REZNIK & MIKESH The Moon Landing Was A Hoax LP
Just act like it didn't happen... Reznik & Mikesh crack open a fine vintage bottle of conspiracy with the scorching truth bomb The Moon Landing Was A Hoax. Following their remix of Telepopmusik in 2019, the freshly-formed duo of Keinemusik affiliates deliver such an acid weapon Justin Strauss insisted they release it after it caused total Panorama Bar meltdown for him. In case you missed the inaugural edit, "The Moon Landing Was A Hoax" takes off with pure 303 bounces before sharp vocal cuts pepper the mix leading to a heaven-opening breakdown. Total euphoria; it's so powerful it totally misses the lunar landscape and spins us back around our own planet faster and faster with every emphatic layer. Reznik & Mikesh's "Area 51 Infinite Mix" adds three more minutes of feels, creating this immense drama that sits somewhere between Chemical Brothers and Two Lone Swordsmen. It's backed by a giant leap of a remix by Justin Strauss himself. Teaming up with Throne of Blood's Max Pask, they take it up through the gears, ramping the rolling acid tension until the last two minutes pays out the euphoria jolt we're waiting for. File under rocket-fuel. There are no small steps elsewhere on this trip either; "The Nostromo Swerve" goes intergalactic with such tense, epic acid techno thunder it could dodge entire black holes while "Kiss My Axe" goes all-out Stingray-style electro with its gravity-defying breakbeat swing and sweeping layers of melancholy synths. Total celestial immersion: in space, no one can hear you scream, dream or even make up hoaxes... Happy landings.

OCIYA AKA PATRICIA & TIN MAN Acid Test 015 12"
As Ociya, hardware freaks Tin Man (Johannes Auvinen) and Patricia (Max Ravitz), come together in unholy acid matrimony on a definitive double-album, Powers Of Ten. Over a prolific run of records for Acid Test and his own Global A, Auvinen has expounded upon the promise of "Nonneo" (named one of Resident Advisor's 2010-19: Tracks Of The Decade), unearthing new, emotional vistas from the Roland TB-303. Ravitz, meanwhile, matches Tin Man in studio ethic, establishing himself as one of North America's hardware masters on records for Ghostly and Opal Tapes. The 12", simply called Acid Test 15, features a remix from Plasmic Eddy.

OCIYA AKA PATRICIA & TIN MAN Powers Of Ten 2LP
What couldn't have predicted is how well the parts merge. Cuts like "Ghost Moons" channel the hazy IDM legacies of the past, while "Hopeful Galaxy" mixes a plaintive Rhodes motif with a hopeful 303 line for the perfect "tears on the dance floor" cut. The track titles on Power Of Ten -- a perfect melodic techno LP generously spread across two records -- are celestially minded ("Gravity Knots", "Star Scraping") and indeed, the cosmic metaphor is apt or the newly-formed duo. On Powers Of Ten, Tin Man's acid lines rocket through space like brilliant, shooting stars. His signature orchestral acid moments are given the perfect backdrop, the nebula of Patricia's rich atmospherics and melodies. The album was recorded live to 2-track in Patricia's studio in New York, no edits.

ASTATKE & BLACK JESUS EXPERIENCE, MULATU To Know Without Knowing CD
To Know Without Knowing, Mulatu Astatke & Black Jesus Experience's album, is their second together. A grooving transcontinental gem, recorded in Melbourne, Australia, and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Filled with the warmth of the mentorship and friendship of their creative partnership honed over a decade of performing together in Africa, Australia, and UK/Europe. Mulatu Astatke is the father of Ethio-jazz and one of Africa's most influential and enduring musical figures. Black Jesus Experience is a community of artists, centered around a twelve-piece global-funk-machine born of Australia's vibrant multiculturalism. Mulatu and Black Jesus Experience met in Addis Ababa in 2009, embarking on both a musical relationship and a friendship that has led Mulatu Astake to describe Black Jesus Experience as, "My favorite backing band" and, "...they're family." Mulatu's great contribution to music has been to combine Jazz and funk grooves with Ethiopia's distinctive pentatonic scales. His musical genius is the sensuality and sophistication with which Mulatu contrasts these minimalist scales with richly chromatic harmony. But Mulatu's equally great contribution has been to share both his enduringly unique modernity and Ethiopia's timelessly spiritual music with the world. Black Jesus Experience treasure the special relationship of generosity, mentorship and collaboration they have been privileged to share with this master musician. To Know Without Knowing is the product of this gift.

RICOTTI & ALBUQUERQUE First Wind LP
Alternative Fox present a reissue of Ricotti & Albuquerque's First Wind, originally released in 1971. Percussionist Frank Ricotti played in the National Youth Orchestra and was rated the UK's top vibraphonist during the late 1960s. In 1971, with guitarist Mike de Albuquerque, he cut the multifaceted jazz album, First Wind, which alternated between experimental rock-influenced jazz and thoughtful adaptations of work by James Taylor, John Sebastian, and Melanie Safka, with some surprising blues diversions too, such as Albuquerque's "Go Out And Get It". However, Albuquerque soon joined ELO as a bassist, putting an end to the duo.

SHEPP, ARCHIE The Tradition 2LP
Alternative Fox present a reissue of Archie Shepp's The Tradition, originally released in 1978. Avant-garde giant Archie Shepp made an indelible contribution to experimental jazz. Double-LP The Tradition was recorded in Rome in 1977 for Horo Records with drummer Clifford Jarvis and bassist Cameron Brown; the raucous "Hooray For Mal" has shades of be-bop, while Duke Ellington's "Sophisticated Lady" is largely tackled by Shepp on upright piano (with gorgeous soloing by Brown); "Things Have Got To Change" hearkens to Shepp's experience of the Pan-African Cultural Festival of Algiers of 1969 and Ellington's "I Didn't Know About You" is relayed as a soft tenor ballad with rough edges.

WALDRON & GARY PEACOCK, MAL First Encounter LP
Alternative Fox presents a reissue of Mal Waldron and Gary Peacock's First Encounter, originally released in 1971. After playing with Mingus, Coltrane, Lady Day, and Abbey Lincoln, inventive jazz pianist Mal Waldron moved to Europe and first reached Japan in 1970, where he met Idaho-born double-bassist Gary Peacock, who had played with Art Pepper, Bud Shank, Bill Evans, and free-jazz giant Albert Ayler before moving to Japan to study Zen Buddhism. First Encounter, recorded in Tokyo in 1971 for French producer Herve Bergerat, shows that the intense pairing was quite natural, the harmonic dissonance of Waldron's "She Walks In Beauty" contrasted by the up-tempo groove of Peacock's "What's That"; future Native Son founder Hiroshi Murakami makes important contribution on drums.

FORTINI, AGOSTINO NIRODH Suoni Immaginari CD
Before his prolific activity in the field of music therapy, Agostino Nirodh Fortini also embarked on his own path in electronic music. In the early 80s, he was a close collaborator of Walter Maioli and Fred Gales, at the time of the pioneering label Sound Reporters. Suoni Immaginari, released only on cassette privately in 1988, contains a wide range of keyboards and lots of ethnic field recordings assembled with an absolutely modern praxis ahead of its time. Nirodh imagines his planetary odysseys as a complex of harmonic devices, nebula storms, glassy explosions and gravity-free falls. His operational horizon reflects further cultural ideas and suggestions; not only the artifice between natural sounds and the programmed machine but also the intrusion of arabesque dreams and jungles contaminated by invading insects and mad pipers. These are spectral symphonies which can have analogies with the fourth world of Hassell and Eno.

GROSSKOPF, HARALD Synthesist (40th Anniversary Edition) 2CD
Bureau B present a 40th Anniversary Edition reissue of Harald Grosskopf's Synthesis, originally released on Sky Records in 1980. 40th Anniversary Edition features new interpretations by Steve Baltes, Thorsten Quaeschning, Paul Frick, Kreidler, Pyrolator, Love-Songs, Stefan Lewin, Camera, and Tellavision."Harald Grosskopf was in his early twenties when LSD "blew [his] reality away", as he recalls. Born in Hildesheim in 1949, he had previously drummed in fairly conventional rock bands, most recently for Wallenstein. Their label boss Rolf-Ulrich Kaiser was fond of facilitating jam sessions for musicians on his Ohr und Pilz label, often supplying his 'cosmic couriers' with LSD (unbeknown to them, on occasion). In one such session, the drug inspired something of an epiphany in Grosskopf: 'There I was playing the drums when, in the midst of my euphoria, I realized that I had been imitating other drummers. Suddenly a voice spoke to me: stop trying to sound like Billy Cobham or Ginger Baker. From that moment on I felt liberated, free to drum without having to shine in a particular role.' Having discovered his own musical identity, Harald Grosskopf understood that a standard rock combo was not the ideal conduit through which to express it . . . Grosskopf consequently left Wallenstein. 'I fell into a hole at first, wondering what I was going to do. So I sold my prized drum kit and used the money to buy a guitar, amp and echo device.' A few days later, the doorbell rang. It was Manuel Göttsching, on his way back to Berlin from a tour of France. They knew each other from Berlin's electronic scene and recording sessions for the likes of Ash Ra Tempel. Göttsching invited Grosskopf to sign up for his new project Ashra and the rest is history: Ashra (Grosskopf, Göttsching, Lutz Ulbrich alias Lüül) released a series of successful albums in the years that followed. It was not until the summer of 1979, however, that he finally felt ready to release a solo album. Synthesist comprises eight instrumentals, recorded largely by Grosskopf on his own. His melodies, carried along by synthesizers and drums, were reminiscent of works by Berlin electronic friends such as Klaus Schulze and Tangerine Dream, as well as those 'cosmic' sessions of the early 1970s -- yet each melody retains a unique timbre. Synthesist is thus regarded as a classic by electronic music enthusiasts all over the world, evoking a thrilling musical era of the past with equal capacity to excite today." --Christoph Dallach

