2 AM/FM PT. 2 Spectral US 12" $8.49

Detroit's James T. Cotton and D'Marc Cantu are back with Pt. 2, the second installment of their dark acid collaboration as 2 AM/FM. Ramping up the jacking rhythms of their first 12", the duo works from a distinctly oldschool percussive palette to craft the propulsive backbeat of 'Sweat Box' and the massive groove of 'The Ace of Spades.' The epic 'Acid Planes' is an exercise in polyrhythmic permutation with the potential to take the entire dancefloor captive for its 13-minute duration. Continuing to earn their place amidst the heroes of the hugely influential Chicago acid house scene, 2 AM/FM make another stunningly strong case for the genre's vitality

ABSOLUTE NULL PUNKT Metacompound Important US CD $14.99

Metacompound is the first full length studio album from ANP in 19 years. Lavish metallic ink on vellum packaging by ANP fan and Sunn O))) member, Stephen O'Malley. ANP was formed in 1984 by K.K. Null & Seijiro Murayama. In 1987 ANP broke up. 17 years later they reformed for some live performances and released the singular Live In Japan on Important Records. Metacompound, their first studio recordings in over 19 years, is as indescribable as Live In Japan was. Combining free jazz, heavy rock, industrial noise, glitch and free improvised dynamics, ANP creates a sound that is entirely unprecedented
ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE Hot Rattlesnakes PMCD US CD $15.99

Reissue of a classic Acid Mothers Temple-related CD from 2002, originally released on Trevor Manwaring's Paratactile label in the UK. "Pressed in a limited quantity in the UK, it sold out almost immediately and currently commands high prices on ebay and is whispered about in hushed tones from those who have actually heard it. Guitarist Kawabata Makoto brings along Acid Mothers Temple cohorts Tsuyama Atsushi (Zoffy, Omoide Hatoba) and Ichiraku Yoshimitsu for one of the most out there power trio recordings ever. While certainly close to Acid Mothers Temple in sound and feeling, Hot Rattlesnakes certainly exists in its own little corner of the Acid Mothers Temple galaxy.
ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE Absolutely Freak Out Static Caravan UK CD $18.99

2002 release, repressed! Double CD reissue of the deleted LP (originally released 2/01), with 3 bonus tracks (approx 44 extra minutes).
ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE Myths of The Love Electrique Riot Season UK CD $17.99

"Myth Of The Love Electrique is the second Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O. album released by Riot Season, following the relatively laid back Minstrel In The Galaxy in 2004. Musically sitting somewhere between their 1997 self-titled debut album and the classic 'out-there' double album Absolutely Freak Out (Zap Your Mind!!!), Myth Of The Love Electrique explores the many shades of the AMT sound, managing to be both wild and beautiful at the same time. From the 'in the red' guitar driven album opener 'The Man From Giacobinid Meteor Comet,' to some quieter acoustic passages during 'Five Dimensional Nightmare,' to the total meltdown felt halfway through the 20 minute 'Love Electrique,' Myth Of The Love Electrique fully explores the whole AMT sound for the first time in years. Live favourite 'Pink Lady Lemonade (May I Drink You Once Again?)', a staple of any AMT live show, is included here on an AMT album for the first time in its normal length, complete with added space whispers from new AMT girl Kitagawa Hao, who fills the now departed Cotton Casino's tiny shoes elegantly "

AFFLICTED MAN Complete Recordings UK 2xCD $23.99

"The complete works of The Afflicted Man on one mindboggling double-disc set. Perhaps a bit ""grey-area"" in terms of production (and crudely mastered from original vinyl - as if there was any other way), but who knows what bunker Steve lies in today? Play this for your friends and watch them walk off to the other side of the fence. ""Too freaked out for punks and too punked out for freaks, Steve Hall stalked the nascent British punk/DIY scene under the guise of Afflicted (later Afflicted Man) throughout the early '80s to the interest of almost no one. Hiding in plain sight, Hall unleashed a string of 7""s and LPs that evoked a singular and unique take on the punk sneer made fashionable by the Sex Pistols and their minion. Primitively blending elements of psychedelia and dub over his feral, chainsaw approach, Afflicted Man unleashed a miasma of tripped-out, fuzzy aggro thrashers that would eventually climax into a masterpiece of pedal stomping carnage - the unimpeachable Get Stoned Ezy LP - the likes of which are only now being fully digested. Easily one of the UK's strangest and ignored DIY punk bands. This collection includes the entire output; all three mega rare 7""s, plus the hard to find LPs The Afflicted Man's Musical Bag, I'm Off Me 'ead, and the aforementioned Get Stoned Ezy. Essential in every way. "
AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED & CONVERGE Split CD Relapse US CD $15.99

"REISSUE! AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED deliver their most focused material yet. Still heavy on the ultra speed grind they blend in an older thrash ridden sound to put them right on top of the grindcore heap. CONVERGE bring you more of their emotional terrorism featuring their patented crazed speed metal sound with a more experimental side than before. Comes in superior packaging with a big fold out poster & artwork by illustrator extrodinair Derek Hess"
AGROVATORS VS THE REVOLUTIONAIRES At Channel One Studios Attack UK CD $17.99

Originally released in 1976, produced by Bunny 'Striker' Lee and mixed by King Tubby and Prince Jammy, these exclusive dub tracks will have you rocking all day and all night long. This is pure roots and culture from one of reggae's strongest, and some might say the greatest-ever production teams. This album is definitely 100% essential for all old time reggae fans and new collectors alike.
AIRWAY Live At Lace Harbinger US CD $13.99

" Reissue of this scarce LAFMS title in digipack, limited to 500 copies. This album was originally recorded and released as an LP in 1978; Airway was a group featuring Joe Potts, Chip Chapman, Rick Potts, Dennis Duck, Juan Gomez and Tom Recchion. Live At Lacewas later included in the Cortical Foundation/RRR 10CD LAFMS box from 1995, but this version has been remastered, using the original tapes for the LP. It is considered to exhibit a ""pretty different feeling of sound"" and features unique artwork that was only used on Japanese-export copies of the LP when it was first released. Crucial early-noise document from the Los Angeles Free Music Society heyday. ""AIRWAY is a brainchild of Joe Potts. Here are COMMANDMENTS OF AIRWAY: AIRWAY is a hole through which our conscious passes. Sound of AIRWAY is not an object. Sound of AIRWAY has no fixed location. Sound of AIRWAY has no fixed location. Sound of AIRWAY has no fixed meaning. Sound of AIRWAY has no dimensions. Meaning and dimensions of AIRWAY sound constantly change in relation to the universe inside and outside listeners. Sound of AIRWAY has no fixed time. The ""flow of time"" in AIRWAY sound is psychological not physical. Sound of AIRWAY is a representation of the 'whole' of sound existing inside and outside us. Because all sound of AIRWAY is interrelated, there is no such thing as innovative sound at AIRWAY performance. Sound of AIRWAY is an unfolded manifestation of hidden (enfolded) universe, consisting of all sound which will ever exist and has ever consisted inside and outside us."
AKIYAMA, TETUZI & OREN AMBARCHI & ALAN LICHT Willow Weep And Moan For ME Antiopic US 3" $10.99

Remove the chugging rhythm of the blues and you are left with the wail; that slow motion ghostly gasp of sorrow and bad omen. The high and lonesome sound of something wicked on the horizon is ingrained in this trio's shadowy and disembodied take on the blues. New York experimental music veteran Alan Licht, who has explored similar territory in his beautiful duo with Loren Connors, is joined by Australian sound artist Oren Ambarchi and Japanese improviser Tetuzi Akiyama at the 2004 Bomb the Space festival in Wellington, New Zealand. Using guitars, the trio create an alien and minimal free-blues drone. Akiyama and Licht both revel in the spirit of blues guitar, intertwining high melodic lead lines and creating clusters of tense tone. Ambarchi is a master at low end drift, and here the repeating low tones serve almost as a mutant version of a 12 bar anchor. All three players are deft at combining emotion with abstract playing, and this set is an exemplary instance of engagingly emotive yet free playing
AKRON FAMILY Meek Warrior Young God US CD EP $11.99

"Special, budget priced album, over 35 mins. long, shows the band morphing into something comfortably unfamiliar, by turns wild, gentle, raging, hilarioius, elated, meditative & sometimes simply beautiful. Features contributions from free jazz legend HAMID DRAKE, Griffin Rodriguez (BABLICON), Jason LaFarge (Pineal Ventana, Sikhara) & members of BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE & DO MAKE SAY THINK"
ALBUM LEAF Into The Blue Again Sub Pop US CD $14.99

LaValle then took the concentric billows of feathered keyboards, filmy strings and chiseled drums to Iceland for three weeks of mixing to tape to maintain Brian Eno-informed translucence. Having shared so much time and space with others on the road, LaValle proves with the personally charged Into the Blue Again that The Album Leaf resonates most profoundly when he goes it alone.

Oren Ambarchi's Stacte Motors is the most recent addition to the Western Vinyl portrait series. Additionally, these pieces continue the Stacte series started in 1998 with Ambarchi's first self-released solo recordings. Similar to the 4 previous editions of the series, which explored one idea at length, Stacte Motors is an experiment in exciting instruments with a spinning motor with strings attached. The resulting recordings are metallic walls of minimalist drones, both fearless and dreamy

ANGELO/JOYCE, NELSON S/T Discos Mariposa Argentina CD $17.99

Special collaboration from 1972 between Brazilian composer Angelo, one of the founding members of Milton Nascimento's Clube da Esquina, that seminal Brazilian musical community comparable to those of Tropicalia and bossa nova in its importance, and his then-wife, the legendary Joyce. Joyce needs no introduction to those who are hip to Brazilian music: suffice to say she is one of that nation's greatest musicians, a statement that has been borne out throughout her more than thirty years making music. The result of the couple's great talent and mutual affection is a spacy, psychedelic-tinged acoustic album that beautifully combines the talents of these two guitarists, who were very much in love at the time they recorded the songs contained therein. The music is very similar in tone to Nascimento and Lô Borges' Clube da Esquina LP from the same year - no surprise once you know that Angelo was playing on that amazing album, too!
ART ENSEMBLE OF CHICAGO Non-Cognitive Aspects Pie US 2x CD $24.99

"This 2xCD set captures the quintet in the midst of a 5 day stretch at the Iridium in NY. Made up of music from the weekend sets, the CD documents the band performing as a quintet for the 1st time since the early 90s. With chanted vocals by Joseph Jarman, funky vamps, classic material, hard bop, open explorations, & a dedication to a past comrade, this disc continues documentation of 1 of America’s greatest treasures. With the front line once again filled out as it was in the beginning, the band stretches out, interacts & enlivens the music in the manner that has influenced everyone from Vandermark 5 & John Zorn to Antipop Consortium"
ASMUS TIETCHENS Geboren Die Stadt German CD $22.99

"Eighth part in the ongoing re-release series of all early Tietchens albums between 1980 -1991. Described by Tietchens himself as his 'industrial' album, Geboren, Um Zu Dienen was originally released on the Spanish Esplendor Geometrico label in 1986. "

BAILIFF, JESSICA Feels Like Home Kranky US CD $14.99

Feels Like Home balances the more acoustic approach to Jessica's songwriting on her most recent (untitled) album with the blissed electricity found on her earlier material. Gossamer vocals hover over delicate melodies, accented by tasteful bits of percussion, piano filigrees, and sundry guitar sounds. Feels Like Home is the most refined example of Jessica Bailiff's musical vision to date.
BAND OF HORSES Everything All The Time Sub Pop US CD $14.99

BARDOT, BRIDGETTE Girl In The Bikini Cherry Red UK CD $17.99

The biggest female name in cinema, Brigitte Bardot is the embodiment of all that is sensuous and exciting about fifties and sixties pop culture. This is the soundtrack to The Girl in the Bikini, Brigitte's second film made in 1952. The original vinyl edition of this album is an almost impossible rarity; amongst the most sought after of all Bardot artifacts. Brigitte Bardot's enormous international reputation is based on her incredible beauty and intelligence and the work she did in film with Roger Vadim and in pop with Serge Gainsbourg.
BARGELD, BLIXA Rede / Speech Blixa German DVD $33.99

"Solo performance exploring the boundries of language & music. Sentences, words & syllables morph into acoustic achitecture, resounding spheres & cacophonous monstrosities. Microphones, effect equipment , foot pedals, monitor boxes & 2 loud speakers with mixing by Boris Wilsdorf. A peek into the lab of a vocal alchemist"
BARRETTO, RAY Acid & Head Sounds Vampi Soul Spain CD $16.99

BASINKSKI, WILLIAM Variations For Piano And Tape 2062 US CD $14.99

"Comprised of one 44 minute track, Variation #9 'Pantelleria,' this archival release is one of my all-time favorites of the piano and tape variations from the early eighties. Using a lilting piano melody on a small loop, the requisite magic happened in the recording process when this particular loop would randomly slip along the play head revealing an extraordinary counterpoint (in reverse) on the other side of the tape. To me, this piece evokes a lazy Arcandian summer idyll, and will always remind me of an idyllic artist's residency in 2003 on the beautiful Italian island of Pantelleria." -William Basinski, June 2006
BATAAN, JOE Latin Funk Brother Vampi Soul Spain CD $16.99

BATAAN, JOE Young, Gifted and Brown Vampi Soul Spain CD $16.99

BATES, MARTYN & TROUM To A Child Dancing In The Wind Transgrediant $17.99

Profound songs inspired by Yeats-poems: The acoustic transformation of the deepest yearning for this release, the German 'transcendental-drone'-duo Troum teams up with the legendary British singer/songwriter and Eyeless In Gaza-member Martyn Bates. More than 2 years in the making, Martyn Bates has sung & played (mouth organ & melodica) over basic material Troum provided - consisting of harmonic minimal loops & basic song structures derived from accordion, e-bass & guitar, percussion, who were then also responsible for the final subsequent additional mastering (adding more guitar-work, voices & balalaika). Martyn Bates has chosen to sing four poems of the famous Irish poet W.B.Yeats, and he did this with a most impressive sensitivity for Troum's very sublime & rather hidden harmonic structures. There are also two instrumentals in a more experimental style on this disc, one being a dark drone reprise of the main piece 'Mad As the Mist and Snow #2.' Martyn's voice is surely not something for everyone - it's of an extreme emotional & yearnful quality that might be not easy to stand - a yearning which is like a deep 'cry out to the horizon,' to something that is unreachable per se, feeling a passion that tears you apart inside. This is pure emotional poetry transformed into yearnful audible spherics!
BATTIATO, FRANCO Pollution Water US CD $15.99

Franco Battiato's wonderfully lively 1973 concept album Pollution is an audaciously psychedelic album drawn from the space rock dimension with good portions of electronics and keyboard layers. Drawing heavily on the VCS3 synthesizer, Battiato and company (besides himself, three backing band members play synth as well) give Pollution an extreme electronic edge. With comparisons to Ash Ra Tempel, Faust, and Pink Floyd, Pollution was declared 'genius' by Frank Zappa. Extremely influential on the '90s Chicago post-rock mafia. Original artwork. New detailed liner notes.

