A BUG'S LIFE
I will gladly admit I liked Toy Story (my then 7yr old little sister gave it to me for Xmas last year so I would return her copy!) So, of course I was quite interested in Pixar's newest computer animated movie. So on opening weekend, I took my 2 younger sisters to go see it along with my fiancée Well, I was not disappointed.

Fantastic animation, a very funny and entertaining movie... and the animations don't sing (something that I have only recently found out that lots of people are very grateful for!) Unlike Toy Story, this is a full length movie (TS was around 70 minutes) but I don't think anyone noticed the length. I won't go much into the story, its fairly typical Disney (minus singing animations) If you do go, stay through a good chunk of the credits for and extra treat in hilarity. - Erik Selke

I've enjoyed everything Pixar has thrown at me so far, and this film is no exception. State of the art computer animation, good story, etc. make A Bug's Life worth seeing. Borrowing only slightly from sensei's Seven Samarui, a lone ant goes seeking mercenaries to fight off an attack on his colony. Only he mistakes circus actors for warriors. Hilarity ensues. Don't leave during the credits, you dumbass! - Thomas Guttadauro

Is "hilarity" proper English? - Jon Whitney

ENEMY OF THE STATE
The telecom in this movie is fantastic. Technology geeks will like this just for the toys everyone sees. Its a pretty entertaining movie (I didn't notice my pager beeping and vibrating through the whole 2+ hours of the movie... however the battery did!) but something occurred to me while watching the end. Tony Scott directs this movie, and the only other movie that comes to mind that I *know* he directed (I know, I am strange...) is True Romance. So, I couldn't get this odd sense when the final confrontation was the 'good guys,' 'the cops,' and the 'Mafia' all in a circle gunfight where only the 'good guys' make it out okay. - Erik Selke

BILLY'S HOLLYWOOD SCREEN KISS
Why is it I can't tolerate romance movies, but gay romance movies move me to tears. Maybe because they hold truer to life. The hero doesn't always walk off with the love interest. Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss was highly entertaining, very funny and some other stuff. Hey, look, that dog has a poofy tail! - Thomas Guttadauro

COMMENTARY
MAN OF THE YEAR?
Well, Time Online is conducting their Man of the Year poll and this year's leader is Matthew Shepard. This makes me sickened because of two things:
  1. This guy is worth more dead than he was alive. There are a few hundred web pages out there devoted to Matthew Shepard and he has become a symbol of anti-violent movements and human rights, etc. Everybody dies, that's a fact of life, and the fact that Matthew's death has made such an impact on people all over the country (and perhaps the world) makes him more important dead than alive.
  2. If you dig deep, you'll notice that it's all about how you look. A transvestite is murdered in Watertown MA, a neighboring town of mine, but there were no candle-lit vigils in 30 major cities for him/her. Jean-Benet is still gracing the covers of magazines, why? Because they look good on magazines and on the TV news. Matthew Shepard was a good looking 21-year old white boy. Black teenage boys are killed in record numbers in NYC every year, but you don't see web pages up for them, do you?
While my sympathies go out to the true close friends and family of Matthew Shepard, my disgust in people increases. Disgust for anybody who would murder, and disgust for the media who remind us (even if only subliminally) that good looking people are more important. - Jon Whitney

TIME TO MOVE ON
The USA will be paralyzed, Iraqi dictators will have a field day, and chaos will break loose. Why? Stupid Male American Pride. I'm so sick of these fucking impeachment hearings and I usually don't take up a cause, but I do suggest checking out moveon.org. Take this with a grain of salt. Don't fill anything in and get on a propaganda email shit-list, but get the numbers there and call your congressman to tell them to smarten the fuck up.

GOD BLESS PORN
Well, porn is an important part of everybody's lives. What industry powered the home video cassette popularity? PORN. What powers the internet? PORN. As our salute to porn, I present this link, hilarious, yet rude and disgusting, so don't view it at work or you'll be fired. You will be laughing your ass off for days after you view jimpk.ne.mediaone.net/movies/glasses.avi. (Be sure to watch through the end!)
