Northern Song Dynasty (Jessica Bailiff with Jesse Edwards) and Cristal
(Bobby Donne of Labradford and Aix Em Klemm) each have a full-length CD
release due out on October 25th from All Is Number.
From the label's website, "The members of Cristal came together in a
Richmond, Virginia kitchen over a batch of sangria in 2001. The band
members, Jimmy Anthony, Bobby Donne (who is also a member of
Labradford), and Greg Darden use a variety of electronic devices,
sources, and recording locations to improvise and/or compose. The
result can be beautiful, relaxing, chaotic or challenging, often all at
once. Volume is critical."
And for Northern Song Dynasty, "Taking three years to complete this
album, the flow of time and weather naturally influenced Northern Song
Dynasty's song structures, sounds, and lyrical content. Jessica and
Jesse also sing of relationships: man and woman, parent and child,
friend and friend. The result is moody, psychedelic pop, that also
takes cues from folk and electronic music. Guest appearances by Fred
Thomas (flashpapr, Saturday Looks Good To Me) and Cortney Bird provide
nuances to the closing track. However, the album was not complete until
Iker Spozio (good friend and illustrator for England's Ptolemaic
Terrascope zine) created the cover art."
