HARDWICK, EL Process of Elimination LP
Process of Elimination, El Hardwick's sophomore's album, explores sickness as a teacher for anti-capitalist modes of being; a rewilding of the self. Out via AD 93, the record is the product of an attempt to be indestructible; this sickness has an unknown diagnosis. El Hardwick's album follows their experience of becoming chronically ill after years of treating their body like a machine. El explains: "After failing to receive a diagnosis, which is only given via a lengthy process of elimination, I instead turned to autonomous modes of healing rooted in mysticism and herbalism; putting aside the need to be defined. My journey towards accepting my disability is told in parallel to my coming-out as trans. I also see my non-binary identity as a process of elimination: I am neither gender, both, in-between. It is through rewilding myself from capitalism and gender normativity that I learn how to connect to my body and the earth; no longer allowing either's energy to be extracted from. The less I sought answers, language, metrics and analysis, the more peace I found." Silvia Federici's Caliban And The Witch influenced the album in telling how dissident women and gender nonconforming people have been historically labelled as hysterical and heretical when questioning the cartesian dualist mindset that laid the groundwork of capitalism. Donna J Haraway's Staying With The Trouble and Jenny Odell's How To Do Nothing were further inspirations in how humans can rebuild relationships with the earth. The album features a number of London-based musicians and friends: Alex McKenzie (Gentle Stranger, Shovel Dance Collective, Caroline) on clarinet, flute and saxophone, Laura Misch on saxophone, Marysia Osu (Levitation Orchestra) on harp, Memory Play on co-production, double bass and saw, and Sasha Wilde on vocals. El Hardwick is a multidisciplinary artist living in London, UK. Identifying as trans non-binary, their work weaves narratives between queer world making practices and how listeners can heal on a damaged planet.

ROBERTSON, JOANNE Blurrr LP
Joanne Robertson follows up on AD 93 with the album Blurrr. Written between painting sessions and also whilst raising a child, Blurrr is a record of loose and playful intuition. Robertson's vocals and guitar drift, murmur and whisper across the record; fostering a deep intimacy as unknown emotions rise up from the well. Robertson's intuitive approach to music making co-exists alongside her improvisatory and collaborative nature. She has collaborated regularly with artists such as Elias R?nnenfelt on Heavy Glory, Dean Blunt on Backstage Raver, and Black Metal, and Sidsel Meineche Hansen on Alien Baby. In Blurrr Robertson turns to previous collaborator and friend: cellist, composer and producer Oliver Coates.

THIRD EAR BAND Third Ear Band LP
"For many bands, having all their gear stolen would be catastrophic. For Third Ear Band, this unfortunate 1968 incident opened a portal to beneficial change. Leader/percussionist Glen Sweeney viewed the heist as a sign to alter Third Ear Band's approach, and they switched to exclusively using acoustic instruments. With electrified psychedelia in full bloom, Sweeney, Paul Minns (oboe, recorder, whistles, flutes) and Richard Coff (violin, viola) struck out on an individualistic path, blending Indian raga with chamber music -- without plugging in. Third Ear Band's 1969 debut album, Alchemy, established them as a solemn, powerful force in the global underground. On Alchemy, Sweeney laid down a steady pulse on hand drums, while Minns and Coff wove in melismatic patterns on oboe, recorder, violin and viola. This approach carried over to Third Ear Band's self-titled sophomore album, often called Elements due to its track titles being named after the four basic components of medieval European alchemists' doctrines. On this 1970 LP, Third Ear Band sounded at once ancient and contemporary, yet they turned on the hippies with their epic, trance-inducing jams that suggested secret knowledge of infinity. Although Third Ear Band flourished during the West's countercultural zenith, they were peculiarly estranged from it on a sonic level. Even outr? contemporaries such as Comus and Jan Dukes De Grey sounded like pop groups compared to TEB. Having no traditional front person or electric instruments, Third Ear Band forged a singular path that flowered most vividly on Elements. The long songs here stream forth from their skilled hands, evoking a communal transcendence in sound -- a hypnotic swirl that doesn't swing, but rather wafts and undulates with cloistered beauty. TEB's music exists in an eternal now, a perpetual wow. It is an ouroboros of organic textures, seemingly magicked into the air spontaneously, yet possessing a rigor that suggests long hours in the lab. Without electricity, it somehow burrowed deeper into your consciousness." --Dave Segal

Zopelar has built a distinguished place in the Brazilian electronic music industry. He is known as a complete and versatile DJ and music producer, and is a key figure in S?o Paulo's underground music scene. With his signature "retro-futuristic-funky-groovy" style, Zopelar has made some celebrated albums and EPs released by labels like Apron Records, Clone Records, Tartelet Records, Soul Clap Records and others. A prolific producer and sound designer, Zopelar's work extends beyond music production into the realm of contemporary art and film scoring. His sound pieces have been showcased in prestigious exhibitions and galleries, including New Museum (NYC) and the Venice Biennale. Zopelar is now back for his third solo release on Apron Records, titled Call it Love. It features Brazilian artist Ashira, who lays her beautiful voice over Zopelar classic R&B production. "Je t'aime" features French born Brazilian based L'Homme Statue plus Amsterdam's Retromigration giving a tropical and very hot Brazilian house for the dance floors. JASSS Eager Buyers LP
Spanish-born, Berlin-based artist JASSS, presents her third LP, Eager Buyers. It's the inaugural release on her own new platform called AWOS, which also encompasses musical, AV and art collaborations, live events, and a radio show. Eager Buyers is an observation of longing, of memory, of attempted connection, of lost innocence, and irreconcilable dreams. It's the sound of broken promises for a bright future, where rose-tinted glasses have lost their clarity, dirtied with disaffection over time. Across this sultry, smoky, cinematic epic, JASSS attempts to process mixed feelings amidst the modern malaise. Alluringly atmospheric and cerebral, but bold and direct, with high-spec sound design, JASSS spaces each element with expert definition. Searing swathes of noise nestle with crisp breakbeats, billowing bass, dark ambience, prepared piano, phosphorescent electronics and calibrated percussion. A sort of anti-nostalgia, the record lives in a contemporary purgatory of oblique moods which hover in the psyche, somewhere between uncertainty, foreboding, and guarded anticipation. The raw metal of bass guitar strings plays a key part too, ranging from ornate melodic phrases, shoegazy drones, and attitude-riven hard twangs. Vocals come from JASSS herself, plus James K and Alias Error on the track "It's A Hole." The heavy, hauntological atmospherics are in part due to the addition of field recordings -- the discreet, but spiritually-loaded incidental sounds of a place which can capture its history, with the acoustics somehow retaining an emotional imprint of lives long gone. If pressed for descriptive reference points, "masterfully-produced-post-punk-post-rockbaroque-gothy-dubby-trip-hop" might be a starting point, but that doesn't do it justice. Equally spectral in their dream-like quality are the musical signposts, where genre elements are familiar, but somehow also unplaceable, untethered from context, and beautifully strange in their new composite. At points there's an air of strangely dazed calm too -- a kind of frazzled cool in the face of desolation, and even tender, lighter moments, which glint through the cracks.

ADAMS, EVE American Dust CD
American Dust is an ode to the beauty of the American Southwest, where vast desert landscapes hold stories both stark and tender. Eve Adams' characteristic folk noir weaves a vivid tapestry of love, sacrifice and quiet revelation, conjuring images of dust storms, stray dogs and far off trains. Somewhere out there in that broad and boundless landscape, Eve Adams has been living her own desert life, quietly writing the follow-up to 2021's Metal Bird LP. Where that album sang of liminal space, the dream-like turbulence of Holly-wood's golden age, American Dust is far more rooted in traditional storytelling; a eulogy for the American Dream channeled through that sweeping part of the country that holds such power and mystery. Slipping into different and varied costumes throughout its ten songs, it finds Eve not just observing the people around her but stepping into their shoes and peeling back the layers of their quiet lives. Adams writes from within. Weaving together themes of grit and romance, American Dust holds its focus on the bittersweet poetry of lives lived in solitude, most notably the women who sustain life at the center of it all. Eve is joined on American Dust by Canadian musician Bryce Cloghesy, aka Military Genius of Crack Cloud, who plays throughout and also helped produce the album. Musically bold and vivid, it's an ambitious and detailed stride forward from what's come before, the scope of album's narrative reflected in the radiant sweep of the playing. On top of gentle piano and guitar, gorgeous strings drift through the album, lending the songs a woozy sense of romanticism; a collaboration with Gamaliel Traynor (Cello) and Caroline's Oliver Hamilton (Violin). Musically it's lush and vibrant, intimate and cinematic side by side, and always bursting with warmth. But it's what it holds in its weary bones that elevates it to something truly special, something more than just a collection of songs penned in the heart of the desert. The characters it speaks of, and from, feel shadowed but wholly real, like they're bursting to share their stories that have remained hidden for years and years and they allow Eve Adams to grow as a songwriter.

LA CHOOMA La Chooma LP
Psychedelic dub, Afro-Latin rhythms and cosmic grooves come together on La Chooma's self-titled debut for Batov Records. Drawing on Moroccan Gnawa, Colombian cumbia, Afrobeat, Jamaica dub and roots, and cosmic jazz, the six-piece ensemble create deep, hypnotic music rooted in global traditions and shaped for contemporary. Having already captivated local audiences with their hypnotic, organic live performances, La Chooma -- now a six-piece ensemble -- have been steadily building an international following. Initial singles "Magic Plant" and "Huachuma" earned support from tastemakers including BBC Radio 6 Music's Deb Grant and Tom Ravenscroft. "Magic Plant" distills the band's signature blend of hypnotic grooves, lush percussion and woozy synths, like Jimi Tenor lost in the Colombian Amazon. A dreamlike, dub-infused trip driven by organic rhythm and cosmic textures. "Huachuma" picks up the thread, fusing Afrobeat percussion, swirling basslines and psychedelic flourishes into a hallucinogenic jam made for a tropical dancefloor. "High Grow" conjures images of The X-Files set in Addis Ababa, with Ethiojazz-style synths dancing and tripping across a relentless Mulatu-inspired bassline and Afrobeat drums, all drenched in foreboding dub delay. Perfect for dark, smoke-filled rooms in the small hours. Like the lost child of Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids and The Comet Is Coming, "Lonely" hits like a sledgehammer of cosmic synth funk and intense Afrorock drums, riding an acoustic bassline that breaks into a frenetic solo after a minute. The drums constantly threaten to overwhelm, but open up for the spiraling synths to peak half way through the track. "Cozumel" follows seamlessly, moving to a slightly slower groove built on a deep electric bassline and irresistible four-to-the-floor Afro-Latin rhythms. Synths rise in harmony with the haunting call of the hand-carved Egyptian kawala flute as the energy builds in the third minute before the tension finally releases. There's something in the music's spiritual core and soulful presence that recalls the groundbreaking work of Jamaican legends Count Ossie and Cedric Brooks, who fused jazz with Rastafari drumming. La Chooma draw dotted lines across time and space, finding hidden connections and shared frequencies, pulling threads together into a sound that hypnotizes the mind and moves the body.

SABABA 5 & CANAY DOGAN & ITZHAK VENTURA Gaip/Seher 7"
Sababa 5 return with another essential 45 for Batov Records' Middle Eastern Groove series. This time, they team up with two very different artists on two distinct tracks built from the same hypnotic groove: soulful Turkish alt-pop sensation Canay Do?an and reed flute specialist Itzhak Ventura. After four albums and a strong run of 45s and EPs, plus support from tastemakers like Gilles Peterson, Cerys Matthews, Gideon Coe, and Jeremy Sole, Sababa 5 lay down a cinematic, slow-burning groove built for hazy summer days. Raz Man's crisp drumming locks in with Amir Sadot's psych-soul bassline. Though they share the same root groove, "Gaip" and "Seher" explore different moods and textures -- two individual pieces that complement each other while standing firmly on their own.

