VA Sounds of Silence LP
2026 restock. Sounds of Silence is an anthology of some of the most intriguing silent tracks in recording history and includes rare works, among others, by Andy Warhol, John Lennon, Maurice Lemaitre, Sly & The Family Stone, Robert Wyatt, John Denver, Whitehouse, Orbital, Crass, Ciccone Youth, Afrika Bambaataa and of course, Yves Klein. In their own quiet way, these silences speak volumes: they are performative, political, critical, abstract, poetic, cynical, technical, absurd. They can be intended as a memorial or a joke, a special offer, or something entirely undefined. The carefully-chosen silences of this anthology are intrinsically linked to the medium of reproduction itself and reveal its nude materiality. They expose their medium in all its facets and imperfections, including the effect of time and wear. At the most basic level, these silences are surfaces. And it is in their materiality that they distinguish themselves from the conceptual experiments of John Cage with "4'33". Since the 1950s, silence has found a place in the economic structure of the record industry and since then it would increasingly be appropriated by a vast array of artists in a vast array of contexts. Indeed, the silent tracks seem to know no boundaries. The LP presents the silences as they were originally recorded, preserving any imperfection that the hardware conferred upon the enterprise, without banning the possibility of being satisfying to the ear. The liner notes provide historical background for each track, revealing the stated (or presumed) motivations for these silences, while providing novel sound correspondences or interferences. This album is meant to be played loud (or not), at any time, in any place: a true aural experience. Gatefold, iconic sleeve.

SABABA 5 Ca Va Ca Va LP
Sababa 5 return to their roots on ?a Va ?a Va -- a melting pot of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean sounds, layered with psych-soaked guitars, cosmic synths and heavy, driving grooves. A pure dose of party energy and nostalgia from Batov Records' finest. With four albums already behind them, Sababa 5 have earned global support, from Songlines magazine and BBC Radio 6 Music tastemakers including Gilles Peterson, Jamz Supernova, and Iggy Pop to France's FIP Radio and Radio Nova, for their unique blend of traditional Middle Eastern celebration music with psychedelic grooves, funk, jazz, rock, and international vocal collaborations spanning Japan to India. The Paris-based group have taken this sound to stages across Europe, including Reeperbahn Festival and Dresden's Super Fest. ?a Va ?a Va is the band's hafla album -- a return to the wedding and event celebration music that first shaped Sababa 5. Recorded in Paris, it draws directly from the sounds of hafla -- the joyful, communal music heard at Middle Eastern weddings, parties and festive gatherings -- with a sprinkling of influences from the wider Mediterranean. The group utilize their classic combination of electric guitar, bass, drums, organ, and synths to transform these ideas into vibrant melodies, dance-ready rhythms, and a spirit of abundance and togetherness. Opening track "Bienvenue" sets the tone with a mysterious, longing guitar solo before bursting into an irresistible rhythm and jubilant guitar motif. It flows seamlessly into "All?," straight into wedding-riot territory -- a fast-rising instrumental that showers the dancefloor with energy as it builds around a hypnotic, arpeggio-driven riff. The album is almost entirely original material, with two key exceptions: "Yp?rcho" (I Exist), a beautiful instrumental journey inspired by a classic Greek song traditionally performed by Stelios Kazantzidis, and "Asunsan," an instrumental flip of the much-loved Sababa 5 collaboration "Nasnusa" with Yurika Hanashima. Another impressive step in the Sababa 5 story, ?a Va ?a Va captures both joy and longing -- the unmistakable warmth of Eastern Mediterranean celebration and the band's surf-rock edge -- sounding more confident, spirited and deeply rooted than ever.

NEAN Doo Dah Nean LP
A bizarrely entrancing jewel from the depths of the Japanese underground, Doo Dah Nean was originally released in small run of hand assembled cassettes by the La Musica label in the late '90s. The album is the sole release and evidence of Nean, an entirely under-the-radar trio that crossed the sensual, disassociated female vocals of Japanese iroke kay?kyoku music with off-balance shamanic rhythm and echoing electronic rumble. Nean were the trio of Yui on bass and electronics, Naoko on voice, and Non on drums. Both Yui and Non were also part of Holy Angels, and Yui played with Ohkami No Jikan and Mauduit Nuit. Vocalist Naoko, in her lone recorded appearance anywhere, elevates the proceedings to peak outsider strangeness. Her ultra-repetitive chants and sighs balance childlike innocence with sinister knowing. Alternately distracted and humming to herself or delivering breathy, near field whispers, the simple juxtaposition of her vocalizations with Non's stumble-drunk drums, and the amorphous blobs and gloops of tone unleashed from Yui's instruments lands like an avant garde, proto-ASMR incantation. A truly confounding release in a La Musica catalogue that's not exactly thin on the ground for such form. Housed in die-cut "Uni-Pak" style gatefold with metallic gold ink and soft touch finishes with printed inner sleeve. Vinyl pressed at RTI. Additional mastering by Timothy Stollenwerk, Stereophonic mastering lacquers by Phillip S. Rodriguez. Elysian masters executive produced by Peter Kolovos.

ASAHITO, NANJO M LP
A collection of intimate songs traced from the spectral darkness by Nanjo Asahito, the notorious leader of some of Japan's key underground psychedelic units (High Rise, Mainliner, Musica Transonic, Toho Sara, etc) Recorded between 1980 and 1988 and previously only available in a cassette micro-edition released by his La Musica Records label in the mid-1990s. Remastered and available for the first time on vinyl and digital. From the original La Musica cassette notes: "A compilation of secret projects recorded over a period of twenty years. Deeply personal music that achieves a strange balance between beat folk balladry and off-key mumbling. Suggestive self-celebratory music conceived as a confirmation of existence." A lesser-known side of Nanjo Asahito -- if all you know of his work is the overloaded, intensified psych-rock and free-sound of his group projects then the solo songs on M gently redraw the contours of Nanjo's private universe. There's something gem-like in the way these five songs are formed, even as they accrue grit and dirt while drifting out of the speakers. Here, Nanjo grabs handfuls of gentle chord changes, allows them to rotate in the air, suspended in reverb, flickering in half-light, as he murmurs drowsy melodies. The closing "Eucharist" pushes everything through a thin layer of distortion; elsewhere, tinkling piano, from guest Matsuoka Takashi, who also performed with Keiji Haino's Nijiumu, disturbs dust molecules to dance through hazy air. LP is housed in die-cut "Uni-Pak" style gatefold with metallic gold ink and soft touch finishes with printed inner sleeve. Vinyl pressed at RTI.