LOVE-SONGS Nicht Nicht CD
Hamburg-based Love-Songs' newest output Nicht Nicht continues the band's striving to mesh defined grids with improvisatory snapshots to create their very own take on organic electronica. Since 2012, the electro-acoustic trio were able to explore the possibilities of their free-flowing interplay through the course of several EPs and the mini-album Inselbegabung (2018), which was released on Kame House. Now they are ready to submit their debut album Nicht Nicht on Bureau B. Meandering through its seven tracks, Nicht Nicht contains the trio's most aerially shimmering tracks to date flanked by tribal bouncers. The record begins with a live recording of the band. The transparent and crisp "Proxy I" almost sculpturally rotates through the space it occupies. Sublime ripples. Meditative clusters of Chinese cymbals define the percussion, delayed waves of bass break, as gently pulsating synths weave their way through the sonosphere. "Selbstauflöser Teil II" and "Das Labyrinth" are percussive bouncers and serve a contemporary club appeal that has always been a feature in the band's oeuvre. Love-Songs have found their way into the setlists of DJs such as Phuong Dan and John Talabot and also live their music works in clubby situations. The reprise "Nicht Nicht" takes the intensity level down a notch, nervously, restlessly lurching towards the A-side's runout groove. "Tisch mit drei Weinen" is the pop song on the record. Staccato bass, pumping arpeggios, and, again, Chinese cymbals, but this time processed and treated, roll out a canvas for Thomas Korf's lyrics. "Proxy II" begins with dotted, open jazz drums before unraveling in a meditative rumble. Frothing up without losing its pulse, the track ends abruptly in a shimmering clangor. Synthetic choirs at the end evoke the processed, outernational sounds of so called "fourth world music", an influence that can also be ascertained on the final track, the dubby "OG". An organic groove runs through the album's closer, switching up to an atmospheric, jazzy vibe. With the work on Nicht Nicht, Love-Songs continue to place more emphasis on the studio itself as an instrument. Ideas are elicited from live improvisations, then processed and arranged on the computer, not infrequently translated back into an intimate interplay of instruments and yet the individual elements display a disciplined awareness of the whole. Electronics assume dual roles in terms of structure and ornamentation: rendering form and embellishing with melody and noise.

GLOK Dissident LP
GLOK is the electronic solo project from Andy Bell of shoegaze legends Ride (formerly of Oasis/Beady Eye/Hurricane #1). His debut album under the moniker, Dissident, was originally released in 2019 on a limited-edition cassette by Bytes, an offshoot of Ransom Note Records. That sold out in 24 hours, and was followed by a vinyl pressing of 500 copies, on transparent green vinyl. However, with that edition now sold out pretty much via word-of-mouth, due to popular demand, Dissident is being repressed and is this time being made available to a wider audience. The name GLOK is a misspelling of the German word for "Bell". The German connection fits well as there is a strong krautrock influence in the music, especially on the title track, an epic clocking in just shy of the 20-minute mark, which blends synth wave, minimalism, trance, Detroit techno, and John Carpenter soundtracks, with Andy even dropping in some killer John Squire-esque guitar licks. The album was supported by Andrew Weatherall, Justin Robertson, Tom Ravenscroft at BBC 6 Music, The Times, Electronic Sound, Clash, DJ Mag, ChainDLK, Stamp the Wax, and Groove. Transparent red vinyl.

VILLALOBOS, RICARDO Mandela Move EP 2x12"
2020 repress. Berlin mainstay Ricardo Villalobos delivers the Mandela Move EP, a four-track EP of freshly stripped-back dancefloor movers saturated in brilliantly clever, unorthodox, and masterful sound design. Arriving as the second release on the Deset label, Ricardo Villalobos offers his incredible production talents to the blossoming Italian label, already heavily desired by both discerning DJs and punters alike. "Mandela Move" is a patient club cut in true Villalobos style: loopy, track-y, and trippy. Sonically shapeshifting in different directions, surprise percussion changes, perfectly sourced samples and a storytelling theme from start to end. "Frontec" is a shimmering 13-minute banger focused on only the most important elements and effects. Live percussion and fantastic tones sprinkle throughout with creatively tuned bells and whistles scattered across in a way only Ricardo can do. "Ectroscop" comes complete with some fuzzy bass frequencies and twisted vocal samples which rest under the surface. The loose rhythm structure and general freedom of the track confirms a true dance cut destined to be a favorite for the crowds listening closely. "Beetglass" is centered around a shuffling house foundation with huge synth swirls which come seemingly out of nowhere. Truly a primetime Villalobos banger if there's ever been one. Destined to lift the heads off the lucky folks on the floor when it's played.

GILBERTO, JOAO The Warm World Of Joao Gilberto LP
Down At Dawn present a reissue of The Warm World Of João Gilberto, originally released in 1963. In summer 1958, João Gilberto -- an unknown 28 year-old Brazilian guitarist and singer from Bahia -- made his recording debut as a singer with two songs "Chega de Saudade" and "Bim Bom". With a new rhythmic feeling, batida, and rich harmonies he laid the basis of the modern Brazilian samba, now known as bossa nova. Underpinned by his insouciantly swinging guitar, João's seductive, vibrato-less vocals caressed both ear and soul in a mesmerizing, highly addictive combination, refreshing and modern. "Chega De Saudade" was a hit, launching Gilberto's career and the bossa nova craze. Soon, singers and guitarists were trying to imitate him and composers were all on a "Desafinado" (the second of Gilberto's hits) and "Chega De Saudade" kick. The long-awaited renewal of the Brazilian samba was now a fact. Antonio Carlos Jobim said: "Gilberto appeared as a light, as a big star in the firmament, in the heavens. He became a focus, because he was pulling the guitar in one way and singing the other way, which created a third thing that was profound. Yes, the guy who brought the bossa nova beat to the world was João Gilberto."

Down At Dawn present a reissue of Joe Harriot Quintet And Sextet's Southern Horizons, originally released in 1960. This is Harriott on the verge of the free form/abstract period, but here, still anchored in the hard bop mode. This is stylish, elegant, tight, swinging; whatever label of appreciation you want to attach to it, this is still fresh music creation. This record sticks to the quintet line-up of sax, trumpet, piano, bass, and drums (as on Movement), but with the added pizzazz of a superb bongo player on a couple of tracks, just to heighten the sense of hepness to the proceedings. Partly original compositions, partly covers (including a dynamic take on "Caravan"), this was Harriott's first long-playing record as a leader. Personnel: Joe Harriott - alto saxophone; Coleridge Goode - bass; Frank Holder - bongos; Bobby Orr - drums; Harry South - Piano; Hank Shaw - trumpet; Shake Keane - trumpet, flugelhorn.

SMITH, JIMMY House Party LP
Down At Dawn Records present a reissue of House Party, the fourteenth album by American jazz organist Jimmy Smith, featuring performances recorded in 1957 and 1958 and originally released on Blue Note. Rudy Van Gelder used the Manhattan Towers Hotel Ballroom in New York City for recording sessions from 1957-1958, while he was still using his parents' Hackensack, New Jersey home studio to record artists for Blue Note. House Party was the first of two Smith albums recorded on two dates; the second was Smith's next album The Sermon! (DAD 101LP, 2018), originally released in 1959. Van Gelder mainly used the ballroom for larger groups of musicians that would not fit in his parents' living room, or when New York was a more convenient location to record the artists involved.

TYNER, MCCOY Nights Of Ballads & Blues LP
Down at Dawn presents a reissue of McCoy Tyner's Nights Of Ballads & Blues, originally released on Impulse! in 1963. "As the title implies, this McCoy Tyner release is a low-key, after-hours affair. Far removed from the intensity of work with then-boss John Coltrane, Tyner stretches out on a fine mix of standards and bebop classics. The pianist, of course, always had his own fleet and rich way with ballads, in spite of the galvanizing marathon solos he became known for on live dates and his later experimental recordings with Coltrane. His ballad style is even touched with a bit of sentimentality, which thankfully is kept in check by a bevy of tasteful lines. Backed by the top-notch rhythm tandem of bassist Steve Davis and drummer Lex Humphries, Tyner finds the room to develop classic statements on highlights like Monk's 'Round Midnight,' Ellington and Strayhorn's 'Satin Doll,' and Parker's 'Star Eyes.' On more easeful tracks like 'For Heaven's Sake,' Tyner utilizes his block chord approach to meditative and romantic effect. Rounded out by solid blues sides like 'Blue Monk' and Tyner's own 'Groove Waltz,' Nights of Ballads & Blues qualifies as one of the pianist's most enjoyable early discs." --AllMusic

SEPALOT QUARTET NOWNEXT LP
NOWNEXT is a voyage from the past to the future, from now to then, from what's behind us to what's waiting for us just around the next corner. In musical terms these are the gaps that appear when you drift between genres and take risks. Strolling far from the well-traveled Zeitgeist path. The second album by the Sepalot Quartet floats through this timeless space and fills those cracks with a relaxed fusion of jazz meets indie meets electronica, not once denying Sepalot's hip hop roots. This freedom of expression can also be considered a sign of our times, with a generation coming of age without rivalling youth phenomena. Where a jazz show is held in a techno club with no further explanation needed. With their first release, the Quartet still relied on remakes from the established Sepalot discography, with their current work they laid the foundation for a truly solid form of musical self-discovery. NOWNEXT is enlivened by this spirit and offers a fascinating and confident blend of varied sounds spanning time and space. With all this being said, NOWNEXT is truly an up to date album of international format, feeding from the rich experience of its diverse members (Sepalot, Angela Aux, Fabian Füss, Matthias Lindermayr). Memories, associations, and a well carved vision are melted into a masterpiece. NOWNEXT is the latest offering by Sepalot and his quartet and needs to experience with all senses.

