries about ecological disaster into a torrent of spirit-gnawing, experimental noise that surpasses the sum of its parts. Both hailing from places with a lot of coastline vulnerable to sea level rises, Masami Akita from Japan, and Stadsgaard in Denmark, Coastal Erosion sees them grasp the nettle of impending doom with typically gauntleted grip and an unswerving intensity that speaks to clear and present concerns. While perhaps not the most obvious bedfellows for collaboration, the artists patently share an emphatic empathy for the situation that resonates through their music, where human forces of emotion intersect elemental chaos in a pair of poetically tempestuous, even harrowing works. Merzbow's visceral, primal roar sustains a perpetual force of attrition that constantly threatens to overwhelm VP's widescreen, panoramic pads on both of the LP's monolithic tracts. But it's due to their democracy of vision that they speak as one, rather than over each other. In the A side's 18 minutes of "Erosion Japan", they connote the frothing might of the Pacific tide encroaching and destroying towering walls of steel and glass with an arrestingly Ballardian quality to their instrumental description of violence and anguish. The B side's 17 minute "Erosion Denmark" follows with a more pensive arrangement of low-lying, unyielding drone frequencies smeared to stereo extremes and overlapped with spirit-penetrating shards of distortion, limning the prospective submergence of the Danish peninsula and its archipelagoes with a Thunbergian seriousness and intractable logic. Taken as a profound warning or as an elegy for Anthropocene extinction, Coastal Erosion is a frighteningly powerful statement that leaves its message like the murky stain of flood waters inside the mind. Mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering. Edition of 300.

MELCHIOR BAND, DAN Negative Freedom LP
"Recorded in Philadelphia in late 2016, Negative Freedom encapsulates the moment when the horrible truth was just beginning to sink in. 'Everything got broken while I was looking the other way' sings Dan Melchior on 'Negative Freedom' and perhaps that's a relatable sentiment. Elsewhere Melchior's ever-withering gaze settles on prima donna self-googlers in 'They Insulted Me In Mojo' and self-serving promoters get their own anthem in 'A Nice Holiday' -- 'Be careful of enthusiasts who want you to play their island' sings Melchior, with a sense of weary experience that makes the song seem like it might just be autobiographical. The rhythm section on this recording consists of two former members of Taiwan Housing Project (Adam Charles Cooper on bass and Pat Ganley on drums). They manage to lay down a solid but decidedly streamlined groove that perfectly complements the songs. 'This Is One' utilizes a re-discovered drum track laid down by the legendary Letha Rodman Melchior to great effect."

CFM Soundtrack To An Empty Room LP
LP version. "Charles Moothart is releasing his third album under the moniker CFM. It's called Soundtrack To An Empty Room and keeps it cookin' off 2016's Still Life Of Citrus And Slime and 2017's Dichotomy Desaturated. Moothart is a frequent contributor on many of Ty Segall's solo ventures but also as a co-conspirator in bands like the blazing jam unit Fuzz, and a fantastic monster of a group called GØGGS, which throws Segall and Moothart in with Chris Shaw of Ex-Cult. Something that's immediately apparent on this album is that it's a harder record than its predecessors. The shift isn't subtle but it is tremendously cool. A lot of the material was written while Moothart was on tour with Segall and working on the GØGGS Pre Strike Sweep album. The first two CFM efforts gave Moothart the experience to work effectively on his own in the studio, the live shows infuse this with the confidence and attitude that comes from a lot of nights playing where there are no second takes. It is an exciting follow up and further proof that Moothart is one of those people with a lot of music in him."