CLOTHILDE Queen of the French Swinging Mademoiselle 1967 LP
2026 repress; LP version. Comes with a four-page insert. Clothilde, queen of the "Swingin' Mademoiselles." Why Clothilde? Why not that more star-worthy, internationally-acclaimed Fran?oise Hardy, or the more akin to the sub-genre, France Gall? Because she's the most characteristic, archtypical French mademoiselle, that's why! Christine Pilzer, even Jacqueline Ta?eb before her, both may have been rediscovered first in this style unique to French '60s pop, and Stella also may have been the most out and out "anti-ye-ye" with her slightly anti-establishment and derisive lyrics countering the pop system and establishment, but Cleo's all about text, not that much as a whole production. As such, Clothilde takes the crown. Not only has Clothilde the most natural (albeit unknowingly) disposition as a chanteuse, singing such subversive lyrics with as much second degree detachment as possible but also, the music itself is highly original: inventive arrangements including French horn, musical saw, church bells, barrel organ, marimba, brass fiddle, woodwinds, and busy fuzz guitar amidst all that slapstick comedy-like audio bric-?-brac. Almost avant-garde in concept, it was imagined and produced by Clothilde's impresario, manager and indeed creator, legendary Disques Vogue A.D. Germinal Tenas. This could've only come out of France.

LA FEMME Mystere 2LP
2026 repress. French pop connoisseurs La Femme present Myst?re. La Femme have made a huge mark on modern Paris's cultural landscape, with the two sides of the city - the glamour and the grit - ingrained in their music. Since the release of their debut album, Psycho Tropical Berlin (BORNBAD 051LP, 2013), their rise has only gained momentum with fans including directors Jacques Audiard and Romain Gavras to legends Jean Michel Jarre and Hedi Slimane. Returning with a more psychedelic sound and guest vocalists that slice through the starkest of electro beats, Myst?re sees La Femme celebrating their wonderful city. From the chattering t?te-?-t?te heard on "Conversations Nocturnes" to the throbbing disco beat of "SSD", a direct reference to the pulsing nightlife hotspot and multi-cultural district Strasbourg Saint Denis where the band is based. Myst?re's true intrigue however, lies in La Femme's enigmatic questioning of falling in and out of love. A compendium of short stories describing loves and losses, each song breaks down language barriers through an inventive and astute knack for melody. The elation of a passionate encounter is captured on the ricocheting electronics of "Tatiana", the melancholic acoustic guitar echoes in "Le Vide Est Ton Nouveau Prenom" and the sorrow of a war-torn couple in "Psyzook". Whether delicate or drenched in dirty disco, the impact of Cl?mence, Marlon and Sacha's gothic mantras mixed with the guest vocal talent of Clara Luciani, Jane Peynot, Naomi Greene, Mathilde Marli?re, Angela Hureau, Battista Acquaviva and Sarah Ben Abdallah is perhaps where La Femme's true meaning can be found. Sacha on his band's all-inclusive philosophy: "We don't like the idea of having a leader or a chief: everyone brings to the band what they can and want." Recorded between a castle in Brittany and a Paris basement before being finished up with Sonny Diperri (Animal Collective) in LA, Myst?re once again sees backgrounds blurred and worlds collide. The band's chic retro-futurist surf-pop sound possesses the same dose of glamorous punk stomp as before, but this time around it's layered with an elegant fusion of influences from Ennio Morricone, Marie Et Les Garcons's disco-rock touch and the lysergic romanticism of The Velvet Underground. Through increased use of strings and further exploration of sound, Myst?re also incorporates the band's new love of oriental sounds, Turkish disco, Tuareg blues, medieval psychedelia to mainstays Brian Eno and Pink Floyd.

DAVIS, MILES The Original Quintet (First Recording) LP
2026 repress. Down At Dawn present a reissue of Miles Davis's The Original Quintet (First Recording) , originally released on Prestige in 1963. In 1955, Davis played a beautifully received set at the Newport Jazz Festival and was offered a contract with Columbia Records if he could get a steady group together. In order to record for Columbia, Davis would first have to settle an obligation to Prestige and so he put together the now legendary quintet with John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers, and Philly Joe Jones. It was under these conditions, in a desire to churn out as many records as possible to change labels, that Davis recorded some of the most celebrated music of his entire career. This group, in the span of several months released a half-dozen LPs including this one and the great Cookin' (1957), Workin' (1959), and more. This title, originally recorded in 1955 features a great Duke Ellington piece, "Just Squeeze Me", the brilliant Davis original "The Theme", and several other great tunes, but most importantly it is the introduction to a group that features two towering giants of jazz together on some of the fieriest playing of either's career. 2026 repress. Reissue of Joe Harriot Quintet And Sextet's Southern Horizons, originally released in 1960. This is Harriott on the verge of the free form/abstract period, but here, still anchored in the hard bop mode. This is stylish, elegant, tight, swinging; whatever label of appreciation you want to attach to it, this is still fresh music creation. This record sticks to the quintet line-up of sax, trumpet, piano, bass, and drums (as on Movement), but with the added pizzazz of a superb bongo player on a couple of tracks, just to heighten the sense of hepness to the proceedings. Partly original compositions, partly covers (including a dynamic take on "Caravan"), this was Harriott's first long-playing record as a leader. Personnel: Joe Harriott - alto saxophone; Coleridge Goode - bass; Frank Holder - bongos; Bobby Orr - drums; Harry South - Piano; Hank Shaw - trumpet; Shake Keane - trumpet, flugelhorn.