HAWKSHAW/BRIAN BENNETT, ALAN Full Circle LP
2025 restock. Alan Hawkshaw (piano/Hammond) and Shadow's drummer Brian Bennett are responsible for some of the slickest, funkiest and most sought-after library records ever made in the UK, particularly ones recorded on the legendary KPM label. Their work has now become the go-to place for sampling in music today. Artists such as Dilla, Nas, and the xx, right through to the billion-selling Kanye and Drake have taken Hawkshaw's and Bennett's immaculate beat-driven soundscapes for their own usage. Their new album, Full Circle, in a full, iconic KPM cover, is a return to the laidback jazz-funk that helped Alan and Brian demonstrate their library chops. The album is classic Hawkshaw/Bennett. It swings, it grooves, moves, and thrills with a flair these two have perfected over years. Standout tracks such as "Hole In One", "In The Clouds", "Interchange", "Oasis", "On The Nile" and "Corcovado" are no mere excursions in nostalgia, for they carry lots of deft studio work for which many a producer would give their right arm. Hawkshaw's arrangements allow the drums, guitar, bass, strings, Hammond, flute and brass to swirl elegantly around the 12 original tracks; a masterclass in recording. Cut by Pete Norman, housed in a beautifully designed Richard Robinson sleeve and pressed by Record Industry in Holland, this release has been afforded the care and attention it rightly deserves. Essential. 180 gram vinyl.

FREESTYLE FELLOWSHIP Innercity Griots 2LP
2025 repress. Innercity Griots, the second album from Freestyle Fellowship, is perhaps the essential West Coast left-field rap album of the early '90s. Released in 1993 on 4th & Broadway, it's a towering, progressive hip-hop masterpiece that expanded rap's boundaries through lyrical elevation and production innovation. Their talent was ahead of everybody else by light years. This is pure b-boy jazz. Be With reissue includes "Pure Thought" from the CD version of the album. Freestyle Fellowship were some of the earliest technically dazzling rappers to come out of California. Mikah 9, P.E.A.C.E., Aceyalone and Self Jupiter -- along with DJ Kiilu -- forged their famed lyrical dexterity in the ultra-competitive crucible of the Good Life Cafe. Founded in Leimert Park, South Central LA in December 1989, this earthy health-food store and cafe was where the city's finest microphone fiends would gather to showcase their freestyle skills at the Thursday night open-mic. Innercity Griots has been described as the Rosetta Stone for rap styles. The group's dense, vibrant wordplay and enviable interplay quickly earned the attention and respect of the city's hip-hop underground. Frenetically trading acrobatic rhymes with agility and grace, the Fellowship used their voices as instruments like true virtuosos, spraying improvised raps like a Coltrane sax solo. With the bulk of the album's production handled by The Earthquake Brothers, and Bambawar, Daddy-O, and Edman taking over for some of the tracks, Innercity Griots dances between organic and programmed music, largely forgoing sampling and instead built around live jazz jams. The likes of Freddie Hubbard's "Red Clay" and Miles Davis's "Black Comedy" were used more as templates for house band The Underground Railroad Band to spiral out from. As Pitchfork noted in their recent 9.0 review of this classic album, "Freestyle Fellowship embodied the style and spirit of jazz on a molecular level. They shared the effortless cool and tough countenance of the great bebop players from the '50s without verging into jazz-rap parody." The unusual approach to the music was matched by the Fellowship's lyrics. Eschewing the tired rap tropes of the time, this multifaceted album instead explores their ruminations on greed and homelessness, weed, sex, survival, insecurity and tribalism. Remastered by Simon Francis, cut by Pete Norman.

DAVIDSON, ETHAN DANIEL Cordelia LP
"Ethan Daniel Davidson's thirteenth studio album finds the veteran singer-songwriter exploring new creative territory while continuing down the beguiling and wondrous road that his discography has charted thus far. Cordelia is as lush and deeply felt as Davidson's music has ever been, with countrified balladry and unvarnished blues accompanying this journeyman's philosophical explorations and ruminations on his past, present, and future. Cordelia follows 2022's Stranger, which marked both a conclusion and a new beginning after a decade-plus of fruitful creative collaboration with Warren Defever of experimental rock legends His Name Is Alive. Davidson headed down south to link up with the North Mississippi Allstars frontman to shape the seven songs that became Cordelia -- a collection that takes a left-turn from the darkly shaded textures of Stranger and was sonically inspired by Davidson's love for the raw blues records that storied label Fat Possum were releasing in the 1090s. Joining Davidson and Dickinson on Cordelia: bassist and Emmylou Harris collaborator Byron House, drummer Marco Giovino (Robert Plant, John Cale), and multi-instrumentalist Rayfield 'Ray Ray' Holloman, who contributed pedal steel and piano across the record. Cordelia sounds robust and thoroughly lived-in, so the average listener might find it surprising to learn that Davidson and the band put these songs to tape within the span of three days total. As with Davidson's estimable catalogue, his lyricism is front and center across Cordelia, expressing his own specific worldview in a way that's informed by his Jewish faith as well as the tenets of Buddhism. The album's namesake is inspired by the titular daughter featured in Shakespeare's classic tragedy King Lear, who Davidson finds a sense of personal kinship with. The refrain of Cordelia's swooning penultimate track 'Along in the Wind and the Rain' borrows from the song that the play's fool sings, and within this mirroring Davidson reflects on his own travels as a human being amidst his life's experiences."

PROPAGANDA Remix Encounters CD
Electronic pioneers Propaganda follow up their acclaimed 2024 comeback with Remix Encounters, a broad and brilliant remix album featuring Moby, Tangerine Dream, Rhys Fulber, Schiller, and more. Released on Bureau B, this remix collection reflects the enthusiasm Propaganda's return after three decades of silence has ignited among contemporary artists, who approached the project with fresh energy and creative freedom."Since breaking new ground with their seminal 1985 debut A Secret Wish and its pioneering remix companion Wishful Thinking, Propaganda have thrived on transformation. Yet rather than revisiting the past, Remix Encounters looks forward, building on the vitality of last year's album and celebrating its widespread critical and fan acclaim. What began as a remix request from Finnish electronic maestro Jori Hulkkonen, returning the favor after Ralf D?rper's contribution to his last album, quickly blossomed into an international collaboration, drawing in luminaries such as Moby, Tangerine Dream, Rhys Fulber (Front Line Assembly, Delerium), and Schiller. Embracing openness, Propaganda spent the fourth quarter of 2024 encouraging the wide range of musicians inspired by their triumphant return to offer their own interpretations. Each brought their distinctive voice to the material, resulting in a thrilling journey through electronic subgenres, from EBM and industrial to rave, ambient, house, and beyond. Rhys Fulber opens the album with a brooding, machine-funk reinvention of 'They Call Me Nocebo,' evolving from a sleek, sinuous introduction into a relentless pneumatic stomp. Next, Schiller offers a powerful remix of 'Distant' that balances raw electro-house and techno energy with the emotional depth of EBM, before Moby transforms 'Purveyor of Pleasure' into a furious early-'90s rave anthem, fusing breakbeats and rolling basslines that pulse with nostalgic urgency yet feel unmistakably modern. Elsewhere, Finnish polymath Jimi Tenor infuses 'Vicious Circle' with cosmic jazz and dub textures, while Pyrolator, a key figure in D?sseldorf's avant-garde scene, delivers a shadowy reinterpretation of 'LoveCraft.' Cult With No Name also contribute a brooding electro-ballad version of the same track. Propaganda's own Michael Mertens teams up with longtime collaborator Hans Steingen to re-envision 'Dystopian Waltz,' shifting its time signature to a gripping 4/4 and intensifying its ominous mood for darker dance floors. The range of remixers speaks volumes: from industrial punks Gewalt and synth purists Metroland to ambient pioneers Tangerine Dream, Remix Encounters unites an eclectic group of electronic artists bound by a shared reverence for innovation and Propaganda's distinctive voice." --Patrick Ryder

BRITISH STEREO COLLECTIVE, THE Iniquitous LP
Originally released June 28, 2024. With 2021's Mystery Fields, Phil Heeks delivered a stunning homage to 1970s library LPs and soundtrack compilations, in his debut record as The British Stereo Collective. The long-awaited sequel Iniquitous brings together two-decades-worth of TV music from an alternate reality. Says Phil: "I feel that Volume 2 nails the concept of the TV themes compilation much more successfully, being more varied and more expansive, and with greater authenticity." Once again, this volume of the "Sound Library" is a heart-felt homage to a beloved era of classic themes and channel idents, inspired by the combined influences of Vangelis, Jeff Wayne, Peter Howell, Mike Oldfield, Jean-Michel Jarre, Tangerine Dream, Barry Gray, Francis Monkman, Paddy Kingsland, and countless others. Pressed up on beautiful "green leaves" vinyl and featuring a TV Times referencing insert, the album works as a complete and aesthetically gorgeous time capsule for those who are perennially nostalgic for the golden age of TV. Melodic, eclectic, part-electronic, part-traditional, Iniquitous sits comfortably among your Geoff Love and BBC Themes albums and adds to the ever expanding and impressive body of work that Phil is building.

APTA Submerge LP
Released November 3, 2023. A special Submerge 12" featuring a bunch of reworks of this pivotal track from Apta's album The Pool. Kicking things off, Apta's own rework of the original sees the shadowy textures and droning wall-of-sound backdrop turned into a static-strewn dreamland of a piece, underpinned by a flickering guitar riff, cracked snare drums and fuzzed-out Odyssey strokes before launching into the euphoric half-time vocal refrain. The follow-up sees Clay Pipe boss, illustrator and musician step into her Hardy Tree guise for a beautifully hypnotic waft of wistful folk-tinged electronics and shimmering ambient textures. It's warmly nostalgic, and packed full of all the feel of a lovely Clay Pipe release. Following on from that, modular wizard Polypores takes pieces of the original and stretches them into an organic swell of texture and movement, warping the low basses and flickering modular plinks (and/or plonks) into a beautiful, undulating wall. Flip over and it's none other than the brilliant Pye Corner Audio, providing an organically blooming suite of saturated percussion and woozy drifting oscillators, in peak PCA fashion. There are few artists that can do as much as with little as Martin Jenkins can, and hearing his audio sunshine underpinning the vocal line is breathtaking. It's good to get the ears nice and soothed too before the aural assault and hypnotic spirit-cleansing heft of the legendary Gnod. Dubby throbbing bass and cavernous reverb tear the original into shards and piece it together as a churning, industrial powerhouse before shooting the rest into the endless reaches of space. Closing things out on a space theme is the ideal way to do things too, with Field Lines Cartographer's remix taking things waaay into the outer reaches. Grounding bass churns and stellar synth sweeps float below the modulated vocal line, resulting in a perfectly crafted drone, rich in melody but untethered to the earth.

ORCHIDS, THE Lyceum 2LP
Double LP version. Hailing from the suburbs of Glasgow, this five-piece are best known for their three starry-eyed albums on the renowned Sarah Records -- this being an expanded version of their first (an eight-track 10" at the time). By the tail end of the 1980s the independent music scene in the UK was turning its back on the polish and over-indulgence of the mid-'80s with its gated drums and wallpaper production. And those who weren't stretching the boundaries of sonic innovation had tuned back to the post-punk ethos of ramshackle charm and zealous melody, even dousing the spirit with some political fervor once more. Influences were more likely to be Television and the Television Personalities than MTV. The Orchids and The Sea Urchins were the first two bands to release 7" singles on the Sarah label having previously begun their recording existence on a shared flexi disc in 1987 (The Sea Urchins went on to become Delta, whose classic album Slippin' Out from 2000 will be the second release on Circuitry). The Scottish five-piece released I've Got a Habit and Underneath the Window, Underneath the Sink as EPs before really finding their feet with Lyceum; the tracks, remastered from the original Toad Hall tapes are included on this reissue as are the three songs from the "What Will We Do Next?" 7" (this collection closes with the frazzled stretch that is "Yawn"). Lyceum was originally released in August 1989. The album opens with "It's Only Obvious" and its gloriously youthful chorus of "who needs tomorrow when all I need, all I needed was you." James Hackett somehow appears both forthright and rejected, something that one of their musical heroes The Go-Betweens also had down to a fine art. It barely takes a breath until midway through side two where "Hold On" (sounding suspiciously like an unlikely objective) descends into the intro of "Blue Light," the counted-in "1, 2, 3, 4" whispered like the most hopelessly dejected rally. If that sounds depressing it isn't. This record by The Orchids was a spirited source of comfort for an 18-year-old at the time and still shudders with the best type of melancholy, one that's spirited not indulgent. If you're not familiar with the band's charm, this is where you should begin.