BEIRUT Lon Gisland Ba Da Bing! US CD EP $7.99

The sleeper hit of 2006, Beirut's Gulag Orkestar came out of nowhere to sell tens of thousands of copies in a matter of months and wound up on countless critics' year-end lists. As a stopgap before recording a new full-length in Fall 2007 - and as a way to capture some current songs being performed at shows - the eight-member band checked into Sea Side Studios in Brooklyn to record Lon Gisland. These are the first studio recordings made by the entire group, and a sampling of the most recent songs by orkestar leader Zach Condon. Lon Gisland features four new tunes and a full band reworking of Gulag's 'Scenic World.' The five-song EP was initially released with the European edition of Gulag Orkestar (4AD) and as a limited edition, one-sided vinyl 12" by Chouette. The Ba Da Bing edition is in a highly collectible digipak format.
BERUIT Gulag Orkestar Ba Da Bing! US CD $14.99

"other music gave this review Before I go on, I must also express my total shock and awe at the fact that these songs come from a 19-year-old multi-instrumentalist from Albuquerque named Zach Condon (his age, perhaps, being another reason that I had been so hesitant on giving the CD its initial spin). Condon's baritone voice is beautiful, delivered with the kind of world weariness that you don't expect a teenager to feel, let alone convey with such honesty. His melodies are a perfect match for the old Balkan-inspired arrangements; there's no shortage of ukuleles and mandolins, not to mention pianos, accordions, violins and marching band-styled percussion. I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that Neutral Milk Hotel's Jeremy Barnes (who also plays in A Hawk and a Hacksaw) and Heather Trost (also of A Hawk and a Hacksaw) are among the guest musicians. But this album is clearly Condon's baby, inspired from his earlier travels through Europe. It's not actually until more than halfway through the record that you really detect any modern influences; the toy synthesizer percolating underneath his deep waver in ""Scenic Word"" will make the ears of any Magnetic Fields fan perk up. It's been eight years since Mangum brought us Neutral Milk Hotel's swan song, In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, and then subsequently went into hiding. Though Condon eschews Mangum's fuzzy folk and surreal imagery for the somber sounds of the former Eastern bloc, I can't help but listen to Gulag Orkestar and not be reminded of the first time I heard those shambolic horns and felt that indescribable yearning emotion in Neutral Milk's opus. Beirut's debut is obviously no means its sequel, but it's the closest thing that we may ever get.- "
BIOSPHERE Cirque Touch UK CD $15.99

Touch is reissuing the classic Cirque by Biosphere, originally released in 2000. Quite unlike any other, Geir Jenssen's so-called "Arctic Sound" transforms the space in which it is played. Biosphere's music is an intimate reflection of the space and climate of Jenssen's Arctic base in Tromsö, Norway, but made universal. Adjectives like "glacial" and "remote" do no justice to the intense emotion of the music. 1997's Substrata showcased a sound whose dimensions evoked the luscious quality of Brian Eno's On Land, Arvo Pärt and even the best of Ennio Morricone. Three years later, Biosphere produced Cirque. Here, the shifting world of Substrata is fused with the liquid electronic rhythms of Biosphere's earlier work in techno. The outcome is almost addictive - layers of detail reveal themselves as you listen and appreciate the convergences deep within the music, between classical and pop, the soundtrack and its voiceover. Cirque is inspired in part by the story of Chris McCandless, who, in April 1992, hitchhiked to Alaska and walked alone into the wilderness, only to be found dead four months later having made a tragic error with his food supply. McCandless' quest represented ultimate folly, but to others, rare idealism in his solo rebellion of stepping off the treadmill to go living in the wild. Cirque reflects this idealism, but also the danger lurking in paradise. The music plays like a film, one scene dissolving into the next. Codas pinpoint the action like spotlights, and location recordings weave in and out of the sound giving it the dramatic tension of a great documentary. There is nothing old-fashioned, however, in the outcome. Cirque is future music. Cinema for the spirit.

BOARDS OF CANADA Trans Canada Highway Warp UK CD $9.99

"The enigmatic Boards Of Canada sneak out of the shadows once more with an EP that recalls classics like A Beautiful Place In The Country and Hi Scores. Lovelorn clouds of analog melody, shuffle happy drum programming and deep, restless synth tones color the new tunes, particularly headtrippers 'Heard From Telegraph Lines' and 'Under The Coke Sign'. Also included here is the standout album cut 'Dayvan Cowboy,' as well an LSD-friendly remix from Anticon's Odd Nosdam"
BOLA Shapes Skam UK CD $15.99

Shapes is the fourth Bola album from Darrell Fitton following on from his now-classic, Gnayse. These tracks were first released as a triple 12" package shortly after Bola's first full length album Soup in 1999. The release was simply packaged with no artist or label credits, just a white shape on a black background on each of the labels. There were just over 300 copies released worldwide so, not surprisingly, it came and went quickly, and has become a release much sought after by the collectors. We always felt that the tracks deserved a wider audience so recently we blew the dust off the DAT tape, had the tracks remastered, added three bonus tracks for good measure, including two unreleased tracks written during the same period, and here's the result: the Shapes CD. Please note, we will not be releasing a version of this album on vinyl. This will be the only format available for this release.
BOMBAY CONNECTION Various Bombay Connection Netherlands CD $17.99

1977-1984, Vol. 1. This is the first volume in a planned series of 6 CDs presenting the best, rarest and most exciting songs from the colorful history of Bollywood music, most of which are still gathering dust in Indian vaults and are unknown to the Western public. Bombay Connection Vol. 1: Funk from Bollywood Action Thrillers 1977-1984 showcases the sound of the Indian action film of the late '70s and early '80s. Under the influence of films like Shaft and Dirty Harry, a new kind of Indian action film came into being in 1970s India. To match the loud fights and fast chases, Indian composers developed an exciting brand of Bollywood funk. Wah-wah guitars, congas and funky Moogs were effortlessly blended with tablas, dhols and Indian melody lines. This album compiles 13 of the best, incredibly original Bollywood funk grooves, painting scenes of frantic chases through the back streets of Bombay, sexy seductive dances by female spies and secret plots conceived in subterranean headquarters by fake-moustached villains. The series is compiled by Bollywood connoisseur, researcher and top collector Edo Bouman, who carefully selected the songs, assuring that each of these tracks is an ear-tantalizing gem, compiled into an enjoyable, consistent listening experience. The Bombay Connection series will cover a multitude of exciting genres from the 1950s to the late '80s, including Bollywood horror, hippie psychedelics, spy flick suspense music, and stomping 1980s Indian disco. The 6-panel digipack comes with a colorful 30-page booklet containing well-researched info and a wealth of pictures. For the very first time, extensive research has been done into the history of Bollywood film music: interviews with composers and musicians have been conducted, and Bombay Connection has spared no energy or expense to locate the original stills and posters of the films. This is also the first Bollywood compilation CD to feature the Hindi song lyrics and English translations. Thus the booklet provides a wealth of information and pictures, sketching the original context in which these songs were made and enjoyed

The nightclub scene was a welcome excuse to show some sexy dancing and inject some exciting jazz and rock'n'roll sounds into the otherwise very prudish Bollywood films. Whiskey, cigarette smoke and stockings... accompanied by wild jazzy dance sounds, Indian style! The Indian orchestras effortlessly blended the classic Indian film sound with popular Western dance music into an extremely energetic, bouncy and infectious Bollywood mix. This volume features both classic nightclub tunes like "Jan Pahechan Ho," the famous surf rocker from Gumnaam and "1,2,3 Baby" from Kismat as well as extremely rare songs like the Beatlesesque "Pretty Pretty Priya" as well as the scorching title music to Bluff Master and the bongo killer madness of the track from Kala Bazar. Lavishly packaged and lovingly compiled from the best available masters of this rare material.

BRIDGE 61 Journal Atavistic US CD $14.99

Given the logistical hiatus that Spaceways Inc. has found itself occupying, Ken Vandermark was seeking to create another mode of expression for those groove-centric hunks of sound. Ergo: the birth of Bridge 61, featuring KV, Spaceways Inc. bassist Nate McBride, V5/SIA trapman Tim Daisy, and newcomer Jason Stein on bass clarinet. Utilizing its existing histories as a source for new potential in musical exploration, the combination of instruments at Bridge 61's disposal allows them to utilize a startling range of sound and tactics with the material, easily moving from the character of an austere chamber ensemble to that of radical electric noise - or to a kinetic energy hymn in any given set during a performance. Most importantly, the band makes the connection between these varied aesthetics, giving them a formal sense & structure. With tunes crafted by these stalwarts, and dedications toThis Heat, Jackson Pollock & Sonny Sharrock - how can Bridge 61 miss

BROTZMANN, PETER Pica Pica Atavistic US CD $14.99

Recorded 9/18/82, a reissue of FMP 1050. "A sweet period piece from the FMP Archive, on Atavistic's Unheard Music Series - featuring Brotz, Albert Mangelsdorff & Gunter 'Baby' Sommer." Excerpted from Brotzmann's liner notes: "I remember at one period when Han Bennink couldn't make the gigs - he was playing with Misha most of the time - Albert and I had a trio with Fred Van Hove, and we used to play in a little bar in Cologne which was run by the son of Paffgen brewery, a famous little brewery where Kolsch is brewed. It was equipped with an upright piano and a 20-liter barrel of fresh beer, which was empty after the gig. Albert's generosity and open-mindedness, compared to many other jazz musicians in the period, was remarkable. When he started working with crazy Brotzmann and Bennink, some of his colleagues gave him a very hard time. But I think he profited from our work the same way we did from his experience and musicality." - Peter Brotzmann, Chicago, October 2005.
BUCKLEY, TIM Happy Sad 4 Men With Beards US LP $17.99

One of the best albums of the late '60s and Tim Buckley's most underrated album, Happy Sad was a change-up pitch for the eclectic L.A. singer/songwriter. Sounding like a bit like Fred Neil's Capitol-era albums, Buckley and his small, acoustic-based ensemble create beautiful, jazz tinged folk-rock
BULL, SANDY Still Valentine's Day 1969 wATER us cd $15.99

Much needed archival Sandy Bull release, recorded on the same night as Water's John Fahey set (The Great Santa Barbara Oil Slick, in 1969. Elegant packaging, with great liner notes from Byron Coley and booklet photography from Baron Wolman. Bull was one of the most seminal string instrumentalists of the past 50 years, but you can still tally his entire discography on less than 2 full hands (and the most imporant albums -- E Pluribus Unum, Fantasias, Inventions -- fucking Vanguard can't even be bothered to keep in print!) -- so any addition is something to behold. "Sandy Bull is known for some of the first extended instrumental compositions for guitar that incorporated elements of folk, jazz, and Indian and Arabic-influenced dronish modes. This album, taken from two nights of performances in February 1969 recorded at San Francisco's legendary Matrix, finds Bull experimenting with guitar electronics, as well as working out on the acoustic instruments that were the mainstay of his Vanguard Records Fantasias and Inventions albums. Deluxe packaging features rare photos and detailed liner notes.

CABINENT CLASSICS 2 Various Plus 8 Canadian 2xCD $21.99

"Broadcasting timeless, route one techno from the heart of Berlin since 1996, Cabinet records has come to epitomize the rough underground sound of a city like few others. Now, with this excellent compilation package, Plus 8 has seen fit to set this essential contribution to electronic dance music in stone, in three different formats. Back in the days, the Plus 8-affiliated IntelliNET Distribution pressed and distributed the very first Cabinet releases to the world. Ten years later, Richie Hawtin's relentless search for the perfect beat still leads him back to the rare Cabinet archive for inspiration, quality and pure expression of the form. When you listen to this distinctive, stripped-down sound, forged by label founder Daniel Paul, DJ Zky and DJ Trike among others, it's clear to see why. Not only do their productions contain explosive energy and a generous helping of phuture funk, but there's also a spontaneous, live vibe captured here. The tracks evolve effortlessly, with each new idea reaching its logical conclusion through a mesh of 909 beats, warm analog bass lines and feverish hi-hat patterns - a knack that's all too conspicuous by its absence nowadays. The package appears either as a double CD or two 12"" double pack formats (offered in the ""Vinyl Versions"" section of this catalog), the first focusing on the early years with classics from Compass and Cab Drivers, like the acid-tinged ""Gliding"" and the infectious shuffle and bass groove of ""Elwico."" The second contains a selection of unreleased gems like Horseshoe's freakin' 303-inspired ""Bassfunk"" and the tribal drift of Cab Drivers' ""Selbstauslöser."" The second vinyl release and double CD delves further into the Cabinet back catalog, creating an irresistible 21-track salute to Berlin techno - simply speaking, it's a must for the purist. To the uninitiated, it's the chance to finally pin down some of those anonymous moments that so often wash over the dancefloor, familiar yet always out of reach - when the warmth of the human spirit melts the cold shell of technology and momentarily makes perfect sense of everything past, present and future. Also includes ONS Project, Todd Bodine and Karo Zwo. "
CAMBERWELL NOW All's Well UK CD $18.99

The complete works of this post-This Heat band featuring Charles Hayward, recorded 1982-1986. Featuring these original releases: Meridian, The Ghost Trade & Greenfingers LP/EPs. "This definitive edition collects the entire released output of Camberwell Now (two EPs and an LP), newly re-mastered by the band and repackaged with full notes, lyrics, additional photographs and artwork. Chronologically, Camberwell Now immediately succeeded This Heat, Charles Hayward continuing to work with This Heat's last bassist Trefor Goronwy, and the two of them joining forces with Stephen Rickard who, for the new band, designed his unique 'cassette switchboard,' a kind of proto-sampler - though that's not the half of it (Steve's article fully explaining the device is reprinted in the new, expanded booklet that comes with the CD). Musically, Camberwell both followed and departed from the style of This Heat. Formally and gesturally there are common elements, but there is far greater transparency and the sound palette is quite different: the music is more placed than grown, as the slow accumulation and evolution of material in This Heat gives way to a more immediate and orderly development of the material in Camberwell Now. The songs - nostalgic, scary, and quietly desperate - peer into the future to find harbour but confront only fragments of ruin.

