Selected Poetry from Raven Days

Let's Do What Cats Do
let's do what cats do and go out in the street
let's do what cats do and get scared
at our own doings
let's get confused let's win or lose
let's pull the fuse and sit in the dark
cars out front get lost in the house
i can't even make it to the bathroom even
these rotten drugs a guitar in my bed
guitar without guitar case
this night for mice away from the rat race
this silvery girl and i stare at her face
i can't play and sing captain america for her
maybe tommorrow if we get drunk
but tommorrow i end up crying and saying
goodbye and giving my goldfish away
going to see liza minelli for mom's birthday
and being cold and being sad
even though i wore my new dress
and i was back in familiar brown hills where i first
got lucky

Cocktail Napkin Note
miss glass-gripper
i have heavy eyes
& a scoop neck
you too
see straight ahead
you too
order bourbon no chaser
grabbing a nickel's worth
of some shiney pistol-past
share it with me
in your pretty white collar
under crispy bed sheets
let me break
another biting heart
in this cold city