CRANES John Peel Sessions (1989-1990) (White Vinyl) LP
Limited-edition of 500 worldwide on white vinyl. The first in a series of archival releases from Cranes, the band's John Peel Sessions are collected for the first time. Artwork by feted 4AD/v23 sleeve designer Chris Bigg (Cocteau Twins, Pixies etc). Formed in mid-1980s Portsmouth by the brother and sister duo of Jim Shaw (drummer, keyboardist, guitarist, programmer) and Alison Shaw (vocalist, guitarist, bassist), Cranes first appeared in 1986 with Fuse, a self-released and now highly sought-after cassette of demos. Their debut album Self-Non-Self followed in 1989, catching the attention of legendary DJ John Peel, who invited them to record two sessions for his show in 1989 and 1990, the second seeing Mark Francombe (guitarist, keyboardist, bassist) and Matt Cope (guitarist) join ranks to form the line-up who would go on to record multiple albums for Dedicated including the much-loved album, Forever. Cranes now present John Peel Sessions (1989-1990) on their own Dadaphonic label.

CRANES Fuse (Magenta Vinyl) LP
Limited-edition of 500 worldwide on magenta vinyl. The Fuse album was remastered at Abbey Road in 2023. The album includes an extra unheard track from the period called New Liberty. Artwork is by Chris Bigg of V23. The second in a series of archive releases by Cranes, Fuse was recorded in Portsmouth, their home town by siblings Alison and Jim Shaw. It originally appeared as a cassette album in 1986 on the Bite Back! label. With an initial run of only 200 copies, over the years this album, with its distinctive purple cover has been highly sought after amongst fans, often exchanging hands for more than ?100. Fuse showcases a sparser, darker and more industrial, post punk sound. From the hypnotic allure and rhythmic intensity of the title track to the ferocious and challenging beats of Wrench, the songs are just as mesmerizing as Cranes' later, critically acclaimed releases. Recorded in a garage on a 4-track porta-studio, the band spent many months experimenting and became obsessed with the recording process. Jim Shaw used a very early sampling pedal to create the drum sounds, which were all individually triggered. The only and first "industry" person to hear anything by Cranes at this time was Martin Hannett (legendary producer of Joy Division and New Order). He was looking for unsigned bands to appear on a new music TV show in Manchester and so Ian Binnington from Bite Back! sent him a compilation tape of many Portsmouth bands. Hannett picked out "Fuse (Original Version)" by Cranes and told Ian that the track was "fucking great."

GINA X Greatest Fits 2LP
"Gina X makes her way to Dark Entries for Greatest Fits, a compilation of gems and jams from the eccentric new wave icon. Gina X Performance was formed in Cologne in 1978 when art history student and chanteuse Gina Kikoine teamed up with synth wizard Zeus B. Held. Inspired by Patti Smith and Lou Reed, Kikoine aimed to create 'the absolute union of music, poetry and travesty,' a lofty goal that she most certainly would achieve. 1979 saw the release of the classic first LP, Nice Mover, which put Held's lush electronic production in dialogue with Gina X's deadpan delivery. Songs explore androgyny, decadence, and avant-garde art in a fashion that is stylish, sexy, and more than a touch transgressive. Nice Mover quickly became a cult favorite thanks to tracks like the euphoric 'Nice Mover' and the dancefloor bomb 'No G.D.M.,' dedicated to queer icon Quentin Crisp. Three more LPs followed in the coming years: X-Traordinaire in 1980; Voyeur in 1981; and Yinglish in 1984. The duo continued their genre deviance throughout, exploring uptempo space disco on 'Strip Tease,' punk-laced New Wave on 'Babylon Generation,' and icy electro-pop on 'French Lift.' Greatest Fits is the first-ever double LP compilation of Gina X material. The 17 tracks on Greatest Fits were selected by Kikoine and Held, reflecting the duo's most cherished moments from their wide-ranging catalog. The record comes housed in a gatefold sleeve designed by Eloise Shir-Juen Leigh featuring press clippings and photographs, and includes an insert with lyrics and memories about each song from Kikoine and Held."

FUGAZI In On The Kill Taker LP
2025 restock; on crystal vellum colored vinyl. Fugazi's third album, originally released in 1993. Remastered with full color inner sleeve. "Part of this album's beauty is the track list. It begins with the upbeat number 'Facet Squared' which is almost pop-punkish in its delivery. Essentially the tracking of the album begins it with the lightest material and by the end you're cast into Guy's own torments with the quiet brooding 'Last Chance For A Slow Dance.' The middle of the album is almost completely dedicated to the noise experimental side of Fugazi, especially the centerpiece and half-instrumental '23 Beats Off,' a soundscape of harsh noise that supposedly reflects the deterioration of a relationship... With Guy's brilliant performance, lyrically and vocally, walls of sound encapsulate his pleas of 'Why don't you come to my house? Why don't you drag me right out?'. It is truly one of the most beautiful yet aggressive songs in Fugazi's vast library." -- Sputnik Music

DE OLIVEIRA, JOCY Raga na Amazonia LP
2025 restock, last copies, reduced price. For the first time on vinyl, this compilation brings excerpts from electroacoustic pieces written by Jocy de Oliveira from 1987 to 1993. It is rather fascinating Jocy de Oliveira's journey as a creative and sensitive inhabitant of our planet. She is a masterful composer, interpreter, multimedia artist, and storyteller. Her pieces are influenced by the avant-garde of the 20th century and all cultures and languages on Earth, emphasizing the importance of feminism, science, and the environment. Jocy started composing at the age of six and was introduced to piano studies at a very young age by her mother who was a poet and pianist. In 1959 she recorded A M?sica S?culo XX de Jocy (1960), an "Anti-Bossa Nova" record that was not understood by anyone in the '50s, but 62 years latter it became a cult classic (and has just been reissued). Her talent and dedication brought her to work alongside 20th-century music masters such as Igor Stravinsky, Oliver Messaien, Luciano Berio, Claudio Santoro, John Cage, Xenaxis, and Karlheinz Stockhausen. This became a vital experience in her artistic life and she performed world premieres of works by many of these great composers. Jocy witnessed and experienced the rupture of several paradigms of Western music. She incorporated serialism and electroacoustics, dialogued with ritualistic music and indeterminacy that boomed in the revolutionary 1960s. This album is dedicated to a production that goes from the mid-80s to the early '90s. On side A, "Oniric" presents electronic music performed in real-time along with voice. The following pieces are two ragas: "O Contar De Uma Raga" (Telling Of A Raga), and "Raga na Amaz?nia" (Raga in the Amazon) and last is "Solaris" with Ricardo Rodrigues on reeds and oboe. In all these pieces Jocy plays the keyboards. Jocy plays synthesizers in all tracks and is accompanied by great musicians as Ayrton Pinto, Joseph Celli, Sang Won Park, Ricardo Rodrigues, and Anna Maria Kieffer. The LP comes with an insert with unseen photos and two texts, one by Jocy de Oliveira and other by the musician and researcher Paulo Beto.

CARDOSO, GONCALO F. Impressoes de Varias Ilhas (Recordings from Macaronesia) LP
After impressions of Unguja and Borneo islands, Discrepant's chieftain Gon?alo F. Cardoso continues his sonic travelogue on insularity with Impress?es de V?rias Ilhas. Literally translated as "impressions from various islands," this third tome dwells on recordings and inspirations from three archipelagos of Macaron?sia. Soaking in the sounds and recollections from Azores, Cape Verde and Canary Islands these diaristic endeavors spread throughout a number of real environments, from water caves and black stone beaches and lagoons to small harbors and everyday life scenarios, to project them into this not quite imaginary but not quite real memory haze that goes from a deeply personal impression to a resonating one. Melding raw field recordings with processed ones and synthesized landscapes, Cardoso never falters into sonic tour-ism, conjuring small-ish takes both vivid and dreamy, infused with a sense of wonder that feels both bewildering, com-forting and escapist. The breaking waves of "Bufadeiros de S?o Vicente" soothing in their irregular pattern, mingling with the lone echoing tones not completely removed from Black Dice's "Beaches & Canyon's" most pensive passages, flow into the underwater ambience and suspended pads of "La Cueva Scuba Livre," as reflections of the same sea crashing in on different lands, nature's psychogeography. Further on, the queasy warm chord and scraping murmurs of "Noite em Rabo de Peixe" mirror their nighttime framing while "R?s em Xoxo" veers closer to pure musique concr?te, crossed by a subdued feeling of unease that lingers in the nostalgia of "Cozido da Caldeira Velha," brimming within the haze of a Boards of Canada vignette. Summoning the past lives and future hauntings of its scenery, "Salinas de Pedra Lume" is like the quiet epic of the album, meandering into the unknown among crackling field recordings, decaying synths and flute-like howls -- or is it howl-like flutes? -- recurring as glimpses from foregone existences, not necessarily Gon?alo's own.

DJ SNIFF Turntable Solos LP
DJ Sniff returns to Discrepant with a direct and visceral document: Turntable Solos. Composed from live recordings made during the latter half of 2024, Turntable Solos captures DJ Sniff's improvised performances in their rawest form. At the core of his setup is Cut 'n' Play, a software sampler he originally built in Max/MSP in 2007. Since then, he has continued developing custom tools and instruments that extend what Derek Bailey called the "instrumental impulse" -- the tactile, responsive relationship between musician and machine that defines improvisation. Following a summer 2024 tour of Japan with Gon?alo Cardoso, Sniff was encouraged to document and release a selection of his live sets. Not long after, a performance at 20? (Alpha) in Hong Kong would become the emotional and conceptual anchor for the project. In the liner notes, Sniff reflects on the eerie parallels between footage of protestors in Los Angeles -- assaulted by police using so-called "less-lethal" weapons, and civilians being abducted into detention centers -- and the 2019 Hong Kong protests. A place once filled with personal nostalgia began to feel like a grim foreshadowing of what might unfold in Western societies. In this turbulent context, 20? stands out as a space of resistance and renewal -- a beacon for a new generation of experimental musicians, growing in defiance of increasing censorship and surveillance. Turntable Solos is both a personal statement and a public act of sonic resilience.

U.S. MAPLE Talker LP
2025 repress. "Starting in the mid-'90s, the U.S. Maple saga was rent open, seam by seam, over ten long, sweaty years, like a ripple of mirages exploding up around the bend. Theirs was a dues-paid elevation of good old rock 'n roll values that reached dizzyingly high, past the blunt force of their immediate '80s- '90s forebears and the magisterial arc of the venerated classic rockers before them. Their music is a rapacious, constantly morphing ooze through which can be sighted gristled flecks and shards of glam, punk, blues, metal, funk, jazz and other denuded musical formations to be grabbed upon and squeezed til the juice runs down your leg. Talker, their Drag City debut, came on in the summer of 1999, its discrete shades of soundscape yawning like an open fly, dangling like shirttails through silence into previously unimagined spaces of width and depth. Having Swans' Michael Gira on to produce was big, but bigger still was the group's vigilant sense of what they were up to -- at that exact moment, a sequence of 'back to school' reflections with singer Al Johnson as your skeezy JD/Virgilian guide. Their tactile cloak of intimacies/detritus/little jokes/lucid dreams/vast emptiness was the perfect cover for a deceptive populism."

Released in April 2001, Acre Thrills is the most danceable, sensual and subcutaneous of all their offerings, 'Ma Digital' their most kicking song EVER. It ain't alone -- captured by Brian Paulson, the workings of the trio within the quartet were greased to absolute slickness, with Todd Rittmann/Mark Shippy's guitars and Pat Samson's drums collectively divining and conquering the songs' rhythm and harmony, while also playing in what appeared to be their own private imaginations. With his signature succession of consumptive wheezes and acid-tongued utterances, Al Johnson -- for some, the most unlikely front man of the rock 'n roll era (and to others, their own private Jim Morrison) -- drew it all together immaculately."