CANTERBURY MUSIC FESTIVAL Rain & Shine Rev Ola UK CD $17.99

If you are looking for ultra-rare soft pop, you've come to the right place! Only 150 copies were pressed (in order to establish copyright) of The Canterbury Music Festival's 1968 album, Rain & Shine, an almost willfully secret psych-pop masterpiece of sorts on the obscure and collectable BT Puppy label out of New York City, owned by the legendary Tokens, and the source of many rarities from The Canterbury Music Festival to the Brute Force classic 'The King Of Fuh' (licensed to Apple Records in the UK, becoming their rarest single when immediately banned by the BBC). In addition to the many hits associated with the Tokens, baroque and breezy psych-pop a lá Left Banke, Association and Blades Of Grass is the order of the day here, with songs by The Tokens and the enigmatic Steven 'Brute Force' Friedland, this is a great addition to the Revola roster of scarily collectable artists in this genre
CANTILO, MIGUEL GROUP Sur Guerssen Spain LP $25.99

Argentinian Miguel Cantilo joined a hippie commune in the fall of 1972. There he wrote many songs together with Kubero Diaz (La Cofradia de la Flor Solar), incredible hard-psychedelia and a slight folk flavour at times. This is an absolute must for any psychedelic rock fan with overwhelming dual guitar, and no doubt it's one of the best Argentinian records of the '70s. This is its first vinyl reissue ever and the sound has been taken from original mastertapes resulting in a much better sound than the original! It's limited to 500 copies and comes with the gorgeous original gatefold cover.

CHATEAU FLIGHT Les Vampires Versatile French CD $16.99

Chateau Flight is Parisian house duo Gilbert Cohen and Nicolas Chaix (aka Gilb'r and I:Cube). Chateau Flight is the latest electronic act to soundtrack for silent movies, and they have composed a score specially written for Les Vampires (1915), a sulfurous feuilleton of 10 episodes by French director Louis Feuillade. Les Vampires was close to being banned for its quasi-apology of criminals, who are presented a lot more seductively than the "good force," which is primarily due to the magnificent Irma Vep (incarnated by the actress Musidora, dressed in black and the first vamp and femme fatale in the history of cinema!). Being first and foremost criticized despite its great public success, the series, packed with its quasi-improvs and its dark poetry, is considered one of the most unique and sophisticated pieces of silent film. This CD features eight tracks, all untitled, varying and placing itself somewhere at the border of electronic music, original soundtrack and Krautrock/experimental stuff. In Spring 2006, Gaumont asked Chateau Flight to do a 40-minute soundtrack illustrating the third episode of Les Vampires, "Le Cryptogramme Rouge," for their luxurious DVD Special Edition. The duo decided to work with a computer and a Viscount Orgue (known for its vintage sound), among other multiple effects. After a week of spotting and experimenting, where the duo called upon the phantoms of the Pere Lachaise cemetery which is close to the studio, the two artists had doubts about their results and invited guitarist Nicolas Villebrun (of the band Poni Hoax) who brought in some more dramatic textures and the missing touch of improvisation. The phantasmagorical and pre-surrealism of Feuillade is omnipresent on this release, a long odyssey of combining and handling vintage and contemporary technology in constant variation.
CHATHAM, RHYS Angel Moves To Fast TOTE US CD $16.99

"By the late 1980s, Rhys Chatham was chafing against the logistical and financial constraints imposed upon him in the States; in his mind was a vast, unprecedented sound. Moving permanently from New York to Paris, Chatham began composing his masterpiece, a piece for one hundred electric guitars, electric bass and drums. The result, An Angel Moves Too Fast to See, is one of the most extraordinary works in the minimalist canon, one that demonstrates the majesty inherent in Chatham's amplified imagination. Now widely available for the first time, this lavish CD presents this sonic revolution in all its glory, and cements Chatham's reputation as a monolithic figure astride both rock and classical musics. "
CHATHAM, RHYS Die Donnergotter TOTE US CD $16.99

"Rhys Chatham altered the DNA of rock. The New York-born composer began as a classically-trained prodigy, but by 1975, Chatham was fusing the overtone-drenched minimalism of John Cale and Tony Conrad with the relentless, elemental fury of the Ramones. It was an inspired amalgamation -- the textural intricacies of the avant-garde colliding with the visceral punch of electric guitar-slinging punk rock -- and with it Chatham created a new type of urban music. Raucous and ecstatic, this sound energized the downtown New York scene throughout the late 1970s and early 1980s, prefigured the No Wave movement and cast a huge influence over the subsequent work of Chatham's many protegees, including Glenn Branca and future members of Sonic Youth. This release contains all of Chatham's best work of the period, from the notorious 'Guitar Trio' (1977) and the tumultuous, brass-based 'Massacre on MacDougal Street' (1982), to the soaring, euphoric masterpiece, 'Die Donnergotter' (1986). The accompanying 32-page book features rare photos plus essays by Chatham, Tony Conrad and Sonic Youth's Lee Ranaldo, as well as artwork by famed visual artist Robert Longo. Now widely available for the first time, these tracks vividly document those glorious years in the life of a city and a milieu in which the raw, the sophisticated and the danceable merged, and a new era of rock was born."""

CIRCLE Milijard Ektro UK 2CD $24.99

"2 cds absolutely bursting w/ minimal chilly Finnish soundscapes. Yes you heard me right, the kings of the new wave of Finnish heavy metal have thrown down their guitars, kicked aside their Krautrock leanings & picked up the piano to sculpt out a series of horizontally leaning & deeply pensive pieces closer to say Willam Basinski or Deaf Center than Neu! or Can. A bold, intense statement from one of the world’s most interesting acts. It seems like they can master every style they approach so here’s to another 20 ys. Incredible. LIMITED"
CIRCLE Tower Last Visible Dog US CD $13.99

It should surprise no one that this is yet another new sound for Circle, and I think one that most of us will happily welcome. Although still bearing the moniker 'New wave of Finnish heavy metal,' this one definitely bares more relationship to In a Silent Way than Aces High. No sign of vocals at all, just chilled-out grooves that still have Prospekt at their core (though perhaps their exterior is more like a heavily-sedated Soft Machine?) The line-up is the current core of Circle + Mika Rintala (Verde) so he is listed here as special guest super-star. Like everyone else, I've scratched my head a bit at all the new directions that Circle has tried in the past 5 years, but here I think they've really hit on something brilliant. I don't know a lot of people who would leap at picking up a new fusion album, but Circle has reinvented it in a way that no one other than Circle could pull off. What do we end up with then? A perfectly accessible album that still pulls off the insatiable/addictive pulse of Prospekt.
CLIQUE Sugar On Sunday: The Definitive Collection UK CD $17.99

Also features songs written by Smokey Roberds of the Parade (who had a hit with 1967's 'Sunshine Girl'), Tommy James (who also produces some of the bonus tracks), and Mr. Zekley himself. If this isn't enough, the album - originally released during the final hours of the White Whale label in 1970 - also features the Top 20 smash, the Tommy James-penned 'Sugar On Sunday'.

COLLEY, JOE Waste Of Songs Oral Canada CD $17.99

Joe Colley offers a series of events jumping between brutal noise, field recording, and (fake?) psychoacoustic tonal interactions. The result is a tightly edited collage journey through states of mental duress and negative reactions to an environment. There are sounds of broken or dying equipment, devices pushed to limits, attempts to coax out spontaneous reactions from feedback and linked cheap electronics. A strong statement, and an evolution showing the next direction of his desire to reach emotional states through the coldness of electronic sound. Joe Colley (b.1972 Ft. Lauderdale) is a self-taught artist concerned primarily with the phenomena of sound and its unique ability to activate a consciousness set apart from rational understanding in a way very different from visual or verbal means. This consuming interest has led to extensive experimentation with results occasionally made public through performances, installations, and commercially available recordings. These experiments have encompassed abstract electronic/noise composition, amplification of natural phenomena, investigations into phase, and creation of complex mass from layers of simplistic sound material, often with an attention to the mundane or pathetic.

"""It’s about my desperate attempt to lose myself in a candy-colored fantasyland of freaks & fairies. It’s an urge that I think lots of us share, especially these days as the real world is getting increasingly grim. The album starts w/ an 8-min epic w/ strings, a choir singing in Latin, a blinding, atonal guitar solo & birds singing before the dawn. There are psychedelic interludes & instrumental passages between more conventional 'pop' songs & the album ends w/ a triumphant/tragic piano ballad,"" says Bobby. Feat. CONTRIVA Separate Chambers Morr German CD $16.99

CONTRIVA Separate Chambers Morr German LP $16.99

"Contriva can be imagined as four friends on their way from the past to the future and each of them a songwriter and an equal part of Separate Chambers. Four people and their instruments and the space that connects them. With small-big songs, always closer to a pop-song than to instrumental concept music and, at the end of the day, everything is melody. The hymnal moments when violin and organ get elegiac. Then again, the wide view to the horizon when two guitar figures interweave. The bass spreads the contours, precisely, unpretentiously. "

CUTLER, CHRIS There And Back Again Memory UK CD $18.99

Like its companion Twice around the Earth, There and Back Again is derived from a selection of the 365 location recordings made for Cutler's daily Resonance FM radio program, 'Out of the Blue Radio' (2004-2005). It takes extracts from 44 of these environmental recordings to explore - amongst other things - the way memory works, and how the experience of passing time is constructed. That's subtext. More important, it should make enjoyably complex listening: surprising, serendipitous, mundane but alien - the commonplace transfigured.

DARKEL S/T Astralwerks US CD $17.99

Following the tremendous commercial and critical acclaim of Air's 2004 album Talkie Walkie, instrumentalist JB Dunckel took some time away from the group setting and started writing purely for himself as an experiment. Recorded and mixed entirely at his own studio, these ten songs that make up his first solo album shine through with the sparklingly rich musicality that JB has demonstrated consistently throughout his 10-year tenure with Air. From the George Harrison-esque 'At The End Of The Sky' to the dubby trip-hop of 'Earth,' to the bratty lo-fi pop of 'TV Destroy,' these songs are at once sentimental, humorous and philosophical ruminations on love, family and the environment, sung with the same sweetly disarming grace that characterized Air's hit single 'Sexy Boy.' This is a musical detour that will temporarily satisfy any Air fan's craving for new material.

"If you’re not familiar w/ these guys, ask yourself this: Where the hell have I been? They’ve basically injected grind & all manners of extreme heaviness w/ a much needed dose of lube, style, & danger. This record sounds amazing. They've annihilated ear drums & impregnated teenage girls w/ the likes of The Locust, The Dillinger Escape Plan & An Albatross. Avant-garde prodigies KAYO DOT guest on this album, as if they didn’t already sound like the looniest combination of guitar heroism, circus intermission music, & the bottled sweat, musk, & bravado of the Birthday Party"

"yes, that is the muppet song you all know The Dave Pell Singers album is highly prized, top class lounge/harmony sunshine pop. What the Japanese call Soft Rock. Originally issued in 1969, It's many highlights include a breezy version of Piero Umiliani's Mah-Na, Mah-Na and a cool, sensuous performance of the title tune from the controversial musical, 'Oh, Calcutta.' With this release Dave Pell can now take his rightful place amongst the giants of lounge; Andy Williams, Roy Budd, Dudley Moore, Tony Hatch. Dave Pell's behind-the-scenes career may be more familiar to space age pop fans than his own accomplishments as a performer. Head of A&R at United Artists and Liberty Records in the sixties Pell produced well-known albums by Martin Denny, The Ventures, Shirley Bassey and Bobby Vee."""

