JPATTERSSON Mood CD
Naked feet and warm sand, a salty breeze rustling in the leaves of the palm trees, the intoxicating gravity of an ice-cold bottle in the hand... jPattersson brings up nine shimmering pearls from the dubby depths of his repertoire and adds them to exactly this chain of associations. Mood gives expression to an unquenched thirst for musical innovation and to a growing maturity. While the soul of jPattersson still reverberates through the frequencies of his trumpet and his voice, his third album sounds all new and different again. About half of the tracks have a classic song structure, with all the ensuing catchiness. In-between these tunes there's everything from tropical tipsiness to hypnotic depth. In consequence, it's a wonderful album to listen to from beginning to end -- and at the same time made for the dancefloor. Features Lore and Guacáyo. Remix by Kermesse.

SOLLMANN, PHILLIP Monophonie CD
Following 2019's New Atlantis album under his experimental techno alias Efdemin, Phillip Sollmann's Monophonie is a project dedicated to uniting different strands of utopian music. His approach: combining and recontextualizing rare historical instruments of sonic research of Hermann von Helmholtz (19th century) with the self-designed, microtonal instruments of Harry Partch and metal sound sculptures of Harry Bertoia. The result is a psychedelic investigation into just intonation -- alternative tuning systems that create unique sets of harmonics not found in conventional scales. Monophonie recasts these sounds into new rhythmic environments where epic kosmische, polyrhythms, acoustic techno, and microtonal glow are interwoven into a rare music. Over nine tracks, the album explores multiple forms of minimalism, from unwavering repetition to pared-down chords and sparse sonic environments. But it also seeks to expand the sound spectrum of Partch's custom built organs and melodic percussion instruments as well as Bertoia's sonambient singing metal rods into an atmospheric otherworldliness. Monophonie was first composed in 2016 and premiered at Berlin's Volksbühne theatre in 2017, before it went on to the renowned Ruhrtriennale and Kampnagel in Hamburg. It was performed by one of Germany's premier neue musik collectives Ensemble Musikfabrik together with Sollmann himself on von Helmholtz's original double siren, with set design by Michael Kleine and wardrobe by Peter Kisur of Honeysuckle Company.

PLEASE Circus Days: A Collection of Demos and Studio Recordings 1967-1969 CD
"Sink into a vision of a dreamy psychedelic universe which seems to have been Peter Dunton's own on Circus Days, the third collection of previously unreleased recordings from Dunton's late 1960's British psychedelic band, Please. If Sonny Rollins is the 'Saxophone Colossus' (and he is -- I love Sonny Rollins, a true lion of jazz), surely Peter Dunton is a top contender for Underground Psychedelia Colossus: Neon Pearl (1967); the Flies (1968); Please (1967 and 1969); Gun (1969); songwriting for Infinity (1969-70); and of course, the band he is best known for, one of the most important underground psychedelic bands to ever devise trippy music and lay it down on tape, T2 (1969-1972). Psychedelic music lovers like us love Peter Dunton's music. Madlib loves him too. Dunton wrote an incredible amount of material during the psychedelic era. Like so many other musicians before him, he moved on, thinking that these recordings had no magic to them. But nothing could have been less true. Getting to hear the demo version of the monumental 'Morning' from T2's epochal 'It'll All Work Out in Boomland' is a chill-maker if ever there was one. This release follows on from two other superb albums of unreleased music by Please, '1968-1969' and 'Seeing Stars'. The music on Circus Days can easily be filed next to that of contemporary bands like Blossom Toes, Forever Amber, Tomorrow, July, and an album which is now lauded as one of the best of the era, Odessey And Oracle by The Zombies. Circus Days contains the previously mentioned essential highlight -- the original 1969 demo version of 'Morning,' later to appear on T2's fabulous It'll All Work Out in Boomland album. Other earlier demos including the classic 'Gently As You Feel,' and 'To Dream,' a which features additional female vocals. Booklet includes lyrics and some background on the 1960's work life of Peter Dunton. Last but certainly not least, our Acme/Lion Circus Days CD edition includes three bonus tracks not on the LP version."

ROHRER/MAX LODERBAUER/STIAN WESTERHUS/TOBIAS FREUND, SAMUEL Kave LP
New quartet by Samuel Rohrer, Max Loderbauer, Stian Westerhus, and Tobias Freund. In the present era of media saturation, the artist's dilemma has shifted away from the question whether to fuse disparate stylistic elements, towards the decision of which energies to draw upon: a situation most rewarding for those who listen to musicians navigating this limitless terrain. One such journey, the captivating full-length release from Samuel Rohrer's new Kave quartet, is bringing together players who are equally well-versed in the quick-thinking mechanics of free group improvisation and the compositional strategies of contemplative/"ambient" electronic music. With Rohrer acting as creative director and most of the quartet sharing synthesizer duties, there's a strong sense of unified purpose to this set, and a narrative flow that never causes the listener to focus on one constituent part at the expense of the whole. At the same time, the players know all well that cohesion counts for little without those constituent parts being compelling in their own right. Rohrer and Loderbauer, for example, have previously crafted a unique techno-organic approach with the Ambiq trio, and the lessons learned from that partnership are put to inspired use within this new configuration. Stian Westerhus's contributions on guitar and vocals, along with Tobias Freund's electronic reinforcements -- Freund also has worked since many years with Max Loderbauer as NSI -- all conspire to make something that Rohrer aptly compares as "forest"-like. It's a descriptor that will have vastly different meanings for each listener. The introductory odyssey "Cambium" the quartet sets out to make good on this metaphor, creating a hypnotic foundation for what is about to unfold during the next 42 minutes, with brooding, slow, "searchlight in a fog," synth washes and percussive stridulation. The twin "Hibernation" tracks show all the unique elements beginning to coalesce: the emotional tenor is one of vulnerability that melts into the determination of "staring into the void," a temperamental state challenging to represent authentically in music. The atmosphere of psychic challenge effortlessly gives way to the faintly nostalgic glimmers of "Giant Peach" -- a reference to Roald Dahl. The ultimate dissolution of barriers between organicism and synthesis is accomplished on the majestic "Divided We Fall," a title referring to Westerhus's smoky vocalization that winds into a double helix formed from electronic surges.

MCTELL, BLIND WILLIE Atlanta Twelve String (180-Gram Vinyl) LP
2020 repress. Stereo reissue on 180-gram vinyl. Originally released in 1972. "Manufactured by Rhino Records. Produced under license from Atlantic Recording Corp." "In 1949, a brief flurry of interest in old-timey country blues resulted in this 15-song session by Blind Willie McTell for the newly formed Atlantic Records. Only two songs, 'Kill It Kid' and 'Broke Down Engine Blues,' were ever issued on a failed single, and the session was forgotten until almost 20 years later. McTell is mostly solo here, vividly captured on acoustic 12-string (his sometime partner Curley Weaver may have been present on some tracks), and in excellent form. The playing and the repertory are representative of McTell as he was at this point in his career, a blues veteran rolling through his paces without skipping a beat and quietly electrifying the listener. Songs include 'Dying Crapshooter's Blues,' 'The Razor Ball,' and 'Ain't I Grand to Live a Christian.'" --Bruce Eder, AllMusic

BENEFICIARIES (JEFF MILLS/EDDIE FOWLKES/JESSICA CARE MOORE), THE The Crystal City Is Alive 2LP
LP version. Includes one-page insert. In 2018, the idea was introduced by Jeff Mills to address the lack of artistic collaborations within and from the city of Detroit. The city had always been an engine of new innovative ideas related to music, art, dance, poetry, and all other arts. It was thought of as a way to demonstrate the commonality people possess from various art forms and that by mixing ideas visions and perspectives together are might produce unexpected and often provocative results. The project started when Mills reached out to one of Detroit techno's founder and legendary DJ/producer Eddie Fowlkes. Though the two are known and connected to Detroit techno and knew each other for decades, they never worked together so the first few meetings and conversations were marked with finding all the common links that have built both of their careers. During this time, Mills wanted to find a third person for the project, one that was from Detroit, but not a musician. His idea was that by engaging two other creative thinkers would most likely produce something unique as emotions would become linked together to find that common, but higher level. While browsing the web, Mills discovered a post that featured the Detroit-born poet Jessica Care Moore. Struck by her words and the energy she mastered to say them, Mills knew immediately that she would be the perfect artist to approach for this creative venture. As with most artists that grew up in Detroit, they immediately opened up the links in their past, present, and future outlook. He presented the case and explained to her how he thought it might work. She liked the idea and agree to join. The Crystal City Is Alive (A phrase extracted from Moore's words), puts the Detroit, America, and the world on notice. The alarm has sounded and it is now time to mobilize all creative units to the frontline. CD version includes eight-page booklet. Double LP version includes one-page insert.

KANCHELI Earthshaketrance 12"
Get ready to get into the Earthshaketrance. With his background in jazz music, Kancheli shows a finely attuned feel for rhythm. Trance leaning tunes on the A side tickle your dancing soles, making them peak time material. Playing with emotive evocations of hope, this is music to transcend to. The B side strikes a darker chord, with Kancheli using acid synths and combining them with vocals reminiscent of wave. The release finishes on a remix by Volruptus. All in all, the well-crafted first solo release of a dancefloor favorite.

LUCIER, ALVIN Works for the Ever Present Orchestra 2CD
Black Truffle's documentation of the prolific recent work of legendary American composer Alvin Lucier continues with Works for the Ever Present Orchestra. This is a very special release for the composer, as it presents pieces written for the thirteen-member Ever Present Orchestra, formed in 2016 exclusively to perform Lucier's works. At the heart of the ensemble are four electric guitars, an instrument Lucier began composing for in 2013 with Criss-Cross recorded by two core members of the Ever Present Orchestra, Oren Ambarchi and Stephen O'Malley, for whom it was composed (BT 033LP, 2017). Through the use of e-bows, the guitars take on a role akin to the slow sweep pure wave oscillators heard in many of Lucier's works since the early 1980s, but with added harmonic richness. Like much of Lucier's instrumental music, the pieces recorded here focus on acoustic phenomena, especially beating patterns, produced by the interference between closely tuned pitches. The work presented here is some of the richest and most inviting that Lucier has composed. Though all of the pieces clearly belong to the same continuing exploration of the behavior of sound in physical space and make use of related compositional devices, each takes on a strikingly different character. "Titled Arc", for the full ensemble of four guitars, four saxophones, four violins, piano, and bowed glockenspiel inhabits a world of sliding, uneasy tones, punctuated by a single piano note. Where "Double Helix", for four guitars, rests on a pillow of warm, low hum, EPO-5, for two guitars, saxophone, violin, and glockenspiel possess a limpid, crystalline quality. Accompanying the four new compositions are two adaptations of existing pieces for radically different instrumentation, demonstrating Lucier's excitement about the new possibilities suggested by this dedicated ensemble. Works for the Ever Present Orchestra is an essential document of the current state of Lucier's continuing exploration, as well as offering a seductive entry-point for anyone who might yet be unacquainted with his singular body of work. Cover artwork and liner notes from Alvin Lucier. Double-CD release comes in four-panel digipak with a 16-page booklet with live photos. Disc two of the double-CD version release includes the bonus Adaptions for the Ever Present Orchestra featuring two pieces ("Two Circles" and "Braid"), not included on the vinyl version.

ALIT & GAMELAN SALUKAT, DEWA Genetic LP
Black Truffle announce Genetic, the first release outside Indonesia from contemporary Balinese composer Dewa Alit and his Gamelan Salukat. Alit is a major force in contemporary Indonesian music, presenting his work extensively throughout Asia, Europe, and North America and collaborating with renowned ensembles such as Bang On A Can and Ensemble Modern. Involved in the composition and performance of works for Gamelan ensemble since he was a teenager, in 2007 he founded Gamelan Salukat, a 25-member ensemble that perform on instruments specially built to Alit's designs, using a unique 11-note scale. The single composition that unfurls over the two sides of Genetic is an enchanting introduction to Alit's magical sound world. Beginning with a stately procession of isolated, hanging chords sounded on the ensemble's uniquely-tuned metallophones, the piece abruptly launches into a stunning passage of rhythmically complex call-and-response motifs, making striking use of abruptly muted chords -- one of many moments where the acoustic ensemble sounds uncannily electronic. The piece continues to alternate between spare investigations of resounding tones and sometimes frenetic ensemble interplay using unorthodox techniques, including a stunning moment around half-way when the entire Gamelan seems to transform itself into a single, gigantic zither. Later in the piece, drums and wind instruments enter, and the metallophones begin to play virtuosic, rapid-fire passages of fragmented scalar melody. As Alit explains in his liner notes, the music of Gamelan Salukat is grounded in the tradition of Balinese Gamelan; however, he approaches this tradition not as something static, but as a set of concepts and principles that can be used to create something radically new. For many listeners, Genetic will inhabit precisely this space between the familiar and the invigoratingly unheard, as it takes the stop-start dynamics, unison melodies, and much of the instrumentation familiar from traditional Balinese Gamelan and puts them in the service of rhythmic, harmonic, and timbral experimentation, crafting a work possessed by at once by mysterious grandeur and a joyous volatility.

