MAXIMUM JOY Station M.X.J.Y. LP
"A focal point for the unique punk-funk that was coming together in Bristol as the bridge from the '70s to the '80s arrived, Maximum Joy was formed by Glaxo Babies multi-instrumentalist Tony Wrafter and 18 year-old vocalist Janine Rainforth. Soon they drafted in additional Glaxo Babies in the form of drummer Charlie Llewellin and bassist Dan Catsis, along with guitarist John Waddington, fresh from The Pop Group. The group set about making a one-of-a-kind mix of funk, punk, pop, jazz, dub, soul, afrobeat and reggae; creating a brilliant burst of danceable tunes wrapped around elastic basslines and complex percussion, punctuated by melodic horns and stabs of guitar, all of it highlighting Rainforth's naturally enthusiastic vocal style. They immediately took their place on the rosters of influential labels like Y and 99 with iconic debut single 'Stretch', as the band had clearly captured something special. Entering 1982, Kevin Evans had replaced Catsis as Maximum Joy set out to make what would be their only full length LP. Recording at Berry Street and The Lodge with producers Adrian Sherwood (On-U-Sound legend), Dave Hunt (the Flying Lizards and This Heat) and Pete Wooliscroft (Kate Bush, Talk Talk, Peter Gabriel and OMD,) the band would mix practiced grooves with imaginative improvisation. The results were absolutely jaw-dropping."

HELDON Un Reve Sans Consequence Speciale LP
LP version. Bureau B present a reissue of Heldon's Un Rêve Sans Conséquence Spéciale, originally released in 1976. Heldon's Richard Pinhas has never been shy of pinpointing his influences while, at the same time, making music that is noticeably distinct from any of his designated sources. He has, for instance, made it clear that a significant font of inspiration was Robert Fripp's guitar style and melding of rock music with cutting-edge electronics (especially in collaboration with Brian Eno). Indeed, Heldon's fifth album, Un Rêve Sans Conséquence Spéciale, was named after a live bootleg of a King Crimson concert. Pinhas first met Fripp in 1974, and the pair became friends and have remained in contact ever since. Pinhas was even offered a deal with E.G. Records, the company that oversaw King Crimson alongside other successful groups like Roxy Music and ELP. "That was a dream," says Pinhas. "But when you are 22, you are in a hurry. They asked me to wait one or two years before joining the team. I couldn't wait two years!" Instead, Pinhas launched his own label, Disjuncta, which he later sold to purchase the Moog synthesizer that would make a huge difference to Heldon's sound. Heldon's output also drew from radical science fiction (Philip K. Dick, Norman Spinrad, etc.) as well as philosophy: the sleeve features a quote from Pierre Klossowski's Nietzsche and the Vicious Circle (1969). Heldon never represented a mere facsimile of Pinhas's musical touchstones: King Crimson, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, or Frank Zappa. Heldon was always its own beast and by 1976 it was thriving and roaring like never before. More work was being completed in a proper studio, the Moog helped strengthen the sound and direction, and Pinhas's rotating cast of collaborators was solidifying into something resembling a regular lineup, with François Auger on drums and Patrick Gauthier on synthesizers. The result was a darker, heavier, and more intense sound. The LP opens with the prog-gone-skronk onslaught of "Marie Virginie C", sounding rather like Robert Fripp being sliced into bloody chunks in Thurston Moore's basement. Auger is the star of "Elephanta", in all its Moog-assisted polyrhythmic glory. On side two, "MVC II" offers six minutes of sinister dystopian squelch rock. It's followed by "Toward The Red Line", an epic piece conceivably serving to connect the dots between Hawkwind's most freeform passages and the Detroit techno innovations of the coming decade.

HELDON 6 - Interface LP
LP version. Bureau B present a reissue of Heldon's 6 - Interface, originally released in 1977. A brilliant moment occurs right at the end of Heldon's sixth album, Interface. The album's final song, its side-long title track, builds up slowly into a roaring tornado of fiercely mutating drum patterns, effervescent synth work, and guitar licks that wail into the atmosphere like an abandoned astronaut. Then, after nearly 19 minutes of highly futuristic avant-garde space rock, this ultramodern music fades out and is replaced by a concluding few seconds of traditional blues-rock guitar. "We were finishing the track, the tape was rolling, and I started to play a normal boogie or whatever," remembers Heldon leader Richard Pinhas. "I think it was a good idea to keep it. It just came naturally, at the end." This event acts as a reminder of just how far rock n' roll had been transformed since its earliest incarnations. This blueprint had been jolted and nudged down all kinds of unexpected avenues after players like Chuck Berry and Bill Haley first found fame. The genre had branched out into every manner of mutated form. It had given rise to misshapen clones and had shifted into unrecognizable shapes, like a beautiful alien creature from one of the science fiction tales that were fondly admired by so many experimental rock musicians, Pinhas included. Heldon, surely, represented one of rock n' roll's most distant relatives; an innovative fusion of avant-garde rock sounds and synthesizer pulsations. At the same time, Interface's unexpected ending also tells us that such music, however improvisatory or fused with electronic elements, will forever have its roots in those early rock n' roll records that are responsible for so many varieties of aural exploration. Thanks to the increased presence of drummer François Auger and synth/Moog man Patrick Gauthier, Pinhas's project had solidified into a harder and heavier unit. Around the time of the album's release, the musician and composer Jean-Philippe Goude told Pinhas that because of its merging of synthesizer sounds with "real" instrumentation. Despite its often warm and near-funky feel, Interface has been cited as an influence on key industrial and noise musicians including Wolf Eyes and Merzbow.

HELDON Stand By LP
LP version. Bureau B present a reissue of Heldon's seventh and final album of the 1970s Stand By, originally released in 1979. After the release of Stand By, Richard Pinhas focused on solo LPs before quitting music for around a decade. "It was the end of the tale," he explains. "We decided to split for many reasons. The main one was that one or two of the other musicians wanted to stop. They were session musicians, mainly. At one point they said they didn't have so much time to give. And it was a time when a lot of bands who had become reluctantly successful decided to split . . . Split at the top, not waiting to go down." Heldon certainly went out on a high. Stand By's mood remains urgent and gripping throughout, fashioned via immense synthesizer sounds, a plethora of interweaving drum patterns, spiraling guitar chops, and lurching riffs. It's been likened to krautrock, yet Pinhas never paid attention to the German scene. There are other similarities to parallel innovations that John Carpenter was making in the field of sci-fi/horror soundtracks. The hazmat-suit-wearing figure on Stand By's cover could have starred in such a movie. The album's unearthly vocals were provided by Klaus Blasquiz of Magma. Some progressive musicians of the '70s felt threatened by the rise of punk -- Not Pinhas. As producer, he worked with French punk acts like Asphalt Jungle. No, Pinhas was more troubled by wider world developments. These miseries played their own part in Heldon's demise. "We recorded Stand By in '78, going into '79. Politics had all shifted to the right with your Maggie Thatcher and, in America, that very bad actor. They started the bullshit of neoliberalism that we have to live with now, everywhere. We're going to be in a very fascistic world within twenty years. Not even that long. The initiation of this change came with Reagan and Maggie. It started in the '80s." Stand By was recorded at Studio Davout, the Parisian home to recordings by everyone from Karlheinz Stockhausen to Johnny Hallyday. That, too, has fallen victim to brutal economics. It was demolished in 2018. "They destroyed the main historical studio in France to put up a supermarket!" says Pinhas. "It was a place where a lot of things happened. Musicians were working all night long. It could've been a museum for music."

CEL (FELIX KUBIN & HUBERT ZEMLER) CEL (Felix Kubin & Hubert Zemler) CD
Some will know Felix Kubin as the Janus-faced poltergeist of retrofuture electronic dance music. To others, he is an award-winning radio dramatist, an arranger of complex orchestral and big band compositions. Contemporary experimental musicians see him as the personification of pop desire. For producers of pop and club music, meanwhile, he is a tree trunk, spanning the deep gorge between them and high culture. One thing they can all agree on: when Kubin shows up, concrete and plastic melt. Born in 1980, Hubert Zemler enrolled at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in his home town of Warsaw in 1999. His classical training encompassed jazz, contemporary music, and improvisation, positioning the drummer, percussionist and composer as a congenial counterweight to Kubin's ludicrous electronica. The debut album from this German-Polish duo CEL is a test laboratory for rhythmic cadences and electrostatic discharges. Under the expert guidance of Hamburg producer Tobias Levin, they have created seven self-contained instrumentals enriched by vibraphone, xylophone, and African percussion. Zemler's stripped down mechanics and Kubin's erratic electronics dovetail superbly. A sense of concentrated restlessness pervades the album -- in the greater stream of things, some tracks come close to bursting their banks whilst others scale the loftiest heights of insanity. And yet, every movement, every tone fits perfectly. There is method to the madness, an exercise in systematic excess. A disconcerting electronic pulse traces a filtered path through "Ping Korridor". In the space of something over ten minutes the atmosphere shifts from oppressiveness to openness. Indeed, unexpected twists lurk in many of the tracks, ensnaring the listener's undivided attention. On the contrary, it's full speed ahead with eyes wide open, deeper and deeper into the affair. Ghostly synths shimmer through "Lichtton", punctuated by minimalist drums. No wave skeletons dance to the jagged rhythms of "Elektryba?t". "Funkenkammer" is an acid monster dedicated to shredding your nerves. "Jimmy Carter" sends shockwaves across the dancefloor, causing bodies and objects to collide. You may ask: "how is such a thing humanly possible? How can something so angular, so intrinsically Teutonic, groove so wildly?" This album sees Felix Kubin push his sound generators to the outer limits of the frequency spectrum. Hubert Zemler delivers wonderfully forceful, machine-like beats and dark sonic collages. An album that sounds as if it has always existed as a source of inspiration to generations of musicians. A timeless classic.