JELINEK, JAN Tierbeobachtungen LP
Faitiche presents Jan Jelinek's album Tierbeoachtungen on vinyl for the first time, originally released on Scape in 2006. The album's six tracks took their cues from Jelinek's live concerts of that period: dense, slowly unfolding loop improvisations made with a laptop, various effect pedals, and miniature synthesizers. It is music that floats in a semi-conscious state between dream and awakening, always slightly mysterious, leaving traces that lead directly to the psychedelic-cosmic music of the kraut era. Includes download code.In his release notes for Tierbeobachtungen at the time, the late lamented Martin Büsser wrote (2006): "The animal is experiencing a renaissance in music. It provides a reflective surface for our notion of the unbridled and irrational, of that Other the philosophers Deleuze/Guattari -- as part of their 'Animalisation' -- called the embodiment of artistic deliverance. And yet, how much of a liberation can art actually tolerate? To what extent can music truly throw off its fetters without descending into chaos? Jan Jelinek's album title provides a first hint of this development: Tierbeobachtungen (animal observations) is his fourth album for ~scape, and it addresses the issue of release and liberation. Recorded almost in transit, while preparing his move to a new studio, the tracks reveal and relish in their improvisational character, and drifting, lost sound -- yet they never lose sight of their underlying structure. Tierbeobachtungen might be Jelinek's freest and most personal work, with simply arranged tracks based on four to five layered and modulated loops, while his own studio equipment provides the main sampling sources, from synthesizer and guitaret to vibraphonette. Jelinek takes on the role of observer on this record, with a level of reflection remaining audible throughout. However, this is by no means intellectual, distanced music -- Jelinek leads us straight into a thicket, an acoustic jungle where sumptuous splendour meets the uncanny. A long tradition of psychedelic music pervades the recordings -- Amon Düül, Cluster, My Bloody Valentine -- yet whatever musical memories might vie for our attention, these are no clear-cut references, just loose associations. . . Similar to the pioneers of industrial music, like Cabaret Voltaire or Zoviet France, who experimented with field recordings to challenge Western listening habits, Tierbeobachtungen takes us to new, unknown territories and brims with sounds that defy geographic or stylistic classification, not unlike the semi-conscious state between dream and awakening. NAUJAWANAN BAIDAR Volume 1 & 2 2LP
Cardinal Fuzz and Feeding Tube Records release Naujawanana Baidar's Volume 1 & 2 as a double-LP vinyl. Naujawanan Baidar (Farsi for Enlightened Youth) is the project of artist and musician N.R. Safi (The Myrrors). With roots in the now-endangered sounds of 1960s-80s Afghan cassette culture, Naujawanan Baidar filters the traditional music of Safi's paternal heritage through a labyrinth of buzzing drones, tape manipulation, and fuzz-drenched percussion, warping both traditional and popular forms into a tangled mass of tape-saturated noise inspired by the very medium that once carried them. Traditional folk instruments (both acoustic and home-amplified) like the rubab, armonia, sorna, and tabla, twist and melt into blown-out electrical storms, proving that one does not necessarily need guitars or any other standard western instrumentation to channel the trance-like energy of rock and roll. Although the end results may sound far removed from the original artists that helped inspired them (legendary performers like Ahmad Zahir, Beltoon and Hamidullah, or Salma Jahani) there is something to be said for this "new" or "imagined" form of contemporary Afghan experimental music. Had the dusty backstreets of pre-war Kabul birthed an experimental music scene paralleling German's krautrock movement, one can imagine that the results might have sounded a little something like this. These tracks were cut over the course of 2017 to 2019 as a sort of sonic notebook, documenting the evolution of the project as it first took shape. Though the majority were originally conceived of as nothing more than demos or impressionistic sketches, the spontaneous and ramshackle approach of the tapes was eventually deemed more than befitting the spirit of the project. Naujawanan Baidar both reaffirms its ties to a relatively hidden (to outside eyes at least) cultural history while at the same time pushing outwards into new and unexplored territories. Originally released via Radio Khiyaban on cassette (the packaging and artwork on both cassette releases was a direct homage to 1970s Afghan tape design).

NAD SPIRO Pedreres LP
New album from Nad Spiro in a special vinyl edition co-released by Geometrik and Munster Records. In her new sonic fiction, Rosa Arruti, aka Nad Spiro, reveals an unusual dimension of her work, using just one guitar and four pedals on her sonic explorations through the lost quarries of Montjuïc, the legendary mountain of Barcelona. Armed just with her guitar, Spiro activates subterranean echoes, spectral loops, and secret vibrations on an initiation trip through invisible labyrinths. Enigmatically as ever, she invites us to go deep into the sound magma while dedicating each composition to one of the lost pedreres (quarries) of evocative name, hidden nowadays under a different urbanscape. The Spanish experimental pioneer Rosa Arruti -- an essential figure in Barcelona's cutting-edge music scene since the late '70s -- has worked for many years under the secretive alias Nad Spiro, a solo venture where she explores unfrequented audio zones in the outer peripheries of electronica, building her complex guitar sounds into a world of unique textures and sound fictions. Besides her albums on the prestigious Geometrik Records (the Spanish label of Esplendor Geométrico), her work has been released on imprints like Farpoint Recordings, Silent Records, Sloow Tapes, and on international compilations like Wire Magazine or Contemporary Music Review. Apart from taking part in cult bands in Barcelona's avant-garde underground (Psicópatas del Norte, TendreTembles, MohoChemie...), Rosa Arruti's extensive experience includes collaborations with artists like My Cat is An Alien, Kim Cascone, and Mark Beazley."A walk to the threshold of the underground: magma, liquid in solid state or solid in SONIC state. Esotronicmuzak. Or exo-exotica. That's what Nad Spiro sounds like, here and now. Some of the sounds she unleashes represent an audio invocation in ritual mode with (why not) Lynchian resonances, a Mondo Tulpa of suggestive and disturbing atmospheres: coups de guitar, wave vibrations, notes as psy triggers, activating again the soul of the mineral, exciting the rock, provoking again its infinite growth. Do re mi fa sol BLAST!! Strategic sounds for a strategic territory celebrated by Pedreres, a deriva across the haunted rock." --MK-Ibáñez

SONIC DAWN, THE Enter the Mirage CD
Enter the Mirage is arguably the most blazing and powerful album yet by The Sonic Dawn. It has an unusual live feel for a studio album, packing much of the raw energy and electricity that has made The Sonic Dawn's psychedelic concerts famous in the rock underground. Enter the Mirage's overall theme is freedom. It is about visions that may seem too distant to be real, but only those who take the trip will ever really find out. Frontman, Emil Bureau, explains the album's inception: "First I lost my father, then I lost my job and finally I lost my will to be a servant of anything that isn't peace, love, and freedom. It should be simple, but in this world it isn't. Instead of getting back on the so-called career path, which is generally a dead end, I took a leap of faith, with the band's support." Bureau spent half a year in a songwriting frenzy, spawning not only Enter the Mirage by The Sonic Dawn, but also a solo album in the folk genre (HPS 126CD/LP/LT-LP). To give form to these song ideas, the Danish trio rented a space in the gloomiest part of Copenhagen, set up a studio there and rocked out for two months. You hear that roughness, present as a determined attitude from a tightly knit band. With three past albums and some 200 shows under their belt, The Sonic Dawn is a psychedelic group to be reckoned with. However, at the end of their long and laborious creative process, the band was completely broke. Fortunately, friend and former producer, Thomas Vang, allowed them to mix the album in The Village Recording at night, after his own sessions. Thanks to this, and a skillful mastering by Hans Olsson Brookes (Graveyard, et al.) Enter the Mirage puts the HIGH back in high fidelity. Turn up the volume and experience The Sonic Dawn. LP versions available on standard black vinyl and limited-edition blue vinyl.

GEEZER Groovy CD
Groovy brings a jam-ready mentality together with sharp-edged songcraft. The material is united by that central undercurrent -- timeless and undeniable. "We spent the better part of a year jamming, developing ideas and fine-tuning arrangements," Pat Harrington informs. "This is the first time since the self-titled record that we took the time to really flesh out song structures, tempos, etc. I always talk about the 'three pillars' of the Geezer sound: heavy, trippy, and groovy. With this album, some songs are heavy, some are trippy, but they ALL had to be groovy." Regardless of tempo, mood, or any other theme that might show up in the songs, Groovy is a love-letter to groove itself, and in paying that homage, Geezer have discovered the truest reality of themselves yet. Whatever else groovy is, it's them. Based in Kingston, NY, Geezer formed in 2012 and have made a bluesy spirit a staple of their approach, and especially with 2014's Gage and their 2016 self-titled leading into Psychoriffadelia, they expanded this idea to more open, jammier explorations, a take on heavy psychedelia still informed by the swamp that led to their first European tour in 2017, including Freak Valley Festival in Germany. They have shared stages with High on Fire, Acid King, Nebula, Earthless, Ufomammut, and many more. After spending the better part of the last three years touring, writing, and solidifying their lineup around guitarist/vocalist Pat Harrington, bassist Richie Touseull, drummer Steve Markota, the Kingston-based trio return with what is unquestionably their most realized work to-date, Groovy. It is their fourth long-player and solidifies their approach to trippy, heavy blues, and classic songwriting.

PITTO Baila Baila EP 12"
Pitto is not one to flood the scene with new music considering he's only released two EPs in the last three years. He takes the time to let ideas evolve and it's clearly noticeable on 2019's EP on Something Happening Somewhere sublabel Ooshaa (OOSSHA 001EP), where his feel for an almost poppy hook is perfectly combined with his love for darker electronics. On the Baila Baila EP -- his return to Heist Recordings after his last EP in 2018 (HESIT 032EP) -- he explores this path further. The EP is filled with live percussion, a dark and rolling acid line, chopped beats, and catchy piano riffs. The three originals are accompanied by a remix courtesy of Pete Herbert that has "summer" written all over it. Opening track "Sammie" has a beautiful sense of melancholy to it, where an emotional piano riff is combined with some '80s tinged vocals and loads of live percussive elements for a smile inducing experience. "Discko" takes a darker approach with a deep and "dubby" low end and a guitar riff that wouldn't be out of place on a Caribou track. The horn section and synth lead give it a real crossover appeal and it's the kind of track you imagine working just as well on a summer festival as in a dark basement. On the flip, there's the title track "Baila", a proto inspired acid stomper with a nice wink to early '90s dance music vocals. An acid line gives the track its backbone, but it's the combination of Pitto's chords and instrumentation that give this track it's unique edge. The EP finishes off with Pete Herbert's remix of "Sammie". Pete's version has that full-on summer appeal with his recognizable style of modern day island disco. He adds a bit of drama to the track with some big breakdowns, changeovers in the piano riff and turns the Balearic vibe up a notch with an added dreamy solo.