VA Jumping With Mr Lee: Reggae Classics From The Vault Of Bunny "Striker" Lee CD
The period of 1967-1968 when rocksteady was in full flow, would also be a turning point for Bunny "Striker" Lee, when he became a producer in his own right. Many of the great tunes during this eventful year came out of his stable and initially saw the light of day on his own imprint label "Lee's". Jumping With Mr. Lee has been assembled from some of those fine tunes and tells the story of reggae in what was a stellar time for both reggae and Mr Bunny Lee. Edward "Bunny" Lee, later to become known as "Striker", got his introduction to the music business around 1962 when his future brother in law singer Derrick Morgan introduced Bunny to producer Duke Reid, who gave him a job as record plugger for his Treasure Isle label. 1966 saw Bunny Lee move on to working for producer Ken Lack who ran his own label Caltone. As stated earlier, by 1967 Bunny Lee was leading the way and his vast stable of singers, were producing hit after hit for him -- many of those artists are featured on this compilation. The Sensations' "Long Time Me No See You Girl", The Uniques which featured the great Slim Smith are here on some of their greatest cuts "Love and Devotion", "The Beatitude", and "Girls Like Dirt". "My Conversation", a song that would be a big hit for the Uniques, would also go on to be of the most covered songs and redone over rhythms, in the history of reggae music. The great singer Pat Kelly features on "Somebody's Baby" and "Little Boy Blue" all massive hits, when originally released. Bunny's love of jazz and the brass sections would also shine through with some of Jamaica's finest musicians featured here with the excellent tenor sax work of Val Bennett which provided the album title track "Jumping With Mr Lee" and "Jumping With Val". The alto sax work of Lester Sterling is featured on the timeless cut "Bangerang" and "Tribute To Scratch". The big sound of trombonist Vin Gordon features on "Sounds And Soul". Not forgetting the previously mentioned king of ska Derrick Morgan on "Hold Your Jack", a song that in a few years' time would provide the backbone for Mr Max Romeo's cross over and controversial hit "Wet Dream". A fine collection of tracks from the great producer Bunny "Striker" Lee. Also features Winston "Stranger" Cole, Pat Kelly, and Ken Parker. CD version includes four tracks featuring Slim Smith and The Uniques, Roy Shirley, Webber Sisters, and Glen Adams.

CASHMORE, MICHAEL The Doctrine Of Transformation Through Love 1 CD
"Michael Cashmore is an English composer and musician currently living in Berlin. He has created music under the name of Nature And Organisation since the early '80s and more recently (2006) under his own name. He is widely known as being the composer of the most seminal albums of legendary post industrial group Current 93 during a 25 year period, he has also worked with, and wrote music for, Nick Cave, Marc Almond, Anohni (Antony and the Johnsons) Tony Visconti, Bill Fay among others. During the last 2 years Cashmore has been undergoing a process of personal Transformation which has also caused a transformation of his work, Michael has also been using his music itself as a tool of transformation in return. His new album The Doctrine Of Transformation Through Love I is the first part of a series of works that will document Cashmore's personal transformation from 2017 onwards. The music here is now very experimental, electronic, melodic and could be seen to have a dark connection to techno. The album features vocals and text by Cashmore's current collaborator, Lithuanian born Occultist and enigma Shaltmira, and as a strong contrast to the rest of the album the last track features a simple melodic song with the legendary English singer songwriter Bill Fay. This album is an eternal journey through darkness, space and loneliness through love into light ... The album comes with a four-page booklet with all new artwork from Cashmore and consists of 13 tracks."

TROGGS, THE Live On Air - Volume Two - '67-'68 LP
Dismissed by critics, shunned by historians, reviled by some, The Troggs were the first primal punk antidote to a bourgeois pop scene with too many teenage idols. Their primitive pop sensibility was a major influence on the '70s punk movement, particularly the Ramones, Iggy Pop, MC5, Sex Pistols, and R.E.M. who've cited The Troggs as a major influence. In 1977, the Beatles and the Stones were dismissed by the punks while the Troggs were embraced. Between their hits "Wild Thing", "With A Girl Like You", and "Love Is All Around", the Troggs made 12 appearances for the BBC courtesy of host Brian Matthew. Stand aside for a defining chapter in British rock as we unearth the raw Neanderthal sound of the Troggs live at the BBC from May 1967 to September 1968. Stunningly re-mastered here from the original transcription discs, with background liners, original interviews, anecdotes, and a plethora of rare original memorabilia. PALMISTRY Afterlife LP
Palmistry is the project of London-based vocalist, songwriter, and producer Benjy Keating, known for his stripped-back pop and forward-thinking production. His second album Afterlife was written in a heatsick haze in Athens, Greece and the Mixpak Studios in Brooklyn, NY. The album further pushes his knack for intimate and heartfelt earworms that grapple with disconnection, devotion and the emotions in between. While his debut album PAGAN (2016) was a self-contained effort, with Afterlife, Palmistry cracks the door open to some accomplished friends who bring their own colors and textures to his singular world. There's the woozy anthem "Water" produced by SOPHIE, "Tru Luv", a duet with Miami-based vocalist Toian and produced by Benny Blanco, as well as assistance from Ghanaian artist Klu, Cashmere Cat, and Mechatok. Afterlife is pop at the edges, with poetry at the core, evoking bodily sensations, lucid dream states and fractured memories -- the slice of an orange, the patter of rain on a car roof and the crushing weight of city life.