KEDAMA The Complete Collection 3LP
"Three thick LPs of hot jellied kraut-prog heavies coming at you from 1970s Swiss-German based Kedama: three LPs of 'live' in-the-studio and actual live recordings -- unbelievably telekinetic drums, keys and guitar. Vision quest soundscapes, a total gem lost to the ages here, y'all. The first LP was reissued by Geurrson Records a while back, the other two LPs are unreleased on wax as of yet: rarities and live oddities. It's been a real pleasure to work with these guys, as they were as excited as we were and provided us with a plethora of recordings and photos and press clippings to sort through, to pull together this nice little set. It's raw, like you like it after a few. It's heavy, so you can nod as you sway along the path. It's beautiful, so you can reminisce. It's winding, so your imagination is blindfolded. It's far-flung space jams so you can fry out. It's screwed-down genius so you can be inspired. This shit is far out and a real-deal old school fuse lighter and its limited to 1000 copies. Nice, never seen before photos of the gurus, so come and get it nerds! For fans of Le Orme, Yes, Birth Control, Camel, Edgar Froese, ELP, King Crimson." --John Dwyer

TELLO, TOMAS Cimora LP
Over the last decade, multi-instrumentalist Tomás Tello has been developing his own personal music style based around an exploration of the guitar and his intense personal investigation of traditional Peruvian music -- in particular Andean culture which he grew up with. Now operating out of Tavira, Tomás has been functioning like a psychic musician, a well-tuned antenna picking a unique sound universe where, among others, sounds of native instruments (quenas, drums, charangos) and experimental electronics (field recordings, loops, circuit bending, small synths, and effects pedals) merge in mystic harmony. Tomás delivers meditative compositions, sonic illuminations which seem to be the result of a direct act of contemplation, of glaring at the immensity of a landscape, a river or the proximity of strange wild animals, a vision calling that, with the aid of medicinal plants, offers a state of consciousness in tune with the early works of envisioned artists such as Arturo Ruiz del Pozo, Jorge Reyes, or Walter Maioli. Tomás Tello's music is an invitation to listen to nature from a new place. It's timeless music, which enraptures those who have the joy of entering it. Artwork by Evan Crankshaw and Raleigh Gardiner. Mastered and cut by Rashad Becker.

NOIR, JIM A.M Jazz CD
Jim Noir's A.M Jazz is a multi-layered album that features close friends including those dearly departed. 15 years since he recorded the first ever Jim Noir EP, A.M Jazz is the record all Noirheads won't be surprised Al Roberts had inside him. Letting the Beatlesesque stylings of his most recent album Finnish Line be (2014), A.M Jazz suits the Noir repertoire of his catalog so far and is another homegrown offering which sees the Davyhulme composer tinkering in his suburban Manchester studio once more. Whilst writing and creating with friends, he has worked on electronic pet project, FAX with former Alfie guitarist, Ian Smith, and the vintage analog house meets electro sound of his own solo EP Granada Personnel Recovery, as well as producing local band, Shaking Chainsor, and helping long-time musical colleague, Aidan Smith. Never not sonically exploring or being inspired by the sounds around him, there was even a red-carpet moment when he appeared as a film premier guest after a couple of his songs were selected for the OST of director Jason Wingard's film Eaten By Lions (2018). Performing all A.M Jazz's instrumental parts himself but also, at the right moment, bringing in present and past pals along the way, sexy lounge song, "Hexagons" features Phil Anderson and Mark Williamson singing and playing "legendary OTT guitar solo" respectively. Meanwhile the orchestration of "Peppergone" waltzes like a beautifully romantic ode to Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata -- a tribute to dearly departed best friend Batfinks who originally wrote the chords in his song "Peppercorn". Culled from around 50 tunes, A.M Jazz moves like the time of the day, from dawn to night, stirring from the pop of "Good Mood" and the Beta Band groove of "Upside Down". Mellow "TOL Circle" is like Percy Faith's "Theme From A Summer Place" synthesized, capturing the style of TV library music or movie soundtrack obscurity that has always stirred Al's curiosity, and the album plunges into a vast chasm of instrumental exploration with "Mystermoods", visiting Japan's funky synth whiz duo Testpattern and Hakabashi Sakamoto. Darkening and deepening in intensity, "Eggshell" is like an undiscovered gem from Angelo Badalamenti's cutting room floor, the Panda Bear shimmer of "Lander" is where blissful positivity and sadness meet, about another of his friends who left the world too young.

EMIKA Klavirni Temna LP
LP version. 180 gram white vinyl. Following on from the hugely popular Klavirni, Emika's first solo piano album in 2015 (EMK 001CD/LP), her second installment of piano solos are a magical cluster of melodies, dreamy effects, obscure production mistakes with tape echo's and other old analog gear. The pieces were recorded during the time she was pregnant with her first child Silvy, to whom she has dedicated this record "To Silvy who heard it first from the inside". The collection of "Dilo's" which means moment in Czech, were recorded "in a state of ultra-hyped up creativity combined with a massive fear about losing my identity or creativity as an artist once I would become a mother," says Emika, about the album process. A truly personal affair and in keeping with the original style of the first Klavirni, all the Dilo's were recorded improvisations by the composer on her home piano, this time in Berlin. This release marks the five-year anniversary of Emika Records, celebrating five years of independence since her days with Ninja Tune. Dilo Variations EP (not released previously before on vinyl) will come with the anniversary releases as a 10" with updated artwork (EMK 1001EP). This is also the final release in her Emika Records catalog before starting a new venture in 2020 with more details to follow later in the year. Klavirni Temna which means dark piano in Czech, explores the relationship between dark and light, good and evil, death and rebirth. "Music is a powerful and sometimes unexplainable force" --Emika.

AYLER TRIO, ALBERT Spiritual Unity CD
2020 repress; expanded reissue. Spiritual Unity, recorded on July 10, 1964, is the album that made Albert Ayler and ESP-Disk' famous (or, in some people's eyes/ears, infamous). Mr. Ayler had already recorded in Europe and, in February '64, in New York, but this was the first album on which neither he nor his collaborators held back. It was also ESP's first jazz recording. Spiritual Unity presented a new improvisation paradigm: looser structure, less regard for standard pitch, and no obligation to present a regular beat. Ayler's sound was unprecedented, much rawer than any other jazz of the time. Sometimes it was expressed in squalls of untempered sound, sometimes in outbursts of poignant spontaneous melody. Meanwhile, under and around the leader's unfettered self-expressions, bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Sunny Murray reinvented the roles of their instruments. This 50th Anniversary Expanded Edition includes as a bonus the track briefly substituted for "Spirits" on an early vinyl edition. It is the same tune known as "Vibrations" on the album of that title on Arista/Freedom (aka Ghosts when issued on Debut) and as "[tune Q]2" on the Revenant box set Holy Ghost. This is the first time both "Spirits" and "Vibrations" have been on an ESP edition of Spiritual Unity.

THOLLEM/PARKER/CLINE Gowanus Sessions II LP
LP version. Gowanus Session II was seven years in the planning. Thollem McDonas, Nels Cline, and William Parker convened at Peter Karl Studios in Brooklyn on January 3rd, 2012 and recorded two complete albums. The first was Gowanus Session I, released by Porter Records in April of 2012. GS II was put aside to eventually complete the five-album palindromic cycle of trio albums Nels and Thollem ambitiously set out to realize. The albums in between include Radical Empathy with Michael Wimberly (Relative Pitch, 2015), Molecular Affinity with Pauline Oliveros (ROAR 042LP, 2016), and Reality and Other Imaginary Places, with Michael Wimberly (ESPDISK 5035CD/LP, 2019). William Parker debuted on ESP-Disk' in the mid-70s on Frank Lowe's classic album Black Beings (ESPDISK 3013CD) and has returned to the label this decade on the Black Beings sequel, The Loweski (ESPDISK 4066CD) and with Mat Walerian's group Toxic (ESPDISK 5011CD, 2017) and in a quartet with Ivo Perelman, Matthew Shipp, and Bobby Kapp (ESPDISK 5036CD, 2019), while being highly prolific as a leader, notably with a series of brilliant albums on AUM Fidelity. Nels Cline has spent decades changing people's ideas about the role of the electric guitar in multiple contexts, ranging from Wilco to Anthony Braxton (think about that!) as well as many projects as a leader, earning a spot on Rolling Stone's Top 100 Guitarists list. Thollem is a perpetually traveling pianist, keyboardist, composer, improviser, singer-songwriter, activist, author, and teacher. He's spent most of his adult life living on the road throughout North America and Europe. His work is ever-changing, evolving and responding to the times and his experiences, both as a soloist and in collaboration with hundreds of artists across idioms and disciplines. Thollem is known internationally as an acoustic piano player in the free jazz and post-classical worlds, as the lead vocalist for the Italian agit-punk band Tsigoti, and as an electronic keyboardist through a multitude of projects. Personnel: William Parker - bass; Nels Cline - electric guitar/effects; Thollem McDonas - piano. All compositions by Thollem McDonas, William Parker, Nels Cline.