DREYBLATT, ARNOLD Star Trap LP
Star Trap presents a selection of hitherto unreleased 1990s recordings from Arnold Dreyblatt and his Orchestra of Excited Strings. Following on from Black Truffle's wide-ranging archival Second Selection (2015), which presented a smorgasbord of unreleased material from between 1978 and 1989, Star Trap mines Dreyblatt's extensive archive of unheard recordings from the 1990s, uncovering six pieces performed by three different iterations of the Orchestra of Excited Strings. While Dreyblatt often performs in his ensembles on his signature Excited Strings Bass (a double bass strung with piano wire), here we find him in the composer's chair and behind the mixing desk, leading ensembles of modified percussion, string, and wind instruments. Four of the pieces make use of Dreyblatt's Dynamic Processing System (heard on a stunning pair of solo pieces for electric guitar featured on Second Selection), in which the opening and closing of digital noise gates are controlled by an external signal (in this case, a recording of faulty escalator). Rather than the relentless thudding rhythms of 1980s works like Nodal Excitations, the ensemble pieces here are closer to the propulsive, at times even funky rhythmic foundation of Dreyblatt's classic Animal Magnetism (Tzadik, 1995), but further enlivened by the unpredictable accents of the Dynamic Processing System. On "Escalator", a six-piece version of the Orchestra performs the notated stuttering rhythms and shifting accents of the gated escalator recordings, without the actual Dynamic Processing System being audible. On the remaining two pieces, composed for the tenth anniversary of the Orchestra of Excited Strings in Europe, Dreyblatt made use of algorithmic software to generate material. But far from austere exercises, these pieces are perhaps the most immediate of all, as the Orchestra exuberantly tears through a sequence of repeating rhythmic and melodic cells, dazzling the ear with the overtones generated by Dreyblatt's twenty-note microtonal scale. At times recalling aspects of the work of Peter Zummo or Arthur Russell's Instrumentals, but with a massive dose of sonic heft, this is music for both the mind and the body. Mastered and cut by Kassian Troyer at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin. Design by Lasse Marhaug. Includes liner notes by Arnold Dreyblatt.

WUSTHOFF, GUNTHER Total Digital LP
LP version. Having completed his military service as a naval radio operator, Gunther Wüsthoff was in the midst of his German and fine art studies when he encountered Rudolf Sosna and Jean-Hervé Peron. It was May 1969 and each of them had a guitar so they decided to make music together. Polydor International headhunter Uwe Nettelbeck tracked them down on February 23 1971, prompting them to form the legendary krautrock band Faust with three other Hamburg musicians a few days later. Wüsthoff stayed with the band for five album and three tours through France and Great Britain before leaving in 1974. In subsequent decades, Wüsthoff had various technical jobs at Studio Hamburg and Filmhaus Hamburg and also studied technical editing so he could work as a freelancer. He continued to play music, introducing electronic instruments and computers into his work at an early stage. [to|digi]tal (pronounced "total digital"), a collection spanning the years 1979-2007, offers a clear insight into how he consciously integrated these means of production into the recording process."Motto: Due to previous but also temporary excesses of mainstream consumption and the omnipresent, repetitive emissions of the western world's music industry, devoid of contours and as slick as possible, we are faced with an indissoluble weariness. A criterion for music one can listen to today is, for me, that an element of friction is present: temporally, metrically, rhythmically, tonally or harmonically. Or that somewhere, something is somehow imperfect. Only then can music be truly alive." --Gunther Wüsthoff, 2005

SCHNITZLER & FRANK BRETSCHNEIDER, CONRAD Con-Struct LP
LP version. About the Con-Struct series: Conrad Schnitzler liked to embark on daily excursions through the sonic diversity of his synthesizers. Finding exceptional sounds with great regularity, he preserved them for use in combination with each other in subsequent live performances. He thus amassed a vast sound archive of his discoveries over time. When the m=minimal label in Berlin reissued two Conrad Schnitzler albums at the outset of the 2010s, label honcho Jens Stru?ver was granted access to this audio library. Stru?ver came up with the idea of con-structing new compositions, not remixes, from the archived material. On completion of the first Con-Struct album (MINIMAL 007CD/LP, 2011), he decided to develop the concept into a series, with different electronic musicians invited into Schnitzler's unique world of sound.Frank Bretschneider on his "Con-Structions": "I read the name Conrad Schnitzler for the first time in the article about Tangerine Dream in the Rowohlt Rock Lexicon from 1973. The first time I heard his music was only in 1980, when his wave track 'Auf dem Schwarzen Kanal' was played on the radio . . . It wasn't until 1988 that I heard from Schnitzler again, a tape on Jo?rg Thomasius's East Berlin Kro?ten Kassetten label. And again almost ten years later his Plate Lunch CDs Rot and 00/106 (1997). But it was all too rough and raw for me, both in terms of sound and organization, kind of mechanically and not really cool. Only after I heard Wolfgang Seidel at the NBI around 2002 with one of his tape concerts, I came slowly closer. Schnitzler's early role as cofounder of two influential bands is one reason for the ongoing reception. Another is his consequence as an artist. 'I'm not interested in having publicity or a public feedback' he declared in an 1996 interview. It remains an open question whether one has to completely refuse to do so. But I was always fascinated by this almost extinct way of being an artist in its full independence. Just as I feel connected, as a self-taught person and as someone who prefers to look forward instead of looking back: 'I don't want nostalgia.' After all it was Jens Stru?ver who inspired me to work with Conrad Schnitzer's material. I had the idea of flowing music in which patterns develop, shift, dissolve and finally reorganize. A modular system seemed the most suitable to connect Schnitzler's world with my own by triggering and modulating his sounds via a sampling module and supplementing them with my own."

SCHNITZLER, CONRAD Con LP
LP version. Bureau B present a reissue of Conrad Schnitzler's Con, originally released in 1978. Conrad Schnitzler: In the electric garden by Wolfgang Seidel, May 2020: "... Whilst on shore leave in Düsseldorf, Conrad Schnitzler heard about a professor at the School of Art (Kunstschule) who also accepted students into his class without high school diplomas. Conrad Schnitzler became one of them. The spirit of a fundamental new beginning bonded this generation of artists together, with Karlheinz Stockhausen and Gottfried Michael Koenig the most radical proponents. Perhaps it was due to the fact that music had been so corrupted under National Socialist rule, from classical to the Schlager variety. Schnitzler was fascinated by the new sounds he heard on the radio in the evenings. To his ears, they connected the struggle for independence to the planning and precision he had learned as a mechanical engineer. At the same time, he understood that music like this was only possible within an institutional framework to which he had no access. So, he set about creating his own framework. Schnitzler bought his first synthesizer in the early 1970s -- a considerable investment at the time. The introduction of the compact cassette had liberated duplication and distribution from the realm of the record company, but Schnitzler also recognized the creative potential of the medium, beyond its practical functions. He built a 'cassette organ' out of 12 cassette recorders and two cases for his musical collages. Towards the end of the decade, he could be found on the Kurfürstendamm, West Berlin's premier boulevard, cassette recorders slung over his shoulders as his music boomed out of battery-powered loudspeakers . . . Buoyed by the success of Tangerine Dream, Peter Baumann, Schnitzler's successor in the band, established the Paragon Studio. Schnitzler had left after their first LP in the belief that the creative potential of the group had reached its limit, but their friendship endured. Baumann made use of downtime in the studio to pursue his own musical experiments. And then Conrad Schnitzler appeared at the door with a small Korg synthesizer, a sequencer, and his EMS Synthi (a portable model in an attaché case), having transported the whole lot on his delivery bicycle . . . The last record to be completed at Paragon reveals Schnitzler's lighthearted rapprochement with German New Wave (Neue Deutsche Welle) . . . The Paragon Studio era, with sound engineer Will Roper, whose work with Schnitzler gave him the opportunity to demonstrate his skills in tape manipulation, splicing, editing, and looping, came to an end when the studio was sold and Peter Baumann moved to the USA."

RE.YOU Maison 12"
After more than a decade at the forefront of underground electronic music, Re.You puts all his vast experience into a long-awaited debut album on Connected, breathing new life into house music. Maison is a bold artistic statement across nine tracks featuring guests and label bosses Stereo MCs, plus Florian Busse & Ahmad, Elli, and Aaaron & Oluhle. German artist Re.You is Marius Maier, a producer who runs his own Younion label and continues to innovate with his edgy house and tech-fueled productions. As well as on releasing Connected, he has seen his music issued on Moon Harbour, Kompakt and Mobilee and manages to transcend fashions and scenes with his unique sound. After many years in Berlin, he moved to Paris, and found himself full of new ideas, inspired by the city and its creative energy. As such, most of this new album was written in the French capital. He was there for just six months but as Marius says "it was a truly inspiring place and time, so I thought I would give the album a French name. 'Maison' means home. That's what I feel now I'm back in my German hometown Ulm after ten years of Berlin and a short stay in Paris. I feel now is a good time to release my debut album on Connected, a platform on which I always felt at home."

VA Various Channels Vol. 1: NYC LP
Various Channels is a new series within the Darker Than Wax catalog -- a selector-led compilation series that pushes diversity in sound while also encapsulating a common connection of what brings people together. For the first volume, it's all about location. Deeply inspired by the new wave of creative energy in New York City, the label is proud to present Various Channels Vol. 1: NYC -- a compilation highlighting key artists at the forefront of NYC's blooming music ecosystem, curated by selector Marco Weibel. While Darker Than Wax was born in Singapore, the label's satellite (or second) home is NYC. A key figure behind Darker Than Wax since its early days, Marco moved to NYC in 2014, and has continued to establish a humble presence for the label through his tireless work as a DJ, curator, promoter, and radio host. Within six years, Marco has seen New York's underground grow through artists' continual efforts to push the envelope and blur the lines between sounds. Thanks in part to uncompromising venues and community spaces such as The Lot Radio in Brooklyn (where Marco is running our weekly radio show alongside label peer Mawkus), a fresh crop of producers and DJs are elevating the music of NYC. This compilation serves as a snapshot of this moment in time, spotlighting select artists making waves -- including Jitwam, James Tillman, Toribio, Ensemble Entendu, David Marston, Aquiles Navarro, and Tristan Arp. This project is also personal to Marco's experience of digging deep into the city and connecting with kindred spirits, the selections reflecting the creative energy of his close musical family, who traverse eclectic sound spectrums from R&B/soul, Balearic grooves, house, broken beat, and beyond. Edition of 300.

SANDERS, PHAROAH Oh Lord, Let Me Do No Wrong LP
Reissue. 2012 release; originally released in 1987. 180 gram vinyl. "Although Pharoah Sanders was originally considered a firebrand, thanks to his wild early free jazz work in the '60s, his later records are actually more in the tradition of players like his one-time leader John Coltrane and, especially, Rahsaan Roland Kirk. The title track from this 1987 session could have been on any of Kirk's Atlantic albums, a mixture of gospel sway and free jazz honk that builds into a hypnotic swoon under Leon Thomas' rich baritone vocals. (Thomas also appears on his own composition, the blues 'If It Wasn't for a Woman,' and the closing 'Next Time You See Me.') On the extended, relaxed take of Coltrane's 'Equinox,' Sanders doesn't try to copy his former boss' phrasing, but there's certainly a Coltrane-like elegance to Sanders' lyrical solo. In fact, Sanders' playing on the standard 'Polka Dots and Moonbeams,' which also features a lovely Vince Guaraldi-like piano solo by William S. Henderson III, is downright pretty. Oh Lord, Let Me Do No Wrong is a mellow and peaceful set by a player who no longer needs to make noise; whether old-school fans will appreciate this is debatable." --Stewart Mason, All Music

STL Take Off Music EP 12"
Echocord welcomes the return of STL with Take Off Music EP, comprised of three murky, dubbed-out cuts from the acclaimed German producer. Stephan Laubner, better known as STL has long been one of the most respected producers in the underground electronic music scene. Racking up releases on the likes of Smallville, Perlon, Echospace [Detroit], his own Something, and, of course, Echocord where he returns here. "Fluxxy" leads on the package, embracing STL's signature style via, dusty analog drums, choppy dub stabs, penetrating low end flutters, and airy atmospherics before "Dub Plus" lays focus on a stripped-back, perfectly balanced drum groove, hazy field recordings and bubbling chord delays and bell chime synths. "Magic Thing" then rounds out the release, fusing FM synth melodies and gritty bass stab sequences with thunderous subs and Laubner's robust rhythmic style. Once again, STL delivers a touch of class with a contemporary dub techno style for Echocord.

