BONA FIDE Wiek EP 12"
Wiek EP sounds like an Indiana Jones themed pinball machine. The listener is the ball that shoots through the rhythmically clicking labyrinth of the apparatus. The rich bass lines act as the electromechanically controlled levers, the flippers accelerate it and keep it going. The percussion is the spring-loaded mechanism that re-directs it to ever new levels. This exciting pinball game is accompanied by ethereal singing and mirage-like violin play that wafts through the hot air of the desert. "Violine Of Love" features Johnny Leoni. Remixes by Mollono.Bass and Pophop.

BYUL.ORG Selected Tracks For Nacht Damonen LP
LP version. Includes download code. Selected Tracks For Nacht Dämonen compiles rare and early recordings of Seoul's Byul.org, an influential creative collective known for its multidisciplinary/one-stop shop approach, and post-punk-inspired DIY aesthetics. The album was carefully compiled by the collective's director TaeSang Cho and The Notwist's Markus Acher. What started out in 2000 as a group of friends who'd meet for drinks (and for sharing the occasional poem), has long established itself as a shape-shifting key player of Seoul's thriving scene. With a huge amount of both commercial and non-commercial projects under their collective belt, Byul.org's members - TaeSang Cho, Yu Hur, Jowall, YunYi Yi, and SuhnJoo YI - went from publishing to recording, from releasing tunes to doing art shows, offering everything from branding to consulting and art direction, from naming and design to software development along the way. Accordingly, for Byul.org's members, music has always been one outlet among many, one mode of expression to accompany and soundtrack others. Most of the songs on Selected Tracks For Nacht Dämonen were originally released on CDs that came with the collective's own Monthly Vampire, A Magazine, while others were self-published via the group's own label Club Bidanbaem. Featuring sonic diary entries recorded between 2000 and 2007, the album is a nod to personal favorites such as Eno and Aphex Twin, Joy Division and Kraftwerk, personal hero Robert Smith, as well as Korean stalwarts such as Jae Ha Yoo and Min Ki Kim - and yet there's hardly any daylight around, to be precise - hence the title: "Traditionally in Korea a "BamDokkebi" (Nacht Dämonen) is a kind of ghost or monster of the night, but it has also come to mean people who spend their nights out instead of sleeping. We've always been a group of 'BamDokkebi' - drinking, DJing, doing stupid things." Far from polished and often sparse, the 13 tracks all share a rather dark and haunting vibe that's partly inspired by drug culture, dancefloor scenes, the LGBT scene, and the hippie culture in Korea. Ranging from fairly straightforward synth/electro tracks ("Friday Night") to hazy pop ("20thcenturyofmeandyou"), from more experimental textures ("Job") to minimalist bangers ("A Customer"), it's difficult to escape the soothing, cinematic pull of this nocturnal "Secret Show". These 13 tracks offer a peak into a hidden but vibrant Korean music scene: Nocturnal soundscapes, brooding electronics, ambient layers, and occasional hooks.

CHAIN OF FLOWERS Chain of Flowers (Clear Vinyl) LP
2016 was a busy year in the world of this Welsh unit. Chain Of Flowers slimmed down to a five piece and took their blend of heavy shoegaze and tough post-punk well outside of their Cardiff home, embarking on a run of UK and European gigs with Nothing and also their own tour of the USA and Canada. This all culminated with an appearance at the annual Blackest Ever Black rave in London where they held their own on a bill with drum 'n' bass stalwart Felix K and Bristol's Ossia. Alter present a repress of the band's self-titled debut album on clear vinyl.

SCHILLING Hella LP
Apparel Music return with the introduction of a brand new sub label - Apparel Tronic. The intention for this new division of sound is to shift focus towards UK-rooted beats, nu-jazz, downtempo, and jungle - a collection of styles the label like to term "Bliss-Beat". This treasured and futile basis of influence gives rise to Giuseppe D'Alessandro, aka KiSK, and Ludovico Schilling's new project Schilling, inaugurating the label with Hella from Schilling himself: a collection of UK-indebted dance tracks that meld influences from jungle, breaks, and hip hop. Originally born in Milan - Schilling relies on a process he likes to describe as "contamination" of sound which entails the layering of field recordings and the sounds of his home environment with those of synths, real instruments, and samples. This approach brands a clear stamp on his productions and enables him to create a truly singular strand of dance music and it's this that glues together the nine disparate tracks of Hella. Moving from the cascading breaks of the LP's introduction "Anarcoide", to the woozy and textural "Black Lighter", the album begins to build a spectral mood as it progresses. Tracks such as "Flesh Is Weak" and "Madting" draw influence from the golden-era of Bristol's trip-hop while tracks such as "Snooker Club" and "Viejos" delve into more caliginous, IDM territory. The result is a rich and varied collection that demonstrates Apparel Music's unwavering ability to continue to keep listeners guessing. Features Mok?a and Anam. Comes on 180 gram vinyl.

LES SANS PATTES Notre Renaissance 2LP+CD
A relentless vinyl collector and a fervent connoisseur of Anglo-American culture, the founding painter of the Figuration Libre movement (with Di Rosa, Blanchart, and Boisrond) in the early '80s, Robert Combas has always connected his art with rock music. The two are always intertwined and fuel his inspiration. During his exhibition Sans Filet, Robert Combas made an essential encounter with the artist and video maker Lucas Mancione, also from the town of Sete. They decided to make the leap together, at the start of the '10s, and create the band Les Sans Pattes. Notre Renaissance is a dazzling discharge, a geyser of cold and searing emotions, a conscious search for a unique and extreme experience. The tension in each track is palpable, as constant as it is pregnant. This band is full of character. Sometimes electronic, often a bit punk, always particularly rock n' roll - raw and physical tracks, compact and heady. Les Sans Pattes always lean towards psychedelics and repetition. Double LP version comes in a gatefold sleeve and includes a CD.

AMM AMMMusic LP
2017 limited repress... First vinyl reissue of the landmark 1967 debut album by AMM, AMMMusic. Remastered and cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin. Exact replica sleeve by Stephen O'Malley. "Coinciding with the 50th anniversary of its recording in 1966, this reissue makes one of the cornerstones of the experimental music tradition available again in its original form, replete with Keith Rowe's beautiful pop art cover and the terse aphorisms by the group that served as its original liner notes. A testament to the interaction between the experimental avant-garde and the countercultural underground, the album was originally released on Elektra, recorded by Jac Holzman (the label's founder, responsible for signing The Doors, Love, and The Stooges) and produced by DNA, a group that included Pink Floyd's first manager, Peter Jenner (the title of Pink Floyd's 'Flaming' is a tribute to AMM's 'Later During a Flaming Riviera Sunset'). Formed in 1965 by three players from the emerging British jazz avant-garde -- Keith Rowe and Lou Gare had played with the great progressive big band leader Mike Westbrook and Eddie Prévost played in a post-bop group with Gare -- AMM quickly evolved from a free jazz group into something decidedly more difficult to categorise. By the time these recordings were made, two more members had joined the group: another Westbrook associate, Lawrence Sheaff, and the radical composer Cornelius Cardew. Then at work on his masterpiece of graphic notation Treatise, Cardew brought with him extensive experience of the post-serialist and Cageian currents in contemporary composition. Using a combination of conventional instruments and unconventional methods of sound production (most famously Keith Rowe's prepared tabletop guitar, but also prepared piano and transistor radio), the group performed improvised pieces often running for over two hours and ranging from extended periods of silence to terrifying cacophonies. On AMMMusic, long tones sit next to abrasive thuds, the howl of uncontrolled feedback accompanies Cardew's purposeful piano chords, radios beam in snatches of orchestral music. AMM's clearest break with jazz-based improvisation concerned the idea of individuality. Initially through an engagement with eastern philosophy and mysticism and later though a politicized communitarianism, AMM sought to develop a collective sonic identity in which individual contributions could barely be discerned. In the performances captured on AMMMusic the use of numerous auxiliary instruments and devices, including radios played by three members of the group, contribute to the sensation that the music is composed as a single monolithic object with multiple facets, rather than as an interaction between five distinct voices." --Francis Plagne

DEADBEAT Roots And Wire 2LP
Deadbeat offers up a limited vinyl reissue of one of his most critically acclaimed albums, Roots And Wire, originally released on Wagon Repair in 2008. New mixes and mastering. From Resident Advisor: "Roots And Wire brings Deadbeat's Scott Monteith project full circle. [Roots And Wire] is something of a return to his musical roots as well, being infinitely dubbier and more ethereal . . . That's not to say that Roots And Wire doesn't pack any heat. The album may kick off with two slower numbers, but the arrival of the next trio of tracks turns the tide. All three tease, building patiently before showing their true colors. Tikiman/Paul St. Hilaire opens and closes the album with two impeccable vocals, conveying a feet-up reefer madness vibe rather than hedonistic/hell-for-leather. The title track caps off the album with brisk dubstep beats and ~scape-styled melodica. . . . Roots And Wire succeeds because the different intensities and beat structures of each track offers a more dynamic ebb and flow, all bound together by a homogenous dub reggae spirit. Monteith's refusal to aim for moody, vacuous postures aids in letting the whole thing breathe -- and helps to give back some of the life and energy he puts into it. Being so good, the only complaint you'll have is that isn't just a little bit longer."