DEUTSCH, ANDREW Loops Over Land Divine Frequency US CD $14.99

Loops Over Land consists of about 50 min. of loops produced using an analog reel-to-reel tape deck and an analog tape delay system (provided by Neil Rolnick). The loops were constructed using random 'scissors clips' of Mahler's 5th Symphony and thus reflect the pastoral feel of his original composition. Some of what sound like drum beats in the loops are actually sloppy splices bathed in reverb. Production of the loops happened over the course of 2 days while I was confined to my apartment dodging an enormous snow storm. During these days of looping and confinement, I listened as deeply as possible to the sounds and envisioned large circular loops of light slowly turning over the landscape. The landscapes themselves were of lush green fields and hills dripping in recent rain while the loops shimmered gold each holding their own shape. Loops Over Land continues what I have been calling since 1987 'image drones.' Image drones are drones that are meant to evoke a very specific image for the listener. I also consider these recordings to reflect my interest in 'romantic structuralism,' a term coined by filmmaker Ken Jacobs." -Andrew Deutsch
DIE WELTTRAUMFORSCHER 21 Staubgold German CD $15.99

2CD release, for the price of one. "First things first: Staubgold are immensely proud to present this cooperation with one of Europe's most enduring avant garde pop groups ever. Since their formation in Zurich in 1978, the Welttraumforscher's music has been moving to and fro in a field marked by the cornerstones of the classic pop song as epitomized by Burt Bacharach or Simon and Garfunkel, the emotional barrenness of Nick Drake's compositions, the escapism of Syd Barrett and electronic home recording-miniatures of cinematic dimensions as [co-]developed by Der Plan and Cabaret Voltaire.
DILLOWAY, AARON Rotting Nepal Blossoming Noise US LP $18.99

"Recorded Jan. 2005 in Kirtipur, Nepal & originally released as a CD-R, edition of 63 on the Hanson records imprint. Totally weird recording from this ex-Wolf Eyes member. Limited to 500 copies on 140gram red marbled vinyl. "
DILLOWAY, AARON Beggar Master Hanson US CD $10.99

CD issue of first full-length LP by ex-Wolf Eyes member Aaron Dilloway. Recorded in Kirtipur, Nepal, March 2005. Tape manipulations, feedback, crude field recordings, & Nepali dirt. "Side 'Beggar Master' is like a video game of a brick wall chasing a 300 pound wobble legged mosquito. High feedback intercepted by sliding horizontal pile of bricks. Beating thud heart with some open holes in the side corresponding to sludge lake bug liberation. Whir and blur background mechanical swamp... If you've heard it all from the Christians how scary the sounds of hell will be, you can hear from Killoway's field recording how your garbage is being treated once it's putrid soul is released. Definitely a mood soundtrack for oblivionic conoise-suers.
DIRTY EDITS #4 Various Dirty French 12" $12.99

File Under: // extended disco unclassics, diskrautrock, deep folk, northern soul treasures, codeine disco, industrial balearic bonus beats, dirty diamonds. A1/ OCTET 'Euros vs dollars - Pilooski edit': new track, future classic for mental dancers. (Octet is a founding member of dirty sound system). A2/ FRANK VALLI & THE FOUR SEASONS 'Beggin - Pilooski edit': a northern soul classic less known than the timebox version. A rough, sweaty extended love song. A2/ CAT STEVENS: 'Was Dog a Doughnut - Pilooski edit': Do we really need to say something about this? Chick Corea is playing keys on this tune.
DOES / BREATH STONE Split CD EP Dark Holler US CD EP $5.49

"the does (as in female deer, pl.) play music that is dirty, dark, and hazy. Singer Carol Anne and guitar player Neddal were brought together by their shared love of sleaze, sloppy rock ‘n’ roll, and feedback. Originally, the idea was to sound “something like a cross between the Rolling Stones and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.” Things didn’t work out as planned. Carol couldn’t quite shake her goth background. (She refers to herself as a “recovering goth.” Neddal says there’s no such thing.) Neddal couldn’t quite get the sludge out of his system. They wrote some songs. They went into the studio. When they came out they had three songs that didn’t sound anything the songs they’d been rehearsing. On the way to the studio they’d shanghaied Carol’s band mate Jim (Carol and Jim play in Toronto’s Nice Cat. Check them out, they’re sludgilicious!) to sit in on drums. What started out as moody, minimal blues/punk ended up as a brooding, psychedelic, not-quite-so-minimal mix of Pussy Galore, ZZ Top, the Melvins, and My Bloody Valentine. Breathe Stone come with an impressive pedigree. Formed on October 31, 2002 by Mr. Timothy Renner, Breathe Stone is an extension of well-known acid/psych/wyrd-folks Stone Breath. Breathe Stone’s mandate is to take the dark, haunting, acoustic folk of Stone Breath in a more electric (literally), experimental direction. Timothy is joined on these recordings by his Stone Breath band mate Sarada, Alicia of Funeral, and guitarist RA Campbell. Using such instruments as electric banjo, slide banjo, glasstamboura, dumbek, and squeezebox, along with the electric guitar, Breathe Stone conjure images of crumbling farmhouses, empty glades, overgrown paths, and lonely silhouettes in the moonlight. "

DOWN IN THE BASEMENT Joe Bussard's Treasure Trove Old Hat US CD $17.99

New version, now in a jewel case with 28-page color booklet (maybe not quite as elaborate as before, but still an impressive package and all the music is the same; price is a bit lower). Subtitled: Joe Bussard's Treasure Trove of Vintage 78s (1926-1937). "Joe Bussard has been called the 'King of Record Collectors' and there's solid evidence to justify such a title. In the basement of his Maryland home is a vast treasure trove of American vernacular music first recorded by phonograph companies in the 1920s and '30s- old-time songs, hillbilly hoedowns, hot jazz, country blues, jug band music, sanctified singing, and a whole lot more. For over 50 years, Joe has pursued this music with a passion that borders on mania, building a world-class collection of 78 rpm records - more than 25,000 in all. With Joe's cooperation, we've carefully remastered 24 tracks of this rare music, representing the major genres in his collection. Included are classic performances by such colorful names as Seven-Foot Dilly, Gitfiddle Jim, The Grayson County Railsplitters, Fess Williams' Royal Flush Orchestra, Long Cleve Reed & Little Harvey Hull, The Grinnell Giggers, and many more. These recordings are not just historical relics, but vital and entertaining performances that have stood the test of time. Not everyone can actually visit Joe's archives, but Down In The Basement delivers the next best thing- a potent dose of this great American music
DREDD FOOLE Daze On The Mounts Family Vineyard US CD $14.99

The Foole, aka Dan Ireton, has finally come out and ended a near decade of silence and Daze on the Mounts, a spiraling three-dimensional crest of the so-called avant-folk expression, is the celebratory homecoming. Originally a limited 2004 CD-R, this reissue presents the colossal side for all. In collaboration with Matt Valentine and Erika Elder (MV&EE/Bummer Road and Tower Recordings), two of modern-time's purest interstellar travellers, Dredd Foole bounds between Tim Buckley-esque bellow and a hyper-extended take on the song form (a dewy mash of Ra-space and Vermont-lore) alongside environmental treatments (harmonica, synthesizer, percussion) and his own acoustic guitar work to fully transcend limitations. From the visceral '80s garage days with The Din to becoming a beacon for many a free folk explorer, the Foole remains a bona fide master of universal revelation

"An hour-long epic that applies his heartache-inducing ether to a symphony of strings, brass, keyboards & piano. Noticeably absent but hardly missed are the washes of guitars that color most of his previous material. The deliberate exclusion of traditional rock instrumentation serves as sufficient proof that the instrument is not his driving force"
ERASE ERRATA Nightlife KRS US CD $14.99

"All their changes & efforts are well evidenced on these 12 tracks of polished chaos. Since their inception 6 years ago, the band has always been hailed as a visceral fury; now, the band’s sound is as powerful & unhinged a ever, though now much more cogent on all fronts. The album was largely self recorded, produced & mixed by the band along w/ Chris Woodhouse (A-Frames, Coachwhips) & Eli Crews. It’s standard artist bio hyperbole to insist that a band defies convention, & is pure, inspiring & original –fortunately for Erase Errata, it’s the truth."

FAY, BILL GROUP Tomorrow Drag City US LP $16.99

The Durtro Jnana CD release in early 2005 added a new chapter to the Bill Fay legend. And now comes another addendum: the LP release of Tomorrow Tomorrow and Tomorrow features a new mastering of the material, a remix of 'Planet Earth, Daytime' extending the song's length, and the inclusion of three tracks not on the CD ('Change Is Near,' 'Pear Tree' and 'My Friend') in place of a montage of songs (tracks 6-14 from the CD). This is a sequence that better serves the album format and provides a fresh listening perspective for those among us who've worn out their CD copies already. Additionally, Bill Fay has written extensive notes for inclusion in this new package, illuminating the period in which the album was written and the intentions with which it was undertaken. Tomorrow Tomorrow and Tomorrow was recorded in 1978-1981 but remained unreleased until 2005. The Tomorrow Tomorrow and Tomorrow LP is slightly resequenced and ten minutes shorter than the CD, a move that clarifies the scope and curve of the album.
FEHLMANN, THOMAS Emo Pack Kompakt German 12" $8.99

"This is the first Thomas Fehlmann solo record after the atomic The Orb full length. On Emo Pack, he strikes dancer's hearts with his laser and scalpel in hand. ""The Road"" is the first schaffel track to be found on Kompakt in a very long time. ""Powdered"" is a very fat and massively produced stomper in the signature Fehlmann style. The B-side sets off with ""Dusted,"" an almost ska-ish off-beat track which evolves into Fehlmann's familiar dub. The final track ""Pristine"" goes right into dancefloor overdrive. And try and guess what the artwork is... you never will. "
FE-MAIL & CARLOS GIFFONI Northern Stains Important US CD $14.99

"Individually & together, Carlos Giffoni & Fe-Mail make records that are rich, detailed, dense & complex, constantly straddling the line between improvised noise & modern composition. It's this attention to detail & warmth that make Fe-Mail & Carlos Giffoni such celebrated artists & kindred collaborators. Northern Stains is often absurd combination of live sounds, feedback, hilarious sampling with a genuine sentimental touch, which nods towards both the northern glaciers and the beauty & brutality of nature"
FENNEZS Endless Summer Editions Mego Belgian CD $16.99

"8 songs of sublime texture, solid melodies intertwined over vast valleys of digital sound. 'Endless Summer's geographic location is where analogue & digital worlds meet, however this is no battle or pointless pro/contra argument, but the perfect balance. A balance that many strive for but rarely reach. Possibly the first album of the 21st century which can be called 'classic'. His most accomplished work to date"

FM3 + DOU WEI Hou Guan Yin Lona Hong Kong CD $16.99

While the sonic appearance of FM3 + Dou Wei is apparently Western in nature, the poetic thoughts and emotions that flow through their sounds show a deep appreciation of Eastern thinking and sensibility. It is like a group of avant-garde musicians, meditating on the classic Chinese ink painting or an abstract expressionist painting, translating ancient Eastern philosophy into landscapes and free-form brush strokes. The most impressive part of Hou Guan Yin is the chemical interaction between FM3 and Dou Wei. FM3 with their microsound gestures trigger the ambient undercurrent of Dou Wei's drumming and turn it into a new pulsating energy; Dou Wei at the same time reveals the hidden motions and shifting patterns in FM3's ambience. The result is a unique poetic beauty that lies within the rhizomatic presentation and interaction of their sounds and instrumentations.

FREE SPIRITS Out Of Sight Sunbeam UK CD $16.99

Way ahead of its time, The Free Spirits' radical 1967 album Out of Sight and Sound has never previously been available on CD. Co-founded by the young and future jazz-rock guitar legend Larry Coryell, who made his recording debut here, the band was only together briefly but dazzled all who heard them (including Jimi Hendrix, The Doors and The Velvet Underground) with their revolutionary brand of psychedelic jazz-rock. One highlight includes "Blue Water Mother," a song which employs the oft-unheard sound of two separate vocal tracks singing two entirely separate sets of lyrics. One of the first fusions of jazz and rock, this early experiment in sound will appeal to fans of straight-up heavy '60s jams as well. This package comes complete with a rare non-LP bonus track, as well as previously unseen photos and detailed liner notes by Richie Unterberger.

FULLERTON-WHITMAN, KEITH Track 4 ERM UK CD $16.99

"""Over the past few years, Keith Fullerton Whitman has been responsible for producing some of the most engaging electronic music to emerge from the United States. Informed by traditional musique concrete as much as contemporary DSP, his work remains provocative without relying on overt actions or grandiose sonic statements. A bass heavy journey through processed guitar and electronics -- a refined statement of intent from one of the USA's finest. From Keith Whitman: 'Here's a 10:32 piece from 2002, re-worked, turned into a 21:04 piece in late 2005, released in spring of 2006 to correspond with my second Australian tour. Much like 'track3a (2waynice),' (the first piece on the Playthroughs album), this piece is entirely bi-directional, meaning that it plays the same forwards as backwards (just try to get your head around that...) by far the most woofer-rattling piece of music I've ever made.'"" "
FUSHITSUSHA Live PSF Japanese DVD $27.99

"NTSC region free DVD. ""26th September 1991 saw a titanic showdown at the Shibuya La Mama club in Tokyo. Keiji Haino's tumultuous Fushitsusha brought their epochal de/re-construction of rock to ringside to tussle it out with John Zorn's international hardcore skronk trio Pain Killer. The night was being documented for a Pain Killer live album (released as Rituals), which meant that Fushitsusha got to benefit from an unusually high-quality recording. Previously available as a PSF video, but out of print for the last few years on that unwieldy medium, this is the document of Fushitsusha's jaw-dropping set that night -- and still the only official Fushitsusha visuals available. A digest-sized version of everything that is great about the group, somehow squeezing the Grand Canyon breadth and depth of Haino's ambition into a far shorter set than they usually play. Raining down like manna from heaven for the converted, 53 minutes worth of prime Fushitsusha live, loud and leveling. What more do you need to know?"
GAISER Neural Block Minus Canadian 12" $7.99

Gaiser ups the ante with his second Minus EP. Following on his And Answer EP, Jon Gaiser cements his growing reputation with another finely-crafted selection of tunes, demonstrating a deep understanding of the intimate mechanics required for minimalist sound sculpture. "Neural Block" employs a subtle use of reverse snares, scuttling percussive bleeps and subliminal samples, while "Half Life," with its séance-like voices and liquid grooves, swells to the maximum. Then there's the nocturnal landscape of "Seepage," complete with sliding delays that slowly space out before giving way to moody synth-pulses and a rocking metallic snare solo.

GILBERTO & WALTER WANDERLEY, ASTRUD A Certain Smile Rev Ola UK CD $17.99

Is there any need for an introduction to Astrud Gilberto, The Girl From Ipanema, who brought the nonchalant 'vaga' vocal style of the Brazilian new wave to international attention and launched a thousand indie-girl records and fantasies in a time and place she never imagined.... I think not. As we present her finest album, a collaboration with the space age, Jetsons-go-bossa sound of the immortal Walter Wanderley, Brazil's finest organist/arranger and his excellent trio, augmented by American friend percussionist Bobby Rosengarden (of Miles Davis fame) and bossa nova master Jočo Gilberto on guitar, this is as close as we are going to get to a totally perfect album! The wonderfully erotic vaga stylings of the timeless Astrud whisper from the sci-fi bachelor party soundscapes and unique arrangements of Walter Wanderley in a way that either grabs your heart, or quite frankly, you are dead in the water.