JOBIN, FRANCE Death Is Perfection, Everything Else Is Relative LP
France Jobin on the release: "The last two years have seen me maintaining an association with an unusual bedfellow, death. The loss of Mika Vainio, as well as three members of my own family, has had a profound effect on me and spurred a lengthy reflection on life, death, and everything in between. Parallelly, while studying the philosophy of science, I came across shadow photons:'Tangible photons are the ones we can see or detect with instruments whereas shadow photons are intangible (invisible) detectable only indirectly through the interference effects on the tangible photons. There is no intrinsic difference between tangible and shadow photons: each photon is tangible in one universe and intangible in all the other parallel universes. They travel at the speed of light, bounce off mirrors, are refracted by lenses, and are stopped by opaque barriers or filters of the wrong colour. Yet, they do not trigger even the most sensitive detectors. The only thing in the universe that a shadow photon can be observed to affect is the tangible photon that it accompanies. This is the phenomenon of interference. Shadow photons would go entirely unnoticed, were it not for this phenomenon and the strange pattern of shadows by which we observe it. Thus, the existence of a seething, prodigiously complicated hidden world of shadow photons has been inferred.' --The Fabric Of Reality, David Deutsch, Penguin Press 1997.I have drawn a parallel between shadow photons and death. The interference phenomena, parallel universes, and how shadow photons affect tangible photons they accompany, offer, in my opinion, similarities, an unknown universe which is death and how we, remaining tangible human beings, are affected. This quest has led me to be more willing to accept chaos in my life and to conclude that Death is perfection, everything else is relative."All sounds recorded at various locations in Europe, South America, and at EMS, Stockholm using the Buchla 200 modular synthesizer. All sounds recorded with Klara Lewis in Montreal 2018. Mastered by Russell Haswell, January 2020. Cut at Schnittstelle, Berlin by Andreas Kauffelt, January 2020.

CUCINA POVERA & ELS The Oystercatcher LP
The Oystercatcher is the first collaborative LP from Cucina Povera (Maria Rossi) and ELS (Edward Simpson). Recorded in London over two days during the summer of 2019, hours' worth of improvisations has been edited down to form these six tracks. A fragile interplay is at work between Maria's drifting vocals and the ominous churn of Edward's modular synth. Each sonic element takes a turn at leading the way. The opening track "Mantle" is formed from sparse, monolithic electronics, woven gently with a thread of vocals. In the closing track "Eon" Maria's voice shepherds spontaneous bursts of sounds, almost rave-like if order were imposed, through 15 minutes of turmoil and resplendent until the end. Maria's vocals make their own trails amongst the noise, bringing to mind the exploratory language from Ursula K. Le Guin's album Music and Poetry from the Kesh (1985), recalling the same understated mystery. The overall effect of this collaboration is a completely unique creation albeit within a recognizable lineage of predecessors. The artwork reflects the vision of these two artists, collaged together. Both images are from a trip to Helsinki. Edward's photograph of tulips caught after dark are reviled by a flash. Maria's seemingly abstract drawing is a graphite rubbing taken from a granite slab of a pavement somewhere in Kallio. Together the two images represent two different methods for capturing a city's haptic landscape. The album moves with a feeling of transience, which is no surprise given that the idea to collaborate was formed in Helsinki, realized in London and edited together in Rotterdam. The Oystercatcher tells a fragile tale, one that spins out into the unknown. A cold union of voice and machine, still tentative and probing, learning to co-exist. A kind of fundamental shift whereby shared moments have been turned to sound. The Oystercatcher is a bird that can freely travel between the earth, sea and sky. The motif is taken from a Tove Jansson short story. A dead bird washes ashore, two different versions of events are presented to how the bird came to die. The album feels like two different stories being presented on top of one another but ultimately coming to the same tragic conclusion. Cucina Povera is Maria Rossi - vocals; ELS is Edward Simpson - synthesizers. Mastered by Russell Haswell.

FUJITA & JAN JELINEK, MASAYOSHI Schaum LP
2020 repress. LP version. Faitiche presents the release of Schaum by Masayoshi Fujita & Jan Jelinek. Since their debut Bird, Lake, Objects (FAITICHE 003CD, 2010), they have played improvised concerts around the world. Japanese vibraphonist Masayoshi Fujita prepares his instrument with various percussion elements as well as metal objects and toys, while Jan Jelinek layers loops made using small-scale electronic devices. Schaum (German for froth or foam) is the duo's second album. Jelinek writing to Fujita about the album: "Dear Masayoshi Fujita, many thanks for the audio files. Your additional vibraphone recordings go wonderfully with the material we have already. Preparing the vibraphone with more percussion instruments was the right decision. Combined with my tightly woven synthesizer and sample loops, the result is a fragmented sense of space. I have taken the liberty of manipulating certain recordings. While listening through our improvisations, I noticed a tendency towards atmospheric sounds. I am almost tempted to call them tropical. This has strengthened my resolve to work with dense background textures - among others, I'm using material produced in connection with my radio pieces 'Kennen Sie Otahiti?' (2012) and 'Dialoge zur Anthropologie' (2013): artificial field recordings, jungle and rain forest settings that do not hide their staged, fictional character. As you know, I have long been obsessed with the tropics. This obsession involves a mental image of a specific quality of landscape: deliriously extravagant unstructuredness, hostile to life but also excessively productive. I am fascinated by the idea of installing clear minimalist forms amid such luxuriant tropical growth. Perhaps my image of the city of Brasilia is a good example. Corresponding to this, I would like to expand our liner notes to include a quotation from Robert Müller's novel Tropics, an expressionist travelogue published in Germany in 1915. It goes without saying that this work cannot be wholeheartedly embraced: its imperialistic fantasies of omnipotence and its 'master race' posturing, characteristic of that time and place, are, of course, intolerable. Tropics is fascinating as a nervous jungle phantasm that openly indulges in exoticism at the same time as deconstructing it. In this way, the main character's adventure becomes a journey into the subjective. It resembles a feverish inner delirium, exposing exoticism as a simulated, utopian perspective. What it boils down to is insubstantial, nothing but foam and froth. With best regards, Jan Jelinek" Comes in hard-cover book-style packaging.

AGING Sentenced To Love LP
Directly influenced by the film noir tradition and the hardboiled detective novels of yesteryear, Aging craft gloom heavy mood music that aspires to create a cinema without image. Sentenced To Love is the pinnacle of the band's work. Led by David McLean, Aging's fourth album is a direct continuation of the music he was commissioned to make during his 2017 Samarbeta Residency with The Crime Scene Ensemble, a 15-piece band of actors and jazz musicians formed to live soundtrack the short stories of pulp fiction writer and collage artist Phil Carney. Chronicling tales full of obsession, longing, double crosses, and murder, the same thematic and melodic gravitas is present in Sentenced To Love, largely due to a handpicked selection of musicians from Manchester's avant-garde and experimental music scenes being involved in both. Whereas previous records by the band have largely been improvised, the six brooding scenes that complete Sentenced To Love reveal a new compositional rigor and emotional weight, whilst still retaining pockets of nocturnal improvisation, each carefully crafted to create their own distinct and filmic sound world. From the low lit, dive bar blues of "Nights In Amber" to the gun out chase theme of "The Trapped Man", the nameless cowboy ghost story "A Shadow On My Name" and the redemptive odyssey of "Cursed With The Thirst", Aging's detailed mise-en-scene full of brass, double bass, simmering drums and reverb drenched guitars conjures the pantheon of noir cinema. This is no truer than on the album's title track, a vampiric torch song whose crescendo soars with Ali Bell's lamenting, tremulous vocals, which act as a midnight confession of a doomed romance. In an age where most musicians are attempting to free themselves from limitations, Aging's Sentenced To Love stands proudly as a genre record, one evoking the tradition of the jazz ballad, designed to swallow the listener into the dark cascade of its drama.

KOKUBO, TAKASHI Digital Soundology #1 Volk Von Bauhaus LP
Glossy Mistakes present the first official reissue of Takashi Kokubo's Digital Soundology #1 Volk Von Bauhaus, originally released in 1985. Ambient and environmental Japanese scene has flourished stronger than ever over the last few years. The pioneers of this sound and the creators of an innovative way of making and understanding ambient music, such as Hiroshi Yoshimura, Yoshio Ojima, Toshifumi Hinata, or Takashi Kokubo have been championed and their works have been successfully unearthed by reissue labels. Continuing in this endless path, Glossy Mistakes adds Takashi Kokubo's brilliant Volk Von Bauhaus to its catalog, with the Japanese masterpiece as the third official release of the Spanish label. As with most '80s Japanese ambient and environmental music, Volk Von Bauhaus is an audio impression designed to give a multi-sensory experience to the listener. An effort to make things audible, an exercise of understanding, and sound tracking objects or situations. The main objective of this sound is to create an iconic musical landscape to accompany a specific place. Though his name might be unfamiliar to many, Kokubo has crafted music that has impacted virtually all of Japan, from national mobile phone earthquake alerts to contactless card payment jingles. He was one of the first artists to create ambient music strictly through loops. As he mentioned when release this album, "this recording used no keyboard players, no multitrack tape recording techniques, no analog sounds." A shift on the process of imagining sound. Volk Von Haus is an ode to this ambient, new age, and environmental music created in Japan throughout the '80s. Throughout nine cuts, Kokubo handcrafts his own sound and immerses the listener in a peaceful yet challenging adventure. The record is the first piece of his Digital Soundology series, and arguably his most interesting work due to the groundbreaking techniques he used. "A revolutionary musical expression that shatters the old values," explains Kokubo about this piece. And it's just what you can hear when you play Volk Von Haus. Reissue includes an unheard exclusive track by Takashi Kokubo and an insert with an interview made by Takashi Kokubo. A true gem that must land in every ambient head's musical library. Remastered from master tapes by Frederic Stader.

GOLDEN DISKO SHIP Araceae CD
Theresa Stroetges has and always will be a traveler. Under the name Golden Diskó Ship or as a member of bands like Soft Grid or the improv collective Epiphany Now!, the Berlin-based multi-instrumentalist has continuously been moving through the fringes of experimental music, but also extensively explored the possibilities of tried and tested formulas -- whether folk, rock, techno, or pop. With her fourth solo album, her first for the Karaoke Kalk label, the Golden Diskó Ship is yet again venturing into unknown territory. Araceae is inspired by environmental changes and the eerie feelings that arise when faced with natural beauty -- when everything seems perfect on the surface but something feels off underneath it all. As a whole, it is notably more focused on electronic grooves that provide the foundation for Stroetges's poetic long-form storytelling. Partially conceived during a residency in India, Araceae is the first Golden Diskó Ship record to feature two guest musicians. For "Wildly Floral, Slightly Damp", Stroetges collaborated with percussionist Dripta Samajder who with his Sri Khol contributes complex rhythms to a driving beat that wouldn't be out of place in the record bags of daring DJs. Sophia Trollmann takes over saxophone duties for "Ortolan", a riveting coming-together of intricate, IDM-flavored techno and jazz-inspired improvisation. Both are integral standout tracks on an album that clearly follows a holistic plan. Already the opener "Clouds of Neon Limelight" dips into anthemic synth pop territory, but unfolds into a great saga full of ominous undertones and Stroetges's trademark: layered vocals that at once evoke feelings of uncanniness and intimacy. It's a juxtaposition that runs throughout Araceae, thus enforcing the album's overall themes of sensual experience and alienation. "Game of Biryani" for example lends some of its musical structures from pop music, calling into question traditional songwriting conventions which here reappear as irritating echo effects rather than recycled old tropes. With the lush "Limping Over The Prairies" and the adventurous "Glow-in-the-Dark Gloves", Stroetges further challenges her audience by applying noise and a heavy dose of autotune respectively to disorientating effect. The couple makes for an impressive finale of an album that scrutinizes our ideas of what is natural -- whether in music or the world around us. Araceae was inspired by the travels of its creator, but also sets out to ascertain what lies beyond everything that eyes or ears can perceive.