FLOWERS & THE WAX-LIP-SWAMP-DUB, EDDIE Eddie Flowers & the Wax-Lip-Swamp-Dub LP
"Eddie Flowers is a legend of the American rock sub-underground. Starting as an Alabama-bound fanzine scribe back in the early '70s, Eddie drifted to Bloomington to lend his presence to the Gizmos in the days before 'punk' was codified. Next, he turned up in L.A., where he founded the legendary acid squawlers, Crawlspace. Crawlspace was a thoroughly nuts collection of loosely rotating heads, who existed from 1985 into the new century. They played few actual 'shows,' but still managed to churn out endless documents of their music making. Still, Crawlspace's few vinyl offerings are exquisitely fucked, and include some of the first heavy deployments of Can-generated riff-pulsing heard anywhere on the scene. Anyway, L.A. has a way of eating its children, and Eddie was darn near gobbled by the Sunshine Monster before he was spirited away to Indiana by some old and solid friends. Once there, he lost no time getting a new 'situation' together, and this album is its first graspable evidence. The music created by The Wax-Lip-Swamp-Dub unit is thick with acid-haze (generated by a real random assortment of instruments) and powered into fields of Can-like glory by the superb drumming of Tyler Damon (previously heard on (Manas III (FTR 330LP, 2017)). Eddie's vocals sprawl across the top of it all, giving an entirely new meaning to R. Meltzer's phrase, 'blabbermouth lockjaw of the soul.' The vocals here are all that, but they lay out like a beatnik rattlesnake frying happily in the Texas sun. It is a beautiful trip. Hint to travelers: the higher you fly, the better your view" --Byron Coley, 2019. Edition of 300.

BRYANT, TRACY Hush LP
LP version. Tracy Bryant first gained recognition in 2011 as founder and frontman of Los Angeles group, Corners. The band became a staple of the underground L.A. music scene with their highly regarded live shows and three well-received releases. Bryant decided to end the band in early 2016 to fully focus on his solo endeavors. His first full-length solo album, Subterranean, was released in early 2016 on Burger Records. 2017 saw the release of Bryant's sophomore album A Place For Nothing And Everything in its Place, revealing a wider spectrum and depth in Bryant's songwriting. Hush, Tracy Bryant's third studio album, was recorded over the course of six months in the mountains of Topanga Canyon, California. Produced by Kyle Mullarky (The Growlers, Allah Las) and partly written in collaboration with his wife Kimberly Fitzner, the album is a dynamic and transforming journey from beginning to end. Hush is lyrically forward, conversational and calm, but with an unforgiving and forward voice that doesn't shy away from naming the struggles and graces which come upon all whom pursue a creative life. The soaring melodies of Hush are a breath of fresh air combined with an authentic lyrical perspective which approaches the sometimes taboo music industry and the characters which inhabit it. Bryant's most elaborate production yet is realized by the immaculate drumming and percussion of Nick Murray (Cate Le Bon, White Fence), precision bass by Brian Allen (Burnt Ones), and Kyle Mullarky. Guitars and piano are all played by Bryant himself. The album is mastered by world-renowned engineer Dave Cooley (Blood Orange, Ariel Pink, Animal Collective). Bryant's songs "The Background Singer" and "Start The Motor" were featured in season three of the Network CW television series Riverdale. The Corners song "We're Changing" was featured as one of the few original songs in the blockbuster M. Night Shyamalan film Glass (2019). The song "Hey Spaceman!" was used in the season finale of the TBS show People Of Earth. The title track off of his first album Subterranean is featured in the Volcom surf film Psychic Migrations (2015). "Subterranean" was also featured in the Transworld Skateboarding film Substance.

VA Bubble Chamber 2LP/BOOK
Gentrified Underground presents an interdisciplinary project tackling the sonic fiction and Afrofuturism of Drexciya. Thought as an extension to the Bubble Chamber exhibition happening at Mikro & UP STATE Zürich, Gentrified Underground releases a 2x12" vinyl compilation and a booklet with contributions by Abdul Qadim Haqq, Charlie Mills, chukwumaa, Dominiqueh White, Gentrified Underground, Maïté Chéniere, and tracks by Xor Gate (Gerald Donald), Shawescape Renegade, DJ Dijital, Plant43, The Exaltics, Kuldaboli, Iko, Tom Ware, Luz1e, and Sansibar. The goal of this compilation is to showcase the reach and influence which Drexciya had on generations of electronic music producers while linking them together with compositional predecessors from the early '80s. The musical timeline of the compilation starts from 1982 and reaches its contemporary end in 2019. The 56-page booklet contains unseen and unreleased Drexciyan drafts by Abdul Qadim Haqq, an interview between him and GU, contemporary art contributions by chukwumaa, Dominiqueh White, and Maïté Chéniere, and an academic essay by Charlie Mills. 56-page fanzine booklet; cover by Abdul Qadim Haqq."More than twenty years after their first release, the sonic fictions produced by Drexciya, the Detroit based electronic duo founded by James Stinson and Gerald Donald at the start of the 1990s, continues to enthrall contemporary cultural practitioners. By reimagining the Transatlantic Slave Trade as a fiction of enforced mutation, the Drexciya mythos opened, and continues to open, a speculative space for the reimagining of the posthuman condition, and for questions of becoming, origin and mutation in relation to capitalism, finance and futurity." --Kodwo Eshun

CLIPSE Lord Willin' 2LP
2020 repress. "The first act signed to The Neptunes' newly formed Star Trak label was a Virginia based duo known as the Clipse. The first single 'Grindin'' impacted the streets with its bare boned but infectious drum beat in the same way that 'Sucker MC's' did almost 20 years earlier. These brothers - Pusha T and Malice combined with The Neptunes groundbreaking production sent a clear message to the rap world ? 'we are not the same' (as rapped by Malice on his opening verse on 'Cot' Dam'). Clipse brings an authentic Virginia sound into the game and created a movement, with not only their darkly layered raps but The Neptunes as well. Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo were able to combine their cyberpunk production with just the right group to create a street masterpiece. Following in the footsteps of such rap criminologists as Kool G Rap, Nas, Jay-Z, and Mobb Deep, the Clipse offer the Virginia hustler's viewpoint with clever, hard-hitting lyrics that is sprinkled throughout the entire album."

HARRIS, EDDIE Plug Me In LP
"Saxophonist Eddie Harris -- a favorite sample staple of jazz-leaning hip-hop producers of the '90s -- was a very busy man in the 1960s, releasing albums at a brisk pace since his first as a leader in 1961. By the late '60s he had fully hit his stride, as both a performer and an innovator. A case in point is heard very clearly on this gem from Harris' expansive catalog -- 1968's Plug Me In, which features his pioneering use of the Varitone saxophone effects processor unit (first heard on his 1967 album, The Tender Storm). The effect, used on 'It's Crazy' and 'Ballad (For My Love),' never gets in the way, but gives the proceedings a feeling of 'the next.' 1968 saw jazz entering a new era, influenced by electronic advances as well as the soul music dominating the pop charts of the day. Plug Me In slid perfectly into the vanguard of the day. There is a soulful warmth to the proceedings on this classic LP, starting with album opener 'Live Right Now,' which builds and swirls to a beautiful crescendo, with notes ricocheting back and forth amongst a top level crew of players including Jodie Christian, Chuck Rainey and Richard Smith. 'Lovely Is Today' and 'It's Crazy' also feature waves of sunshine-y brass and group interplay, alongside album ballads like 'Winter Meeting' and 'Ballad (For My Love).' Eddie Harris' catalog can be daunting, considering his impressive input throughout the 60s and 70s, but there's a reason fans old and new come back to Plug Me In again and again. Innovation and soul is a combination that never fails, and this reissue is destined to bring more fans into the fold."

DEEE-LITE Infinity Within 2LP
"After the smash success of Deee-Lite's debut record World Clique, and their now-iconic dance club hit 'Groove Is In The Heart', anticipation was high for a follow-up from the New York-based dance music trio of vocalist Miss Lady Kier, and producers DJ Towa Tei and Super DJ Dmitri. For their sophomore record Infinity Within, Deee-Lite opted to venture in a different direction of sorts. The club-embracing disco-funk sounds and groovy vibes of World Clique were ever-present, but while that record contained themes of global togetherness, Infinity Within took a more socially aware route, with politically charged themes of environmentalism, (to show their bona fide-se, Infinity Within was one of the first titles to be issued in an ecologically friendly eco-pak) sexual liberation, voting rights, and critique of the judicial system. Taking major inspiration from the ancient Chinese divination text I Ching, Miss Lady Kier would later explain that Infinity Within was a natural progression for the group, not a departure. Elaborating in an interview with Reflex Magazine, she remarked: 'The reason why we titled this new album Infinity Within -- to balance out World Clique's idea of looking outward and thinking about unity -- is if you look outward, you should look inward to see what you're doing as an individual. Because people seem to be so passive -- I'd like to see people turn their TV sets off and start protesting.' Infinity Within was not the overwhelming commercial success that World Clique was, but its tracks shined on the Billboard Dance Club charts, with its lead single 'Runaway' reaching #1 on the chart, bolstered by a Gus Van Sant-directed music video. The record also featured a slew of top-tier collaborators, including Parliament veterans Bernie Worrell, Maceo Parker and Bootsy Collins (Returning from their appearances on World Clique) as well as Bootsy's brother Catfish Collins, legendary house DJ Statoshi Tomiie, and rap verses from Michael Franti, Jamal-Ski, and a pre-'Tennessee' Arrested Development. Even though critical reaction at the time was cooler than their debut, over the years Infinity Within has been considered an underrated gem of '90s dance, a classic of early club and house music, and a remarkable follow-up for Deee-Lite."