CAIRO FREE JAZZ ENSEMBLE Heliopolis LP
Holiday Records present the first ever authorized reissue Cairo Free Jazz Ensemble's Heliopolis, originally released in 1970. Released under license from the artist. One of the great projects in Egyptian jazz, the Cairo Free Jazz Ensemble was formed by Salah Ragab and Hartmut Geerken as an avant-garde offshoot of The Cairo Jazz Band, the first jazz big band in the country. Formed in 1968 when Ragab was appointed chief of Egypt's Military Department of Music and had at his disposal a vast staff of musicians (almost three thousand!), an entire military building, and a full range collection of musical instruments. When encountering this recording, issued in 1970, the deep resonance found between the ensemble and its American counterparts becomes startlingly clear. Heliopolis is a stunning blend of big band spiritual jazz, the music of the Middle East, and the fire and energy of free jazz, unveiling a deep creative resonance with the contemporaneous efforts of Pharaoh Sanders, Phil Cohran, and of course Sun Ra, combining jazz instrumentation and musical style with indigenous melodies and instruments to create a musical object with few parallels. The album is a throbbing, squealing, wild journey through the creative heights of sound channeling swirling, focused artistry that taps future and past in a single blow. Copies of the original pressing are between the rarest and most sought-after records in canon of recorded jazz.

ASTRAL TRAVEL If You Say You Are From This Planet, Why Do You Treat It Like You Do? CD
Enter a world in which drummer and composer Tommaso Cappellato leads a new configuration of his Astral Travel ensemble, comprised of select improvisers from the contemporary creative music scene. Inspired by the poetry of Sun Ra inscribed within the pages of the book This Planet Is Doomed, the music and lyrics focus on the current consciousness of the planet, raising questions and issues of humanity's collective spiritual direction. The body of work contained in this album is the result of numerous live-in-studio improvisations, deconstructed in a meticulous post-production process by avant-garde electronic producer Rabih Beaini. Vocalists Dwight Trible and Camilla Battaglia sing and declaim the poems, which are enveloped in a spontaneous musical magma. Each piece is collectively created by Tommaso Cappellato on drums along with pianist Fabrizio Puglisi, reeds player Piero Bittolo Bon, who also contributes to the electronic soundscape, and double bassist Marco Privato. Astral Travel was created in memory of Cappellato's late mentor, pianist and arranger Harry Whitaker, composer of the '70s masterpiece Black Renaissance. The ensemble debuted in 2013 with the release of the album Cosm'ethic for UK label, Jazz Re:freshed. It was later re-issued on Japanese imprint P-Vine Records -- a success that earned Cappellato the JAJ Award from Shuya Okino, acknowledging him as the year's best new artist. A major highlight of the collective's journey thus far includes a performance in Berlin as part of a tribute to Arthur Blythe, staged by Jaw Family in conjunction with Gilles Peterson and the Steve Reid Foundation.

RONE Room With A View CD
Rone is electronic producer Erwan Castex and his fifth album is titled Room With A View, which marks a major moment in the Frenchman's career. The album was produced alongside a live show commissioned by the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris and developed together with choreography collective (LA) HORDE and 20 dancers of the Ballet National de Marseille. This new kind of collaborative approach allowed Rone to produce his most sincere and far-reaching music in some time. Inspired by discussions of collapsologie and climate change, Room With A View offers food for thought on how to deal with one of the most pressing issues of humanity. Room With A View sees Rone returning to his musical roots and the set-up of his early albums: purely electronic, solitarily conceived without any musical collaborators. At the same time, he was able to leave his comfort zone through a new kind of artistic liaison. The production of the corresponding show inspired the album and vice versa. Room With A View works perfectly as a standalone album, still the outcome is a firmly intertwined piece of modern dance and electronic music that comes with a more serious goal than mere musical innovation. Room With A View was written and produced in 2019 within nine months. Its foundation was laid during a stay at the former house of writer George Sand in the rural area of Nohant, the place where Frédéric Chopin composed a third of his music. Musically, Rone manages to let his trademark sound shine in a new light, pleasing early fans as well as every electronica enthusiast. Typically melodic beats like "Ginkgo Biloba" nestle against tracks that exhibit classic influences from Boards of Canada ("La Marbrerie") to SAW-era Aphex Twin ("Raverie"), euphoric dancefloor rhythms sit next to contemplative synth work. Tracks like "Sophora Japonica" showcase Rone's mastership in atmosphere, which sometimes requires no drums at all. Elsewhere, Rone is clearly reviving the club-centric vibe of "Tohu Bohu" and experimenting with elements of dub. It all makes for an adventurous and rewarding listen. Most importantly, Rone is redefining the notion of "organic" in electronic music through use of field and voice recordings. Room With A View has personal connotations for Rone, but it's also connected to how we observe phenomena in the modern world.

GROSSMANN, MURIEL Elevation CD
Born in Paris, raised in Vienna, resident in Ibiza, saxophonist and composer Muriel Grossmann embodies the borderless, pan-continental energies of contemporary European jazz. Her music emerges from the lineage of European jazz that's absorbed the progressive music of Coltrane, Dolphy, and Sanders. Today, she cites players such as Illinois Jacquet and Lester Young in the same breath as the masters of the avant-garde, and her playing marries the directness and eloquence of the older generation with the questing, spiritualized playing epitomized by Coltrane. The roster of musicians she has played with is long, and includes veteran European avant-gardists including Joachim and Rolf Kühn, Wolfgang Reisinger and Thomas Heidepriem, and she works tirelessly with contemporary groups and big bands across the continent. Since her first recordings in the early 2000s, Grossmann has released a dozen albums as leader, featuring sounds ranging from hard-swinging modernist jams to free improvisation, expansive spiritual work to rhythm-focused Afrocentrism. But at the center of her work is a thread of pure and heartfelt spiritual music in the modal tradition defined by Coltrane and close collaborators like Pharoah Sanders and Alice Coltrane. You can't play this music successfully if you don't mean it; like the music of her contemporary Nat Birchall, Grossmann's engagement with the Coltrane tradition is sincere and deep. Her music resonates within the tradition; more than just a style, it adds a new chapter to the story of modal and spiritual jazz in Europe. This Jazzman set draws a selection from her 2016 album Natural Time ("Your Pace", "Peace For All") and from 2017's Momentum ("Elevation", "Chant", and "Rising"). Featuring her regular quartet of Radomir Milojkovic (guitar), Uros Stamenkovic (drums), and Gina Schwarz (bass), the music on Elevation is pure sound, soul and spirit!

GOLDEN DISKO SHIP Araceae LP
LP version. Includes download code; edition of 300. Theresa Stroetges has and always will be a traveler. Under the name Golden Diskó Ship or as a member of bands like Soft Grid or the improv collective Epiphany Now!, the Berlin-based multi-instrumentalist has continuously been moving through the fringes of experimental music, but also extensively explored the possibilities of tried and tested formulas -- whether folk, rock, techno, or pop. With her fourth solo album, her first for the Karaoke Kalk label, the Golden Diskó Ship is yet again venturing into unknown territory. Araceae is inspired by environmental changes and the eerie feelings that arise when faced with natural beauty -- when everything seems perfect on the surface but something feels off underneath it all. As a whole, it is notably more focused on electronic grooves that provide the foundation for Stroetges's poetic long-form storytelling. Partially conceived during a residency in India, Araceae is the first Golden Diskó Ship record to feature two guest musicians. For "Wildly Floral, Slightly Damp", Stroetges collaborated with percussionist Dripta Samajder who with his Sri Khol contributes complex rhythms to a driving beat that wouldn't be out of place in the record bags of daring DJs. Sophia Trollmann takes over saxophone duties for "Ortolan", a riveting coming-together of intricate, IDM-flavored techno and jazz-inspired improvisation. Both are integral standout tracks on an album that clearly follows a holistic plan. Already the opener "Clouds of Neon Limelight" dips into anthemic synth pop territory, but unfolds into a great saga full of ominous undertones and Stroetges's trademark: layered vocals that at once evoke feelings of uncanniness and intimacy. It's a juxtaposition that runs throughout Araceae, thus enforcing the album's overall themes of sensual experience and alienation. "Game of Biryani" for example lends some of its musical structures from pop music, calling into question traditional songwriting conventions which here reappear as irritating echo effects rather than recycled old tropes. With the lush "Limping Over The Prairies" and the adventurous "Glow-in-the-Dark Gloves", Stroetges further challenges her audience by applying noise and a heavy dose of autotune respectively to disorientating effect. The couple makes for an impressive finale of an album that scrutinizes our ideas of what is natural -- whether in music or the world around us. Araceae was inspired by the travels of its creator, but also sets out to ascertain what lies beyond everything that eyes or ears can perceive.