Born in 1980 as a trio, and currently a duo formed by Arturo Lanz (founding member) and Saverio Evangelista (member since 1991), Esplendor Geom?trico is an influential and international electronic cult band and also a rare case in the Spanish music scene, as they have developed their own independent path aside from tags, fashion or trends, in spite of being often classified as industrial music. Their career for more than four decades hasn't had interruptions. They haven't stopped composing, releasing albums, or playing live. Their influence has marked many later artists, usually classified in the so-called industrial music or rhythm & noise, as well as artists from current techno and certain types of experimental noise music.

SUN RA Live in Roma 1980 2CD
2026 restock, last copies. Born Herman Poole Blount in Alabama during 1914, Sun Ra first emerged on the Chicago jazz scene during the late 1940s. One of the great avant-garde composers of his generation -- leading the way on piano, organ, and (eventually) synthesizer -- beginning in the mid-1950s and lasting until his death in 1993, led the Arkestra, a band through which a near countless number of important artists passed and collaborated with, and many remained for the duration of their careers, notably Marshall Allen, John Gilmore, and June Tyson. Known for their wild costumes and theatrics, Ra's eccentric image and claims that he was from Saturn was deeply political, imagining an alternate social order, history, and future for African Americans that rests as a pioneering force in the Afro-Futurist movement. Recorded live at Teatro Giulio Cesare on March 28, 1980, comprising an astounding 27 compositions, including the highly celebrated "Astro Black," "Mr. Mystery," "Romance of Two Planets," "Space Is the Place," "We Travel the Spaceways," and "Calling Planet Earth." High among the greatest live gigs by the Arkestra captured on tape, carefully mastered by Matt Bordin at Outside Inside Studio, Live in Rome 1980 is a near perfect snapshot of the band's versatility and range, including many of their most notably and famous songs, as well as striking renditions of the Horace Henderson penned Benny Goodman number "Big John's Special," Fletcher Henderson's "Yeah Man!," and "Limehouse Blues," displaying Ra's willingness to address and rework the entire, diverse history of jazz in a single go. Heard in its totality, perhaps what makes Live in Rome 1980 most striking is the way in which the concert plays out. Roughly the first half encounters the band locked in some of the most out-there, free jazz fire that can be imagined, weaving a startling sense of interplay and furious energy into a brilliant tapestry of writhing sonority, the likes of which were only really achieved by this band. The second half, with only moments of exception that return to the furious energy of the first, is a very different affair, easy toward the vocal standards, led by June Tyson's vocals and the joyous collective chanting of the band, for which they have become so widely celebrated, threading the sounds of off-kilter big band swing with heavy grooves and imagines of outer space.

MOUNIR, NANCY Nozhet El Nofous LP
2026 restock. Nancy Mounir's debut album, Nozhet El Nofous, is a remarkable communion with ghosts. Moody, hypnotic, and sneakily catchy, the album -- whose title means "Promenade of the Souls" in Arabic -- explores microtonality, non-metered rhythms, and bold vulnerability through a musical dialogue between Mounir's own arrangements and the sounds of archival recordings of once-famed singers from Egypt at the turn of the 20th century. Adding her own ambient arrangements over voices haunted with passion and desire as she creates a sound that is warmly familiar but utterly new. On the album, Mounir slips into the gaps left by the lost frequencies of the aging recordings, finding space for counterpoint and harmony in a traditional sound built on monophony. Elegant melodies unfold in measured gestures as Mounir -- who plays most of the instruments herself -- revels in the plaintive intonations and brash lyrics of the departed singers. With layers enmeshed together, it's at times hard to pin down when the past ends and the present begins, but beneath it all is a liberating attitude of defiance that feels timeless. Nozhet El Nofous is brilliant in the way it explores the techniques and perspectives of a more freewheeling time period in Arabic music, before Arabic maqam (modal systems) and other musical foundations were standardized by the Middle East's cultural power brokers in the early 1930s. As she summons a rich, atmospheric landscape of tone and texture, Mounir engages an older generation of musical rebels in a creative dialogue across time and space - and the results are stunning in their ambition and beauty. Mixed by Adham Zidan. Mastered by Heba Kadry. Remastered for vinyl by Matt Bordin at Outside Inside Studio. Artwork by Egyptian filmmaker and photographer Ahmad Abdalla, with original typography and design by Salma Shamel. Lyrics translation by Katharine Halls. Includes an eight-page booklet with lyrics in English and Arabic. Featuring Naima El Masreya, Saleh Abdel Hay, Abdel Latif El Banna, Mounira El Mahdeya, Hayat Sabry, Fatma Serry, and Zaki Mourad.

ZORN/ANDREA CENTAZZO/EUGENE CHADBOURNE/TOM CORRA/TOSHINORI KONDO/POLLY BRADFIELD, JOHN Environment for Sextet LP
2026 limited restock. Reissue, originally released in 1979. Recorded live at WKCR Radio in New York City in 1978 and issued by Ictus the following year, Environment for Sextet encounters John Zorn at the earliest stages of his career, resting within a sextet of a new generation of stunning improvisers emerging at the tail end of the '70s who would go on to define a vast swath of the '80s sound -- Polly Bradfield on violin, Andrea Centazzo on percussion, Eugene Chadbourne on guitar, Tom Corra on cello, and Toshinori Kondo on trumpet -- it roughly builds on the series of collaborations that had featured on Centazzo's 1978 Ictus LP U.S.A. Concerts. Launching from a total wall of sound -- full throttle fire on the boundaries of outright noise -- Environment for Sextet takes the listening on an endlessly surprising journey through its players' inner world, shifting between airy open passages that feature endless combinations of one or more players, to furious moments of sonorous lashings where the group falls in together in brilliant dialogical periods of conversant texture and tonal intervention. An engrossing and relentless listen from the first moment to the last -- featuring two works built from two of Andrea Centazzo's earliest graphic scores -- Environment for Sextet is an absolutely stunning body of improvised work by what were then among the most important rising stars on the free music scene.