GOLDING INSTITUTE Final Relaxation Ipecac US CD $13.99

Stomach-turning medical tones and a horrible narration take the listener through a series of visualization and breathing techniques that shut down the body's organs one by one...until the subject is finally dead. Recorded overseas under the steady hand of producers Gregg Turkington (Zip Code Rapists, Neil Hamburger, Great Phone Calls), and Brendan Walls (Sydney-based damaged electronics expert), The Golding Institute's vision for a better life through ending it is wonderfully realized. A genuine conversation piece, and a sure-fire seller to fans of recorded spoken word/comedy albums, hipsters looking to liven up a party, and of course, to those troubled souls who are sincerely seeking a unique and relatively pain-free technique with which to leave this disappointing world. The most unusual album ever sold!
GRAILS Black Tar Prophecies Important US CD $14.99

The Black Tar Prophecies is a massive evolutionary step in the established Grails sound and it is shrouded in change and pain. The somewhat clinical studio sound and recording style which has established them a tremendous following has been replaced with a much more free and conceptual recording style. This method liberated the group in the studio and these recordings feel much more open, heavy and for lack of a better term, 'psychedelic.' We're not talking about the cliché co-opted psychedelic fashion, but psychedelia as a reckless embrace of new states of mind and possibilities

GROUP DOUEH Guitar Music from the Western Sahara Sublime Frequencies US 2xLP $25.99

" If you think you've heard all the great electric guitar styles in the world, think again. This Saharan sand-blizzard of fine-crushed glass will grind your face to a bloody pulp. Group Doueh play raw and unfiltered Saharawi music from the former colonial Spanish outpost of the Western Sahara. Doueh (pronounced ""Doo-way"") is their leader and a master of the electric guitar. He's been performing since he was a child playing in many groups before finally creating his own in the 1980s. Doueh says he's influenced by Western pop and rock music especially Jimi Hendrix and James Brown. His sound is distorted, loud and unhinged with an impressive display of virtuosity and style only known in this part of the world. His wife Halima and friend Bashiri are the two vocalists in the group. Sahrawi songs are from the sung poetry of the Hassania language. The music is based on the same modal structure as Mauritanian music, however, Doueh's style is a looser appropriation infused with a Western guitar scope, one that relies, in his words, as much on Hendrix as it does traditional Sahrawi music. It also adds a playful pop element that rarely filters through in this region. Doueh has turned down countless offers from Morocco and Europe to release his music but he decided to offer us access to his homemade recordings and photo archive for this amazing debut LP. This is a one-time pressing of 1000 copies, the first Sublime Frequencies vinyl release; only released on the vinyl format, no CD is planned. Pressed on 180 gram vinyl and comes in a gatefold full color jacket stocked with great photos of the musicians and liner notes by Hisham Mayet. "

"Robert Hampson, is, of course, the visionary behind sound behemoths LOOP & MAIN, and even served a highly productive position within GODFLESH, ORGANUM, and also collaborated with JIM O' ROURKE.These recordings are filled with the active and excited ghost of interaction with material; highly unreal at times, and undeniably human at others. The collaboration of two people who know exactly what they are doing, and have created an even more powerful joined effort. Clearly tasty. Released in an edition of 500, packaged in mulitple layers of clear material"
HAND EYE Various Dark Holler US 2xCD $15.99

"The Hand/Eye label has been bringing the world modern experimental-folk and psychedelic music since the early 1990s. HARMONIA Musik Von Lilith Russian LP $18.99

LP version, gatefold sleeve; CD FORTHCOMING. "Once called 'the world's most important rock group' by Brian Eno, legendary minimalist avant-garde band Harmonia was formed in the early seventies by Michael Rother of Neu! and Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius of Cluster. Although this supergroup produced only two studio albums - 1974's Musik von Harmonia and 1975's De luxe - they were very influential and perfectly embodied the Krautrock ideal. While leaning slightly towards Cluster's ambient sound, they were also entirely their own entity - a jet engine running clean and precise but also spouting asphyxiating aural exhaust.

HEAVY BREATHING VOL 1 Various Normal German CD $17.99

Subtitled: Greasy Listening, Exotica, Obscure Beats, Curious Sextronica. Ladies & gentlemen, we present to you Volume 1 of a 4-volume series of passionate groaning, noisy hyperventilation and orgiastic screaming - this is the musical credo behind HEAVYbreathing - The Sounds Of Sex. Compilations of erotic songs with sexy album covers are nothing new - but HEAVYbreathing is something else! There's never been a sampler like this wide-ranging cross-genre collection of songs old and new that really center on the sounds of sexual arousal and ecstasy as a musical element. The story of heavy breathing in pop music didn't begin in 1969 with "Je T'aime... Moi Non Plus," Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg's song that caused one of the biggest ever music scandals. This coitus musicalus met with a wave of official outrage and radio play bans worldwide, and as such was a worldwide mega-hit. Looking back, there have been lots of other songs that dared to combine brazen eroticism and pop. There might not be a collective name for hot and steamy songs from every genre, but there are some collectors. Like IntimDJ Cpt. Schneider from Munich, who over the last seven years, and with plenty of support from helpers at home and abroad, has built up a wide-ranging collection of ecstatic songs which now runs to more than sixty hours of music. Between the many hits and flops and hidden treasures he's unearthed, there are tracks that are absolutely incredible, weird and obscurely bizarre. Whether it's blues, techno, house, disco, soul, easy listening, downbeat, new wave, rhythm & blues, reggae, electronica, italo-house, exotica, rockabilly, funk, hip-hop, jazz, or prog-rock, the list goes on and on - because lust has no musical blinkers and will engage with any genre. For copyright reasons this compilation has had to omit the occasional heavy-breathing classic. But, covering a huge period (from 1951 to 2006), this gold-digging expedition in the world of pop has more than made up for the absence of a Gainsbourg & Birkin, Donna Summer, Lil' Louis or Prince by sifting out many an exclusive nugget of horny-phonics. Artists on volume 1 include: Line Renaud, Jean Seberg, Haruomi Hosono, Chaino and his African Percussion Safari, Tender, Joy Bamgbola, Rare Earth, Fab, SiRenée, Rita, Suzie Seacell, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, The Groovers, John & Jackie, White Noise, Orchester Albert van Dam, Erotica, Lotte & Leherb and Sensuously SINthesized.

HEAVY METAL PARKING LOT Remastered with bonus footage Factory 515 US DVD $19.99

"WHAT WE HAVE HERE is perhaps the best thing EVER on video as regards to any ""rock"", ""rock music"", ""heavy metal"", or whatever kinda SPINAL-TAP-becomes-real- life kinda fantasy world you'd wanna ever imagine!! THIS IS REAL, not scripted: two guys in the parking lot of a 1986 Judas Priest concert, interviewing the kids waiting to get into the show.. Abbasolutely hi-larious!! LOTS of DVD bonus material! Omigawd, they tracked down the dude in the zebra stiped outfit with the three belts on! Would ya believe that's he's been entirely clueless all this time as to his legendary status??! And the girl who really liked Dokken, she still does!! Plus there's directors' commentaries, much media coverage on the original film as well as the demolition of the venue in Maryland and lots more! My favorite is when ya click on yer ""angle"" button and the picture changes to that of a 10th- generation VHS dub which of course is highly appropriate as that's how most folks first saw this. AND IF YOU HAVEN'T THEN YOU NEED TO SEE THIS, TRUST ME IT'S AN AMAZING DOCUMENT ON WASTED YOUTH AND/OR TEENAGED AMERICAN METAL SUBCULTURE OF THE MID-1980's!! This DVD has been hard to track down until now, so don't be shy 'cuz we have a ton of 'em. simply cannot be possible to give any greater recommendation!!"
HECKER, TIM Harmony In Ultraviolet Kranky US CD $14.99

once or twice a year I will recommend a dis cot everyone on the list, and this is one of those times. This tim hecker is an amzing thing, full of dark and ominous sounds, yet beautiful and fantastical. Just buy it - you'll be glad you did! Official write up - Harmony in Ultraviolet is Tim Hecker's sixth album. It is a continuation of Hecker's interest in spectral communications, noise, impressionist musics, thresholds of listening pleasure/pain, and the limits of digital composition. This album is a significant development of his song-craft, challenging the usefulness of descriptors such as ambient, drone, metal, noise and even electronic music. If references are necessary it could be described as a sonata for the elements, songs of crackling embers, tidal pools, spruce skylines and autumn winds. Gerhard Richter's abstract paintings are also a fair orientation. Materially speaking, it is a record of whirring drones, whispering fissures, dense disintegrating chords, late-night noise and truth-telling harmonics. Yet this record follows no overarching process, no underlying narrative. It is both a homage for the Italian partigiani and also not at all. It is songs about ghost writing and midnight whispers but then again it isn't.
HECKER, TIM Radio Amor Alien 8 Canadian CD $13.99

"Originally released on Mille Plateaux in 2002 & has been out of print for 2 years. A key release in Hecker's discography, bridging his output between 2001 & 2004. A brilliant soundtrack for dreaming. This cd is dedicated to the the idea of Jimmy the high-wire shrimper. Misplaced nautical charts, trade wind, shortwave miscommunication, midnight whispers"

HENKE, ROBERT Layering Buddha IMBALANCE COMPUTER MUSIC German CD $16.99

Berlin-based Robert Henke is best known for his work as Monolake, and as the software technology developer for the pioneering Ableton music software. This is his fourth full-length solo release for his own label, Imbalance Computer Music. The new ambient work Layering Buddha is a dark, shimmering, epic journey, solely created with sounds taken from the famous FM3 Buddha Machine. By transforming, filtering and massively layering the thin buzzing audio sound from this device he has achieved intrusive and dense soundscapes with strong cinematic associations, slowly travelling into deeper and deeper sonic layers, opening spaces where the perception of time is extended, where microscopic details become visible, and where slight changes in color and timbre create sensations of giant structures moving slowly in the distance. The sound of the original Buddha Machine player was captured using state of the art recording equipment, capable of collecting artifacts far beyond the frequency response of the human ear. This made it possible to reveal hidden and usually inaudible aspects of the material during the processing, leading to sonically rich results full of incredible, almost organic detail.
HENRY, MILTON Who Do You Think I Am? Wackies UK LP $15.99

LP version. Milton Henry's handful of classic sides - like his version of "Gypsy Woman," or "Cornbread and Butter" or "This World" and "Follow Fashion" over the Upsetter's fever rhythm (under the artist name King Medious) - made him a natural Wackies' recruit when he relocated from Jamaica to New York City in the late '70s. Soon after, he was fully involved in the day-to-day business of the operation, supervising sales and promotion, making deliveries, even holding spare keys to the studio for whenever Bullwackies himself was away. He appears in this activist role on the front-sleeve photograph, just up White Plains Road from the Bronx HQ: by its title, though, and first and last songs, this album also hints heavily at the past musical accomplishments of its mystery hero. The record was released first in London, in 1984, during the first months of Wackies Dean Street office, in north Soho. The band is basically Itopia. Sly Dunbar gets a credit - though neither he nor Robbie Shakespeare ever set foot in the studio: as if in acknowledgment for this rhythm, is "No Dreams." Jackie Mittoo and Bagga are 'pon the corner, from Studio One; Jerry Johnson and Neville Anderson are on brass; also Sugar and Max Romeo; and Sonia from the Love Joys performs a duet.
HERSH, KRISTIN Learn To Sing Like A Star Yep Rock US CD $15.99

"Hersh's prolific career spans twenty years, from founding pioneering post-punk art-rockers THROWING MUSES through more than ten TM records, eight solo releases & three releases with her harder-than-ever punk rock outfit 50FootWave. Her most recent solo outing, might finally be the rock record Hersh has hinted at for years - an intense, openly emotional & beautiful statement. ""Learn to Sing Like a Star"" comes across as the lovingly obsessive work of an artist who neverfails to ""bring it"" - an indie-rock symphony."

HIGH LLAMAS Can Cladders Drag City US CD $12.99

"It's been three years and several months of fortnights since the world was last graced with the sounds of The High Llamas. The acoustic flavor of Beet, Maize & Corn remains present in the sound of Can Cladders - a string quartet lays the harmonic bed of the material, joined there by a quartet of female vocalists. All of which lends the gospel truth to the Llamas traditional group profile of piano, bass and drums with vibes, organ and a bit of gut-string acoustic for good measure. Plus a few more touches and curves for extra-good measure and good flavor to boot - after all, ear candy is the once-and-future name of the pop game that created Can Cladders, and The High Llamas have ever been explorers in search of that exotic spice. During the creation of this new music, O'Hagan channeled a lot of white soul into his writing, with inflections of Laura Nyro, the Laurie Records sound, Motown drum feels and late-'70s UK reggae. "

HIVE MIND & AARON DILLOWAY Forgotten Thirst Hanson US LP $19.99

" ""While staying in Nepal I found a CD-R Greh had given me to listen to of his upcoming cassette, Forgotten Thirst on Gods Of Tundra. Haunting waves of organ drones. I tweaked it a bit and added some sparse tape disgusto. One of my personal favorite recordings. Misspelled title in tribute to my old band Universal Indians. One-sided clear blue vinyl with a circle of fish screenprinted on the B-side. Watch 'em swim while it plays! screenprinted 12x12 insert in picture LP sleeve. HOLY MOLAR Cavity Search 3 One G US CD Ep $8.49

HOLY SHIT Stranded UUAR US CD $14.99

"Holy Shit are from Los Angeles, California where a few years ago Matt Fishbeck after just having disbanded with the Push Kings, met Ariel Pink for the first time and the two of them started making music together. The two inherent pop musicians, having previously gone about recording in different ways, found an immediate balance in their direct approach to making tracks. Fishbeck might have reigned in some of the wildness of Ariel Pink's music while Ariel adds an unmistakable sound quality to these otherwise straightforward songs. Where Ariel Pink is the default front man for his own project, in this band Matt Fishbeck takes care of the lead vocals and guitars leaving Ariel to work out the beats and bass lines. Stranded at Two Harbors is the first full length collection of songs to emerge from this potent duo. Although there is a roughness in the recording quality due to recording as they go, this autonomous recording process is crucial to the end result, after listening to the album it wouldn't be natural hear the songs any other way. The urgency of the lyrics and melody is positively countered by timelessness of songwriting and an overall catchiness. The rhythms are genuinely contagious; and most of them are created by Ariel's mouth. One can sense an affinity in this music for '80s pop icons as well underground classics from bands like Orange Juice, Felt, or Go Kart Mozart. "
HOOFBEAT, CAW & THUNDER S/T Dark Holler US CD $9.49