IELASI, GIUSEPPE Aix LP
Aix is an outstanding piece of work by Italian electro-acoustic savant Giuseppe Ielasi, originally released in 2009 on Taylor Deupree's 12k label. The follow-up to 2007's August (12k) and Ielasi's first collaboration with Nicola Ratti as Bellows, also out in 2007 (Kning Disk). Originally only released on CD (12k), the album got a very limited vinyl issue on Czech label Minority Records in 2010. Keplar presents this extraordinary and timeless collection of nine evocative minimalist soundscapes on vinyl again after ten years. For more than 20 years, Giuseppe Ielasi has been releasing his recordings on labels like Erstwhile Records, Häpna, Kning Disk, Dekorder, 12k, Entr'acte. or Editions Mego, as well as on his own label Senufo Editions. The label Keplar has been on a long hiatus and is now back with its KeplarRev series presenting vinyl re-issues of essential electronic albums from the '90s and '00s, as well as new recordings by momentous electronic and ambient artists. Includes download code; Edition of 500.From the original press release in 2009: "With Aix we see Ielasi building his layered, atmospheric music around rhythmic grids. Most of the time these are quite irregular and the pulses are not necessarily stable or clear. Where his previous work approached sound in a linear fashion Aix imposes a strong vertical development with the aforementioned grid and a production consisting of ons and offs, employing as much improvisation as Ielasi's previous work, but in a different way. Despite the self-imposed grid structure, Aix relies heavily on randomization. Not in the traditional sense of sound placement but instead of the spatialization of sounds, echoes, reverbs, and the stereo image. As a result, Aix has an amazing sense and clarity of space as the small fragments of sound breathe and find their own place in the mix, thanks to Ielasi's sublime skills as a mixer and engineer. Ielasi relied heavily on numerous short samples and combining them in ways that fell into his groove; some found from others' recordings and many more recorded during the past year. We hear fragments of percussive (acoustic) objects, drums, piano, trumpet, guitar, and, of course, synthetic textures. Although there is a distinct rhythmic pulse to Aix, Ielasi manages to mold it into something wonderfully languid and warm... and strangely inviting." Composed and recorded by Giuseppe Ielasi in Aix-en-Provence, Autumn 2008. Remaster by Giuseppe Ielasi. Cover photograph "Construction, Barcelona" by Taylor Deupree. ARMANI/MUSIK AUS STROM, ROBERT LF RMX 023 12"
More unheard edits from Len Faki's personal vaults on this release, harking way back to the mid-90s and their relentless, hard-hitting styles. Chicago legend Robert Armani, also still hailed as one of the originators of hardstyle by many, makes an appearance on the A-side. And it's that characteristic, punishing kick sound, which is still present in the modern edit, carrying on the original's obtuse force albeit shrouded in a much more ominous and austere veil. German IDM-duo Funkstörung well left their mark on the millennium's last decade. Even with their side-project Musik Aus Strom that restricted itself to a series of forward-pointing, no-nonsense acid techno albums. Len Faki picks out a track showcasing the raw and vital essence of that Acid Planet time and molds it into a soaring, sizzling and well-balanced tool, tricky and perky at once.

JOBIM, ANTONIO CARLOS Wave LP+CD
2020 repress. By the time this album was released, Antonio Carlos Jobim was already an international superstar. Having recently won a Grammy (1965) for "The Girl From Ipanema", by 1967 all the big name stars from up north were breaking down his door to work with the new "Gershwin of Brazil." In fact, Jobim had just finished working on an album with Frank Sinatra when he went into the studio to record this album. Recorded in 1967, Wave is actually one of the lesser known masterpieces of Brazilian music, and undoubtedly one of Jobim's greatest. Here Jobim and the great Claus Ogerman lead a top-flight cast on hidden classics like Batidinha, Triste and Wave.

BLANCMANGE Living On The Ceiling (Roman Flugel Remixes) 12"
"When I was asked to put my hands on the original tracks of Blancmange I was instantly excited. They were one of my favorite bands when I grew up as a teenager in the '80s. Listening to their music walking around with my Walkman back then was adventurous. Mainly because I was already in love with the aesthetics of synthesizers and drum machines. But also because it was unusual pop music with an extraordinary energy that made it in the charts. Remixing a favorite band is challenging but I've tried to keep the free spirits and playfulness in my mix that makes Blancmange still so special after all these years." --Roman Flügel Roman Flügel remixes the cult 1980s classic that is "Living On The Ceiling", and the result is a killer, off-kilter slice of club-focused machine funk that contains the same wonderfully bizarre cocktail of traits, that Blancmange always boasted in spades. Eerie and schizophrenic but also both bright and triumphant. Also features the original and sought after extended mix. The first in a new series of "London Records Remixed" releases on 12". Now at its new home as part of the Because Music Group the London Records catalogue is being revisited by pioneering, contemporary electronic producers.

BLANCMANGE Blind Vision (Honey Dijon Remixes) 12"
Honey Dijon was asked the remix her "favorite band" Blancmange and choose the magnificent disco oddity, 1983 hit "Blind Vision". The result is a stripped-back, bumping houser that sounds as much Green Velvet as it does Talking Heads. Urgent percussion and oscillating synths drive things forward, allowing a full Blancmange vocal to unfold aloft to great effect. Also features the original and sought after extended mix. The first in a new series of "London Records Remixed" releases on 12". Now at its new home as part of the Because Music Group the London Records catalogue is being revisited by pioneering, contemporary electronic producers.

EVVOL The Power LP
Berlin based duo Evvol release their second album The Power on their own imprint, Mad Dog & Love. A meditation on love, the intimate and personal offering is a product of turning their thoughts inward after time spent considering the state of the world and politics over the last year. "It's about all relationships, including but not limited to our own," they explain, "and it details the intimate powers that bind us together." Looking at the fragility of human existence and the importance of emotional release, The Power begins with beautiful and slow-building ballad "Help Myself," and is followed by the more playful "It's OK." "Sonically we wanted to switch things up. Previously we were focused on an analog studio sound, and for this album we flipped it completely." Choosing to record the vocals in their Kreuzberg home-studio and investing in a top microphone and pre-amp meant they could experiment much more. From the lusty first encounters of "Speedboat" to the beautiful banalities of long- term partnership in "Old Love," the intimacy and personal subject matter were best captured in a domestic environment. "It allowed us to really let down our barriers. Tracks like "Call & Response" were recorded in one emotional take, and we honored the rawness of that performance in the production process." As always, percussion, groove and rhythmic tendencies are exploited in a number of different moods throughout, whether it be the '90s inspired "War," or the pop- house sounds of "The Power." The band's signature warm analog sound is maintained throughout, the lighter shades offset by equally present winter melancholy of tracks such as "Video Tape" and "The Well." "It was really important to us to create a special and beautiful body of work," they say, "and in today's climate of Spotify and playlists it can be easy to follow trends and forget about artistry." With hard-craft and ambition aside, The Power is essentially an introspective mantra about love and intimacy, and at a time of universal unrest, it feels refreshing and vital.

ZELIENOPLE Hold You Up LP
Restocked. For their first album since 2015, Zelienople turns on the current time with a record of low-key decaying songs wrapped in hypnotic, driving rhythms. The Chicago-based trio is back with a stunner of an underground pop album. Their most reverb heavy bombast is gone in favor of pure Earth-bound intimate tunes that feel like they summon the spirit of the late Mark Hollis. Shrouded tribal percussion and rippling vocals are at the forefront, while looped atmospheres echo in the distance. Since the release of their last album, vocalist Matt Christensen has been known for pouring his soul out in countless Bandcamp releases of singer/songwriter, experimental, and ambient offerings. It's hard to keep up with him, but one can't but to admire the dedication and extremely high-quality of it all. Mike Weis on the other hand is less prolific, but has become a focused student of Korean Shaman and Buddhist music, often performing in Zen-based percussive rituals when he's not involved in side projects of improvisational music. Brian Harding is perhaps the most anonymous of the three, yet he is the steady, grounding element on bass that keeps them as one. Together, they create a beautifully realized own voice that feels especially close on their new album. Hold You Up is like a slow walk through a withering world, though one with a sense of refuge. This is music with heart -- navigating darkness through light. Includes download code; Edition of 400.

SCRUFFS, THE Teenage Tragedies 1974-1979 LP
Hailing from Memphis, Tennessee, The Scruffs are best known for their classic power-pop LP Wanna Meet The Scruffs? issued in 1977. They started to record a follow-up album with John Fry at Ardent Studios, supposedly entitled "Teenage Gurls". In 1978, due to interest from Warner Bros. in New York City, the band moved to the Big Apple, playing at CBGB and Max's Kansas City. One year later, leader Stephen Burns returned to Memphis to finish the recordings which survived for years in his archives. They eventually resurfaced only on CD, in 1998 on Burns' private label Northern Heights and in 2003 on Rev'Ola. Die-hard popsters regard some of these songs as their strongest material with the best ones being compiled here on side one. Flashback: in 1974, the same year of Big Star's Radio City LP release and Chris Bell solo recording sessions, producer Jim Dickinson heard the Scruffs' early stages and their pre-Wanna Meet material and expected the band to be the next big thing. Only heard on CD on Northern Heights in 1998, the best tracks from this stunning collection, recorded in the same Shoe Studio where Chris Bell immortalized the track "I Am The Cosmos" basically at the same time, are compiled here on side two. Mixed and remastered by Adam Hill and Stephen Burns at Ardent Studio.

FEDERAL DUCK Federal Duck LP
Munster Records presents a reissue of Federal Duck's self-titled album, originally released in 1968. It would be difficult to overlook the eye-catching colorful cover, designed by Abe Gurvin, who was also responsible for the very appealing artwork on Tito Rodriguez and Gene Pitney's releases on the New York-based Musicor label. However, this self-titled LP was soon forgotten after not having any singles released as promotional support to the album and also, maybe, due to the complete absence of covers in the track list. Federal Duck was one of many college bands to pop up during the psychedelic years. It consisted of Tony Shaftel (vocals, bass), Jack Bowers (guitar), George Stavis (guitar, vocals, and songwriting), Huck White (guitar, French horn), Ken Stover (keyboards, tuba), Bob Stern (bass, vocals), and Timmy Ackerman (drums, percussion). They met at Haverford College, just outside Philadelphia, and working under other names (Stomp Jackson Quintet and The Guides) the band members came up with a new name one night when they were lying on the bank of the campus duck pond and some ducks started waddling toward them in what looked like a purposeful and menacing way, as if they were working for the government -- or so they thought. They played many gigs over the four years of the band's short life and made a name for themselves as skilled musicians who would be able to play all night long if required. The album was recorded at Groove Sound Studios, NYC, in 1968 and included a number of quality tracks, mixing elements of jazz, country, and soft-psychedelia. "Tomorrow Waits For Today" stands out as a wonderful piece of jazzy pop-psych that easilya rival the best recordings of the genre. But some will find "Bird" the most accomplished song on the album, featuring fierce guitars and energetic drums, bordering on hard psych, that eventually lead into a long jazzy piano solo in the middle of the 5+ minute song. "While You're Away" keeps similarly high levels of energy, echoing harmonies reminiscent of bands like The Byrds. But it is the soft psych approach as on tracks like "Friday Morning" or "Dawn Comes Slow" that best describe the overall sound of the album. "Circus In The Sea," the closing track, successfully mixes a varied combination of sounds and deserved to have made a bigger splash when originally released. Federal Duck is reissued here on vinyl for the first time, with facsimile artwork and 180g vinyl pressing.