VA Justice Dub: Rare Dubs from Justice Records 1975-1977 LP
2026 repress; LP version. The productions of producer Bunny 'Striker' Lee were so extensive in the early to mid-1970s that labels were created just to handle his ever-expanding output. Three labels that came about during this time when dub was king, were Jackpot, Justice and Attack. Here we look at the Justice label and have compiled a collection of some its finest dub cuts. Justice records was formed in the early 1970s as we stated earlier, as a subsidiary label to handle the ever growing output of Producer and hit maker from Jamaica Bunny 'Striker' Lee. Bunny worked in all the Jamaican studio's and as an independent operator would license his product to all the different labels in England and America. Bunny was at the birth of dub music and worked closely with King Tubby where he stored many of his masters, so Bunny's rhythms were always available for Tubby to work his magic over. Version had hit big around this time and many records were brought for the flip side dub of the vocal cut. The side that was proving so popular at the sound system dances, where the records were tried and tested. So inevitably nearly all Justice records carried its dub counterpart.

Kommanded by the songwriting and vocal power of Sascha 'K?pt'n K' Konietzko and Lucia Cifarelli, and backed by the percussive onslaught of Andy Selway, the band is now joined by London six-string slinger Tidor Nieddu bringing his own bold and vivid guitar flavors. On top of that, having hypnotized audiences on the band's 40th anniversary tour with her live rendition of 'Professional Killer,' Annabella Konietzko also appears with her own hit-list on the explosive 'YOU?,' marking her songwriting debut with KMFDM. Never a band to take the easy path, ENEMY delivers some of KMFDM's most stylistically challenging, most politically scathing material yet - from the dance/rock melodicism of 'Oubliette' to the darkened grooves of 'Catch & Kill,' the satirical brute force thrash of 'Outernational Intervention' to the vicious and hyperbolic industrial/metal of 'L'Etat,' the funky throb of 'Vampyre' to the cheeky dub of 'Stray Bullet 2.0.' ESKORBUTO Maldito Pa?s: Primera ?poca 1982-84 2CD
In Santurtzi, on the left bank of the Nervi?n estuary, a unique band was born: Eskorbuto. Iosu Exp?sito and Jualma Suarez lived in working class neighborhoods that had grown fast. Both Kabiezes and Mamariga were, in the '50s, mainly rural areas of Santurtzi. In the '60s, industrialization and rampant development transformed them into urban areas without any investment in urbanism. Some elements for the alchemy led to the explosion: intelligent young guys who were nevertheless incapable of adhering to school discipline, a country in full swing towards freedom after 40 years of dictatorship. It was a context very familiar with the turbulence of the "Basque conflict," with neighbors seduced by the "armed fight" and the "liberation of Euskal Herria," with the question of "identity" constantly present, traumatic episodes of killings, tortures and imprisonments. One day at the end of the '70s they decided to start a band. The first period of Eskorbuto's life, before the damage done by the needle became noticeable, was incredibly fruitful. They soon found a rehearsal space, thanks to their first drummer, and there the first songs were born. I?aki Laiseka played bass for them, and that role was also taken by "Seni" and "Garlopa", two precursors of "left bank" punk that played some gigs with them. Later on they found Paco Gal?n, who also came from a similar neighborhood to theirs (Rep?lega, in Portugalete). Paco always was the necessary engine, the piece around which the rest revolved, which guaranteed continuity. His drumming also added an apparently chaotic element to the already unbridled guitar melodies and visionary texts, halfway between dirty realism and Edgar Allan Poe's nightmares. These recordings are taken from those early times of excitement and vertigo, of journeys to Madrid under a train's seat and endless trips up and down the left bank looking for "someone that I've heard is selling an amp". Now the Reina Sof?a Museum exhibits their Impuesto Revolucionario LP and there's no Spanish speaking country without legions of fans.

Jes?s Amodia (guitar, vocals, programming, and keyboards) was a founding member of the punk-rock group P.V.P., a band often compared to The Clash and other British acts of the era thanks to their blend of punk energy with Jamaican influenced sounds. The project also features Per Mertanen (bass), member of cult band D?cima V?ctima, known for crafting a very distinctive sound with echoes of Joy Division, The Cure, and other British post-punk groups. Now united in this new musical adventure called Juegos Nocturnos, they present nine guitar-driven, sophisticated pop rock tracks that showcase influences shaped over more than four decades of musical career, recorded between 2020 and 2022.

LOS INDIOS Los Indios LP
The birth of Los Indios took place at a key moment for Bolivian music, in May 1968, during the "Festival de la Canci?n" held at the F?lix Capriles Stadium. This event was a milestone for the so-called Bolivian new wave, featuring various groups from all over the country. A month later, Jorge Filipo Dalence, in association with Freddy Valdivieso, decided to launch their own band, Los Indios, ready to make their mark on the music scene. Their discography includes one LP and a handful of EPs released on the Caracol and Imperio labels. Their album not only showcases their musical talent but also represents an important moment in the evolution of rock in Bolivia. The combination of their unique style helped open new doors for other artists in the country's music scene. By 1969, the group was enjoying overwhelming success and widespread popularity. This collection brings together some of their best recordings, captured over the course of their short life as a band, blending beat sounds with garage rawness through a repertoire full of covers of artists such as Deep Purple, Wilson Pickett, and Eduardo Araujo (via Los Iracundos). This is a joint release with the Peruvian label Rey Record and includes an insert with notes on the band's history.