2020 repress. Welcome to the DJ Style, the sound of Jamaica! To celebrate Jamaica's 50 years of independence (1962-2012) we have put together a set of releases that cover the musical styles that reggae mutated into throughout it's history: ska, rocksteady, roots reggae, dub, DJ style, and dancehall from legends like U Roy, I Roy, Prince Jazzbo, and Prince Far I. The DJ phenomenon started way back in the ska era in the late 1950's with the likes of Count Machuki and Sir Lord Comic, who could be found shouting introductions to the big tunes of the day. These would grow into almost question and answer sessions over the original vocals. This deejay jive talk, so popular in the dancehalls and sound system gatherings, transferred to vinyl and became another chapter in the evolving sound of reggae. So sit back and listen keenly to some musical biscuits, to the kings of the DJ sound. So Listen Up! and enjoy!

AVNI, YOTAM Was Here 2LP
Double LP version. It's taken Yotam Avni a little while to get to his debut album; almost a decade, really, since his debut 12", That's What The World Needs (2012), on California's Seasons Limited imprint. During that time, the Tel-Aviv based producer has refined his productions, tightening the groove and paring everything back to bare essentials; the power in an Avni cut is its combination of piston-pulse propulsion and a deep, but gently applied, musicality. Avni's been on Kompakt's radar for a while, first appearing on the label last year, with his Speicher contribution (KOM EX109EP). The connection immediately made sense -- dance music that managed to feel both lush and streamlined across the same great gasp of late-night energy. But with Yotam Avni Was Here, he's taken a huge leap. After a brief intro, Avni sets his stall with "Beyond The Dance", which features slow-moving vocal melisma over sculptural, melting tonalities, a tintinnabulating, harpsichord-like two-note phrase pacing out the track. Then "It Was What It Was" comes into view, its strip-light textures suddenly placed into sharp relief by a muted trumpet figure that hangs in the air, melancholy and pensive. Avni's inspirations for Was Here are from the histories of both techno and jazz. "I wanted to try something more around Detroit Techno meets ECM," he reflects. "Carl Craig's Just Another Day EP (2004) and Kenny Larkin's Keys, Strings, Tambourines (2008) came out during my high school years and had huge impact on me." Avni continues, "I always wanted to go back to those hi-tek soul roots on a full album," he continues, and he explores that terrain with the sky-strafing brass on "Free Darius Now", Morse-code keys on "Vortex," and glitchy, microhouse tickles of "Know Hope" all contributing to an oblique narrative that seems to arc across Was Here -- one fleshed out by guest musicians, who include dOP and Georg Levin on vocals, and trumpets by Greg Paulus (Beirut, No Regular Play). The cover art makes the jazz connection explicit, riffing on the text-based, minimal design of The Modern Jazz Quartet's 1955 album for Prestige, Concorde. The way Avni has gathered around him both inspiring musicians and intriguing reference points makes you think of his broader career as well. The openness of his productions, which seem to be all about the multiple, the possibilities of cross-pollination, of fusing this with that, of adding and subtracting, all under the pulsating thumbprint of techno.

CARNEY, JEFF Imperfect Space Journeys 2LP
"Finally available on vinyl, this underground masterwork of analog electronic music pushed the envelope of melodic synth freakouts to unimaginable edges and undreamt of realms of space. Recorded live on the spot without overdubs, Jeff Carney's Imperfect Space Journeys (ISJ) has become a highly prized collectible amongst 'Berlin School' fanatics still soaking in the '70s sounds of Klaus Schulze, Ashra and Tangerine Dream, as well as fans of Terry Riley's organ works (Riley is Carney's cousin), and Heldon heads. Originally a cassette-only release, the rare copy appearing on the collector market can exchange hands at three-figure sums even on cassette, making it one of the most sought-after treasures of the electronic underground. With a keyboard arsenal more likely to have been assembled in the late seventies, West Coast space music architect Jeff Carney rebelled against prevailing digital trends with analog electronic wizardry, unleashing this statement of purpose on the New York 'Audiofile' label in 1988. Designed around the possibilities of live performance, Carney used simple, captivating hooks with which to weave tapestries of electronic texture. His influences on this debut are apparent, but his sounds absolutely unique. Every lead seems to have a tone outside the sounds already explored in the genre. Sound effects give a sense of deep space: perhaps owing their galactic awareness to Gong and Hawkwind, but pushing like a volcano into other realms. Imperfect Space Journeys is a study in minimalist rhythmic structures that enable Carney to decorate with cosmic colors and wild effects collages, while also tending to be highly melodic. 'Noise' is used as a means to create images of spaceships passing in the deepest of space skies. Tension and release are used for maximum impact. But there is also plenty of sonic ear candy. Melodic lines that you'll find yourself wanting to revisit again and again! Source for this reissue: 24bit/96kHz transfers taken from the original analog tapes. This deluxe reissue of ISJ includes three bonus tracks not included on the original cassette release. Comes with an eight-page color LP-sized insert booklet. Limited to 500x copies worldwide. Carney recorded Imperfect Space Journeys at 20 years old. He would soon produce works in which his skills were further honed and his unique sonic paintings took an even more exploratory shape, but ISJ is the beginning of the story. NOUN (DANIEL AVERY & ROMAN FLUGEL) Meeting Of The Minds 12"
"The first collaborative release between Roman Flügel and Daniel Avery arrives on Live at Robert Johnson, under the guise of Noun. Initially recorded some years ago across just two days at Flügel's former Frankfurt studio, both tracks represent a meeting point between the sensibilities of two of the best-loved producers in contemporary electronic music. Patient, even minimal psychedelia shares space with the driving club music that defines both Avery and Flügel's individual DJ sets, as well as a number of occasional back-to-back performances, where the music of Noun has since been reliably reached-for and re-contextualized ever since. Indeed, it speaks for the confidence and craft in this debut collaboration that Noun begins with 'Meeting Of The Minds', a textural delight that finds the Anglo-Germanic pair at their unremittingly trippiest. An analog, unwavering transmission, as if pirated from Avery's celebrated frequencies, is wrapped around minimal drum percussion, guaranteed to equally appeal to fans of the more experimental, reduced moments in Flügel's back catalog. Tense as the mood may seem, in these offbeat sonic corners, lay pockets of intrigue and moments of bliss. On 'Team Silent', the impact is more immediate. As the seams between individual influences melt away, Flügel and Avery roll out something tougher and more direct; a blossoming, somewhat dystopian drive-by-night of softly soaring synths, ecstatic feedback, and tough drums. Somehow both understated and anthemic, this is a true late-night jam courtesy of two masters of club culture. Years later, and what a difference two days makes." --John Thorp

SHAN Nordring EP 12"
Much like its associated club, Live At Robert Johnson not only features seasoned veterans, but likewise emerging talents and those already paving their way with quality productions. Victor Shan's production style tells much about his ongoing collaborations with one of bespoke veterans, Gerd Janson, providing countless remixes and edits as a tag team on labels such as Running Back and Permanent Vacation. Taking their inspirations from a sonic array of UK synth pop, Balearic beats, and Italo disco, Victor Shan's LARJ debut four-track EP reveres nights spent at the Robert Johnson club: from the dancefloor to the studio. Lush detuned synths, deep basslines sometimes lingering down below, and upfront beats -- they all catch the vibe of a wooden dancefloor to be found at Nordring 131 in Offenbach.

GABBER ELEGANZA & HDMIRROR The Real Life 12"
Gabber Eleganza & HDMIRROR presents The Real Life, a four-track 12" EP of monstrous proportions published by Berlin's Live From Earth Klub Label. The Real Life is a somewhat inevitable collaboration that hybridizes an ultra-wide array of sounds across the rave spectrum. Both their practices cast a light on cultural source material by detaching it from its roots in order to make something new. The result is a meta commentary about the nature of euphoria, memory, madness, distorted kick drums and what makes a "dancefloor killer". "The Real Life" navigates through four stages of the mental meanderings of a symbolic raver, where the navigation itself becomes the subject matter. With samples saying things like "I can't remember my memories" and "I've seen it in your soul" one gets the feeling that things have become slightly unhinged along the way. Side A opens with the progressive minimal-maximal stomper "Seen It" that flows forward with free reign. Next is "Move Your Car", an absolute full power ear rush containing an epic kickdrum switch that casts the listener beyond the point of no return. All while a sample of Mark Leckey's "Dream English Kid" asks the crowd to listen for the license plate number of a car that is parked in the wrong place: "Move your car, or it's gonna get towed away!" Memories are here viewed through the twisted lens of the present. On Side B things take a dramatic turn with "Frozen Dopamina" as euphoric melodies detach themselves from percussion elements and float upwards towards the sky. The mind is left in limbo somewhere between climax and anticlimax. The plot has been lost. The EP closes with the icy post techno banger "Can't Remember" that reestablishes the progressive flow of the opening track but with everything severely altered. It serves as a signpost pointing in various directions at once. This is The Real Life.

MINYO CRUSADERS Echoes of Japan 2LP
2020 repress; double LP version. Glossy gatefold sleeve; Includes insert with Japanese lyrics and English translations. Minyo Crusaders rework historic Japanese folk songs (min'y?) with Latin, African, Caribbean, and Asian rhythms for their debut album Echoes of Japan. Releases from Ryuichi Sakamoto, Haruomi Hosono, and Midori Takada have re-ignited global interest in Japanese music and Echoes of Japan marks the arrival of a big band like no other. "For Japanese people, min'y? is both the closest, and most distant, folk music," explains band-leader Katsumi Tanaka: "We may not feel it in our daily, urban lives, yet the melodies, the style of singing and the rhythm of the taiko drums are engrained in our DNA." Initially indifferent to min'y?, a tragic event in recent Japanese history set Tanaka on his current path: "Following the Tohoku earthquake of 2011, I reflected on my life, work and identity. A fan of world music, I began searching for Japanese roots music I could identify with. Discovering mid-late 20th century acts Hibari Misora, Chiemi Eri and the Tokyo Cuban Boys, I was captivated by their eccentric arrangements and how they mixed min'y? with Latin and jazz." Originally sung by fishermen ("Kushimoto Bushi"; "Mamurogawa Ondo"), coal miners ("Tanko Bushi") and sumo wrestlers ("Sumo Jinku"), these songs deal with topics such as the returning spirits of ancestors ("Hohai Bushi"), Japan's smallest bird ("Toichin Bushi"), and a bride's love for her husband's pockmarked face ("Otemoyan"). Minyo Crusaders are one of the most hyped acts on the Tokyo music scene that went national in 2018 through festivals such as Fuji Rock. The band features veterans of the Tokyo roots music scene such as bassist DADDY U (Ska Flames), keyboardist Moe (Kidlat), sax player Koichiro Osawa (Matt Sounds, J.J. Session), Yamauchi Stephan (J.J. Session), percussionist Mutsumi Kobayashi (Banda de la Mumbia), conga player Irochi (Cubatumb), and vocalist Meg (DJ collective Tokyo Sabroso). SHARI VARI Now Remixes 12"
After releasing their critically acclaimed debut LP NOW (MALKA 007LP) in September of 2019, the people at Malka Tuti felt it was the time to continue pushing the name Shari Vari to new realms and territories... A remix pack was born. For the remix pack, Malka Tuti chose a few close friends of the family to give new life and new interpretations to the now "instant classic" songs by the Hamburg duo... The EP begins with Fantastic Twins's mid-tempo, Coil-inspired, break-beat groove, slowly building up in emotion with warm pads and '90s vibe acid lines towards an epic catharsis. Benedikt Frey takes it from there, remixing a personal favorite -- New York City, turning it into a dark trip-hop inspired journey, cleaning those distinct vocals, echoing Beth Gibbons's smokey high tones... On the B-side, you find Black Merlin's 11-minute trippy mid-tempo dancefloor banger. Cuts and slices from the original vocals of the song "Dance Alone", laid carefully on top of a repetitive modular bass line, and sprinkled on top -- those out-worldly sounds and FX that makes the track simply huge. Last but not least, Du?sseldorf's very own Lucas Croon's Dub Version, released digitally in 2019, finally sees its day on wax. '90s break beat beats, gated vocals and everything else that takes to make a dancefloor hit the roof.

