Bass Communion v Muslimgauze EP Soleilmoon Recordings sol106cd 2000 (18:36)

six (9:34)
seven (9:02)

Bass Communion - London - instruments - processing - editing.  Muslimgauze - Manchester - rhythms - loops.

This $10 EP delivers the final two pieces of a collaboration between ultra prolific Bryan Jones, aka Muslimgauze, and Steven Wilson, aka Bass Communion.  Tracks one through five were completed during Jones' lifetime and released last year on the first cd, while six and seven were finished by Wilson late last year and are now released in an unlimited edition.  Same sessions, same title, similar artwork ... two different discs.  It's a bit confusing but the end result is another 18+ minutes of Muslimgauze material for the world.  Six features a pounding rhythm throughout with occasional breaks to allow the beautiful layered atmospheres and effected audio bits to float to the surface.  Seven is much more subdued with gentle tablas, reversed audio and ambient textures until the final minute when a crisp rhythm, female vocal sample and digital squiggles take over.  The balance between Bass Communion's ambience and Muslimgauze's fierce rhythm loops is just as solid here as on the first cd and I'm sure Jones would be pleased with the results.  The first cd will be re-issued with new cover art later this year ...