VA Golpes 14x7" BOX
Golpes brings together some of the holy grails of Spanish post-punk in 7" format -- records that helped define the sound of the early '80s. This box set is a collection of rarities, but above all, a celebration of monumental songs that have become timeless anthems, transcending darkwave, la movida, and new wave alike. Just look at the lineup: "Autosuficiencia," "El Hospital," "Nacidos para dominar," "C?mo perdimos Berl?n," "Quiero ser santa," "Los Celos se apoderan de m?," and, of course, "Golpes." You'll find names like Alaska y los Pegamoides and Gabinete Caligari, who went on to achieve massive popularity and commercial success, alongside legendary artists such as Desechables and Par?lisis Permanente -- arguably Spain's most iconic post-punk band -- and cult favorites beloved by the most dedicated fans, like Agrimensor K and El ?ltimo Sue?o. This box set comprises impossible-to-find singles, genre classics, and rarities like the 12"s by Seres Vac?os or the mythical flexi by Alaska y los Pegamoides, now appearing for the first time ever on 7" vinyl. BURROUGHS, WILLIAM S. Ali's Smile LP
2026 restock. This record is divided into two sections. The first part is the title track and takes up most of side one. Ali's Smile was first published in 1971 and was privately released as a one-sided LP, in an edition of 99 copies. It came in a plain sleeve with a hardback copy of the spoken text, and was sold exclusively through Unicorn Bookshop in Brighton, UK. Bill Butler, the bookshop owner, was still paying off a viciously punitive fine and associated court costs imposed in 1968 after a guilty verdict in an obscenity trial. Burroughs, a "fellow American", was only too happy to help out by letting him have the rights to the recording. Rumors abound as to how many copies of the LP actually sold and how many were damaged after having been left on a heater, but, whatever the facts, this magnanimous gesture would still have been very handy. This is the first official reissue of this lost audio recording. A tale of revenge, heartless cruelty and amulet power, muddied with frequent recourse to Scientological references. The rest of the LP is taken up with 33 minutes of audio tape supplied by Burroughs in answer to various questions mailed to him by a freelance journalist. It also includes several readings from material he was working on at the time. The recordings date from 1963, which places them as some of, if not the, earliest in-depth recordings of his readings and thoughts. As this material dates from just before the publication of Nova Express, much of it serves as a useful companion and commentary on his Nova mythology. In the end only about ten minutes of this material ever got broadcast, and was used as part of an illustrated talk on the BBC's Third Programme. Sleeve notes on a numbered insert; edition of 1000.

ROSE, BRAD E. Sound Leaves CD
A note from Brad Rose: "The Sound Leaves began as an interactive sound performance and installation based around humans' impact on the environment and how that impact is altering the sonic landscape of our world. As ecosystems change due to climate collapse, the sound of those ecosystems changes too. The Sound Leaves used an amplified collection of autumn leaves to encourage participants to listen closely to how their actions alter the sounds of the fallen leaves by walking on and through them for a period of time. By amplifying these sounds, processing and mixing them live, and playing them back via a set of speakers directed at the installation, the performance heightened the sonic changes participants' actions create. From that performance, a sound piece by the same name was composed using the recorded sounds with additional instrumentation. It was installed as a temporary exhibition on site at Philbrook Musuem of Art during the winter of 2023, emanating from a grove of oak and elm trees. A year later, as the climate crisis worsened, those same sounds were reprocessed and reconsidered, creating a more ghost-like approach, 'In Collapse.'"

SHEA, DAVID Meditations CD
A note from David Shea: "Meditations is a set of eight works based on the experience of meditation practice. Music made for both meditation and reflecting the realities of a life of daily practice. The breath, the quietness, the listening, the distracted dissonant and consonant thoughts that pass through. The texts throughout the pieces are fragments of the Buddhist Heart Sutra, the shortest and created from a mixture of traditions and sources, produced long after Buddha's death and meant to be chanted or sung as a ritual and personal meditation. The experience of meditation, so often covered in mythology and one dimensionally peaceful symbols, is in fact a complex set of traditions in all cultures and has roots in indigenous cultures world wide and involves the limitations of thought as well as the quietness of the mind as a source of understanding and health. The Buddhist teachings that are in focus in this album are in a sense a sequel to the record Rituals of 2015 in that they are adapted as Meditations that cross and combine traditions with any attempt consciously to synthesize them into a new whole. A conversation between traders, in the form here of musicians , languages, sound sources and the peace and struggle of maintaining a real meditational practice and living in the chaos and violence of society as well as accepting the world as it is, with all of the internal conflicts and release and rise of tension. The musicians on these pieces also are recorded live in a group setting listening to each other with a shared space and character I create and through this listening the connections that form the final piece are made. The Heart Sutra which I read in the last piece of the eight is a translation which has been collaged by many schools and cultures that adapted the teachings to their indigenous religions. The bonus track is a live mix (called a Metta Mix) of a performance and collage of all this material and other new pieces, performed in a virtual avatar world called 'Second Life' for a live audience who listens and attends in their own avatars. All pieces on this set of recordings are a version of this in some ways, with the mix being something both from me and for those that listen. Meditations is both a document of practice, past and present and an experience of listening, both personal and the connective mix of us and all the things that are not us."

BLACK RAIN Obliteration Bliss CD
A note from Stuart Argabright: "Degraded, faded cities now empty of people. You can hear household appliances in the kitchens still talking, but only to each other. The phrases are distorted, unclear; broken English, Japanese and a few Korean and Chinese automated voices, syllables, shopping lists, play lists for dinner and recipes. Somewhere one of the machines is dialled in on an isolated pre-Buddhist monk chant, distant like from a high cliff meditation cell. The flow of the wide, long Black Mother River Kali Gandaki below them. Here is Obliteration Bliss A world in a flash of light. The world running faster and faster. Another biomorph escapes the facility...she disappears into a backwater jungle town. A witness to smoking remains and death after generation wars, ash snow dusted, scorched lands. Look into a huge room filled with ancient machines and stumble among the fossils by the old silver river. Before the wind reverses and chokes us with sand, grit and who knows what else direct from the Subcontinent. The evening fog closes around impossibly high tower buildings. A pack of racing bikes approaching, lights flaring. Still we linger in-between the shadows and the light. There's another voice calling, but its form is hazed in fading neon. It's raining again."