VA Minna Miteru 2LP
Repressed; double LP version. Gatefold sleeve with printed inner sleeves and 32-page booklet; Includes download code; edition of 500. In collaboration with Markus Acher's Alien Transistor label, Morr Music presents a collection of hard-to-find Japanese independent music, compiled by Saya, who plays with Ueno Takashi in the iconic duo Tenniscoats. They are part of a current music scene, which is little known outside of Japan. Minna Miteru focuses on that very scene: the featured bands and musicians share a certain idea of DIY, and are also connected through frequent collaborations and mutual appreciation. The following notes were written by Markus Acher, who also plays with Saya & Ueno in the band Spirit Fest: "In 2018 I was sitting in the Tenniscoats' kitchen with beer and music, looking at Ueno's wonderful risograph songbook 'Minna Miteru' (Everybody Watch) which collects the lyrics and chords of their friends' songs alongside his own illustrations, when Saya suggested putting together a compilation of these and other songs for our label. I couldn't have been happier, this sounded like a dream to me . . . here is Minna Miteru, a compilation of recent Japanese indie-music. And I'm very happy about it, because although there have been many great reissues of '70s and '80s Japanese music recently, most contemporary Japanese independent bands and artists are hardly known outside of Japan and so it's hard to find their music. And I couldn't think of a better guide to this special scene than Saya, whose love, dedication, and personal selections have made this such a unique and beautiful compilation. You'll hear some of the Tenniscoats' closest friends and collaborators (Eddie Marcon, Yumbo, Yuko Ikema), but also artists they are fans of, like the legendary Jun Konagaya (aka Grim) and many befriended bands that form a scene of uncategorizable outsiders in pop, like the one-man-orchestra Ichi, the trumpet-trumpet-organ-trio Popo, the mysterious psychedelic songwriter Aritomo, and the pianist/electronic musician, Ytamo. So many beautiful surprises: melodicas, electronics, folk-songs, brass bands, sound-experiments and melodies, melodies, melodies... Every song a treasure, exploding with ideas, and me personally, I could listen to the Tenniscoats and Yumbo collaboration and Zayaendo's 'Hiyodori' forever on repeat." Also features Takashi Hattori, namaeganai, Takako Minekawa ? Dustin Wong, Alpha, Vagamoron, Kasumi Trio, Go Hirano, Satoko Shibata, Tomoaki Saito + Tenco Matsuri, Cacoy, Andersens, Jiro Imai, Urichipangoon, Jun Konagaya, Nikasoup & Sayasource, Borzoi, and 2B.

This third of the Motordisc opens with a slow and delighted beat by The Juan MacLean, which turns into an electro mesmerizing track. Is it slow trance or is it some kind of house -- Are we early in the night or late in the after party? -- Are we still dreaming? "Mark 211" by Javi Redondo takes the energy level up with some acidy synth and punchy snares, proving that the power of a track does not necessarily lies in its speed. It is now time to flip the disc, Naduve takes you later in the night, bringing a murky vibe, thanks to haunting pads and low frequency instruments, picturing a proper underground club. The sun now starts to rise on the Seine river, the last track sounds like an ode to the dawn, where voices and shiny synths will emerge and open the crowd's eyes. It was "Peppi" by Fairmont. LUCIANO Luci Neu House 2LP
Chilean/Swiss producer and DJ Luciano is a prominent figure in the global electronic club music circle. From a young age, he was exposed to music profoundly, as his father worked as a jukebox repairman and possessed a large record collection. When he was twelve, his mother gifted him a guitar, and shortly became a member of a school punk rock band. Soon after, his passion for electronic music rose. Inspired by Detroit techno and engaged by close friends like producer Dandy Jack, he started to play records in local Santiago De Chile dance clubs and became involved in the minimal techno scene around friends like Ricardo Villalobos. When Luciano moved back from Chile to Switzerland in 2000, he established a residency at Weetamix Club in Geneva, and started releasing his own productions on labels like Mental Groove and joining the Cocoon team in Ibiza to play at the famous Monday night at Club Amnesia. Since then, he's become a regular on the Balearic island with various residencies. Besides playing around the globe with the likes of Carl Craig, Richie Hawtin, or Loco Dice, he has released groundbreaking minimal techno and house on his Cadenza label since 2003. His very own music was always ambiguous. There is his club leaning creativity that can dance slightly into pop spheres while never forgetting the power of precisely sliced rhythms and subtle bass sensations. And then there is his calmer sider which displays his love for "music to listen at home, done for a spiritual travel, an inner universe and a moment paralyzed in ether," as he describes it. On his first ever Mule Musiq album release, Luci Neu House, Luciano now delivers meditative music journey full of repetitive patterns that slowly playing tricks on the listeners subconsciousness. Luci Neu House is a one-hour long composition whose esoteric deepness is reminiscent of the intensely meditative class of Luciano's older productions. An epic tune cut on vinyl into four 15-minute long pieces, the piece shifts slowly almost unperceived, whilst absorbing the mind of close observers into a micro-sliced world of moving gentleness. All new music composed by Luciano distributes a mesmerizing healing spirit, that grounds organically, even if it is totally rooted in the digital, software-driven world of composing music.

VALLIE, SUZANNE Love Lives Where Rules Die LP
After a hard spell, heartbroken and drifting, Suzanne Vallie aimed to make a driving record rich with sympathy, high romance, and dedicated to the magic of good-timing. Other themes on the album include dogs, surfers, and the supernatural. Vallie, a sorta-recluse living in rural Big Sur, California, is known for her improvisational performances where she freestyles lyrics and tells stories, both mythical and rowdy. She wrote the bulk of Love Lives Where Rules Die during the bummer summer after a breakup. It was a time when she drove up and down Highway 1 trying to blow out the speakers of her '94 Honda. The 11 songs of Love Lives Where Rules Die were largely live-tracked over five days. Suzanne Vallie and a core band of California collaborators flew out to upstate New York during the last warm days of September 2019. Vallie and her producer, Rob Shelton, chose Dreamland Recording in Hurley, New York, for many reasons. The analog signal flow sounded embracing. The studio, a hundred-some-year-old church, had room for the whole crew to live-track. Some said a ghost might come around. What's more, much of the band was already on tour out East, playing a run of shows with both Luke Temple and Meerna, double duty every night. They were plenty warmed-up. Opening with "Ocean Cliff Drive", Vallie sings of driving on the winding cliff side of Highway 1, blinded by fog and rain. The title track, "Love Lives Where Rules Die", begins with baritone guitar calling in a story of a broken heart among good company. With no way out in a three-day storm, Vallie asks friends to sing her love songs. The party anthems, "Morro Bay" and "High With You", celebrate friendship and the delicious urge for fun with Springsteen length lyric sheets. The album features production and keys by Rob Shelton (Meernaa, Sis, Luke Temple, Kacey Johansing), guitar by Blake Kennedy (The Range of Light Wilderness), guitar and vocals by Carly Bond (Meerna, Sis), guitar and bass by Doug Stuart (Meerna, Brijean), percussion and drums by Andrew Maguire (Mirah, Vetiver, Meerna) with contributions from violin virtuoso, Edwin Huizinga (Acronym, Dark Watchers), percussion by Mark Clifford and Bob Ladue, and backing vocals by Paul Spring, Emily Ritz (Yesway, Honeycomb), and Molly Sarle (Mountain Man). For fans of: Sharon Van Etten, Jesse Sykes & the Sweet Hereafter, Karen O's Where The Wild Things Are soundtrack.

MUHARAM, SITI Siti Of Unguja LP
LP version. Includes printed inner sleeve. Siti Of Unguja tells the story of pioneering women, of the "golden voice" of Siti Muharam, heiress to the singular legacy of her great grandmother, the mother of taarab, Siti Binti Saad. On The Corner Records teases this first taste of a landmark recording that the label embarked upon two years ago on Zanzibar. Siti Of Unguja has a transformative atmosphere, brimming with romance, passion and protest. Zanzibar is an island archipelago that lies six degrees south of the equator and 30 miles off the East African coast out in the Indian Ocean. It is known for its spices, traditional Dhow sailing boats, and being a mercantile trading capital of Swahili culture. The modern history of Zanzibar can be animated through the life and legacy of one artist, Siti Binti Saad. Born in 1890 in the small fishing village of Fumba, on Unguja (Zanzibar's largest island), she became the first Zanzibari recording artist and her recordings sold in tens of thousands across the Swahili world. The tracks recorded for Siti Of Unguja demonstrate Siti Binti Saad's eclectic influence on Zanzibari taarab and her great granddaughter, Siti Muharam imbues the compositions with feeling. Siti Muharam's golden voice carries the poetry and invents a timeless passion. It is Muharam's deep humility and love that brings the spirit of these two women together. With Sam Jones at the controls, taarab's conservative layers were opened up and given more than a little wiggle room. Under the direction of Matona, the recording of this album paid homage to Siti Binti Saad's innovations by bringing back the percussive Kidumbak style of music that originated on the streets of Zanzibar. By stripping back the typically dense string section of taarab a space was created for Muharam's beguiling timbre that is gilded with emotion. Liner notes by Pete OnTheCorner.

DNGDNGDNG Continentes Perdidos 12"
DNGDNGDNG is Dengue Dengue Dengue's new alias for this release of extra sensory perception. The duo has projected rhythmic visions of lost continents, unknown worlds and the unsee-able past and future that is present all around us. By channeling rhythmic patterns from the matrix they're able to translate the waves of radiation around us which originated at the cosmic event which created the universe. DNGDNGDNG reach deep into their sonic imagination to draw from interlocking time signatures and variant tempos. From the cosmic interference and mathematics DNGDNGDNG create a polyrhythmic theme that brings the sound of continents lost and imagined to our ears. Heavily influenced by the sounds of UK bass sub-cultures Dengue Dengue Dengue are drawing on their decade of entrancing audiences around the world to connect to dances of the mythical past and lands of the dance beyond their alter ego Afro Peruvian invocations via ancient future rhythms. With the futurist alias of DNGDNGDNG the duo is able to break expectations and swing into imagined realities on a 6/8 rhythm. Behind the masks are Felipe Salmon and Rafael Pereira, two producers, DJs and graphic designers from Lima, Perú. Their work explores the rhythms from Peru and other parts of the world, recreating them electronically by mixing new and old, analog and digital, to create a unique sound and visuals. Their musical explorations go from psychedelic cumbia to dub, from salsa to footwork, from tribal to techno. Their visual and sound palette continues to grow and add new flavors to this melting pot.

AGAINST ALL LOGIC 2017-2019 3LP
Against All Logic's 2017-2019 on Other People featuring Lydia Lunch. Side F is a vinyl-only edit."Under his Against All Logic alias, Nicolas Jaar writes music that sounds like it's trying to break out of itself. Textures undulate and basses overwhelm, while vocals flutter in and out of focus as if someone were flicking through channels on a decrepit television. The project's first LP, quietly released on his Other People label at the beginning of 2018, folded half a decade's work into one of the most accessible albums of his career. Now that A.A.L. is a known quantity, Jaar returns with 2017-2019, trading the warmer house music of his debut for a warped techno counterpart . . . 2017-2019 has been rendered more purposefully than its predecessor, each track flowing into the next. It presents an identity for Against All Logic that transcends the previous mid-tempo crowd-pleasers, one that's unafraid to draw from various club subgenres while injecting Jaar's customary washed-out tape atmospheres. The harsh spirals of noise and pneumatic hi-hats of 'Deeeeeeefers' sound like they're pulled from a revised Justice cut or Thomas Bangalter edit, while 'Penny' makes the case that 'lo-fi house' might not be dead after all. The most exhilarating moment on the album appears courtesy of its sole feature, Lydia Lunch, whose voice and philosophy Jaar borrows for 'If You Can't Do It Good, Do It Hard.' A longtime advocate of her work?he reissued her 1990 spoken-word piece Conspiracy of Women (C.O.W.) after layering clips from the recording into his live show for years-- Jaar recontextualizes the no-wave icon's uncompromising ferocity using brash distortion loops that make Yeezus sound tame by comparison." Noah Yoo at Pitchfork (7.9/10)"Techno influences echo through later on in the project, but to a different extent. The track 'Penny' mixes the tuneful sounds of lo-fi house with a heavy thumping beat that appears halfway through. The closer 'You (Forever)' brings a serene, meditative ending, the album's only real moment of calm, which seems to hark back to 2011's debut Space Is Only Noise (CCS 055-2LP). Jaar shows signs of evolving here, and it's more than welcome. For a record that feels chaotic at times, everything falls into place." -- Joe Hale at Clash Music (8/10)

TEJADA, JOHN Moving 909's 12"
Palette 71 kicks off with legendary Warp artist Plaid on remix duties. Transforming the title track, re-synthesized 909 samples and lua scripted sequencing, Plaid builds melodies and arrangement to epic proportions in classic Plaid fashion. Tejada's new EP is an homage of sorts to the sample heavy production style of the late '90s. "Limiting the options and just creating and manipulating a batch of samples is my happy place," says John Tejada. The title track hints back to Optical's "Moving 808s." While the sound is quite different, the approach is similar: samples, editing, some filters and not a whole lot more opens up a lot of creative possibilities without too much getting in the way. Of course, the bass plays an important role. Combing through some older influences of varying styles, the production became more in line with Tejada classics like "Timebomb" and "Western Starland," both sample collage pieces focused on groove. The final track, "Infinity Room" also follows this production process while resulting in a slightly moodier sound.