"On Old Christmas Eve and Old Christmas Day, January 2006, Timothy, Revelator, having had on his mind thoughts of the death of Time; and in his ears and eyes, great gatherings of crows wherever he went; and in his heart his twin children; sat down, put pen to paper, and wrote ""Hoofbeat, Caw, & Thunder."" In two days' and two nights' time, thoughts and hopes and fears began to spin together like a spider's web, and he produced what is perhaps his most personal work to date. Biblical and personal revelation blend as animist apocrypha is reconciled to Catholic Apocalypse, disappointment to hope, past to future. All these thoughts of ENDING blending with the demise of Stone Breath (Timothy's now defunct band), and the fact that he has not released an album in well over eighteen months' time, lent this material a sense of urgency and he began to put it to music immediately (perhaps, in his mind, before The End). With a host of instruments at hand (guitars, banjos, dulcimers, harmonium, lute, and something Timothy calls the motheart), he began to compose songs and drones to marry to his text. Besides bowed strings and blown harmonium reeds, Timothy created drones from field recordings he made of steam engines and whistles from various antique engine shows (another anachronistic interest of Timothy's); as well as recordings of the loudest instrument in the world, the factory steam whistle in York, PA, which is played every Christmas at midnight and heard for many miles around. He recruited friends Sarada, whose silvery vocals have graced many of Timothy's previous albums, and Shane Speal, the King of the Cigar Box Guitar, to help. Sarada sang with Timothy while Shane played a double-necked bass/guitar cigar box and a fretless electric bass. ""Hoofbeat, Caw, & Thunder"" was meant to be taken as one piece (though divided into tracks for the convenience of the listener) and the sound weaves elements of Timothy's past with hints at his future musical direction. Not steampunk, but steamdrone and folk (wyrd or otherwise), sometimes with distorted dissonance, and other times in quieter, acoustic lead settings. In this, Time has turned in on itself; where sounds of medieval lutes meet 1970's tube-driven recording equipment, and 1880's steam whistles are sampled, reconstructed, and looped by modern devices. ""Hoofbeat, Caw, & Thunder,"" with sonic leaps back and forth through Time, becomes a meditation on the end of all things, or perhaps of just one man, and on love, and family, and what we leave behind. 9 tracks, 58 minutes."

HUSH ARBORS Under Bent Limb Trees Digitalis US 2xCD $19.99

Keith Wood and his Hush Arbors project had a good year in 2006. After multiple solo tours and stints with Wooden Wand & the Vanishing Voice, his first CD and LP were released earlier in the year. He ended the year relocating to England and plying his trade across the pond. With all this in mind, it was decided that a re-release of his first full-length for Digitalis was in order, and thus this expanded version of Under Bent Limb Trees was born. Keith Wood concocts massive emotional releases in his head and transfers them to tape using the most organic means possible. Bowed dulcimer, singing bowl, banjo, and his trademark falsetto dot the horizon of this majestic album. This graceful and subdued music has been extracted from the earth and laden with golden spirits. This two CD set is the perfect embodiment of Wood's delicate take on shy melancholia that has one foot in the forest and one on a log fire, burning with passion. His experience as the go-to guy of not only Ben Chasny (Six Organs of Admittance) but Massachusetts God-botherers Sunburned Hand of the Man for live appearances has clearly set him in good stead for his own recordings, and this collection only serves to magnify his deft talent and unique voice
IKE YARD 1980-1982 Collected Act $14.99

Influenced by their punk upbringing, avant-garde schooling, and no wave surroundings in early '80s NYC, Ike Yard managed to create a new sound by also tapping into equal parts the krautrock experimentation of Can, the Neue Deutsche Welle of DAF and the UK post-punk dub of PiL and Joy Division. This combination helped them to create sound and songs unique enough to catch the attention of Factory Records, who made them their first American signing. What really set Ike Yard apart were their cutting edge techniques. The mixing board and effects processors were as important as the bass, synth or occasional guitar, giving Ike Yard an aggressive and propulsive sound, where drum machines beat against the sound of scrap metal and angular guitar slashes dart through arpeggiated synth patterns. Acute Records released on 1980-82 Collected collects, for the first time, Ike Yard's two releases (their Factory LP and an EP for Les Disques di Crepuscule) plus several previously unreleased tracks.

Tim's guitar & vocal tracks were recorded first & then Mike, Bobby Burg, Nate Kinsella, Todd Mattei, Cale Parks, Ben Vida & Sam Zurick all came to the house & recorded their parts. Fifteen tracks made with the FM3 Buddha Machine. Featuring exclusive contributions by Adrian Sherwood and Doug Wimbish, Blixa Bargeld, SunnO))), Thomas Fehlmann, Sun City Girls, Gudrun Gut, Kammerflimmer Kollektief, Jan Jelinek/Andrew Pekler/Hanno Leichtmann, Mapstation, Aki Onda, Robert Henke, Es, Alog, Minit and Wang Fan. It was about three years ago whilst loafing in one of Beijing's finer foot massage joints that Christiaan Virant, the other half of Chinese duo FM3 to Zhang Jian, began to riff mutation fantasies as applied to the Buddha Machine. The Buddha Machine is a literal translation from Mandarin for the small plastic box, driven by two double 'A' batteries, that grinds out low-fi looped sutra variants across the whole of China and South East Asia. The original concept was to locate the nest, infect the breeding process with the new strain of meditative sonics developed by FM3 over the previous couple of years, lop off a hundred or so clones for promotion purposes and bounce off the impact with a few European gigs. That idea died as soon as the little babies fell into the hands of Brian Eno, a rare musical expeditionary from the far West visiting China, and the notorious Alan Bishop of the Sun City Girls. Only just over twelve months later the little beggar polls 88 thousand pages on Google (the number 8 is the luckiest number in China) and has a dedicated My Space page almost as amusing as the soundbox itself when only the Pope is missing from its fanbase! On Jukebox Buddha, the first chapter of Buddha version, disciples of many levels stretch, compress, reconfigure, rub and dust, and generally fuck around with the nine floating loops clipped out from FM3's confrontational world of quiet.

Music for Moviebikers is another trip! The totally uninhibited creativity and ever unconventional spirit of Kaada sways the album into a completely new and unpredictable sphere. In a new 22 piece orchestra Kaada has created a fresh medium to revel in - soft, reflective and mellow, not a style readily associated with the lawless composer. The music was conceived with the notion that the listener would construct mental imagery to coincide with the varying soundscapes presented, hence the title. Kaada has made a name for himself over the years both as a composer of film music and as an extensive touring solo artist. This is his third solo album, but his catalog also includes releases with Chloroform and a collaborative release with Mike Patton

KIRKEGAARD, JACOB Four Rooms Touch Tone UK CD $15.99

"This is Jacob Kirkegaard's second release for the Touch label, after Eldfjall. Born in Denmark, now living and working in Germany, here he explores one of the worst man-made disasters in history. The Chernobyl nuclear power plant exploded on April 26, 1986; clouds of radioactive particles were released, and the severely damaged containment vessel started leaking radioactive matter. More than 100,000 people were evacuated from the city and other affected areas. Despite the fact that radiation is still being emitted from the nuclear disaster site, the 900-year-old city of Chernobyl survives, although barely. As of 2004, government workers still police the zone, trying to clean up radioactive material. Some -- mostly elderly -- have decided to live with the dangers and have returned to their homes in the zone's towns and villages. The effects on the environment were catastrophic: huge areas of northern Europe were dosed with radioactivity. This work is a sonic presentation of four deserted rooms inside the ""Zone of Alienation"" in Chernobyl, Ukraine. Jacob Kirkegaard deliberately picked rooms that once were active meeting points for people: a church in village Krasno, an auditorium, a gymnasium and a swimming pool in Pripyat. Two decades after the event, Kirkegaard explores the phenomenon of radiation with the medium of sound. By listening to the silence of four radiating spaces he aims to unlock a fragment of the time existing inside the zone. Silence, unfolding in space. The sound of each room was evoked by sonic time layering: in each room, he recorded 10 minutes of it and then played the recording back into the room, while at the same time recording it again. This process was repeated up to ten times. As the layers got denser, each room slowly began to unfold a drone with various overtones. From a technical point of view, Kirkegaard's ""sonic time layering"" refers back to Alvin Lucier's work ""I Am Sitting in a Room"" (1970). Lucier recorded his voice in a space and repeatedly played this recording back into that same space. In this work, however, no voice is being projected into the rooms: during the recordings Kirkegaard left the four spaces to wait for whatever might evolve from the silence. "
KK RAMPAGE Sides E and F RCC US 7" $6.99

"The band that crashes your favorite bands' show, throws powdered sugar everywhere then pukes on it. This is their first sell out effort, recorded by ""the man"" they call Steve Albini & it's the heaviest record this side of 1977. KRAFTWERK Autobahn Vertigo UK LP $21.99

"Grey-area repro. ""Reissue in original picture sleeve of this very hard to find early Kraftwerk album from 1974. Although Kraftwerk's first three albums were groundbreaking in their own right, Autobahn is where the group's hypnotic electronic pulse genuinely came into its own. The main difference between Autobahn and its predecessors is how it develops an insistent, propulsive pulse that makes the repeated rhythms and riffs of the shimmering electronic keyboards and trance-like guitars all the more hypnotizing. The 22-minute title track, in a severely edited form, became an international hit single and remains the peak of the band's achievements -- it encapsulates the band and why they are important within one track but the rest of the album provides soundscapes equally as intriguing. "
KRAFTWERK Ralf & Florian Germanaphone German CD $18.99

Kraftwerk's third album Ralf und Florian was released in November 1973 and its title is almost synonymous with a nickname for the duo. The front cover was taken by Florian's then-girlfriend Barbara Niemöller. The LP is a continuation of the ideas on the first two LPs, but the music has a much cleaner sound dominated by electric piano and soft electronic percussion. The first track 'Elektrisches Roulette' (Electric Roulette) is a rhythmically repetitive piece and I think that you can trace the later Kraftwerk sound in this song. The track features electronics, violin, electric piano and drums. It is very much a pop song and maybe the best track on the album.
KTL S/T Editions Mego Austria CD $16.99

KTL is a collaboration between Stephen O'Malley (SunnO))), Khanate, etc.) and Peter Rehberg (Pita, etc.). This is a six-part collision amongst the increasingly fading presences between the light and the dark, with some pieces recorded in a resistance fortress in southern France during a thunderstorm - while others were recorded in a winter garden drenched in sunlight. The collaboration came about as the two were working on a theatre production by GisŹle Vienne and Dennis Cooper, entitled Kindertotenlieder. It must be stated that this CD is NOT the soundtrack to said piece, but a separate project. However, elements may appear in the finished piece which is to be premiered in Brest, France, March 2007. File under: digital analog black metal. Stephen O'Malley: strings, FX, amps; Peter Rehberg: oscillators, applications, drives. KTL is a threatening new collaboration taking in parallel worlds of Extreme Computer Music and Black Metal.
KUTI, FELA Confusion / Gentleman Wrasse US CD $15.99

LAIR OF THE MINOTAUR Ultimate Destroyer Southern Lord US LP $16.99

The second album from Chicago's warlords, Lair of the Minotaur!! The Ultimate Destroyer bulldozes down the same path as their critically acclaimed and now classic debut: Carnage. Blistering riffs, and skull-crushing rhythms played with an apocalyptic aesthetic and complimented perfectly with horrific lyrical vengeance. The Ultimate Destroyer in whole is faster, yet slower and more vicious then anything the band has previously done.

LIALEH Soundtrack Light In The Attic US CD $13.99

LILES, ANDREW Dying Submariner CD $17.99

" (A Concerto for Piano and Reverberation in Four Movements). ""Leviathan low-end growls belch a hazy pitch into the sea, rendering daylight useless to penetrate the unknown depths. Andrew's concerto for piano and reverb conjures many spirits, including that of wrathful Poseidon. The piece (in 4 movements) also conjures the spirit of nothingness. A sense of complete loneliness prevails in the echoey death throes. The faint scent of forebears fascinated with watery graves and abandon lingers from the wake of such pieces as Gavin Bryars' 'The Sinking Of The Titanic' and many of Harold Budd's early works, though Liles' fitful concerto paints his submariner's demise more as a dissonant, prolonged struggle than as a melodic, majestic descent. Spatially, the work tends to build into shifting layers similar to Charlemagne Palestine, Henry Cowell's clusters or La Monte Young's Well Tuned Piano (though Andrew's work is not based on a microtonal system). "
LOVE COMP Various La Troisieme French CD $15.99

The label La TroisiŹme Note presents a pleasant-yet-erudite compilation simply entitled Love. A perfect bittersweet collection of frivolous ballads, lamentations under the sun and sublime harmonies with warm choirs and luxurious arrangements, recorded in the enchanting years of 1966-69. These 17 tracks of obscure British pop, West Coast melodies and sunshine pop, performed by unsung heroes such as Harpers Bizarre, Bill Fay and Margo Guryan, or by cult artists like Harry Nilsson, Donovan or The Zombies, all exhale the delicious perfume of decadence, typical of the late '60s. An era which had undoubtedly been a golden age, but whose traces ended up slowly fading away through the twists and turns of the history of pop music. This compilation of rare, unknown, lost or deleted tracks, "designed for presenting collectors' music to girls who never remember the title of the songs they love," is owed to two fine specialists whose legendary curiosity is unquenchable: sound designer Catherine Piault and selector/compiler Guillaume Sorge.