KREIDLER European Song LP+CD
LP version. Includes CD. It was originally intended to be an entirely different album; Kreidler had already completed a new LP prior to recording European Song. Initial sessions in Mexico City in early 2016 evolved into a record that was in many ways, lighter, more minimalist, and certainly more playful than the band's work of recent years. Then came the brutal shock of the US election. It seemed to solidify everything that was going wrong with the world. The times of uncertainty, violence, and xenophobisms had attained a new quality. A cartoon villain, the evil corporate manipulator disguised as a refreshing amateur, a "man of the people", lured the masses with unconditional hate speech and now enters the world-political arena. In their 23 years of existence, Kreidler have often made music that might be described as "dystopian". And faced with the likelihood of these nightmare scenarios becoming excruciatingly real, suddenly, Kreidler's previously intended new album felt wrong for this universe. Kreidler quickly reconvened in order to record a brand new set of tracks. Circumstances provided no lack of inspiration. Fortunately, the group had just completed a short run of concerts and were in top playing form. The songs were captured live in the studio as spontaneous improvisational takes. There wasn't much in the way of overdubs or additional production, just some editing for conciseness. The mixes add cohesion and impact without smoothing off the rough edges of the session. The stringent drumming of Thomas Klein meshes with Detlef Weinrich's edgy electronic sequences, the brutalist opulence of Andreas Reihse's synthetic soundscapes are complemented by Alexander Paulick's restrained flourishes and rhythmic guitar and bass work. As usual, there are no actual "vocals" on European Song. Yet abstract, voice-like sounds often occur, suggesting a terrified crowd or a choir of hooligans. Repetition and modulation are the yin and yang in the band's hybrid of un-kraut, no-tech, dark pop, bunker. The hallmark interplay between man and machine results from a combination of collective experience and blind trust in the moment. It's a group thing, on purpose. Listening to European Song, the validity of Kreidler's approach is apparent from the first bars. There is an immediacy, an alertness, a readiness for action. The album title refers to the history of a continent that has previously surpassed all others in self-destruction. Cover art by Rosemarie Trockel.

GERRY & THE HOLOGRAMS Gerry & The Holograms LP
Well-documented as one of Frank Zappa's favorite ever groups and instantly recognizable as the blueprint of '80s Mancunian electro pop, the inflated alter-egos of Gerry & The Holograms (and their unrivaled brand of conceptual sarcastic synth pop) successfully remodeled, ridiculed, and redefined plugged-in punk before hitting the self-destruct button and burying the evidence under a pile of hand-mutilated microgrooves for over 35 wet summers. Having risen from the electronic embers of Manchester's first genuine psychedelic band, via Vertigo commissioned prog and experimental theater, then refined through the musical mind behind the most inspired vinyl moments of Martin Hannett, John Cooper Clarke, and Jilted John - the discography of the GATH anti-band remains unrivaled as the most idiosyncratic and enigmatic pivotal post-punk artifact from the first electronic entrenchment of pop. The first-and-only listenable two track record by this masked art-rock studio duo, entitled Meet The Dissidents, originally appeared in record racks in 1979, selling-out instantly only to be sequel-ized by a totally unplayable situationist-inspired follow-up which was glued into its own sleeve destroying the grooves in the process (rivalling that of Peter Saville and Durutti Column's Debordist sandpaper re-hash by at least three years). With a life-span shorter than the hours on their studio bill, the band would find bedfellows amongst other incognito groups like Naffi Sandwich, The Mothmen, and Blah Blah Blah within the Absurd Records stable - a daring Mancunian imprint that sat awkwardly between older and younger half-sister labels Rabid and Relentless. With an 11 release library of mostly non-returning faceless atonal electronic punk/DIY industrial bands, Absurd would spearhead and pre-empt the subsequent decades of Mancunian independent record labels that followed in the footsteps of the more commercially successful Factory Records. Despite just one official title to their name however, the true identity behind Gerry And The Holograms would unify those sister-labels and collectively play an important supporting role in Manchester's independent music history with a story which goes back as far as most rain soaked memories can attempt to forget. On Thursday July 2, 2015, The Guardian Newspaper published an article with the snappy title "The Great Rock'n'Roll Swindle - 10 Classic Stolen Pop Songs From Saint Louis Blues To Blue Monday" in which journalist Clinton Heylin made the claim that "If 'Blue Monday' had a starting point, it was Gerry and the Holograms" illustrating the vivid similarities between the two tracks.

BOY ROBOT Final Transmission EP 12"
City Centre Offices announces its last ever release. Operating on the fringes between delicate electronica and full-on disco-fueled dancefloor extravaganza, Michael Zorn and Hans Möller, as Boy Robot, bridged gaps between genres and scenes. Afterwards, they simply moved on, shelving the project. Around 2010, Zorn contacted Thaddeus Herrmann (formerly of Herrmann & Kleine) with the idea to work on some tracks. It did not take long to finish them, but for reasons both of them do not remember, the results never got released. Until now. This is the final transmission. SJOB MOVEMENT Friendship Train LP
LP version. "SJOB Movement's Friendship Train was the second LP by the group and one which saw the group rise to new heights. It's a masterpiece of African music with its fluid Afro beat grooves and spaced out Moog synthesizer sounds. Here is an excerpt from the liner notes written and researched by Uchenna Ikonne: 'Prince Bola Agbana might hardly be the most immediately recognizable name in the constellation of Nigerian music stars, but for a significant portion of the last half-century he labored in the shadows, dutifully serving as one of the key movers in its development: An in-demand session musician. An early and respected exponent of funk. A catalyst in the retrofit of juju into a modern pop genre. Most of all, though, he is recognized as the founder, leader, drummer and principal vocalist of the SJOB Movement. SJOB: Sam, Johnnie, Ottah, Bola. For a moment in the mid-1970s, they were le dernier cri in modern Nigerian music, representing the next step in the evolution of Afro rhythms, and a new paradigm for the band economy. Their first album, 1976's A Move in the Right Direction, was a minor sensation and was swiftly followed by Friendship Train in 1977. Then it appeared that the movement stopped moving, and SJOB disappeared from the scene."

SHIT AND SHINE Total Shit! LP
Bubbling up from his post-everything cesspit, Shit And Shine cups another killer album boff to the grill of Diagonal with Total $hit!, his second LP and third full release for Powell and Jaime Williams's indomitable imprint. A rancid ruck of rock 'n roll and industrial entrails squeezed for sustenance and sploshed with classic '80s disco, Total $hit! is nothing if not a definitive Craig Clouse record; insistently playful, scatty, and demented, in equal measures, but with a couldn't care less attitude that's always refreshing and welcome. Following his grind-core lash Teardrops for Riot Season (REPOSE 052LP, 2016), this one is a return to the heavy truckin' styles last heard on Everybody's A Fuckin Expert with Editions Mego (EMEGO 212CD/LP, 2015) and Good White Good Green for Glasgow's Heated Heads (2016), depositing nine examples of his nonchalant style at its most distended, unsettling, and, funnily enough, its most funked-up and effective. He makes a big entrance with the blind-drunk swagger of "Hot Shovel" trammeling rabid tribal drums, grunts and pitched voices in a febrile hot mess, before "Chklt Shk" possibly betrays his no f**ks attitude with some of his canniest, adroit tweaks applied to what sounds like Anthony Shakir and MMM fighting over the last cubicle after a plate of bad seafood, then it's back to twisted smiles and buckie-sloshing skank with the acrid disco nip of "Long Island City". The record's longest, murkiest section follows with the Jacko-shampling "Dodge Pot" dispensing a slimy hot streak of flatulent mongrel boogie that perhaps outstays its welcome, hence the entrance of two squabbling lasses who tell it where to go, which leaves us with a version of the recumbent coke standard "White Horse" ready for the knacker's yard, plus a trio of saltier, off-the-wrist jags that only serve to agitate and infect the sore he's been prodding at 'til this point. Let's be fair: Total $hit! is not big or clever but, it is messy and fun; like the soundtrack to a lock-in at a boozer exclusively full of mad c*nts who were chucked out of every other place. RIYL: Xão Seffcheque, Mika Vainio, Beau Wanzer, Powell. Artwork by Guy Featherstone. Mastered by Matt Colton. Edition of 500.

TILLIANDER Ofog EP 12"
Ofog EP comprises three original productions from Sweden's Andreas Tilliander. Ofog EP kicks off with an upfront and club leaning track entitled "Störet", which is driven by deep kicks and crisp hats that sit tightly at each end of the mix, leaving room for twisted chords and delayed synth swells. Next up is the fine dub-tinged and spacious aesthetic of "Oliveros", where ethereal textures glide freely alongside the live-sounding tape delayed drums, accompanied by a deep, weaving sub. Closing is "Risset", in which a half-time bassline chugs alongside vibrantly saturated percussion escorted by dubby chords and glitchy atmospherics.

MOGARD/MAURIZIO BIANCHI, ABUL Nervous Hydra / All This Has Passed Forever LP
Ecstatic's stunning split release between Maurizio Bianchi, godfather of the Italian industrial noise scene, and Abul Mogard, the much loved and hyperstitious synthesist, conjures a spellbinding testament to the transcendent and transportive energies of electronic music. Although appearing to starkly contrast on the surface, both artists' work patently shares a lust for the suggestive abstraction of raw current and its pareidolia-like capacity to generate rich and uncanny emotional responses from the end user. On the A-side, Maurizio Bianchi serves the obfuscated, coruscating atmosphere of "Nervous Hydra"; a 17-minute piece of sunken, desiccated harmonic structures and warped greyscale tones rinsed with ET radio signals and distant percussion that recall the sound of embers landing on tinfoil or snow. It evokes the experience of being caught in a quietly raging whiteout with only a dying fire for company, or equally a sense of subaquatic, amniotic serenity prior to being evacuated into a much colder world. Listeners can trust that the Italian artist's first new work in several years is faithful to his ever-uncompromising oeuvre, but there's also a tantalizingly elusive sense of redemption buried deep in there which marks it out from the rest of his canon and close to the work of his antecedents such as Kevin Drumm and Jim Haynes. In that piece's tempestuous wake, Abul Mogard brings a sense of soothing, glacial calm with "All This Has Passed Forever" on the B-side. For 16 blissed minutes, Mogard spells out a nostalgic fantasy in creamy strokes of Farfisa organ and Serge modular synthesizer recorded at EMS studios, Stockholm, and later combined with field recordings to elicit a wistfully widescreen paean to his days on the workshop floor accompanied by the harmonious drones and cacophony of heavy machinery. No matter the piece's provenance, though; it's simply a sublime example of Abul Mogard's gift for illusive, suspenseful ambient music which has seen his previous releases sky-rocket in second hand value since their earliest, sold-out editions. Over 30 minutes of ostensibly contrasting yet subtly, similarly spirited pieces that speak to the mystery and enigma of electronic music's tortured, searching and romantic soul in equal measure. Cut at Dubplates & Mastering; Edition of 500.