SAADIQ, RAPHAEL Instant Vintage 2LP
"Raphael Saadiq did not rest on his laurels after bringing his famed R&B group Tony! Toni! Toné! to a close in 1997. In the coming years he was a highly sought-after producer and session musician, leaving his mark on tracks by D'Angelo, The Roots, and Erykah Badu, and briefly formed the supergroup Lucy Pearl with Ali Shaheed Muhammad of A Tribe Called Quest, and Dawn Robinson of En Vogue. After nearly a decade of working in the realm of New Jack Swing, Saadiq's interests gradually gravitated towards the burgeoning musical subgenre of neo-soul. 2002 marked Saadiq's debut as a solo act with the release of Instant Vintage, a record so titled to joke on the fleeting nature of pop culture. It proved to be an album many years ahead of the curve, with its singular focus on organic, instrumentation-driven soul. (With guest appearances from D'Angelo, T-Boz of TLC, Angie Stone, Calvin Richardson, Hi-Tek, and the South Central Chamber Orchestra, among others.) A record that foresaw the arrival of the neo-soul revival, and the mainstream success of nostalgia-mining artists like Amy Winehouse, John Legend, Mark Ronson, and many more. Instant Vintage underperformed commercially upon its release, having the misfortune of being released at a time when pop audiences were more inured with the electro-infused sounds of The Neptunes and Timbaland. In spite of this the record was an absolute marvel to critics, who praised Raphael Saadiq's shimmering sounds, and effortlessly warm reproduction of the classic 70s soul of acts like Curtis Mayfield, merged with a then modern neo-soul sensibility. Heavy praise from the likes of Chicago Sun-Times, The Village Voice, USA Today, and many more. Instant Vintage would also go on to earn a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album in 2003, and would be ranked as one of the Best R&B Albums of the 00s by Rhapsody. In the nearly two decades since the album's release in 2002, Instant Vintage has never been reissued on vinyl. Get On Down aims to change all that in 2020 with this sterling LP reissue, featuring remastered audio and an intricately re-created sleeve of the original, enigmatic cover art."

ADVANCED AUDIO RESEARCH Top Secret LP
Giorgio Di Salvo signs a new chapter in his Advanced Audio Research: a blast of free-form jungle-ish mayhem, once more released in coproduction with Haunter Records. This time ripe with the furthest experimentations and most far-out cuts coming out of the AAR headquarters. That's right, we're dealing with some serious freakishness: using the same generative process and wicked arsenal of tools as his previous oblation, Di Salvo managed not only to top its rave-ready madness, but also to venture far beyond, arranging the gnarliest noises into wild, crooked beats and mocking melodies. AAR's music is still closely related to the heaviest dance music paradigms like breakcore and flashcore, though it maintains such a unique character and such a distinctive sonic palette that makes it stand within that musical world in a truly refreshing manner. Big Scenic Nowhere's Vision Beyond Horizon is a collaborative effort and even greater than the sum of its parts. The basic riffs and song structures were done by Bob Balch and Gary Arce, but the contributions from Tony Reed, Lisa Alley, Ian Graham, Mario Lalli, Nick Oliveri, Bill Stinson, Per Wiberg, and Alain Johannes make this record what it is. There was never a discussion of what kind of music they wanted to make. This album is a unique gem, manufactured by multiple artists, including different atmospheres: from melodic stoner mellowness, to faster tempos, to classic heavy sounds, the songwriting is never customary. One could say Fu Manchu's killer riffing meets the desert psychedelia of Yawning Man. For sure that is something that's never been tried before! Bob Balch and Gary Arce together give life to an amazing new adventure which sounds fresh and dynamic. The vocal parts are always choral and interesting. There's a variety in the songs which always keeps the listener focused and intrigued about what's next. FLUQX Monolith LP
Comprising producer-engineer Joel Krozer (Clark, Smerz, When Saints Go Machine) and Brian Della Valle (singer-songwriter of Of The Valley) the Copenhagen based duo got together when Joel heard Brian recording in the studio. Their encounter led to a series of late-night recording sessions, together with collaborator Søren Holme, that quickly became the cornerstone of their partnership and the formation of Fluqx. Monolith is the exceptional debut album of Fluqx and offers state of the art production and highly creative electronica tracks with that special something. The sound of Fluqx is distinct -- a merging of deeply warped synthesizers, swirling textures and Brian's affecting vocals. There is a versatile range of sounds and atmospheres across these twelve tracks -- from the delicate arpeggios of "Carvings" and "Ephemeral Objects", to the massive drum sounds and cutting synth leads of "Monolith" and "Hanami". Della Valle's warm falsetto navigates through this dynamic landscape with ease and hooks the listener in on tracks like "Feather" and "Staring At The Sun", whilst providing space to breathe on tracks like "Here" and "Golden Hour". Elsewhere, ambient, drone-y textures are at the forefront on "Mojave Booth" and "Diamond Dust", maintaining the dreamy, otherworldly nature of the Fluqx sound. Includes download code.

GUILT ATTENDANT Suburban Scum 2LP
Nathaniel Young, aka Guilt Attendant, lives and works in NYC, where he also produces music under the monikers Hofmann, Kohl, Moral Extrication, and richard_p, and runs the Severed Mercies and Blankstairs platforms for art and music alongside his design duties for Dais and Hospital Productions among many other publications and labels. Suburban Scum is his devilishly detailed debut of girder-strength techno for Hospital Productions, forged in the image of late '90s hard techno and reverberating strongly with prevailing trends. It's inspired and informed by the artist's deeply held urge to undo the dogma instilled by his religious Christian upbringing. and, as such, it expresses a sense of free will within the context of Satan's fall from grace, fully grasping techno's repetitive excess as a potential path to hedonism, freedom and other ungodly matters. Recorded between 2016-2019, the eight tracks of Suburban Scum find Guilt Attendant in cold control of his agency. While they may possibly make crowds consider their own relationship to god, especially in his use of sampled sermons by his former preacher that crop up throughout, and most strikingly on the closing "Severe Mercy", the majority are more likely to make dancers slam the walls and trample a hole in the 'floor, especially with the galloping horsepower traction of "Broken (Free)" and his scudding 140bpm missile "Cursed Spawn Of White Flight", while the title track deals in purely clenched EBM and the dread-filled palpitations of "Imminent Unraveling" features his vocals low in the mix and wrapped around the track's rugged spine. While there's a certain irony in eschewing one dogma to embrace another, Guilt Attendant utilizes the inherently principled form of hard techno as a steely framework in which to explore his own spirit. In the process he opens a derelict warehouse-like playground to reflect on key themes of moral independence, social segregation, free will, blissful despair and decisive autonomy (from a much longer list) that patently apply to popular conceptions of the dancefloor as "church" and techno as ritual. Firmly modeled in the image of classic Regis, Silent Servant, Steve Bicknell, Adam X, Ancient Methods.

MALONE, KALI The Sacrificial Code 2LP
2020 limited repress. Double LP version. Kali Malone presents a new album featuring nearly two hours of concentrated pipe organ pieces governed by a strict acoustic and compositional code. It's a major new work with ultimately profound emotional resonance. The Sacrificial Code takes a more surgical approach to the methods first explored on Organ Dirges 2016-2017 (ASCETICKALI). Over the course of three parts performed on three different organs, Malone's minimalist procedure captures a jarring precision of closeness, both on the level of the materiality of the sounds and on the level of composition. The recordings of The Sacrificial Code involve careful close-miking of the pipe organ in such a way as to eliminate environmental identifiers as far as possible -- essentially removing the large hall reverb so inextricably linked to the instrument. The pieces are then further compositionally stripped of gestural adornments and spontaneous expressive impulse -- an approach reminiscent of Steve Reich's words, "by voluntarily giving up the freedom to do whatever momentarily comes to mind, we are, as a result, free of all that momentarily comes to mind." With its slow, purified, and seemingly austere qualities, The Sacrificial Code guides you through an almost trance-inducing process where you become vulnerable receptors for every slight movement, where every miniature shift in sound becomes magnified through stillness. As such, it's a uniquely satisfying exercise in transcendence through self-restraint -- a stunning realization of ideas borne out of academic and conceptual rigor which gradually reveals startling personal dimensions. It has a perception-altering quality that encourages self-exploration free of signposts and without a preordained endpoint -- the antithesis to the language of colorless musical platitudes we've become so accustomed to. Features additional organ pieces performed by Ellen Arkbro. Art and photography by A.M. Rehm. Mastered and cut by Rashad Becker.