PANIAGUA, GREGORIO Batiscafo LP
Munster Records presents a reissue of Batiscafo by Gregorio Paniagua. Immersed in an age of re-releases and the pursuit of rarities, hidden gems and marvels, record labels are constantly rediscovering musical jewels, which previously only collectors have had the chance to own. Batiscafo is one of these elusive treasures. First released in 1980 on the label Hispavox, the album disappeared after a short run and no further editions in any format have been available until now, in spite of the huge level of interest shown by fans to get their hands on a vinyl record in mint condition by this outstanding musical oddity made in Spain. Paniagua is a classically trained musician and scholar of music with an extensive and fruitful history of researching, recording and rediscovering ancient music, varying from Las Cantigas de Santa María del Rey Alfonso X El Sabio (which earned him a gold record in Japan), to Andalusían music from Spain's past or compositions from ancient Greece, as well as playing with the vocal and instrumental ensemble Atrium Musicae, which toured across the world to great critical acclaim. In 1980, Paniagua embarked on a solo project, moving from the classical to the pop department at Hispavox. He shut himself off from the world every night for a whole month to record Batiscafo. Assisted solely by a sound technician at the controls of the latest mixing desk, his instruments and brilliant inventiveness, he managed to create this gem, a record that seeks to emulate Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells (1973) and which vanished all too soon, becoming the Holy Grail of Spanish experimental music. Batiscafo anticipated a wave of avant-garde Spanish music in the '80s with key figures such as Suso Sáiz, Pep Llopis, Ishinoana, or Finis Africae, who are now being rediscovered and admired outside Spain. It is a highly original and imaginative record that continues to surprise listeners forty years on, with its bold combination of early electronic music, classicism, experimentation and psychedelia. It's a masterpiece that endures the test of time. Remastered from the original tapes, includes facsimile artwork and liner notes, on 180 gram vinyl.

HAIGH, ROBERT Darkling Streams CD
2020 repress. Robert Haigh is a veteran of UK underground music from the early '80s onwards. In the '80s he worked on seminal Nurse With Wound albums and released a series of darkly ambient albums and EPs under the name Sema. The '90s saw Haigh experimenting with atmospheric textures and sequenced rhythms under the name Omni Trio. From the mid-naughties onwards, Haigh has returned to his love of minimal piano counterpoint with releases on Seal Pool, Crouton, Siren, and now Primary Numbers. Darkling Streams is the anticipated follow-up to the acclaimed trio of piano albums released on Siren Records between 2009 and 2011. Taking up where the Siren trilogy left off, Darkling Streams is a collection of piano miniatures with occasional wisps of shimmering electronic texture. As with the Siren albums, the pieces are intimate, atmospheric, hauntingly melodic, and introspective. Shades of Satie, Harold Budd, Arvo Pärt, Philip Glass, and Ryuichi Sakamoto can be detected in these works but never to the extent of overshadowing Haigh's distinctive expression and harmonic preoccupations. This current set stands apart, however, with the inclusion of a handful of extended pieces. Tracks such as "Fugue State," "Of Eros and Dust," and "Rain for Avalon" have an epic and darkly cinematic quality not heard on previous albums.

VA Refraction Volume 5 12"
Titonton Duvante's long and more than essential Residual Recordings clocks up a fantastic 25th release in the form of a fifth volume of the famous Refraction series. This one draws on another masterful mix of names including Nachtbraker, Christopher Rau, Titonton himself, as well as a rare killer outing from veteran S-Max. Reaching a milestone in style... Nachtbraker opens the EP with a swirling house cut that is riddled with FM bass, twinkling keys and balmy pads that reach for the heavens. Christopher Rau goes for a more raved up house cut with feel good energy chords but a nice deep bassline and pensive synths on his Give It. Titonton does as he does best -- keeps it deep, loopy yet driven, with a slick tech cut that is dubbed out and perfectly atmospheric as well as being hugely infectious. Last of all, S-Max comes correct with the slick boom bap of his stripped back house roller "Lil' Lightyear Wants to Ride", with its dreamy pads and sci-fi feels. Residual is by now, and for many years been a key label for lovers of tasteful house, as this latest collection proves they are showing no signs of slowing down.

LEE, OKKYUNG Yeo-Neun LP
Springing from body of work spanning decades, defined by a rigorously singular and adventurous approach to sound, cellist, composer, and improvisor, Okkyung Lee, returns with Yeo-Neun. Her first outing with Shelter Press, and arguably her most ground-breaking and unexpected album to date. A vital force in the contemporary global landscape of experimental music, Okkyung Lee is widely regarded for her solo and collaborative improvisations and compositions, weaving a continuously evolving network of sonority and event, notable for its profound depth of instrumental sensitivity, exacting intellect, and visceral emotiveness. Yeo-Neun, recorded by Yeo-Neun Quartet -- an experimental chamber music ensemble founded in 2106 and led by Lee on cello, featuring harpist Maeve Gilchrist, pianist Jacob Sacks, and bassist Eivynd Opsvik -- represents the culmination of one of longest and most intimate arcs in her remarkable career. A radical departure from much of the experimental language for which she has become widely known, it is equally a fearless return. Yeo-Neun loosely translates to the gesture of an opening in Korean, presenting a window into the poetic multiplicity that rests at the album's core. Balanced at the outer reaches of Lee's radically forward-thinking creative process, its ten discrete works are born of the ambient displacement of musician's life; intimate melodic constructions and deconstructions that traces their roots across the last 30 years, from her early days spent away from home studying the cello in Seoul and Boston, to her subsequent move to New York and the nomadism of a near endless routine of tours. At its foundation, lay glimpses of a once melancholic teen, traces of the sentimentality and sensitivity (?? / Gahmsung) that underpins the Korean popular music of Lee's youth, and an artist for whom the notions of time, place, and home have become increasingly complex. Elegantly binding modern classical composition and freely improvised music with the emotive drama of Korean traditional music and popular ballads, the expanse of Yeo-Neun pushes toward the palpably unknown, as radical for what it is and does, as it for its approachability. Meandering melodies, from the deceptively simple to the tonally and structurally complex, slowly evolve and fall from view, the harp, piano, and bass forming an airy, liminal non-place, through which Lee's cello and unplaceable memories freely drift. Printed inner and outer sleeve with artwork by American photographer Ron Jude. Mastered and cut by Rashad Becker.

SCOTT, TOM JAMES Mine is the Heron LP
Mine is the Heron is the new Tom James Scott record, the first document of his solo work since 2017. Over the past decade, the UK-based composer has released a diverse body of recordings via labels such as Bo'Weavil, Carnivals, Where To Now?, and his own impeccably curated Skire imprint. This album finds Scott in half-remembered, sanguine moods, some of which are likely to remind listeners of his collaborative work with Andrew Chalk. Fragile acoustic piano runs are meted out with painterly finger strokes, buoyed by subtle, idiosyncratic FM sound design, chimes, and guitar. Culled from recordings composed and put to tape over the past several years, the collection has the feel of a poet's selected works, or perhaps more appropriately, a compendium of letters -- exquisite vignettes that feel simultaneously private and important to disseminate into world. The hermetic nature of this quietly stunning music is evocative of abandoned shingle beaches and misty marshes, and of the Virginia Woolf novel from which the album takes its title: "Mine is the heron that stretches its vast wings lazily; and the cow that creaks as it pushes one foot before another munching; and the wild, swooping swallow; and the faint red in the sky, and the green when the red fades; the silence and the bell; the call of the man fetching cart-horses from the fields -- all are mine." Recorded by Tom James Scott on Walney Island, 2016-2019. Mastered by Kassian Troyer at Dubplates & Mastering.

BOMAN, AXEL Eyes Of My Mind 12"
Axel Boman's new single "Eyes Of My Mind" is a big-room-unifying psychedelic house music anthem and a multidisciplinary, collaborative Gesamtkunstwerk all at once. As so often the case with Boman's home label, Studio Barnhus, the process leading up to this release happened organically, among friends. Axel's initial sketch (produced during sessions at Future Classic Studios in Los Angeles) was sent to his good friend and long-time Studio Barnhus associate Malin Gabriella Nordin, who found herself obsessed with the track's steady-fast rhythms, gently flowing melodies and mind-expanding message. The Stockholm-based visual artist put the song on loop, started drawing to the sounds and didn't quit until 455 individual drawings lay before her. These drawings have been animated to create the video for "Eyes Of Our Mind" and will be exhibited at Stockholm gallery Steinsland Berliner during April 2020.

DUCHOW, AMELIE Tonstich LP
Tonstich is a project based on the creation of a sonorous dress; an audio/video project which explores through sound and images the creative/industrial process of an imaginary dress. In Tonstich, basic sound parameters -- attack, decay, sustain, release -- are directly related to the dress construction parameters X and Y (length and width). The characteristics of the shape, fit and look of this imaginary dress are determined by the audio composition, following the strict manufacturing schedule of each production unit, the dress is initially modelled by the industrial production process yet continuously modified by the listener's individual sonorous experience The audio material used for the composition of Tonstich is based on the authentic sound recorded in industrial manufacturing facilities of garments and textiles. Single noise patterns from the Bartack machine mixed with the humming of the two needle machine weave in combination with electronic structures a fit sound fabric. Tonstich develops in eight tracks, which correspond to each construction and manufacturing step leading to the unusual dress proposed by Amelie Duchow. Transparent vinyl.