MAMEEN 3 Collapse EP 7"
Mameen 3 are soFa and Cheb Runner from Brussels. Both versatile players in the rather niche scene of oriental electronic music in the European capital, they only ran into each other at the Nyege Nyege Festival in Uganda in 2018. They clicked and after a first jam session they immediately launched Mameen 3. Cheb Runner is the young Moroccan producer previously known as Gan Gah, now focusing on giving a modern outfit to various MENA music traditions. soFa is a true digger between all crates (his Pingipung podcast is a gem), as well as the curator behind the highly recommended Elsewhere vinyl compilations, released on labels such as Emotional Response or Music For Dreams. Following the Mameen 3 debut singles on Bongo Joe with excellent spaced out reggae- disco hybrids, Pingipung unearths the Collapse EP featuring two collabs with legendary musicians. "Impostrazione" is a collaboration with Claudia Radulescu and Walter Hus. Radulescu is a Romanian visual artist who has written the lyrics for the song, boldly interpreted by the legendary Walter Hus on the occasion of her exhibition "Hit" in Kanal -- Centre Pompidou Brussels in 2019. Hus gained international reputation as a pianist in the 1980s and works as an avantgarde composer today, among many projects he created an opera for the graphic novel Lint by Chris Ware. Walter Hus performs an effusive vocal style accompanied by his modified Decap organ which became his trademark sound in the past decade. This jam delivered the material which Mameen 3 subsequently transformed into a hypnotic oriental slow-mo banger. "Wireless C" features another music veteran, Rodion GA, who describes himself as "Romania's first one man band." He produced a remarkable electro-prog output in the 1970s and '80s. "Rodion GA sounds like he learned about music from hearing someone describe it in their second language, drunk. It sounds like nothing else: wrong in all the right ways," says The Guardian about his music. His collab with Mameen 3 turns out as a Balearic, space reggae trip, with dreamy vocals by Rodion and solid bass.

KAMILHAN; il y a péril en la demeure is the conclusion of a five-part cycle of works by artist Grischa Lichtenberger which was initiated with the album LA DEMEURE; il y a péril en la demeure in 2015 (R-N 169CD) and continued with the triple EP release Spielraum, Allgegenwart, Strahlung in 2016 (R-N 168-2EP). In addition to the concept of "demeure", one's residence as a symbol for the joy and artistic possibilities one can find in isolation, Lichtenberger places a further emphasis on the expression of the voice, represented by the word "Kamilhan". "Kamilhan" is a non-existent word, an expression that Ernst Bloch once mentioned in an anecdote about his childhood. Fascinated by its sound but without knowing its meaning, it remained vivid in his memory in its purely "material" form. Lichtenberger also refers to this childish perception of language. Words that we do not know, but repeat in our thoughts until they become insignificant. Lyrics in a foreign language that we do not understand and still sing along and imitate. With computer-generated voices, Lichtenberger tries to reproduce these experiences. In his tracks you hear syllables and phrases that are similar to words and that seem familiar to us, but whose meaning remains a secret. As on the previous album, the tracks on KAMILHAN are constantly torn apart and reassembled. Borrowings from hip-hop and even pop are unmistakable, desired, and yet delusive. Rhythms that are repeatedly broken in order to re-organize themselves into new temporal patterns. Melodies that are pierced by precisely these intricate rhythms. Voices that lack any empathy due to their artificiality. Lichtenberger himself describes these tracks as "crooked ballads", which, by deliberately following classic pop song structures, try to sell us the absurd as the normal, and in turn smuggle some hope of recognition into the absurd.

REBAR Lost In Hanoi 12"
The third Rebar release sees the duo Lost In Hanoi, taking on the Vietnamese capital and channeling its buzz and exoticism through field recordings and insightful soundscapes. "Noi Bai", named after the capital's main airport sets about with dreamy pads atop a relentless bassline. Once the vocal kicks in, a recording of a real announcement in the actual airport, the track comes together as you can already see yourself in this state of arrival. With a name reminiscing of Hanoi's market Dong Xuan, the track centers around a loop recorded from a local street musician. Bustling and busy, the track reinterprets this feeling in a composition that's both hypnotic and functional. Rounding up the release, "Train Street" is a quick-footed stomper, adorned with dubby stabs and powerful bass weight. Inspired by the main train road that runs through the city, it's a straightforward techno tool that can get the dancefloor moving.

DR. JOHN Gris-Gris LP
Reissue. 2013 release; originally released in 1968. Stereo. "Dr. John's Gris-Gris is among the most enduring recordings of the psychedelic era; it sounds as mysterious and spooky in the 21st century as it did in 1968. It is the album where Mac Rebennack established a stage identity that has served him well. A respected studio ace in his native New Orleans, Rebennack was scuffling in L.A. Gris-Gris was his concept, an album that wove various threads of New Orleans music together behind the character of 'Dr. John,' a real voodoo root doctor from the 19th century. Harold Batiste, another ex-pat New Orleanian and respected arranger in Hollywood, scored him some free studio time left over from a Sonny & Cher session. They assembled a crack band of NOLA exiles and session players including saxophonist Plas Johnson, singers Jessie Hill and Shirley Goodman, and guitarist/mandolinist Richard 'Didimus' Washington. Almost everyone played percussion. Gris-Gris sounds like a post-midnight ceremony recorded in the bayou swamp instead of L.A.'s Gold Star Studio where Phil Spector cut hits. The atmosphere is thick, smoky, serpentine, foreboding. Rebennack inhabits his character fully, delivering Creole French and slang English effortlessly in the grain of his half-spoken, half-sung voice. He is high priest and trickster, capable of blessing, cursing, and conning. On the opening incantation 'Gris-Gris Gumbo Ya Ya,' Dr. John introduces himself as the 'night tripper' and boasts of his medicinal abilities accompanied by wafting reverbed mandolins, hand drums, a bubbling bassline, blues harmonica, skeletal electric guitar, and a swaying backing chorus that blurs the line between gospel and soul. On 'Danse Kalinda Boom,' a calliope-sounding organ, Middle Eastern flute, Spanish-tinged guitars, bells, claves, congas, and drums fuel a wordless chorus in four-part chant harmony as a drum orgy evokes ceremonial rites. The sound of NOLA R&B comes to the fore in the killer soul groove of the breezy 'Mama Roux.' 'Croker Courtboullion' is an exercise in vanguard jazz. Spectral voices, electric guitars, animal cries, flute, and moody saxophone solos and percussion drift in and out of the spacy mix. The set's masterpiece is saved for last, the nearly eight-minute trance vamp in 'I Walk on Gilded Splinters' (covered by everyone from Humble Pie, Cher, and Johnny Jenkins to Paul Weller and Papa Mali). Dr. John is brazen about the power of his spells in a slippery, evil-sounding boast. Congas, tom-toms, snaky guitar, and harmonica underscore his juju, while a backing chorus affirms his power like mambo priestesses in unison. A ghostly baritone saxophone wafts through the turnarounds. Droning blues, steamy funk, and loopy R&B are inseparably entwined in its groove. Remarkably, though rightfully considered a psychedelic masterpiece, there is little rock music on Gris-Gris. Its real achievement -- besides being a classic collection of startlingly deep tunes -- is that it brought New Orleans' cultural iconographies and musical traits to the attention of an emergent rock audience." --Thom Jurek, All Music

RAMONES, THE The Ramones LP
2016 reissue. Originally released in 1976. Remastered. "With the three-chord assault of 'Blitzkrieg Bop,' The Ramones begins at a blinding speed and never once over the course of its 14 songs does it let up. The Ramones is all about speed, hooks, stupidity, and simplicity. The songs are imaginative reductions of early rock & roll, girl group pop, and surf rock. Not only is the music boiled down to its essentials, but the Ramones offer a twisted, comical take on pop culture with their lyrics, whether it's the horror schlock of 'I Don't Wanna Go Down to the Basement,' the gleeful violence of 'Beat on the Brat,' or the maniacal stupidity of 'Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue.' And the cover of Chris Montez's 'Let's Dance' isn't a throwaway -- with its single-minded beat and lyrics, it encapsulates everything the group loves about pre-Beatles rock & roll. They don't alter the structure, or the intent, of the song, they simply make it louder and faster. And that's the key to all of the Ramones' music -- it's simple rock & roll, played simply, loud, and very, very fast. None of the songs clock in at any longer than two and half minutes, and most are considerably shorter. In comparison to some of the music the album inspired, The Ramones sounds a little tame -- it's a little too clean, and compared to their insanely fast live albums, it even sounds a little slow -- but there's no denying that it still sounds brilliantly fresh and intoxicatingly fun." --Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music

AQUARIUS Soulquencies 2LP
Limited available stock. Soulquencies is a perfect harmony of deconstructed soundsystem music, beautifully rebuilt with ambient textures, hints of grime, steppers while always melodious, musical, and underpinned with bass weight. It perfectly transcends from clean and heavenly harmonies to bass weight and grit, icy to warm in a masterful way. Soulquencies is the latest project from Chikuma Tsuboi. A classically-trained musician hailing from Tokyo, Chikuma moved to the party city of Glasgow in the early 2000s. There he became instrumental in the music scene hosting some of the cities earliest dubstep nights bringing artists like Silkie and Goth Trad. He helped take small basement sessions to the larger clubs supporting the likes of Mala at the Art School. He played some of the earliest Outlook festival parties and was a tour engineer for Mungo's Hi Fi before returning to Tokyo to complete his Soulquencies project which has literally been years in the making.

RAMONES, THE End Of The Century LP
Reissue. 2011 release; originally released in 1980. 180 gram vinyl. "Road to Ruin found the Ramones stretching their signature sound to its limits; even though there were several fine moments, nearly all of them arrived when the group broke free from the suddenly restrictive loud-fast-hard formula of their first records. Considering that the Ramones did desire mainstream success and that they had a deep love for early-'60s pop/rock, it's not surprising that they decided to shake loose the constrictions of their style by making an unabashed pop album, yet it was odd that Phil Spector produced End of the Century, because his painstaking working methods seemingly clashed with the Ramones' instinctual approach. However, the Ramones were always more clever than they appeared, so the matching actually worked better than it could have. Spector's detailed production helped bring 'Rock 'n' Roll High School' and 'Do You Remember Rock 'n' Roll Radio?' to life, yet it also kept some of the punkier numbers in check. Even so, End of the Century is more enjoyable than its predecessor, since the record has stronger material, and in retrospect, it's one of their better records of the '80s." --Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music

It dredges the cassette revelations of art avante-gardists' Drone and Kim Blackburn, alongside bittersweet moments from Rupert and Norma O'Malley. There's the infectious minimal wave of Ballare and a reprised electro-boogie dance suite(?!) from Tom Ludvigson & Graeme Gash. The furthest depths of Flying Nun's catalog are also plundered -- a brilliant earworm from Stiff Herbert and a mysterious "Roger" Knox birthday promo. COLEMAN, ORNETTE Something Else!!! LP
Reissue. 2012 release. originally released in 1958. 180 gram vinyl. "This 1958 debut recording by the Ornette Coleman Quintet, which featured Coleman on his trademark white plastic alto, Don Cherry on trumpet, Billy Higgins on drums, Walter Norris on piano, and Don Payne on bass, shook up the jazz world -- particularly those musicians and critics who had entered the hard bop era with such verve and were busy using the blues as a way of creating vast solo spaces inside tight and short melody lines. Something Else!!!! is anathema to that entire idea, and must have sounded like it came from outer space at the time. First, Coleman's interest was in pitch, not 'being in tune.' His use of pitch could take him all over -- and outside of -- a composition, as it does on "Invisible," which begins in D flat. The intervals are standard, but the melodic component of the tune -- despite its hard bop tempo -- is, for the most part, free. But what is most compelling is evident in abundance here and on the next two tunes, 'The Blessing' and 'Jayne': a revitalization of the blues as it expressed itself in jazz. Coleman refurbished the blues framework, threaded it through his jazz without getting rid of its folk-like, simplistic milieu. In other words, the groove Coleman was getting here was a people's groove that only confounded intellectuals at the time. Coleman restored blues to their 'classic' beginnings in African music and unhooked their harmonies. Whether the key was D flat, A, G, whatever, Coleman revisited the 17- and 25-bar blues. There are normal signatures, however, such as 'Chippie' in F and in eight-bar form, and "The Disguise" is in D, but in a strange 13-bar form where the first and the last change places, altering the talking-like voice inherent in the melodic line. But the most important thing about Something Else!!! was that, in its angular, almost totally oppositional way, it swung and still does; like a finger-poppin' daddy on a Saturday night, this record swings from the rafters of the human heart with the most unusually gifted, emotional, and lyrical line since Bill Evans first hit the scene." --Thom Jurek, All Music