KNIGHT, PETER For A Moment The Sky Knew My Name CD
"This is music inspired by the water and the wind. By the tattoo of the insects' beating wings and the soughing of the wattle in the sea breeze. By the dull roll of the surf and the rhythm of my breath against the pad of my feet as I walk along the sandy, leaf-littered path through the scrub to the beach. The fingers of the fire-blackened dead banksias clawing the vicious blue. Somewhere, a peal of laughter is torn from its source and flies for a moment on the thermals rising from the baking sand. It is the summer of 2024/25 in Australia as the ideas for this album coalesce from a dozen different threads. I'm camping with my family on Krowathunkooloong land in the south-east corner of the country. The place where I grew up. The same beach where I spent every summer through my childhood. We swim every day in the ocean and in the late afternoons in the calm of the Yeerung River. The water, stained red brown by Melaleuca, turns my hand into a bloody ghost as I watch it sink. This place asks questions of me about belonging, about the relationship of the body to the wind. Of memory, of history, and of forgetting. Sound braces us in the now but simultaneously connects us to the past - a porous membrane between inner and outer worlds. I am walking up the hill behind the Yeerung with my trumpet in my backpack. Stopping to play momentarily. Trying to find a space in which I can resonate the sounds I make with those around me. The river is full from earlier rain and is threatening to break through the thin sandbank that separates its deep red pool from the gunmetal blue ocean. The heat gathers and the pulsing of the crickets intensifies." --Peter KnightPeter Knight is a composer, trumpeter, and curator whose practice thrives in the spaces between genres, categories, and cultures. His recent solo work extends the possibilities of his instrument with innovative approaches that interweave acoustic preparations, extended techniques with electroacoustic processing via laptop, vintage delays, and tape machines. Peter is interested in the use of repetition, rhythmic overlapping, slow harmonic evolution, and subtle timbral evolutions to shift our perceptions of linear time.

ES Planet Beyond: Selected Cuts Volume 1 LP
Planet Beyond: Selected Cuts Volume 1 marks the first release on Ruiger Records, presenting the distinctive world of ES -- a Dutch producer, multi-instrumentalist, and visual artist whose work flows effortlessly between live performance and studio creation. Selected from an ever-growing archive built over the years, the music emerges from a deep vault of unreleased recordings spanning a wide range of moods and ideas. This collection offers a deeper look into a vivid creative universe of sound and feeling -- a story that unfolds through rhythm, tone, and emotion. Each track adds a new shade to the journey, like a jigsaw falling into place, revealing new dimensions with every turn. The music moves through eras and atmospheres -- carrying echoes of '90s electronic music and shaped by the spirit of '70s jazz and funk. It's expressive, natural, and percussive, full of motion and detail, where live playing, studio craft, and imagination merge into one seamless flow. The sound drifts from deep, funky electronic grooves to spacious, cinematic, and cosmic landscapes -- music that invites you deeper with every listen. It sounds both new and familiar -- as if rediscovering something ageless, still unfolding.

HIGH SPAN, THE Blithering LP
"The High Span provide a strange and special blend of DIY post-pop jangle and edgier experimental sounds, of lyric-driven guitar-indie and a bit of English awkwardness. Based in Rochester, Kent, the quartet formed around the songwriting of Kevin Younger (Subway Sect, Ye Ascoyne d'Ascoynes, Baby Birkin, The Speed of Sound and others), with fellow Medway music veteran Mark Aitken (of Ye Ascoyne d'Ascoynes, The Men From Memphis, Bob Collins & The Full Nelson, These Guilty Men and others) and expat Nova Scotian James Moore (of Pod, One Free Fall and revered Canadian alt-rockers Rusty), joined by backing vocalist Sarah Post. The High Span unleashed their Quirky Miniboss Squad EP in August of 2020 (yeah, that year), and managed to grab attention from press and public alike, selected as one of Record Collector's singles of the year, as did their debut, self-titled album in 2023. This new album allows The High Span to continue their edgier experimental sounds. The songs range lyrically from lost-love trauma ('Phantom Limb') and weird recurring dreams ('Ambrosine'), to the anarchist scares of late 19th-century Paris ('Superintendent Baeker'). The band covering the Velvet Monkeys' 1981 US psych-punk stormer 'Everything Is Right' also seems very much right. Limited to 300 copies on vinyl."

WILD BILLY CHILDISH & CTMF Searching From The Losing Place/Batman 7"
"Wild Billy Childish has been recording and performing since the 1977 punk explosion. The Pop Rivets, Thee Milkshakes, The Headcoats and The Buff Medways being just a few outfits that Billy has been involved with. All that is just a hobby -- his day job is being an internationally exhibited artist, writer and vermin poet. CTMF (The Chatham Forts) was the first group name Billy came up with for a group whilst he was Head of Research for The Medway Military Research Group -- investigating the Medway Fortifications (as well as being an Apprentice Stonemason at Chatham Dockyard, Kent, 1976). It wasn't until 2013 that Billy got around to utilizing the name. CTMF features his wife Julie on bass/vocals and Wolf Howard on drums (both playing with Billy in previous incarnations over the years). CTMF -- described by Billy as 'the epitome of modern: the sound of yesterday, tomorrow!' -- have released ten albums and over thirty singles/EPs. Wild Billy Childish & CTMF found themselves in the studio, once again cutting some of the finest noise to ruin the peace and quiet of the muddy River Medway. 'Searching From The Losing Place' takes Face A, with 'Batman' for Face B. Limited to 500 copies."

BOMAN/TRENSUM TRIBE, AXEL LUZ/Quest for fire IN DUB! LP
Axel Boman's critically acclaimed double album LUZ/Quest For Fire from 2022 gets a remix and dub treatment from one of Scandinavia's finest reggae-and-beyond soundsystems, Trensum Tribe. Having been heavily inspired by Mad Professor's work for Massive Attack since a young age, a project like this had been a dream of Axel Boman's for decades. There is a certain freedom that comes with remixing, where you can step outside yourself as a producer and take risks and chances you might not in your own work, and Trensum Tribe really took an adventurous new path when they approached this music. On this homage to soundsystem and rave culture, jungle, dub, disco and house all become best friends in front of a huge stack of homemade speakers, standing tall on fresh dew in a Swedish forest on a cold summer night.