OLSON, GARY Gary Olson CD
This album is a tale of two cities, or rather, two studios; one in Hayland, Norway and the other in Flatbush, Brooklyn and two brothers who came up with the idea making a record with indie rock wizard Gary Olson which now links the two locations. Gary Olson is the lead singer, main songwriter, and plays trumpet with the band Ladybug Transistor who have released five albums on Merge Records. He is also producer and engineer at Marlborough Farms studio deep in the heart of Flatbush Brooklyn. On the Norwegian side Ole Johannes Åleskjær has his studio, Tune-J in the bucolic countryside outside Oslo. He and his brother Jorn Åleskjær met Gary many years ago when their band Loch Ness Mouse crossed paths with Ladybug Transistor on tour. At one of these chance meetings Ole put forward the idea of a writing and recording collaboration between himself, his brother Jorn and Gary with the recording done both in Norway and Brooklyn. Over a period of eight years Gary would visit the Åleskjær brother's barn studio in its idyllic setting near the Swedish border and do basic tracks on whatever songs the three had written. Gary would then take the recordings back to Brooklyn where he would add vocals, horns, and strings at his studio. The recordings would then return to Norway for producer Ole to finish the tracks. By the end of 2019 this set of eleven songs had naturally blossomed into an album. With Ole producing and playing guitar and Gary doing vocals and trumpet the album personnel was rounded out by Håvard Krogedal (bass, cello) and Emil Nikolaisen (drums) both from Serena-Maneesh; Joe McGinty (string arrangements, piano, organ) from The Psychedelic Furs, Ryan Adams, and Suzanne Nienaber on backing vocals (Pale Lights). Although the initial idea was to do simple recordings Ladybug Transistor fans will no doubt be pleased to find Gary's signature exultant trumpet sound, the luscious strings, and gorgeous pop hooks so favored by that band present in plenty on this album. The melodies are at once both delicate and strongly memorable and the lustrous production gives a sheen reminiscent of the best '70s commercial radio and '80s indie pop. Fittingly the album cover photo depicts Gary on a decommissioned airfield in New York that is now a national park. There's a dreamy, overwhelming vastness on the old runway that was built in the 1920s.

DRIFT. Symbiosis CD
Drift. is the project of London based artist Nathalie Bruno. Starting in 2015, her debut EP Black Devotion was released on the Italian label Avant! Records. After playing a range of diverse shows in UK and Europe and the release of the second EP, Genderland in 2017, she locked herself in her East London studio to assimilate a new set of influences that synthesized in what became Symbiosis, her first full-length record. "The seed for Symbiosis was sewn after having picked up a book from a charity shop by chance in Finsbury Park, The Fourth Industrial Revolution by Klaus Schwab. It really struck a chord inside and brought on a deep exploration of myself and the world I was seeing form around me. As a form of therapy, I set myself the target of finishing an album by the end of the year, I didn't know what or how but I knew I didn't want it to be compiled of 'singles' and had envisioned songs weaving together, forming a subtle message as a whole yet to not be a 'concept album' as such. I was attracted to sounds, in any form; classical music, '70s electronic pioneers like Harmonia, Cluster, Faust, New York's tape experimentalists, the avant-pop landscapes of Chris & Cosey to John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Kate Bush, and Broadcast: all resonated with me a greatly whilst I devoured any form of literature or films that came my way by suggestion or by chance and stored every word and every image in a little box somewhere up there. I let it come out in its own time by revisiting old songs I had recorded over the years, until I started molding new sounds from old ones, cut ups of synth jams done alone, field recordings from my phone to use as samples -- Eventually it was all starting to make sense. The name itself came to me from reading a book of William Burroughs. The word 'symbiosis' had never been in my vocabulary before, which is strange now as it's a word that pops up all the time. It represented a whole variety of interpretations, from the content in each song, to the process of finishing the record, to how I felt in general and towards the world. The cover-artwork which is a masterpiece in my opinion, was done by Jack Smith."

NELSON OF THE EAST Kybele LP
Embarking on a journey from Italy to Anatolia and from Africa to the Americas, Nelson Of The East soars over imagined landscapes in his debut, motion picture-inspired album, Kybele. Plug in your headphones, drown out the world, and set out on a mystic voyage of Earth through the lens of Kybele, the Anatolian goddess of wild nature. With the world in flux and isolation taking its toll, musical escapism has become a much-needed pastime for today's armchair adventurers. Skillfully weaving the sounds of East and West, the nine-track LP fuses Turkish and cosmic influences with a strong electronic backbone into an otherworldly soundtrack of our time. Named Kybele after the Anatolian goddess of nature, fertility, mountains, and wild animals, the record is a continuous saga that takes from the Berlin-based artist's own adventurous spirit. Following his previous EP releases Night Frames (2018) and Phase Alternating Lines (2019), Nelson explores new territories on Kybele. Album opener, "Explorer," is an exhilarating build up to what could be an '80s sci-fi movie, showcasing Nelson's knack for cinematic moods. "Draw Me," speaks to the artist's intention of making a "snare album," with an irregular, dominating beat untethering it from time or boundaries. "What I realize while I was writing the rhythm part is that the more you keep a beat simple the more difficult it becomes to make it interesting," says Nicolas. Another thing Nelson achieves in this album is ambience, or the "motion picture touch" as he calls it. Tracks like the wild and obscure "Culto", with its Anatolian nuances and Middle Eastern-sounding scales are made by layering synths to achieve an orchestral effect. Other tracks capture the musician's penchant for African and Brazilian grooves, like the Saudade mix of "Burning Palm". On the B side, the Italo-flavored "Phase Lines" comes through with shimmering synth and electronic drums complete with hazy vocals delivered by DJ Rayne and Nelson himself. "Yahuda" dives into dark, melancholic electro with a Detroit feel not far from the sounds of the great Drexciya. The album closes with "ZETA", a track that could easily double as an obscure cinematic composition. Artwork by The Emperor of Antarctica. 180 gram vinyl; edition of 300.

PARADISE PHANTOMS Mirage PIC. DISC
When one thinks about a Mirage, the first thought that likely comes to mind is the illusion of a well-hydrated paradise in the middle of a hot, arid desert. If you could spin that illusion into a full-on fantasy, a 32-bit utopia with a neon soundtrack, you would have the Mirage presented to you by Marcos Miranda and Ivan Redondo, collectively known as Paradise Phantoms. In musical form, Mirage is deceptively eclectic -- a collection of pulsating dance cuts with a pastel glow, rooted in retro funk, but cleverly spiked with rock and streamlined with pop. The result is a project with equal appeal for classic boogie funk fiends and contemporary dance music enthusiasts alike -- Mirage could hit hard in Ibiza, yet sounds like it was purified in the waters of Lake Minnetonka. Indeed, one of the album's standout cuts declares with no uncertainty that "Prince Was Right". Up-tempo drum machine hits collide with icy FM synths and slick bass grooves as if the year was 1988. Yet, the dynamic arrangements and modern production values remind us that this is brand new music -- the type that sounds as if its creators never forgot a childhood spent playing Sega Genesis in a room lined with NPG & Max Headroom posters. Mirage is also available in a vinyl LP package perfectly suited to the aural treats within. Limited edition picture disc.

SIN2 Where I'm From LP
Many of the funk fanatics on the street dance scene already know the name Sin2. As a talkboxer and producer, he introduced himself in 2007 with "The Gypsy and his Talkbox". While he has been spotted in collaboration with a bevy of European funksters, a follow up to Sin2's debut was nowhere to be found, until now. Entitled Where I'm From, the album's straightforward name actually belies a deeper musical meditation. Sin2 does, in fact, show us exactly where he's from as far as his production and overall range. The album runs the gamut from Impala-ready g-funk on tunes such as "Mellow Hustle", "Quantum Realm Remix" featuring Bybo, "On The Autobahn", and "It's LBC", a joint venture with Long Beach legends Foesum, to dancefloor-friendly boogie funk in the form of "Innocent". The record becomes even more adventurous when Funkmaster Ozone joins in to deliver a vocoder-inflected slice of hard electro on "You Need To Dance". There's more than enough material on "Where I'm From" to fuel a dance session (or ten), yet Sin2 doesn't hesitate to slow things down on the tracks "Wide Open" featuring Imaa" and "Baby Girl" featuring Bybo, two electric g-funk slow jams better suited for the bedroom than the backyard boogie. Sin2's approach to talkboxing stands out from many of his peers as he always manages to give equal space to it and all other instruments in play. The result is that his talkbox texture doesn't overshadow the rest of the music, gliding over his synths and rhythms rather than overshine them as some talkboxers tend to do, making for a consistent listen, and making you wish that he had followed up his debut album many years ago already. Also features Aaron & Moe Dee. Edition of 300.

SUN CITY GIRLS Live at the Sky Church - September 3rd, 2004 LP/DVD
The first new Sun City Girls release since Funeral Mariachi (2010), Live at the Sky Church is a performance that melds their signature alien-jazz improv, Asian-tinged psychedelia, and Middle Eastern meditations together with their ranting psychodrama. An audio and visual recording from Seattle in 2004 shows a group that is both aware and committed to its history, while still demonstrating the power of the experimental to drive an enormous cudgel through the heart of those who believe to have all the answers. Twenty One Eighty Two Recording Company has had a long history with Sun City Girls, most of which, the Girls were unaware of. While the label were not at the show, their attempt to help continue to put a part of Arizona's musical history in the appropriate context convinced the Girls that a bunch of subversives from a town no one admits to being from to be the right people to put this document into the world. Society rarely documents the things that matter, and the label hope to change that with this release. It is a document that now stands to the interplay between three friends before that history would be sunset way before its time. As the recording begins, you already realize the experience will be too short, but what the fuck are you supposed to do but celebrate that it happened. The Girls came from Phoenix, Arizona, but now have traveled the world exploring sound, documenting travel, and attempting to be the emissaries that should represent these union of states. Live at the Sky Church illustrates this history and attempts to provide a manifesto without dictating the experience. Will you listen? Includes DVD. MALONE, YVES The Beginning of Nothing Cassette
In just a few years and with a handful of releases, the Canadian producer better known as Yves Malone has earned himself a reputation. In The Beginning of Nothing he continues working with many layers of analog synths and a keen sense of drum machines to create atmospheres and textures extracted from late twentieth-century collective fears of a dystopian future. Created as a sort of score to an internal elegy, Yves Malone creates soundtracks of the daily fear, regret, and resignation that is his waking life, an effort to isolate and negate this anxiety, which is a constant and unwanted companion. Sequenced on mostly working vintage gear, The Beginning of Nothing tries to extricate a bit of beauty from a rapidly darkening landscape. Includes download code; edition of 100.