JAIKISHAN, SHANKAR Raga Jazz Style LP
Repressed. Never before reissued, this legendary 1968 EMI recording is a revered Indian jazz rarity; a collectors' holy grail. Raga Jazz Style is an original Indian excursion into Indo-jazz fusion. A one-away recording from the almost unknown Bombay jazz scene, it is among the few jazz LPs to hail from the subcontinent. Closely contemporary with the UK-based explorations of Amancio D'Silva, John Mayer, and Joe Harriott, Raga Jazz Style takes the melodic, scale-based raga system of Indian classical music and marries it with a swinging jazz rhythm section assembled by Bollywood's most highly acclaimed musical directors, the soundtrack composing duo Shankar Singh and Jaikishan Panchal. Singh and Panchal were a dominant force in Hindi film music from the late 1940s onwards. Shankar had been trained in classical tabla, while Jaikishan was an expert harmonium player. They worked together on well over a hundred films, and their innovative compositions and orchestral scoring revolutionized the music of the nascent Bollywood industry. Central to their sound was regular collaborator Sebastian D'Souza. Originally from Goa, D'Souza had cut his teeth in the dance-band era, arranging and playing with his uncle's jazz bands in Lahore and Quetta. After Partition, he had moved to Bombay to follow the reliable work provided by the film industry, where Goan musicians had become the mainstay of Bollywood's film studio orchestras. Goans were also the core of Bombay's thriving dance-hall and hotel-based jazz scene, with artists including saxophonist Braz Gonsalves, guitarist Amancio D'Silva and trumpeter Chic Chocolate all working in the city during the post-war years. The team assembled for Raga Jazz Style were drawn from this inventive and forward-thinking milieu. Pianist Lucilla Pacheco, saxophonist Manohari Singh, and guitarist Anibal Castro were all fixtures on the Bombay jazz circuit, while drummer Leslie Godinho is reputed to have taught Joe Morello the 5/4 "Take Five" beat when they jammed together during Dave Brubeck's State Department tour of India. To this jazz backbone was added the sitar of Ustad Rais Khan, scion of long line of classical instrumentalists, and nephew of the renowned sitarist Ustad Vilayat Khan. Bombay's jazz modernists had been experimenting with the fusion of ragas and jazz since the 1950s, long before American or British jazz musicians had tuned in to Indian classical music. But very little of this exciting scene was ever captured on record. Reissued using the original masters. Facsimile artwork; 180 gram vinyl pressed at Pallas, in Germany.

FLOWER TRAVELLIN' BAND Satori LP
2019 repress. Deluxe LP format; 180 gram pressing. Reissue of the second Flower Travellin' Band album, originally issued by Atlantic Records in Japan in 1971. Satori is a conceptual hard rock/psych album driven by Hideki Ishima's furious guitar licks which erupt and explode over the harmonic heart beat of the drums and bass. Yamanaka's banshee-like vocal style turned him into an occidental Iggy Pop or Robert Plant while the band itself was rapidly becoming Japan's answer to Led Zeppelin. Satori is a huge album in every way. From power chords to Eastern-tinged North African six-string freak-outs and crashing tom-toms, the band flexes its collective muscle from start to finish. In short, this is a real rock classic of the type they simply don't make any more.

WARISH Runnin' Scared/Their Demise 7"
"Imagine if Incesticide-era Nirvana were crossed with Static Age-era garage-punk Misfits -- a sinister low-budget horror rock with visceral, twisted weirdness and bludgeoning riffs. Some might call it nightmarish, Riding Easy calls it Warish. Warish is a very newly minted SoCal trio formed in early 2018 that has wasted no time making its presence known. The band formed when guitarist/vocalist and pro-skater Riley Hawk (son of skating legend Tony Hawk) and drummer Bruce McDonnell decided they wanted to try their hand at something more distinct than they'd done previously. Here is their second EP Running Scared/Their Demise. Their sound takes cues from a variety of cool underground sounds and twists it all into an energetic and exciting fist to the face of dark fury. Hawk's effect-laden vocals hearken to early Butthole Surfers and David Yow's tortured caterwaul in Scratch Acid. The guitars are heavy and powerful, though decidedly not straightforward cookie-cutter punk; more like Cobain's and Buzz Osbourne's wiry contortions. The rhythms bash and pummel right through it all with aggressive force ensuring that nothing gets overly complicated and the horrors keep coming throughout the band's warlike assault."