A match made in heaven, that you will hear on this collection, where he was put against some of the finest rhythms made in what would be a high point in reggae's history. Delroy Wilson (b.1948 Kingston, Jamaica) began his musical career at the school which was Coxonne Dodd's Studio One label. His first release at the tender age of 13 was the Lee Perry produced "Joe Liges". This ska-enhanced tune gave the young singer his first hit and the follow-up single "Spit in the Sky" also flew out the record store doors. After a brief stop in 1969, Delroy began working for producer Sonia Pottinger's Tip Top label which gave him more hits including "It Hurts" and "Put Yourself in My Place". The 1970s saw Delroy Wilson's arrival at Bunny "Striker" Lee's door and what would turn into a winning formula, scoring hit after hit. It is from this great period in Delroy's career that Jamaican Recordings have compiled this selection of killer tracks, cut with drum and bass rhythm kings themselves Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare. GURTU, TRILOK God Is A Drummer CD
God Is A Drummer is the new studio album by master drummer Trilok Gurtu. Throughout his illustrious career, master drummer and world music pioneer Gurtu has stood at the confluence of where Indian classical music, Western jazz and funk, African music, and Brazilian music meet. It's been part of his modus operandi for five decades -- making music that defies easy categorization. On God Is A Drummer, his 20th recording as a leader, the uncommonly open-minded musician pays tribute to some fallen colleagues and role models who have guided and inspired him along the way. Leading his dynamic, Hamburg-based group of trumpeter Frederik Köster, trombonist Christophe Schweizer, Turkish-born keyboardist Sabri Tulug Tirpan, and electric bassist Jonathan Cuniado, Gurtu acknowledges the impact that legends like keyboardist and Weather Report co-founder Joe Zawinul, Brazilian percussionist Nana Vasconcelos, jazz drumming great Tony Williams, and his mother, the Indian classical singing star Shobha Gurtu, have made on his musical life. Dedicated to his own guru, Ranjit Maharaj, God Is A Drummer is a stunning showcase of matchless precision, dazzling solos, passionate vocals, percolating rhythms, and deep-rooted grooves. Regarding the title, the leader says, "I named it that because without the drummer, nothing will move. And without movement, the world will stop. The Earth rotates, which is movement. The waves in the ocean, the leaves falling from trees, people talking to each other -- it's all movement, it's rhythm, it's energy. So, with every movement, I say, god is a drummer." KIDAMBI ELDER ONES, AMIRTHA Holy Science LP
First released on digital formats back in 2016, and here now given a richly deserved full vinyl release, Holy Science, the debut outing from Amirtha Kidambi and her New York based quartet The Elder Ones, is a work of dazzling singularity. Delicately yet unashamedly divulging its complex network of influences at every turn, Holy Science simultaneously disperses of boundary and limitation, emerging as an album steeped in tradition yet located firmly in the futuristic present. Amirtha Kidambi, the Elder Ones' leader, composer and vocalist, was a child of South Indian heritage, and she grew up immersed in the tradition of devotional singing, joining in with free-form, improvised Bhajans on regular Sundays. She began simultaneously accompanying her voice with the harmonium from the age of three. These formative experiences continued to instruct and merge with her ongoing musical explorations as she went on to study classical music, all the while ingesting the punk, R&B and rap that surrounded her. A particularly significant discovery was that of free and avant jazz, and in particular the music of Alice and John Coltrane, in whom Kidambi found clear echoes and parallels with those Bhajans and Ragas of her earliest musical awakenings. All these influences collide on Holy Science, at times as explosive blasts of sky-opening thunder, at others as moments of soothing, meditative bliss. These holy bursts are enacted by Kidambi's assembled musicians and are given permission to explore the science of spiritual alchemy, plundering their individual and collective soul for the sake of musical expression, and all of the unpredictable and profound revelations such an approach might yield. Holy Science is a work underpinned by traditions, be they the Bhajan spirituals, or the jazz and classical avant gardes, that are in their own manner, archetypal. But perhaps most importantly, all of these forms contain an inbuilt capacity for discovery and progression. Amirtha Kidambi's musical pathway has been defined by a studied determination to occupy this specific space, the unbounded realm of improvisation and exploration, summoning the acquired instruments of experience, knowledge, culture, and tradition to unlock secrets of the past, present and future. The most cherished music is often remarked upon as having a timeless quality -- ancient, modern and futuristic, all at once. And so it is with Holy Science. Liner notes by DJ Cherrystones.

SUN RA ARKESTRA Live In Kalisz 1986 2LP
It was one of the most peculiar landings of the Sun Ra Arkestra. Time: December 7, 1986, Polish People's Republic, still separated from the West by the Iron Curtain. It's a grey and poor twilight of a real socialism era. In three years, the Eastern Bloc would collapse, but what still occupies the minds of Poles now is mostly the martial law imposed by the Pro-Moscow regime in 1981, when the country wanted to free itself from the influence of the Soviet Union. Place: Kalisz, one of the oldest Polish cities dating back to the 10th century, historically connected with the first kings of Poland, grew into a multinational centre with time as not only the Czech Brethren escaping the Habsburg monarchy found refuge here, but also prominent rabbis known across Europe used to operate and expound in the local Jewish community. In the 20th century Kalisz became a provincial city and its presence in the cultural life of Poland was most significantly marked with the International Jazz Piano Festival. It was during the 13th edition of the festival that Sun Ra Arkestra performed. What turned out to be most memorable for the concert-goers was the closing procession of musicians who left the stage to walk around the audience, circle the venue, and return. Researchers of the Sun Ra mysticism recognized such gestures as rituals of passage corresponding to the cosmic cycles of death and resurrection. From a European perspective, Sun Ra's work turns out to be a dream come true for Wagner and Stockhausen. His music brought the myth to life. The myth connecting the past with the future 00 above the unfavorable present -- which created a sphere of freedom. However, Ra used to say that it was not freedom that was at stake here, but precision and discipline.

The band's pumping originality stands out as a valuable contribution to the vibrant and diverse jazz scene that's shaping the capital. Following the incredible response to their most recent project, Sun Ra - Live in Kalisz 1986 (LQ 009LP), Lanquidity Records aren't sitting tight. This time it's the debut of an exciting London trio experimenting with jazz and electronic fusions. Their sound is Still Moving. Still Moving is comprised of three musicians: Nat Philipps on saxophone, Pike Ogilvy on drums, and Sam Bates on synthesizers and drum machines. Drawing from a wide pool of influence -- touching on jazz, folk rhythm traditions, club-oriented electronics, and progressive experimentalism -- they generate an organic performance rooted in an intimate musical understanding between performers. SM is an invitation to a fluid journey through musical space, just as capable of provoking emotion and introspection as inspiring dance and movement. Working from the principle that no two shows be the same, they access a sound that is at once poetic yet constantly developing: a sound that is Still Moving. The group's recorded material reflects the live, improvisatory nature of the project, mixing raw and dynamic performance with an experimental approach to studio production. Whether in the flesh or on record, they capture a unique synthesis of musical styles that is sure to move you in body and in spirit.

For the first time, Len Faki decides to dish out a full foursome of his Deepspace-mixes, sharing one of the most profound entries into the series yet. Originally released within the last couple of years. The atmospheric and dubbed-out "Biker Scene" from Skymn is one of riding blissfully under a sky illuminated by the milky way, followed by a streamlined update on the soaring metallic shuffle that is Refracted's "Depth Charge", its tribal undertones prowling in the underbrush. The flip tucks NYC's Craft's wild synth work into a tight corset, channeling its lively energy even more effectively for the floor. Closing out with A Sacred Geometry, the Berlin/Rome-connection's finely plucked synths glide above elated pads and a skittering rhythm.

PROFESSIONALS, THE The Professionals Instrumentals LP
"Madlib is a highly regarded and influential hip-hop producer and occasional rapper, who has left his distinct and stylized sound on classic tracks and critically beloved albums by the likes of MF Doom (Madvillain), J Dilla (JayLib), Talib Kweli (Liberation), Georgia Anne Muldrow (Seeds), and more. Madlib's collaborations with rapper Freddie Gibbs (Piñata & 2019's Bandana) are some of the most acclaimed hip-hop records of the past decade, and his various DJ mix compilations (Madlib Medicine Show, Beat Konducta) have earned high praise from a variety of journalistic sources. On The Professionals, Madlib joined forces with fellow rapper/producer and biological brother Oh No, unleashing thirteen tracks of trippy, frequently psychedelic underground hip-hop, upon an unsuspecting public to great acclaim from fans and critics. Now, Madlib's own imprint Madlib Invazion proudly presents the instrumental tracks for this anomalous record, which puts every twitchy, paranoid, and anomalous beat from the legendary beatsmith on full display."

CURRENT VALUE Senex 3LP
The drum and bass chart-topping artist, Current Value, whose tunes are often a staple of Aphex Twin's performances, returns to Methlab Recordings with his Senex album, which features 21 of his most technical and innovative sonic works on the like-minded label. A twin release with its more upfront and riotous cousin Puer delivered via Souped Up Recordings (2019), Senex displays its half of the Current Value sound with an expansive array of sonic sequences marked by their forward-thinking sonic character and the singular timbres for which Current Value is known. Early in the album's span come the glittering arpeggios of "Megacity", which filter downwards above the bassline pursuit that plays out beneath their fluttering rays. Further in, "Dismantle" deconstructs a set of classic rhythms before reshaping them within the milieu of its hazy pads under the pressure of its mechanical low frequency generator. An Elysian piano melody wafts through the opening percussion of "Friendly Takeover" and therein masks the brutalist companion frequencies that await within the track's second section. "Access Point" surges within a stream of bit-crushed binary at the albums third quarter, and opens the way for the enigmatically warped sonics that course through the album's final sections and flow within the depths of its void-borne closing track, "Crystal Ball". With Senex, Current Value delivers one half of his joint 11th and 12th albums as he explores his most experimental sonic leanings to both a further breadth and depth than ever before upon the Methlab Recordings label.

SAVILLE, ROBIN Build A Diorama LP
LP version. Includes printed inner sleeve and download code. ISAN's Robin Saville reveals an ambient album, which merges the electronica aesthetics of his main project with field recordings, drones, and acoustic instrumentation. A lot of things have been written about what happens to the mind when the body starts moving. Instead of reciting poems of the inevitable self-help books, let's get straight to the point: For many, taking walks on a regular basis is both liberating and empowering. It is not necessarily so much about the exercise, but rather finding one's own rhythm in life. Robin Saville is such an ambler. His walks inspired him to base his third solo album -- his first one for Morr Music following releases on Static Caravan and Second Language -- on the out of the way places he came to see and experience while being out and about. Clocking in at just under 40 minutes in total, Build A Diorama is both a subtle culmination and a poignant antipode to what Saville has achieved together with Antony Ryan as ISAN. While the aesthetics might seem similar in places, Saville opts for a decisively different pace when it comes to writing and producing. Progress is steady, and change, however, is slow -- like looking at a diorama for a long period of time in the ever so slightly changing light or as a flaneur focusing on one particular spot, a found object so-to-speak, waiting for the mind to orchestrate it appropriately, giving it sense and meaning. Built around quiet field recordings, Saville's six compositions transform this highly personal and, therefore, difficult-to-convey experience into a comprehensible exploration of beauty. Where ISAN almost exclusively uses electronics, Saville deliberately expands this well-established palette with acoustic instruments like bass guitar, chimes, and glockenspiel, aiming for an even more suitable musical manifestation of what the walker sees and feels once he fully engages in his passion. Ranging from blissfully pulsing pads allowing for complete associative freedom ("The Deepdale Halophyte Economy") to the playful minimalism of an orchestra dominated by busy bells ("Bosky"), Saville's Build A Diorama is not just a valuable addition to his musical output, but an essential audio guide for those striving to explore, learn, and understand.