Their final LP, recorded with Jeremy Lemos, Purple On Time dropped in late 2003, and found new drummer Adam Vida cannily replacing the fairly departed Pat Samson. With consolidations and developments heavy on the ground, the band once more surged and retarded in near-orchestral precision, as Johnson's voice swooped through fresh ranges. The songs were tangy, more rock than ever, yet just as potent when it came to drawing forth that thrusting, demented hip-shake that they induced in 'their faithful.'"

EDENA GARDENS Dispossessed CD
Stripping away excess layers, Dispossessed lives up to its title. The band went into Causa Sui's Jonas Munk's studio on the last day of February 2025. In an a priori session, the first note played together since 2023's Dens (EPR 075CD) -- the conclusion of a trilogy and a live album all in less than a year. Has something shifted during the silence? Added aggression? Faster tempo? Darker ambiance? The feeling of losing time? Or is it simply the listener whose world has tilted? In a fast-paced world, Edena Gardens shows listeners how to resist and tune to their own inner chord. Edena Gardens deals in subtle shifts that can only be summoned from something played for the first time. From the sludgy blasts of opener "Hiraeth" to the droning ambience of 10-minute ender "Aftenstjerne." As always, the band travels far yet stays in the same internal realm. The band's own Jakob Sk?tt has made minor edits to cut a record from hours of free improvisation, and every dubbed ambience has been culled directly from the material recorded that day, bringing into play the band's gestalt in a way that shows their both outer and inner workings: Dispossessed. HURLEY, MICHAEL Blue Navigator LP
2025 restock."Pleased as punch are we to be reissuing Michael Hurley's long-lost 1984 album, Blue Navigator. Admittedly, Secret Seven and Mississippi collaborated on a dandy 8-track version a decade ago, but the record has mostly been available as an obscure import CD -- if at all -- for many a year. The reason for this is that the Rooster Records HQ burned down in 1987, taking master tapes, extra covers and whatever else there was with it. This was a general bummer, but especially so for us Hurley fans, since his final LP with Rounder was Snockgrass in 1980, and he didn't hook up with Fundamental to do Watertower until 1987. The disappearance of Blue Navigator from this earth left a sizable hole. Which we'd now like to think has been plugged. Recorded with a cast of Northern Vermont hepcats including guitarist Jon Weber (of Dan Hicks' original Hot Licks), head Rooster William Wright on guitar and mandolin, Nancy Beavan on vocals, Gordon Stone on pedal steel and various other goners, all playing some sweet rural swing displaying exactly how Hurley became the toast of the snowmobile club circuit during his days in the North Country. A mix of old favorites -- 'Werewolf,' 'Open Up (Eternal Lips)' -- new favorites -- 'Code of the Mountains,' 'Ghost Woman Blues' -- and even a re-write -- 'Blue Navigator' -- it's a great, very casual sounding session, revealing more layers the more you listen. The instrumentation varies a lot between tunes, but the music always flows with Snocky grace and assurance. For this reissue, Michael has written a set of illustrated liner notes that scoot around just the way his conversation does on a long car ride. Which makes me miss the open road as much as anything else today. Just close your eyes, sink back into the music on Blue Navigator and pretend you're drifting through the hills and valleys of the Green Mountain State on your way to a cold growler of beer. You'll soon feel like a million bucks. Promise!" --Byron Coley, 2020

ARTIFICIAL GO Hopscotch Fever (Color Vinyl) LP
Back in print on brand new opaque red vinyl with new cover art. "Artificial Go is a four-piece hailing from the DIY post-punk scene of Cincinnati, Ohio. Local labels Feel It and Future Shock have teamed up to co-release Artificial Go's debut album, Hopscotch Fever. Consisting of eight tight tracks, this debut is just that: an introduction. A little bit mercurial, a little bit iconic. Artificial Go is operating out of their own genre -- not quite post-punk, not quite pop. Hopscotch Fever seems to have been recorded just outside of the collective-genre-periphery to form some sort of extraterrestrial kind of music. With angular guitar breaks, bouncing rhythms, and jolting vocals, Artificial Go is truly here on their own terms." --Jacob Mouser

OL' DIRTY BASTARD Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version 2LP
2025 repress. "It's safe to say that hip-hop has never seen an album like Ol' Dirty Bastard's 1995 solo debut Return to the 36 Chambers. The brief glimpses of ODB's unhinged genius provided by Wu-Tang Clan's landmark Enter the Wu-Tang album two years earlier were begging to be expanded on to a larger canvas, and, with RZA guiding production, the album promised to give Dirty the creative license to make one of the most bizarre, entertaining and original LPs in hip-hop history. With his raspy, drunken flow and dark sense of humor, Dirty fearlessly attacks from all angles, throwing himself fearlessly into punchy rhyme attacks ('Damage,' with GZA), drugged-out party jams (the monster singles 'Brooklyn Zoo' and 'Shimmy Shimmy Ya') and bizarre, grimly hilarious fantasies of sex and violence ('Don't U Know' and the R&B-tinged 'Sweet Sugar Pie'). Backed by RZA's appropriately gritty, dissonant beats and appearances from the Clan, Return became an instant hit, selling over 1 million copies and earning a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap Album in 1996. The album stands as a high water mark in the Wu Tang Clan's collective creative output and was selected as one of the Best 100 Rap Albums by The Source magazine in 1998. In honoring the legacy of one of hip-hop's most innovative releases, Get On Down is proud to present this incredible and unique special edition of Ol' Dirty Bastard's Return to the 36 Chambers as a double LP which contains the complete original album, remastered for optimal sound quality." GOOD ONES, THE Rwanda Sings with Strings CD
The celebrated Rwandan folk duo returns with a resonant fifth album, Rwanda Sings with Strings. The record combines their signature earthy vocals and acoustic instrumentation (guitar and hand percussion) with atmospheric cello and violin arrangements, creating a soundscape that vividly brings to life their powerful stories of resilience, memory, and longing. Recorded 100% live without overdubs in a hotel room by Grammy-winning producer Ian Brennan (Tinariwen, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, Parchman Prison Project), the album delivers an unusually intimate listening experience. Reflective, unfiltered and deeply human. For The Good Ones' fifth album, Ian Brennan scheduled a cellist and violinist to accompany the duo. The entire album was recorded in single takes without written scores or demos. The arrangements were improvised on the fly by the two string players who also didn't know each other. Within minutes of meeting all four musicians were recording -- their only communication, musical. "It was all an experiment," reports producer Ian Brennan, "but the second the strings entered during the intro of 'Agnes Dreams of Being an Artist,' it felt like the room began levitating and there was no doubt that something magical and profoundly beautiful was occurring. The album is extraordinarily ethereal -- even by their high standards." The session fulfilled the group's long-held dream to have main writer, guitarist, and lead vocalist, Adrien Kazigira's songs performed with strings. Sequestered in a Washington, DC hotel room the day prior to The Good Ones NPR "Tiny Desk" session, the musicians recorded nineteen songs in just three hours. Kazigira was so happy with the experience, afterwards, he wrapped his arms around the cello, as he lay chuckling and exhausted on the couch. The album's sound is steeped in a romanticism, longing, and a sense of resigned grandeur that echoes Malian balladeers like Boubacar Traor? or even Nick Drake and Astral Weeks. Perfect Sunday morning listening. Decidedly an underground group, The Good Ones' renown is nonetheless evidenced by the stellar musicians who've collaborated with them in the past, including members of Wilco, TV on the Radio, Sleater-Kinney, My Bloody Valentine, and Fugazi, and also by the vocal supporters that they've attracted such as Led Zeppelin legend Robert Plant. Kazigira states, "We are so thankful that music has taken us so many places that we never dreamed of visiting. And this new album has given us hope and really carried us through the hard times."

Now imagine a floating state of the art studio on that lake with two maverick rock icons creating a wild, alchemical concept album: Hugo Race, frontman of Australian post-punk legends The Wreckery and guitarist for the Bad Seeds and leader of True Spirit and Fatalists, and Gianni 'Marok' Maroccolo, producer of Italian alternative music and film soundtracks since the 1980s Florence darkwave scene with Litfiba, CSI & CCCP. Together, they fuse an existential narrative made up of individual stories in the style of Boccaccio's Decameron with psychedelic soundscapes framed by experimental electronica, rock instrumentation and decades of experience as cutting-edge musicians and studio producers to bring you an album that defies categorization.

CULTURE Cumbolo LP
2025 repress, originally released 1979. . "As roots reggae harmony groups go, Culture has always been a bit unique. Wholly dominated by the mystical and strangely charismatic lead singer and songwriter Joseph Hill, Culture has always dealt in simple (some would say simplistic) and yet absurdly catchy melodies, astringent harmonies and lyrics of the very dreadest character -- very few love songs, very few party songs, just lots and lots of dire warnings issued to Babylon and its fellow travellers. Although the band is most commonly praised for its work with producer Joe Gibbs (most notably the stone classic Two Sevens Clash album), many the tracks Culture recorded under the supervision of Sonia Pottinger are every bit as good, and Cumbolo includes ten of the best of those. Just about every song here counts as a highlight, but 'Natty Never Get Weary,' 'Poor Jah People,' and a charming adaptation of 'This Train' are all particularly good. And the backup is provided by a shifting contingent of Jamaica's studio aristocracy that includes Sly & Robbie, Ansel Collins, and 'Deadly' Headley Bennett, among other luminaries. Highly recommended." --Rick Anderson, AllMusic

SUN RA Live in Roma 1980 3LP BOX
2025 restock on LP. Born Herman Poole Blount in Alabama during 1914, Sun Ra first emerged on the Chicago jazz scene during the late 1940s. One of the great avant-garde composers of his generation -- leading the way on piano, organ, and (eventually) synthesizer -- beginning in the mid-1950s and lasting until his death in 1993, led the Arkestra, a band through which a near countless number of important artists passed and collaborated with, and many remained for the duration of their careers, notably Marshall Allen, John Gilmore, and June Tyson. Known for their wild costumes and theatrics, Ra's eccentric image and claims that he was from Saturn was deeply political, imagining an alternate social order, history, and future for African Americans that rests as a pioneering force in the Afro-Futurist movement. Recorded live at Teatro Giulio Cesare on March 28, 1980, comprising an astounding 27 compositions, including the highly celebrated "Astro Black," "Mr. Mystery," "Romance of Two Planets," "Space Is the Place," "We Travel the Spaceways," and "Calling Planet Earth," over six vinyl sides. High among the greatest live gigs by the Arkestra captured on tape, carefully mastered by Matt Bordin at Outside Inside Studio, Live in Rome 1980 is a near perfect snapshot of the band's versatility and range, including many of their most notably and famous songs, as well as striking renditions of the Horace Henderson penned Benny Goodman number "Big John's Special," Fletcher Henderson's "Yeah Man!," and "Limehouse Blues," displaying Ra's willingness to address and rework the entire, diverse history of jazz in a single go. Heard in its totality, perhaps what makes Live in Rome 1980 most striking is the way in which the concert plays out. Roughly the first half encounters the band locked in some of the most out-there, free jazz fire that can be imagined, weaving a startling sense of interplay and furious energy into a brilliant tapestry of writhing sonority, the likes of which were only really achieved by this band. The second half, with only moments of exception that return to the furious energy of the first, is a very different affair, easy toward the vocal standards, led by June Tyson's vocals and the joyous collective chanting of the band, for which they have become so widely celebrated, threading the sounds of off-kilter big band swing with heavy grooves and imagines of outer space.