Where those records looked to krautrock and techno for their starting points, the side-long opening track on Hubris begins from the perhaps unlikely inspirations of disco and new wave, drawing particularly from Ambarchi's love of Wang Chung's soundtrack to William Friedkin's To Live and Die in L.A. (1985). Leaving behind the song-forms of these reference points, Ambarchi weaves a sustained and pulsating web of layered palm-muted guitars from which individual voices rise up and recede, eventually setting the stage for some lush guitar synth from Jim O'Rourke. Arnold Dreyblatt collaborator Konrad Sprenger contributes overtone-rich motorized guitar, pushing the piece into a satisfying intersection of shimmering minimalism and rhythmic drive that smoothly builds up until the entrance of Mark Fell's electronic percussion in its final section. After a short second part, in which Ambarchi, O'Rourke and Crys Cole pay tribute to the skewed harmonic sense of Albert Marcoeur with a track built from layered bass guitar figures and abstracted speech, the long final piece pushes the concept of the first side into darker and denser areas. Joined by electronic rhythms from Ricardo Villalobos and the twin drums of Joe Talia and Will Guthrie, the layered guitars of the first piece are transformed into a raw and tumbling fusion-funk groove that calls to mind early Weather Report or even the first Golden Palominos LP (1983). As this stellar rhythm section rides a single repeated chord change into oblivion, a series of spectacular events emerge in the foreground: first, aleatoric synthesizer burbles from Keith Fullerton Whitman, then slashing skronk guitar from Arto Lindsay, until finally Ambarchi's own fuzzed-out guitar harmonics take center stage as the piece builds to an ecstatic frenzy. Few artists could hope to include such an incredible variety of collaborators on one record and still hope for it to have a unique identity, but Ambarchi manages to do just that, crafting three pieces that emerge directly out of his previous work while also pushing ahead into new dimensions." -- Francis Plagne. CAUSA SUI Live In Copenhagen 3LP BOX
Triple LP version. Includes MP3/FLAC download code for complete contents plus three bonus tracks. Live In Copenhagen captures Causa Sui at two very special nights: at the release parties of Euporie Tide (EPR 013CD/LP 2013) and Return To Sky (EPR 030CD/LP, 2016). Since the band seldomly performs live, this may very well be the best chance to experience what the band are capable of at their best. One show was recorded at avant-garde institution extraordinaire, Jazzhouse, while the other captures Causa Sui at legendary underground venue Dragens Hule. Both shows were recorded multitrack with an A-grade selection of mics. During these three discs Causa Sui aren't merely running through classic cuts from the catalog. Each track is explored, reinterpreted and given new life - often straying far away from its original roots with a fervent energy. One minute the band is bluesy and heavy, the next they're repetitive and blissed-out or venturing into a cacophony of Ayler-like sax bursts, free-form electronics, and feedback. Swedish saxophone player Johan Riedenlow joins both shows and Papir-guitar player Nicklas Sørensen occasionally adds his magic to the Dragens Hule set - including a towering 13-minute version of "Eternal Flow", that seems to channel the energy of mid-1970s Popol Vuh, as well as a breezy cover version of Agitation Free's "First Communication". "Ju-Ju Blues", from the Jazzhouse set, is Causa Sui at their most fuzzed-out and Hendrixian, reaching new improvisational heights, whereas "Dawn Passage" feels like an obvious fusion of Tame Impala and Allman Brothers. On the Dragens Hule sets, the band goes all the way out. "Portixeddu / Tropic Of Capricorn" turns Bitches Brew-era Miles Davis into a crazed sludge-fest, and fan-favorites "El Paraiso" and "Red Valley" appear here in their ultimate versions. To cap things off, the band delivers a 17-minute exclusive tribute to John Coltrane's "A Love Supreme" featuring both Johan Riedenlow and Nicklas Sørensen.

DAPAYK & PADBERG Harbour LP
LP version. 180 gram vinyl. Includes download code. For nearly three decades sought-after musician, producer and machine enthusiast Niklas Worgt has researched diverse club sound effects with countless projects, while singer Eva Padberg is an internationally renowned high fashion model. Since 2003, they have been traveling and performing together as Dapayk & Padberg. Each of their albums is a sound logbook, which captures memories in the form of beats, tunes and skits. On Sink This Ship (MFP 081EP, 2016), the Berlin-based duo provided a first glimpse of what you can expect from Dapayk & Padberg in 2017, with their new album Harbour. This time, from the foggy depths of Scotland, their journey brought them to the sea, where Dapayk & Padberg anchored and found their temporary port - a place to take a deep breath and slow down, re-energize and let the energy flow freely. Allowing "the self-assurance to try everything in all directions" Eva Padberg says of album number five. Two very distinct places have had a special influence on the genesis of Harbour: The first ideas were collected in 2015 in Camargue in Provence, amongst panoramic views of fragrant lavender fields and extensive vineyards. After half of the tracks had already been recorded, both computers with all nearly finished song material were stolen - a crucial break for Dapayk & Padberg. Both started a second attempt in the spring of 2016 - this time recording in the rural seclusion of Brandenburg just outside of Berlin. Programmed loops combine with Eva's associative, metaphoric lyrics to form gentle, flowing, and sometimes stormy interplay. "Harbour", the title track, with its choked downbeats and the over-dreamy vocals, reveals the stylistic direction of the whole album. Almost seamlessly it fades into the softly pumping love declaration "Watching Over You", followed by the playful "U-Camargue". The melancholic "Sink This Ship" has an asynchronous rhythm that is softened by touching classical strings in the end. The slightly jazzy "Just Be Found" was influenced by trip-hop mixed with noisy radio samples and fragile vocals. Dapayk & Padberg's very own interpretation of late-night pop can be heard on "Nightshades". In addition to the regular tracks you will find selected skits, short instrumental scores that connect the individual songs atmospherically. The album ends on a conciliatory orchestral note with the '90s hip-hop and ambient-triggered instrumental "The Field".

VANNIER, JEAN-CLAUDE L'Enfant Assassin des Mouches (FKR 10th Anniversary Edition) LP
2017 repress. To mark its 2015 ten-year anniversary, the Finders Keepers label presents an improved, remastered repress, with updated liner notes in a gatefold sleeve, of its first release, a reissue of Jean-Claude Vannier's 1972 album L'Enfant Assassin des Mouches. At the time of the 2005 reissue the resurgence of '60s Gallic pop, once known as yé-yé music, had escalated beyond an interstellar height. Without a shadow of doubt, the flagship LP with the best odds on becoming a discerning household object was Histoire de Melody Nelson (1971) by one Serge Gainsbourg, an inimitable 45-minute concept LP handcrafted by a bass-driven psychedelic rock group and a heaven-sent 1001-piece orchestral and choral symphony. The album left hip hop producers and progressive rock aficionados crying out for more and more for years to come. This LP was in a league of its very own... or was it? The seldom-sung musical arranger for Melody Nelson, Jean-Claude Vannier, is the lesser-spotted tell-tale seal of sample-friendly quality when it comes to crate-digging "en Français." Suitably, rumors among French record dealers claiming "the band who played Melody Nelson recorded a follow-up LP" became a legend of psychedelic folklore. Another unconfirmed rumor about JCV taking the remaining outtakes of the beloved Melody Nelson to create a promo-only experimental rock LP left sample-hungry producers and DJs in turmoil... The answers to these mysteries lay between the gatefold sleeve of an undiscovered conceptual album bizarrely titled L'Enfant Assassin des Mouches by a custom-built avant-rock entourage called Insolitudes. So here we have it. For record-collectors looking for that special something, this LP contains the extra-special everything. Peruse the following genres: psychedelic, classical, soundtrack, jazz, hip hop, samples, avant-garde, funk. Then place a copy of L'Enfant Assassin des Mouches in each section. History notes that when M. Gainsbourg first heard the initial bones of this LP he took his poetic pencil to paper and composed bizarre liner notes, thus consummating the most extraordinary concept album of all time. The story "The Child Assassin of the Flies" was to be included as the only information to grace the LP's highly collectible concertina-gatefold sleeve. The story in full is reproduced in its native tongue on this very special re-release package. DJs and producers such as Jim O'Rourke, Stereolab's Tim Gane, and David Holmes have spent sleepless nights in perusal of original copies of this perfect release and now regard it as "One of the Best."

GOOGOOSH Googoosh LP
2017 repress; originally released in 2011. Googoosh collects some of the rarest records from the East's best-kept secret songbird, Googoosh, including forgotten B-sides and mythical LP tracks. Despite her reputation as one of the most legendary Iranian pop stars, Faegheh Atashin aka Googoosh is also the performer of some of the rarest heart-melting pop music in the world, originally pressed on the diminishing vinyl format. Her 1970s songs and performances were banned after the Iranian Revolution of 1979, resulting in her records being forbidden, hidden, and destroyed. Some of Googoosh's most famous songs have since become anthemic among global Iranian communities, but in a darker contrast, dozens of 45 B-sides and album tracks remain only as distant and nonexistent memories in the minds of the most devout fans and fastidious vinyl librarians. Googoosh focuses on a handful of these lesser-spotted tracks -- the ones that didn't get away. Googoosh's voice conveys an urgency and yearning that is arguably unrivalled under the often-disposable femme-pop umbrella. Mid-tempo pulsating pop paeans awash with expertly orchestrated strings (akin to those of some of the most intense European film composers) provide the backdrop for songs of unrequited love and poetic premonitions of impeding cultural heartbreak. Other tracks combine unlikely jazz, bossa, and early disco influences, which inadvertently incited political paranoia from the era's brooding anti-pop regime. Boasting deep roots in the history of Persian poetic verse and indelible Arabic songcraft, these lost tracks from the artist known among Farsi-speaking fans as "Iran's Daughter" have most certainly earned a place in the hearts of all outernational music lovers.