Their most famous song 'Rivers of Babylon' reached world fame after Boney M. scored a giant worldwide hit with it in 1978. The album by the same name features more of their attractive sounds, like the single 'Sweet Sensation', which made it to the British Top 50. It was their work with Kingston-based producer, Leslie Kong that yielded their greatest successes. VA Call Me By Your Name (Red Vinyl) 2LP
"Call Me By Your Name, the film by Luca Guadagnino, is a sensual and transcendent tale of first love, based on the acclaimed novel by André Aciman. Summer of 1983, Northern Italy. An American-Italian is enamored by an American student who comes to study and live with his family. Together they share an unforgettable summer full of music, food, and romance that will forever change them. The film received critical acclaim. Critics praised in particular Chalamet, Hammer and Stuhlbarg's performances, Guadagnino's direction and the screenplay. Call Me By Your Name won a variety of Awards, including Academy, Bafta, GLAAD and many more. Sufjan Stevens's song 'Mystery of Love' was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 90th Academy Awards. Luca Guadagnino wanted the film's music to be connected to Elio, a young pianist who likes to transcribe and adapt pieces in order to get close to Oliver. The music is used to reflect the time, the characters' family, level of education and 'the kind of canon they would be a part of'. Guadagnino found himself resonating with Sufjan Stevens' lyricism through his work and initially asked Stevens to record an original song. Eventually, Stevens contributed three songs to the soundtrack: 'Visions of Gideon', which was used at the end of the film, 'Mystery of Love,' which was featured in the film's first trailer and a new rendition of 'Futile Devices' with piano. Stevens penned the songs by using the script, the book, and the conversations with the director about the characters. It marks Sufjan Stevens' first soundtrack for a feature film. The vinyl package of Call Me By Your Name includes a poster, an insert and the 180 gram records are housed in 2 exclusive printed innersleeves. This is a limited edition of 10,000 individually numbered copies on transparent red vinyl, to celebrate the release of Find Me, André Aciman's brand new novel and sequel of Call Me By Your Name. The heavyweight jacket has a deluxe varnish on the title and special "linen-look" finish. The album is housed in a customized PVC jacket with 'Somewhere In Northern Italy' engraved on the back."

DECOY WITH JOE MCPHEE AC/DC CD
Two totally infectious sets from Decoy -- the trio of John Edwards, Steve Noble, and Alexander Hawkins -- reunited with pocket trumpet and saxophone player Joe McPhee on the closing night of his four day residency at Cafe OTO. In the eight years between the recordings which make up AC/DC and their last release Spontaneous Combustion (ROKU 002CD, 2014), Decoy and each of its members have been practicing individually at the very top of their form. Coming together again in such celebratory circumstances and in the good company of a fantastic crowd set the scene for a very special night. As they begin, Alexander Hawkins casts a needling surface between his Hammond organ and John Edwards's loose splatters and slaps of low-end bass. McPhee skitters over them with his pocket trumpet by way of introduction; Steve Noble strikes his rims in anticipation. The first set sees moments of frenetic free jazz peel off into weirdo soul territory and when switched to saxophone halfway through, McPhee's romantic lyricism is utterly beautiful. When a groove sets in, Hawkins's B3 ascension in harmony with an ever-powerful Edwards-Noble rhythm section sees the room thicken and swirl to the point of giddiness. There is one unreal part at 22:22 where we're sure you can hear Edwards's bass vocalizing. Regrouped for a second set, Steve Noble's metallic textures meld with detuned arco bass to create an unholy atmosphere, ripe for Hawkins to play out the eerier end of the Hammond. When McPhee sounds a sax motif the band catches it quickly and it's soon wickedly morphed and stretched by each player, recurring to absurdity in a stoned-out funk free for all. The whole recording bleeds enthusiasm and joyful imagination and is a brilliant document of an unforgettable evening. Decoy are a limitless band who play nowhere near enough.

MOHOLO OCTET, LOUIS Spirits Rejoice! LP
2020 repress. Otoroku present the first vinyl reissue of Louis Moholo Octet's Spirits Rejoice!, originally released in 1978 on Ogun Recordings. One of the most legendary free jazz records ever produced, Spirits Rejoice! is a high achievement in the movement of the era as it soars beyond oppression with a raucous and spiritually uplifting surge of movement and melody. Featuring Harry Miller, Johnny Dyani, Keith Tippett, Evan Parker, Nick Evans, Radu Malfatti, and Kenny Wheeler, this is former Blue Note artist Louis Moholo's first album under his own name and is a classic example of the cross-pollination between South African and British players. Mongezi Feza's 'You Ain't Gonna Know Me 'Cos You Think You Know Me" alone is enough to make your life a better place. Made with permission and in association with Ogun Recordings. Features an exact reproduction of the original artwork and liner notes, along with new liner notes from Matthew Wright. Remastered by Giuseppe IIelasi. High gloss sleeve; edition of 1000.From Matthew Wright's new liner notes: "The South African melodies, now so familiar, were wholeheartedly taken on board by the individual musicians, their unity of purpose mirroring the belief in the strength of the collective. Stunning solos, often close to the edge, feature throughout -- Evan Parker and Keith Tippett on 'Shine Wherever You Are'; the contrasting trombone styles of Nick Evans and Radu Malfatti on 'You Ain't Gonna Know Me...'; the octet sounding like a full big band; and behind them, the relentlessly rhythmic urgency of the piano, bass and drums. Add to this Kenny Wheeler's moving and all-encompassing trumpet on the elegiac 'Amaxesha Osizi' and the joyous flamboyancy of 'Wedding Hymn' with Parker's relatively straight-ahead tenor and Tippett's dextrous piano solo over a bed of riffing horns, (fast) walking bass lines and a supreme sense of swing. Louis' early hero, Big Sid Catlett, would have loved it!"

MORGAN, NATE Retribution, Reparation LP
Outernational Sounds present a reissue of Nate Morgan's Retribution, Reparation, originally released on Nimbus West Records in 1984. A core member of the circle around Horace Tapscott, pianist Nate Morgan was a key member of the Pan Afrikan People's Arkestra, known as The Ark. Here is the second of his two LPs for Nimbus West. His first, Journey Into Nigritia (OTR 008LP) had been a declaration of arrival laced with energies drawn from Cecil Taylor and Coltrane. One year later, in 1984, with nods to Herbie Hancock ("One Finger Snap") and Ellington ("Come Sunday"), Retribution, Reparation was a confident statement of purpose. Politically charged with pan-Africanist Black nationalism, and titled with uncompromising directness, the album focusses the sound world of the Ark into a surging, restless masterpiece of spiritualized modal jazz. Danny Cortez on trumpet and Jesse Sharps on saxophones comprise an explosive frontline. Fritz Wise and Ark regular Joel Ector hold down the rhythm section. Morgan's forceful, Tyner-like chords and virtuosic solos bind the music together. From the poised drama of the opening dedication to Tapscott's U.G.M.A.A. organization, through the propulsive militancy of the title track, "Retribution, Reparation" spreads the word: "Advance to Victory, Let Nigritia Be Free!" Fully licensed from Nimbus West founder Tom Albach.

Based on the despicable history of Stefano Cucchi, literally killed in prison by a bunch of policemen, the album renews the cinematic style of Mokadelic through a series of almost dramatic instrumental sketches. Equally informed by the post-rock of luminaries such as Godspeed You Black Emperor! and Explosions In The Sky, not to mention the subtle rhythms of contemporary IDM (in the vein of Boards Of Canada) -- the band delivers their signature with several epic moments. Drawing on a shared Cape Verdean and Angolan heritage, the duo started producing in their early teens back in 2010, but got distracted, as teenagers are prone to do, before returning to the software circa 2017 with a little help from their former neighbor and mentor, DJ BeBeDeRa -- whose grinding tarraxhos have been issued on 7" by Promesses -- to finally produce this killer trio of club workouts. Hypnotic and hard in a signature Príncipe style that firmly resonates with SA Gqom, strains of syncopated UK bass and mutations seeping out of all corners of the internet, the EP kicks off with a mesmerizing mix of New Beat-esque choral drones with synthetic berimbau-like riffs and flinty rhythm in "No Cubau", before "Manganza" doubles down the darkness with murderous bass drones and distorted drops recalling Durban taxi techno vibes, and "Pedra de 800 Kg" -- so titled after their father's motivational expression "That's easier to lift than a 500 Kg rock" -- recklessly pushes the dance to a steely, up-tempo frenzy.

HODGKINSON, TIM Under The Void CD
"Three fascinating contemporary classical compositions from Henry Cow alumnus Tim Hodgkinson for flute, oboe, clarinet, trumpet, horn, trombone, violins, violas, cello, bass, piano, percussion, virtual strings, accordion, Siberian frame drums, gongs, viola, electronics, bowed cymbals, lap steel guitar, Yamaha DX21 and bass clarinet -- an iconoclastic hybrid of materials, real, virtual, imaginary and observed that flatter and puzzle the ear, drawing from many disciplines and taking a phenomenological approach to sound. More rock than academe, Tim Hodgkinson studied social anthropology at Cambridge, and co-founded Henry Cow in 1968. He has a long involvement in improvisation, and came back to anthropology in the 1990s to research music and shamanism in Siberia. Hodgkinson works regularly with the Romanian Composer Iancu Dumitrescu's Hyperion Ensemble and his compositions have been performed by numerous ensembles in many European contemporary music festivals. His composition Fragor appeared in the Martin Scorsese film Shutter Island. As a writer, he has published articles and reviews on improvised music, musique concre?te, spectralism, the ethnomusicology of shamanism and the aesthetic problems of the impact of new technology on contemporary music. His book, Music And The Myth Of Wholeness was published by MIT press in January 2016."

ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE & THE MELTING PARAISO U.F.O. Minstrel In The Galaxy LP
Limited edition black vinyl repress; includes download code; gloss finished 350gsm board sleeve; edition of 300. Way back in 2004, Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O. released the CD-only album Minstrel In The Galaxy on Riot Season Records. The decision to make it CD only at the time was down to the epic title track being almost 42 minutes in length. Fast forward fifteen years and new technologies and Riot Season present the first-ever vinyl release of this classic album, with a new edited especially for vinyl mix by main man Makoto Kawabata. Here's what Riot Season said back then: "Minstrel In The Galaxy is the sound of the newly slimmed down four-piece AMT recorded in their smoke filled basement Studio in Nagoya during summer 2004. The sounds captured on these three tracks are the first post-Cotton Casino AMT workouts. The diminutive beer and cigarettes Goddess has upped sticks and moved to the USA to start a new life and plan her solo career. We'll miss her that's for sure but we can't worry about that now, AMT have another ten albums to lay down before New Year. The AMT line up for this album features the core trio of Makoto Kawabata (Guitar), Atsushi Tsuyama (monster bass), Hiroshi Higashi (guitar and effects) and new permanent drummer (and ex-Mainliner man) Hajime Koie (drums). The free jazz style drumming from Hajime has helped give AMT their sense of improvisation back, most of their work is improvised and recorded live to tape which gives that great loose feel they have that takes them off on tangents and makes each new record that little bit different from the last. And with this new studio album I think we can safely say it's something of a new direction. They're joined on this album by Japanese underground queens Afrirampo . . . Musically this album is a slight departure for AMT, anyone buying it expecting a head-melting riff heavy record are going to be disappointed. To these ears 'Minstrel In The Galaxy' sounds darker and more stripped down that any previous AMT release. The title track alone lasts a staggering 41 minutes, over the course of which the band take our heads in a few gentle directions before letting rip towards it's crushing finale." DAFELDECKER, WERNER Parallel Darks LP
Viennese born, Berlin based electro-acoustic maestro Werner Dafeldecker creates an intense and beautiful musique concrète journey on Parallel Darks. He examines perspective, extreme subjectivity and the specters that haunt our auditory worlds. What are the bounded limits of sense? How is it we come to know the world and moreover how is it that we share that experience collectively? Where are the points of mutual understanding and how can we approach the spectral aspects of our sensing of the world? It's these questions that have shaped the approaches used by Werner Dafeldecker on his first fully fledged electro- acoustic outing. Parallel Darks charts out a divergent, yet relational sound field that reflects an intensity of practice that Dafeldecker has cultivated over the better part of three decades. Concerning himself with sounds that often lie at the periphery of our listening, Parallel Darks layers dense spatial textures into a tightly woven sonic fabric. Calling on materials collected through field recordings, analog synthesis, and through his extended instrumental techniques, Dafeldecker seamlessly draws together these sources, creating an at times blurry harmony between elements that might otherwise appear incongruous or in contest. The sound world Dafeldecker creates is one that is simultaneously musical and profoundly abstract. As potential elements of harmony emerge, they are pulled away through various dynamic interjections, which the draw the focus of the ears. There is no one singular plateau of sound, rather a constant deepening, a beautiful abyss of spectacular pressure and vital acoustic darkness. Recorded across 2018 and 2019, each of the editions two pieces dwell on sounds' capacity to be a specter. Parallel Darks uses sounds at the very threshold of perception that suggest uneasy acoustic spaces and haunted zones within which the rules of listening in the everyday must be abandoned. In these zones, Dafeldecker carefully crafts hidden sonic relations that call for an intensity of listenership."It compares music and reality. The music functions like an observer: the music observes reality. And it is precisely the limits of this approach that make us realize something about the observation instrument. The music, the culturally created, thus becomes a metaphor for perception. A perception that can in no way do justice to what has been perceived, and in this failure can tell us all the more about the limits of our perception and about the process of creating reality in perception." --Peter Ablinger

KUTIMAN Saluf/Badawee 7"
2019 was a busy year for Kutiman: he released several singles (including his collaborations with Turkish singer Melike Sahin and Rioghnach Connolly), as well as his psychedelic jazz funk EP, Lines From Different Sources. So it should come as no surprise that Kutiman's first release for 2020 is the monster Saluf/Badawee, a two-track, desert funk 7". Both compositions on this limited-edition vinyl are unmistakably in line with Kutiman's psychedelic, heady funk-jazz musical legacy, but they also introduce a new approach in production esthetics and a narrative characterized by the essence of the region they were recorded in. "Saluf" is an irresistible hypnotic Middle Eastern, brain-melter that is steadily building and charging with harmonizing synths and horns on top of dubbed-out drums and handclaps. Think a pitched-down Omar Soulyman instrumental meets Tinariwen in a smoky club and you're getting close. Known to be one of the highlights of the Kutiman Orchestra's live sets and a certified crowd pleaser, capturing the spirit of "Saluf" in the studio was like capturing lightning in a jar. Those in the know will be more than pleased with the recorded outcome and those who are not familiar with the song, are in for a treat. "Badawee" on the other hand is a new composition. A potent, slow burning, Middle Eastern head-nodder that just keeps on giving. Kicking off with heavy drums and persisting cymbals to keep things steady, a rusty synth lead appears and followed by ethereal textured melodies that enhance the song to a blissful effect. Reverbed snares strike like thunder from a distant storm and the whole thing just takes off to the upper sonic spheres.

Wall-to-wall speedy punk bordering on the recklessness of Motorhead, the single mindedness of The Kids, the streetwise panache of Cockney Rejects, and the occasional curveball pasted in to keep everyone surprised. OSCILLATORIAL BINNAGE Agitations: Post-Electronic Sounds CD
Oscillatorial Binnage's Agitations: Post-Electronic Sounds is an 11-track album of post-digital, post-electronic music. The recordings are deeply acoustic -- no electronic processing features anywhere. The sounds are produced by the experimental manipulation of repurposed recycled objects subjected to electromagnetic force fields. The "infinite world of the real" offers up richly unpredictable effects, with fields of vibration producing psychoacoustic flourishes, along with spontaneous, arbitrarily microtonal and harmonic compositions. Agitations: Post-Electronic Sounds constitutes a series of sonic exercises based around one principal philosophy: that systems of electromagnetically-resonated physical objects can lead to complex electronic-sounding tones that emerge acoustically, progressing themselves in surprising non-linear dynamic states, providing pointers for further actions upon the objects. Techniques usually associated with electronic music, such as modulation, wave-shaping, filtering, etc., are here applied to acoustic physical systems via prods, cranks, levers, gears, and jacks. The bulk of the recordings were made at La Borde Basse/Studio Midi-Pyrénées in 2013, with additional tracks recorded with electromagnetic-force-field resonated oil drums at Alserkal Avenue, Dubai, and upgraded reconstructions of Luigi Russolo's Futurist intonarumori at Mount Pleasant, Clapton. Starting with fallen dry leaves, found pottery, and brass junkets, the experiments progressed to combinations of interconnected objects, including industrial springs, clamps, woks, rods, hand-held brass bells, earthenware, dry leaves, stones, pitchforks, feathers, paper, plastic receptacles, lamp-post doors, wicker baskets, grilles, bottles, barrels, and much more. The album forms an acoustic exploration into the alchemy of found objects, and the origins of inspiration. London-based electroacoustic quartet Oscillatorial Binnage have been giving workshops and performing live experimental improvised music together since 2004. 16-page booklet."While music in general drifts every day further from real strings, drums and vinyl, into the virtual world of files, Oscillatorial Binnage reaffirms the origin of sound in physical things that shake, rattle and hum -- the pre-industrial caterwauling of post-electronic music." --Nicolas Collins (author of Handmade Electronic Music)

ALI/FRANK LOWE, RASHIED Duo Exchange 2LP
"Duo Exchange was the flagship release of Survival Records. Percussionist Rashied Ali and saxophonist Frank Lowe were both in a hurry to ignite their careers as leaders, and this record lit the match. Survival Records was a joint venture between the duo, and the recording sessions done at Marzette Watts's studio were the maiden voyage of their partnership. They went in to capture the vehemence bursting forth nightly in the downtown lofts, and the results were furious, brutal, and poignant. With the release of this album in 1973, Ali and his family and Frank Lowe and his family all became executives and clerks helping to get the word out. And getting the records out -- at loft shows and Village record haunts. The message of untamed tenor saxophone and Ali's drums should sound familiar: That's the combination that made jazz history in Ali's 1967 duets with his then-employer, John Coltrane. What eventually came out as Interstellar Space is its own pinnacle of the genre, but its release was still a year off when Duo Exchange was issued to the public. Mixed and mastered from the original tapes, this expanded 2020 edition restores sections of the original record inexplicably excised from the CD release in the nineties, and expands on it with more than double the playing time of the original LP with fascinating outtake versions that rephrase the familiar tracks. 2xLP gatefold tip-on jacket, pressed on RTI Vinyl."

ALI QUINTET, RASHIED Live At Slugs 2LP
"Preserved on two reels in Rashied Ali's tape archive, this document may have been only the second time that Ali had led a band in public. The band membership is stellar and unprecedented, and the tunes they play predate all known segments of Ali's career as a composer or bandleader. Ali was still officially on the job as Coltrane's drummer when he assembled this cast for perhaps as little as two sets of music in the Spring of 1967. It appears to be the earliest documented activity for the late tenor saxophonist Ramon Morris, who had thoroughly absorbed the lessons of John Coltrane, post 1961. Trumpeter Dewey Johnson had his peak moment of fame two years prior, appearing with Coltrane on the orchestral Free Jazz masterpiece Ascension. Pianist Stanley Cowell was just emerging as a distinctive voice among the open-minded 'Young Lions' of the day, on his way from Marion Brown's quartet to groups led by Max Roach. Bassist Reggie Johnson was already familiar with Slugs; he had worked there, alongside Ali and Cowell, across the previous two years. This stereo recording gives us a front row seat -- with all the grit and mayhem from those heady times. Meticulous remastering from the original tapes has polished this bit of East Village verité into a riveting, glistening-but-raw pearl from the black underground of the Sixties. 2xLP gatefold tip-on jacket, pressed on RTI Vinyl."