NONO, LUIGI Fragmente: Stille, An Diotima LP
2025 restock; edition of 300 copies. Gold foil printed sleeve. Includes 12-page booklet and two leporello inserts printed on translucent paper. On the centenary of the birth of Luigi Nono, the Maurice Quartet -- Georgia Privitera (violin), Laura Bertolino (violin), Francesco Vernero (viola), and Aline Privitera (cello) -- reinterprets the composition for string quartet by the Venetian composer: Fragmente: Stille, An Diotima, dedicated to LaSalle Quartet on the occasion of the thirtieth Beethovenfest in Bonn, in 1980. The driving force of inspiration must have been Beethoven, understood as a radical innovator of the conventions of his time. This same definition was attributed to Nono after composing this work, so much so that the critics of the time spoke of the "turning point work." An extreme chamber music work, at the same time private and political, which Nono himself summarized as follows: "I have not changed at all. Even tenderness, the private has its collective, political side. Therefore my String Quartet is not the expression of a new retrospective line in me, but rather my current position of experimentation: I want the great, rebellious affirmation with the minimum means." The edition includes a set of evocative photographs of the Giudecca in Venice -- which follow the aesthetics of the fragment -- realized by Sophie-Anne Herin and a precious musicological contribution by Francesca Scigliuzzo. The Maurice Quartet -- active for more than twenty years in the field of experimentation between contemporary music, electronics and multimedia -- joins the numerous homages that the world of music pays to Nono one hundred years after his birth with a recording work of great philological and interpretative relevance, aimed at capturing the most intimate and feverish side of one of the most significant composers of the last century.

ZJACA, RATKO Touching Minds LP
"Ratko Zjaca is back with a very distinctive world music project that finds the Croatian-born guitarist and long-time resident of Rotterdam interacting with musicians from Romania, England and India. The results of his 18th outing as a leader or co-leader are staggeringly beautiful and full of improvisational daring. Joined by Romanian cimbalom player Marius Preda, who is widely regarded as the world's first jazz soloist on that trapezoidal stringed instrument that is the distant cousin of a hammered dulcimer, along with British-born upright bassist Nick McGuire and the innovative, groundbreaking percussionist Trilok Gurtu, Zjaca and his interactive crew strike an uncanny accord on the eight delightful originals presented on Touching Minds. With Zjaca bringing in all the compositions and Preda doing the arranging, they recruited McGuire for his rock-solid fundamental bass work. They next brought in Bombay-born Gurtu, an acclaimed master of the tabla who has also developed an abundance of chops over the decades on a hybrid drumming kit he designed and pioneered through his collaborations with John McLaughlin, Joe Zawinul, Bill Laswell, Jonas Hellborg, Jack Bruce, Terje Rydpal, Oregon, the Ark? String Quartet and many others. Throughout Touching Minds, Gurtu brings the groove while also coloring the proceedings with nuanced shadings. 'I wanted a new sound for this album and the tabla and cimbalom together moved it all to a new spectrum. And when you have two of world's best players on their respective instruments, which Trilok and Marius are, you have some very special ingredients to make some incredible music,' Zjaca says. While he may have soaked up the influences of countless guitarists he has listened to and emulated at different times over the years, from Joe Pass and Jim Hall to John McLaughlin and Pat Metheny, he described his guiding principle throughout Touching Minds as: 'I play what I hear and what the music asks of me at that moment.'"

OZKENT, MUSTAFA Genclik Ile Elele LP
2025 repress, black vinyl. "Originally released in Turkey 1973, ?zkent's masterpiece (creation) of an all instrumental Turkish Psychedelic Funk album, filled with classic beats and breaks still inspires long time fans and first time listeners. The funky rhythms, hypnotic percussions, and heavy break beats makes this a holy grail amongst DJ's and music fans alike. Only a handful of copies from the original pressing are known to still exist making this reissue a welcome addition to any record collection. The concept is very complicated, futuristic and free from categorization. Traditional folk songs mixed with rock, jazz, blues, funk and psych. ?zkent took traditional turkish folk songs and reconstructed them for the new 'hip' generation. It was recorded live in just one day with some of the best studio musicians in Turkey. The band was made up of 2 drummers, 2 guitarists, 2 percussionists, a bassist and a Hammond B3 organist. ?zkent created his own unique guitar sound by adding extra frets and a clutch of effect pedals in order to create quarter notes and emulate turkish traditional scales. Mustafa ?zkent has since made arrangements for hundreds of other artists in Turkey. But this unique album documents his most revered work. In the more than 40 years since the Mustafa ?zkent Ve Orkestras? recorded Gen?lik ?le Elele, it seems that the world is still just discovering this gem."

SOUTHERN FOLD, THE 5 (+2) Live From The Southern Fold LP
The Southern Fold was formed in Kilkenny, Ireland in 2014 by singer/guitarist/songwriter Emlyn Holden. Incorporating elements of country, blues and gospel music into a folks/Roots sound, influences from sources as far and wide as Hank Williams and Nirvana can be found. Holden first picked up a guitar at age 10 when he heard Elvis Presley and was totally immersed in those old Sun recordings in his early teens. Moving on towards Roots rockers Creedence Clearwater Revival and into punk rock, he forged an eclectic backdrop of inspirations to draw from. Discovering alt country pioneers Uncle Tupelo and Wilco brought the country back into his songwriting and set him on the road to The Southern Fold. Initially starting out as a duo in the style of Gram Parsons/Emmylou Harris, the band's first EP -- 2016's A True Ascension from the Wayward Path included five originals plus a cover of "Where Did You Sleep Last Night." It was a stripped-down folk-country affair coupled with deeply personal lyrics and extra instrumentation provided by piano, cello and electric guitar. A few years of heavy gigging followed, and by the time full length album Bible Fear's came along in 2019, the band had developed into a full five-piece which brought about a more folk-rock sound. Joining Holden in a new live lineup are ex- Blackbird & Crow guitarist Stephen Doohan, Mauritius native Madeline Leclezio on vocals, Canadian drummer Gregor Beresford, and ex-Midnight Union Band bassist Brian McGrath. This limited-edition vinyl release recorded live at Cleere's, Kilkenny (entitled 5+2 Live), makes an appearance through German record label JukeJoint500.

LOW Christmas LP

We would suggest that few bands from an ostensibly 'indie rock' background should release Christmas music, if not out of respect for the holiday or material then at least out of a sense of self-esteem. Low, however, were made for this. Their attention to musical detail combined with the heavenly vocal harmonies of Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker are perfectly attuned to both traditional carols like 'Silent Night' and more contemporary tunes such as 'Blue Christmas.' Christmas contains a selection of seasonal songs, including four originals by the band, mostly recorded at Low's 20? Below studio in Duluth, MN. 'If You Were Born Today' and 'Blue Christmas' were released as a 7" single in 1997 on the English Wurlitzer Jukebox label, while 'Taking Down The Tree' is taken from a 1998 compilation of live recordings issued by the Dutch VPRO radio station."

BLUMM & NILS FRAHM, F.S. Handling LP
A luminous new chapter in a singular collaboration Handling, Nils Frahm and F.S. Blumm present their fifth collaborative album-an immersive, 40-minute journey across just three tracks that radiate intimacy, invention, and sonic depth. Building on the dub-inflected textures of 2X1=4, the duo now ventures into more delicate, exploratory terrain, where every sound feels intentional and alive. Recorded at Frahm's LEITER studio in Berlin's Funkhaus, Handling is a masterclass in subtlety and sonic storytelling. Each of the three compositions-titled Leuchter-glows with quiet energy, evoking miniature worlds through a rich palette of instruments: pianos, celestas, cristal baschets, glockenspiels, guitars, and a wide array of percussive textures. Blumm and Frahm's long-standing friendship and mutual trust allow for a rare creative freedom. Their contrasting approaches-Blumm's playful chaos and Frahm's structured intuition-merge into a sound that is neither one nor the other, but something entirely new. Handling is not just music-it's a living, breathing sound sculpture, full of warmth, wonder, and the joy of discovery. A must for fans of ambient, experimental, and genre-defying music.

A 50-foot length of taut wire passes through the poles of a large magnet and is driven by an oscillator; the vibrations of the wire are miked at either end, amplified, and broadcast in stereo. The thin wire is set vibrating four times at four different frequencies; what results is not the low drone one might expect from a long, vibrating wire, but a complexity of evocative, ethereal chords. Music On A Long Thin Wire is a classic example of Alvin Lucier's investigations into the physics of sound and the sonic properties of natural processes.

VA Call Me By Your Name 2LP
"Call Me By Your Name, the film by Luca Guadagnino, is a sensual and transcendent tale of first love, based on the acclaimed novel by Andre Aciman. Summer of 1983, Northern Italy. An American-Italian is enamored by an American student who comes to study and live with his family. Together they share an unforgettable summer full of music, food, and romance that will forever change them. The film received critical acclaim. Critics praised in particular Chalamet, Hammer and Stuhlbarg's performances, Guadagnino's direction and the screenplay. Call Me By Your Name won a variety of Awards, including Academy, Bafta, GLAAD and many more. Sufjan Stevens's song 'Mystery of Love' was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 90th Academy Awards. Luca Guadagnino wanted the film's music to be connected to Elio, a young pianist who likes to transcribe and adapt pieces in order to get close to Oliver. The music is used to reflect the time, the characters' family, level of education and 'the kind of canon they would be a part of.' Guadagnino found himself resonating with Sufjan Stevens' lyricism through his work and initially asked Stevens to record an original song. Eventually, Stevens contributed three songs to the soundtrack: 'Visions of Gideon,' which was used at the end of the film, 'Mystery of Love,' which was featured in the film's first trailer and a new rendition of 'Futile Devices' with piano. Stevens penned the songs by using the script, the book, and the conversations with the director about the characters. It marks Sufjan Stevens' first soundtrack for a feature film. The vinyl package of Call Me By Your Name includes a poster, an insert and the 180-gram records are housed in two exclusive printed inner sleeves."

VA All The Young Droids: Junkshop Synth Pop 1978-1985 2CD
"All The Young Droids: Junkshop Synth Pop 1978-1985 is a new compilation that charts the underbelly of the epoch-defining sound of the synthesizer in '80s popular music. Compiled by curator Phil King, the music here connects the dots between DIY synth enthusiasts grappling with new, cheap synthesizers at the tail-end of punk and wannabe, jobbing songwriters enthrall to the new music pioneered by Gary Numan, Depeche Mode and Daniel Miller's Mute Records. Featuring rare tracks of auto-didactic progressive pop music, proto-techno punk, shoot-for-the-stars-land-in-the-gutter chart flops and heralded, underground synth classics, School Daze paints a picture of beautiful failure. Complete with extensive sleeve notes written by King and never before seen imagery, all 24 tracks were remastered by RPM in-house engineer Simon Murphy, many from vinyl copies due to lost master tapes. The story told on All The Young Droids is one of the dawning opportunities presented by both the emergence to the market of cheaper analog synthesizers and the distribution networks plus indie labels that exploded with the advent of punk music in 1976. While the music that sprouted out all over the globe in the wake of these factors was decried as fake, plastic, a refutation of punk's guitar-led revolution, it's telling that much of the music on All The Young Droids was created in bedrooms, ramshackle studios and home-made set ups with often borrowed equipment. In the era of record labels jumping to capitalize on the success of The Sex Pistols, The Clash (both on major labels, of course) these artists struggled to stand out from a new gold-rush with next to no budget or PR team. With radio and labels desperate for the new Yahoo, what resulted was a testament to necessity being the mother of invention."