CIANI, SUZANNE Lixiviation - Ciani/Musica Inc. 1969-1985 CD
2017 repress. The American Delia Derbyshire of the Atari generation. With a sonic portfolio that boasts commissions for the Xenon classic pinball machine, the sounds for the Meco Star Wars theme, the Atari TV commercials, and the electronic sound effects in the original Stepford Wives film (1975), amongst many others, the mutant electronic music CV of Suzanne Ciani is proof that in a 1970s commercial world of boys toys, monopolized by a male dominated media industry, a woman's touch was the essential secret ingredient to successful sonic seduction. A classically trained musician, with an MA in music composition, this American-Italian pianist was first introduced to the synthesizer via her connections in the art world when abstract sculptor and collaborator Harold Paris introduced Suzanne to synthesizer designer Don Buchla who created the Buchla Synthesizer, the instrument that would come to define Ciani's synthetic sound. Cutting her teeth providing self-initiated electronic music projects for art galleries, experimental film directors, pop record producers, and proto-video nasties, Suzanne soon located to New York where she quickly became the first point of call for electronic music services in both the underground experimental fields and the commercial advertising worlds alike. Counting names like Vangelis and Harald Bode amongst her close friends, Suzanne and her Ciani Musica company became the testing ground for virtually any type of new developments in electronic and computerized music amassing an expansive vault of commercially unexposed electronic experiments which have remained untouched for over 30 years... until now. Finders Keepers Records present a new creative archive based relationship with Suzanne Ciani, who, as one of the very few female composers in the field (save Chicago's Laurie Spiegel, Italy's Doris Norton, and a post-op Walter Wendy Carlos) turned a hugely significant wheel behind-the-screens of many early computerized music modules throughout the 1980s, dating back to her formative years studying at Stanford's Artificial Intelligence Labs in the early '70s. Suzanne Ciani's detailed and academic approach to music and electronics coupled with an impeccable sense of timing and melody (and a good sense of humor) shines throughout this new collection of previously unreleased recordings. Lixiviation complies and re-contextualizes both secret music and commercial experiments of Suzanne Ciani made for microcosmic time slots and never previously documented on vinyl or CD.

SATO, MASAHIKO Belladonna LP
2017 repress. "There was a time when the strength of a musician's vision transcended all labels; here is a chance to dip into that pool again, and emerge not just refreshed, but alive again with the sense that we all can live in that world again, but most importantly raise the flag for excellence. Fantastic." --Jim O'RourkeAn unholy grail of near-mythical status is finally now available in the form of this first-ever reissue. Masahiko Sato composed this elusive, sensual, psychedelic free jazz score for the stunning 1973 Japanese witchcraft animation Belladonna of Sadness (Kanashimi no Belladonna) directed by Eiichi Yamamoto. Since the mid-2000s, Belladonna of Sadness has risen from the ashes and now shines brighter than ever. Now, on the eve of its third or fourth global DVD release in 2015, fans no longer have to settle for third-generation VHS telecine dubs or stuff their wish-lists into the hands of lucky friends visiting Tokyo. Belladonna has been used as nightclub projections by clued-up VJs and been restored by discerning feminist folk singers and improv bands while influencing illustrators, fashion designers, and other creative types along the way. Original copies of the soundtrack, however, are much less likely to rear their heads, with prices literally doubling each time the original stock copies swap hands among the same Italian dealers at central European record fairs. Italian soundtracks are expensive anyway, but this one, originally released by the Italian Cinevox label in 1975, has extra credentials. Finders Keepers Records and Sato himself agreed that this record should finally be liberated among those who know the magic words. With the decision to keep this album "strictly Sato," a track from the original release has been removed -- the main orchestral love theme by Asei Kobayashi and Mayumi Tachibana -- which in all honesty is very much detached from Sato's psychedelic soundtrack. Kept intact, however, are the songs sung and penned by Sato's wife at the time, Chinatsu Nakayama, including the track titled "TBFS," which only appears on the master tapes and never actually made it onto the theatrical cut of the film (though the theme is briefly alluded to, with different instrumentation, in a cut-scene available on the German DVD release). This reissue project also marks the beginning of a longer intended relationship between Finders Keepers and Masahiko Sato, exploring his recorded work in film music, jazz, and avant-garde composition.

CIANI, SUZANNE Buchla Concerts 1975 LP
2017 repress. The lost synth manifesto that could have changed the course of electronic music history by the first lady of modular synth history, Suzanne Ciani. Buchla Concerts 1975 is an archival project that not only redefines musical history but boasts genuine claim to such overused buzzwords as pioneering, maverick, experimental, groundbreaking, and esoteric, while questioning social politics and the evolution of music technology as we've come to understand it. To describe this record as a game-changer is an understatement. This record represents a musical revolution, a scientific benchmark, and a trophy in the cabinet of counterculture creativity. This record is a triumphant yardstick in the synthesizer space race and the untold story of the first woman on the proverbial moon. While pondering the early accolades of this record it's daunting to learn that this record was in fact not a record at all . . . it was a manifesto and a gateway to a new world that somehow never quite opened. In 1975, Suzanne Ciani was a 29-year-old employee of the Buchla modular synthesizer company, San Francisco's neck-and-neck contender with New York's Moog. If the unfamiliar, modernistic, melodic pulses, tones, and harmonics found on this 1975 live presentation/grant application/educational demonstration had been placed in a phonographic context, they would have provided nothing short of an entirely different, feminine take on the experimental records of Morton Subotnick and proved to a small, judgmental audience and jury the true versatility of one of the most radical and idiosyncratic musical instruments of the 20th century. In denouncing her own precocious, polymathematic past in a bid to persuade the world to sing from a new hymn sheet, Suzanne Ciani created a byproduct of never-before-heard music that would render the pigeonholes "ambient" and "futuristic" utterly inadequate. These recordings have not been heard since then. Needless to say, this record, finally commanding the archival format of choice, was not the last "first" that this hugely important composer would gift to society and the future, in a wide range of exciting, evolving creative disciplines in the worlds of synth design, advertising, and film composition. You have found a holy grail of electronic music and a female musical pioneer who was too proactive to take the trophies. You can't write history when you are too busy making it. With fresh ink in the bottomless well, let's start at the beginning. Again. You are invited.

MARCUCCI, STEFANO Tempo Di Demono, Papi, Angioli, Incensi E Cilici 10"
Finders Keepers present a reissue of Stefano Marcucci's Tempo Di Demono, Papi, Angioli, Incensi E Cilici, originally released in 1975. The mythical, mysterious and misfiled transcription disc of a lost Italian demonic religious rock opera recorded at Pierre Umiliani's Sound Workshop by Stefano Marcucci - beat group veteran, Fernando Arrabal collaborator and Libra affiliate. Featuring members of the wider Casa/Ducros family and future Federico Fellini collaborators, this previously commercially unavailable mini-LP features embryonic Minimoog, ecclesiastical organs and chorus alongside a tight psych funk rhythm section from Italian library music's golden era. Imagine Jean Pierre Massiera's Visitors rescoring a scene from Juliette Of The Spirits (1965), backed by a skeleton staff from Jean-Claude Vannier's Chorale des Jeunesses Musicales de France on a foreign exchange program; on Halloween, in the Vatican... Continuing their mission to shine light on the genuine anomalies of '70s Italian production music, Finders Keepers resurrects another unlikely transcription disc from the vaults of one of Rome's most esoteric library music archives. This bizarre one-off theatrical project, composed and recorded at Umiliani's studio, was commissioned for a short-run demonic religious performance entitled Tempo Di Demoni, Papi, Angioli, Incensi E Cilici under the musical direction of former Italian psychedelic beat-group member Stefano Marcucci. Instantly recognized by Flower Records founder Romano Di Bari as having commercial potential beyond its handful of church and small theater performances in the early months of 1975, Marcucci agreed that they should commit these bizarre recordings to vinyl as a form of preservation with hope of attracting a wider commercial audience through Di Bari's Television and Films synchronization contacts. Sitting slightly ajar to the custom-made projects of its label bedfellows (swapping schedules with experimental theme-music by Alessandro Alessandroni, Gerardo Iacoucci, and Anthonio Ricardo Luciani) and confusingly sharing an identical catalog number to another collectable Flower release called Ritimico by Paolo Ferrara (RED 402D-LP), this album has slipped under the radar of many library label completists over the years attracting confusion, skepticism, polarized opinion but nothing short of astonishment at the bizarre hidden synth-ridden psychedelic concept pop found behind some of the most striking duo-tone artwork to come out of Italy's most experimental era.

MILLER & STEVE SHILL, GRAEME The Moomins Cassette
Cassette version. Comes in a marshmallow colored shell. Imagine, if you will, a foreboding homemade electro-acoustic, new age, synth-driven, proto-techno, imaginary world music created on a Portastudio soundtrack for a Polish-made animated fantasy based on a Finnish modern folk tale and created for German and Austrian TV, composed in 1982 by two politically-driven post-punk theater performers from a shared house in Leeds. To even the most perspicacious and adventurous of alternative music fans, the genuine bloodline of this previously unreleased record already begins to sound like an entire record collection in one sitting. It would be surprising if this project's ambitious and exotic credentials didn't tick at least one box on your musical matrix and without one drop of unnecessary nostalgic hyperbole this project already sounds like the perfect fantasy record that you've never heard. From the same social landscape as Gang Of Four, The Mekons, and Impact Theatre Co-operative - armed with a Wasp synthesizer, an ocarina, and a cassette of the Robinson Crusoe music taped off the TV, Graeme Miller and Steve Shill used minimum means for maximum mayhem, instilling over 35 years of dream-like illusory fuzziness and freakiness into the memories of a generation of school age TV addicts waiting for the next five minute fix of outer national fuzzy felt folklore. Collected here, all in one place for the first time, Finders Keepers, in close collaboration with the original composers, present the first-ever full soundtrack release for the UK-specific cult animated series. Finders Keepers take the original homemade micro-melodies and reintroduce them to a musical landscape where fans of vintage electronics, concrète tape effects, pocket percussion, and domestic synths are finally ready to be reunited with the magnetic music of Moominvalley.