TORTOISE Millions Now Living Will Never Die LP
2026 repress, black vinyl. "Millions Now Living Will Never Die is the second full-length offering from Tortoise. The majority of the material was first conceived during an idyllic 10-day retreat in Northern Vermont, where the group were able to explore their ideas in a setting that fostered introspection and inspiration: the results are clearly evident in the washes of Klangf?rben (tone color) and rhythm that permeate the album. The sounds and ideas contained therein can be viewed as a logical extension of those found their first (eponymous) LP on Thrill Jockey where the group outlined an agenda exploring texture, space, and mood. MNLWND, however, offers not only an expansion of those ideas but also the introduction of several new elements into the musical equation. New instrumental textures (marimbas and other mallet percussion on "Djed" (pronounced "jed"); conventional electric guitar on "Glass Museum"; analog synthesis/sequencing and found sound on "Dear Grandma and Grandpa") and structural ideas (the extended formal procedures of "Djed"; the non-narrative song "Along the Banks of Rivers") represent clear developments and redefinition's of the group's sound. Recording commenced immediately upon returning to Chicago, though due to a variety of reasons, the entire recording and mixing process became elongated. This less hurried approach to album making allowed the group to explore more of the possibilities inherent in the material; the 21-minute "Djed" is ample proof of this. The final version of the track went through approximately 15 different stages of mixing and editing. Like their debut, MNLWND was recorded and mixed by John McEntire (also at that time had produced material by Stereolab, Run On, The Sea and Cake, Trans Am, and Come). The majority of the album was recorded and mixed at Idful Music Corporation in Chicago, with the remainder being realized at the newly established SOMA Electronic Music Studios. MNLWND is the first studio recording to feature the talents of David Pajo, who joined to fill the position vacated by Bundy K. Brown in late 1994."

HIRANO, MIDORI OTONOMA CD
"The artistry of Midori Hirano lives in the resonance between sonic and visual worlds. Over her distinguished career the Berlin-based, Kyoto born composer, pianist, and synthesist has crafted a distinctive voice straddling the spheres of classical music and harmonies with abstraction and invention. In addition to works under her own name, Hirano has released dynamic experiments under her MimiCof moniker as well as composed for film, television, art exhibitions and architectural expos. Hirano has also been a prolific collaborator, working with CoH, Brueder Selke, Nils Mosh, Teodor Wolgers, Ben Lukas Boysen and Paul Emmerich, SPECIMENS, Mami Sakurai, Atsuko Hatano, and more, contributing to dozens of releases. Hirano is acclaimed for crafting emotive works that stimulate all the senses with impressionism, or painting with sound. OTONOMA is the culmination of her work synthesizing these elements and highlights her acumen as a practiced and intuitive artist. The album infuses Hirano's more classical sense of harmony on the piano with the endless textural possibilities of synthesizers. Like nebulas coalescing into galaxies, the pieces of OTONOMA emanate hues dense with subtle layers of color folded into gradients, arresting and radiant. In Japanese the word 'Oto' means 'sound' and 'Ma' refers to the 'space' or 'interval' between things. So, 'Otonoma' literally means 'the space between sounds.' In classical usage, 'Ma' can also mean 'room' which allows a different reading, 'a room of sounds.' 'Illuminance,' a foundational track on the album, has rich textures and a searching modular synth. 'Ame, Hikari' was initially composed for a photo exhibition of Japanese artist Rinko Kawauchi's work at Fotografiska Berlin and captures the rain (ame) and light (hikari) of Kawauchi's photos. The stately lone piano of 'Rainwalk' offers a minimalist, affecting snapshot of a moment in time while pieces like 'Aurora' take a more wide-eyed, macrocosmic view with fluttering electronics and a surging drone. Throughout OTONOMA, Hirano's compositions seep over their sonic borders and through the complex intersection of rhythm and tone are an affecting listen. The intersection between sound and space embodies the architecture of this beautiful impressionistic album. In the deft hands of its architect, Midori Hirano, the music is remarkable for its reflective and connective beauty, a sensational sensorial experience."

JAKOBSONS, MARIELLE V The Patterns Lost to Air CD
"Marielle V Jakobsons has cultivated a signature voice molded by minimalist, ambient and spiritual traditions. Her recordings, from her early work with Date Palms, to the ongoing work with Chuck Johnson in Saariselka, and most definitively with The Patterns Lost to Air, show Jakobsons to be an exceptionally skillful sound sculptor, a musician who knows the value of patience and control. An artist able to derive maximum impact from her chosen sound elements, the album's layout is shaped by three primary voices of violin, Fender Rhodes, and Moog Matriarch and was recorded in 2024 in the studio Jakobsons built in Oakland, California, its huge windows overlooking a backyard with olive and palm trees, nesting towhees and hummingbirds. The Patterns lost to Air was also born of personal change for Jakobsons brought on by the health effects of long COVID, as well as an intentional musical shift from drones to working with scores and written music as she leaned in on her classical training, and harmonic writing. It was more than an evolution, it was a need to redefine who and what she was, down to the molecular level, because she could no longer create music in the same way, which became a galvanizing motif for The Patterns Lost to Air. On The Patterns Lost to Air, each piece emerges from a place of necessary restriction, discovering how limitation itself can become a portal to new territories of sound and meaning. The pieces make use of loops and slowly shifting patterns that gracefully decay with time. Through sonic landscapes of Fender Rhodes piano, synthesizers, and strings, the album investigates the space between those patterns like threads of memory, each tone transfiguring and dissolving together. Imagining the forms and shapes that sound takes as its projected into a listening space, and how they are 'lost to air' as they morph and decay. This physicality of sound is a theme in her work in general, and this album is directly a conversation on that aspect.""The minutest vibrations are as expressive as the most sweeping gesture" --Pitchfork