YAGHMAEI, KOUROSH Back From The Brink 3LP
2025 restock. Twenty-one fully restored tracks from Kourosh's original master tapes Subtitled: Pre-Revolution Psychedelic Rock From Iran: 1973-1979. "The only legitimately licensed collection of the godfather of Iranian psychedelic rock, Kourosh Yaghmaei. Known within the Iranian diaspora simply by his first name, Kourosh's recordings were thought lost after Islamic fundamentalists took control of Iran. They weren't: Kourosh had protected them -- along with key ephemera from the '70s. Their collection here bolstered by Kourosh's first person recollections of Iran's '70s rock scene and its death after the Revolution, tells the story of an immensely talented artist's desire to persevere in the face of terrible adversity. Kourosh Yaghmaei and his brothers Kamran and Kambiz were amongst the few inspired Iranian musicians determined to change Tehran's musical landscape in the late '60s and early '70s. The trio, armed with rented, second-hand instruments and records by The Ventures, The Kinks, The Doors, merged Western garage rock, psychedelia and Iranian folkloric music to create a sound unlike anything that came before them." MESFIN, AYALEW Good Aderegechegn (Blindsided By Love) LP
2025 restock; LP version. "Ayalew Mesfin stands aside the likes of Mulatu Astake, Mahmoud Ahmed, Hailu Mergia and Alemayehu Eshete as a legend of 1970s Ethiopia. Mesfin's music is some of the funkiest to arise from this unconquerable East African nation. Mesfin's recording career, captured in nearly two dozen 7" singles and numerous reel-to-reel tapes, shows the strata of the most fertile decade in Ethiopia's 20th century recording industry, when records were pressed constantly by both independent upstarts and corporate behemoths, even if they were only distributed within the confines of this East African nation. Though Mesfin was forced underground by the Derg regime that took control of Ethiopia in 1974, he has returned almost 50 years later with this triumphant set albums -- the first time that his music has been presented in this form. These albums give us a chance to discover a rare and beautiful moment in music history, in anthologies built from Mesfin's uber-rare 7" single releases and from previously unreleased recordings taken from master tapes. VA A Collection of Songs in the Traditional & Sean-Nos Style CD
Nyahh Records presents this compilation of singers, which has been on the back boiler for some time! Inspired by the song collecting of Alan Lomax, this compilation brings together two generations of singers from all across the island of Ireland. Some of the songs previously appear on albums, but the rest were recorded by the singer themselves on their phones to give the song a real and raw effect that brings an authentic feel and immediacy to the songs. A long-standing tradition in Irish culture, singing has taken place in pubs and private homes all over the country since the 13th Century and has been a way to share and keep the music alive, passing it down to younger generations. It is considered to be an aural tradition, as a lot of these songs would not have been written down. Featuring Conor O'Kane, Aoife Hammond, Eoghan ? Ceannabh?in, Michael Frank ? Confhaola, M?abh Meir, Rosie Stewart, Ruth Clinton, Fionnuala Maxwell, Nell N? Chroinin, and Thomas McCarthy.

MOOMIN Into The Distance 2LP
Berlin-based DJ and producer Moomin (Sebastian Genz) returns with Into The Distance, a deeply immersive album. Expanding on his signature warm, textured sound, the 10-track LP blends deep house, downtempo, and ambient influences into a hypnotic, cinematic journey. Following his acclaimed 2011 debut The Story About You, Moomin has released on labels like Smallville, WOLF Music, OATH, and Aim, while also running his vinyl and tape imprint, Closer. Into The Distance refines his introspective, groove-driven style, with tracks like "Joni" and "A Way Out" pulsing with subtle energy, while "Caught In A Memory" and "Night Moves" evoke dreamy nostalgia. Having stepped away from live shows in 2019 to focus on his mastering studio, Moomin's latest album reflects this period of deep creative focus -- fluid, contemplative, and designed for both personal reflection and sonic exploration.

VA Cease & Resist: Sonic Subversion & Anarcho Punk in the UK 1979-1986 2LP
Limited 2025 restock. Anarcho punk was the one sub-genre of punk that emerged in isolation from the rock n' roll establishment. During its pioneering days of the early 1980s it thrived in opposition to the music industry, existing as a fiercely underground alternative to the bands, labels and venues of the commercialized mainstream punk scene. It continues to do so. Anarcho punk represented one of the last truly underground and autonomous music movements ever witnessed and remains a movement that has never sold out and has never gone away. The major differentiation between the anarcho punk acts and the more traditional punk outfits was that for the former, albeit often more due to musical limitation than intent, the message was more important than the music. Standard song structures were often dispersed with in favor of a relentless lyrical polemic accompanied by a similarly uncompromising aural assault. As the scene grew, so did the diversity of records that emerged under the anarcho punk umbrella: from D&V (drums & vocals) to the proto-EBM synth-pop of Belfast's one-man Hit Parade and the Dadaist Beefheart hybrid of The Cravats. In later days the two biggest acts of the scene, Flux of Pink Indians and Crass themselves, both released LPs which had more in common with improv Jazz than hardcore punk. The resounding victory of anarcho punk is that it is now the unifying soundtrack to a culture of resistance that spans Scotland to Indonesia and remains without compromise. It is still as removed from mainstream music and oppositional to conventional culture as it was over forty years ago and shows no sign of changing. Quite the opposite: the more popular anarcho punk becomes the less it has to engage with the music establishment and the more control it can enjoy. In 2023, that message remains as uncompromising as ever. This is a double vinyl retrospective compilation of some of the most radical music ever made, a musical force that changed lives. Covering the years 1979-86 and including classic tracks from Crass, Poison Girls, Flux Of Pink Indians, The Mob, Zounds, Annie Anxiety, The Ex, Alternative TV, plus ten more, all newly remastered by iconic punk mastering engineer Daniel Husayn. It has been lovingly compiled by JD Twitch and anarcho legend Chris Low and was ten years in the making. There are also a couple of previously unreleased mixes included. It comes as a high-quality double vinyl pressing, and has a full color sleeve with back and front images designed by the legendary Gee Vaucher. Also features Honey Band, Andy T, Alternative, The Apostles, Lack of Knowledge, Hagar the Womb, and Chumbawamba. Includes six-page fold out poster on one side with detailed sleeve notes, recollections and essays on the other side.

JANSSON & THE ESCAPISM, BROR GUNNAR People! LP
180g, colored vinyl. Perhaps the hardest thing about soul music is convincing. If the place and the experiences don't somehow shine through, people risk missing out on what's on offer completely. That's precisely why soul music is difficult in Sweden. There are few who can portray their experiences in music in a way as convincing as in the Black US Soul tradition. This however seems almost provocatively easy for Bror Gunnar Jansson to do. On the album People, it's as if he pours both lyrics and melodies that have grown slowly in life and that come naturally if you grow up on the right soil. And on almost every song, it only takes a few bars for Bror Gunnar Jansson & The Escapism to show who their musical relatives are. Although Gunnar seems to move freely in musical landscapes ruled by the greats of seventies soul from Al Green, Curtis Mayfield, and Aretha Franklin, as well as in some of the fringes of blues and jazz territory, both he and drummer and producer Christopher Cantillo explain that the album has took a long time brewing. And that what may appear obvious and simple has sprung out of a friendship that spans more than half of their lives.

MIZMOR Mnemonic: Ambient Mosaic LP
"In April, 2025, Mizmor mastermind A.L.N. released something new -- Alluvion, the Mizmor and Hell collaboration (Gilead Media). Now, A.L.N. brings you something old, or rather, renewed. Mnemonic: Ambient Mosaic is comprised of ten of A.L.N.'s earliest recordings, transformed into nostalgic drone-scapes. The artist has been making solo music under multiple monikers consistently since age thirteen and the recordings selected for this record date back almost as far. 'To create Mnemonic, I unearthed a selection of old recordings from both The Zarconiac and my eponymous Hymns (2011) and repurposed them into ambient tracks, just like I did with the Mizmor song 'Pareidolia' (Wit's End, 2022). I realized that there were many lamentful melodies in my old songs that I still love, despite the lo-fi quality. The idea was to create a nostalgic soundscape of inverted hymns, allowing the listener to explore the sounds of my past, obscured though they may be.' Drafts of these songs were originally published to Mizmor's Patreon (currently inactive), one each month of the year 2024. The twelve songs were then edited down into the ten that comprise this LP. About the aforementioned hymns, A.L.N. explains, 'In my time as a Christian (2010-2012), I created an EP of original hymns. The life of this project was short and catalogued simply under my given name. I can count the number of people who have heard these songs on one hand. These were worship songs, but not in the traditional sense. These songs were full of melancholy, pleas of help to God. It was from precisely this prayerful place that the first Mizmor album was written not long after, when I lost my faith.'"

ZIUR Home LP
On her fifth album, Zi?r considers not just what home symbolizes from her perspective, but the word's resonance to the diverse community that surrounds her, and how their stories have impacted her over the years. Indeed, it's the first time she's felt it necessary to examine her own nationality. In the past, she's deliberately avoided labelling herself as German, feeling disconnected from her country's politics, culture and even the German language itself. Stepping up to provide a different narrative, Zi?r scours her soul, writing and singing in German for the first time and proposing growth and evolution, not fear and regression. A solemn mood permeates the album's opening track 'Brown is the Color', and Zi?r sings in measured, slow-motion breaths over noisy synth oscillations and doomed piano flourishes. Already, it's a significant departure from her last run of releases, veering away from the frenetic, satirical chaos of 2023's Hakuna Kulala-released Eyeroll or its fantastical, dubby predecessor Antifate. Zi?r pulls on real world insights here, tracing her oldest, dearest musical inspirations to present her origins to anybody who might be listening. It's pop music in its own way, inverted and reconstructed to fit snugly into her well-established sonic landscape. On "No Yawn," brittle, downsampled hi-hats and industrial scrapes ping-pong around distorted riffs, provided by James ? Ceallaigh aka WIFE. Even the beatless "All Odds No Chants," a collaboration with Elvin Brandhi and Sara Persico, reveals another room in Zi?r's autobiographical suite. An openness carries the whole record, whether she's crying harsh truths over damaged orchestral scrapes on the album's goth-y title track, or duetting with Manchester's Iceboy Violet on "Through the Trees." On the former, Zi?r's voice soars, echoing hypnotically over unsettling analog distortions and gnarled strings. It's one of the eeriest and most beautiful tracks she's penned, camouflaging its broken electronics with ghostly moans and theatrical punctuations. By inviting in her own demons, Zi?r has been able to write her most personal album. Her relationship with home will always be thorny, but through music, she's been able to create a place to exist that's truly comfortable and protective.

HOMOSEXUALS, THE The Homosexuals CD CD

Able to record in downtime at Surrey Sound (the studio responsible for 10cc and The Police), they developed a breathless 'do everything in two minutes' production style. Some tracks only exist as distorted rough cassette mixes, but the songs shine through the sound quality. Much of the music is beautifully recorded however, and the full complexity and audacity is like a bucket of cool refreshing water."

SERENDA Second Skin 12"
Serenda is a London-based DJ and producer of Guyanese and Greek heritage, known for her rich, eclectic sound rooted in house but never confined by it. Her sets fold between soulful depth and experimental edge, always delivered with a bold, contemporary vision. Her sets are grounded in rhythm and instinct, built less around genre than sensation. She blends percussive house, warped club music, and raw, organic textures; crafting dancefloors that feel immersive and visceral and emotionally-charged. There's a physicality to her sound that edges toward the primal. For Serenda, DJing is a form of play -- fluid, responsive, and deeply connected. She deconstructs and distorts house music with intent, letting in pressure, dissonance, and emotional rupture. Her sets draw on the "timeless mindless states" of Mancuso's The Loft, unfolding as rituals that don't smooth over the chaos, they work with it. Following the release of her debut EP The Prophecy on Josh Caffe's Love Child label, she made her mark with a headline show in Fabric's Room 2 and a Rinse FM residency. A regular in London's queer underground, Serenda is also shaped by New York's experimental club scene, where experimental sound and unfiltered expression mirror her own ethos. Afro-diasporic and South American ritual in tension with city life, instinctive rhythm against digital overstimulation. Her fascination with world-building and quantum physics runs through everything she creates, fusing sonic design and sensory experience into one evolving landscape.