SCUBA DEATH The Worm At The Core LP
An innate facet of the human condition is the very personal way we choose to process our own fatality. Faced with dealing with the feelings of anxiety, death, and fear after nearly drowning whilst diving in the South Atlantic in his youth, Brazilian composer Ricardo Donoso chose to channel them into his creative process. The result was Scuba Death, a project that was fully realized on Donoso's widely acclaimed 2014 Further debut, Nitrogen Narcosis (FUR 077LP). After spending time devoted to establishing his Kathexis label as well as delivering a trilogy of albums under his given name for the Denovali label, Donoso returns to Further with a second Scuba Death offering, The Worm At The Core. The 36 minutes of The Worm At The Core expand on the creeping conceptual thrust of that Scuba Death debut, the title referencing the work of late 19th Century American philosopher William James. In his 1902 book, The Varieties of Religious Experience: A Study in Human Nature, James described the knowledge we all must die as "the worm at the core" of the human condition, further adding that this universally-shared fear informs all our urges, be it creative or destructive. Donoso continues to funnel this innate fear for positive, creative means on The Worm At The Core, which presents an important element of continuity from his previous journey to the depths as Scuba Death. The melodic strains that signaled the end of Nitrogen Narcosis on ten minute closer "Rapture Of The Deep" resurface to shape the opening movements of The Worm At The Core on "Paradox Of Finitude". There are, however, subtle shifts present here, Donoso opting to look to land rather than water for sonic inspiration with the six tracks based around location recordings of thunderstorms. These field recordings still play an integral role in the Scuba Death panorama along with Donoso's deft craft of analog equipment and sampling, whilst Rafa Selway's expert cello play is heavily incorporated throughout The Worm At The Core, further adding to the album's inherent organic qualities. The results are another evocative slow, ebbing pulse of an album encompassing the low BPM dub techno swell of "Cracks In The Shield" and "A Panic Rumbling Beneath" and richly textured soundscapes rife with haunting emotion such as "Mortality Salience." Reverse board jacket with insert design by Daniel Castrejon. 180 gram vinyl.

OL' DIRTY BASTARD Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version 2LP
2017 repress. "It's safe to say that hip-hop has never seen an album like Ol' Dirty Bastard's 1995 solo debut Return to the 36 Chambers. The brief glimpses of ODB's unhinged genius provided by Wu-Tang Clan's landmark Enter the Wu-Tang album two years earlier were begging to be expanded on to a larger canvas, and, with RZA guiding production, the album promised to give Dirty the creative license to make one of the most bizarre, entertaining and original LPs in hip-hop history. With his raspy, drunken flow and dark sense of humor, Dirty fearlessly attacks from all angles, throwing himself fearlessly into punchy rhyme attacks ('Damage,' with GZA), drugged-out party jams (the monster singles 'Brooklyn Zoo' and 'Shimmy Shimmy Ya') and bizarre, grimly hilarious fantasies of sex and violence ('Don't U Know' and the R&B-tinged 'Sweet Sugar Pie'). Backed by RZA's appropriately gritty, dissonant beats and appearances from the Clan, Return became an instant hit, selling over 1 million copies and earning a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap Album in 1996. The album stands as a high water mark in the Wu Tang Clan's collective creative output and was selected as one of the Best 100 Rap Albums by The Source magazine in 1998. In honoring the legacy of one of hip-hop's most innovative releases, Get On Down is proud to present this incredible and unique special edition of Ol' Dirty Bastard's Return to the 36 Chambers as a double LP which contains the complete original album, remastered for optimal sound quality." GROWING Disorder LP
Disorder marks a few milestones for the band Growing; it is their ninth full-length release, in the fifteenth year of their band, as well as their first record in almost six years. Though this is their first record in quite some time, this by no means a reunion record. When asked, Joe DeNardo stated "We never 'stopped' doing Growing, it's just that it was tough living on two different coasts. We work kinda slow so I think it just took us a while to adjust to how to make it work with the distances. As Kevin kind of built up his home studio in Olympia over the years, it got to a place where we couldn't not use it for Growing - it's such a great isolated spot to hunker down and chisel out some tunes." With an entire country between the them, Kevin Doria has been focusing his energy on his Total Life project, releasing a handful of releases and touring with Fuck Buttons, GodSpeed You Black Emperor and a host of others. DeNardo has spent the last few years making various music-themed films and performing under the Ornament moniker. At first listen, one may be tempted to refer to this as "return to form" for the band: sonically heavy side-long pastoral excursions being a hallmark of their earlier recordings. But Disorder stands more as a refinement of Growing's evolving sonic palette, employing dissonance as liberally as harmony, delivering the listener's ear to a rather unsettling "comfort zone". The effect could be stated as one of submersion. "Kevin's Total Life records and live set really inspired me to take a look at a much simpler setup." DeNardo went on to suggest, "I don't think I succeeded necessarily, but the way he maximizes his sound sources really blew me away. And I think it affected what I was recording for Ornament, and so when we got to jamming for the record, it sort of evolved from that. We recorded to four-track reel-to-reel, it was a pretty minimal setup. It seems like a heavy record to me, these slow, subtle shifts that feel like a bad trip sometimes." Disorder is neither revival nor bookend for Growing. Disorder is another mile marker on the long open road, both figuratively and literally. Double-sided, screen printed jacket by Neil Burke @ Monoroid; Heavy duty virgin vinyl; Edition of 250 copies.

WIPERS Youth of America LP
2017 repress. Authorized reissue of the 2nd Wipers album, originally issued in 1981. "Simply obliterating any conception of the Wipers as a mere punk band, Greg Sage released this follow-up to Is This Real? in 1981 -- a sophisticated, overwhelming response to the evil times marked by the turn of the decade. Broken up into six long songs, Youth of America is a much colder, harrowing experience than the teen angst of their debut. Vocally, Sage comes off as sleep-deprived and forsaken, snarling not only at his own predicament but at the predicament of the entire world. The centerpiece of the album is the title track, a dire ten minutes of paranoia and angst that gave Sage the space to showcase his wildest, darkest playing yet. As bassist Brad Davidson and drummer Brad Naish hold the same hypnotic rhythm for the entire song, the guitar careens and swoops with such a frantic energy, it seems as though it's the only thing keeping Sage alive in the maelstrom of sound. It's a fitting commentary that the exacting, post-punk legends Mission of Burma and squalling, noisy thugs The Melvins both saw fit to cover the track. Jackpot Records have kept to the high standards set by our previous reissues (The Wipers' Is This Real? and the self-titled Beauregarde LP), and Youth of America is pressed on high-quality vinyl at RTI and packaged in a sturdy, old-fashioned tip-on sleeve. The tracks have been mastered from original tapes by Greg Sage himself, and the cover is identical to the original sleeve as issued in 1981."

VA Spiritual Jazz 7: Islam CD
Esoteric, modal, and progressive jazz, inspired by Islam and recorded between 1957-1988. Songs ancient and divine - the seventh volume of Jazzman Records' acclaimed Spiritual Jazz series examines the influence and impact of Islam on four decades of jazz innovation. Through Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali, the civil rights era in America saw African American liberation politics famously associated with Islamic belief. This was not the first time that radical developments in African American cultural life had been widely and famously associated with Islam - that distinction belongs not to political or sporting giants, but to the progressive jazz musicians of the bebop generation. Kenny Clarke, Art Blakey, Sahib Shihab, Gigi Gryce, Idrees Sulieman, Ahmad Jamal, Yusef Lateef; all these legendary jazz pioneers - and countless more - were early converts to the spiritually charged Ahmadiyya school of Islam. Their faith profoundly influenced the music that they made, and the presence of prominent and innovative Muslim musicians at the heart of jazz culture in America has been recognized ever since. The tracks on this collection follow the story of Islam and jazz from the 1950s to the 1980s. Recorded by Muslim jazz musicians, they often draw specifically on Middle Eastern or Islamic music, dream of an esoteric or spiritual Afro-East, or invoke the landscape and sound worlds of Islamic Africa. Spiritual Jazz 7 presents a selection of visionary music - inspired by faith, powered by jazz. Many tracks never before reissued. Features: Maurice McIntyre, Kahil El'Zabar's Ritual Trio with Malachi Favors & Ari Brown, Pharoah Sanders, Emmanuel Abdul-Rahim, Creative Arts Ensemble, East New York Ensemble De Music, Idrees Sulieman, Jamila Sulieman, Yusef Lateef, Sabu Martinez & Sahib Shihab, Abdelrahman 'Abdo' Elkhatib, Solar Plexus, The Lightmen Plus One, Ahmed Abdul-Malik, and Dawan Muhammad. PAINKILLER Execution Ground 2LP
Limited restock. The seminal 1994 double album Execution Ground, by the original Painkiller with the line-up of Bill Laswell, John Zorn and Mick Harris on vinyl for the first time. When Painkiller started in 1991, their first two albums Guts Of A Virgin (1991) and Buried Secrets (1992) (both released on extreme metal label Earache) were heavy attacks blending grindcore and free jazz that brought together the musical backgrounds of the three protagonists: drummer Mick Harris had just left grindcore legend Napalm Death, John Zorn explored new extremities with his Naked City project while Bill Laswell had as a member of roaring free jazz quartet Last Exit (with Peter Brötzmann, Sonny Sharrock, Ronald Shannon Jackson) proven that he was not only a visionary producer but also an accomplished bassist. But it is their 1994 double album Execution Ground remains the opus magnum of the brilliant trio: Zorn's unmistakable shrieking saxophone, Harris's pounding drums and Laswell's growling sub-bass lines were given heavy mixing desk treatment, resulting in extended tracks that are no less intense than their early works but display the full range of the musicians's skills. Avant-jazz, grindcore, dub and ambient melt into eerie tracks of haunting atmospheres - even more so in the "ambient" versions of the second disc. Mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at D&M Berlin. Available here as a double 180 gram vinyl. Includes a download code and insert. Edition of 500.