MUNGO'S HI FI X EVA LAZARUS More Fyah LP
LP version. Glasgow-based soundsystem and production unit, Mungo's Hi Fi, announce More Fyah, a stunning collaboration with UK singer and MC, Eva Lazarus. A genre-melding masterpiece, More Fyah traverses between reggae, dub, dancehall, and other bass flavors. Eva seamlessly tackles every track with her unique lyrical flow and wide vocal range, matched by Mungo's infectious signature sound. From the rocksteady relick of "Dub Be Good To Me", the ragga mash-up title track, the summery riddims of "Light As A Feather", featuring London reggae artist Kiko Bun, to the roots sampling "Babylon Raid", featuring Jamaican reggae legend Max Romeo, Mungo's have a sound that is deeply rooted in dub and reggae's lineage, backed by the sharp, sassy, and slick vocals of Eva Lazarus.Raised out of one of the most musically creative cities in the UK, Mungo's Hi Fi have made a massive contribution to Glasgow's musical story with a respectful nod to Jamaican sound system tradition. Founded in 2000, Mungo's was formed by two like-minded DJs, inspired by the free party scene but following the Jamaican tradition of King Tubby and Jah Shaka. True to reggae/dancehall's DIY ethos, they built their first sound from speakers found in a skip and began producing on an old Atari. They founded the Scotch Bonnet Records label in 2005. Today Mungo's Hi Fi's three DJs, Craig, Doug and Tom play all over the world, assisted by the team at Scotch Bonnet Records: all committed to spreading their philosophy of serious, seismic productions plus easy-going democratic dancehall fun. Highly collaborative, they've worked on remix projects with Leftfield, Coldcut, Submotion Orchestra, Kahn, and Prince Fatty in the UK to Major Lazer in the US and are currently expanding links with East African Records based in Uganda. This is Eva's first full-length album, having recently featured on tracks with Swindle, Zed Bias, Jus Now, and Gentlemans Dub Club. A multi-genre artist, she has been making waves worldwide.

Clock DVA's earlier electronic experimental work is fragmented and incomplete. To see the whole picture, the Horology collections are essential in mapping the formulation and the morphology of Clock DVA, and the occult influence which was derived from their work. Four-LP box comes in slipcase folder on black Vinyl; Includes shirt.

VA Wim's - Driven By Music 3LP
2015 has been a year of anniversaries and honors for Wim Wenders, a year full of photography exhibitions and film retrospectives, a year with a big round birthday milestone right at its center, and Wim's 70th birthday. A group of admiring co-conspirators threw in together to make him a very special birthday gift, a triple-LP record album on time-honored vinyl, full of songs that harbor a deep connection to Wim Wenders, to his life and his work. The album bears the title Wim's - Driven By Music and is a compilation featuring many of Wim's musical companions and friends. The idea arose out of Wim Wenders's circle of friends and immediate family to give the filmmaker, notorious for his passion for music, a very special gift for his birthday, by presenting him with a record on vinyl produced especially for him. To make this idea a reality, various bands, musicians, and artists, friends of Wim's, were asked whether they would like to contribute one of their songs to this birthday album. Among these pieces there are some that have already appeared on soundtracks to several Wenders films, though there are also new mixes of songs or entirely new ones here, which can only be heard on the album Wim's - Driven By Music. Over the entire time, his friends had to go to great lengths to make sure our little project remained top secret. Wisely avoiding the project name "Operation Birthday Album", they opted instead to fly under the radar with the purposely snore-inducing tag "Music Rights Clarification III" -- the only thing that may not have escaped his notice entirely, though a phrase that was meant to communicate as much ennui as possible, in order not to arouse any curiosity in case someone left a file lying around somewhere. Inner sleeves in gold embossed triple gatefold; Liner notes from Nick Cave, Calexico, Bonnie Prince Billy, Bono (U2), Irmin Schmidt (Can), Mark Oliver Everett (The Eels), Jun Miyake, Laurent Petitgand, amongst others.Features Portishead, Calexico, Jürgen Knieper, Crime & The City Solution, Bryan Ferry, Bonnie Prince Billy, Ry Cooder, Texas, Irmin Schmidt, New World Renaissance Band, BAP, Axel Linstädt, Get Well Soon, Lou Reed, Sibylle Baier, Mick Harvey, Die Toten Hosen, U2, Travis, Patti Smith, Thom, Monta, The Eels, Lovegrove, Pal Flata, Sqürl, Radiohead, Laurent Petitgand, Roxy Music, Can, Laurie Anderson, Nick Cave, And The Golden Choir, Pieta Brown, Lovegrove, Gemma Ray, Jun Miyake, and Wim (the band).