Tropical Syndroms is the second album by Thé Déluge, aka Vincent Caylet, also known as Cankun (Not Not Fun, Hands in the Dark). Like his debut album Forest Structures (Umor Rex, 2017), this new installment is an amalgam of sounds generated through multiple devices and analog synthesizers, loops and layers creating an incredible mix of textures, sounds that can almost be touched. In Caylet's work, there is always a certain familiarity in the tones, there is an implicit nature present, an ancient ecosystem that evokes somewhat ghostly landscapes, intrinsically friendly, subtle and sweet, concrete and sharp. Tropical Syndroms is one piece lasting almost 38 minutes, a cinematic trip inspired by Asian films. One single piece with many different atmospheres, but with one unified idea leading to a melancholic statement. Includes download code; edition of 100.

Matthewdavid is a co-founder of the Los Angeles label Leaving Records, and a collaborator of Flying Lotus, Sun Araw, Julia Holter, Laraaji, Odd Nosdam, among others. Experimental Bliss is his first album on Umor Rex, two long pieces devoted to the bliss of experimental music creation. This is unconventional music, aiming to assist the listener in attaining a state of bliss or relaxation. It incorporates obvious artifacts of compressed noise and texture with harmonic tonal elements. The creative process is always evolving and changing, often relying on digital music software and hardware technology to process and re-sample collected "organic" sounds from analog or environmental sources. Side A, "Lo-Fi Bliss Music", was recorded and performed live at the Leaving Records modern new age night event, using dynamic compression experiments with a processed and looped Critter & Guitari pocket piano, and ocean sounds samples from a cassette. "Dynamic Rhythmicals" was recorded live at home, using digital marimba samples. Includes download code; edition of 100.

VA Guasa, Cununo Y Marimba: Afro-Colombian Music From The Pacific Coast 2LP
Compiled by Colombian music experts Lucas Silva and Philippe Noel, Guasa, Cununo Y Marimba: Afro-Colombian Music From The Pacific Coast is a selection of Afro-Colombian music from the Pacific Coast. The Colombian Pacific coast has always been one of the most forgotten regions of Colombia: ninety percent of the population are of African descent and ten percent are indigenous peoples and mestizos. It borders Panama to the north and Ecuador to the south. It was colonized late, after several failed attempts by the Spanish who were thwarted by the impenetrable jungle and climate of the territory. Two or three centuries of slavery filled the Pacific coast with men and women who brought their musical instruments with them. In the department of Chocó in the north Pacific, African descendants reinterpreted the military drums brought in by the colonizers, creating the chirimía style. The Pacific coast is home to a wealth of musical styles: apart from the currulao and chirimía, there's a host of other genres. Meanwhile, in the city of Buenaventura, the urban center of the Pacific and the biggest port in Colombia, orchestras and bands flourished. For music from the Pacific there was a long and winding road to go down before it emerged from anonymity in a country dominated by cumbia and Caribbean beats. The music of the Colombian Pacific is one of the greatest treasures of Colombia and its African past, but not many people remember the songs recorded on anthologies, a forgotten chapter of Colombia´s musical history. This album aims to revisit these formats and recording styles so that new generations of musicians can reconnect with this heritage and these wonderful musical gems can see the light at last, as they are immortal aspects of Afro-Colombia and its culture. This compilation includes recordings by artists like: Gertrudis Bonilla, Peregoyo y su Combo Vacaná, Markitos Micolta, La Sonora del Pacífico de Cachito Vidal, Julián y Su Combo, and more in an outstanding selection of songs that covers the early '70s through the '00s. Heavy drumming combines with hypnotic vocals and the sounds of the marimba, clarinet and euphonium in this selection of Afro-Colombian music from the Pacific Coast. Also features: Gertrudis Bonilla Y Jimmy Puche, Chencho Trompeta Y Los Brujos Del Folklore, La Marucha, Los Trovadores Del Pacífico, La Contundencia, La Banda De Alexis, Conjunto Folklórico Los De La Bahía De La Cruz, Buscajá, and Bambazulú.

VALLE, MARCOS Marcos Valle LP
Vampisoul present a reissue of Marcos Valle's 1983 self-titled album. Valle is one of the few artists one cannot miss if one has the slightest interest in Brazilian music. Whether one's taste is focused on bossa jazz, samba, psych folk or soul, Valle has surely recorded an album to match. By the late '60s he had already put out enough quality records to secure a place within the top Brazilian songwriters of all time, but his career did not stop there and he continued releasing amazing music over the following decades. He settled in Los Angeles in the mid-70s, tired of living under Brazil's military dictatorship, and started to collaborate with such talented artists as Leon Ware and Chicago. This LP from 1983 is the follow-up to the great Vontade De Rever Você (1981), his second album after moving back to Brazil. It shows all the music influences from his US years, especially boogie, soul and funk, and features stellar collaborators in Lincoln Olivetti, Robson Jorge, and Leon Ware. The opening track, the Brazilian boogie anthem "Estrelar," is Valle's biggest hit from the '80s and one of the most celebrated songs, making clear that what he accomplished while in LA would now make its way into Brazil. Valle pictures a beach lifestyle and summertime vibe across the entire album that describes his surfing days in Southern California. A couple of early Valle's classic songs are updated here to sit nicely next to soaring disco, killer vocal boogie numbers, and blissing instrumentals, making a well-balanced track list that satisfies both listening pleasure and dancefloor needs. This is an essential album for lovers of the work of Ware, who is the co-writer of three songs in the LP, including "Estrelar," first drafted when both artists were working together in the States and then recorded again when Valle returned to Brazil. Presented in facsimile artwork and pressed on 180g vinyl.

HAMASE, MOTOHIKO #Notes of Forestry CD
WRWTFWW Records present the official reissue of Motohiko Hamase's remarkable ambient/environmental/minimalism project #Notes of Forestry, available for the first time since its original release in 1988. The album is sourced from original masters and available on vinyl and CD with liner notes from the artist. This marks the third release from the Esplanade Series which focuses on the works of Yoshio Ojima, Motohiko Hamase, and Satsuki Shibano. One of the most fascinating and peculiar works from the golden era of Japanese ambient, #Notes of Forestry was initially released in 1988 by Newsic, the cult label started by Tokyo's Wacoal Art Center (also known as Spiral), home, notably, of Yoshio Ojima who co-produced the album. Conceived by jazz bassist turned experimentalist Motohiko Hamase, the magnum opus offers an enchanting mix of free-form pastoral electronics, otherworldly percussions by Yasunori Yamaguchi, and delightfully allusive piano played by none other than Satsuki Shibano (Sound Process' Wave Notation 3). Vibrant, sometimes eerie, and absolutely captivating, #Forestry captures Hamase's quest for musical freedom, he explains: "Inside the body of a musician, music is always transcendentally resonating. More than language, music reigns. When creating music overlaps with the moment my body performs, I strive to be as close as possible to the feeling of musical freedom. I feel that this notion lies at the foundation of this album." Musical freedom, here, provides an essential escape, extending the path uncovered by pivotal releases such as Midori Takada's Through The Looking Glass (WRWTFWW 018LP, 019CD/LP), Satoshi Ashikawa's Still Way (WRWTFWW 030CD/LP), and Yutaka Hirose's Nova (WRWTFWW 028CD/LTD). #Notes of Forestry is reissued in conjunction with Motohiko Hamase's Technodrome (WRWTFWW 035CD/LP) and Anecdote (WRWTFWW 036CD/LP) albums.

HAMASE, MOTOHIKO Technodrome CD
WRWTFWW Records announce the official reissue of Motohiko Hamase's astounding ambient house album Technodrome, originally released in 1993. This marks the fourth release from the Esplanade Series which focuses on the works of Yoshio Ojima, Motohiko Hamase, and Satsuki Shibano. Inspired by John Cage, Jon Hassel, Brian Eno, and the emergence of house and techno music, Technodrome is jazz bassist turned electronic experimentalist Motohiko Hamase's foray into what he calls ambient house or, as he explains, "using the gritty sensation inherent to the core of house music" to create an ambient record "aiming to express inverted images, optical illusions, and the sense of déjà vu that modern people can get in the city." Technodrome is constructed around innovative minimalism, a robotic funk orchestrated by bass lines and percussions, and monochrome moods. It's the most intriguing project in Hamase's discography, a ghostly ride set in '90s urban landscape, where repetition sets the groove and brings things to life, echoing Hamase's deeper subtext for his compositions: "and attempt to recreate (as metaphor) the time in our mother's womb." The album was initially released in 1993 by Newsic, the cult label started by Tokyo's Wacoal Art Center (also known as Spiral), home, notably, of Yoshio Ojima who co-produced the album. It is now reissued in conjunction with Motohiko Hamase's #Notes of Forestry (1988) and Anecdote (WRWTFWW 036CD/LP) albums. The album is sourced from original masters and available on CD and vinyl for the first time ever. Includes liner notes from the artist.

HAMASE, MOTOHIKO Anecdote CD
WRWTFWW Records announce the official reissue of Motohiko Hamase's extremely rare live album Anecdote, recorded in 1987. This marks the sixth release from the Esplanade Series which focuses on the works of Yoshio Ojima, Motohiko Hamase, and Satsuki Shibano. Anecdote was recorded live June 12th, 1987 at Spiral Garden (Wacoal Art Center) in Aoyama (Tokyo) as part of the Eat Newsic Concert No.3. Motohiko Hamase on electric fretless bass, synthesizers, and computer programming, is accompanied by frequent collaborators Toshio Kaji on acoustic piano and synthesizers, and Yasunori Yamaguchi (of #Notes of Forestry fame) on acoustic percussions. The three-man band improvises around Hamase's unique repertoire of ambient and electronic music, reinterpreting pieces from his albums Reminiscence (STUDIOMUL 010CD/LP), Intaglio (STUDIOMUL 008CD/LP), and #Notes of Forestry. It's environmental and minimalist experiments with a jazz soul, three brilliant musicians flowing to blissful heights, and a beautiful testament to the '80s Japanese ambient scene that gave birth to seminal releases by Midori Takada, Satoshi Ashikawa, Yutaka Hirose, and many more. Essential. The live album came out on CD only in 1993 on Motohiko Hamase's Lung Records. It is now reissued in conjunction with his #Notes of Forestry and Anecdote albums. The album is sourced from original masters and available on vinyl (double LP) for the first time ever as well as on CD. It comes with liner notes from the artist.