ZEITKRATZER Performs Songs From The Albums "Kraftwerk" And "Kraftwerk 2" LP
Karlrecords celebrates its tenth birthday, and Zeitkratzer celebrate their 20th with necessary re-interpretations of early compositions by electronic pioneers Kraftwerk. Founded in 1997 by Reinhold Friedl, Zeitkratzer have since been creating an impressive catalog of recordings that embraces 20th century avant-garde composers (Cage, Stockhausen, Lucier) as well as electronic artists (Carsten Nicolai, Terre Thaemlitz) or underground experimentalists like Throbbing Gristle or Column One. In their 20th anniversary year, the critically acclaimed ensemble will release a series of diverse albums that will explore new grounds in the typical, adventurous Zeitkratzer way - the first of these albums is dedicated to Kraftwerk and their early, kraut-esque albums Kraftwerk (1970) and Kraftwerk 2 (1972). As Kraftwerk never re-released these albums, Zeitkratzer gave its best to cover the first tranche of the songs. Recorded in Marseille/France in May 2016, the six tracks reveal a bucolic and even psychedelic aspect of the ensemble that's mostly known (or feared) for its interpretative and aesthetic acerbity. And yet there's no doubt that Songs From The Albums "Kraftwerk" And "Kraftwerk 2" is a true Zeitkratzer recording in the best and fullest meaning. Zeitkratzer directed by Reinhold Friedl are: Frank Gratkowski - flute, clarinets; Elena Kakaliagou - french horn; Hilary Jeffery - trombone; Reinhold Friedl - harmonium, piano; Didier Ascour - guitar; Maurice de Martin - drums; Lisa Marie Landgraf - violin; Burkhard Schlothauer - violin; Elisabeth Coudoux - violoncello; Ulrich Phillipp - double bass. Presented here on 180 gram vinyl; Includes insert and download code; Edition of 500.

LUCIER, ALVIN Crossings CD
1990 release. Three works for classical instruments and oscillators (1982-85). Alvin Lucier explains the process: "The three works on this compact disk explore interference phenomena between sound waves. When two or more closely tuned tones are sounded, their oscillations periodically coincide to produce audible beats of sound. The speed of the beating depends upon the distances between the pitches of the sounds. The further apart, the faster the beating; at unison, no beating occurs. Furthermore, under certain conditions, the beats may be heard to spin around the room....." BEHRMAN, DAVID On The Other Ocean CD
1996 release. Originally released on Lovely Music in 1978. David Behrman's On The Other Ocean is an improvisation by Maggi Payne and Arthur Stidfole centered around six pitches which, when they are played, activate electronic pitch-sensing circuits connected to the "interrupt" line and input ports of a microcomputer, Kim-1. The microcomputer can sense the order and timing in which the six pitches are played and can react by sending harmony-changing messages to two handmade music synthesizers. The relationship between the two musicians and the computer is an interactive one, with the computer changing the electronically-produced harmonies in response to what the musicians play, and the musicians influenced in their improvising by what the computer does. Figure In A Clearing, made a few months before On The Other Ocean, was the first piece of Behrman's to use a computer for music. For Figure, the Kim-1 ran a program which varied the time intervals between chord changes. The time intervals were modelled on the motion of a satellite in falling elliptical orbit about a planet. David Gibson's only "score" was a list of six pitches to be used in performance, and a request that he not speed up when the computer-controlled rhythm did. The timbral richness and concentrated eloquence of his playing sprang from his own sources. Personnel: David Behrman - electronics, Kim-1 microcomputer; Maggi Payne - flute; Arthur Stidfole - bassoon; David Gibson - cello. Recording engineers: "Blue" Gene Tyranny and Richard Lainhart. Charming booklet notes by David Behrman.

A series of three pieces/suites; "Leapday Night", "A Traveler's Dream Journal", and "Interspecies Smalltalk" involving Rhys Chatham/Ben Neill (on trumpet/mutantrumpet), Fluxus mainstay Takehisa Kosugi (violin), and David Behrman himself on electronics. Behrman creates thickly layered liquid sounds utilizing this complex computer music system which absorbs, actually hears, the sounds of instrumentalists, and then plays off their improvisations with its own synthesized reactions. The system consists of pitch sensors ("ears" with which it listens to the performing musicians), various music synthesizers (some homemade), a computer graphics color video display and a personal computer. MONK, MEREDITH Key CD
1995 release. Originally released in 1971. Key contains Meredith Monk's earliest compositions for voice. The songs that make up Key were composed and performed in a three year period between 1967 and 1970, when Monk collected them into this 45-minute "invisible theater" experience. Meredith Monk on the release: "In Key I wanted to create a constantly shifting ambience. Each song dealt with a different vocal character, landscape, technical concern or emotional quality. I was trying for a visceral, kinetic song form that had the abstract qualities of a painting or a dance. I knew that I didn't want to set music to a text; for me, the voice itself was a language which seemed to speak more eloquently than words. I chose certain phonemes for their particular sound qualities. In a sense, each song became a world in itself with its own timbre, texture and impulse." In it, David Tudor orchestrates electronic sound in ways analogous to our biological bodies' orchestration of consciousness. The performance originates from a neural-network synthesizer conceived and built especially for Tudor. He surrounds this synthesizer with his own unique collection of electronic devices, and in the recording on this CD made for headphone playback, he uses a new binaural technique for translating sound into out-of-head localizations in which sound seems to originate from specific, changing points within a space around the listener. Performed by David Tudor; produced and recorded by David Tudor and John D.S. Adams. Binaural and stereo mixes on two CDs.

Scott Fitzgerald, Henry Miller, Gertrude Stein, and Thomas McGrath, William Duckworth's text reveals the multiple perspectives of an unknown couple whose post-modern love story emerges. Thomas Buckner's improvisation, "Inner Journey", is dedicated to the spirit and musical techniques of a beloved friend. SVARD, LOIS Other Places CD
1997 release. Other Places is an exploration of Lois Svard's interest in new concepts and ideas in music. This disc features works written for her by composers Elodie Lauten, Jerry Hunt, and Kyle Gann. Lois Svard has received enthusiastic acclaim internationally for her performances of contemporary piano music. Critics have praised her for her "lucid interpretations of unusual and seldom-heard repertoire," and for the "extraordinary musicianship" of her playing. She has performed extensively throughout the United States and Europe, commissioning and premiering several works by such American composers as Robert Ashley, William Duckworth, Annea Lockwood, Alvin Lucier, "Blue" Gene Tyranny, Stephen Scott, Kirk Nurock, and David First. The three works on Other Places share the ability to expand the performer's and listener's musical parameters in unique ways. Elodie Lauten's Variations on the Orange Cycle is a richly-textured combination of transcribed improvisation and intentional notation that creates lush, ever-changing tapestries of sound. Jerry Hunt's Trapani (stream) is a contemplative work exploring different facets of sound through a progression of tremolo chords played with a variety of voicings, dynamics, and pedalings. Trapani's slowly-changing harmonies are serene in their simplicity, yet mesmerizing in their unfolding. Kyle Gann's Desert Sonata is based on his unique rhythmic language developed from the multi-tempo structures of Conlon Nancarrow and the dances of the Hopi, Zuni, and other Pueblo Indians. Gann's juxtaposition of widely divergent musical ideas creates an atmosphere that is both compelling and enchanting.

Not only has he expanded the improvising violinist's palette via extended technique, but his sound and approach are unique. This solo concert recording can be seen as a follow-up to the much-admired 1977 India Navigation LP, Solo Concert (1977). Leroy Jenkins is an artist to be treasured. The music of Fixity is composed and/or produced by Dan Walsh. The project's first self-titled album was released on the KantCope cassette label in July 2016, and it presented multi-tracked versions by Walsh of seven new compositions. The Things In The Room is the fourth release by Fixity. The album was recorded in Malmö on the February 13th, 2016 with a band made of up Dan Walsh on drum kit, joined by Swedish improvisers, tenor saxophonist Emil Nerstrand (Brigaden, Heavy Water, The Nod), guitarist Nils Andersson (Ljom, Ava), and bassist Fredrik Persson (Sista Bossen, The Good Morning Spider, Leo Kall, Cassus). The Things In The Room comprises four pieces composed by Walsh, explored in collective improvisation. Each performance was captured in one take with everyone in the same space. Few Irish artists push the invisible parameters of sonic exploration quite like Walsh - a fact mercurially confirmed across these four tracks." --Brian Coney, The Thin Air. FERRARI, LUC Heterozygote/Petite Symphonie... LP
In the field of biology Heterozygous (Hétérozygote) means: a plant whose heredity is mixed. It implies that Hétérozygote, composed between December 1963 and March 1964, is an attempt to engineer a language located both on the musical and on the dramatic plane. You could call this music "Anecdotal Music" for if the organization of events is purely musical, their choice suggests situations justified at two levels: the music and the anecdote. Luc Ferrari explains the piece Petite Symphonie Intuitive Pour Un Paysage De Printemps (1973-1974) in 2002: "This electroacoustic music is part of a series that could be called 'imaginary soundscape'. Unlike 'Presque Rien Ou Le Lever Du Jour Au Bord De La Mer (Almost Nothing Or Daybreak By The Seaside)', where the landscape narrates itself, here a traveller discovers a landscape which he tries to convey as a musical landscape. Brunhild and I were in the Gorges du Tarn area. We chose to take a small path that was going up a rocky mountain for about ten kilometres. After a last turn, a totally unexpected landscape opened before my eyes. It was sunset. Before us, a vast plateau spread open with soft curves up to the horizon, up to the sun. The colours ranged from dry grass yellow to purple, in the distance, with the darkness of a few small groves punctuating the space. The almost bare nature was presenting itself to the eye, free from any obstacle. We could see everything. Later, when I recollected this place and the sensations I had experienced there, I tried to compose a music that could revive this memory. The 'Causse Méjean' is a high plateau, about 1000 m high, in the Massif Central mountain range. It is dotted by scattered farms. A few people bring their flocks of sheep home. I thought about evoking this solitary and hazy human presence by including snippets of conversations I had had with some of the shepherds. Human language is woven into the musical texture; the sound of the voice says more than its actually meaning. Once, a shepherd told me '... I am never bored. I listen to the landscape. Sometimes I play my flute and then I listen to the echo responding...' Thinking of him, I used the flute and its echo in my music."