SHIRAISHI, TAKAYUKI Anthologia LP
Studio Mule drops Anthologia, the final chapter of a close look on the work of the Tokyo born DJ and producer Takayuki Shiraishi, a jack of all trades, that sways through Tokyo's vast music scene since the late '70s. As part of the band BGM he released in 1980 the album Back Ground Music on Osaka based label, Vanity. In 2019, Studio Mule reissued BGM's no wave, free funk minimal treasure (STUDIOMUL 024LP). A few months earlier, Studio Mule already published Missing Link (STUDIOMUL 022LP), a thrilling retrospect on Takayuki Shiraishi's unreleased material from the late 1980s. And now Anthologia, a record that is dedicated to his work during the years 1990 to 1996, a time span, in which Shiraishi moved on to produce house, downbeat, and playful electronica. Shiraishi was also a prominent figure of Tokyo's club nightlife, DJing alongside Jeff Mills as well as krautrock icons like Holger Czukay. Anthologia features three unreleased tunes of this lapse of time, as well as highlights some work Shiraishi produced together with his friend Jun Sonohara as Musica Nova and a hidden gem he tuned in for the Isolated Audio Players 1 compilation, published by the Tokyo based Pickin' Mushroom Recordings label in 2000. The three unreleased tracks display his love for diversification. "Distant Thunder" is a drone driven ambient voyage, that slowly melds into a gentle rhythmic sensation driven by loose hi-hat patterns and a soft chord crescendo. "Lapis Lazuli" comes around as a mellow melodic downbeat trip enlarged with twisted rhythms and cosmic infiniteness. "A Voyage" shows his love for house music with a grooving arrangement that comes close to the kinky house gems of contemporary producers, like Lowtec. Also, the already known Isolated Audio Players 1 compilation tune, "Flicker" is located in the house spheres, delivering nervous jacking minimal vibes emerging from a precise produced dance of melodies, grooves, and sound effects. In comparison, the four Musica Nova tracks show again another side of Takayuki Shiraishi's many musical talents. "Birds In Paradise" is an elegant triphop tranquilizer, while tunes like "Nocturnal Tribes" and "Green On Green" express his passion for electronic arrangements that think out of the box with airy melodies, slow-motion big beat rhythms, and jazz particles. The tune "Shifting Sand" goes the same direction, while adding esoteric reverberations and a touch of drum and bass.

FABRICE LIG Black Monday EP 12"
Belgian techno OG Fabrice Lig returns to Systematic with one of his most personal and moving EPs to date: Black Monday EP. His most substantial release on Marc Romboy's label since his Purple Raw series, each track is written as a special tribute to four people who've had a massively positive impact on Fabrice's life, but have sadly since passed on. Expressing himself in the most honest, articulate way he can, this one runs deeper than deep. "Jim The Magnificent Fox" is a dark, strident tribute to FlashForward resident, Christophe Adam. A doctor in criminology and psychology, an exceptional DJ and a dear friend to Fabrice, you can feel the emotion on every jagged edge. "Mr. Wa" follows. Striking poses at every possible opportunity, this dedication to an old school friend in his hometown Charleroi. Bright, breezy, and laced with movement and variation, it's a celebration of the positive energy and time Wa always gave to people. "Marc's Tribal Dance" follows. A hip-shifting, butt-wriggling funk techno workout, this commemorates Marc Morgan. A gifted French singer, and also Fabrice's good friend and publisher, he's another soul who has left us too soon. Finally, "Pivert The Playmobil". Another firm ally and creative genius from Fabrice's hometown, Pivert passed away a few years ago but his impact on Lig has never faded. Light, jazzy, and sprinkled with acid, it's a fittingly reflective finale for a touching, thoughtful EP. Four stunning tracks, four beautiful tributes, four great men remembered, one powerful reminder to tell our friends how much we appreciate them.

EIGHT ROUNDS RAPID Love Your Work LP
LP version. Southend stalwarts Eight Rounds Rapid release their third album Love Your Work on German label Tapete Records. Rooted in the infamous Canvey Island R'n'B tradition, Eight Rounds Rapid channel the fervor of Dr Feelgood, Wire, Gang of Four, and Public Image Limited with their gritty tales of the Essex underworld. The band's debut album (2014) gained excellent reviews from the likes of Uncut, who called it "edgy, drugged-up thug punk." Mojo gave the band a 4-star review and Classic Rock said the album is a "welcome blast of no-frills, bullshit-free excitement." Eight Rounds Rapid supported Wilko Johnson on two major UK tours, and have had airplay from BBC DJs Mark Radcliffe, Gary Crowley, Gideon Coe, and Steve Lamacq. Second album Objet D'Art (2017) also received critical acclaim. Mojo praised it's "high octane rebelliousness and cheeky wit" and guitarist Simon Johnson's "trashy, thrashy guitar, a cacophonous hybrid of his dad Wilko, Johnny Thunders and early Pete Townsend". The band's songs are rooted in traditional rhythm and blues, but impulsive guitar from Simon Johnson (Wilko's son) and acerbic delivery from singer David Alexander make the act sound like John Cooper Clarke and Mark E Smith fighting in a Southend bus depot. The line-up also features Jules Cooper (bass) and Lee Watkins (drums). Recorded under the specter of a global pandemic, Love Your Work reflects feelings of confusion, angst and isolation -- all delivered with singer David Alexander's trademark sneering dry wit. The customary low life and underground subjects are still the only language they know, but this album is as much a commentary on contemporary music confronting modernity as it is a collection of musical compositions. The new album grapples with the folly of nostalgia while singles "Love Don't", "Tricks", and "Eating" ramp up the energy levels. Violent low lives and losers populate the songs as usual, but David Alexander now draws himself closer into view, with "Aging Athlete", a metaphor for a musician searching for legitimacy in a dull landscape. Music as duty. Love your work.

HAFFAR/NOUR MOBARAK, BANA You Are The Audience Cassette
This cassette tape is a document of two live performances by the Bana Haffar/Nour Mobarak duo. Their mutual pleasure in variable tunings, granular synthesis, and structured improvisations shaped their collaboration. A lifelong expatriate, Bana Haffar was born in Saudi Arabia in 1987 and spent much of her childhood in the GCC. Through her switch from ten years of electric bass to modular synthesizers in 2014, Bana is attempting to dismantle years of institutional "conditioning" in traditional systems of music theory and performance. She is interested in exploring sonic disintegration and coalescence into new forms and synthesized experiences. Nour Mobarak (Lebanese-American, born 1985 in Cairo, Egypt) is an artist working with writing, music, performance, sculpture, and film making. Performances include the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Miguel Abreu Gallery, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; Stadslimeit, Antwerp; Cafe OTO, London, and Cambridge University, Cambridge; among others. Mobarak has participated in exhibitions at Miguel Abreu Gallery, Cubitt Gallery, Rodeo, Taaffe Place, LAXART. Her writings have been published by De Appel/F.R. PATHFINDERS, THE Imagine Something Yesterday Cassette
Recorded by The Pathfinders -- Roger Cleghorn and Malcolm Garrett -- Imagine Something Yesterday is a compendium of playful explorations with analog synthesizers and distorted found sounds, made without an actual release in mind. Former art and design students at Manchester Polytechnic, The Pathfinders were sharing a flat together in London when Malcolm was establishing his graphic design studio, Assorted iMaGes, on Tottenham Court Road and Roger was studying for a Fine Art MA at Chelsea. These experiments from the 15th floor of a tower block in the Isle of Dogs, London were captured directly on a reel-to-reel tape recorder over a period of a few months at the tail end of 1980 and the beginning of 1981. Further embellishments were made at Chelsea School of Art. The equipment used included Yamaha CS-10, ARP Axxe, EMS VCS3, TEAC A-3340, Bang & Olufsen Beogram 1202, and Beolab 1700. Listeners may identify the aural influence of electronic pioneers such as Cluster, Tangerine Dream, Brian Eno, Cabaret Voltaire, or Throbbing Gristle and they would not be wrong as these were indeed some of the musicians whose records were frequently played at home by The Pathfinders around that time. With almost 40 years having elapsed since recording, memories are sketchy with regard to who made what noise where -- The Pathfinders could hardly be described as being musicians who jammed together -- but everything ended up compiled onto a couple of cassette tapes, where they have languished ever since -- the "master" reel-to-reel tapes seemingly lost forever. Only one track from these sessions, "Long Shadows", was previously published, on Touch's 1983 Meridians 1 compilation. Imagine Something Yesterday features almost all of the other surviving recordings. A tantalizing additional 14 minutes of sound remains unreleased, the full running time being just too long for comfortable release on one cassette. The Pathfinders remain Roger Cleghorn and Malcolm Garrett.

NOT NOW Within The Beyond Cassette
Over three decades of pursuing an uncompromising path of innovative musical juxtaposing and singular vocal stylings, Peter Hope's latest Not Now project pushes industrial techno into unchartered territories with the inspired collaborative input of electronic precisionist Henri Sizaret. In search of creative liberty, the pair adopt spontaneous composition techniques in the construction of their other-worldly voodoo machinations, resulting in a wild ride through caustically sharp electronic mutations, intriguingly tarnished with the disturbed spirits of mangled blues and depersonalized dada vocal proclamations. "To discover what lies beyond any planned form we must trust intuition, experience and the immediacy of improvisation. Whilst ever there is a safety net commitment to the moment cannot be complete. Keep the rules simple. Do not second guess. Only discard that which will poison. Embrace spontaneity and its unexpected inventions. If NOT NOW, when?" An exploration into liberation written and produced by Not Now. Personnel: Peter Hope - voice, SP75+DL4; Henri Sizaret - computer generated instrumentation. Illustration: D.M. Nagu. After sifting through a few sessions, I selected a variety of tracks and put them together for this release. For process-inquisitive types, the generative composition techniques with cellular automata used various MIDI events including => note, velocity, mono / poly aftertouch, pitch bend, mod wheel, continuous controllers and various custom system exclusive encodings to change microtuning tables and various synth patch parameters. BITING TONGUES Clear Your Screens CD
Compiled by Ken Hollings, Clear Your Screens is a series of battle re-enactments from Manchester's least celebrated post-punk group Biting Tongues. Their tritone tribalism, mixed with intense language flow and layers of tape concrète, was perhaps a bit too much for the early 1980s when they released records with New Hormones, Factory, and Beggars Banquet. Always an astonishing experience live, the classic early line-up returned to the stage near the start of the 21st century with the musical and performance experience accumulated over another twenty years working apart. Applying modern digital mixing techniques ten years later to these live recordings reveals the rare blood chemistry of a team of specialists who have only grown more passionate over time. Surely a worthy part the 20th century musical canon even if they have handed in their homework late. All songs written by Hollings, Graham Massey, Colin Seddon, Eddie Sherwood, and Howard Walmsley. Sanders sounds much more mellow than he had a decade earlier, often improvising in a style similar to late-'50s John Coltrane, particularly on 'When Lights Are Low,' 'Moments Notice,' and 'Central Park West.' The personnel changes on many of the selections and includes such top players as pianists Joe Bonner and John Hicks, bassist Art Davis, drummers Elvin Jones and Billy Higgins, vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, trombonist Steve Turre, trumpeter Danny Moore, a harpist, and (on 'Origin' and 'Central Park West') five vocalists. The music always holds one's interest, making this one of Sanders' better later recordings." --Scott Yanow, All Music

SANDERS, PHAROAH Live... LP
Restocked. Exact repro, originally released in 1982. Featuring John Hicks (piano), Walter Booker (bass) and Idris Muhammad (drums). "Sanders performs 'It's Easy to Remember' (in a style very reminiscent of early-'60s John Coltrane), an original blues, and two of his compositions, including the passionate 'You've Got to Have Freedom.' The musicianship is at a high level and, although Sanders does not shriek as much as one might hope (the Trane-ish influence was particularly strong during this relatively mellow period), he is in fine form." --All Music Guide

HOMMEN, ANDRE More Than This CD
André Hommen presents both his first and last album More Than This on his uncompromising label, These Eyes. The nine-track album is a melodic journey demonstrating the diverse facets of his original sound. Founded in Cologne during 2017, André Hommen created These Eyes with a clear mission statement to release underground electronic music accompanied by his vision for unique design and an ethos for quality. With a back catalog of selected EPs from the likes of Marc Romboy, Jonathan Kaspar, and Clavis, More Than This is the label's first album and also a debut from the label-owner himself. "Eins" opens with glowing ambient, chimes and sparkling keys are added to produce a lush groove. Like a hazy dream of an unknown paradise, warm soulful chords and vocals-sound, like waves, slowly washing against the shore on "Pantone". During "Mirror", distorted female vocals become the centerpiece of the melody, in a driving techno track made for the warehouse. The funky bassline of "Current Issue" moves with swagger, a deeper vibe is unveiled as the harmony builds suspense and charm on a rhythm of cowbell. Eerie tribalistic percussion combines with devilish piano on the haunting "Arythm". Fuzzy, scratching electronics and the energy of the 808 leaves you in a dizzy state during "Waste Your Youth". "Emphase" is a tense night-time ride through the forest, featuring slowly burning progression that flows with the sound of running water. Starting with nothing but an intricate drum-pattern, "Cohesive" is André at his hypnotic best, waiting until you are fully under his spell before adding a mesmerizing loop. Title track "More Than This" sees synths that ebb, flow and flicker in this floating downtempo number that gently closes the album. House music has always been front-and-center of Hommen's life script, growing up in Nettetal in Germany he started mixing in his bedroom, inspired by seminal radio shows before moving on to play local underground parties. Developing his career, he moved on to become a key part of Dennis Ferrer's Objektivity brand, where he became label manager and released three stunning EPs. In 2017, André turned his focus to launching his very own label These Eyes. More Than This showcases a producer who has fine-tuned his remarkable talent over a long period.