EVER ISLES Cocoon LP
Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith is an American composer, performer and producer, originally from Orcas Island and currently based in Los Angeles. After several self-released albums, Smith was signed to independent record label Western Vinyl in 2015, who released her first official album, Euclid, in January 2015. Tides: Music for the Meditation and Yoga (TTP 102LP), was released in January 2019. Smith grew up and was home-educated on Orcas Island, Northwestern Washington. She left the island to study composition and sound engineering at Berklee College of Music in Boston, before returning to the island after her graduation. It was after returning home that Smith discovered synthesizers, when a neighbor introduced her to the Buchla 100 Synthesizer. Having originally intended to use her voice as her primary instrument, and then moving to classical guitar and piano, Smith switched to the use of synthesizer after being leant and experimenting with the Buchla 100 for a year. Smith formed indie-folk band Ever Isles whilst still at Berklee but left the project after discovering the Buchla 100, explaining, "I got so distracted and enamored with the process of making sounds with [the Buchla's potential] that I abandoned the next Ever Isles album." When developing her composition skills, Smith used visual aid as inspiration for her music. She has said that she is always composing to a visual in her head, explaining, "Sometimes I let the sound create the image for me and then I build off that. Or vice versa: I come up with imagery that is inspiring to me, or I see something that is inspiring, and then create sounds that I feel match it." Recorded in 2009, Ever Isles' Cocoon is an experimental folk album made by Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith and Jeremy Harris on Orcas Island in an improvised recording studio built from bed mattresses. Smith and Harris, longtime friends, first met in 2004 while attending Berklee College of Music. Cocoon is the only remaining document of the Ever Isles project and offers a unique glimpse at the early work of Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith -- an era predating her discovery of synthesis when she was still playing classical guitar. Jeremy Harris, a multi-instrumentalist and neo-classical composer, engineered and co-produced the record with Smith. In 2016, Harris released Ages via Gnome Life Records.

WHITE, BUKKA Parchman Farm LP
"Born Booker T. Washington White, Bukka's trajectory as a blues performer follows a familiar template for his time. Born in Mississippi, maybe in Houston, MS -- maybe in Aberdeen, MS -- maybe in 1902, maybe in 1909 or even 1906 he recorded throughout the 1930s. Bukka even recorded while incarcerated in the Mississippi State Penitentiary aka Parchman Farm. Asked about his time at Parchman White commented 'Well, I mostly played guitar.' During the 1940s and 50s as Blues moved from the Delta to Chicago, from rural to urban, Bukka's career went dormant. And then, like many of his time, his talent was 'rediscovered' in the early 60s, in no small part thanks to a brilliant guitarist in his own right, John Fahey. Performances and all new recordings happened throughout the 60s, building interest in Bukka White's Delta roots. This compilation of White's best early material was first issued in 1969 (1970 in the US), collecting Bukka's 78s recorded for Vocalion and Okeh. His influence on rock performers of that day cannot be understated. He opened for rock bands he'd inspired at venues like The Fillmore, played his instrument in such a fashion that some said it's like he was trying to destroy that guitar, his most famous guitar, a 1933 National Duolian, was even known as 'Hard Rock.' And then there's the fact that his song 'Shake'em On Down' was so influential on Led Zeppelin that they, 'borrowed' from the song for both 'Hats Off To Roy Harper' and 'Custard Pie.' Bukka White was many things, a strong influence on his cousin B.B. King, a cotton picker, a mule driver, a hobo, a player in the old Negro Leagues, a boxer, a preacher, a convict, a factory laborer and, as celebrated here, one of America's blues pioneers."

ACRONYM WITH KORRIDOR Untitled 12"
2018 release. Back in 2015, two of Sweden's most coveted electronic musicians quietly collaborated. The outcomes where complied and made available via a trifling 20 self-released tapes, circulated by the duo during an event in Lithuania that same year. Soon after, a few of the tapes showed up in the second hand market occasionally trading hands for staggering prices, yet who ever came across one of the tape rips circulating the web quickly understood what the commotion was all about; brittle noise sequences and industrial laden overtones where contrasted against perplexingly rich dub techno arrangements and uplifting ambient soundscapes. The two tape sides contained densely interwoven material which both, reflected on the duos habitual outcome while also showcasing the two explore and express a new sonic thematic that was swelling in the concurring Swedish tape scene. In the end, the entire release felt like a strikingly personal glimpse into the esteemed duo's creative minds and to this day, it remains their only released collaborative endeavor. FIL, EKIN Heavy LP
In 2017, the track "Still Numbers" on Ekin Fil's album Heavy caught the attention of a certain Richard D. James, who under his "user18081971" username reposted the track to his now historic Soundcloud dump. This is also how Ekin's work initially caught the attention of labels; at first listen it sounded like an unearthed Grouper demo, a parallel that can be drawn respectfully, seeing Ekin's trademarks are also those forlorn, muffled vocal whispers, layered under sentimental tape loops, paired with ambience and feedback. The album itself was originally produced during what Ekin Fil recalls as a down right depressing and tumultuous time during which she turned to music as a measure of rehabilitation. Heavy was later released on tape via Lee Nobles No Kings label in 2016 and re-mastered in 2018 from the tape rips by Rashad Becker, preserving the fragile and heavy-hearted auditory sensibility found in the original work, while making one of Ekin's earliest and most personally endearing releases available to a new audience of listeners. GIULIANI, ROSARIO Love in Translation CD
Love in Translation marks the return (under the Jando Music/Via Veneto Jazz label) of an exciting collaboration between two protagonists of the international jazz scene which started twenty years ago at Umbria Jazz: Italian sax player Rosario Giuliani and US vibraphonist Joe Locke. Coming from different countries and with fairly distinct temperaments, these two artists have cultivated a vibrant and colorful musical style and are definitely bringing something new. They are accompanied by two other renowned artists, bassist Dario Deidda and drummer Roberto Gatto. With this intense and sophisticated album, Rosario and Joe celebrate the twentieth anniversary of their alchemical partnership and friendship. As the album's title itself suggests, Love in Translation is centered around the theme of love, the most powerful and enigmatic emotion. Among the famous standards contained are "Duke Ellington's Sound of Love" by Charles Mingus, "Love Letters" by Victor Young and Edward Heyman, and "Can't Help Falling in Love" of Elvis Presley's repertoire. CINDY LEE What's Tonight To Eternity LP
"For Patrick Flegel, Cindy Lee is more than just a recording music project. It is the culmination of a lifelong exploration of art, the electric guitar, queer identity and gender expression. 'Singers like Patsy Cline and The Supremes carried me through the hardest times of my life,' explains Flegel, 'and also provided the soundtrack to the best times.' Following the dissolution of Canadian experimental indie band Women, Flegel would delve deeper into songwriting that bends further toward high atmospherics and bracing melodies -- a unique space where splendor naturally collides with experimentation. Delivering moments of sheer beauty through somber reflections on longing and loneliness, Cindy Lee is something to hold onto in a world of disorder. What's Tonight To Eternity, Cindy Lee's fifth long-form offering, showcases the project's most entrancing strengths: ethereal snowdrift pop and sly nods toward classic girl-group motifs. Recorded at Flegel's Realistik Studios in Toronto and featuring younger brother Andrew Flegel on drums, the album travels hand in hand with a spectral guide. Flegel found inspiration for Cindy Lee in the form of Karen Carpenter, drawing on the singer/drummer's early recordings as well as her look and style. 'I found a deep interest and comfort in Karen's story, which is a cautionary tale about the monstrosity of show business, stardom at a young age and being a misfit looking for connection. The darkness and victimizing tabloid sensationalism she suffered is easily tempered and overwhelmed by her earnest output, her artistry, her tireless work ethic. Something utterly unique and magical takes shape in the negative space, out of exclusion. What I relate to in her has to do with what is hidden, what is unknown.' What's Tonight To Eternity remains a mix of pop culture indoctrination, pain and suffering, hopes and dreams, fierce confrontations and wide-open confessional blurs. Closing with the song 'Heavy Metal' (dedicated to the memory of former Women bandmate Chris Reimer) and adorned by Andrea Lukic's Journal of Smack artwork, the album continues the bold and rewarding path on which Cindy Lee has embarked."

BOONLORM Omniscient Wildin' 12"
Wilde Calm Records present Omniscient Wildin', the follow-up release to Boonlorm's classic piano-not piano house album, String Figures (SDGWC 1401CD, 2013). A decidedly techno approach was taken for the six-track EP, with Boonlorm setting the master tempo to 130 BPM and utilizing a rugged economy to emphasize the rhythmic and melodic dialog between drums and prepared piano. This percussion discussion quotes the past syntax of Chicago and Detroit, the 20th century avant-garde and the bold new dialects being created for dance floors around the globe. Edition of 400, full-color jackets with artwork by Daniel Davidson.

SADEE, STIJN XXX008 (with Manfredas Remix) 12"
XXX starts 2020 fresh with catalog number XXX008. A diverse EP with four original tracks by Stijn Sadée, who had a killer release on Kitjen in 2018. It's not the first time Stijn Sadée has released on XXX, but this time he delivered a proper EP. Manfredas is on remix duty on the B-side. When Stijn was playing his live set on a festival in Amsterdam, Manfredas saw him play. They clicked sound-wise and a remix idea was born. Artwork was made by artist Thomas Sadée in collaboration with Stijn.