Kris played additional guitar on the Lords Of Acid's Voodoo-U album (1994) and was also involved in several bands like De Krabbers, Fruitcake Freddy, and John Tennis as singer, bass guitarist, and guitar player. Thomas has played in several bands. He was the front man of Blue Train (blues rock), best known in Genk, and also plays in The Pundits, a neo-sixties band with songs that are inspired by the '60s. Siglo XX is still one of the most renown Belgian post-punk (cold-wave) bands of the '80s, who, soon after the release of theirs first release, the 7" The Naked And The Death (1980), gathered a strong following in and outside Belgium. With their atmospheric, yet energetic live shows and dark sounding vocals, they quickly earned themselves a real cult-status while the press respectfully referred to them as "The Belgian Joy Division". After several releases on the Belgian cult label Antler Records, they signed to PIAS (Play It Again Sam) and released six more albums. However, after the release of their last studio album Under A Purple Sky (1989), the band became inactive at the end of 1991. Most of their releases became hard to find, and expensive, collector items. Today, more than 25 years later, Siglo XX ex-members formed Honeymoon Cowboys. Dark rock sounds, with a gloomy touch due to the piano/synth, makes a direct bond with the latest period of Siglo XX. It's as if Honeymoon Cowboys have pursued the legacy where Siglo XX left it. BRUME Autoportrait (Clear Vinyl) LP
Clear vinyl version. Edition of 100 (numbered). A reissue of Brume's Autoportrait, originally released in 1991 on cassette. C. Renou on the album: "Emergency and compression ... it is the climate in which this 50-minute material was recorded. Comettre, a Self-Portrait is not nothing! ... This is a sensitive exercise, deep, must find the note, must sustain his own honesty ... well so, do not crash! This project, in 1990, took ten hours! (execution, post production, and mastering ...). I privileged a direct and rapid expression so essential to squirt! But I confess some 'literary verbages' essential in my view have been borrowed. It's almost live, as the set was 'sloppy', and made in just a day and a night! There's practically raw material, thick, rusty metal (beware Tinnitus ears ...!), performed without concession and without cerebral onanism ... but only by pure nihilism!"

Texture and feeling of 1974 with boosted audiophile sound quality. Originally released in 1974. German trio Sand's first album, Golem, is a legendary work of cosmic psychedelic genius. Storytellers, musicians, shamans, geniuses -- Sand were known, at the end of the '60s, as P.O.T. (Part of Time). Factory-noise, riveting hammers from the dockyards, agricultural machines, starfighters low level flights, land manoeuvre by the British Forces in the mountainous countryside along the winding river were the culture medium for extended sound aesthetics. KINEMATIK Ala' LP
LP version. Hand-numbered edition of 300. Kinematik is an instrumental rock band from Lebanon, whose music blends elements of '70s psychedelia, progressive rock, and post-rock. Kinematik's rock sound is both diligent and intuitive, ranging from raucous improvisational psychedelic rock to steady and mechanical electronic grooves, with frequent post-rock climaxes. Immediate points of comparison include Explosions In The Sky, Can, Loop, and Tortoise. Kinematik composes instrumental pieces that feature dynamic contrast, strong melodic lines, a heavy use of distortion and effects, and some reliance on electronics and synthesizers. The band collaborated with renowned Lebanese producer Fadi Tabbal from Tunefork Studios, who produced this debut album, Ala'. Recorded on reel-to-reel tape, a recording process that has not occurred in Lebanon for the last decade.

KHAN OF FINLAND Nicht Nur Sex LP
LP version. Includes download code. Hendrik Otremba talks about Khan Of Finland's new album, Nicht Nur Sex: " 'Nicht Nur Sex' is a user profile on a literally gay forum named Gayromeo that's serving the purpose of organizing its user's needs for fleshly pleasures. The transvestite's user name is programmatic, has an explicit meaning: it's more than sex! That breakthrough in superficiality appearing also proclaims Khan Of Finland aka Can Oral - artist- and real name go hand in hand. Of course it's about sex. There's more than that, though. The title previews an album that forces bystanders to take a deeper look but it also clearly states: here a few points can be found sex isn't satisfying without. Khan's musical aesthetics are glamorous, dub-like pop packed with samples and alienated voices - a musical tradition leading back to Grace Jones and Marianne Faithfull in their Island Records era of '80/81. We're able to hear moaned phrases, phrased moaning, artificial ejaculation. Nicht Nur Sex creates a melange of an intense life-style, here the untamed before-and-after finds a musical counterpart as well as the in-between finds a starting point. Even the album cover is held in a similar fashion: The archive of Khan's snapshots mirrors our voyeurism so we finally recognize we're most intrigued by picky details found in the hidden. Between fragments and snapshots secrets unveil, obsessions materialize. And desires dance. To prove this view is of political nature the song 'H&M Freedom' depicts various forms, shapes and conditions of dependency in today's world of consumerism. Khan's a page that's got to be written on from both sides regarding it's fidgety character in music and pictures: the Berlin based artist produces, sings every so often, remixes, releases his own records under his finish moniker or as a member of a band named Wild Style Lion, has recently formed a bridge between electronic- and guitar-music with the aid of J. Mascis and Kim Gordon, has been a club owner in NYC, organized events at the infamous Berghain, plays theater, travels with Goethe - or speaking metaphorically: melodizes live! . . . Through Khan's arrangement, a diverse interdependency of emotions is created compiling the ten tracks into a listening-album where a soundtrack can be found. A soundtrack for our sexuality - and basically everything in between!" Features: Joe Volume, Mexican rapper Alemán, Julia Kent (cello player of Anthony and the Johnsons), and Icelandic musician Urður (GusGus).

Two deep and driving house tunes by Baaz. Baaz's love of dubby sounds and echo chambers can be experienced in The Reason/Ancestor's Fun, but Baaz also stays true to his deep house roots. He skillfully combines spatial structures with his characteristic driving beats and organic sounds. "The Reason" is a grooving, light-footed tune with a jumping bassline and develops a driving energy that will not let go. "Ancestor's Fun" brings up the energy level with stronger beats and open hi-hats, but the playful warm sounds and drifting strings keeps the wonderful flow typical of Baaz's productions.

BERTOIA, HARRY Clear Sounds/Perfetta LP
2017 repress. LP version. After nearly 40 years of silence, Harry Bertoia's Sonambient label has been resurrected in order to release the best of Bertoia's unheard recordings from his recently preserved archive of 1/4" tapes. "Clear Sounds" b/w "Perfetta" was cut straight from the original reels and is a true analog pressing. These two pieces were selected for their minimal, meditative and lush harmonic qualities; lacking in the abundance of dynamics and contrasts found on the original Sonambient records, these pieces show another approach to performance. Slow washes of shimmering metallic sculpture rustle thickly like the leaves of a white birch or tall grass in the summer sun. Gorgeous harmonics hover overhead, making audible measurements of the length and purity of Bertoia's metal rod sculptures. Both Harry Bertoia and his brother Oreste composed extensively in the Sonambient barn deep in the woods of rural Pennsylvania where Harry kept over 100 Sonambient sculptures and gongs. The first Sonambient LP Bellissima Bellissima Bellissima / Nova, released in 1970, contains a Harry Bertoia composition on side A and an Oreste Bertoia composition on side B. As an homage to the original Sonambient LP, "Clear Sounds" is a Harry Bertoia piece from June 30, 1973 and "Perfetta" is an Oreste Bertoia piece from June 28, 1971. Harry Bertoia first came into artistic prominence in the late 1930s and his sculptural, ergomonic chairs were soon modernist furniture classics. Inspired by the resonant sounds emanating from metals as he worked them and encouraged by his brother Oreste, whose passion was music, Harry restored a fieldstone "Pennsylvania Dutch" barn as the home for this experiment in sounding sculptures which he had begun in the 1950s. Bertoia was an obsessive composer and relentless experimenter, often working late into the night and accumulating hundreds of tapes of his best performances; Oreste, too, would explore and record the sculptures's sounds during his annual visits to his brother's home in rural Pennsylvania. Over nearly twenty years, adding, culling and rearranging, Bertoia carefully selected nearly 100 harmonious pieces ranging in height from under a foot to more than fifteen feet. Learning by experimentation was common for Bertoia and he mastered the art of tape recording, turning the Sonambient barn into a sound studio with four overhead microphones hanging from the rafters in a square formation. He would experiment with overdubbing by performing along to previous recordings, constantly improving his methods while also honing his performance skills.