Born January '06. With influences such as The Jesus & Mary Chain, Galaxie 500, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, The Velvet Underground & a reputation for playing gigs that last anything between 10 - 15 minutes, they play fuzzed up noisy pop music combined w/slower, less raucous sounding tunes "
MARBLE VALLEY Wild Yams Indikator German CD $15.99

This is the third solo album by ex-Pavement drummer Steve West. After attending high school with future Pavement bandmate Bob Nastanovich, he later relocated to New York City and worked as a Whitney Museum security guard alongside another future Pavement collaborator, frontman Stephen Malkmus. Steve West replaced former Pavement drummer Gary Young in 1993, just in time for the recording of Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain. The first Marble Valley album, Sauckiehall Street, appeared in 1997; Sunset Sprinkler followed three years later. Wild Yams is deeply sympathetic indierock with subtle electronic influence. All the songs are sure to turn into personal friends right after the first listen. Players on this record include: James Waudby - guitar, Carl Hogarth - keys/synth, Beige - bass, Remko Schouten - synth, Andy Dimmack - drums, Steve West - vocals.
MARCLAY, CHRISTAIN & TONE WOLF Event Asphodel US CD $13.99

"Originally recorded in early '98 when it was improvised for a performance of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, Event is a 3 way tug of war of formats. Marclay using his trademarked turntables & records, Tone w/ prepared CD's & CD players & Christian Wolff utilizing a cassette recorder/player (plus bass, various percussion & a melodica). The result is an ocean of screams, bleets, chirps, howls & drones w/ each player stepping into the spotlight periodically & seemlessly. Just as tides ebb & flow, so does the ""trichotomy"" of these 3 wise men "

MASSONIX Subtracks Skam UK CD $15.99

Massonix is a project by UK producer extraordinaire Graham Massey, and this release is a collection of tracks spanning ten years of sub-aquatic electronic keyboard portraitures. "Pioneer" and "originator" are terms that are massively overused these days, and there are very few people who can truly lay claim to the term without exaggeration. Massonix is one of those people. In the mid-1980s, while still recording with Biting Tongues (who recorded albums for Factory Records, amongst others), he started making music with Gerald Simpson and Martin Price under the name 808 State. He has been involved in production and remix work for artists such as Björk, Art Of Noise, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Yes, Afrika Bambaataa, Primal Scream, UB40, The Future Sound of London, Robbie Williams, Gong, Blue Pearl, Goldfrapp, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Quincy Jones, David Bowie, Rolf Harris, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bomb the Bass and The Stone Roses. Until now, other than a 12" released in 1990, most of the stunning music that Graham has composed as Massonix has been for occasional live sets here and there, all of them for events run by or associated with Skam, including sets from the Shock City event that took place in Manchester Cathedral in 1998, the Warp 10th birthday lighthouse party in 2000, and Autechre's All Tomorrow's Parties Festival in 2003. Much of the music on this nautically-themed album comprises elements of rhythm and melody originally taken from these live sets, which have then been reworked and assembled into finished tracks. The results will make you delirious.

MATT VALENTINE AND ERIKA ELDER with Bummer Road Mother Of Thousands Time Lag US 2xLP $34.99

MATT VALENTINE AND ERIKA ELDER with Bummer Road Mother Of Thousands Time Lag US CD $21.99

"After piles of privately released CD-Rs & long gone vinyl only releases, here's the MV/EE album for the masses, who are no doubt quivering for it... don't be fooled though, this is neither the medicine show zone of recent years, nor a mere echo of the tower recordings flame, but a new beast stirring awake in the beaming sun of now. Aided by the Bummer Road and the omni present Erika Elder, MV has here pushed his cosmic sounds beyond the apex of high. No doubt there's plenty of lifted rural raga vibrations, and big woozy doses of haunted folk-blues as well, but the mix of flat-out killer 'songs' and extended electric psych-outs is something of a revelation. 'Beautiful Mountain' & 'Sunshine Girl' are tantalizingly close to being something like modern underground hits, while the side-long album closer 'Death Don't Have To Mercy' is an epic head-spinning trip loaded with moments of fragile piano lull, layers of serpentine acid guitars, and all-around smoky late-night jam vibes... features Matt Valentine & Erika Elder with Mo' Jiggs, Sparrow Wildchild, Nemo Bidstrup, Tim Barns & Samara Lubelski adding harmonica, percussion, flute, electric guitar, tambura, violin, ukelin, and more to the usual assortment of mystic strings... packaged in a beautiful heavy old-style gatefold cover. Pressed on two slabs of audiophile grade 180gm virgin vinyl."

MEEK, JOE I Hear A New World RPM UK CD $17.99

Special Edition enhanced CD featuring: original album, Joe Meek monologue, Joe Meek film clip - on CD-ROM track. "An early RPM release gets the makeover treatment to bring you a very special...special edition. Meek's highly influential album I Hear A New World, from which tracks continue to be sampled by today's pop meisters such as David Toop and Lewis Taylor, has added to it an extra 40-minute audio track, plus a bonus enhanced CD-ROM track. The audio is an interview with Meek conducted in 1962 as he takes the listener around his studio. The enhanced ROM track is the segment filmed by the World In Action team for a Granada TV documentary broadcast in the early '60s discussing influential people in popular culture at that time. The clip of Meek is approx. 3 mins in duration. The profile of Joe Meek and his recordings has risen immeasurably over the last decade. TV documentaries, book biographies, a recording equipment company named after him selling his compressors, frequent name checks and frequent press pieces on his work. I Hear A New World is a unique recording - Meeks' vision of an outer space music fantasy has never been equalled since.
MENCHE, DANIEL Jugularis Important US CD $14.99

Imagine yourself riding on cells coasting through your body's veins. The sound of the heart grows stronger like a beating drum as you're pulled closer. Suddenly, you're embraced by this giant pulsating muscle and when you're finally released back into the veins you can hear it's sound fading slowly, but still growling with the same intensity that it has beat with for eternity. Jugularis is the soundtrack to this ride and like your heart it's packaged in blood: the ultimate symbol of life and intensity. Recently Daniel Menche has embraced more percussion based sound to create music that manipulates the listener's blood flow and intensifies the listening experience
MENCHE, DANIEL Concussions Asphodel US CD $14.99

"For his new project the sonic stakes are even taken further into a relentless world of the propulsive pulse. Powerful, poly-rhythmic percussives pound & merge together into an intense avalanche of overdriven noise blasts that actually rock hypnotically in a periodic way seldom heard before. Daniel takes the perpetual beat engine of 49 locomotives & rides down the 20 untitled tracks & stampedes off a cliff. This is the true METAL! Flex your muscles! "
MENCHE, DANIEL Creatures Of Cadence Crouton US CD $16.99

Despite what the title might suggest, Creatures of Cadence is not about endings, completion, or finality. Instead we find Menche inviting a slew of new mediators into his cathartic miasma. The medium now extends beyond the rich and unfathomable depths of somatic sound. His ongoing dialogue between body and mind has found sympathetic resonators in a myriad of instruments (percussion, cello, horns, and zither) that have proven through the ages of being capable of channeling both our most ecstatic joy and profoundest grief. Creatures of Cadence finds Menche in full exploratory mode; excavating well-concealed networks of sonorous information through a systematic deconstruction of drone and pulse. In the process, he further erases any perceived division between hearing/feeling and performer/instrument. The result, if consumed at the appropriate amplitude, is nothing less than a sixty-minute journey through a voluptuous and pristine mania.
MENCHE, DANIIEL AND KK NULL Raijin Asphodel US CD $13.99

"5 untitled tracks constructed by noise artists D. Menche and KK Null, hit like a violent storm in this electrically charged collaboration by 2 masters of dense sound sculpture. Like Raijin & Fujin, Shinto Gods of thunder & lightning, Menche & Null command attention w/ the ability to create a powerful sensory presence. Their treatment of drum, voice, trumpet & electronics roars and tumbles through these collating waves of noise & electro-acoustic ambience. Menche’s thunderous drums resonate like a shockwave as Null’s lightning sheds light upon those seeking shelter on land. Each armed w/ a penchant for sonic destruction & a massive discography, Menche’s concussions pound between Null’s electronic noise terror. These 5 unnamed & unstable atmospheres manifest absolute pure thunder! "

MOONDOG And His Friends 2006 UK CD $18.99

The music played by Moondog and his friends on this CD was originally released on vinyl in the early 1950s as EPIC LG 1002. Moondog's Corner is happy to present this great collector's item, as carefully restored and remastered by Andreas Torkler at the Sonopress Studio in Gütersloh (Germany), for the first time on CD in a complete edition - now including the two suites from Side B of the vinyl. And as a special bonus for all Moondog fans, Moondog's Corner has added in some relatively new but hard to get selections of music by Moondog: in 1987, the American musician Paul Jordan recorded 'Logrundr XVIII in C-Sharp Minor' for his solo organ CD, Buxtehude, Moondog and Co. 'Fleur de Lis ' was included by the young German harpist Xenia Narati in 2005 on her debut album, Moondog Sharp Harp. And, finally, 'Sun Collector In 7/8' is an improvisation uniquely realized by Stefan Lakatos using Moondog's own percussion instrument, the trimba. The 1953 recordings here were previously reissued on vinyl only by Honest Jon's (HJP 024).

MOTH MASK S/T Dark Holler US CD $8.49

"Moth Masque was concieved from the beginning as an experiment. After completing work on Stone Breath's ""The Silver Skein Unwound"" CD, on which Timothy plays a large variety of Eastern, western and home-made instruments, Timothy decided to focus and create something using only one instrument and vocals. This was, however, the only rule. All of the music on Moth Masque is played on a Joseph Rickett banjo from 1880. It was played in the clawhammer, 2-finger, and 3-finger styles. It was played with a slide; a bow; it was beat like a drum; strummed; and sung through. Alicia and Timothy added vocals to this musical bed, and the entire album was then processed via aetheric engineering creating a true mix of sounds culled from the 1800s through today. Moth Masque is an album of love songs through the eyes of moths. Or, perhaps, moth songs through the eyes of love. It features 11 all new compositions by Alicia and Timothy as well as a new version of ""Wisdom on the Moth's Wing,"" which originally appeared on Stone Breath's first CD, ""Songs of Moonlight and Rain"" (out of print). Comes in hand-stenciled black digipaks black-on-black or glow-in-the-dark (randomly inserted). "

MUM Peel Sessions Fat Cat UK 12" $10.99

"There are a variety of sounds & songs, ranging from pop-folk numbers to hard rock to outré concepts held together by their diverse musical personality. They display intense power on these new recordings, incorporating frame drums & tympanis & the ""springer"" (a device made by Batoh that contains metal springs, a resonance box, plasma ball (light) & rotating machine to create a heavy yet theremin-like sound) into their already-diverse orchestra. Incl. a blasting cover of Cromagnon’s “Caledonia”. This is the same line-up as ""Hypnotic Underworld""."
MY BLOODY VALENTINE VS. KRIKOR More G.D.M. Vol. 6 12" Pandamaki French 12" $10.99

This release was originally scheduled to come out on Tigersushi a few years back, but got delayed and delayed...here it is finally in a slightly camouflaged presentation. The A-side is a timeless warehouse jam (from 1990) that mixes Andrew Weatherall (Two Lone Swordsmen) with the brilliance of Kevin Shields. The track is "Soon (Andrew Weatherall mix)" - It was available on a previously ultra-rare EP (Glider Remixes) and is an absolute tearjerker. A strong warehouse vibe, relaxed beat and hooky vocal sample provide the core of this all-time classic. On the flip, Krikor blends the raw and funky attitude of a Prince-tinged beat and the acid reverie of an Adonis classic into one brilliant gem. [due to weird licensing issues, the artist shown on the a-side of this record is "Your Lovely Eglantine"...]
MY CAT IS AN ALIEN Leave Me In The Black Important US CD $14.99

"Consists of two tracks entitled Part One & Part Two for a total lenght of 56:15 minutes. Recorded in their secret recording-space up on the Western Alps of Italy, during the trespassing from dusk to the beginning of the night, the work lives of the same dark magic of the Wagnerian post-romantic overtures, suspended between the deepest silence & the most deflagrating sonic attack. Light/Darkness, noise/silence, permeated by Roberto Opalio's suffering vocal tunes, which defines & underlines the edge of the work"
NELSON, WILLIE Songbird US LP $12.99

"Despite coming from different musical backgrounds, Willie Nelson & Ryan Adams, who produced, find an amazing middle ground w/their 1st full length collaboration. The beautifully textured ""Songbird"" pays homage to a widely diverse group of songwriters such as Leonard Cohen, Gram Parsons, Fleetwood Mac, & Grateful Dead, & features originals from both Willie & Ryan. The album sits perfectly between the traditional country music Willie almost single handedly carried into the new millennium & the dissonant guitar driven rock Ryan has melded together in the last few years w/The Cardinals. Featuring THE CARDINALS & MICKEY RAPHAEL."
NEW GHOST Upstairs At Nick's ESP Disk US CD $14.99

New' artist from ESP. Elliot Levin: vocals, flute, musette, tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone; Rick Iannacone: vocals, guitar; Steve Testa: bass; John Testa: drums. "If one was to believe descriptive snippets, the thing to do when Elliot Levin approaches is find a place to hide. In a worse case scenario, try to climb a tree - at least, that is the advice hikers would receive about the oncoming approach of something 'ferocious...frenzied...bearlike.' However, the comparison with bears is based on the size and appearance of the Philadelphia performer, while the other adjectives are filling one of their more esoteric purposes in the English language, attempting to describe just what it is free jazz performers do when they blow into their horns. Whatever it is, Levin does a lot of it, on tenor saxophone and flute. There is nothing watered-down or weak about his performances, no attempt to make the music a bit more accessible to the novices, tender-hearted or just plain wimpy
NEWS FROM BABEL Sirens RER US 3xCD BOX SET $29.99

"This is the first time that these two long out-of-print LPs have appeared separately on CD. Both have been carefully re-mastered and re-packaged. This slipcase edition contains an extra illustrated CD of the 7"" single, Contraries, which was issued originally only to subscribers to the original release of Sirens. News from Babel was Chris Cutler's second song project, following Art Bears in 1979. Lindsay Cooper, also late of Henry Cow, was the main composer and Zeena Parkins completed the group, making her recording debut, on acoustic harp. 'I first met Zeena when she was in The Janus Circus; she was an accordion-playing bear (that costume was wild to be in; I tried it) and a lion tamer there. Then I discovered she was also a harpist, and we made the plan to do a record there and then.' -Chris Cutler. The incomparable Dagmar Krause took the singing chair for the first LP, and was joined on the second by Robert Wyatt, film director Sally Potter and Phil Minton. Most of the recording was done at This Heat's Cold Storage, engineered by The Work's Bill Gilonis, who also played a little bass and guitar. There was still a close knit community of musicians back then. Chunks of 'Letters Home' were recorded in the thick of the Brixton riots, which the band were blissfully unaware of until it came time to go home, when they stepped straight into the middle of them. Henry Cow's second bassist, Georgie Born, also appears. She has since retired to academia - her weighty anthropological studies of IRCAM and the BBC are notorious and she teaches at Cambridge University. These records were, like Art Bears' records, conceived for the studio and were never meant to be performed. Harp, bassoon, piano, accordion, saxophones and voice was even then an eccentric line-up for what was essentially a kind of rock group - or at least thought of itself that way. "
NEWSOM, JOANNA Ys Drag City US CD $14.99

