MARTIAL LAW
Finally, Hong Kong action hits American television. Sammo Hung, best known in Hong Kong for his action-comedies he has starred and directed in, seems an unlikely hero. Even at his slimmest, he seems too fat to move as quick as he does. But he does. And then some. One of the Seven Little Fortunes to come from Hong Kong's Peking opera (other fortunes include Yeun Biao, Corey Yeun and the well-known Jackie Chan), he's been doing it all for a while. The TV show has some sort of premise that was just lost to me, as well as the plot. Basically, Sammo Hung's character, Sammo Law, comes to America (LA specifically), teams up with some other cops and gets into fights. Or something. But who needs plot when you have Sammo Hung jumping, kicking and punching the bad guys into oblivion. They even had outakes from the action scenes ala Jackie Chan, so you could tell it was Sammo doing his own stunts. I don't know about the rest of the series, but the first episode was directed by Hong Kong director Stanley Tong (Rumble in the Bronx, Supercop). Saturday nights at 9 EST on CBS. or ABC, I forget. - Thomas Guttadauro

YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS
Neil LaBute had managed to get a dull movie with one to two dimensional characters being sexual predators past audiences once, and God bless him, he's done it again. Bad acting, weak script, implausible situations. Bad, bad bad Neil LaBute, I'm wishing you to the cornfields. And would someone just find a way to keep Ben Stiller out of my media. I'd rather Gen X get portrayed as a bunch of dumb slackers than smug, self-absorbed artistes and businessmen. Does anyone know someone who acts like a character from this movie or In The Company of Men? Or do we just assume they exist? - Thomas Guttadauro

STAY AWAY FROM GLAM
1/2 Eddie and the Cruisers, 1/2 Ziggy Startust, and all crap, Velvet Goldmine really sucks. It starts off in an odd direction with hints of Oscar Wilde, and a fictitious story based closely on David Bowie and Iggy Pop, this movie falls short of being worth $7.50. Some people shouldn't be allowed to make movies and some actors should not be allowed to play David Bowie. I'm also starting to wonder if Ewan McGregor has to have a penis shot in every movie. How will they write that one into the Star Wars films? Save your time. - Jon Whitney

Did I miss something?

Subject: MPEG sound stuff

Hiya thanks for the MeatBeat MP3 tracks. I was pissed off by the last release, so a pre-listen was a help.

In case you didn't know you can make the sounds stream, so that people can hear them without downloading them first. All you do is squish them down to 24Kbs and set up a MIME type that equates the extension MP3 with 'audio/mpeg'. That way, a program like WinAmp plays the music direct from your server. The sound isn't too bad quality.

We've done it over at http://anonradio.sevcom.com if you want to check out the results. Thanks again.

Whoa, Severed Heads are watching! Neato...