SABRA, JULIA Natural History Museum LP
"This album is a collection of songs written between 2020 and 2024 in Beirut. I wanted to capture them the way they were written by keeping the rawness and fragility intact, like the late-night voice memos I send to my bandmates as soon as I have a first draft of a song. Fadi and I decided to record them live on tape, with no overdubs, barely any effect -- with all the imperfections. Most of the tracks were done in one take only. Some were recorded in the studio, and some in the church I grew up going to every summer in Dhour Shweir. This is a collection of songs that slipped through the cracks, and some of the most personal ones I ever wrote. Songs about the port explosion, its aftermath, picking up the pieces and trying to move on, coming to terms with the past, regret and nostalgia for a childhood that lives only in memory, the uncertain future, learning to love, getting married, watching a genocide unfold on my phone screen, having it fill my every waking moment, imagining a better send off for all the dead, processing the violence and terror, and finding solace in community. These songs would've probably stayed in my 'songs in limbo' folder on my laptop had it not been for Pascal and Fadi, who pushed me to release them. And for this I'm eternally grateful." --Julia Sabra, September 2024

Mixed by Antoine Goulet (live sound engineer for SUUNS) and mastered by Mikey Young (Eddy Current Suppression Ring), the most obvious comparison in terms of mood and mode is Primal Scream's classic XTRMNTR, another record that processed personal and political conflicts and spat them out as distorted dance music. It shows the influence of the duo's DJ sets and 2024's radical Remezcla remix collection on their way of thinking and why they are now namechecking the likes of Moor Mother, MF DOOM, Patrick Cowley, The Bug, Paula Garc?s, Phil Kieran, Coby Sey, Run the Jewels, and Anadol. NEMESCU, OCTAVIAN Gradeatia - Natural 1973-83 LP
2025 limited restock, last copies. Sub Rosa present Octavian Nemescu's Gradeatia - Natural 1973-83. Nemescu was born in Pascani, Romania in 1940. He studied composition with Mihail Jora at University of Music in Bucharest. While still a student, he imposed himself as part of avant-garde movement in Romanian music composition. After 1965 he produced works of the "open creation" type, a blending of conceptual and environmental music. He involved himself after 1967 in the Romanian spectral trend. Starting with the work Concentric (1969), his creation received archetypal vocation by cultivating an aesthetic of the essential. Octavian Nemescu cultivated the archetypal goals on all parameters and musical forms. He is the author of Implosive Music and of Imaginary Music. He composed Multi-, Post-, Non- and Pre-Symphonies. Later, he became interested in music with initiation character, developed in a non-spectacular, ritualistic atmosphere, as a chance to reinvigorate the old mysteries and as a modality of awakening from biological, mental and spiritual sleep. Gradeatia was composed in 1982, commissioned by the Electroacoustic Music Studio in Gent (Belgium), where it was elaborated. It was conceived as ambient music for Voronet Monastery in Moldavia, as an electronic-audio fresco paralleling the existing one, embracing the idea of mural-visual consistency. It happened in a historic moment when the communist regime in Romania demolished many churches, and was conceived as a protest to these actions. Natural was composed in 1973, in its first version, and again in 1983, in a final version. This music has a spectral aesthetic orientation and at the same time, process-based and archetypal orientations.

VA Music From the Mountain People of Vietnam LP
Other worldly folk music from the Central Highlands of Vietnam performed by some of the most renowned musicians of the region, this exceptional document features small ensembles and solo performers on a variety of unique instruments (many with vocals). This is rare and disappearing music from the Jerai, Banhar, Ede, and Rongao ethnic groups and although the recordings are made during informal settings, they are raw, emotional, dreamy, and transcendent. From Vincenzo Della Ratta's liner notes: "In recent decades, the traditional cultures of various ethnic groups in Vietnam have undergone dramatic changes, leading to the radical transformation or even loss of some long-standing traditions, all of which has also had a significant impact on the musical traditions of the Central Highlands. The recordings on this album reflect this period, in which the last representatives of the old musical traditions have coexisted with a new wave of musicians and performers. This shift has affected the musical instruments used, the functions or contexts in which they are played, the repertoires, and the playing styles. A further characteristic of musical change in the Central Highlands is the influence of Western or Vietnamese music, evident in the way young musicians perform with a clean and measured style, with the standard Western tuning. This contrasts with the traditional playing style of older generations, and both styles are featured on this album. Rather than just being a 'musical postcard,' this album is intended to provide an accurate sonic representation of the musical landscape in the Central Highlands over the past two decades, while still being highly enjoyable. I feel that it is particularly significant, considering the present period of major change, during which the music of the older generations is fading from the villages of the region, making way for new forms of musical expression." Recorded live on location by Vincenzo Della Ratta between 2003-2023, this extremely limited-edition LP includes a four-page full-color insert with photos of the musicians and surroundings, a detailed track list and liner notes by Vincenzo Della Ratta.

LAGOSS/BABAU Splitting Hits for the Heat Damage Cassette
Limited split tape collaboration between like-minded pranksters Lagoss and Babau. Co-released by Sucata tapes and Artetetra. "The chars were emerging as some chunk of makeshift swamp coolers blasted the soil surrounding our motorbikes. Sunburn vapors floating grey all around, licking our necks with heavy hazy tongues. Just oppressive and gross. Blah. Someone says heat waves are among the most dangerous natural hazards. I guess that the magnetic tides did not help at all. For sure, recreational sleep deprivation aside, it was days of relentlessly documented tipsy headaches, thermometric cicada noises and weird-ass hallucinations. It is what it is. The age of earthquakes. We drink from our black plastic bags with a straw pushing a bit of oxygen thru our reptile brains. Just half a pack of synthetic tobacco for the ride. No internet. Whatever. She looks at me behind the war metal glasses and the silicone frog mask high on desert dust. Sweaty pools on her shoulders. Eyes purple with adrenaline. Map on the scratched screen. 'It says that at this point we should be hearing that fucking flute.' We stop amidst the geysers. We can see the monoliths and stone gods ready to eat up all the solar storms and the thunder. Towards the horizon, second moon is up. Damn. Water rises to our knees, green with bloating sounds. Just what we needed. We're stuck. Turn up the radio. Let's hope it lasts five minutes.' After trashing a bunch of fake subtropical signals, the radio plays a flute. She takes off the mask and explodes in a grin: 'This is it man, we made it! No man's land. The real fucking thing.' I light one up and let the sight get blurred: 'You betcha.'"

SCIENTIST Introducing Scientist - The Best Dub Album in the World LP
2025 repress. "Hopeton Brown, better known as Scientist, has been a pioneering figure in the world of dub for nearly 40 years. His early love of electronics proved fruitful when (still a teenager) he was hired at King Tubby's studio in Kingston. Brown quickly ascended the ranks and became heir to Tubby's throne, producing imaginative and technically impressive mixes that solidified his forward-looking nickname. Introducing Scientist - The Best Dub Album in the World, his 1980 debut LP, lives up to its boastful title. Recorded with Sly & Robbie at Channel One Studio and mixed at King Tubby's, the album features hypnotic basslines, reverb- drenched keyboards, and fluid, start-stop rhythms. Opening track 'Steppers,' with its well-balanced phrasing and organic contours, shows Scientist's mastery of the studio- as-instrument concept. On 'Scientific,' the effectsladen guitars are stretched to their outer limit to create magnificent, spaced-out textures and muted tension. Introducing Scientist displays the talents of a man obsessed with every element of production, drawing out the very best of the dub form."

VA Tectonic Sound 2CD
2025 marks 20 years of Tectonic, the pioneering dubstep and electronic label founded in 2005 by Bristol's underground originator, DJ Pinch. The Tectonic Sound compilation lays down the gauntlet for the future direction of the imprint. Split across 6 x 4-track 12"s and double CD, the compilation comprises many producers making their Tectonic debut, including Re:ni, Beatrice M., Yushh, Flora Yin-Wong, and Sicaria, alongside stalwarts like Om Unit, RSD, Peverelist and Kahn & Neek. It's an exhilarating 24-track journey through experimental, bass-heavy electronic music, with almost all tracks created by the artists specifically with Tectonic's sound in mind -- at the intersection where dubstep and techno meet. Across Tectonic's 150-strong catalogue there are seminal releases by 2562, Scientist, and Mumdance & Logos, side by side with appearances from Flying Lotus, Shed, Adrian Sherwood, Riko Dan, and Photek. The label holds some of the earliest dubstep incantations of Skream, Digital Mystikz, and Joker as well as Pinch's own productions. The evolution of the Tectonic sound branches into audio explorations encompassing sub-heavy techno and grimey soundscapes alongside leftfield electronica and future-facing beats. The common thread that binds is Pinch's devotion to pushing underground music ahead of its time, always built to rattle a soundsystem. Also featuring V.I.V.E.K, FJAAK & J.Manuel, Cocktail Party Effect, Appleblim, Gemmy, Sophia Loizou, J.Sparrow, Cortical, Ipman, Distance, Coki.

CLARK Kiri Variations LP
LP version. Originally released July 26, 2019. This album of plaintive beauty, eerie wyrd arcadian horror and childlike outsider music epitomizes Clark's constant ability to flip-the-script and coherently organize an abundance of new ideas. Mysterious and morbidly beautiful pieces driven by piano, harpsichord, cello and viola, electronics and voice, are interspersed with fabulously unusual and highly original curveballs. "I want people to listen to this in the same way they would read a set of Roald Dahl short stories; bitter-sweet tales with hooks and teeth and unexpected macabre twists. Proper Witch vibes." --Clark

CLARK Sus Dog CD
This is Chris Clark's tenth studio album, originally released in 2023. The electronic artist chose to marry his signature volatile, pin-sharp production to the introduction of his own emotive vocals. Challenging himself to fantasize what a record might sound like "if the Beach Boys took MDMA and made a rave record," Clark looked to Thom Yorke to assist in an executive production role, an ideal companion considering Yorke's most recent flights to the world of immersive electronica. There's also plenty of occasions where the compositions lean towards cinematic soundscapes particularly on the unnerving distortion of "Forest." However unlike on his Growl Garden EP where vocals were used in a more chilling and dystopian role, those on the likes of "Dolgoch Tape" are far more reverential and tender, closer to the spellbound serenity found on a Sufjan Stevens LP. Vocals funneled into textures rather than dominant leads. Highlighting the album's contrasts and bonds between human and machine The Guardian described it as "wandering free from structure, deploying sunbursts of synths and metallic percussion, nailing melodies into your primitive brain."

SMITH/THE SMASHING TIMES, LINDA Linda Smith/The Smashing Times 7"
This split 7" EP comprises four new tracks, two from Linda Smith in keyboard-warble anthem mode and two low-fidelity daytrips by The Smashing Times. Linda Smith and The Smashing Times are the best of friends. They are both currently based in Baltimore, USA. This split 7" EP celebrates that friendship with two new tracks by each act; united by DIY spirit, a bedroom-pop sensibility and now a puddle of black vinyl. Songwriter Linda Smith has a gentle but unconventional experimental style that continues to evolve as she adds new entries to her storied catalogue. Smith's pioneering work with four-track production in the '80s found her at the beginning of a home-recording movement that would set the pace for the decades of indie rock that followed. During this most active period, Smith's music was limited mostly to obscure cassette and 7" releases. This trailblazing time was recently revisited on Captured Tracks' compilation Till Another Time: 1988-1996. Shortly after Smith's retrospective, she teamed up with like-mind and collaborator Nancy Andrews to release an album of beguiling pop entitled A Passing Cloud (2023). The duo performed songs from that record at Upset The Rhythm's 20th anniversary party at Caf? OTO that same year. 2024 saw further reissues of Smith's music including Nothing Else Matters (1995) and I So Liked Spring (1996). The Smashing Times are a premier East Coast pop experimental group. They have also gleefully performed in London for Upset The Rhythm twice in quick succession. Known for their dogtooth style, waggish mod attitude and tumbledown sound, The Smashing Times have holes in their socks and sit idly between The Kinks and Tori Kudo. Their previous albums on K Records, Perennial and Meritorio are a cherished commodity steeped in Paisley psyche and slapdash panache.

BOOGIE DOWN PRODUCTIONS By All Means Necessary (Orange Vinyl) LP
"By All Means Necessary is often discussed like it's some departure from Criminal Minded. The moment KRS turned into 'The Teacha' and became a politically minded, socially conscious wordsmith. In reality, this is who he already was. Misunderstanding and tragedy is what compelled him to not only refocus on the role he wanted to play in hip-hop, but create an album that gave way to a very important movement in hip-hop, too. By All Means Necessary is an essential and definitive BDP and KRS album. It marks the moment where KRS wasn't just concerned with being a great emcee but a teacher, too, continuing his exploration of sociopolitical subjects on BDP's following three albums, as well as throughout his solo career. Boogie Down Productions' revolutionary sophomore album. Lacquers cut by Cicely Balston, AIR Mastering. Pressed on 180 gram orange vinyl. Listening notes booklet by Elijah Watson."

