PRIME AUDIO CONTEST

Simeon and Danny of the Silver Apples were involved in a car crash recently. Luckily, Danny walked away unscathed, but Simeon broke his neck and is currently paralyzed. Some good news is (according to Phil McMullen) Simeon can move his left hand and has some feelings in his legs. I'm hoping that everyone can direct their good will and prayers in Simeon's direction. For those of you unfamiliar with the Silver Apples, check out www.SilverApples.com. It may not be the best of websites, but it may help fill in the holes.
COSEY'S OPERATION
Cosey's forthcoming heart operation early next
year will hopefully 'cure' her and give her a 'normal' life again and regained energy levels.
For those who want to know some details, the procedure is called radio
frequency ablation and involves inserting a catheter in the thigh which
is directed towards the heart, with the final stages of the procedure
achieved by remote control. More information will be posted on the Chris and Cosey site at www.chrisandcosey.com as and when
we know the dates and success of the operation.
IN BRIEF
For all of you trying to catch up with Fridge, they present a new collection of all their old 7" and 12" single tracks on this two-cd collection called "Sevens and Twelves". Despite the somewhat annoying packaging of having all the info printed on the front of the jewel case, the collection herein is brilliant. Tracks appear in their full-length entirety, leaving no tracks out. This is a great companion to their two full-length discs, Ceefax and Semaphore. Highly recommendable, you won't be disappointed. Specially priced for "export" as they say, you won't find this double-cd UK import for more than $20. - Jon Whitney
LIVE PART 1 - DOING IT WRONG
Portishead's "PNYC" is an example of how NOT to produce a live album. This disc really disappoints me. Although the recording is great and it's nice to hear the band with a full symphony, the CD omits the entire concert - the 2xLP version of this has something like 4 more tracks. Another obnoxious live turn they took was to fade the crowd out between every song. When I hear a live album, I want the entire concert and all the talking inbetween songs, no fading tracks, nothing missing. Don't get me wrong, the music is great, but there's a LOT missing. - Jon Whitney
LIVE PART 2 - DOING IT RIGHT
Spiritualized released a live disc as well this week. "Royal Albert Hall October 10 1997 Live" is a two-disc set, the complete concert, and recorded right from the sound board, produced and mixed perfectly. Spiritualized also have more than two studio albums to go on as well, so the selection of tunes can vary all over the place. This definately gets my vote for one of the better live albums I've ever heard. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you buy this, make sure to open the disc up in the store, my copy had two DISC ONEs, I opened up another copy and the same thing, the third copy I opened was correct. - Jon Whitney

If there's three things you can count on in every John Waters film, it's Baltimore Maryland, American White Trash, and something gay. This particular story, in John Waters style will keep you laughing the entire time. A young boy, known as Pecker has a fascination with taking photos with a camera his mother got at her thrift shop. The photos get the attention of a NYC art dealer, he gets a show in NY, fame, fortune, and then his life crumbles as everybody he took photos of get in trouble, he gets in trouble, loses his job, friends, etc... But fear not, it has quite a happy ending and turnaround. The movie doesn't really go far, no big plot, it's light but extremely enjoyable. - Jon Whitney