MINEO, ATTILIO Man In Space With Sounds LP
Limited restock, new lower pricing. Recorded in 1951 but only released in conjunction with the 1962 Seattle World's Fair as the musical accompaniment to the Bubbelator, a transparent, spherical elevator that carried as many as 150 passengers, Attilio Mineo's Man In Space With Sounds remains one of the most foreboding and complex records in the cosmic exotica canon. A dark, dissonant exploration of interstellar travel rooted in the avant-garde ethos of Cage and Stockhausen, this is music that's alien not only in its presentation but also in its orientation, fusing traditional instrumentation and sound effects to the point that one becomes indistinguishable from the other. Electronic elements pulse, hum, and sputter their way to complete domination of Mineo's sonic palette, depicting a bleak, sterile future where mankind gives way to machinery. The Bubbleator transported fair visitors through an overview of the future, a technological utopia where science and space travel promised solutions to all of humanity's plights. Needless to say, that future never arrived and this music (actually recorded in the early 1950s) still sounds as futuristic today as it must have back then. The all-original compositions fall somewhere between nervous Philip Glass and 1950s sci-fi movie music, arranged with a string orchestra in a sometimes rhythmic, polyrhythmic, or merely ambient cloud of odd electronic space noises. Despite its intended technological optimism, the music is quite heavy and menacing, and the future ultimately feels pretty scary. Regardless, this recording proves Attilio Mineo to have been an unbelievably progressive and underappreciated composer and arranger. The amazing aural and visual content of this endearing package transcends everything. GROSSE & STEFAN SCHNEIDER, KATHARINA Tiergarten LP
It may be tempting to describe Tiergarten, the first collaborative album by Katharina Grosse and Stefan Schneider, as a collaboration of an internationally renowned visual artist and an equally internationally renowned musician. Grosse's distinctive approach to non-representational painting has been the subject of exhibitions worldwide. Schneider's musical activities involve being a founding member of Dusseldorf outfit Kreidler and a longtime commitment as a member of Berlin-based trio To Rococo Rot. "Collaboration" seems inept in describing Tiergarten; It's a sort of almost telepathic understanding that has grown out of a long friendship. Tiergarten is an instrumental album of two performers on analog synthesizers interacting, communicating, contemplating, and complementing each other through their instruments and intuitions. They met in the late 1980s, both studying fine arts at Dusseldorf Academy. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, on their different trajectories, they stayed in touch. After a number of performances between 2008-2015, the two decided to record an album together. Over the course of two years, with a self-imposed limit of two players and a sparse set-up of just a few synthesizers, the two made recordings. They prepared for these recordings, but separately, and then, intuitively and listening to one another playing live, formed clusters of sound, an intensive conversation, as Grosse puts it, "without fixations". However, what these tracks evoke are not concrete, static images, but surprising, lively scenes. Analog synthesizers - at least the way Grosse and Schneider make use of them in a sense of personal as well as aesthetic trust - are in themselves reminiscent of living organs in the sense that they can be more than simply tools giving a linear output to straightforward input, instead drifting into unknown territory. There is no target they aim for, other than the formal parameters of an album. The nine tracks form a cycle in which certain motifs or soundscapes reoccur and subtly mutate - like sirens, dark rivers, gravel, a rippling water surface, cells multiplying, ice melting. With Tiergarten, Grosse and Schneider bring their very own, fresh approach to a short but significant tradition of pulsating analog synthesia dedicated to Berlin and its historic and aesthetic landscape. The album cover features one of Grosse's spray-painted works. The inner sleeve features photographs by Schneider. Includes a download code.

It's not about nostalgia, it's about the freshness and directness - call it naivety - you lose when you start becoming a professional musician. I moved to New York almost five years ago. These past few years have been a weird combination of excitement and quite challenging events. I've learnt what it means to be exiled, in every sense. This album is about that, being far away from 'home' and from yourself and finding your way back. The album is built like an unknown city, you walk through it, making random turns, getting lost, some corners may bring back memories, you're getting away from something and at the same time you're on a quest. Hence the importance of listening to it in its entirety (yes, I'm a utopian)." Double LP version comes in a gatefold sleeve and includes a CD.

GROUP ZERO Structures And Light LP
Debut record from Group Zero (Cathal Cully of Girls Names). Using synthesizers and drum machines, Structures And Lights glistens with subtle Euro sophistication - pairing cold-wave optimism alongside freaky and brutal tracks for the more open-minded DJs and dancefloors. Written, recorded and mixed intermittently over four years, the narrative of Structures And Light is bound by a deepening connection with electronics, instrumentation, and the studio. With no imminent touring schedule or release deadlines, Cully built a modest home setup and began producing on his own again. He explains: "It was as an exercise in my own development and it was fun. It brought the naivety and spontaneity back to making music." This first collection of Group Zero music - along with a library of other ideas and sketches - was thought to be eternally lost and all but forgotten until a chance conversation with Touch Sensitive Records led to the tracks being salvaged and subsequently restored. The genesis of this newly discovered musical freedom coincided with a viewing of Pyramid Of Light by Heinz Mack from the post-war Dusseldorf based Group Zero art movement which resonated deeply. Cully explains: "It stirred up questions and emotions which I could not get from a book or a screen. It was the direct relation between me, the light and the physical object hanging on the wall. New moments of beauty locked in the memory. I was in awe." Cully was also taking influence from a range of contemporary electronic producers - on labels such as LIES, Diagonal, Optimo Music, Blackest Ever Black, and PAN: "These records felt as much in keeping with post-punk traditions and my own DIY background whilst tapping into the primitive ideas of masters such as Cluster, Suicide, Malaria!, and the proto-techno of pre-club music." Just as a structure obscures or reflects light furnishing us with new ways of seeing; the propulsive rhythms in Structures And Light reveal subtle differences on each repeated cycle. Here's a record from a Belfast bedroom that sounds nothing like the city, past or present. It's made with synths and drum machines, and it glistens with subtle Euro sophistication.

TAKADA, MIDORI Through The Looking Glass (Limited Audiophile Edition) 2x12"
2x12" version. Comes in a gatefold Stoughton "Tip-On" jacket. Palto Flats and We Release Whatever The Fuck We Want Records present the highly-anticipated reissue of Japanese percussionist Midori Takada's sought after and timeless ambient/minimal album Through The Looking Glass, originally released in 1983 by RCA Japan. Considered a holy grail of Japanese music by many, Through The Looking Glass is Midori Takada's first solo endeavor, a captivating four-song suite capturing her deep quests into traditional African and Asian percussive language and exploring contemplative ambient sounds with an admirably precise use of marimba. The result is alternatively ethereal and vibrant, always precise and mesmerizing, and makes for an atmospheric masterpiece and an unparalleled sonic and spiritual experience. Midori Takada is a composer, multi-percussionist, and theater artist renowned in Japanese vanguard circles. Midori has released two solo albums: Through The Looking Glass and Tree Of Life (1999) and wrote music for Tadashi Suzuki's theater plays. Her hypnotic, minimalist music is based in the concept of coherence between sound and the human body. She performs solo on marimba and other percussion instruments. She debuted on the scene of Berlin Philharmonic, performing with the RIAS Symphonie-Orchester Berlin just after graduating from Tokyo University of the Arts in 1974. She continued her career with solo concerts in Japan and abroad. In the 1980s, Midori began to explore the traditional music of Asia and Africa. Her fascination resulted in joint projects with Kakraba Lobi from Ghana, Lamine Konte from Senegal, Farafina Band from Burkina Faso, and Korean musicians: zither player Chi Seong-Ja, flute player Won-Il, and saxophone player Kang Tae-Hwan. She also led Mkwaju Ensemble's innovative percussion project and still performs with free-jazz band Ton-Klami with Kang Tae-Hwan and jazz pianist Masahiko Satoh. Takada's compositions have a remarkable way of affecting the imagination. Her minimalist, contemplative music is filled with the concept of infinity and reminds us of a moon voyage, falling stars, a journey into the ocean, or a walk in the garden. The trans melodies, initially simple, begin to loop and splinter, their rhythm breaking and thickening, slowly drawing the listener into another reality. This fully licensed reissue comes with extensive liner notes.

JFDR Brazil LP
LP version. Includes printed inner sleeve and download code. JFDR - the latest project from young and prolific Icelandic songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jófríður Ákadóttir (Samaris, Pascal Pinon, Gangly) - releases her debut solo full-length album Brazil, through her own label White Sun Records. Brazil was recorded in New York in 2016 and co-produced by legendary multi-instrumentalist Shahzad Ismaily (Laurie Anderson, Lou Reed, Tom Waits, Yoko Ono, etc.) Brazil sees a blend of cyclical guitar parts, soft minimal soundscapes, and poetic wanderings of a journey that ends where it began. Drawing from classical, folk, and electronic backgrounds, JFDR amalgamates the sounds of changing seasons, her voice a current that moves through rough seas to smooth waters. But perhaps JFDR shines the most in her capacity as a wordsmith, employing rich imagery to evoke the subtle emotions embedded in each song. Björk is featured in the Guardian as selecting JFDR as one of her artist inspirations: "I got obsessed with her band Samaris a few years ago, and then it was amazing to see her do her own stuff." The beautifully shot black and white video for "Airborne" was created by Timothée Lambrecq with direction from Jófríður. " 'Airborne' was one of the first songs Shahzad and I recorded in New York," says Jófríður. "One afternoon I confessed I had never played with a drummer before, so Shahzad immediately called up his friend, Liturgy drummer Greg Fox. After an hour or so of intense Casio wailing and Greg drumming so fast it was borderline droning, it was suggested that Greg had a go at this track we'd recorded earlier that day, a half written song named 'Airborne'. It took about 10 minutes, Greg nailed it. The result is this half-programmed, half-live drum performance, carefully but effortlessly stitched together by Shahzad, merged with my fragile piano break up ballad. The track was later blessed by De La Soul's Maseo who stopped by the studio and listened. He said it was dope." "Airborne" follows the video for the evocatively atmospheric and mesmerizing "White Sun", directed by Brendan Canty. Comes in an inner sleeve with artwork.