SCOTT, SIMON Migrations LP
Simon Scott on "Red Square": "Field recordings captured during a day under Moscow's Red Square in the underground metro in 2015. It has a narrative of motion as my microphones move with me through a vast sounding environment. The space reveals the aural diversity of the people moving beneath the Russian city of Moscow, the complex acoustics, and complex rhythms mixed together in a subterranean space. These communitive sonic events transformed my perception of space and time as reverberant boundaries led my ear into unknown acoustic destinations." Simon Scott on "Murmurations": "Recorded in March 2018 at RSPB Strumpshaw Fen in, Norfolk, UK using DPA 4061 microphones. I was showing Australian sound artist Lawrence English around the Fens of East Anglia, when he requested we head to Buckenham to find a flock of crows roosting. I recorded the spectacular murmurations of thousands of crows, rooks, and jackdaws, as the spring sun slowly set at dusk, and deer ran across the marshes. The field recordings are accompanied by a gradually shifting modular synth tone, that musically represents the slow change colors, until the light fell off the horizon. Photography and design by Jon Wozencroft. Vinyl mastered at SPS Mastering; cut by Jason @ Transition. Edition of 300.Simon Scott is a British composer, mastering engineer, and sound artist from The Fens in Cambridgeshire, England. His albums: Soundings (TO 112CD, 2019), FloodLines (TONE 053CD, 2016), Between (12k, 2012), Insomni (ASH 11-4CD, 2015), and Below Sea Level (12k/TouchLine, 2012). His work explores creative methodologies of field recording, the process of active listening, the implications of recording the natural world using technology and the manipulation of natural sounds used for musical composition. He has recently collaborated with artists Taylor Deupree and Marcus Fischer (Between), Fennesz, Claire M Singer, Philip Jeck, James Blackshaw, Rafael Anton Irisarri (Orcas, The Sight Below), Nils Frahm, and many more. He is also in UK group Slowdive.

JONESY No Alternative LP
Trading Places present a reissue of Jonesy's No Alternative, originally released in 1972. One of the lesser-known acts to arise during the plethora of prog rock acts in Britain, Jonesy was formed in 1971 by frontman John Evans-Jones and his bassist/multi-instrumentalist brother Trevor "Gypsy" Jones, who had both been in Anno Domini just before (though they had first played in various groups together during an Australian sojourn in the 1960s, including the hit-making Choas & Co). The early line-up shattered after a brotherly dispute, leading to the arrival of bassist David Paul and drummer Jim Payne, who had both played in the National Head Band, with Chicago-born scouser, Jimmy Kaleth on keyboards lending a defining treble element, especially through his use of a mellotron. The prevalence of that instrument on their 1972 debut LP, No Alternative, has naturally drawn comparisons with King Crimson in retrospect, but Jonesy had a sound all their own, with undercurrents of blues rock on "Mind Of The Century" and the title track, plus jazz leanings, and uncommon time signatures on "1958" and "Ricochet". This edition features bonus tracks "Everyday's The Same" and "Reprise", taken from a 1973 single. 180 gram vinyl. Licensed by Cherry Red.

ST. JOHN, BRIDGET Songs For The Gentle Man LP
Trading Places present a reissue of Bridget St. John's Songs For The Gentle Man, originally released in 1971. The English singer and guitarist Bridget St. John was introduced to the bourgeoning London folk scene by guitarist John Martyn, her rich and unusually deep voice being highly distinctive. BBC Radio disc jockey John Peel became one of her greatest champions, and when Peel formed the Dandelion label in 1969 with former Elektra record plugger Clive Selwood, the original intention was to issue St John's music. Following debut album from 1969, Ask Me No Questions (TDP 54013LP), which featured Martyn on a few tracks, the 1971 follow-up Songs For The Gentle Man was produced by Ron Geesin, who supplied a more orchestrated arrangement with woodwinds; the album also features a cover of Donovan's "The Pebble And The Man". Licensed from Cherry Red. 180 gram vinyl.

PICCADILLY LINE The Huge World of Emily Small LP
Trading Places present a reissue of Piccadilly Line's The Huge World of Emily Small, originally released in 1967. Short-lived British psychedelic project Piccadilly Line was created by singer/guitarist Roger Hand and singer/guitarist/keyboardist Rod Edwards, who would later find greater fame as Edwards Hand. Using some of Britain's top session players, including organist Alan Hawkshaw, guitarist Alan Parker, Jamaican-born flautist Harold McNair, and double bassist Danny Thompson from Pentangle, the album was expertly arranged by composer John Cameron, who had worked on television and film soundtracks, and co-produced by folk singer Roy Guest. The result was a particularly enticing slice of British psychedelia, driven by an overriding feel of small-town Englishness, with a touch of Californian vocal harmony here and there and a nice take of Bob Dylan's "Visions Of Johanna". Licensed from Cherry Red. 180 gram vinyl.

ZIOR Every Inch A Man LP
Trading Places present a reissue of Zior's Every Inch A Man, originally released in 1973. The obscure British blues-rock quartet Zior grew out of the thriving late '60s R&B scene in Southend-On-Sea, their live performances often taking the form of hippie "happenings". Soon they were drawing from the hard rock and emerging heavy metal scenes of the West Midlands, with Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin the most obvious musical influences (along with Steppenwolf). Self-titled debut LP from 1971 (TDP 54001LP) trampled through diverse rock terrain, but there was discord and diversions that stopped the band's ascent. After Zior broke up, Every Inch A Man surfaced in Germany, without the band's knowledge or permission; as with the debut, there is heavy psych, hard rock and straight-up blues rock, with a touch of krautrock influence. Licensed by Larry Page Productions. 180 gram vinyl; gatefold sleeve.

BARRY, JOHN Zulu LP
Trading Places present a reissue of John Barry's Zulu, originally released in 1964. One of the most important British film composers of all time, John Barry's body of work is simply astounding. In a career that spanned more than half a century, Barry composed some of the most popular soundtracks for British film and television, including eleven James Bond themes, winning numerous awards and accolades in the process. The son of a projectionist from York in the north of England, Barry was raised in a cinematic environment from a very young age and after a stint as an army trumpeter in Cyprus, he began to work back home in Britain for Jack Parnell and Ted Heath's Orchestra and after the subsequent formation of The John Barry Seven in 1957, he began to work in film and television. The highly evocative Zulu soundtrack of 1964 is the work that brought him to the attention of a wider audience, shortly before the first James Bond theme that would turn him into a household name; here the music shifts between an overriding tension and the kind of military fanfares reserved for pitched skirmishes on battlefields, the orchestrates peaks and troughs sounding every bit as stirring as anything recorded in Hollywood. 180 gram vinyl. Licensed by Cherry Red.

CATAPILLA Catapilla LP
Trading Places present a reissue of Catapilla's self-titled album, originally released in 1971. Jazz-infused prog rock act Catapilla began in London in 1970, with saxophonists Robert Calvert (who later worked with Daevid Allen in various Gong spin-off projects) and Hugh Eaglestone, bassist Dave Taylor (of chart-topping pop act Edison Lighthouse, and later active in hard-rock group, Liar), along with drummer Malcolm Frith, guitarist Graham Wilson, and clarinet player/flautist, Thierry Rheinhardt; original vocalist "Lady" Jo Meek quit early (to work with the keyboardist, poet, and science fiction author, Julian Jay Savarin) and was duly replaced by her sister, Anna, whose gutsy gasps gave the band its noteworthy difference, along with the woodwinds and horns. Former Millionaires' bassist Cliff Cooper (who had worked with producer Joe Meek before founding Orange Amplifiers), brought Catapilla to the attention of Black Sabbath's manager, Patrick Meehan, who swiftly got them a contract with Vertigo, Philips's prog subsidiary; this self-titled debut has four freaky tracks, including the side-long closer, "Embryonic Fusion". 180 gram vinyl; gatefold sleeve. DORIANS, THE Rock Concerto LP
Trading Places present reissue of The Dorians's Rock Concerto, originally released in 1970. Obscure Canadian psychedelic rock band The Dorians was formed in 1968 in the town of Kingsville, Ontario, by singer John Unger and bassist Bob Nixon, formerly of The Doomsday Machine; guitarist/chief songwriter Bill Loop drafted esteemed drummer Mike Betts, who joined in September 1967 after playing with Loop in Living Ends. Since Kingsville lies less than an hour away from Detroit by road, the band began recording at noted soul spot, GM Studios, in 1969, working with the songwriter, trumpeter, and arranger, Floyd Jones. Early singles such as the catchy "Psychedelic Lipstick" were licensed to European labels, including Giacomo Mazzini's Swiss-based PDU, which issued their sole long player, Rock Concerto, in 1970. Although "Means And Ways" and "Good Love" are framed as easy-going psych driven by strong vocal harmony, "Torch Song" drifted into spaced-out territory via extended instrumental jamming, led by the parallel playing of bass, violin, and keyboards. This edition of the highly collectable LP includes bonus track "Worm Conquers All", taken from the "Torch Song" single B-side. 180 gram vinyl. Licensed by Cherry Red.

SIR LORD BALTIMORE Kingdom Come LP
Trading Places present a reissue of Sir Lord Baltimore's Kingdom Come, originally released in 1970. Hard-rocking Brooklyn trio Sir Lord Baltimore's highly sought-after debut album is a legendary precursor of the heavy metal genre, a 1971 Creem review of the disc perhaps the first to ever use the term. The group benefited from the songwriting and production team of Mike Appel and Jim Cretecos, Appel the future manager of Bruce Springsteen and Cretecos already heady from success with The Partridge Family; recorded at Vantone Studios in New Jersey, it was mixed to fine effect by Eddie Kramer at Electric Ladyland, fresh from his work with Jimi Hendrix. Guitarist Louis Dambra co-arranged the material with Appel and Cretecos; he had earlier played in garage band The Koala as Louis Caine, and here his screeching guitar is a major draw, backed by plodding bass from Gary Justin, as front man John Garner shrieks his vocals while pounding furious drumbeats. Aside from a tough cover of Ray Charles's "I Got A Woman" and a track inspired by Yeats poem, "Lake Isle Of Innersfree," the album features heavily-stoned acid rock originals, delivered the Sir Lord Baltimore way. 180 gram vinyl; gatefold sleeve. HALM, CARSTEN Taubenflug 12"
Carsten Halm is a German DJ and producer who keeps his doings very much under the radar. With his release on Traum, Carsten Halm drifts slightly towards a different direction which can be described as a blend of techno with melodic elements all done in a minimalist fashion. Powerful and warm sounding... ready to rock the dance floor. The EP kicks off with "Taubenflug" using a classic sequential sound in the beginning that is layered with a catchy bassy synth that soon follows. That can be considered only the beginning of "Taubenflug". The track builds up step by step adding a fast-paced melody and a panoramic spread string melody that give the track its wonderful feeling of elevation. The track is gifted with a very natural progression that can be instantly absorbed and generates a collective feeling of extraordinary happiness. "Herbstnacht" has a tribal sequence running that places you right into an open-air setting at night. The track communicates perfectly the exchange of one's inner self with the things that happen around you. The track has the aura of an epic dance track which seems to defy time since it could go on forever. The flip side of the vinyl offers the track "Sternenfunkeln" in its original version and the remix version by Nils Hoffmann. The original is brooding and mysterious yet it does generate a lot of forward motion that pulls you into the track. The track could be understood as expressing the feeling of dancing below the starts catching illuminating glimpses of stars with their thermonuclear fusion happening while we are too far away to understand any of this but see the radiation into space. Nils Hoffmann's remix is a sensitive composition with melodies that seem to glide, never touching the ground but on the other hand he has an underlying kind of tension running through the track.