NEWSOM, JOANNA Ys Drag City US 2xLP $19.99

Five songs, fifty-five minutes, what-an-album! Ys is to Ms. Newsom a dream collaboration between her voice and harp and a full orchestra - a sound many of us fans have thought we were hearing when listening with closed eyes at her concert performances. Songs familiar to Joanna's following are a big part of Ys, having been performed in concert over the past year - but not with the arrangements you'll find on four of the five songs here (one song being 'classic' Joanna; which is to say, solo). The songs, conceived with harp and voice and tracked as such by Steve Albini, were arranged with kindness and love by the legendary Van Dyke Parks over several months of correspondence and collaboration with Joanna.
NILES, JOHN JACOB An Evening With Transition US CD $13.99

NIOBE White Hats Tomlab US CD $14.99

"She is mostly focusing on the big Pop-panorama: Ambient-Bossa-Nova and Hip Hop with a Gospel touch are sitting together in the mountain sun on top of the White Hats (which can be seen on the cover artwork). Her passionate voice is wandering between many worlds, marching through picturesque landscapes, and releasing its amazing powers over crystalline guitars."
NIRMALA, TIRATH SINGH Bluster, Cragg & Awe Digitalis US CD $12.99

His continually unfolding backstory is interesting enough, but it's his music where the real magic and mystery stretch their silver wings. Nirmala returned to making music after his close friend and collaborator, Vibracathedral Orchestra's Neil Campbell, gave him some free software and set him on his way. Nirmala responded with nearly a dozen self-released, highly limited CD-Rs. The releases were filled to the brim with Eastern-influenced, transcendental drones and uplifting spiritual sound explorations. His manipulation of sine waves and use of obscure Asian instruments creates a wholly original and unique sound.
NITSCH, HERMANN Requien For Meine Frau Beate Alga Marghen Italian 2xCD $45.99

"Alga Marghen proudly present the documentation of Requiem für meine Frau Beate, which took place in the Chiesa di Santa Lucia in Bologna, Italy, in 1977 shortly after Beate Nitsch's death. This was not only one of the strongest and most powerful aktionen by Hermann Nitsch but also a crucial point in the development of his art. Beginning in 1977, Beate Nitsch was travelling in Schwarzwald. She has been inaugurating a nursery-school and wanted to meet some relatives in Stuttgart when, near Ulm, she had a terrible car accident. Beate had supported her husband's art not only sharing the sentimental part of their life but also actively collaborating to the organization of his work. She organized the purchase of a castle in Prinzendorf, the central place where Nitsch would develop his Orgien Mysterien Theater. For Hermann Nitsch, this loss was a complete collapse. He suddenly felt to be on the opposite side of life, alone and full of despair. In those days, he reached the deepest point of black unhappiness. Nitsch decided then to go Naples where he organized a Lehraktion at Morra Gallery. His friend Kubelka joined him from the USA. During the Lehraktion, he was told about a big Performance Festival that would have taken place in Bologna. Nitsch was invited to participate with an aktion to be performed in a big old church. It was clear to Nitsch that he would have conceived an aktion dedicated to the memory of Beate. A requiem, even. Before the aktion in Bologna, Hermann Nitsch's music was basically released as a wall of noise. The musicians could play what they wanted and the only instruction was to play as loud as possible. Only the duration, the starting point and the noise level of each instrument was fixed. For the first time with the Requiem, Nitsch started to conceive longer tone clusters, specially for the wind instruments. The perfect acoustics of the church with its wonderful organ, which shocked Nitsch with its intensity and power, suggested him a new direction in music. Among the lucky audience were many friends coming from all over the world to witness the event. For everyone the Requiem was an important and ecstatic experience. The big success of the aktion gave Nitsch the strength to continue his work. Shortly after Bologna he was invited to create new aktionen in Canada and Los Angeles. First time 2CD edition, in tri-folded digipack, reproducing the impossible-to-find 3LP art gallery edition issued in Naples in 1977 for the Radiotaxi series. Including a 12-page folded insert with drawings and directions from the LP boxset original graphics. This edition also includes a 32-page shocking full color photo documentation of the aktion, for the first time available now. Edition of 1000 copies. "

NORTH BY NORTH WEST Particularly Interesting Local History Warner Music UK UK 3xCD Box Set $36.99

Limited 3CD version. Subtitled: Liverpool + Manchester: From punk to post-punk and beyond. Compiled by NMElegend Paul Morley, with 24 page booket of liner notes. Mostly common tracks, although some are undoubtedly hard or impossible to access on CD (Pink Industry, Big In Japan, Wah! Heat, etc.). "A new release on the recently resurrected Korova imprint - the original home of Echo and the Bunnymen, Bette Bright, Lori & The Chameleons, The Sound and the Residents. These CDs are a sort of tale of two cities - it is a journey through how the music scenes of Manchester and Liverpool developed fast and energetically in the years between 1976 - when punk music from London and New York liberated young musicians in local areas to experiment with look and sound - and 1984 - when the commercial and creative impact of post-punk music from Manchester and Liverpool music was undeniable. The Manchester sound, as initially conceived by The Buzzcocks and The Fall, was fierce, cerebral and noisy. It was intelligent but aggressive punk. The Liverpool music always veered towards a pop dipped in psychedelia, even novelty, to a more dramatic, flamboyant and big-headed sound. Manchester was introverted, Liverpool extroverted, Manchester was angry, surreal and political, Liverpool was twisted, often cocky, show business. Whatever the differences, both cities suddenly produced brilliant new bands, exciting new independent labels and unique characters in a very brief period of time. In just a few brief years the Manchester articulate, desolate, beautiful and crazed sound led directly to the Smiths. The sly, witty, mad and camp Liverpool sound exploded into the outside world via Frankie Goes To Hollywood. These three CDs chronologically plot the journeys that were happening simultaneously in the two cities." Artists: Buzzcocks, The Fall, John Cooper Clarke, The Durutti Column, Joy Division, The Passage, Blue Orchids, The Distractions, A Certain Ratio, Ludus, New Order, The Smiths, Spitfire Boys, Yachts, Will Sergeant, Omd, Echo and the Bunnymen, Wah! Heat, Lori and the Chameleons, Teardrop Explodes, Care, Pale Fountains, Dalek I Love You, Lotus Eaters, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Warsaw, Slaughter and the Dogs, Bette Brightand the Illuminations, Those Naughty Lumps, Big Japan, Stockholm Monsters, James, China Crisis, Spherical Objects, Pink Industry, Crispy Ambulance, Section 25, Swamp Children.
NORTH SEA & RAMSES III Night Of The Ankou Type UK CD $15.99

Night of the Ankou is an immense collaboration between London-based psychedelic-ambient three piece Rameses III and Tulsa's finest free folk rebel, Brad Rose aka The North Sea. Rose might be better known as the brains behind Digitalis, a multi-media wyrd folk empire acting as a CD-R label, magazine, book publisher and full-blown label, but it is his own musical compositions that remain at the core of whatever he turns his hand to. As with many overseas collaborations these days, the two acts have never actually met in person - instead they worked by re-moulding each others' tracks, working their own ideas into the skeletons of that of the other, and the result is mesmerizing. The opener "Death of the Ankou" is a hypnotic journey into the instrumental ambience explored by such acts as Popol Vuh or Stars of the Lid, yet adds a sense of cinematic adventure which could be compared to Type's very own Deaf Center. We are transported quite promptly into a spiritual world of water, bamboo, beauty and restraint which is simultaneously calming and beguiling. The second piece, entitled "Night Blossoms Written in Sanskrit" is different; the ambience is filled out by echoing guitar, and the mood goes from peaceful and spiritual to truly triumphant. It would even be possible to compare this track to the later work of Slowdive - it has that same blissful, life-affirming quality which makes you remember why you loved music in the first place. The disc is polished off by a remix from the Type Records boss himself Xela, and pulls together the ideas explored in the first two tracks, adding elements of his own signature production. Drones and bowed guitar squeals are spread densely over light percussion, harp and otherworldly sounds to produce something unusual but hugely enjoyable. This may be Type's first foray into the weird world of psychedelic folk music, but given the deep ambience and mysterious cinematic beauty of Night of the Ankou, it is a match made in heaven.
NOTO, ALVA & RYUICHI SAKAMOTO Revep Raster German CD EP $16.99

Only the real end is the end - and after the success of Insen this project has not reached the end yet. The EP Revep is a continuation of the collaboration of Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto and offers a previously unreleased extract of this musical exchange which started with Vrioon and found its temporary end with the Insen album. Similar to its predecessors, Revep breaks the rules of traditional acoustics - the separation of sound and noise - in a mysterious manner. 'You hardly can go further, hardly can get deeper into the structure of sounds - in order to discover a beauty never heard before.' - Tim Lorenz, Groove. In contrast to both predecessors, Revep presents with 'ax Mr.L.,' a track where the artists fall back on an already renowned composition by Sakamoto - the theme music of the movie 'Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence' with David Bowie, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Takeshi Kitano from 1983." 20 minute EP, in fold out digipak

O Kantamoinen Sahko Finland CD $19.99

Mika Vainio presents a new excursion to his wonderful soundscapes. TIP!" 2005 release, the first new CD from Mika Vainio (Pan Sonic)'s Į alias in many years. Recorded in Barcelona, Wien, Berlin, 1999-2004. One track features the voice of Oscar Sala. Records like Rontgen, Kvantti, Metri, Olento & Tulkinta radically changed the face of music in the 1990's and this new comeback CD extends the boundaries just a little bit further. Perhaps geared a bit more towards the realms of cinematic function, Vainio's music still maintains an immaculate sense of isolated pulse.
O.M.F.O. We Are The Shepherds AY UK CD $16.99

"Our Man From Odessa - is the master of crossover par excellence. Born in the port of Odessa (Ukraine), German Popov emigrated to Amsterdam in 1989. As an explorer, German Popov loves to travel around Central Asia making live recordings of everything from the traditional songs and melodies of the steppes to the modern restaurant bands of Tashkent with their tinny keyboard sound. So welcome to electronic Walachia, where folk meets Kraftwerk and where bizarre instruments and electronic sounds combine to create a whole new musical dimension. With his ideas and his musicians he bravely goes where no human ear has dared to go before. Futurism meets folklore imaginaire: ladies and gentlemen, we are floating in Eastern European space. His first album on the Essay Recordings label, Trans Balkan Express put him in the international spotlight and none other than Borat, (the controversial Kazakhstani journalist character invented and portrayed by British-Jewish comedian Sacha Baron Cohen) has chosen two tracks from the album - ""Money Boney"" and ""Magic Mamaliga"" - for the soundtrack to his latest film. Produced by Atom TM and O.M.F.O "
OCTOPUS Restless Night: The Complete Pop-Psych Sessions 1967-71 Rev Ola UK CD $17.99

Octopus' sole 1969 long-player Restless Night is something of a treasure among '60s Brit-psych fans due to its mixture of proto-progressive riffs, accomplished pop tunes and sparkling Beatlesque flourishes. The band evolved out of the thriving Hertfordshire beat scene that also gave us The Zombies, The Gods and those other cult pop-psych heroes Forever Amber. Octopus' music was colored by the use of keyboards and layered vocal harmonies in much the same way. By the time they'd been signed to Larry Page's Penny Farthing label in 1969, their sound had expanded to encompass the burgeoning progressive scene, the dawn of the solo troubadour and the omnipresent influence of The Beatles, illustrated perfectly by their live sets of the period. The first single and album opener 'The River' is a tough dancefloor groover complete with lysergic fuzz guitar and has appeared on several compilations while the album cover art is an eye-opening classic of the 'so bad it's good' school. Much to the band's horror, they discovered that Page had released a bastardized version of the album which omitted two of the original tracks and added the B-side of the single. Previous re-issues of the album have, not surprisingly, stuck to the erroneous tracklist but here at Rev-Ola we always strive to give you more. So here it is pop pickers, for the first time EVER, the original version of the Octopus album as the band intended... containing previously unheard (and uniformly excellent) tunes plus the usual plethora of previously unreleased bonus tracks, single sides, demos. Our edition also features new and extensive liner notes telling the full-on story of Octopus as they morphed from provincial beat favorites into psychedelic warriors.

ONE SECOND BRIDGE S/T Buro German CD $15.99

Originally from Mexico City and Buenos Aires respectively, Vicente García Landa and Matias Bieniaszewski met through a record-shop owning older brother - coming together to form One Second Bridge and in doing so bringing their loves of pop, electronica, shoegaze and delicate psychedelia together in a crucible of audio rightness. Having met in their spiritual home - the duo found they had an immediate musical affinity, ignoring the clichés normally associated with such "instant chemistry" and instead turning their hand to late-night recording sessions that tended towards boundless improvisation. Forming the backbone of this release, these bouts of musical improvisation in no way indicate an album full of wandering compositions or half-baked ideas. Rather, the One Second Bridge ethos verges on the melody-drenched output of classic 4AD or even Morr's Slowdive tributes. Opening with the self-titled "One Second Bridge," Garcia and Bieniaszewski roam into view against a watercolor backdrop of Basinksi-styled decaying soundscapes, before the contrast is drawn to the foreground through chiming acoustic guitars and a heat-haze of effects that leave everything tantalizingly out of reach. From here, the next stop is effects layered post-rock on the appropriately titled "No.2," wherein Mogwai's "Somewhere Nice" is given a bright-eyed rinse-down and comes out the other side with a genuine spring in its step that is both infectious and deeply moving. Elsewhere, "Um Minuto" uses some Satie-inspired piano to poignant effect, "Keep On Falling" manages to reference both Badalamenti and Slowdive without becoming overawed, whilst "Alt.Ending" sees you out on a blush of choral rectitude. A gorgeous album that wears its grandness with astonishing ease.