QUASIMOTO The Further Adventures of Lord Quas (Color Vinyl) 2LP
"When the Beat Konducta and his trusty alter ego link up for the sequel, another southern California blunt cruise ensues. The Adventures Of Lord Quas consists of a slow ride through the deepest corners of the crate, leaving no genre unearthed until it claims space in the haze of one's imagination. It's business as unusual: Madlib funnels his most twisted impulses and comedic sensibilities into a sonic slacker flick complete with good dope, bottom-shelf liquor, and a penchant for gazing mouth agape into the great unknown. But he knows Lord Quas like a good needle on wax, and they casually strut through the loops, much ado about frontin'. (Not like fake shit ain't a big deal, but it ain't a big enough deal.) This record captures Madlib and his id at their most frantic, indulgent, and often confusing; they trade neatness for chaos, continuity for collage in a barrage of the finest sounds this side of the B-side. It's hip-hop that takes every visible risk, often striking gold and proving how in control the Loop Digga truly is. Don't hit it too hard, your other selves might pay you a visit. First vinyl release of the full 66-minute album. Pressed on exclusive 2LP day/night vinyl. Exclusive alternate art + gatefold jacket."

COUP, THE Genocide & Juice (Orange Vinyl) 2LP
"The Coup's second album, 1994's Genocide & Juice, was an emboldened level-up from their first full length. While early Coup material had moments that blossomed on later efforts, Genocide & Juice was where those ideas deepened, becoming more pronounced as their catalog grew. Production wise, it's replete with colorful samples, thorough skits and big bass, a perfect intersection of '90s sample-based ingenuity and West Coast funk. Genocide & Juice is mainly two things: neighborhood tales and unapologetic worldviews bound with fisted activism -- made by the group's core members at the time -- Riley, Pam the Funkstress and E-Roc. But there are voices and sound effects woven throughout that give it more texture. Killer production that was able to sound both clearly professional while retaining its edge. At a concise 14 tracks, this album is one of the best sophomore efforts by any group, in any genre. First ever 2LP release of the Coup's bitingly satirical sophomore album. Lacquers cut by Cicely Balston, Alchemy Mastering at AIR. Pressed on exclusive 2LP orange galaxy vinyl. Listening notes booklet by David Ma."

MAR-KEYS/BOOKER T. & THE M.G.'S, THE Back to Back LP
"Back to Back captures the instrumental aspect of the '67 Stax-Volt European tour ('Volt' is the name of Stax's subsidiary label). Immediately apparent is that the live versions of these songs are played much faster than the recorded ones. Exuberant? Definitely! These folks were racing across unfamiliar cultures and landscapes, reimagining their place in this world, looking down at the clouds for the first time. The pace was faster because their lives were -- quickly -- getting so much larger. In these recordings, you can hear all of that emotional exhilaration, all of that savoring of personal respect, that thrill of the new. Many of these songs were several years old, but they shine on Back to Back like they're being performed for the first time. Over and over, you hear the musicians throwing in something extra, curlicues and tangents that express their excitement. (AAA) lacquers cut from the mono master tapes by Ryan Smith, Sterling Sound. Pressed on exclusive 180 gram vinyl. Listening notes booklet by Robert Gordon."

FIASCO, LUPE Food & Liquor (Purple Vinyl) 2LP
"There was no other rapper like Lupe Fiasco making this much of a splash in the mainstream in 2006. Here was this bookish kid from the 'hood who could rap circles around Jay-Z and had the gall to pose with trinkets -- a Wee Ninja doll, a Nintendo DS, a copy of the Quran, a copy of his first Fahrenheit 1/15 mixtape, a toy robot -- on the cover for his debut. He may have been an anachronism in his time, but looking back, it's easy to see how he laid the groundwork for other high-minded emcees with crossover potential. There's moments of brilliance packed into every Lupe Fiasco album, but the equilibrium of Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor has been difficult for him to recreate. To this day, it remains the most potent and well-balanced of Lupe's work, a case of the corner boy and the scholar living in an otherworldly talented rapper's brain working in perfect harmony. Lupe's acclaimed debut album, featuring 'Kick, Push' and 'Daydreamin''. Lacquers cut by Barry Grint, AIR Mastering. Pressed on exclusive 2LP purple prism vinyl. Listening notes booklet by Dylan Green."

BIG BOI Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty (Purple and Silver Vinyl) 2LP
"While fighting through label limbo and placing his budding film career on freeze, Antwan 'Big Boi' Patton spent a couple years readying the artillery for his solo close-up. Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty is both a testament to the maturation of Big Boi and a tribute to his late father; underneath, it's a speakeasy at breakneck speed, sittin' on 32s. Where many other formidable MCs would be eaten alive, Big Boi shapeshifts across every mood and landscape with his trademark tenacity. He's an effortless showboat who can portray sleaze with ease, but he's a true class act who's got nothing left to prove, yet will never let it show. Flanked by his known co-conspirators and many more, Big Boi blesses the senses the way only an East Point playboy can; it's an intergenerational time warp, and another funky ride in HD. The final product is a natural progression of his Organized Noize lineage, sent across dimensions to return with an assemblage of time-tested potent Black grooves, then pressure-cooked in the kitchen of the finest booty club in Georgia. First vinyl reissue of Big Boi's proper solo debut. Pressed on 2LP purple and silver galaxy vinyl." "A monster of an album... it takes an extra special sort of swagger to pull this off." --Sean Fennessey, SPIN (9/10)

T. REX T. Rex (Color Vinyl) LP
"This album, a pair of gorgeous, androgynous longhairs with incredible cheekbones on its cover, showed up first. Its songs talked of girls with jewels on their lips riding zebras and a chance encounter with a wizard. The sound was a strange brew concocted from different strains of earlier rock 'n' roll: some folk, some rock, and an undeniable debt to Eddie Cochran. Marc Bolan's music, persona, and look were strange, beautiful, and whimsical enough that if you tried to explain his massive popularity to somebody born after the century Bolan lived in, for just shy of 30 years, it would probably sound like a story from eons ago. Glam came after T. Rex, but it's also just a skip to the Sex Pistols, Ramones, and more punk from there; it's also not far from the 'post' sounds that came out of New York and London around 1977 or the darkness and decadence of Siouxsie Sioux and Bauhaus either. The tarted-up heavy metal of Hanoi Rocks and Poison in the 1980s followed, and into this newer century, you can hear Bolan's direction heeded and reimagined by Alison Goldfrapp or Devendra Banhart. All of that is because of this album, the sound of Marc Bolan turning the key to unlock his true potential. His magically strange vision took shape here, and nothing has been the same since. (AAA) lacquers cut from the master tapes by Ryan Smith, Sterling Sound. Pressed on exclusive 180 gram 'jewel of frost' vinyl. Listening notes booklet by Jason Diamond."

NAPPY ROOTS Watermelon, Chicken & Gritz (Color Vinyl) 2LP
"'In spite of systemic challenges, there is some glory in Nappy Roots' humble lot -- at least, as they depict it. Anthems like 'Country Boyz,' the down and dirty 'Slums,' and 'Kentucky Mud' show a kind of refreshing solidarity with people who might not have ever heard themselves in hip-hop before. That was the Nappy movement, as its creators saw it: finding the joy and beauty, where one could, in an unfair system instead of trying to cover it up. Taking qualities and status perceived as undesirable -- 'nappiness,' rural living, being part of the working poor -- and finding within them a sense of community and appeal without masking all the things that make them so awful. As a new recession hit and the U.S. slid into yet another war, 'Po' Folks' reached #21 on the Hot 100; their message of humble resilience rang out everywhere. A new dimension of hip-hop had cut into the mainstream, one that was neither preachy nor apocalyptic but simply made in solidarity. As Deville put it, by way of explaining the album's title, it's 'the refreshment, the soul food -- the shit that's going to stick to you. Pressed on exclusive 2LP mud vinyl. Listening notes booklet by Natalie Weiner." "Stock-full of sweet pop hooks and loaded down with an easy good-time feeling." --AllMusic

PRATT, SEAN Prairie Whistle Call LP
"Having spent some considerable time in Nebraska over the last few years, I've come to know and love the region and can attest that the sound on Prairie Whistle Call that is very much of that place. There's a timelessness to Pratt's songs that belie Omaha's railroad heyday with a wispy shadow of Midwest indie rock. The performances and arrangements are played with the ease of old friends having conversations, keeping the pace steady and close. The energy that lives in these songs conjure distant memories and warm nostalgia that I am not sure belongs solely to me. Perhaps it's the raw intimacy I hear in Pratt's tender spoken sung delivery sweetly nestled into the gentle and sparse instrumentation that recalls the feeling of driving through the grasslands, staring towards the relentless bright blue sky as the stories we live circle the clouds." --Rosali Middleman"Sean is a consummate Midwestern songwriter; keenly aware that our lives are more honestly depicted through impressionistic understatement than gross exaggeration. The strength of his songs lies in giving us as much of a story as we need to truly care about the characters -- to wonder where these people came from and to imagine we know where they are headed." --Simon Joyner"Sean Pratt's prairie-blown folk songs are ambling yet arresting -- moving with the worn-in certainty of a trusted friend. Gorgeously frayed harmonies and delicately spun strings are all brushstrokes in the Midwestern landscapes that populate Pratt's songs. It's music that feels rooted in a place but beams outward, a flickering porch light at the bend in a road." --Lou Turner (Styrofoam Winos)

HUMAN LEATHER Here Comes The Mind, There Goes The Body LP
Human Leather have always been a ferocious live act, unbelievably loud for a two piece. Their gigs are often an overwhelming wall of sludge, howls and amphetamine-addled drums, with spectators flying joyously around the pit. Previous recordings did full justice to the impact of the live show; however, the second helping is something else. On Here Comes the Mind, There Goes the Body the sludge is still present, rising, and lapping at your ankles, but there's a new clarity showing off exactly how fucking good those riffs are. There are ear worm riffs for days, shout along vocals that roar, shriek and reform into a Greek chorus, drums that thump you repeatedly in the chest and then the whole thing vanishes in just under 30 minutes, leaving you bruised, deafened and with questions about your life. Squint your ears a bit and you'll hear the influences of bands like Karp, Torche and Big Business but they're thrown into a much crustier stew. The lyrics span a variety of political issues, not limited to the landed gentry, global warming and consumerist harbingers of doom. Importantly the songs are also not afraid to discuss class issues (unlike many political bands who you suspect have a much sturdier security net). While this could easily feel preachy, every line is delivered with the knowing wink of the underdog and good humor, and the vibes are as they've always been in difficult times. And what is the point of a revolution you can't dance to? Speaking of dancing, the final track features an honest-to-god dance beat, acid squelches and disembodied vocal samples, pointing to an alternative universe in which Human Leather are a heavy electroclash band. Here comes the record of the year, bring what is left of your eardrums. You didn't need that body anyway.

UMILIANI & I SUOI OSCILLATORI, PIERO Il Mondo Dei Romani LP
Limited 2025 restock. First vinyl reissue. Limited edition of 500 orange LPs (vinyl only; no digital release). Remastered from the original reels. The sought-after experimental gem Il Mondo Dei Romani, by soundtrack and avant-garde maestro Piero Umiliani, is now available on vinyl for the first time since its original release in 1972. Originally recorded for a TV documentary about ancient Rome and released on Umiliani's Omicron label, Il Mondo Dei Romani finds Umiliani experimenting with electronic instruments (Suoi Oscillatori or "his oscillators") to offer a fascinating rendition of what synthesizer-based avant-garde ancient Roman music would sound like. It's a weird and extremely hypnotizing retro-futuristic experience of faux cithara, lyre, organ, and trumpet sounds driven by proto-techno sequences and minimalist rhythms. This brilliant electronic oddity is the perfect companion to We Release Whatever The Fuck We Want Records' previous Umiliani reissue, Tra scienza e fantascienza (WRWTFWW 003LP, 2015). Born in 1926, Piero Umiliani began his career as a jazz pianist (occasionally recording with Chet Baker) and started working on film soundtracks in the late '50s. Known as the man who brought jazz to Italian cinema, he left his mark on a long series of notorious giallo and mondo movies, soft sex films, and Eurospy thrillers, garnering praise for mastering sleazy funk, experimental electronica, and jazzy themes, and making a name for himself among his peers, including Ennio Morricone or Riz Ortolani. It was with the 1968 Italian mondo film Sweden: Heaven and Hell that Umiliani landed his biggest hit, "Mah N? Mah N?" (originally "Viva la Sauna Svedese" ("Hooray for the Swedish Sauna")), which would later be used on Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, The Benny Hill Show, and many more.
