Q: May I see a list of your available releases?
A: Yes! They are all listed at our catalog page.
Q: I'd like to buy one of your releases that is sold out. May I get one from you?
A: Sorry, but a release that is specified as "OUT OF PRINT" on the catalog page is really sold out from me. In many cases, I only have a copy or two for myself. Sometimes, copies of older titles are still available from mail-order shops or distributors. If you poke around the web, you may be able to find a copy of that out-of-print title.
Q: Who are Intransitive's distributors?
A: IN USA: Forced Exposure, Revolver, Mimaroglu Music Sales, Erstwhile, Self-Abuse, RRRecords, Carbon
IN FRANCE/EUROPE: Metamkine.
Q: I am a distributor or mail-order shop in JAPAN, AUSTRALIA, CANADA, CHINA, RUSSIA, or some other faraway land that is not EUROPE, and I'd like to carry Intransitive stuff. Are you interested in working together?
A: Yes! Just contact me here to talk about it.
Q: I am a record store, and I'd like to carry Intransitive releases in my shop. Do you work directly with stores?
A: Not really... but FORCED EXPSOURE andd REVOLVER/MIDHEAVEN can service your shop if you arein the US or Canada, and METAMKINE can help you if you are anywhere in EUROPE. If you do not use these distributors, contact me and we can figure out how to get the CDs into your shop or catalog.
Q: I am a writer for a magazine/newspaper/website, and I would like to write about one your releases/artists. Who should I contact about that?
A: I would be happy to put you in touch with anyone whose music has been published by Intransitive. If you want to write about a title, that's cool too... just tell me who you write for, and let me know which title you're interested in.
Q: I just started a radio program dedicated to experimental music, and I'd like to recieve your CDs for free in order to play them on my program. Are you interested in such an adventure?
A: No. As small as a record label can possibly be, that is how small Intransitive is. I generally make only 500 of each title, and can afford to send out promos to reviewers only. However, I do appreciate your interest in the label! My prices are reasonable, so please help support Intransitive by purchasing a copy either from me, or from the distributor that's closest to where you are. If there is no distributor carrying Intransitive in your country, let me know and I will work on correcting that. Thanks!
Q: May I send you a demo?
A: Well, that depends what you hope to gain from it. As a teeny tiny independant label with no budget other than what I save up from my meager day job and the equally infintesimal mark-up on distributed titles, I generally already know what I want to publish about a year in advance. So it is very unlikely that I will publish your demo CD. HOWEVER, demos can serve another important purpose: communication! I do love music, so I'm always happy to listen to whatever people are up to. It may take me months to get to it, but I probably will listen to whatever you send me. And then we will have met, sorta, and meeting cool people is one of the joys of life. Send me a CD to say hello, but please don't expect to be published. Also, please understand that I recieve tons of music in the mail, and I also buy a lot of records, so my to-be-listened-to pile grows all the time. It may take a while for me to get to your demo CD... please don't write to me every week to ask me what I think of it. I'm not insulting you, I just have a lot of music to get through, and I usually listen to Fela Kuti or the Smiths. Or the Fall.
Q: How do I get my CD, tape, or record into your distribution catalog?
A: Drop me an email with a full description, wholesale price and desired terms, and then we can talk about it.
Q: I ordered some stuff awhile ago, but haven't recieved it yet. What's up?
A: Intransitive is a one-man operation that I do in my evenings and the days that I'm not working. My goal is to send out all orders within a week of recieving them.... while I strive to be as professional as possible, it occasionally takes me awhile to get to the post office with the stack of boxed-up orders. Please be patient, or it's always okay to email me to ask if your order has been shipped yet. If you'd like faster shipping, just let me know, and I'll give you a quote for Priority shipping and I'll rush your order to the PO.
Q: Will you be reissuing X anytime soon?
A: I do plan on reissuing some of the older titles, but my limited funds means that my priority will be on publishing new CDs. I would like to repress older titles when I am making more money in my day job... right now, I have plans to reissue int14 Lionel Marchetti "Knud un Nom du Serpent (Le Cercle des Entrailles)" CD in 2008, perhaps with more to follow.
Q: I'm a musician on tour, and I'm coming to Boston soon. Can you book a gig for me?
A: Maybe! Send me some information about what you do, and if I can't do it myself, I might be able to refer you to someone else in town who can help. The truth is that booking shows takes a lot of hard work, time, and is a financial risk, so I have backed off from doing it as often as I used to.
Q: I run an mp3 blog, and would like to post your entire album on there for my friends to download for free! I just like your music SO MUCH, and feel that this is a cool way to get the word out. Are you okay with that?
A: Hells no! Look here, kid: if you do this, I will find out who you are, then I'll find out where you live. Then you'll get a little visit. Understand? Intransitive is a tiny one-person label, something that I've dedicated 10 years of my life to (so far). If you MUST post something on your mp3 blog, I don't mind a short excerpt IF it goes along with a review and is accompanied by a link to either this website or one of my distributors' sites (Midheaven or Forced Exposure for the US or Metamkine for Europe are preferred). But get in touch with me first, let me know what you have in mind, and maybe we can work something out. I'd rather that than outright piracy. Thanks!