COSTA, GAL Gal Costa (1969) LP
Released in 1969, Gal Costa is the album that cemented Gal as one of the boldest voices of Brazil's Tropicalia movement -- and it still sounds thrillingly alive today. Coming right after the genre-shaking Tropic?lia ou Panis et Circencis, this LP captures a moment when Brazilian music was breaking rules, blending psychedelia, rock, samba, and poetic experimentation into something totally new. Gal's voice is the real star here: warm, fearless, and incredibly expressive. She moves effortlessly from soft, intimate moments to explosive, full-throttle performances, always sounding confident and emotionally present. Backed by adventurous arrangements and songs from key Tropicalia figures like Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil, the album feels both playful and politically charged, even when it's being subtle. Several tracks stand out as absolute classics. "Baby" is a highlight right away -- cool, tender, and deceptively simple, with Gal delivering Caetano Veloso's lyrics in a way that feels both innocent and quietly radical. On the other end of the spectrum, "Divino, Maravilhoso" is pure intensity: urgent, raw, and electrifying, capturing the restless spirit of the era and showcasing Gal's power at full blast. "N?o Identificado" leans into dreamy psychedelia, floating between romance and cosmic imagery, while "Que Pena" shows her knack for turning heartbreak into something irresistibly melodic and catchy. What makes this record special is its balance. It's experimental without being alienating, sophisticated without losing its groove. Tracks flow naturally, pulling you into a colorful, slightly rebellious world that reflects the cultural tension and creativity of late-'60s Brazil. If you're curious about Tropicalia or just want a timeless album driven by pure vocal charisma, Gal Costa (1969) is an essential listen.

LOS ROGER'S Que Ardiente! LP
Iquitos, one of Peru's most remote cities and the capital of its Amazon region, was the epicenter of the psychedelic cumbia movement. Countless bands emerged from this place, each with a different fate in their musical journeys. Some rose to become international stars and flag bearers of cumbia, while others remained local legends, their fame never traveling far beyond the Amazon jungle. Los Roger's achieved great success in Iquitos and served as the foundation and inspiration for many local bands that emerged in the late 1960s and early 1970s. ?Qu? ardiente! combines the best of the band's limited discography. The recordings come from their first 45 RPM single and their two mini-LPs for the FTA label, as well as their only elusive LP from 1971, ?Qu? ardiente!, ("How Burning!") recorded for the prestigious IEMPSA label. Their discography dives deep into Cuban-influenced sounds, where the guitar shares the spotlight with powerful percussion and -- with tracks like "Descarga Roger's" -- with the vocals as well. Los Roger's came to an abrupt end just one year after the release of their LP, at the peak of their career, due to their disappointments with the music industry.

?ngel V?squez brought Antillean shades into the accordion tradition of a region overflowing with juglares, as the Colombian northern coast has always been. V?squez built a monumental songbook where pachanga, charanga, son, cumbia, and even the Puerto Rican countryside, Boricua sound, played leading roles. His few recordings carried a remarkable stylistic range, making it difficult to put him into any single category -- a quality that led to a style he himself called vasques?n. In the early seventies, he released through Discos Fuentes a single that would become one of the anthems of the Barranquilla Carnival: "Pica pica en carnaval," a tropical, electrifying gem with a guarachero flow so unmistakable that it's still a staple in verbenas, neighborhood dances, and pic? parties today. La gustadera comprises a muscular, rhythm-packed ride moving from pachanga to paseaito, passing through charanga, porro, son and, of course, vasques?n -- a full-on celebration where the accordion leads the dance. Here, direct lines are drawn between Colombian coastal folklore and Afro-Antillean sound -- pure joy painted with the everyday imagery of coastal life. First time reissue of this mega rare ?ngel V?squez album.

DE BELEM, FAFA Emorio 7"
Singer and actress Faf? de Bel?m is one of Brazil's most beloved and popular artists. This vinyl single from 1975 marked the very beginning of her long and successful career in Brazilian popular music and, over the years, has become a highly sought-after collector's item among DJs worldwide. The record features two tracks, "?mori?" and "Naturalmente," written by Jo?o Donato alongside Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso, originally released on his album Lugar Comum that same year. Faf? de Bel?m's versions, however, strip away the originals' sophisticated arrangements in favor of a more driving groove and a raw, funky edge that makes them absolute dancefloor weapons.

VELOSO, CAETANO Transa LP
2026 repress. Transa is the fourth album by Brazilian musician Caetano Veloso, released on 1972 by PolyGram. Like its predecessor, it was recorded while the artist was exiled in London, though he returned to Brazil shortly after completing it. Evocative, eclectic, intimate, and rhythmically complex, Transa contains everything that has made Caetano Veloso the most distinctive and, arguably, most important voice in modern Brazilian music. The record was cut in 1972, shortly after Veloso's return from political exile in England. Though the songs are not overtly political, they seem allegorical, celebratory, and plaintive at once, and point to a tension between the artist's expressive impulse and the strictures of his native country. This tension is further heightened by the presence of lyrics in both English and Portuguese. The beautiful, desperate "You Don't Know Me" may be the world's first bilingual bossa nova/folk-punk anthem of identity. The jazzy "Nine Out of Ten" gives way to the gear-shifting "Triste Bahia," which features webs of accelerating Brazilian percussion. A spare treatment of the classic samba "Mora Na Filosofia," the cosmic ditty "Neolithic Man," and the 12-bar "Nostalgia," (ending with the wise line "That's What Rock 'n Roll Is All About") close out the set. Transa is a jewel in Veloso's discography and a must for anyone interested in Brazilian pop -- or brilliant, original pop in general. 180 gram vinyl.

REKAB The Last Talk of the Machines 12"
James Baker aka ReKaB passed away very recently and so unexpectedly. He had only submitted the music for his new EP for YORE less than two weeks before his sudden passing. The original title was meant to be Let the Machines Talk, but the label decided to change it to The Last Talk of the Machines. It feels not only sad but also surreal to hear music that was created only shortly before, knowing James is no longer with us in embodied existence. This is the very last talk of his loved Machines.
