Hello fellow deviants,

Last weekend I send you a mail about the latest TeKa catalogue. As a
real Legendary Pink Dots fan I ordered all 3 of the new CD-R's. I was
suprised to find them yesterday in my mail box. I didn't expect them so
soon. They must have mailed them to me before they received my payment.
I thought you might be interested, so here's a description on all 3 of
them.

'Ancient Daze' the Legendary Pink Dots '80-'81
- Violence
- Thursday Night Fever
- O(n)fice
- The Chemical Playschool
- Voices
- Breakday
- Only Dreaming
- It rots your liver
- Black Highway
- Phallus Dei
- Game
- Guess the politician
- Dolls' House
- Louder after 6
- Spaced out
- Amphitheatre
This CD contains the very early material including most of the 'Only
dreaming cassette'. A lot of the songs also appeared elsewhere,
especially on the Chemical Playschool parts 1 and 2. Some of these,
like Louder after 6 and Phallus Dei, in the same version and others,
like Voices, Breakday and Black Highway, in different versions.
Of course the recording quality is not high. Also the songs are not
their best ones. They had a lot to learn at that time.
The Legendary Pink Dots were a special band right from the beginning.
Most other bands start rehearsing in a garage and playing gigs. Not many
of them reach the stage of recording their own material. The Pink Dots
started to record right from the beginning. When they were not satisfied
they sometimes tried to rerecord the song different.
The work of the Legendary Pink Dots is like a big jigsaw puzzle, and
with this 'Ancient Daze' I have a few more pieces on their right spot.
And with every new pieces the whole image seems to change again...

'Live '85-'88'
- Regression
- True Love
- A Strychnine Kiss
- Neon Mariners
- A Lust for Powder
- Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....
- The Gallery
- Curious Guy
- I am the Way, the Truth, the Light
- Neon Gladiators
- Mezhznyne (extract)
Reading your messages on CZ gives me the impression that a lot of you
never have seen the line-up with Edward, Phil, Stret Majest, Jason,
Graeme Whitehead and of course Patrick Paganini play live. I saw them on
june 6th 1986 at the Luxor in Arnhem (Holland) and on january 24th 1988
in Willem II in 's-Hertogenbosch (Holland).
The second one is one of the best I've ever experienced. They were a
very close team on stage. It came as a surprise to me that this came to
an end later that year. This new CD-R is a good example of what they
were capable of.

'Live '89'
- Intro
- Casting the Runes
- Maniac
- Black Zone
- The Talent Contest
- 8 Minutes to Live
- Blacklist
- Princess Coldheart
- Pleasure Palace
- Der Schrei
- I dream of Jeannie
1989 was a transition year for the Pink Dots. The violin which was so
typical for their previous work was gone and replaced by horns. Also
they abandoned the drum machine.
I saw them play live on january 20th again in Willem II 's-Hertogenbosch
as a trio with Edward, Phil and Niels van Hoorn. A year later on januari
10th 1990 I saw them again but now with Bob Pistoor.
This concert was recorded at Kling-Klang in Wilhelmshaven. I think they
were a trio back then, I don't hear a guitar on the concert. Because of
the minimal line-up the songs sound a bit different compared to the
studio recordings.
Remarkable are the intro, which gives this CD-R a real live impression,
and Der Schrei, which is a rather strange version of So Gallantly
Screaming sung entirely in German by Edward.

Best regards,
Erik.

Hi,

I think it was discussed here before, but so I'd like to do a small review on
the CD-Rs "Ancient Daze"

Just a CD in style of CP tapes/CDs or Pink Box. It includes early material
from 1980/81, the production and sound is low, because it is from very early
tape recordings. It includes mostly known songs from other Tapes collections:
early versions of Break day, Voices, Louder after 6 etc. I think only
"Spaced out" isn´t to find on any other CD. It is a nice CD if you love the
old dottish stuff, I myself like more listen to the original early tapes or
CP CD / "Prayers for aradia" CD!

Live 89, includes a show of LPD in the "Kling Klang" at wilhelmshaven,
germany. It is from the goldenn age tour and includes great songs of that
area. For myself it is a great live document, because I met the dots my
first time on that tour. The sound is great, and it includes the great
german Version of "So gelantly screaming"titled :"Der Schrei!" ( And also
Princess coldheart & I dream of jeanniie in very early versions!)

Live 85-88

Different Live cuts of Dotish shows. With songs like Regression, True Love,
Neon Marieners, Lust for powder, way truth light, & Neon gladiators. This
has the best sound of all 3 CD-Rs and with Way truth light & curious guy
two of the best Live songs the dots played through the late 80s.

All in all I say: Live 85-88 is a very great thing to start with, and
also live 89 brings great sounds and songs. Ancient daze I would call
something for those of us who finally have everything and need some more,
but it still is not needed to have !

Hopes that is enough!

Cheers,
